saying a “significant” number will miss out on pre-ordering a Switch 2 direct from the company
In a statement issued to X / Twitter
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said the company had seen 2.2 million people in Japan alone apply for a pre-order of the Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store
This “extremely large number of applications… far exceeds our expectations
and far exceeds the number of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles that can be delivered from the My Nintendo Store on June 5,” Furukawa explained
Nintendo expects a “significant” number of customers will not be selected when the winners of the My Nintendo Store lottery sale are announced tomorrow
Nintendo has so far not issued a similar warning to customers in the west
Those who miss out will be carried over to the second lottery sale
but even here Nintendo can’t guarantee a pre-order
“We deeply apologize for not being able to meet your expectations despite our prior preparations.” Furukawa said
Nintendo is now working to improve its production system
game retailers and online stores across Japan will begin accepting pre-orders or lottery sales for the Switch 2
The console will also continue to be sold at the My Nintendo Store after the release date
we will continue to ship the console and make efforts to get as many Nintendo Switch 2 consoles as possible into your hands,” Furukawa added
“We plan to continue producing and shipping a considerable number of Nintendo Switch 2 units in the future
We apologize for the delay in our ability to meet your expectations
While Furukawa’s statement is aimed at the Japan market, it raises the question of whether Nintendo will suffer similar issues in the west. According to a FAQ posted to Nintendo’s website
the first batch of invitations will go out starting May 8
Additional batches of invitation emails will then be sent “periodically” until purchasing on My Nintendo Store is opened to everyone
Initial invitation emails will be delivered on a first-come
first-serve basis to “eligible registrants who meet the priority criteria.” Invitees will have 72 hours from the time when the email is sent to complete their purchase
Last week, Nintendo announced that Switch 2 pre-orders would begin in the U.S. on April 24
and that the original price of $449.99 and launch date of June 5 would remain the same
Alongside the base console price remaining the same
Nintendo confirmed the Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will remain at $499.99 and pricing for both the physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) will not change at launch
But Nintendo raised the price of Switch 2 accessories amid the ongoing tariff turmoil
Nintendo had originally planned on opening pre-orders for Switch 2 on April 9, but it made the decision to delay them as it needed time to "assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions."

you shouldn't have to worry about it selling out
It's very likely you can confidently wait until launch day to purchase a copy
always creating FOMO and urgency with artificial supply issues
There's consumer curiosity but not a massive demand for Switch2 and they know it
I wonder if Nintendo might be diverting more stock to the US so they can help meet initial demand before possible tariffs kick in
Though on the other hand I assume we have a bigger scalper/bot problem here
so it probably cancels out extra supply and then some
Will be interesting to see how it shakes out tonight
Best of luck to those attempting to preorder
\"this time we'll have plenty of stock.\"
Nintendo Says 2.2 Million People Applied to Pre-Order a Switch on the My Nintendo Store in Japan Alone — and Warns a ‘Significant’ Number of Customers Will Miss Out
The warning of customers missing out is warranted
since everyone is so desperate to make a profit
Why do others who have a real job suffer the consequences of not being able to buy a product
because of greedy scalpers who need to get a real job
I hope Nintendo is aware and avoids what happened to the PS5 because that was absolutely ridiculous
There is no reason why that was allowed to happen
It's bad enough that this console is overpriced from the get-go
so we have to combat Nintendo's greed and scalpers' greed as well
It feels like that's the only way the pricing seems reasonable
Not in a rush to buy one I will get one when I see one in the store
Nothing must have with it as of yet for me so I will kick back and wait and see
Xbox and Sony are rumored to have new handhelds coming so I will wait and see what transpires from them before jumping in
All this talk of I'm going to pre-orders and I'm like..
you all have actually been subscribed to Nintendo Online long enough to qualify to preorder
The sofware price of \"Ultra 64\" days and the rarity of Wii days...If Switch 2 is not the worst possible generation in the making
Spent 5 hours on the Walmart website frantically refreshing and going through checkout only for it to kick me out at the final page
One order went through successfully and took my money
only to be cancelled and refunded minutes later
woke up this morning and tried again at 7AM for about an hour and somehow managed to secure one 😄 this time it was not cancelled and has stayed in my cart for multiple hours now leading me to believe this is really it and that I've got my Switch 2 locked in
It helped that I already had my payment pre-saved and ready to go to click faster on the checkout page
Once again Nintendo is blowing expectations out of the water with a console that will actually innovate when it launches gen 10 instead of stagnating like Xbox and PS have done for years
Looks like were not getting a price drop anytime soon
surely they would look after their own before shipping to retailers
i had to put in for an invite and was lucky enough to receive an invitation
At this point I wish I could have gotten my hands on the Japanese model
For that I will hold my phone up and use Google translate to read what's on the screen
but nothing screams I need to snatch this up day one🤷🏾♂️
PS5 + Switch 2 is the ultimate gaming combo
Really only 2.2 i mean for billions of ppl thats kinda low
plus who wants to expensive overrated kids system anyways
Nintendo treats American players better than Japanese players
Remember when the first switch came out and non of us could get one until like 2 years after release
how are they not able to produce 2.2 million consoles yet
unfortunately I feel imma have to use bots to grab another one
I’m glad I got one preordered already but I definitely need a US version

Anti-NMDAR encephalitis is a rare autoimmune disorder that may be misdiagnosed as schizophrenia
CSHL Professor Hiro Furukawa has shown how three patients’ antibodies bind to critical brain receptors in different cases of this immune disease
The discovery suggests that personalized medicine is critical for more accurate treatments and diagnoses
Imagine you wake up in a hospital without a single memory of the last month
Doctors say you had a series of violent episodes and paranoid delusions
You’d become convinced you were suffering from bipolar disorder
a neurologist diagnoses you with a rare autoimmune disease called anti-NMDAR encephalitis
a New York Post reporter who would go on to write the best-selling memoir Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness
Anti-NMDAR encephalitis can lead to hallucinations, blackouts, and psychosis, says Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Professor Hiro Furukawa
It mostly affects women ages 25 to 35—the same age at which schizophrenia often presents itself
But what’s happening in anti-NMDAR encephalitis is something else
Furukawa specializes in NMDARs
brain receptors that play a critical role in cognition and memory
antibodies bind to those receptors and prevent them from working,” he explains
their effectiveness varies depending on symptom severity
New research from the Furukawa lab may explain why
Furukawa and colleagues map how antibodies from three patients bind to NMDARs
They find that the way in which each of the three antibodies binds to NMDARs differs
The discovery marks an important step in gaining a fuller understanding of anti-NMDAR encephalitis
it suggests personalized medicine may be critical for treating this disease
“Distinct binding patterns manifest in different functional regulation levels in NMDARs,” Furukawa explains. “This affects neuronal activities. So, different binding sites may correspond to variations in patients’ symptoms.” Uncovering those correlations could lead to more precise therapeutic strategies
that scientists identify several binding sites common among encephalitis patients
Pharmacologists could then design new drugs to target these sites
Personalized medicine could also mean more accurate diagnoses
but it could be misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed
some schizophrenic patients have this disease

It’s time to scratch your head solving more nonograms with Piczle Cross:
The 2025 Atari Studios Publisher Sale has now started on the Nintendo eShop
Gameloft has announced that new Premium Shop content has been released for
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has stated that the company will be unable to meet the demand for Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders through its My Nintendo Store
After opening a lottery process for customers to be rewarded with the chance to pre-order the portable home console successor
more than 2.2 million people applied in Japan alone
That has far exceeded the company’s expectations
resulting in a situation where the My Nintendo Store does not have enough stock to meet the demand
this massively surpasses our prior assumptions
and it ended up largely exceeding the number of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles we can deliver from My Nintendo Store on 5 June
it will be very unfortunate that a considerable number of customers are expected to not get chosen when we announce the results tomorrow on 24 April
those who weren’t chosen in the 1st lottery sales will be automatically redirected to the 2nd lottery sales
so that they don’t have to go the hassle of applying once again
we are unable to respond to all applications received even with the stocks for the 2nd lottery sales
we still cannot live up to everyone’s expectations
we are working on things like enhancing the production structure even further
physical and online game shops all around Japan will start accepting applications for pre-orders or lottery sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 console
please check the guidance from each store.)
