Isabel Gose and Lukas Martens Claim 200 Free Titles at Gothaer and Friends Meet
The final day of the Gothaer and Frieds Meet in Magdeburg was highlighted by victories from Isabel Gose and Lukas Martens in the 200-meter freestyle
Gose was first up on the blocks and secured a four-second decision when she touched the wall in 1:58.38
who earlier in the weekend won the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle
followed by winning the men’s 200 freestyle in 1:46.16
Gose and Martens are among a strong contingent of German athletes who figure to be factors at this summer’s World Championships in Singapore
They will be joined in Asia by the likes of Angelina Kohler and Florian Wellbrock
as Germany continues to deepen its arsenal on the international level
Results
Johannes Liebmann became the fourth German man to crack the 15-minute barrier in the 1500 feestyle this year when he won the event in 14:57.00
Liebmann prevailed by more than a minute and joined countryman Florian Wellbrock (14:38.27)
Oliver Klemet (14:43.01) and Sven Schwarz (14:52.62) as Germans who have gone faster than 15:00 in 2025
After taking first place in the 400 freestyle on Saturday
Maya Werner was fastest in the women’s 200 backstroke
Nina Holt completed the sprint-freestyle sweep when she clocked 25.11 to top the field in the 50 freestyle

we are discussing the madness that occurred at the Ft Lauderdale Pro Swim
Ledecky’s world record in the 800 free proves that age is seemingly just a number for her
but it also makes the Rio 2016 swim she beat out more memorable
Marchand has a few areas of improvement to work on if he hopes to return to his Paris form at the World Championships this summer in Singapore
having tight battles in both the 200 and 400 IM but ultimately touching 2nd in both
Cal Bear and Mexican swimmer Humberto Najera took down a pair of national records in the men’s backstroke events
April 12th, 2025 Australia, Europe, International, News, Previews & Recaps
Day one of the 2025 Swim Open Stockholm brought an unexpected World Record at the hands of German Lukas Märtens
Racing in the men’s 1500m freestyle, Märtens unleashed a time of 3:39.96 to overwrite the longstanding supersuited record countryman Paul Biedermann put on the books in 2009
Another race we highlighted was the men’s 50m fly where 26-year-old Olympic medlaist Kyle Chalmers produced a new lifetime best of 22.89
he became the 2nd-fastest Australian in history and the fastest from his nation in textile
There were additional races worth noting as well, including the women’s 1500m freestyle, where Isabel Gose established a new meet record en route to gold
22-year-old Gose of Germany stopped the clock at 15:58.17, narrowly defeating open water Olympic silver medalist Moesha Johnson of Australlia
Johnson settled for silver less than half a second back in 15:58.53 while Gose’s teammate Celine Rieder rounded out the podium in 16:24.58
Gose’s performance checks in as the 8th-best of her career
one which boasts a lifetime best and German national record of 15:41.16 as she won bronze at the 2024 Olympic Games
Gose and Johnson now rank 2nd and 3rd in the world
The men’s 200m breast saw Poland’s Jan Kalusowski come within range of the current national record en route to gold
a mark just half a second away from Dawid Wikiera‘s Polish standard of 2:09.99 clinched in 2022
Wikiera was also in tonight’s race but finished well back in 2:12.26 for silver. Germany’s Lukas Matzerath bagged the bronze in 2:12.45
Kalusowski’s time was just .29 off his lifetime best and was also only .17 off the World Aquatics ‘A’ standard of 2:10.32 needed for this summer’s World Championships
Chalmers’ teammate Iona Anderson got it done for gold in the women’s 50m back
producing a swift 27.58 to get to the wall first
She represented one of two sub-29-second swimmers, joined by Belgian national record holder Roos Vanotterdijk who hit 27.81. Dutch Olympian Marrit Steenbergen also landed on the podium in 28.82
Anderson’s lifetime best sits at 27.52 while Vanotterdijk’s time tonight checks in as a new career-best mark
It improved her former Belgian record of 27.97 from February of 2023

A product of Bellflower High School in Bellflower, California and the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy in Compton, Anthony Gose dominated the Southern California high school baseball scene in the early-to-mid-2000s and was on pace to be the highest left-handed pitcher drafted since Bill Bordley, who was drafted 4th overall by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 1976 MLB June Amateur Draft
Unfortunately for Gose, some rotator cuff tendinitis during his senior season gave teams enough doubt to have his draft stock plummet and he ended up being selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the second round of the 2008 MLB Draft
It is a pastime for baseball scouts and talking heads to throw around wildly inappropriate comparisons for teenagers who can’t legally drink alcohol or rent a car
Baseball America likened him to fellow flame-throwing lefties Scott Kazmir and Billy Wagner
Before Gose logged a single professional inning
analysist and talking heads were talking about him in the same breath as multiple-time all-stars and eventual Hall of Famer Roy Halladay
Just prior to the 2010 trade deadline, the Phillies included Gose in a package that was sent to the Houston Astros in exchange for Oswalt. Before Gose could even suit up for an Astros minor league affiliate, he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Brett Wallace
GM Alex Anthopoulos had tried to acquire Gose in the Roy Halladay trade
floating a deal to then-Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr
to send the six-time all-star to the City of Brotherly Love in exchange for pitcher Kyle Drabek
but the deal was rejected and Gose eventually replaced in the final deal with outfielder Michael Taylor
did Gose’s development as a prospect live up to such lofty expectations
did scouts and evaluators see shades of Scott Kazmir
when he was 26-years-old and growing a bit long in the tooth as a “prospect”
Anthony Gose did not throw a single professional inning
Despite being drafted by the Phillies in 2008 as a pitcher
the decision was made that he break in as a professional as an outfielder
so that he could play everyday and the teams he played for could benefit from his above-average speed
Maybe in today’s day and age things would’ve been different
but the concept of “two-way player” was alien and non-existent in 2008
A hitter he was, but unfortunately, he was a bad one. Between 2008 and 2017, he averaged a 93 wRC+ in the minor leagues and a 78 wRC+ in 372 cumulative games in the majors with the Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers
but a lot of good that does if you’re not getting on base much to begin with
when it became very apparent that his professional baseball days might be over sooner rather than later
Gose returned to the mound in an effort to prolong his career
While he might not have been able to thrive as a batter
maybe he would be able to get a second baseball life by returning to his roots
Not everyone is capable to throwing 100 MPH like Gose could
who has an invitation to spring training but will most likely begin the year with the Syracuse Mets barring unforeseen injuries to the Mets’ bullpen or the southpaw coming out of the gates on fire
he threw his fastball roughly 2/3 of the time and his slider 1/3
but in 2024 he used his fastball a little bit less and his slider a little bit more in both his time in Triple-A as well as in the majors
with his fastball usage down to just over 50% and his slider usage up to just under 50%
The pitch isn’t just pure brute strength either
as it averaged about 16 inches of induced vertical break
His slider sits in the upper-80s and features short
late slice with roughly 2 inches of drop and 4 inches of break
Gose’s slider was a well-above-average pitch in 2024
with his slider having a 38.5% CSW (Called Strike+Whiff) Rate and his fastball having a 26.4% rate
While neither pitch got too many batters to chase
with his slider posting a 31.1% Chase Rate and his fastball a 35.3% rate to an average of 30.7%
batters had a hard time putting either pitch in play
as opposed to the 2024 Triple-A average of 82.7%; likewise
In his 44.2 innings with the Columbus Clippers in 2024
as he had a 15.2% BB% (6.0 BB/9) in 21.0 innings with the Cleveland Indians in 2022 and a 19.4% (7.6 BB/9) in 33.0 innings with Columbus in 2021
and the Mets have had two players in team history don double-nines
but also ingrained himself into Mets lore with his quirky superstitions

