A series based on diplomatic documents declassified by Japan’s Foreign Ministry Here is a collection of first-hand accounts by “hibakusha” atomic bomb survivors chefs and others involved in the field of food introduce their special recipes intertwined with their paths in life A series about Japanese-Americans and their memories of World War II In-house News and Messages No reproduction or republication without written permission Please help us improve PreventionWeb by taking this brief survey Your input will allow us to better serve the needs of the DRR community See the survey located in the central part of Osaka Prefecture is a relatively small city with approximately 75,000 inhabitants The city was once famous for its blanket industries but now most companies have moved their factories overseas 90% of Japanese blankets were produced in Izumiotsu The former blanket factories have now been turned into apartment buildings which have brought more residents from outside of the city The location of the city is between Kansai International Airport and the city centre of Osaka The residents can easily commute to Osaka’s city centre from Izumiotsu but now it is a quay that serves as an important port for the Kansai region it is possible to take a huge ferry boat to Kyushu Island The sea brings a nice view to the residents of Izumiotsu The central and local governments have revisited the tsunami prediction and have also recalculated damage from the tsunami after the 2011 triple disaster The earthquake prediction indicated that the worst-case scenario would result in more than 2,000 deaths due to the tsunami the prediction also indicated that if the people are prepared for the tsunami This means that there would be enough time for an evacuation between the predicted earthquake and the tsunami Quick evacuation is essential for the residents to avoid deaths To disseminate this important information to the residents of Izumiotsu city the school pupils of Hama elementary school decided to promote tsunami/disaster education in 2013 the 5th-grade pupils (10-11 years old) published Tsunami DRR newspaper conducted mock drills to raise awareness amongst the residents and developed a tsunami Augmented Reality (AR) to indicate tsunami risk the pupils found that though demonstrating AR is helpful to show the tsunami risk dissemination of the application is not simple Hideyuki Shiroshita and the school pupils (currently 6th grade) decided to create projection mapping this year so that many people can watch the work at once The projection mapping of tsunami risk is a joint project of the faculties of Societal Safety Sciences and Informatics of Kansai University. The pupils’ projection work was displayed outside of a building on the 3rd of December 2021 and can be watched on YouTube The projection mapping has been conducive to the current COVID-19 restrictions of gathering people inside a building More than 200 people watched the projection work in open-air including the mayor and the leader of the Disaster Risk Reduction of Izumiotsu city After the display of the projection mapping the pupils conducted a questionnaire survey The findings of this survey revealed that more than 90% of the respondents learned about the tsunami risk and the importance of evacuation to reduce avoidable deaths from a tsunami Please note: Content is displayed as last posted by a PreventionWeb community member or editor. to hospital as the country braces for a possible second wave of infections including members of the 5th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters in Kobe local medical personnel and crew of the ferry amid rising concern over a resurgence of the pandemic in the country "It is a rare and valuable opportunity to monitor how a passenger is transferred from an actual passenger boat We want to continue boosting our cooperation with the private sector," said Osamu Sakata who heads the rescue division of the regional headquarters Travel scheme fiasco may see gov't paying Tokyoites' cancellation fees Japan 1st-half exports fall 15%, sharpest drop in decade due to virus Japan gov't eyes amendment of special law against coronavirus The drill was conducted on the assumption that a man in his 70s developed symptoms such as fever and difficulty breathing while aboard the 15,897-ton ferry Hibiki sailing through Osaka Bay off the city of Izumiotsu After coast guard headquarters received an emergency call a doctor and coast guard officers wearing protective gear conducted a medical examination on the patient in an isolated cabin asking him whether he had taste disorders and other possible COVID-19 symptoms The coast guard officers then carried the patient on a stretcher to a patrol ship moored next to the ferry which took him to a nearby port where an emergency rescue team awaited When a cluster of infections occurred aboard the Diamond Princess the cruise ship that was quarantined in Yokohama near Tokyo in February the Japan Coast Guard brought 10 infected patients ashore 712 people from the ship were found to be infected To have the latest news and stories delivered to your inbox Simply enter your email address below and an email will be sent through which to has to be in order and those that live there are expected to follow the city’s guidelines and rules no matter how foolish they are Tokyo is also a place where cleanliness is held to such high regards that they actually pay people to walk around and tell smokers to not smoke outside designated smoking areas and you can sense the people of this city in the Kansai region of Japan really don’t care to be bound by rules it’s also said that people from Osaka are friendlier than those from Tokyo when I recently ended up in Osaka for the first time for a photoshoot I spotted a Nissan Silvia S13 waiting at a stoplight It clearly had seen better days; the front bumper was barely hanging on and it had mismatched door colors there were two things that piqued my curiosity The first was that the front license plate was missing and the rear one was bent in such a way that it was difficult to be read struck up a conversation and asked if they knew where I could find some kind of meet going on the driver pulled out her phone and started reaching out to her friends asking where we could go I was in a convoy of six cars heading to the Izumiotsu Parking Area Leading the convoy was this Suzuki Cappuccino; its turbocharged three-cylinder 657cc engine just meets the Kei car displacement limit which makes it much more affordable to own in Japan compared to a full-size vehicle Izumiotsu PA is like the Osaka version of Daikokufuto PA and just like Yokohama’s world famous car hangout spot there was a wide variety of cars present in the little parking deck My childhood obsession for Lamborghinis had me rushing to this Huracan first which includes the front spoiler and canards matched with the Pokal GRB02 