we will also continue its sales even after the release date
(We will inform the details at a later date.) From hereafter we will continue to ship the stocks while receiving support from retailers
and we will continue to strive to deliver Nintendo Switch 2 to everyone’s hands as many as possible
we are also setting up plans to produce and ship a considerable amount of Nintendo Switch 2 in the future
We’re very sorry that we end up taking more time until we can live up to everyone’s expectations
but we hope you can kindly bestow us with your understanding.”
Nintendo Switch 2 will be released at retailers around the world on 5 June 2025

administration implemented an additional 10% tariff on all goods imported into the country from China
While the full effect of this increase is yet to be seen
it poses a potential price hike for consoles and accessories developed in China
is a cause for concern to both consumers and developers
Acknowledging this, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has said that the company is looking into the potential impact that the tariffs could have on the upcoming financial year and the launch of the Switch 2. As reported by Reuters (and translated by Nintendo Everything)
Furukawa explained in a press conference that the company is "predicting various geopolitical risks and establishing ways to respond"
“Nintendo Switch is not only manufactured in China," Furukawa noted
"but in places such as Vietnam and Cambodia as well"
With many Switch consoles already imported into the US by the time the tariffs came into effect
Furukawa suggests that there should be little financial damage this fiscal year: "While we anticipate a certain impact
the influence on this year’s financial results is expected to be minimal"
The Nintendo president didn't comment specifically on FY2025/26 and the launch of Switch 2
though there's every chance that the impact may be greater
Nintendo expanded its manufacturing operations outside China in 2019, when proposed tariffs once again threatened to drive up prices. In a rare display of unity, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft joined forces to pen a letter to the US government
warning of the tariffs' negative effects on the gaming industry should console sales not be exempt from the increased taxes
The letter led to a successful outcome for the companies in 2019
no such exemptions currently seem to be in place
We'll have to wait and see just how "minimal" of an impact the price increase has on consumer spending when there's a hot new console on the market
If we hear any updates on the tariffs and the effect that they may have on Switch 2 sales
despite his insistence that The Minish Cap is the best Zelda game and his unwavering love for the Star Wars prequels (yes
he has continued to write news and features on the site ever since
Can’t wait for an intelligent discussion on politics
I’m concerned over food and other necessities and not video games
I do hope for our hobbies sake it won’t be extremely expensive
This is what I was talking about to my wife earlier this month
I am expecting the Switch 2 to retail for $399 in the US
If the tariffs affect the price I am totally expecting that price to go up to $450
In other words charge the consumer more because that is the only thing tariffs are actually good for and we live in a hellworld
Tariffs won't stop China from creating games that I love to play
All involved parties can have the honour of my middle finger
Just want to say ...maybe not the best idea leaving comments open on this one
If there's one survival tip the nightmarish hellscape that is the modern internet has taught me
it's to avoid bringing up things even the slightest bit related to another thing coloured orange ...as it almost always ends up with everything just getting soaked in red
It’s definitely reassuring that Nintendo has a backbone
I find it humorous that each Switch Console will release on the first year of this president’s terms
The first comment was the first casualty!!
Ironic that a longstanding theory on why Switch 2 is taking so long to release was in expecting parts to become cheaper over time
only to now have distribution take a massive cost
I wasn't planning on being a super early adopter
but I might buy early in case this situation causes Nintendo to raise prices
Or I might adopt late if prices start off too high because it's possible they could drop (like the 3DS)
The way inflation is going and how Sony had to raise prices for the PS5 gives me a bad feeling on how Nintendo might have to handle pricing for the Switch 2
Companies will find a way either around the tariffs
video games) will be wary of making things too expensive
Nintendo needs incentive to make better quality products
Expected (and also proven as there are already a couple of removed comments) spiciness of this comment section aside
glad to hear that this factor shouldn't particularly matter at the very least this year and so for the launch of Switch 2 - fingers crossed that continues to be the case the following ones
here’s hoping Trump 2 won’t hurt Switch 2 that much here
Kinda creepy how Trump and Nintendo Switch have aligned so much…
but an inflated price would be the last thing to keep me from buying one this year if I determine that it’s worth it
It would be cool if they could manufacture switches in America
The Chinese ain't going to pay for the tariffs
they are going to make the USA people pay for it by adding that 10% tax hike to their own goods for purchase
Adding more tax to something only makes it worst
It's like going to the restaurant nowadays
they raise their menu price and the dining/delivery fee while laying off 20% of their workforce
The customers and workers will continue to lose while the corporation continues to reap all the money while the feds still pretends they did something smart which they didn't
@batmanbud2
How long are you anticipating "in due time" to be
paid by the US importer and passed on to the consumer
When Nintendo is speaking to the impact of tariffs
meaning they might sell less consoles because in the US because they could cost much more then MSR and price some customers out
because 100% of tariffs are paid by Americans
"We are putting a 25% tariffs on goods from China" is a way of saying "Everything you buy in America that is from China will now cost 25% more
because it will have a 25% tax that you need to pay."
