The progression map below is meant to give an overview of the best approach based on the community's suggestions
A flowchart of the game made by /u/Ekurepu
Note that it is recommended that you progress the Purification Ending on your first playthrough, even if that is not the Ending you are going for, in order to gain all Prayer Beads and it is the easiest way to gain 100% with the least effort
If you are after the platinum and don't want to redo all steps, you will still have to play the game into New Game Plus, but you can do the 3 "good" endings by "Save Scumming"
This is not recommended but if you are short on time it is the most efficient way to unlock 3 trophies before going to NG+ for the Shura ending
This is the game's prologue and it acts as a tutorial for players to learn the basic game controls. At the start, you’ll have low health, but there's no immediate threat of combat. You can proceed forward, pick up the Ornamental Letter
and follow the on-screen instructions. You'll soon find yourself on a snowy path
Turn around to locate a broken section of the floor where the letter was dropped
and you'll be instructed to press Square to hug the wall
Walls that can be hugged have white scratch marks on them
use the directional L button to move along the edge
Press L towards the wall's edge to trigger a "Peek" view
allowing you to see ahead without exposing yourself
You must bypass these guards unnoticed since you don't have a sword. Listen in on their conversation about Sekiro’s lost will to live
as it's your first chance to Eavesdrop. Press the Left Thumbstick to crouch and move stealthily through the grass
following it to the underfloor of a nearby structure. Here
you can trigger another Eavesdrop by looking up at the broken floor and pressing down on the D-pad
The "Eavesdrop" icon will have a red tick mark after you’ve listened
Move to the other end of the underfloor and exit through more tall grass
Another Eavesdrop position will reveal soldiers discussing a broken portion of the tower
but the broken wall might be an entry point
You'll then get a tutorial on Ledge Hanging
then use the directional L thumbstick to move along it
Note that deflecting differs from blocking or parrying in the Souls series
Ahead, a gate with four guards can be bypassed by climbing onto the rooftops and taking one out by jumping down and pressing R1 when the lock-on indicator turns red. Next, you’ll encounter Mini-Boss Leader Shigenori Yamauchi
A Counter-Slash tutorial will guide you to deflect with L1 just as an attack lands
followed by pressing R1 to execute a counter
filling up his posture gauge will allow you to deliver a Deathblow
You'll also learn that Mini-Bosses require multiple Deathblows to defeat
indicated by red circular icons at the top left of the screen near their name. Defeat him by blocking and countering his attacks
you'll receive 1x Pellet and can move forward
The gate ahead cannot be opened from this side, so head right, where you’ll find a Fistful of Ash on the ground
useful for temporarily blinding enemies. A branch ahead allows you to jump and grab onto a ledge to continue
you can hug the wall on the left and shimmy across slowly
A "Wall Jump Ledge Hang" tutorial will inform you that pressing Square after a wall jump will allow you to hold onto a ledge
Look for scratched surfaces indicating climbable areas
and you'll have another chance to eavesdrop on guards discussing the passage beneath the moat and the security measures in place
This is your first encounter with a Straw-Hat enemy
and drop down to collect 1x Pellet before moving forward. This door is the location for your "Reed Whistle" to Kuro
Choose "Yes" to trigger a cutscene where Kuro thanks you for finding the gate and expresses regret that all he can do is run from the Fated Bloodline
who reflects on what to do after you escape
Asking about "This left arm, what did you do to me?" prompts an explanation of the Shinobi Prosthetic
which is more than just a replacement for your arm
It's specially designed to use Shinobi Tools
The Sculptor will fit these tools into the prosthetic for you
It seems the prosthetic originally belonged to the Sculptor
who is giving it to you because he no longer needs it
If you inquire about "What did you mean when you said they'll make use of the bloodline of the Divine Heir," the Sculptor will explain "The Dragon Heritage," a special bloodline that makes your master a target
He also mentions that other peculiar individuals are arriving at the temple and suggests you find one to the left of the gate
When you approach the bronze Buddha nearby
the Sculptor credits its creation to a "true" sculptor and explains that its purpose is to help face inner problems
she’ll request to see your face and ask about the white mark on it
She theorizes that it might be related to your connection with the Dragon Heritage or a symptom of it
which is locked until opened from the other side
the Hub of Sekiro's world provides several services that players can count on for their character advancement