3-piece forged wheels make for an excellent combination you could sense a strong presence of European cars Euro cars enjoy a higher status compared to their Japanese counterparts Combining that with an absolute love of vans it would only make sense to have a slammed Volkswagen Touran in Japan It’s not every night you see a Porsche Boxster modified in this way either Not only was this W124 Mercedes-Benz sitting low it came with a little surprise in the trunk barely takes up any space in the massive trunk I thought I had covered all the interesting European cars that showed up to the meet and was ready to move on to some of the Japanese offerings but then something really unexpected rolled in… If you’re familiar with the Japanese manga Lupin the Third then you’ll know that a little yellow Fiat plays a starring role as an escape vehicle The owner of this particular 500 Nuova is a huge fan of the manga and wanted to have a little piece of the famous series in his life he insisted I sat in the car so he could take a picture Let’s just say that my head poked out of the sunroof I’ll never complain about being in a small Kei car again The interior has been completely restored and is maintained to an immaculate level And check out what’s hanging from the rear-view mirror the original 2-cylinder 479cc mated to a 4-speed manual transmission Driving around in the Nuova can only be described as an experience It makes me wonder how Lupin and his gang all fit in their one I spotted this EG Civic parked to the side with its owner near by and is powered by a B18 engine for some extra performance on the circuit The battle scars tell of more than just track experiences though I began to realize there were also a lot of Nissans present too I thought this line-up of two 180SXs and a Silvia was pretty cool There’s a lot going on with this car; the front end is from a 180SX… One of the original platforms for VIP bippu cars is the Nissan Y32 SSR Formula Mesh wheels and plenty of oni camber – perfect A view from behind shows just how aggressive the stance is with these Y32s It wouldn’t be Japan if Godzilla didn’t make an appearance The R33 chassis doesn’t get as much love as it deserves but I don’t think you can argue with this look A group of RX-8s took up an entire row at the meet it was hard to miss this bright pink example wearing the same aero upgrades By my favorite from the group was the NRF demo machine the thing that caught my eye was the tail lights These custom LED lights were made in-house at NRF and are a welcome improvement over the stockers I ended up riding around Osaka’s hotspots with my new friends until 4:00am and as they dropped me off and drove away into the morning I still couldn’t believe the friendliness that had been extended to me I now understand why the people of Osaka have such a friendly reputation Don’t get me wrong – people in Tokyo are incredibly friendly and I love living in Japan’s biggest city More stories from Japan on Speedhunters Sorry to be a bummer but most people know that the brown-ish silvia is called a Onevia What is the difference between the Onevia and a sileighty AaronPTorres Onevia = Silvia with a 180SX front end but why the Fiat 500 and the Civic have blank plate The comment above yours shows that not everyone knows exactly what they are muazyusof I'd assume that the owners requested it that way Spaghetti AEROHUNTER Don't forget there is a whole new generation of enthusiasts now who didn't grow up following these cars There is also parts of the world that didn't see the S13 and get to see it in all its face swapping glory Spaghetti it doesn't looks like it edited digitally muazyusof Spaghetti in the case of the civic because of the cops I'ma take a wild guess and say that he runs the kanjo loop. muazyusof Spaghetti i'm convinced it's edited digitally if you see dino's post in the past most of the cars have blanked plates Who drives around with a rotor and a housing in their boot On the topic of fiat 500's I discovered this at the weekend which might interest some. It's a Fiat Impala, and is a kit car made here in the South West of England based on the 500's chassis! It's super small and cute. Rad little rarity!https://www.instagram.com/p/BEjMp-BF4Ot/?taken-by=colouryum I live in Osaka and attend meets at the Izumi PA about once a month A few of cars in your photos are regular attendees As you said it's quite easy to arrange a mini meet at the drop of a hat What day of the week and what time do they mostly have the biggest meet I'm coming to Osaka for a month this summer and would love to check it out AEROHUNTER I call it a 240SX cos that's how we got them here I can agree with the people from Osaka being nicer than those from Tokyo I see it among my friends from Japan that come from those cities It's kind of like comparing people from LA to people from San Diego if you're someone who resides in Southern Cali  That's just how the 240sx coupe come stock in the US I don't see how they run that Demon camber I ran a good bit of negative camber on my Civic for a while and ran through two sets of tires in less than a year JeremieSunico So are the ones in LA considered the friendly ones or not ultra old school bridgestone wheels on the tifara demo car wtf PowA_Tequilaz skylinerl La seul vrai raison d'allez au Japon c'est ce quartier http://twitter.com/_Kaiizen/status/725329178850168832/photo/1 _Kaiizen skylinerl Ca me rappel sur scène dans F&F Tokyo Drift PowA_Tequilaz skylinerl la dernière madza de l'article elle est juste mashallah par contre PowA_Tequilaz skylinerl Mdr mec c'est Akihabara *_* rsrsrs muazyusof Spaghetti Yes 'Mr O' the owner of the Civic would indeed request 'Mosaic' the name they use when requesting the editing of plates for a number of reasons the first night I saw two guys and a woman fist fighting and the owner asked me to leave because I don't speak Japanese It actually isn't too hard if you're handy with Photoshop Dino has done it so many times that he's pretty good at it The more I learn about Osaka the more it sounds like a place I could get along with Tasos Papazachariou Sorry about the week late reply The one's from SD would be considered the friendly ones I'm not saying that just because I'm a native I've met people from LA and so far the ratio of snobby ones out ways the humble ones In SD I find people to be more laid back and humble about things regardless if I got to a more conservative demographic area in the county That's just from my film and business experience let alone car culture with the old style car that looks good on the road if you want to have  http://raksasapoker.com/ Does anyone know the hotspot for car meets in Osaka Speedhunters is an international collective of photographers writers and drivers with a shared passion for uncovering the world's most exciting car culture stories Please view the main text area of the page by skipping the main menu.