officers with the Cape Coral Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a gray Ford Ranger in the 3600-block of Del Prado Blvd S
The driver was swerving across lanes of traffic and the officer believed the driver may be having a medical episode
From approximately the 4400-block of Del Prado Blvd
the vehicle swerved multiple times and traveled between all three lanes
The officer turned on their lights in the 3900-block of Del Prado Blvd
and the driver passed several driveways and parking lots in which it would’ve been safe to stop
the officer could immediately see his eyes were bloodshot and glassy
The officer could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and noticed a beer bottle in the center console within reach of the driver
There was also a spilled clear plastic cup on the passenger floorboard that contained an alcoholic beverage
Gose initially said he didn’t have his license
but officers saw his wallet on the passenger side floorboard
Gose grabbed the wallet and handed over his license
Gose was unsteady on his feet and had difficulty listening to instructions to stand in one place and stop moving
The officer attempted Standard Field Sobriety Exercises
This continued for several minutes until Gose was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence
Gose initially wouldn’t answer officers when asked if he would submit to a breath test
As officers were gathering his belongings to put into the patrol car
saying he would find where the officer lived after he got out of jail
that officers were messing with the wrong person
and that he could “find out anything in 15 minutes.”
He continued to threaten the officer on the drive
and continued yelling obscenities and “I’m going to find you.”

and the academic preparation that I got was
I think of all the great professors I had – Ed and Sharon Browning
Ben Collier and so many others – and had I gone to a flagship institution
I would not have had a relationship with those individuals

Back in 2012 the Mets trade R.A. Dickey to the Blue Jays for a package built around Noah Syndergaard and Travis d’Arnaud
Gose has gone through a lot since those days
Gose would make his Major League debut in 2012
playing 56 games for the Blue Jays hitting .223/.303/.319 with a 71 OPS+
He would then play portions of five seasons from 2012 to 2016 with the Jays and the Tigers
His best offensive year was 2015 where he played in 140 games hitting .254/.321/.367 (90 OPS+)
After his 2016 season he made the switch from outfield to pitcher
In 2021, Gose made his major debut as a pitcher, at age 30, with the Guardians for 6 2/3 innings over six games. The following year he got into 22 games over 21 innings with the Guardians with a 4.71 ERA, 5.06 FIP, 1.381 WHIP and an 81 ERA+. Later in 2022, he would have Tommy John surgery
Gose saw three innings in the majors last year allowing five runs over 4 1/3 innings
Photo Credit: David Richard-USA TODAY Sports
Gose only used two pitches in his three major league innings in 2024
He had a mid-90s four-seamer and an upper-80s slider
In 2022 he tossed exactly one changeup (88 mph)
The Mets are hoping to get a version of the 2022 Anthony Gose
His skills may not have translated on the mound
but there were some interesting under-the-hood things happening
He didn’t pitch enough to fully get into the 2022 Baseball Savant percentile rankings
but his Whiff% (33.5) and strikeout rate (30.4) would have been around 90th percentile
his xERA (5.04) would have been near the bottom the league and he was getting rocked with a 92.9 average exit velocity
Last year the Mets showed that they would switch things up in the bullpen when things weren’t working and cycled frequently through pitchers
or something goes horribly wrong with the Mets
we will see him at some point this year with the Major League club
Can Anthony Gose seize the opportunity when it’s his time
Can the Mets pitching lab unlock the potential from his raw skills and turn it into on-field results
Here’s what to look for this spring with Gose:

USA Baseball announced its roster for the WBSC Premier12 2024 presented by RAXUS

There are very strict guidelines we need to use

Day 4 Finals: Isabel Gose Golden; Jillian Cox Gets Bronze from Morning Heat in 1,500
The 1,500 freestyle is a marathon in the pool
but it was nothing compared to the wait for Jillian Cox Friday in Budapest
Isabel Gose came in with the fastest time in the final of the women’s 1500 free at the World Short-Course Championships
but Cox’s patience paid off with her time from the morning beating all but two in the fastest heat at night to get bronze
Gose clocked in at 15:24.69 to secure gold
nearly five and a half seconds up on Simona Quadarella of Italy
But Cox’s time of 15:41.29 from the morning — despite her miscounting and finishing to her feet instead of her hands — slotted into the canyon between the finish of Quadarella and France’s Anastasiia Kirpichnikova for the 19-year-old American to grab a bronze medal
“That was the most stressful 10 minutes of my life,” Cox said
It is possible to medal from those morning swims
I miscounted the mile and did a flip turn instead of a hand touch
The 22-year-old from Berlin medaled in the three longest races at the long-course World Championships – silver in the 800
bronze in the 400 and 1,500 – then took home her first Olympic medal with bronze in the 1,500 free in Paris
She finished second to Australia’s Lani Pallister
the reigning champion and meet-record holder
and I felt the whole week after the finish
But I am so happy with this result and with this whole week – did not think it would go this well before the start of the event
I am really proud that I can finish off this year like this.”
adds a third career Short-Course medals to go with eight in long-course Worlds
the French silver medalist in Paris in the 1,500
“I was really happy with the medal and the time,” Quadarella said
I tried to focus on my race and did my best.”
who went 16:09.72 at the last World Championships in Melbourne in 2022
Tiana Kritzinger finished fifth in 15:44.44
MLB Trade Rumors
By Darragh McDonald | December 20
Both pitchers also receive invites to major league spring training
spent many years as a position player in the majors but didn’t find much success and converted to the mound
he has intrigued with some high velocity and strikeout potential but has also shown control issues
He tossed 27 2/3 innings for the Guardians over 2021 and 2022, allowing 3.90 earned runs per nine. He averaged 97.6 miles per hour on his fastball and struck out 31.9% of batters faced but also gave out free passes at a 13.8% clip. Tommy John surgery wiped out his entire 2023 season
He returned to the mound in 2024 but only got into three big league games
He tossed 44 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level with a 3.22 ERA
He’s only really been pitching for a few years and the big surgery layoff put things on pause for a while
A 34-year-old with ongoing control problems might be considered a lost cause but Gose is perhaps a special case due to his unusual trajectory
He has less than four years of service time and can be retained beyond 2025 if he has a roster spot at season’s end
Ortiz, 29, is not to be confused with the Luis Ortiz who was recently traded from the Pirates to the Guardians
This Ortiz has pitched for the Orioles and Giants before spending the past two years with the Phillies
He has tossed 34 innings over five different MLB seasons with a 4.76 ERA
10.5% walk rate and 48.6% ground ball rate
He only made one big league appearance in 2024 and only five in the minors
He missed time due to ankle and shoulder injuries before undergoing Tommy John surgery in July
He will therefore miss most or perhaps all of the 2025 campaign
he tossed 155 1/3 Triple-A innings with a 4.58 ERA
he still has one option season and less than two years of service time
New York Mets Transactions Anthony Gose Luis Ortiz
The Mets may need a second AAA team at this rate
They really do seem to be doing more of these than any other team
I’m sure by the time the offseason ends it’ll even out but as of now
they have to be near the lead in minor league signings
These MiLB depth signings are sure to anger the fans
Drafted by the Rangers in 2014,traded to Brewers in 2016
If a 28 year old well traveled minor league journeyman is a prospect when he joined the Phillies
(BR makes no “reference” to this) I have oceanfront property in Arizona
Link me to the 2023 Phillies prospect rankings showing him on the list
The peanut gallery goes silent once again when presented with facts
Maybe they are going to package all these to the Bluejays for Guerrero
yes that’s definitely what Stearns is thinking
Are there any other guys who have played both sides
Babe Ruth is the iconic star pitcher who became a star hitter
HOF Pitcher Bob Lemon played CF opening day 1946 in HOF Bob Feller’s no hitter
Babe taking up hitting and Lemon taking up pitching full time were great choices
I can also add in Brooks Kieschnick and Bucky Walters
As impressive as those guys are to have the skill set to play at the MLB level doing both
someone like Pat Venditte impressed me more being able to pitch at the MLB level with either arm
To me it’s insane that somebody has the ability to throw in the 90’s with either arm
Or maybe Jim Abbot or Pete Gray making it to the majors with one arm
I understand none of these guys are in the conversation with Babe Ruth or Shohei Ohtani but I still find their abilities fascinating
@ Joe It All… As impressive as Venditte’s feat was
he never threw in the 90’s or even close
Joe It All: Props to Venditte for making it to MLB
but 72.1 innings in 61 games with a 4.73 ERA and -0.1 WAR across five seasons hardly qualifies as impressive
Granny Hamner from the 1950 Phillies Whiz Kids developed a knuckle ball after he couldn’t hit or field effectively and had a cup of coffee as a pitcher
Stearns plan for pitching is pretty obvious at this point at the off-season
He thinks he can built a bullpen and rotation on a budget
I hope he realizes that Soto isn’t going to be able to produce 5 runs a game
The Mets have by far make the most minor league/spring training invitee signings so far I feel like
@sadmarinersfan Stearns has a list and as the GM of a rich team can stock up on fringy guys
especially high K high BB arms that by taking a little off can give you a useful 20-30 innings
Amazing how few GMs genuinely understand how critical it is to keep their worst 20 players off the field as much as possible in a given season
giving his worst 30 players in 2018 enough playing time to cost the Mets an incredible negative 13 WAR or about 13 wins in a season when the Mets went 77-85 and would have gone into the postseason had they made it with a rotation of
The guardians will still try to designate Gose for assignment a few times in 2025

— A Fort Myers man is facing multiple charges after police say he was driving drunk and later threatening officers
officers with the Cape Coral Police Department found a driver swerving all over the road on Del Prado Boulevard South
The officer believed the driver may be having a medical episode
The driver was later identified as 30-year-old Claude Gose Jr
From approximately around the 4400 block of Del Prado Boulevard
swerved multiple times and traveled between all three lanes
The officer turned on their lights in the 3900 block of Del Prado Boulevard
passed several driveways and parking lots in which it would’ve been safe to stop
Music was blasting and officers asked him to shut the truck off
the officer said his eyes were bloodshot and glassy
The officer said they smelled alcohol and saw a beer bottle in the center console
Gose started to take a Standard Field Sobriety test
said he was not drunk and called the test "ridiculous."
He was arrested for suspicion of DUI and then charged with threatening a police officer
"Wait till I find where you [expletive] live," Gose Jr
is caught on camera saying in the back of the patrol car
saying he has four nationalities and can "know everything in 15 minutes
Police spokesperson Lisa Greenberg says this arrest was directly related to the DUI operation the department had over the weekend
At least nine people were arrested for DUI and they will be out in full force on Monday
"We are going to have officers patrolling our roads
making sure that anyone who maybe impaired is not on the roadway," she explained
the initiatives were aimed at elevating the standard and generating lasting memories for athletes and coaches alike

He has one of the most impressive and unique set of skills in history and yet got only a minor-league contract from the New York Mets earlier this month

