One of the oldest castles in Japan, Maruoka Castle in Fukui prefecture is given a modern makeover with colourful projection mapping thanks to Japanese art collective Naked
The company has been involved in many digital art events at some of Japan’s most famous landmarks
Unesco World Heritage Site Nijo Castle in Kyoto
and Japan’s oldest hot spring Dogo Onsen in Ehime
For its Future Creation Project, Naked has launched the ‘Maruoka Castle x Naked Hikari Knot’ event
where the entire castle tower is lit up with mesmerising colourful visuals
which was once the castle’s inner moat
will also have an interactive projection show where the visuals will transform into a trippy kaleidoscope effect when you step on them
Entry into the Maruoka Castle grounds costs ¥450 (¥150 for children)
so there’s still plenty of time to visit
This spectacular projection mapping show comes on at Maruoka Castle twice a day at 8pm and 9pm while the one at Otenshuzen Park is scheduled between 7pm to 9pm.

Metrics details
This pilot study aimed to investigate the utility of texture and color enhancement imaging (TXI) with magnified endoscopy (ME) for the preoperative diagnosis of superficial nonampullary duodenal epithelial tumors (SNADETs)
ME with indigo carmine (ICME)—white-light imaging (WLI)
ICME-TXI compared to ME-NBI (narrow-band imaging) was scored (+ 2 to − 2 ME-NBI was set as score 0) by 3 experts
Scores + 2 and + 1 were defined as improved visibility
The intra-observer and interobserver agreement for improved visibility of surface structure (SS) was evaluated
and positive predictive value (PPV) for Vienna Classification (VCL) C4/5 associated with the preoperative diagnosis of ICME-TXI were analyzed
The SS visibility score of ICME-TXI was significantly higher than that of ME-NBI
The kappa coefficients of reliability for intra-observer and interobserver agreement for the SS visibility improvement with ICME-TXI were 0.96
All endoscopists preferred ICME-TXI for visualizing SS mostly for all lesions
and PPV (%) of ICME-TXI for VCL C4/5 were 80
ICME-TXI facilitates the visibility of the SS of SNADETs and may contribute to their preoperative diagnosis
suggesting that endoscopic diagnosis is at least comparable to biopsy
its utility with ME for SNADETs has not yet been clarified
this pilot study aimed to investigate the utility of TXI with ME for the preoperative diagnosis of SNADETs
This prospective study was conducted at Chiba University Hospital (Japan) between March and July 2021
Patients diagnosed with sporadic SNADETs were prospectively enrolled in this study before diagnostic endoscopy
all patients underwent endoscopic resection or an operation
This study was reviewed and approved by the institutional review board of Chiba University School of Medicine and was registered at the University Hospital Medical Information Network (UMIN000041436)
Informed consent was obtained from all participants
All methods were performed in accordance with the relevant guidelines and regulations
Endoscopic diagnosis with ICME-TXI was performed separated by each endoscopist
All the tissue samples were sent for histological analysis with standard hematoxylin and eosin stain and were evaluated by gastrointestinal pathologists
The pathological diagnosis was according to the VCL
The details of VCL C4/5 are as follows; high-grade adenoma (C4.1)
The intra-observer and interobserver agreements for the improved visibility of SS were evaluated
the first and second evaluations were spaced 6 months apart
the favored modality by the examiners for the evaluation of the SS and blood vessels was assessed
and positive predictive value (PPV) for VCL C4/5 associated with the preoperative diagnosis of ICME-TXI and preoperative biopsy were also investigated
There were no data regarding ICME-TXI for SNADETs. As this was a pilot study, 12 lesions were enrolled based on criteria from a previous report24
Baseline data were presented as mean ± standard deviation (SD)
The differences in visibility scores were analyzed using Friedman's test with Bonferroni correction
Intra-observer and interobserver agreement for the visibility improvement was assessed with Cohen’s Kappa analysis
The kappa coefficient of reliability was classified as follows: 0.0–0.2 (slight agreement)
and 0.81–1.0 (almost perfect or perfect agreement)
All statistical analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software version 26 (SPSS Inc.