@Vil Can’t avoid things forever
I believe it is important to have these conversations in a civil manner mind you
@defective1up I'm not suggesting Nintendo will abandon America
but they'll just move shipments for other countries around the place
@defective1up
Which tariffs and countries are you referring to
I doubt the Switch 2 is going to cost 25% more in the US than the UK surely
don't start importing UK ones and make it harder for me to get one
I totally understand how something like this could quickly derail into political pettiness
While i am concerned how much this will impact prices for costumers
i urge everybody to step back and consider that videogames
the fact that Sony felt comfortable setting that PS5 pro price
I suspect videogames were the last thought of the electorate that decided in majority for another Trump presidency
@HeadPirate Wouldn’t the one way Nintendo won’t make US customers pay more and avoid high tariffs is if they send units that were manufactured in Vietnam to the US
I remember the days when Nintendo manufactured their hardware in their own facilities
@Uncle_Franklin That's the neat thing: Arguing in ambiguity means you can never be proven wrong
and just have faith that it'll all work out for the greater good eventually
Why aren’t comments closed we know this comment section will go crazy
Like if we’re gonna get rid of half the comments might as well have them closed
Tbh not expecting this to effect the US much
people were overreacting before and Nintendo doesn’t seem effected whatsoever
@MrCarlos46
But that would increases there manufacturing cost
Nintendo needs to work out if there is more risk from lost sales
or more risk from spending money setting up new supply lines
In a climate were new tariffs are being interduce to new countries every day
You might spend millions shifting to manufacturing in country X
only to see country X get a seemingly random 100% tariff
and China's tariffs might go away at any time
The one thing you want more then anything in trade is stability
So just ignoring what the erratic and unstable country is doing and focusing on increasing sales elsewhere is always going to be the better plan
Worst case they'll raise the price everywhere else to keep it more affordable for US customers
@KingMike You didn't read
The import tax (aka Tariff) is paid by who is importing the goods into the US
That means anyone who ordered Switches and Switch 2s are the ones paying the tariffs
A cost per unit they will likely pass on to the consumers
My comment getting removed made it seem much worse than it was
Nervous is a poor choice of words) about pricing I am going to wait for the Zelda edition anyway so I figure that will be 4-5 years from now (I am expecting a 2026 launch for the S2…which I have been saying for years)
Time enough for tariffs to expire (they don’t just go away with the stroke of a pen) and hopefully prices to stabilize (at least Nintendo does price cuts as adjustments) or for me to have saved up enough money anyway (Also saving to build a new gaming PC rig)
I always budget for a system and 5 games whenever I move to a new ecosystem anyway
Not a fan of having a box and nothing to play (I won’t be migrating much of my existing switch library over
(The United States of) America’s nonsense is gonna impact my elderly parents and I need to be in a better position to help them
I feel truly sorry for all those in the US
but the impact the US has on an international is felt all across the globe
@Overzeal
Why do you not consider business owners as part of "we"
@KingMike
because a tariffs doesn't effect Nintendo's cost
If you're a retail store and you want to import a Switch that was made in China
you need to pay a 25% tax on the already marked up price Nintendo charges retailers
So you can either absorb the extra money by lowering your gross margin
or you can keep margin the same by having the costumer pay the tax
As you pointed out 100% of the time they do the latter
If you were talking about how a US made product might react to a impart tax on steel
sure there is nuisance like you are pointing out
and that's what this conversation is speaking to; importing a Nintendo Switch and selling it
I was prepared to stop purchasing new consoles if the makers decided to go digital-only or if they required an internet connection to play purchased games (see the recent PSN outage preventing players from playing completely offline physical games)
I have hundreds of unplayed games to fall back on
Similarly if tariffs skyrocket the Switch 2’s retail price
And if the Switch OG is the last console I buy in my lifetime
That backlog of mine needs to go on a diet
Every time I have grievances with my government (often) I remember at least I’m not American
Tariffs are just another entry in the schlong swinging compendium and Nintendo are one of many
Nintendo will probably just do what is sensible
Which is to just charge 10% more than what they intended to in the US
@Wisestfool That's looking at the bright side of life
@GrailUK risky
@KingMike that’s not how it works
but you have to take into account all kinds of expenses
probably not up to $100… but you catch my drift and I get what you mean
@Summer235
"I’m concerned over food and other necessities and not video games
I do hope for our hobbies sake it won’t be extremely expensive."
and I will point out that for all working class people but the very poor
it will be videogames et al as opposed to food and necessities that will take the hit in our budgets
Regardless of which is more directly affected by tariffs
@MysticX thank you for elaborating
but still a surprising amount of misunderstanding
The US government will collect a 10% tax on US citizens/importers
and they’re unlikely to change their prices much: it depends on how much they prioritize maintaining US market share
but seeing that the US isn't manufacturing PlayStations and XBoxes locally either that's not really at risk anyhow
If the Switch becomes more expensive in the USA because of Trump
If you choose to go to a circus you're gonna get clowns
Nintendo to file a retrospective patent on tarriffing video games and associated hardware
@HeadPirate In this instance it wouldn't increase manufacturing costs further because they wouldn't be setting up new
additional supply lines as the ones in Vietnam and Cambodia already existed to begin with
I’m hoping their response includes some combination of Pacific Rim mechs and Godzilla kaiju
Surely they’re kept in a secret bunker somewhere just waiting for the right moment to unleash them
@HeadPirate @IceClimbers Nintendo already started sending some production to Vietnam following Trump’s first attempt on imposing Chinese tariffs in 2019
I’m not paying more than $300 on a Switch 2 no matter what
I have enough games on Switch 1 to last me years
@AmplifyMJ Well sod it
if the US is going to look out for number one for the next four years
Nothing is going to lower my chances of a day one purchase hahaha (Again
@Ryu_Niiyama That’s admirable that you’re thinking of how this affects your parents
@Wisestfool My backlog’s insane too
I have already almost maxed out 2TB for Switch
Trumpy Dumpy doing his orange best to trash our economy
I have tried to say something about this but I can’t manage to use nice words
Thanks to NintendoLife for not using his picture for the article
Trump wants to impose tariffs on ALL imports
So even if Nintendo were to manufacture the Switch 2 in a country other than China
it would still be subject to tariffs regardless
One can only hope that Nintendo would be willing to sell the Switch 2 at even more of a loss than they previously would have to keep prices low for the consumer
All they'd have to do is stop having everything manufactured in China
Funny how these corporations are never held responsible for the way they have long exploited China's appalling human rights issues when it comes to workers