Cleveland had designated both relievers for assignment in recent days
The Guardians announced that Gose accepted his assignment
He can be selected back to the big league roster whenever the team needs a fresh arm
and Barlow’s release creates an opening to do so rather easily
Barlow pitched in 63 games for the Guardians this year. Cleveland acquired the right-hander in an offseason swap that sent Enyel De Los Santos to the Padres
It was a rare trade in which the Guardians took on a fairly significant salary — he ultimately settled on a $6.7MM deal for his final year of arbitration — to add the more established player
Barlow had been the Royals’ closer in recent seasons and worked in high-leverage spots with San Diego in the second half of last year
That track record initially earned him important innings with Cleveland
Barlow had pitched fairly well through the season’s first few months
A tough second half had increasingly pushed him down the leverage hierarchy for skipper Stephen Vogt
Barlow has allowed nearly six earned runs per nine with a diminished 18.9% strikeout rate since the All-Star Break
He had fanned more than 32% of batters faced with a 3.52 ERA in 38 1/3 innings during the season’s first half
Barlow’s overall numbers are passable
He has a 4.25 ERA with an above-average 28.2% strikeout percentage and a grounder rate above 47%
His 12.9% walk rate is high but not dramatically above last season’s 11.4% mark
The late-season dip in performance was concerning
and that’s especially true considering Barlow’s velocity
He had averaged 95 MPH on his fastball and 84-85 on his slider during his best seasons with Kansas City
Those respective marks dipped to 93 and 83 last year and are down further this season
Barlow’s slider has checked in around 81 MPH all year
His fastball had dipped to the 90-91 range in the last couple months
The Guardians remain on the hook for the final few weeks of Barlow’s salary
He surpassed six years of major league service this season and would have been a free agent during the upcoming offseason in any case
Barlow could try to sign with another contender for the final couple weeks of the regular season
but he would not be eligible for postseason play
He may choose to look ahead to next offseason
Barlow could still find a big league deal going into 2025
though he’s unlikely to land the multi-year contract that seemed it’d be on the table a couple months ago
an outright was the expected outcome after Cleveland designated him for assignment for the fourth time in the last month
The southpaw had the right to elect free agency but is clearly comfortable with the organization
as he either accepted an outright or re-signed on a minor league deal shortly after each of his previous DFAs
Gose has made three MLB appearances this season
He carries a 3.27 ERA with huge strikeout (32.8%) and walk (14.7%) rates over 41 1/3 frames with Columbus
Cleveland Guardians Transactions Anthony Gose Scott Barlow
Anthony Gose is clearly in this for the frequent flyer miles
Jake Bauers and Cavan Biggio and their wives all vacation together during the off-season
Diego Castillo the infielder sure racked up those miles last offseason
What is the record for most times DFA by one team in a season
If you are interested in just the amount of times one player has been DFAed regardless of team last season Nick Solak got DFAed 5 times by 5 different teams: Reds
I don’t know the record but I imagine it is greater than 5
In terms of one player getting DFAed by the same team over and over again last season Devin Smeltzer got DFAed by the Marlins 4 times
What is remarkable about Gose is how quickly it has happened
Normally this happens across the entire season but Gose was first selected in August and has already been DFAed 4 times
I wonder if being in a pennant race was overwhelming him
I don’t think he was ever as good as he appeared to be
Most times when he entered a game this year he made it an adventure
He’s like a running back who nets 30 yards on 16 carries – most of his energy is spent running east to west
Do they bother to even send Gose to Columbus
I feel like they should just keep him in Cleveland
understanding and patience by Anthony Gose.
If Gose had declined his outright and become a free agent
I don’t think he’d be eligible for a playoff roster since he *technically* would have joined the organization after September 1
I’m assuming that’s why he accepted the outright and didn’t elect free agency this time around
but that’s at least how I’m interpreting the rule
I’m sure he’s okay with doing it this way because he’s still getting major league service time for the days he’s in DFA limbo

Lukas Märtens and Isabel Gose will head to short-course worlds in Budapest next month to conclude a year in which they won Olympic gold and bronze respectively
The pair are part of a 19-strong Germany team
for the meet which runs from 10-15 December at the Duna Arena
Märtens became the first German man to win Olympic gold in the pool since 1988 when he claimed the 400 free in Paris