This shortcut will close again during Ashina Castle’s first and second invasions
This is the first chance that you'll get to try out your Shinobi Prosthetic and Grappling Hook. As such
it incorporates many grapple points and players should be on the lookout for advantages of going high up
which reduces Vitality damage by about 30%
then further down towards the gate to stealth kill the patrolling soldier
This triggers a tutorial for "Acquiring Enemy Loot"
grapple onto a tree branch to approach the enemies ahead from higher ground
Make sure to REMEMBER THIS SPOT. Crouch and slowly make your way forward
then grapple onto the rooftop to set up a stealth deathblow for an easier fight
Now return to the spot you were instructed to remember
and look down. A deep fall leads to a cave with a Bundled Jizo Statue
a valuable item that refills your resurrection gauge
It’s best to move back and thin out the enemies through stealth
Enemies are not alerted by bodies left in plain sight
which provides Sen that cannot be lost upon death
Continue around the corner and upward to return to the main path
Return to the Outskirts Wall - Stairway Idol, defeat the Gamefowl again, then drop down to ground level and approach the area with a reddish hue and 1x Spirit Emblem
Interact with this "Recollection" to reveal a conversation between Kuro and Emma about the unfortunate fate of the Hirata clan
who tried to protect the Dragon's Heritage
After interacting with the Remnants, turn around and face the closed gate. Approaching it, you’ll encounter a former thief who has become a merchant. He claims to know you from "that night," which you can't remember. He offers to share information if you do business with him. This is Anayama the Peddler
with additional details available for higher amounts
who will say you can offer the item at the nearby Kind-Faced Buddha
Approach the Buddha and select "Pray" to be transported to Hirata Estate
The NPC will call you "Son of the Owl" and give you the option to ask what happened or what year it is
you'll learn it's the year of the Dragonspring Pilgrimage
As you descend, look to the right on the bridge to spot a swimming fish, a Treasure Carp. Defeating it will give you a valuable Treasure Carp Scale and 12XP
and dash forward as it notices you. Then
head to the opposite side of the bridge and around a rock to find another 1x Treasure Carp Scale
Defeat it to obtain another 1x Treasure Carp Scale
There are four Treasure Carps to slay in these waters
A marker on the bottom left of the screen will indicate this effect
Two enemies are demanding that the people inside surrender
you can hear a conversation from the houses where someone mentions that the thieves have brought along a Shinobi Hunter
You can also talk to a female NPC who will recognize you as the master's servant and ask you to save the Young Lord
giving you 2x Antidote Powder for the upcoming fight
A male voice ahead will also accuse you of being a traitor
suspecting your involvement due to the coincidental timing of the attack and your absence. There are three enemies ahead: one with a torch and two with shields
Defeat the torch enemy and run past the shielded ones
as you currently lack the Prosthetic Tool to break their guard
They may drop 1x Pellet. If you've returned to the Dilapidated Temple and fitted your Loaded Axe
Defeat the two enemies and prepare to fight against the Chained Ogre
The right path can be unlocked by heading towards the Headless
Now, focus on the bridge. Let a patrol pass by to stealth-kill it, then use a Ceramic Shard to lure the shielded enemies over. Once they're separated, you can defeat them easily, either through stealth or by engaging them one by one. Defeating the Taro Troop (Club) grants 74 XP
then deal with the nearby enemies as best you can
he might join the fight but could die in the process
If you go back to talk to Tengu of Ashina he'll reward you with Ashina Esoteric Text, which unlocks the Ashina Arts tree
He mentions that they have no specific rules but winning and that it will assist you in further "rat hunting". Now go to the Sculptor's Idol and unlock the first passive skills in Ashina Line if you have the skill points
which is the closed gate from the tutorial
next to the Ashina Reservoir Idol. After the idol
eavesdrop on a pair of enemies ahead discussing a shinobi sighting
remember that using shurikens works well against the dogs
Now grapple onto the rooftops and you'll spot 2x Taro Troop (Wooden Mallet)s ahead, and 1x Ashina Soldier (Matchlock Rifle) to your left. First
deal with the rifle-wielder by grappling onto the ledge near him
so defeat the enemy sounding the alarm and hide until the alert subsides
Inside the tower, interact with a Remnant of Kuro to hear him reflect on his powers. From outside, grapple onto the roof and circle around the tower to find 1x Bundled Jizo Statue. There’s also 1x Scrap Iron by a tree near the tower
Return to the area where you defeated the alarm enemy and look around the corner to find the spot where you first learned to wall hug and shimmy. Heading towards your initial spawn point, you'll encounter an NPC named Jinzaemon Kumano