The desire for cheap labor to make an extra buck always seems to be the last thing anyone is willing to abandon
@Mando44646 Pretty sure the sleeping dog before him did a pretty good job himself
@JayJ Read the whole article
The Switch is not only manufactured in China but also Vietnam and Cambodia
@JayJ do you really think a country that's funding genocide and with really weak union representation domestically cares about working conditions abroad
They just want the most efficient and reliable supply chain
I was expecting a lot more comments removed
No doubt Nintendo will navigate whatever comes down the pike well
They haven't been around this long without figuring out how to weather a storm
He's obviously not as big a personality as his predecessor but Furukawa definitely has his head on collected & straight as Iwata did
I spend most of my year between there and China (which I'm currently in)
The thing I can say about the USA is even our poorest people are rich compared to a lot of the world
I'm not saying our poorest have BMWs but even a lot of our poorest people still have food (maybe not the best)
Our poor live pretty well compared to a lot of other countries and we shouldn't take that for granted
I'm very happy living here and I think all citizens should take the time to appreciate all we have
I hope to have a switch 2 as soon as the Splatoon 4 edition comes out
Because I have budgeted money to buy this for the last few years
I knew there would eventually be a Super Switch or Switch 2 so I put money aside
Even $10 a week for 2 years is over $1,000
the only game I'll probably want is Splatoon 4 and a Mario Game
I have enough backlog of other games to play
Likely tariffs will increase the final price
@Coalescence I feel like Trump supporters are generally too shy to comment on this tariff fiasco
as most of them didn’t knowingly vote for it
@Summer235 If Farmers (produce and meat) come back
Same as with motor vehicles and other industries
Digital will STILL be as expensive as Physical
I am vouching for the american people and nintendo
this is just another example of politics interfering with happiness
@cedarhyped Man has been screaming about enacting more tariffs for years
If they didn't know what this was going to do it's because they refused to look up
I fear that physical games will be a casualty of any global trade war
Most of samsung phone in my country isn't made in china either
some of them made (assemble) in my country
Iphones are more expensive in my country because it's made in china
@batmanbud2 I hope you’re right buddy
It’s discouraging to me that over 51% of the population chose these mean spirited thugs to run things in this country
I know it affects me but I’d just rather not even watch the news these days where criminals are freed and made heroes
I hope at least that people will see this was a bad decision and can remember what made this a good country to begin with
I am deeply concerned the tarrifs are going to make getting my hands on Switch 2 a very expensive endeavor
My limit is about $400 for any game console
but will restrain myself as to not risk having my comment deleted
Tariffs will make the sticker price the same in the U.S
@Vivianeat Crikey
@Summer235 For some people it's not just a hobby though
@MegaVel91 I know how it works
Capitalism is passing as much of the cost onto consumers as you think you can convince them to pay
@Spider-Kev Do you have any idea how long that will take
We don't have the manufacturing or production base we once had
Years we don't have while 51% FAFO themselves into extreme poverty by their own noose
@MegaVel91 They should get to it then instead of waiting
@TYRANACLES The criminals are being fired and removed from the government
@Spider-Kev are you stupid
if Nintendo sends Vietnam-produced Switch 2 units to the US
wouldn’t they also get sent to Canada and Mexico or even South America as those markets are managed by Nintendo of America and they get the same things as in the US
Taxes are taxes we pay them one way or another
I would prefer to tax goods over income because when you tax something you get less of it
If we get tariffs along with real income tax reform it's likely to lead to good things
Meanwhile some people will proclaim the sky is falling because their preferred political team isn't the one in power
They very likely downplayed tax increases when their "team" enacted them
@Spider-Kev and some are completely innocent
This incompetent regime has fired and rehired some already
Nintendo will get impacted regardless when we all can't afford to buy anything from them because other essential things have become more expensive
Tariffs have widespread and lasting consequences
Hold on there, you need to login to post a comment..

newly developed the compact 12-fiber optical connector suitable for CPO (Co-Packaged Optics)
The newly developed 12-fiber optical connector is significantly smaller than conventional multi-fiber optical connectors
with a connection area that is 1/6 MPO connectors (Fig
The semi-automatic connection method using magnets provides excellent connection workability
The connector can withstand 260°C reflow (the process of soldering components to the substrate) that is necessary to be assembled to a CPO substrate
It also employs optical coupling with lenses
there is very little degradation in characteristics when dust adheres to the optical end face
it is also suitable for dusty environments such as data centers
The connection loss is less than 0.5 dB with good repeatability within ± 0.05 dB
This developed connector can also be used as a compact multi-fiber optical connector for connecting optical fibers
In addition to high-density attaching to a glass waveguide substrate that is expected to be applied to the next-generation photonics-electronics convergence form (Fig
it is also applicable to more-fiber structures such as 16-fiber
We are currently developing 40-fiber optical connector
we will give an oral presentation (Lecture No

It’s fair to say that Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has had a “busy day.” After all, during a recent financial briefing, he was dropping serious information about the company, its hardware, and its games
he went and confirmed a long-standing report about the Nintendo Switch 2
he went to Twitter to note that Switch 2 would be able to play OG Switch titles while also being compatible with Nintendo Switch Online
He didn’t reveal too much more than that but promised that more “information” would be provided at a later date
At today's Corporate Management Policy Briefing
we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch
Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well
— 任天堂株式会社(企業広報・IR) (@NintendoCoLtd) November 6, 2024
While we still don’t know anything about the Switch 2’s hardware or software, this is a big deal, and many are likely going to be chomping at the bit to learn even more. Well played, Shuntaro Furukawa. Well played.
A self-proclaimed Nintendo fanboy, born, bred, and Mushroom fed! He’s owned every Nintendo handheld and every console since the SNES. He's got a degree in video game development, is a published comic book writer and an author of several novels!
👔 That’s according to the company’s president Shuntaro Furukawa
🤝 Furukawa reiterated Nintendo’s promise during the company’s latest earnings results

In a statement during Nintendo’s latest earnings results
Furukawa reiterated that the Switch successor will be unveiled before April 2025
as Nintendo’s fiscal year ends on March 31
Furukawa previously shared when Nintendo would announce the Switch 2 back in May, but nothing has materialised since. In statement on X
We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year
It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015.”