P values < 0.05 were considered statistically significant
Representative cases of SNADETs for each modality
Superficial nonampullary duodenal epithelial tumors; ME-WLI
magnified endoscopy with white-light imaging
ME-NBI magnified endoscopy with narrow-band imaging
ME-TXI magnified endoscopy with texture and color enhancement imaging
The mean visibility scores (described mean ± SD) for each modality
The mean visibility score of ME-NBI was set as score 0
ME-WLI magnified endoscopy with white-light imaging
(a) Mean visibility score for surface structure
(b) Mean visibility score for blood vessels
all endoscopists preferred ICME-TXI mostly for all lesions
all endoscopists preferred ME-NBI mostly for all lesions
The kappa coefficients of reliability for intra-observer agreements for the visibility improvement for SS with ICME-TXI were 0.96
While those of interobserver agreement for the visibility improvement for SS with ICME-TXI were 0.70
Intra-observer agreements for SNADETs were “almost perfect or perfect agreement”
Interobserver agreements for SNADETs were “substantial agreement” or “almost perfect or perfect agreement.”
and PPV (%) for VCL C4/5 associated with a preoperative diagnosis of ICME-TXI (calculated for 36 lesions
Preoperative biopsy was performed in 9 of 12 lesions
and PPV (%) for VCL C4/5 in preoperative biopsy were 40.0
The sensitivity of preoperative diagnosis with ICME-TXI for SNADETs tended to be higher than with preoperative biopsy
Although this study did not analyze the mucin phenotype
it could be possible to distinguish mucus phenotype preoperatively by observing the SS with ICME-TXI
The sensitivity of preoperative diagnosis for ICME-TXI tended to be superior to that of biopsy in this study
and preoperative diagnosis may be made more efficiently
ME-NBI was still superior in vascular visibility to any other modality in this study
visibility scores for blood vessels of ME-TXI tended to be higher than ICME-WLI
those of ICME-TXI were significantly higher than with ICME-WLI
The outline of the blood vessel is emphasized by the texture enhancement of TXI and contrast with IC as well
so the blood vessels were easier to identify than with ICME-WLI
The diagnostic method used in this study does not include evaluating blood vessels
but TXI may be useful for diagnosis including assessing the vascular structure
it was a pilot study with a sample of only 12
the results of this study only suggested the potential of ICME-TXI in the preoperative diagnosis of SNADETs
The results of visibility score of surface structures for ICME-TXI and visibility score of blood vessels for ME-NBI that show significant differences compared to other modalities clearly were considered to be credible
visibility score for blood vessels of ICME-TXI was need to be analyzed with larger samples
the diagnostic method referred to in this study was originally for ME-NBI
A large prospective study using a specific method for TXI for the preoperative diagnosis of SNADETs is crucial for assessing the true value of ICME-TXI
ICME-TXI facilitates the visibility of the SS of SNADETs and may contribute to the preoperative diagnosis of SNADETs
The datasets generated and/or analyzed during the current study are not publicly available due to the protection of personal information

Chu-hi-cha is the name of a new type of tea discovered by a Japanese researcher at Kyoto University
It involves brewing the droppings of caterpillars that have feasted on various plants
Tsuyoshi Maruoka came up with the idea of caterpillar tea during graduate studies at Kyoto University’s Faculty of Agriculture
while researching the mysterious relationship between insects and plants
a senior brought 50 gypsy moth larvae into the lab and told Maruoka that they were a souvenir
He didn’t really know what to do with them at first
but he eventually decided to at least keep them alive until he could decide
so he picked some leaves from a nearby cherry tree and fed them to the caterpillars
When cleaning the droppings left by the critters
he noticed that they had a pleasantly fragrant smell and was almost instantly inspired to brew them into tea
“This is going to work!” Maruoka told himself
Not only did the dark color of the droppings give the tea a pleasant color
but the drink smelled like cherry blossoms and had an exquisite taste
This successful experiment inspired the researcher to explore this type of tea even further…
The Chu-hi-cha Tea project isn’t limited to the dung of gypsy moth caterpillars that feasted on cherry tree leaves
Tsuyoshi Maruoka has already experimented with about 40 different types of plants and 20 insects and larvae
But with hundreds of thousands of plants and insects around the world
Maruoka claims that “the aroma and taste of Chu-hi-cha change dramatically depending on the type of plant and insect that are crossed.” Raw plants have an astringent and bitter taste designed to discourage animals from consuming them
but some insects have evolved to neutralize this taste with the help of enzymes in their digestive system
the processed plants are no longer astringent or bitter and become surprisingly fragrant