He will leave if you engage with the swordsman nearby
You’ve now reached the Abandoned Dungeon (Bottomless Hole Idol)
you'll find a remnant where Kuro and Emma discuss Ashina's plan to use Rejuvenating Waters
which originate from the Dragon's Blood and grant immortality to those who consume them
and interact with a nearby scroll for additional lore
She will reveal that she works for Isshin Ashina
who does not intend to use the Divine Heir's blood and has tasked her with helping Kuro escape
He also directs you to the nearby incense burner
The scent of the Fountainhead is the key to reaching the divine realm
Go back to Kuro's Room and you'll find a letter from Kuro telling you to meet him in the library. You can talk to Emma and she will say that Genichiro took a Rejuvenating Sediment, which was originally researched by her master. You can now give her Gourd Seeds, and even give her a drink. Pick up 1x Gun Fort Shrine Key from the Library and then talk to Kuro:
you'll overhear enemies discussing a nearby miscreant. Grapple onto the rooftop ahead of them and position yourself to grapple to the Sunken Valley Clan (Cannon) for a stealth deathblow
and prepare to face a third spear-wielding enemy who will soon arrive
As you prepare to descend the stairs, you'll notice another cannon enemy and an Assassin inside the building with the broken roof. Drop down behind the tower with the cannon enemy and stealth kill an Ashina Soldier (Matchlock Rifle)
then head up to eliminate the cannon-bearer. Once you've taken care of the cannon enemy
you'll spot the ambush that was lying in wait near the staircase
then grapple up to the building with the broken roof and drop inside to meet an NPC
Be prepared for more Test Subjects to awaken and be ready to defeat them
Be cautious of the two Test Subjects in the vicinity
Dropping through the hole will lead you to the Ashina Depths: Ashina Depths Idol
make sure to buy out his inventory at Ashina and then revisit this location
and he’ll express interest in the Kite device
Jump out of the window and speak with the Old Hag
who mentions that the fresh fruit lies across the cliff and beyond the cave
She offers to help if you’re in need and requests that you bring her rice
You’ll find this item at the very end of the level
grapple all the way up to the higher ledge and perform a deathblow on the last enemy
Continue climbing up the ledges and you'll reach a clearing that offers a stunning view of a temple resembling the real-life Kiyomizudera in Japan. Grapple across the branches to reach solid ground, then head left to an area filled with carvings adorned with red cloth, representing Jizo Statues that protect children. Here, you'll find 1x Red and White Pinwheel
acknowledging that you are a shinobi and mentioning that he needs to go to the children
You can now teleport back to the Shugendo Idol to continue progressing through the Senpou Temple level
a Quick Item that resets Monkeys and Wolves to their original states
you'll encounter the Illusory Hall Monk who provides details about the monkeys in the area:
you can interact with her in the following ways:
head back to the Main Hall to deal with the Centipede Monks
Equip the Mortal Blade and use it in combat to defeat them. Afterward
return to Ashina Castle and show Kuro the blade for additional dialogue and context
You can then use the nearby Grapple point to return to the main hall of the temple
Return to Kuro in Ashina Castle to present the blade. After that, head back to the Shugendo Idol and continue with the steps for the Puppeteer Ninjutsu. Your next destination will be the Sunken Valley and Sunken Valley Passage
and she expresses her gratitude before eating and falling asleep
She then tells you that you need to wind a puppet and fly a kite
go to Blackhat Badger near the entrance of Senpou Temple and share your idea with him
You'll use the "rat" near the kite in combination with your Ninjutsu
then activate the ninjutsu by pressing R1 after delivering the deathblow
Great Serpent Shrine to begin your descent into Sunken Valley
From this point onward, make sure to visit Isshin's room in Ashina Castle and eavesdrop on his conversations. Specifically, listen for a discussion between him and Emma that will provide you with additional story details and possible options for your next steps
an NPC will mention the Senpou bells before dying
To the left of the Buddha's face, you'll find a narrow ledge where you can wall-hug and cross over. This will give you a view of the bridge. It's best to use Gachiin's Sugar to remain undetected
as this section is extremely chaotic with heavy gunfire
and then grapple to escape the gunfire. If you fall through the hole in the bridge while sprinting
you can use three grapples to quickly reach the safe zone mentioned earlier
This can help you avoid getting caught in the gunfire killzone at the end of the bridge
These items are visible from where the Spirit Emblems were
you’ll need to quickly dash to avoid the snake and then run to shore to unlock the Riven Cave Idol.