Despite a strong lineup of new Switch games, including The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and Mario & Luigi: Brothership
Nintendo lowered its Switch hardware sales forecast to 12.5m for the fiscal year from its previous target of 13.5m
The company’s share price dropped by almost 4% after the announcement
While Nintendo’s latest statement brings us no closer to a Nintendo Switch 2 announcement
it at least confirms that we will see the new console in some shape or form within the next four months
The company’s falling Switch sales also show there’s only so much life left in its aging hardware
as consumers ready themselves for the next big thing from Nintendo

There are no plans to reduce the cost of the original Switch
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has shared some insight into the potential cost of the Nintendo Switch 2
Furukawa said that Nintendo is aware of rising inflation and that the exchange rate has also changed since the launch of the original Switch
but acknowledged that the price of the upcoming console would be in line with the "affordable prices customers expect"
"We are aware that inflation is currently rising and that the exchange rate environment has changed significantly since the launch of the Nintendo Switch in 2017," Furukawa said
"We also need to consider the affordable prices that customers expect from Nintendo products
When considering the price of our products
we believe that it is necessary to consider these factors from multiple angles..."
The president went on to say that he couldn't announce the price of the Switch 2 at this time
"but we are considering it taking into account various points."
Furukawa did confirm that Nintendo has no plans to change the current cost of the original Switch
so customers shouldn't expect a price drop after the Switch 2 eventually releases
During the live stream it's likely we'll finally learn the release date
TechRadar Gaming predicts that the cost of the Switch 2 will be around $399.99 / £349.99 / AU$699.95

THE NATURAL ARISTOCRAT (NIR REGEV): I often hear from voice actors that working on video games kind of strains your voice. When it comes to working on games like Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and so forth what’s been your experience like vocally
TOEI ANIMATIONGame © Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc
TOSHIO FURUKAWA: So in terms of a recording session in the video gaming industry
it’s a fairly quick recording session but we record pretty much three types of every line
Let’s say a character is getting ‘damaged’
there’s a ‘soft damaged’ and ‘medium damaged’ and ‘heavy damaged’
Piccolo protects Gohan in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot
TOEI ANIMATION / Game © Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc
It was quite challenging to vocalize three different types for every single line
But it’s only me in the recording booth
It’s a very productive recording session
every time I get it right from the first recording session
I normally get the job done with 300 words in half an hour and I’ve never really experienced taking an hour for 300 words
The earliest case is maybe 10 minutes for a hundred words
‘Hah’ and then take a little moment and then two ‘Hahs’
then take another a little moment then three ‘Hahs’ etc
Piccolo teaches Gohan in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot
the harder is to to count all those ‘hahs’ for the laughing
The laughs that I just demonstrated (seen in video at the top) were villain laughs
There’s a shorter version of villain laughs and the little longer version and then the really longer version
So there are a lot of variations that I have to bring up to the table
Dragon Ball Z voice actor Toshio Furukawa at Anime NYC 2024
the laughs in that series just like I demonstrated are softer starting and elongates into the big laughs
There’s also three types laughs for that series as well
Piccolo voice actor Toshio Furukawa at Anime NYC 2024
THE NATURAL ARISTOCRAT: In terms of challenge
what role would you say you’re most proud of performing in your career
TOSHIO FURUKAWA: Any of the characters that I played weren’t easy at all
They all had challenges in certain ways… But especially
I thought a very feminine role was quite hard like Hawk’s Eye from Sailor Moon and Burū Shōgun (General Blue) from the Dragon Ball series
Piccolo voice actor Toshio Furukawa of Dragon Ball Super
In the Swordsmith Village arc of Demon Slayer
one of the demons and it was quite hard for me because he was scared pretty much throughout the whole episode for a lot of episodes
And the only voice I vocalized was ‘Heee-!’
I just had this one word in the recording session and I went home
but it was quite hard to vocalize through expressing only one word
how are you?” and then I yelled “Heeee!” and that was it
THE NATURAL ARISTOCRAT: When it comes to acting technique
what do you hope fans remember about your vocal approach to Piccolo
Character designs for Piccolo in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot
TOSHIO FURUKAWA: So my vocal range is not so low
I demonstrated a line and the sound director would say
“Could you try a more lower pitch?” and then “Oh
could you try a little more lower voice?”
(Toshio performs lower pitch voice for press)
Let’s go with that range!” That was kind of a tough moment
TOSHIO FURUKAWA: I was mostly a theater actor to start my career
why don’t you do voice acting?” My boss was also a voice actor
so he just kind of called me in and that’s how it started
So I met the boss and he was voicing for the TV series
and he was voicing for the main character in that show
And he took me to the recording session and the director asked me
why don’t you try voicing now?” And then that’s how we started
It’s a traffic officer TV series and that’s my very first work
Toshio Furukawa on favorite character he’s ever voiced:
The character appeared in the TV series as a villain at first
he became a friend to Goku and all the friends and they build a friendship & fight together
Piccolo has this gentle part of his personality and he has the strength to protect his peers
Dragon Ball Z Piccolo cosplayer at Anime NYC 2024
Toshio Furukawa on Piccolo taking ‘center stage’ in Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO movie:
TOSHIO FURUKAWA: I’ve been acting out this Piccolo role for a long
long time and he doesn’t really transform into other forms… But in this film Piccolo got to transform into Orange Piccolo
I was very excited ’cause that’s something that I was wishing for
I always thought it would be nice if Piccolo could transform into some different form
Toshio Furukawa on most memorable moment voicing Piccolo:
TOSHIO FURUKAWA: When Piccolo stands in front of Gohan to protect him and there’s a hole in his stomach… That’s my favorite
Toshio Furukawa on Dragon Ball franchise creator Akira Toriyama:
we didn’t get to see each other so often ’cause he doesn’t come to recording session every time and on a regular basis
But we often met at the industry parties and he would say to me like
So I’m wishing you the best!”