August 30: Cleveland announced Friday that Gose cleared waivers and again elected free agency in lieu of an outright assignment
whose contract has been selected from Triple-A Columbus
Sabrowski is now in line to make his major league debut the first time he takes the mound for Cleveland
pitched two innings in last night’s loss to the Royals
allowing a run four hits with one strikeout
The outfielder-turned-reliever has pitched 3 1/3 big league frames this season and allowed three runs
He’s spent the bulk of the season pitching for Cleveland’s Triple-A affiliate in Columbus
where he’s logged 39 innings with a solid 3.46 ERA
a huge 32.9% strikeout rate and a problematic 15% walk rate
The 2024 season is Gose’s first year back from a Tommy John procedure that wiped out his entire 2023 campaign
A former second-round pick who ranked as one of the top prospects in the game during his days as a center fielder
he’s still looking to establish himself as a viable big league option in the bullpen
Gose has pitched 31 innings in the majors since making the switch to the mound and recorded a 4.35 ERA with big strikeout numbers (29.5%) and also big walk issues (12.9%)
A two-way star in high school who had some draft interest as a pitcher
Gose was brandishing a fastball that averaged 99.3 mph when he made his mound debut in 2021
He’s since undergone elbow surgery and seen that average heater dip to 95.2 mph — still a well above-average mark (particularly for a lefty)
but not the same type of overpowering offering it was a few years back
Gose is still piling up strikeouts in Triple-A
but the command of his fastball/slider combination is a work in progress
Gose will once again head to the waiver wire now that he’s been designated for assignment
He has the right to reject an outright in favor of free agency
but at this point of the season there’s a good chance he’d just re-sign with Cleveland and head back to Columbus anyhow
230-pound southpaw was a 14th-round pick by the Padres in 2018 who came to the Guardians organization by way of the Rule 5 Draft’s minor league phase in 2021
he’s only pitched in parts of three professional seasons
thanks to the canceled 2020 minor league campaign and a pair of Tommy John surgeries that both cost him at least a full season
He has just 99 1/3 professional innings under his belt at this point
Sabrowski has been impressive with the Guardians since returning from his most recent elbow surgery
he’s posted huge strikeout numbers but also bloated walk rates
His 2023 season saw Sabrowski log 21 2/3 frames with a 2.49 ERA in Double-A
He punched out 30.4% of his opponents but also walked 19.6% of the batters he faced
Sabrowski opened the 2024 season back at Double-A and notched a pristine 0.77 ERA in 11 2/3 innings there
fanning a comical 54.2% of his opponents against a vastly improved 4.2% walk rate
he’s logged a 4.38 ERA in 37 innings while recording a 31.2% strikeout rate against a once-again troublesome 17.6% walk rate
He’ll need to improve that command in order to find sustained success in the majors
but there’s little doubting Sabrowski’s ability to miss bats in droves
he gives Cleveland skipper Stephen Vogt a fresh arm as the Guards look to fend off a surging Royals club in the AL Central
with the Twins only 2.5 games behind as well
Cleveland Guardians Transactions Anthony Gose Erik Sabrowski
What’s the world record for DFA’s in a month
MLB is going to have to change some of these roster rules
this is too many transactions with one guy
“Too many transactions with one guy”..Just tell us outright that you do not understand the myriad
obscure union rules that the MLBPA agreed to
I assume Max Scherzer and Scott Boras felt the rules were fair when they signed off on them
I assume he wasn’t given extra option years after converting to a pitcher
Still impressive to make the majors in a short time as a full time pitcher
They don’t grant extra option years for that
only if an option year was lost due to a long-term injury
Bro getting jerked around more than a chicken in a Jamaican restaurant
I would be be looking for ANY other team except Cleveland to sign with
Isn’t there some Mexican league teams he can sign with???
Granted he chooses to stay with them but damn let the dude get in a few games games
I realize you guys are grasping at anything because Bobby and Royals but DAMN
He gets DFA’d the other 29 teams have a chance to claim him
Gose has the right to reject an outright assignment which he did the last time
Again 29 other teams have the ability to sign him
They pass and he returns to the Guardians organization
When there is a need for a fresh arm out of the minors the Guardians select him and pay him a major league salary for a day or two
Which none of the other 29 teams are willing to do
If Gose had options the Guardians would merely option him and MLBTRADERUMORS wouldn’t report it
But since he is out of options the Guardians have to DFA him and expose him to waivers
As a matter of fact they are the only team giving him a chance
Maybe he clears waivers rejects his assignment and gets signed by another team
But most likely he stays with Cleveland- the team that keeps giving him opportunities
“Treated this dude like garbage”..I guess you don’t understand the finer points of MLB’s rules
Maybe if you understood the rules are union negotiated you’d put the blame where it really belongs
Tony Clark and the other leaders(Max Scherzer)of MLBPA are currently preoccupied with making sure the top 1% of players(like Verlander/Soto/Scherzer)get new $40M/yr deals
Who really cares about the other 99% of no-name players
Certainly not Scott Boras or Tony Clark of MLBPA
Owners might the difference between are and our ….but hey maybe not some don’t seems too smart (John Fisher)
you have no choice but to put up with whatever for another shot to play in the majors
It’s likely that Gose’s contract pays him enough that other teams are unwilling to claim him
He also must be kept in the majors or he can elect FA
wherein he would probably re-sign with CLE
Cleveland signed him to a MiLB deal for 2023
even though he had just undergone TJS and it was certain he wouldn’t pitch at all that season
So he worked with their medical and pitching staff through the entire year to rehab
Hard to say the club hasn’t treated him well
Being a fringe major leaguer is tough but Gose is looking for any shot he can get
he was free to sign with any organization and that grown man decided Cleveland was the best fit for him
I thought the app was broken and sending multiple notifications
What Gose around, comes around and then gets sent down
One more callup/DFA and Gose will pull ahead of David Buchanan and Michael Tonkin in the 2024 MLB AAAA Player of the Year race
Gose is looking at a statue being erected at the halfway point between Cleveland and Columbus of him with a combo Guardians/Clippers uni
Pretty sure they did that for Drew Hutchison a couple years ago between Detroit and Toledo
Couldn’t be any worse than the garbage they’ve been sending out day after day
You see the talent this team has as they quickly fade into oblivion
Maybe just pin this post for the rest of the season
I guarantee you the Guardians are being transparent with Anthony
obviously if he had been lights out he could have made a stronger case for staying
Clearly the Guardians are iffy on him despite solid MILB pitching numbers
One season the Yankees DFA’d pitcher Ryan Weber like 16 times
lol at you dudes crying about a guy getting paid to play a game
He had his opportunities as an outfielder
Time to trade in the cleats for a pair of work boots
Give the teenagers the same opportunity that he once had
recalled…etc….BS it’s ridiculous
Monday he’ll sign a minor league deal with Cleveland
What I don’t get is why nobody has ever used him as a pinch runner/BP arm
seems like a good way to use a final roster spot teams didn’t have a few years ago
Patiently awaiting a resolution to this dramatic chapter of Gose’ career
Wait… let me guess… The Guardians sign him to a minor deal
By Darragh McDonald | August 27
The club already had a 40-man vacancy and won’t need to make a corresponding move in that regard
has been on and off the Cleveland roster all year
This is the third time his contract has been selected
the two previous stints resulted in him being designated for assignment fairly quickly
The first instance resulted in him accepting an outright assignment
he elected free agency but quickly re-signed on a fresh minor league pact
control has been an issue but he has racked up some tantalizing strikeout numbers
But he also gave out walks at a 15.2% clip
He required Tommy John surgery at the end of that year
which led to him missing the entire 2023 season
The Guards signed him to a two-year minor league pact
which covered that lost year as well as the current campaign
he has managed to throw 39 Triple-A innings this year with a 3.46 ERA
The 15% walk rate is still high but he’s also still getting the Ks
they can add one extra bullpen arm to a relief mix that is fairly taxed after yesterday’s double-header
Given the way they’ve treated Gose this year
it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is designated for assignment again once the club needs another fresh bullpen arm or a fifth starter
Cleveland Guardians Transactions Anthony Gose Logan Allen (b. 1998)
This guy seems to be going through Cleveland’s revolving door lol…
He comes and he Gose… You had the opportunity my guy
Guardians are awfully fickle about Gose… Poor guy
It’s tough but that’s the life of a fringe major leaguer
It’s also worth noting that Cleveland signed him to a minor league contract for 2023
even though he had just undergone TJS and would miss the entire season rehabbing
Wasn’t there someone on the Tigers last year who got designated multiple times as effectively their 7th starter
We all have that b*** that keeps coming back
Gose is looking for any opportunity he can get to pitch in the majors
He is definitely riding the carousel between Columbus and Cleveland.
but that’s better than just being in Columbus
He had an opportunity to sign with any team just a few days ago and he felt the best fit was staying with the Guardians organization
I’d love to see him have some sustained success in the majors after the crazy journey he’s had
What’s it like shuttling between Cleveland and Columbus
About 90% of the Cleveland roster should find out
No right pitching on a big league roster unless he’s the BP coach
What is Michael Martinez to Tito as Gose is to Vogt??
Gose was in the Cleveland org for 5 years under Tito
“We all have that b*** that keeps coming back
Love the high quality baseball comments here at MLBTR
Burn out the pitchers during the season so they have sore arms for the playoffs
It’s better to get to the playoffs by any means and take your chances than to miss the playoffs with rested arms
Would the manager have been more respected if he had rested his guys more & missed the W.S?)