Upon reaching the valley, you'll see a hanging bridge with the Great Serpent positioned to the left
causing the bridge to collapse. Be prepared to grapple immediately to avoid falling
but you can leave them for now and collect them later when you return. At the bottom
Enter the cave to unlock the Riven Cave Idol
With the exit locked, grapple up and follow the path to reach a ledge with 3x Divine Confetti. Continue grappling upward, and you’ll arrive in the Ashina Depths
Proceed forward to commune with the Poison Pool Sculptor's Idol
and cannon-wielding enemies will replace the usual snipers
You'll encounter the mini-boss Snake Eyes Shirahagi next. Defeating her rewards you with 1000 XP and 1x Prayer Beads
It’s recommended to start with a stealth attack to ease the challenge
you can lure her into the poison to gradually weaken her
You'll notice some items high up to your left
Proceed down and follow the glowing butterflies to continue
Ahead, defeat 2x Gamefowl and then move stealthily to ambush a Samurai Spirit, which grants 91 XP. On this platform, you'll find 1x Bite Down near 3 spirits
drop down from the edge to confront a single enemy below. Continue towards the large Temple in the distance
Be cautious of spirit dogs that will attack and alert nearby enemies
Before you go past the bridge, pick up 1x Lump of Fat Wax from a corner along the edge. You'll face a Samurai Spirit that gives you 620 XP
and go up the slope and you'll see several enemies by a large building
This new ability lets you dive and breathe underwater
allowing you to explore previously inaccessible areas
Proceed forward to unlock the Wedding Cave Door Idol. Afterward, you can return to the earlier water areas and use R2 to dive, L2 to surface, and Circle to dash underwater. In the cave, you will find 1x Shelter Stone
The altar inscription reads: "Shelter stones such as this are an auspicious omen
The palanquin awaits with open arms." For game progression
head to Ashina Castle - Abandoned Dungeon Idol and advance to the main castle
revisit previous areas to collect underwater items and complete NPC quests
This allows you to stealthily pass them on the left and grapple up the gate without alerting them
You can choose to stay hidden inside the exit until the Red Hat returns to its position
stealthily maneuver behind the arrow screens and then behind the Red Hat to execute a stealth deathblow
retreat and hide around the corner of the roof until he resets
allowing you to stealth kill him as he returns
but you won't be able to access it just yet
head upwards towards the Upper Tower - Antechamber Idol for your next objective
The scroll indicates that the blade is named "Open Gate" and may be used to open a gateway to the underworld. Once you return to the Upper Tower - Antechamber Idol
you can take advantage of the area by defeating a Blue-Robed Samurai and stealthily killing a Purple Swordsman
This spot is ideal for farming as you can earn nearly 800XP in about 30 seconds
Utilize this opportunity to accumulate Skill Points if needed
there are no new items to collect in this area
You can eavesdrop on him and then execute a stealth backstab for an initial deathblow
Head to the rooftop where you first battled Genichiro Ashina to make your final decision regarding the game's ending. Here you'll need to decide what Ending you wish to go for:
and eavesdrop on him here a few times if you wish to go for the Purification Ending
This section requires getting the Father's Bell Charm from Emma. After defeating the Great Shinobi Owl for the first time
and she will eventually give you the Father's Bell Charm
You can use this to return to Hirata Estate in a different version of this memory
You can eavesdrop on a conversation between the Interior Ministry Loneshadow and Juzou
It might be best to take out the bandits on the left first
then eliminate the two poison archers before drawing the Ministry Loneshadow into a fight in the left-hand buildings
This strategy allows you to defeat the Lone Shadow one-on-one and backstab Juzou after dealing with the others
The hidden Shinobi wall won't have any new loot if you picked it up during your first run
You can also revisit the Hirata Audience Chamber Sculpture's Idol
Be wary of their dangerous attacks and stay aggressive to win
where you can stealthily make your way back to the previous idol and explore the area to encounter a mini-boss
Keep moving forward past another Spirit Emblem
and dash past the dancing masked enemies to reach the Great Sakura Idol. Rest at the idol to reset the enemies
From the branch with the nest, you'll notice an NPC on the roof of a building in the lake. Jump down into the water and swim over to her. She will inquire if you're heading to the palace and suggests using the underwater cave for entry, which is currently blocked by a Great Colored Carp