He was kind cheering me throughout the series and the films. The recent film ‘Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO is also one of the most memorable works for me
Toshio Furukawa on Piccolo and Ace’s (One Piece) cultural and worldwide impact:
TOSHIO FURUKAWA: So both for Piccolo and Ace
I wasn’t expecting them to last long… I thought that this character Piccolo would be killed soon enough and gonna stay gone
I was very surprised that he survived through all the episodes
I’m so happy to live as Piccolo for this long
Spoiler Warning for ‘One Piece’ ahead
Toshio Furukawa on the end of Ace’s story in ‘One Piece’:
TOSHIO FURUKAWA: On the day of the recording session of the very episode
I really didn’t wanna go to the recording studio because I knew what was gonna happen
So then he didn’t tell me of course because it was confidential and all that jazz
But then I had read the manga so I knew what was gonna happen… And it was very sad to find out that he has to be gone
Toshio Furukawa on his first thoughts when he heard the ‘Urusei Yatsura’ anime was being rebooted:
TOSHIO FURUKAWA: I was at the agency office and my manager kindly mentioned that it’s gonna be rebooted… And also he kindly asked whether I was okay with being the role of Ataru Moroboshi’s father
“Is that okay or would you like to deny the request?” That’s kind of how I found out about that
DBZ voice actor Toshio Furukawa at Anime NYC 2024
Toshio Furukawa on most memorable episodes voicing Ataru Moroboshi:
TOSHIO FURUKAWA: So there’s a episode where only Ataru and (Shutaro) Mendo appeared
The director told me and the voice actor for Mendo
I guess we could just wing it.” and we did it
without any rehearsals or talking about it beforehand like
That’s the most memorable moment for me while acting as Ataru (Moroboshi)
Toshio Furukawa on Ataru Moroboshi’s personality:
the Ataru character had lots of different assets in his personalities
He can be very serious but then next second he becomes a very comedic character
there’s a beautiful lady to his left
“I love you” in a very sincere voice
if on his right side there’s another beautiful lady
It would happen at the same time in the same scene
So it was very challenging but it was quite fun to play
(Toshio performs Ataru “I love you” voice)
Toshio Furukawa on returning for the ‘Urusei Yatsura’ reboot anime adaption
TOSHIO FURUKAWA: The new voice actor for Ataru Moroboshi is Hiroshi Kamiya, who’s part of the same agency as mine. So I was very glad that he’s playing him because we have a very close relationship as a Senpai and Kōhai
Before the series started we even had like a
good luck and oh I’ll do my best!” kind of special moment together
Toshio Furukawa on anime now being a worldwide industry
TOSHIO FURUKAWA: Throughout my career when I started I thought I loved my job
but I found out that it has more than that
throughout the world anime is part of pop culture
I was invited to all kinds of conventions all over the world throughout the years
Then one day I got invited to this party with the government related upper scale party
Photo Credit: © 2024 Nir Regev – The Natural Aristocrat®
I was invited to an Ambassadors’ official residence
He said that in this world there is a lot of stuff that’s taken care of with power
like the political speaking and war is happening
They said that was taken care of with strong power
But then what I was very impressed by were his next words… The Ambassador said
“What you are doing is through your performance
but I have this mission that I can still pursue.” So my mindset kind of shifted in a good way because of that
Toshio Furukawa on interacting with fans in USA compared to Japan:
every time I enter a stage with an American audience
(laughs) They’re very excited and they show their emotions out loud and vocalized
It’s really interesting to see those differences
“Shall we do the Goku line?” And then she did the ‘Kamehameha!’ to the American audience…
When 3,000 people in the audience stood up and did the ‘Kamehameha!’ back to us
then I can try my line too!” I did the ‘Makankōsappō!’ to the audience and people did the Special Beam Cannon back
I guess that’s different in this language
(laughs) I realized that it’s a different language

Toshio Furukawa, the Japanese voice actor known for voicing Ace in ONE PIECE, shared his own illustration of the character. Furukawa voiced the character from his first appearance in ONE PIECE Episode 99 (2001). We got to interview the veteran voice actor at last year’s NYC
and his favorite characters.Although he told us that Piccolo (from Dragon Ball) was his favorite
he also shared that ONE PIECE was one of his favorite works and that he didn’t want to go to the recording studio ahead of the episode where Ace died

With One Piece Day 2024 taking place this weekend in Japan
we're expecting some sort of update on The One Piece
Netflix and WIT Studio's reimagining of the East Blue Saga of Eiichiro Oda's beloved manga
Although casting announcements are unlikely to be revealed this weekend
we have had one of the original voice actors from the One Piece anime series express his desire to return to the same role in WIT studio's remake
Japanese voice actor Toshio Furukawa recently attended the anime convention Otakuthon in Montreal
For those unfamiliar Furukawa voiced Portgas D
Ace in the original One Piece anime series
Ace is the biological son of the late Pirate King
as well as the sword older brother of Monkey D
As reported by Ohime Tenshi (via Comicbook.com)
Furukawa said he would "love" to voice Ace again in WIT Studio's The One Piece remake
although he doesn't know if he'll be called for the role
Ace doesn't exactly have the largest role in the manga
for reasons I won't explain to avoid spoilers
but it's possible that The One Piece could deviate from the shonen's story
Toshio Furukawa is one of the industry's most prominent voice actors
he is perhaps most famously known for playing the part of Piccolo in Dragon Ball
He has also taken on the roles of Ataru in Urusei Yatsuru
WIT should seriously consider casting him as Ace again
WIT Studio and Netflix's The One Piece as announced last year
The upcoming remake aims to provide viewers "with a fresh yet familiar experience
utilizing cutting-edge visual technology to reimagine Luffy’s adventures through the beloved East Blue Saga."
"The East Blue is the introductory saga of the manga and 1999 anime series
where fans first meet Luffy," Netflix explained when the remake was first announced
the East Blue is the birthplace of the infamous pirate Gold Roger
who inspires Luffy to become a pirate himself and find the One Piece treasure
It’s in this chapter where Luffy meets his ragtag pirate crew
we haven't heard much about the remake since its initial announcement
will include a new update on The One Piece series
along with other exciting announcements and reveals
The One Piece was vaguely detailed as "in production" back in December 2023
so hopefully we get a more detailed update on the show's status
One Piece Day takes place in Japan from August 9 through August 11
but the One Piece YouTube channel will stream several hours from the event
The Exhibition Area Open Stage will be streamed all weekend from August 9 at 7:00 PM PDT to August 10 at 1:30 AM PDT for the Saturday event day and from August 10 at 6:00 PM PDT to August 11 at 1:55 AM PDT for Sunday’s events
Details on The One Piece anime are scheduled for the stage events
although it's unclear if this will be included in the stream
The talk over Nintendo Switch 2 hasn’t died down, and with its latest financial briefing
Nintendo has shown even more than people are ready for the new console
is when we’ll get it and how many people will be able to get it at launch
We’re not solely talking about the units Nintendo will have at launch
but also those who will buy a unit and then sell it back at a much higher price
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa spoke with the press, as noted by Nikkei, and made the following statement about potential scalpers:
“We will take all possible measures based on the experience we have accumulated to date (regarding scalpers and the like). We are making preparations.”
Obviously, only time will tell if The Big N is able to keep scalpers away. There have been unique suggestions about how to get around that, but it’s up to the company itself to work things out. Regardless, the countdown continues towards the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2nd.