who has been recalled from Triple-A Columbus
It’s the fourth DFA of the past month for the out-of-options Gose
who has fully embraced the depth role in which the Guardians have placed him
so Cleveland has continually designated him for assignment and passed him through waivers
at which point Gose has either accepted an outright assignment or briefly elected free agency and near-immediately re-signed on a new minor league deal
Gose is clearly fine with the tumultuous and somewhat unconventional arrangement
as he’s getting frequent MLB service time and pay out of it and agreeing to return to the organization each time
not all of those situations featured such rapid-fire selections to the majors and immediate DFAs
but it’s conceptually the same scenario
Gose allowed two runs in an inning of work during his most recent brief stint with the Guards
He’s pitched in three games this season and yielded runs in all of them
combining for five runs on nine hits and a walk with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings
He’s posted better run-prevention numbers in Triple-A
logging a 3.27 earned run average with a hearty 32.8% strikeout rate against a more troubling 14.7% walk rate
The 2024 season is Gose’s first year back from a Tommy John procedure that wiped out his entire 2023 campaign
he’s still looking to establish himself as a viable big league option in the bullpen
Gose has pitched 32 innings in the majors since making the switch to the mound and recorded a 4.78 ERA with big strikeout numbers (29.7%) and also big walk issues (12.3%)
He’s since undergone elbow surgery and seen that average heater dip to 95.2 mph — still a well above-average mark (particularly for a lefty)
He’ll head back to waivers and likely clear quickly before returning to the Guardians
whether via outright assignment or again electing free agency and signing a new minor league pact while he awaits his next call to the majors
Cleveland Guardians Transactions Anthony Gose
The musical accompaniment for this article is Dionne Warwick’s “Deja Vu”
I think it would be nice to have the next CBA fix this carousel that FOs use to cycle through players
Maybe increase the option years on players or put into place a rule that a player added to the active roster must remain on it for at least 20 days except in cases of injury or trades (where the player is traded)
This “roster flexibility “ does nothing for the players involved
Gose gets major league pay every time he gets called up
Here’s the thing though: Gose could’ve accepted any of the DFA’s and gone outright to the minors
Why would Gose want a team team to have exclusive option rights on him
His dfa carousel has the same effect as an optionable player
he has the choice of staying or going or resigning
He already went through that as an outfielder when he still had options
“I think it would be nice to have the next CBA fix this carousel that FOs use to cycle through players
That so many teams are cycling through players is a sign that they need more players
Gose’s transition from CF to pitcher was all about perseverance
And now Gose shows the same perseverance throughout all the call-ups and DFAs
Cleveland has not won a World Series since 1948 and this will not be the year either
Outside of Jose Ramirez and Naylor their hitters are boring
Tell me who’s going to win the series this year then
Guardians have an excellent shot this season
Naylor brothers both have buzzers under their jersey’s too courtesy of Beltran
“this will not be the year either.”
you could say the same thing about literally EVERY team and still be right
which teams do you think have a chance to win
And what would it mean if a team you didn’t list were to win
I agree there should be a roster freeze to avoid these shenanigans
Have to be up for 15 days unless there’s an IL stint
this is a one game stand for us.” And the other is “no one else will pick me up…sure why not.”
The Mets keep racking up relievers on minor league deals
The Mets have added two more relievers to their roster
inking left-hander Anthony Gose and right-hander Luis Ortiz on minor league deals
Both deals include an invitation to spring training
though Ortiz is unlikely to appear in a game for the Mets in 2025 as he recovers from Tommy John Surgery
where he began switching over to a pitcher
He remained with Detroit until electing for free agency following the 2017 campaign
After a brief stint with the Rangers in 2018, the lefty joined the Guardians organization
Gose has posted a 4.78 ERA across 32 innings—all for Cleveland
He missed the entire 2023 season as he recovered from Tommy John Surgery
and only appeared in 4 1⁄3 innings in 2024
when he pitched 21 innings across 22 appearances and pitched to a 4.78 ERA
He posted a 1.04 ERA across 8 2⁄3 innings before being claimed by the Philadelphia Phillies after the season
He’s spent the last two years with Philadelphia
where he posted a 4.12 ERA in 19 2⁄3 innings
He only pitched 2⁄3 of an inning last year before suffering various injuries
and he was eventually shut down after having Tommy John Surgery
Gose and Ortiz join a list of potential bullpen options that includes the likes of Dylan Covey, Génesis Cabrera, Rico Garcia, and Chris Devenski, to name a few. The team has also added right-hander Oliver Ortega, who owns a 4.03 ERA in his career across 58 innings. Ortega most recently pitched in the big leagues for the Twins in 2023
David Stearns’ strategy for filling in the Mets’ pitching staff continues to revolve around signing low-risk
high-upside arms to fill out the roster rather than dip into the more expensive part of the free agent pool to sign more established pitchers
and the team will hope it pays similar dividends next year

The Guardians have re-signed left-hander Anthony Gose to a minor league deal, according to the transactions tracker on Gose’s player profile at MLB.com
meaning that Gose would be eligible to pitch for Cleveland in the postseason should the club choose to add him back to the 40-man roster
was once a second-round pick by the Phillies in the 2008 draft
He was a top-100 prospect as a hitter after making some noise as a two-way player during his prep days
but after struggling through five seasons in the majors with below average offensive results (he’s a .240/.309/.348 hitter for his career) the lefty decided to return to pitching
He resurfaced in the big leagues as a reliever in Cleveland back in 2021
impressing with a six-appearance cup of coffee that saw him strike out 37.5% of opponents and post a 1.35 ERA
he’s accumulated an additional 24 big league appearances with the Guardians
when he pitched to a lackluster 4.71 ERA with a 5.06 FIP in 21 frames
While he still struck out an impressive 30.4% of opponents during that stretch
Gose walked an untenable 15.2% of batters faced and allowed four homers in his limited body of work
minimizing the impact of the high-octane arsenal he offers
Gose’s attempted comeback as a pitcher was complicated further when he underwent Tommy John surgery that September
wiping out the entirety of his 2023 season
That will allow Gose to not only continue acting as a non-roster depth option for the Guardians’ bullpen down the stretch
but it also leaves the door open to Gose making the club’s postseason roster
for that to come to pass Gose would surely not only have to return to the big leagues before the regular season comes to an end but also flash results more in line with his strong minor league numbers than his brief stint in the majors this year
I feel like we’ve seen this story before
That could be the thinking as well come playoff time
Dude stole 70 bases in the minors two different seasons
@sascoach: Gose has never punch ran for Cleveland
They aren’t going to start in a pennant race or the playoffs
We too serve who stand and wait to be released and resigned to protect that roster spot hill
Love Grows ( where my Anthony Gose)… perfect walk up song
“I swear you guys release me 13 or 14 more times and I may not come back.”
Well it’s September so they don’t necessarily have to DFA him anymore lmao
Lefites who throw hard will always find work until they retire
No one will just let this guy pitch for an extended period of time
The white Sox can’t spare the innings
This situation reminds me of 2022 when the Tigers did the very same thing with Drew Hutchison
I lost track of the number of times they called him up for a start
then re-signed him to a minors deal a day or two later
and the cycle played out over and over again
I look at his stat line as an OF as a sign of how much has changed
That’s probably an average player today with a solid hold on a roster spot
Add in his speed and defense and he would be a Kevin Pillar type player
His defense was nowhere nesr as good as Pillar’s