She also mentions that the palace gates have been closed for a long time and hopes you'll manage to open them for her
Drop back into the water and head to the center of the lake to encounter 2 Treasure Carps
Dive further down into the pit to continue your exploration
There’s also another 1x Precious Bait across from this location
Return to the rooftop with the NPC and dive in the opposite direction of the moon. This underwater cave leads to the Great Carp. Grab 2x Ceramic Shard along the way. In this segment
as it will instantly kill you if it sees you
The structures offer no protection if it spots you
stick to the right side of the passageways
enter the more secure structure through the middle window
which is slightly elevated from your previous position
Feeding the carp also makes it non-hostile
allowing you to safely loot the items in the cave or access it without having to kill the Carp
and this decision will determine the fate of the nobles. Regardless of your choice
and the chosen noble will be transformed into a carp NPC
Now make your way from the Old Grave Idol across the bridge to Ashina Outskirts
Do note that there will be no checkpoint between him and Isshin
See the Endings page to view the different outcomes
I've been following it and it's great
I’m something of a narrative snob and always want to progress properly like a cohesive storywithout randomly half completing areas and warping all over the place
Using this guide on my first run of the game
there are a fair amount of things missed in this guide
some content is done out of intended order
Just make sure to check other guides to get more intel on boss strategies and other important loot that is not included in this guide
In my experiences with these types of games
you will never find a 100% comprehensive walk-through to every nook and cranny of the game
all the instructions after temple are incorrect for ashina castle
Some directions are more cryptic than Fromsoft’s quest design
Warp to the top of Ashina after the attack
Drop from roof into the moat and make the way out to the exit of the castle through a bridge
How is anyone suppose to follow along when the directions are both vague and inaccurate?
right now I have obtained most ending items
This guide should only be used to tell you where to go
this guide is good for people who are lazy to read a lot
has this guide been fixed or am i still on my own
Fountainhead Pallace:Missing Okami Leader Shizu
Followed the guide and got the flower and stone yet I can’t make the incense
Has the guide been fixed or is it still crappy like what comments say
Not just various missing key details such as important steps in the quest-lines
but mostly not even guiding you at all and cutting-off
There's so much underwater stuff along the way to get that you can't because this guide has mibu village so close to the end
I don't think this is how the game was intended to be run through to be honest
when you get to the poison pool for the first time it's totally wrecked and the three cannon mobs are there
You never get to see it in its original state
I think a better guide would have more coherent ordering and also have you defeat corrupted monk sooner
The singular Gourd Seed in the chest at Fountainhead Palace was labeled twice
and the seed in Sunken Valley was not labeled at all
The point for unlocking the Gun Fort Shrine is a section ahead of where it should be
you don't get to it until after fighting Shirafuji
and the Gourd Seed has no explanation for Sunken Valley other than "get it" which is also out of order
Missed the prayer beads in the attic above the drinking priest in Mibu Village
This guide has to be written by someone with the english comprehension of a *****ing oyster
Learn to *****ing read/write the goddamn language before you *****ing write a walkthrough for an entire game you useless *****
It says following it will give you the purification ending but not once did it tell me to eavesdrop the conversations between emma and isshin
It also says to eavesdrop kuro but tells you to do it AFTER you light the incense
Now I've lost the opportunity to eavesdrop and will have to wait until my next playthrough
Whai if i pick up white lotus before talking to emma for dialog
Because of your***** route I thought this game is absurdly and unfairly brutal
Every *****ing all beads and memories runner fights her around 2/3 in
holy***** this walkthrough is very poorly made
half the***** says make your way through x area and defeat x mini boss without mentioning where or how to get there
So after the Ashina Castle where I should go: Forra or Senpou Temple
I think Sunken Valley is the canonical progression route after Ashina Castle
The icons for bosses/minibosses on the flowchart are almost impossible to see..