That might seem like an obvious statement considering the success of the first Switch
but as the rest of the industry shifts away from exclusives
Furukawa’s comments come from Nintendo’s latest earnings report (an official transcript can be seen on the Nintendo website)
While Furukawa’s comment can apply to Nintendo games at large
his answer more specifically means games that are only playable on Switch 2
and not playable on the original Switch as well
he confirms that two previously announced games will be coming to the original Switch
and not made exclusive to just the new console
"We announced Pokémon Legends Z-A and Metroid Prime 4 Beyond as titles for the Nintendo Switch in 2025
Since many people play the Nintendo Switch
we would like to release software for it,” Furukawa says
dedicated software is very important when launching new hardware
we would like to consider various ways to enable many customers to play our games through the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2."
After being announced all the way back in 2017
Metroid Prime 4 will finally be released in 2025
But Furukawa makes it sound like they want to have a big showing of brand-new games right out of the gate too
That also means new games can really harness the power of the Switch 2
not having to worry about compromising to still get on the original system
A new Mario Kart was announced during the Switch 2 reveal
and now it begs the question — will Mario Kart only be playable on Switch 2
Which games will be on which system needs to be one of the core questions Nintendo answers with the Switch 2’s full reveal
Furukawa also briefly touched on the price point for Switch 2
pointing to multiple factors that will determine it
"Not only does Nintendo have to take into account Japan’s increased inflation rate
it also has to consider that the exchange rate environment has changed considerably since the Switch launched in 2017,” Furukawa says
“Nintendo also has to consider the affordability that our customers expect from Nintendo products.”
one of the main improvements are the Joy-Cons — which seem to have some kind of mouse-like functionality
It’s hard to say exactly what the price will be right now, but multiple analysts are predicting $400
That would make sense in comparison to other consoles on the market
with the PS5 Digital Edition currently coming in at $450 and the Xbox Series S at $300
it seems like Nintendo is trying to have its cake and eat it too
Furukawa says as long as there’s “demand” for Nintendo Switch
It’s easy to see why looking at the numbers released alongside the earnings Q&A
The Switch now sits at 150.86 million units sold
which makes it the third-best-selling system of all time — behind Nintendo DS (154 million) and PS2 (160 million)
It seems likely Nintendo may continue to support the Switch in a bid to push it to that top spot
as long as Switch software continues to sell
With Mario Party Jamboree becoming the series’ best-selling game last year
it certainly seems like there’s still demand
All of these comments seem to point to a Nintendo that’s playing things much more safely and reserved than when it launched the Switch eight years ago. In the end, it’ll be interesting to see how things play out, especially in comparison to the recent struggles of both Sony and Microsoft
The Nintendo Switch 2 showcase is scheduled for April 2
we had the opportunity to speak to legendary voice actor Toshio Furukawa alongside other members of the press
Furukawa-san is well known for his roles as Ataru Moboroshi in Urusei Yatsura
The conversation covered a variety of his voice acting roles but gave particular attention to Dragon Ball
This interview has been lightly edited for clarity and length
Q: What made you become a voice actor?A: I was mostly a theater actor to start my career
why don’t you try voice acting?” Just because he
So he just kind of called me in and that’s how it started
He was voicing for the TV series FBI for the main character in that show
And he took me to the recording session and the director asked me to try voicing
My very first work was — maybe you may not know it — but there’s a TV show called Chips
That’s the character’s name.Q: Do you have a favorite Popeye episode from when you were growing up?A: I wasn’t really voicing for any characters for Popeye
but my senpais were in the show voicing some of the characters
so that’s one of the reasons why I kind of started this career
more cowardly characters like Inspector Yamamura and Detective Conan?A: Both stronger characters and soft characters broadened my ability to play all kinds of roles
I really appreciate every single one of the characters I played.Q: How has your experience interacting with fans in the USA been different from Japan?A: When I come to America
They’re very excited and then they show their emotions
very quiet and it’s really interesting to see those differences
who voiced Goku — Masako-san and I went to these anime conventions in America
and Masako-san did Kamehameha to the American audience and then 3,000 people in the audience stood up and did Kamehameha back to us and that was a great memory
so I stood up and did Makankosappo to the audience
and then people did the Special Beam Cannon back — and I thought “Oh
I guess that’s different in this language” (laughs)
Do you have a favorite role and why?A: Piccolo
Piccolo appears in the TV series as a villain at first but then as the series goes on
he becomes a friend to Goku and all the friends and they build a friendship and fight together
he has this gentle part of his personality as well as a strength to protect his peers
So he has both elements within him and I think it’s very cool
Nowadays Piccolo has even become like a housekeeper to Gohan’s household.Q: I often hear from voice actors that working on video games kind of strains their voice
what’s been your experience vocally?A: In terms of a recording session in the video game industry
We record pretty much three types in every line
So it was quite challenging to vocalize three different types
[…] So it’s a very productive recording session
Pretty much every time I get it right for the first recording session
I normally get 300 words done in half an hour
And I’ve never really experienced taking an hour for 300 words
The fastest case is maybe 10 minutes for 100 words
Q: What are some of your favorite manga and anime of all time?A: Dragon Ball
So I didn’t really remake anything or adjust anything
we talked about something like this before we even recorded the session
so Director Oshii mentioned please be natural as much as possible
there were some characters that I was kind of over-acting for [he demonstrated an example of over-acting a few lines]
that’s too much.” So he wanted more real conversation
So that was my characterization in that series.Q: In terms of challenge
what role would you say you’re most proud of performing in your career?A: Any of the characters that I play weren’t easy
and they all had challenges in certain ways
but I especially found it quite hard to play feminine roles like Hawkeye from Sailor Moon and General Blue from Dragon Ball
During the Swordsmith Village Arc of Demon Slayer
And it was quite hard for me because he was scared throughout a lot of episodes and the only voice I vocalized was “Hee.” And then one day
I just had the one word in the recording session and I went home
it was quite hard to vocalize that one word
I entered the recording room and then I said
you were recording for a Japanese audience
how has your job changed?A: Throughout my career
But I found out that it was more than that
manga — it’s a worldwide well-known form of content
there is a lot that is taken care of with power
what I was very impressed by from his words was that he said
“What you are doing through your performance
it takes away all the boundaries [of] culture
but I have this mission that I can pursue.” My mindset kind of shifted in a good way at that point.Dragon BallQ: Sadly
Akira Toriyama passed away earlier this year
Piccolo is one of your most well-known roles; what was your relationship with Toriyama like?A: Normally we didn’t get to see each other so often because he didn’t come to recording sessions every time
But we often would meet at industry parties
so I’m wishing you the best,” and that kind of cheered me on throughout the series
And the film [he last cheered me on for] is the Dragon Ball Super Hero
and that’s also one of the more memorable works for me
Q: Piccolo was recently given some time in the spotlight
How was it taking center stage as that character?A: I’ve been acting out this Piccolo role for a long time