TODAY: Gose cleared waivers, as per his MLB.com profile page
and chose to become a free agent rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Columbus
This is the second time that Gose has been quickly designated for assignment after being added to Cleveland’s roster
The first stint led to one appearance but he didn’t get sent to the mound at all in the second stint
He is out of options and therefore can’t be sent to the minors unless he’s removed from the 40-man roster entirely and passed through waivers
The converted outfielder underwent Tommy John surgery in September of 2022
He re-signed with them on a two-year minor league deal
covering his rehab from that procedure and planned return to the mound this year
His results both before and after the surgery have featured a lot of strikeouts but also a lot of walks
the Guardians will have no choice but to place Gose on waivers again
Players with at least three years of service time or a previous outright have the right to reject outright assignments and elect free agency
he passed through waivers unclaimed and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Columbus
so perhaps that sequence of events will take place again in the coming days
Cleveland Guardians Transactions Anthony Gose Joey Cantillo
Guess the Mariners “Gose” is cooked
Guardians got lucky nobody claimed him last time
but I have to think he won’t make it through this go round
I agree with Colin kaep on how sports treats “players”
cutthroat business that pays the top 10% of players salaries that even multi-millionaires are in awe of
I don’t care for the endless transactions
but I’d suggest that in a case like this Gose is blocking a deserving pitcher that’s worked his buns off to get a chance…and I’d suggest a guy like you would be crappin’ about that if you knew about it
I once heard Terry Francona say that any person that wants to become a professional “player” knows that they’re getting into
Apparently “Colin kaep” never had to work at a fast food restaurant for minimum wage
Fast food workers dont get moved to a restaurant in another city without their approval
I’m playing baseball for a living getting a guaranteed 700,000 a year in the bigs
free practically everything and now I get traded to another team
“Without their approval”…Millionaire athletes are just another part of America’s out of touch
I’m saving my sympathies for little old ladies
children living in poverty and disabled military veterans thank you very much
Why would a fringe mlb’er like Gose want his options on where he plays reduced
What if another team was willing to give him a 26 man slot
I kinda feel like there should be an additional roster spot or two on the active roster
but also put a limit on how many different players can be on the active roster over the course of the year
55 would be a backup for every Opening Day major leaguer plus 3 more
although a few of those were September COVID-related call-ups.)
Putting a limit of 55 for the season would stop the whole disposable player trend
It wouldn’t change that trend because players would still have the right to refuse assignments (for those who qualify)
You would have to take those rights away in order to get the effect you’re describing
Keep it at 40 but allow teams to carry an unlimited number of players over 40 years old
I start to feel badly for him then I remember he gets one day’s (or however many) worth of league minimum salary
I would take that all day every day and twice on Tuesdays
It’d be great to hear his unfiltered thoughts
I think he understands that teams are not picking up on waivers so
for a few days on major league payroll and a spot on the Columbus aaa roster when he clears
the bounce is still better than independent league ball or playing catch with a banished pitcher on a mexico league team
At about $4400/game plus meal money if traveling
even when taxes and agent fees every day he’s up will pay a lot of expenses
Anthony signed a 2 year 2m contract after undergoing t.j
which pays him 1m a year if he makes it back to the majors
I had the pleasure of having Anthony on my 2004 Heartwell pony league all star team and I can say congratulations to him for all the hard work he has put in to get back to the majors for the 3rd time
I feel as if I have heard this name for decades

The left-handed relief pitcher has taken the mound in 31 MLB contests with the Cleveland Guardians over the past four seasons
despite starting his professional career as an outfielder
He entered free agency this fall after posting a 10.38 ERA
Gose made four appearances with Toros del Este in the Dominican Winter League earlier this offseason
but he is now playing for Team USA in the Premier12 tournament in Japan
the 34-year-old as given up one hit without allowing a walk or a run
According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi
Gose is open to signing with a team from either Nippon Professional Baseball or the Korean Baseball Organization
LHP Anthony Gose, a free agent, hit 96 mph with his fastball during a perfect inning at the @Premier12. Two strikeouts, including one on a tight 85-mph slider.Gose is open to an NPB or KBO contract, in addition to @MLB options. @MLBNetwork @WBSC
Gose got his start with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008
before he got traded to the Toronto Blue Jays at the 2010 deadline
2 prospect in Toronto's farm system and the No
The then-outfielder made his big league debut that year
and he proceeded to see action in 202 games over the next three seasons
Toronto traded Gose to the Detroit Tigers after the 2014 season
becoming their primary center fielder in 2015
a .688 OPS and a 0.8 WAR in 140 games that year
but that was where his career as a position player peaked
then got sent down to the minors and never logged another MLB at-bat
While the Tigers gave up on the experiment one year in
the Texas Rangers were the next franchise to take a flier on Gose
and he proceeded to post a 2.48 ERA between High-A and Double-A
He pitched in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic in place of the COVID-canceled 2020 minor league season
The southpaw gave up just one earned run in 6.2 innings for the Guardians down the stretch
which led to him making the Opening Day roster in 2022
Tommy John surgery cut Gose's season short
He went 5-4 with a 3.22 ERA upon his return to Triple-A in 2024
but that success didn't translate to his limited time coming out of Cleveland's bullpen at the MLB level
Gose has been showing out in Japan this month
With a 96 mile-per-hour fastball and 85 mile-per-hour slider in his repertoire
some professional team will surely come calling
Now it's just a matter of where Gose gets his next shot

Despite it being so close to the swell of the holiday season
there were some minor pitching moves yesterday
Anthony Gose has officially had enough of the I-71 corridor and will be heading to the Mets minor league system next year
Gose spent a comical amount of time bouncing between the AAA affiliate Columbus Clippers and Cleveland in the 2024 season
The center fielder turned LHP was selected
and outrighted to Columbus a total of four times between August 6th and the end of the regular season
Anthony Gose was an established member of the bullpen before undergoing Tommy John surgery at the end of 2022
causing him to miss all of the 2023 season
Cleveland signed him to a two year deal in 2022
covering his rehab year and the 2024 season
could not keep up with the youngsters dominating in the Cleveland bullpen and did not return to pre-surgery form
Gose ended the season with a 10.38 ERA in 4.1 IP across 3 games and elected free agency
In a move that surprised very few Cleveland Guardians fans