Ashina Castle and Depths have a way too similar color in the flowchart
The time spent is merely from dying while learning to play...the replay value is barely at all if really any I don't feel the usual want to like with the other games they've done
I played each of the other ones for literally a year after release and this game is like "yup back in the stack with the other games i've played" *sigh where's BB2*
So is this progress route made with the idea of obtaining the 4th ending
does it matter if I obtain the fruits before getting the Tome in the Temple Ground
SPOILERS:Can there be added area details for mini bosses added to ashina castle before, during the shinobi invasion and when it's set on fire
Had no idea diffrent mini bosses spawn In off the beat track locations during these seperate stages of the castle?AKA prayer beads :)
If you are quick enough you can get a deathblow at the begining
If hes going "black siloutte" go highest tree and he reveals himself i nthe middle
:D so you jsut have to battle him the 3rd phase..
Namely Blackheart Badger & the Loaded Umbrella prosthetic
What is with the old grave and gun fortress
It would be awesome if you could add in the information which areas are blocked behind bosses or even better have a image for whole Game Progress Route
Although the game is pretty new so maybe it's not time for that yet.
Because I barely see the rest of the areas to go too
I am not sure if your are still currently working to get this progress route finished
You helped me so much git gud in dark souls and bloodborne..
Now the same please with sekiro :D Just want to say GOOD WORK!!

Kodansha / “The Blue Wolves of Mibu” Production Committee
The Blue Wolves of Mibu (for once the more liberal English title is better than the literal translation) is an outlier for me in many ways
my expectations for it were higher than I could easily justify
and Days (the prior work by Yasuda Tsuyoshi) was pretty mediocre
Nothing special about the studio or director (though writer Ihara Kenta and music composer Hayashi Yuki are very distinguished names)
Despite that even in a very crowded season
I had Ao no Miburo near the top of my second expectations tier
I can only put it down to premise – this series just seems to fit me like a glove
A boy joins the Shinsengumi in their nascent days
A human story about this fascinating period in Japanese history is a draw
And airing in the same reason as the Kyoto arc of Rurouni Kenshin makes it doubly so
It’s not as though animanga haven’t done this broad subject to death but on paper
Yasuda’s slant on it seemed to be a pretty interesting one
but it’s mostly that for now – potential
What kept repeating itself in my mind was that old expression “the winning side writes history”
I find that generally to be true in the West
but – as I really consider it – less so in Japan
The Heike are a romanticized people to be sure
despite – even because of – losing the Genpei War
fondly remembered by many despite their overthrow by the Ashikaga
legends despite Tokugawa’s eventual triumph
And as for the messy period of the Boshin War and Meiji Restoration
partisan opinion is all over the map (and animanga heartily reflects that)
No one exemplifies this more than the Shinsengumi, the titular Wolves of Mibu (Mibu is a district in Kyoto, home to Mibu-dera temple)
They expressly fought on the losing side – they were fiercely loyal to the Shogunate
Yet today they’re widely viewed as heroic figures
tragic ones – loyal to the point of their own demise
Whether you see them as heroes or villains is very much a matter of interpretation – and seems to depend on one’s personality more than their views on the Shogunate vs
Rurouni Kenshin paints the Shingengumi in a pretty nuanced way
could probably best be called an anti-hero in RuroKen
Peace Maker Kurogane paints them in a generally more positive light
as it follows a young boy named Ichimura Tetsunosuke who joins them in his early teens
In some sense the premise of Ao no Miburo seems broadly similar
Ichimura Tetsunosuke was based on a real person and the hero of this series is
entirely fictional (which eases the author’s path in directing his fate in their preferred direction)
Those names need to introduction to anime fans
The background here is that the Shingengumi as we know them were not yet formed at this stage