Inspired by his discovery, Tsuyoshi Maruoka decided to create a commercial version, so he recently posted a crowdfunding campaign on the Japanese platform Camp-Fire
He already blew past his original goal of 1 million yen ($7,800)
the researcher is on track to surpass 2 million yen ($15,600) in pledged funds
Camp-Fire supporters will receive samples from the two currently available Chu-hi-cha varieties – “Sakura x Iraga” (based on cherry tree leaves) and “Kuri x Omizuao” (based on chestnut leaves)
people have been consuming tea made from the droppings of silkworms that feasted on tea leaves for hundreds of years
Modern studies have shown that the drink is a great source of bioactive flavonoids
Chu-hi-cha is the first commercial variety of tea made from caterpillar droppings
If you find the idea of brewing tea from caterpillar droppings repulsive, you should know that some of the world’s most expensive types of coffee are brewed from the droppings of birds and elephant dung

After Seagull Hiroshima opened the scoring with MATSUKAWA Azumi's goal from a set piece in the second minute
Fukui Maruoka's KATO Honoka soon cancelled the deficit
The Fukui side edged ahead with MADOIWA Hina's goal in the eighth minute
but Seagull Hiroshima got back in front again with goals in the ninth and 12th minutes
Fukui's YAMAZAKI Suzuna tallied two goals to give here side a 4-3 lead before entering half-time
Fukui Maruoka Ruck carried their momentum into the second half and scored additional goals to make it into their first final in two years
The other semi-final match finished in a dramatic fashion
It was Jumonji Junior High who dominated the early stage of the match as they scored three consecutive goals in the sixth minute to gain a comfortable lead
Lindoze Kirishima gradually picked up their pace and started to create chances with their long balls
Although Jumonji Junior High managed to keep a 5-3 lead at halftime
Kirishima got back on level terms in the 21st minute
Jumonji Junior High conceded an own goal induced by a long ball
With the match ending its regulation time with an even score
the outcome of the contest was left to penalty shootouts
where Lindoze Kirishima prevailed with a final score of 3-2 to advance into the final
The final match started off with both teams attacking the goal with great intensity as the score-line was already at 2-2 after just first five minutes of play
Fukui Maruoka Ruck drew opponents' errors with their aggressive defence and capitalised on the opportunities to take control of the match
Kato's first-half hattrick helped the Fukui side enter half-time with a three-goal lead
Lindoze Kirishima utilised many long balls to initiate their attack
but Fukui Maruoka Ruck showed great persistence to keep the Kagoshima side from scoring a goal

Fukui Maruoka Ruck clinched their fifth national championship
Coach (Fukui Maruoka Ruck)The players of our top team (in the women’s F
League) often took their time to practice with our U-15 players
When the top team’s young players had a trip to Thailand
KITAGAWA Kana and TAKAO Akari came out to watch our training session
This team consists players from the local area
but they are constantly learning by watching the top players from our organisation
Our team was mainly formed by second grade players
so we still have another year to work with and I am looking forward for next year
MADOIWA Hina (Fukui Maruoka Ruck)It still feels unreal that we won the championship
but this was made possible by our team striving for the same goal
but we all fought with Coach Tanaka’s words
when everybody gives their best for the team.” Including the final
I was able to enjoy myself throughout the tournament and I am just full of joy that I am forgetting how tired I was
This will be my last tournament at the junior high school category
so I hope the younger players will go out and defend our title next year
I will quit playing futsal and concentrate on playing football
Coach (HKSC Lindoze Kirishima)We weren’t expecting to make it this far in our first tournament appearance
our kids were already telling each other to enjoy the moment
I was only able to encourage my players when needed
but the players kept telling each other to keep playing and to enjoy the game
They have improved a lot during the match and showed great maturity
We started working on our futsal game during the prefectural qualifiers
and it has given us positive effects on our football game
We started showing quicker transitions and our first step got faster as well
There are many aspects that translated well into football
It was an honour to play against the top teams of both football and futsal
as we played against Jumonji Junior High and Fukui Maruoka Ruck
TAKAHASHI Manae (Jumonji Junior High School)We struggled to pick up our pace in the first match
We managed to take control of the match in the semi-finals
and when we scored four goals at the beginning
We have won matches in penalty shootouts at the Kanto qualifiers where our goalkeeper did a great job
so we were quite confident heading into the shootout
Although the result didn’t turnout the way we wanted
and we couldn’t meet our supporters’ expectations
we still managed to give our best as a team in the third graders’ final tournament