And he doesn’t really transform into some other forms
Piccolo got to transform into Orange Piccolo
so I was very excited because that’s something that I was wishing for
[for] Piccolo to transform into some different forms.Q: When it comes to acting technique
what do you hope fans remember about your vocal approach to Piccolo?A: My vocal range is not so low
“Could you try a little more lower?” And lower voice
Q: Piccolo and Ace have such a cultural and worldwide impact
Were you aware of how these characters were going to impact the entire world before taking the roles?A: For both Piccolo and Ace
I wasn’t expecting that they would last long
I thought that these characters would be killed soon enough would be gone
So I was very surprised that they even survived through so many episodes and I am so happy to live as those characters for this long.Q: You said that Piccolo was your favorite character to do
What was your most memorable moment or fight for Piccolo?A: When Piccolo stands in front of Gohan to protect him
and there’s a hole in his stomach […] it was the best moment that we had
Q: What went through your mind and where were you when you heard Urusei Yatsura was going to get rebooted?A: I was at the agency office and my manager kindly mentioned that it was going to be rebooted and also he kindly asked whether I would be okay with being Ataru’s father.Q: How does it feel to return to Urusei Yatsura?A: The new voice actor for Moroboshi
so I was very glad to be playing as his senpai
because we have a very close relationship as a senpai and kouhai
Ataru’s characterization would often differ depending on the director or writer
How would you get into character when Ataru’s character would frequently change from episode to episode and throughout the series?A: Ataru’s character itself had lots of different assets in his personality
So he’s very serious at times but then the next second he becomes a very comedic character
there’s a beautiful lady in his left and he would say
“I love you” in a very ikemen voice and also on the other hand
there’s another beautiful lady and then he’s kind of
very ikemen essence one second and the next second
in the same scene so at the time it was very challenging but it was quite fun to play.Q: Looking back on your work as Ataru
are there any particular episodes or moments that stand out as your favorite or most memorable?A: So there is an episode where there are only Ataru and Mendo appeared — just two of us in the entire episode and the director said to us “Well
since you guys know each other very well I guess we could just wing it” and we did it
the first half 13 minutes and the second half 13 minutes
and we just winged it without any rehearsals or talking about it
But then we got it right the first time so that day I got to go home very early
That’s a very memorable moment while acting as Ataru
was it sad to see that character go?A: So the day of the recording session of the episode [when Ace died]
I really didn’t wanna go to the recording studio because I knew what was gonna happen
But before then I casually asked the producer “Hey
is Ace gonna die sometime soon?” But then he didn’t tell me of course for confidentiality
But I’d read the manga so I knew what was gonna happen and it was very sad to find out that he had to go

Nintendo has said it is seeing overwhelming demand for its upcoming Switch 2 game console in Japan
in a sign the gadget could be on track for the biggest hardware launch in the video game industry’s history
"We have received 2.2 million applications for the lottery sale at our official online store for customers in Japan alone
which is far larger than what we had anticipated,” Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa posted on X on Wednesday
we apologize that a significant number of the applicants wouldn’t be selected.”googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1499653692894-0'); });

Will continue to support current hardware "as long as there is demand"
Switch games will be playable on the successor to Switch, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said during the company’s second quarter financial results and corporate management policy briefing for the fiscal year ending March 2025
Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch
including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch
As previously stated
the successor to Switch will be announced within this fiscal year

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa was asked what it was doing to make sure the Switch 2 avoids the launch shortage issues the original Switch suffered back in 2017
So, what could these "preparations" involve? Making loads of Nintendo Switch 2 units, it seems. Last year, Nintendo stressed the importance of manufacturing enough Switch 2 consoles to meet demand as a key tactic for beating the scalpers
When the Nintendo Switch launched back in March 2017 it suffered from a constrained supply
boosting scalpers who sold the console at inflated prices
Furukawa said things will be different when it comes to launching the Switch successor
we believe that the most important thing is to produce a sufficient number to meet customer demand
and this idea has not changed since last year,” Furukawa said at the time
we are considering whether there are any other measures that can be taken to the extent allowed by laws and regulations
taking into account the circumstances of each region
“Although we were unable to produce sufficient quantities of Nintendo Switch hardware last year and the year before due to a shortage of semiconductor components
we do not believe that the shortage of components will have a significant impact on the production of the successor model.”
Nintendo plans a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where it will reveal more. Nintendo will also hold Switch 2 hands-on events in cities around the world
Furukawa also touched on plummeting sales of the Nintendo Switch
which he denied had anything to do with consumers waiting to buy a Switch 2 instead
"We don't think the impact of refraining from purchasing is that great,” Furukawa insisted
but we haven't reached our target."
They should consider expanding on that and making the entire Switch 2 system inedible
They are the only video game console company that cares about their customers in any real way
I bet Scalpers are taking all possible measures as well
The first waves of pre-orders will probably be reserved to Nintendo account holders only
Open pre-orders to switch online subscribers first
just making sure they don't leave money on the table
Nintendo promises are always gone with the wind
I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo themselves would be the ones causing the self inflicted shortages in order to cause demand
what's the point of producing so many in the first place
You need to find a way to sell to actual players
Controlling your sales system is the key to stopping scalpers
Why don't you let me pre-order one now and wait in line
only sell direct from nintendo website and only take one order per payment source
Open up pre-orders to Nintendo online subscribers who have a verified account for a week or so first before opening up to the public
Then just try and make enough consoles to leave the scalpers holding the bag
Simply communicating that we've made a butt load of these to combat your ability to mark them up on resale vs communicating there will be limited quantities and we're relying on FOMO is a quality first step
Hey I have a really weird and unusual idea..
Why don't you open pre-orders now and charge the full price for the pre order
build out inventory to support several million to sell outside of the pre-orders
Nintendo will unleash its assassins on the scalpers
amazon and other 3rd party p2p listing sites from allowing users to list items at prices greater than retail for 6-12 months following official release date
treat item scalping the same as event ticket scalping
which in most states have already established laws against it
The tech is probably 5 years old shouldn't be any shortages
They make a million burner phones a day I'm sure they have enough switches
& Microsoft Haven't done jack to stop scalpers
In Nvidia case its like they are encouraging scalpers with their dismal supply of 5090's at launch
And Sony only seems to give a crap about scalpers if you live in japan
Sony solved the scalping issue with the PS5 Pro
I never bought a Switch and am holding out for the Switch 2
Scalpers depend on the impatience and ignorance of the masses