was selected to the club’s roster just three days ago
which was in the first game of Cleveland’s doubleheader against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday
striking out one but also allowing two earned runs thanks to a walk and a home run
Not much can be gleaned from such a small sample size
but Gose was likely not a big part of the club’s long-term plans
that’s mostly due to his circuitous route to being a big league pitcher
Gose was an outfielder at the big league level from 2012 to 2016 but never hit much and eventually tried a move to the mound
he succeeded in this late-career conversion
tossing 27 2/3 innings for the Guards over the 2021 and 2022 seasons with a 3.90 ERA
Tommy John surgery in September of 2022 put the feel-good story on ice
He was non-tendered by Cleveland at the end of that season and re-signed on a two-year minor league deal to cover his recovery period
he showed that he still has some strikeout stuff
His fastball averaged 99.3 miles per hour in 2021 and was at 97 in 2022
Though Gose has a nice story and the Guards have stuck by him for a while
he’ll turn 34 years old tomorrow and still has some wildness
Cleveland has the best bullpen in the majors this year
with their collective 2.68 ERA being far ahead of second-place Atlanta’s 3.20
They’re also in a tight playoff race right now
just 2.5 games ahead of the Twins in the Central and only 3.5 clear of the Royals
so taking on a bit of a project like Gose maybe isn’t in the cards
the club will have to put him on waivers in the coming days
Perhaps some other club will be enticed by his strikeouts and put in a claim
hoping that more reps as he distances himself from the surgery will help him harness his command
he has over three years of service time and would pass the four-year mark if he stays in the majors for the rest of the year
He’s out of options but could be controlled via arbitration for two seasons beyond this one
he will have the right to reject an outright assignment in favor of free agency
doing so would mean forfeiting whatever money he’s still owed on his deal
but it’s likely a minimal amount since it was a minor league pact
Cleveland Guardians Transactions Alex Cobb Anthony Gose
Prospect hitter turned into a pitcher now wondering if there is another chapter in his baseball career
Get the corn on the Cobb cause the goose is cooked
That’s just the way it Gose sometimes
He was having an incredible year at AAA before he finally got called up this week
He’ll be pitching for somebody else by Sunday
I hope he does catch on with someone else this year
The Cleveland bullpen has been tough to crack this year
Guys like like Gose and Banda did really well at AAA.
there just wasn’t a clear spot for them with the big club
Banda is now with LA and has solid numbers
They are pretty much chosing Pedro Avila over guys like Banda/Gose.
Avila can give you multiple innings and has a lot of club control left
so they have the option to keep him around
What’s good for the Gose is good for the gander
And yet Gavin Williams is still on the roster?
You suggest they DFA Gavin Williams in favor of Anthony Gose?.
All 29 other teams would claim Gavin Williams
I am glad you are not operating the Guardians
By Steve Adams | August 6
Gose never did establish himself as the type of top-of-the-order speedster many felt he could become — though certainly not for lack of opportunity
In 1252 plate appearances between the Blue Jays and Tigers
he batted just .240/.309/.348 with a 28.2% strikeout rate
After years of struggles in the batter’s box
Gose — a two-way star in high school who also drew draft attention as a pitcher — moved to the mound in 2017
he’d become a full-time pitcher in the Rangers’ minor league ranks
and he landed with Cleveland on a minor league pact heading into the 2019 season
He spent several years working with the Guards’ highly regarded pitching development program
honing his mound skills and making it back to the big leagues in 2021
this time as a reliever brandishing a sizzling triple-digit heater
Gose pitched 27 2/3 innings with a 3.90 ERA
but Gose averaged 97.6 mph on his four-seamer
frequently topped 100mph and posted a tantalizing 15.1% swinging-strike rate in his new role
he’s also become acclimated with one of the most grueling aspects of life as a pitcher: rehabbing from Tommy John surgery
and inked a two-year minor league contract to return to the Guardians that winter
he was a 2019 seventh-rounder who pitched his way up the organization’s prospect rankings and made his way to the big leagues in 2022
While he was never touted as one of the best pitching prospects in the sport
22 within Cleveland’s system as recently as last year
the results in the majors haven’t been there for Curry
He’s pitched 129 MLB frames and been tagged for a 4.53 ERA overall — including an ugly 5.84 mark in 24 2/3 innings this season
He’s displayed good command (7.3% walk rate) but struggled to miss bats (15.2% strikeout rate) against more advanced hitters
which was part of the concern with how he’d fare in the big leagues
Curry’s fastball generally sits 92-93 mph
and opponents have feasted on his curveball (.321/.355/.607)
He’s also struggled in Triple-A (5.59 ERA in parts of two seasons) but posted strong run-prevention and K-BB numbers up through the Double-A level
the Guardians have no choice but to place Curry on waivers or release him
He’s in the second of three minor league option years
so a club in need of some optionable depth on the starting staff or in a long relief role could place a claim and hope that a change of scenery brings out a new gear
few organizations have better track records of optimizing pitcher performance than Cleveland
so perhaps it’s not reasonable to expect another team to unlock a new tier of performance
But there’s also little to no cost in rolling the dice
particularly for one of the many deadline sellers that saw several spots on the 40-man roster open up when trading veterans for young prospects
Cleveland Guardians Transactions Anthony Gose Logan Allen (b. 1998) Xzavion Curry
he isn’t exactly a highly regarded arm being a minor league portion Rule 5 puck
I’m also curious if the Indians would have an interest in using him in very limited offensive roles
so I am wondering if there could a chance here and there to PH him against righties
Hedges numbers against righties this year are almost non-existent
And could he PR if was definitely not pitching that day
And “stereotype” still isn’t the word you are looking
just horrible how they want to treat everyone fair and equal in the way they’d want to be treated
Way too many woke people is what’s ruining this country
Cleveland is one of the few organizations that consistently develops pitchers so I’m sure Logan Allen will turn out alright eventually
Damn if he can throw 100 I wonder what highlight throws he made in center field when he was younger
Remember that he not only fizzled out as a CF
but at one point while with the Tigers he got demoted from AAA to AA for flipping out at then-Toledo Mud Hen manager Lloyd McClendon
I believe his switch to pitching started the following season after leaving the Tigers
Allen is linked instead of Guards’ Logan T
Logan Allen the elder has also pitched for CLE
the Guards have a great pitching development group
but sometimes getting moved to a new team can get a players attention and improve their listening skills
Sometimes its just hearing a different voice that makes all the difference
Picture the conversation when choosing the name:
Gose seems like he should be way older than 33
Xzavion should think about ditching or reshaping the curveball
He’s got overachiever written all over him
I wonder if the plan is to see if he can stick with the club for the rest of the year or if he is just going to be hanging around a few days
I suppose that means Cobb or Boyd will be ready soon
Not really a star in the big leagues like at other levels yet he had a bad atitude at the time
Hopefully he has learned and can stick in the big leagues.