Okita and Hijikata were members of the Roushigumi
the 19 members of the Shogunate guard who accompanied Tokugawa Yoshinobu from Edo to Kyoto who stayed behind when it was disbanded
They were resented as outsiders and troublemakers by many locals (we see that play out here)
and this is where interpretation starts to play a big role
and here the two of them are charming (well
Hijikata is a grumpy bear) and broadly heroic
at this point there’s no explanation for his striking blond and blue-eyed appearance
He’s an extremely clever and observant lad
which the two Roushigumi pick up on immediately
Nio intended to take over the Chirinuya from Granny
and Iroha has already been chosen for eventual adoption into a wealthy family
But the two future Shinsengumi captains are grooming Nio and Iroha as eventual bait to lure out the kidnappers who have been targeting local children – acts which are being wrongfully laid on the Roushigumi’s doorstep
I found Nio’s reaction to this (and Hayashi’s accompany9ing soundtrack) to be a bit over-the-top if I’m honest
And broadly speaking subtlety wasn’t much on display here
The animation and art was more “fine” than striking
though I did like the character designs and overall
But on the whole I thought this worked quite well
and it certainly drew me into the story and Nio’s role in it
I would expect this version of events to lean more heavily into fiction than some
but that’s not in itself a problem – it will all come down to execution
But with a premise so squarely in my sweet spot
my threshold on that front is honestly going to be pretty modest
I’ll be disappointed if Ao no Miburo doesn’t make the cut even in a busy season like this one
I got the feeling that Nio’s outburst at the end was supposed to be the emotional highlight of the episode
And the soaring soundtrack didn’t help
I will give this series more chance as anything on the Shinsengumi catches my interest
“the winning side writes history” is debatable even in the West
for example myth of the clean Wehrmacht after WW2 came about because a lot of Nazi generals and officials didn’t face any justice and got to write a ton of memoirs that amounted to propaganda

Blue Miburo also follows the exploits of the Shinsengumi but starts with its early DAYS
when the group was just a sub-faction of the masterless samurai originally hired to protect the shogun
They formed what became known as the Miburo—the ronin of Mibu
which would eventually become the Shinsengumi
Blue Miburo also adds another twist—rather than focusing on just the samurai
they examine the Bakumatsu era through the eyes of the most unseen—the children
we're introduced to real-life Shinsengumi commanders Hijikata Toshizou and Okita Souji
they visit a restaurant where they hear mumblings of a ring of kidnappers who have been abducting children
who have been raised by the shop's elderly proprietor—a young girl
they're used as bait by Souji to lure out the kidnappers
Nio is angry when he realizes he's been used—in a speech that reveals wisdom beyond his years
he talks about the vulnerability of children
the way they're passed around to suit agendas and later discarded
which will presumably be unpacked at some point in the series
though he resents his inability to protect his sister the most
he agrees to be taken in by the Miburo and trained alongside other youth
Blue Miburo holds a lot of promise judging from its first impression
There is of course the romanticized cool of the proto-Shinsengumi
Toshizou and Souji are handsome and fierce
and the latter a smiling devil that hides his lethal skills
he leaps from a building and cheerfully tells his ambushed foe that he's already been hit
It doesn't take a big stretch to realize he's capable of more
It also shows the balance of comedy and drama that the series tries to straddle—there are moments of slapstick with the shopkeeper that feel exasperatingly shoe-horned in
There are also instances of tonal juxtaposition between Souji and Toshizou that feel a little more earned
Both Habara and Nakata agreed to consider this mix of comedy and drama during the casting process
“We wanted to make sure whoever was cast could switch back and forth between these two settings—comedy and serious situations,” Nakata said
adding that every casting decision was made very carefully
I wanted to make sure I took time and care in choosing who will play each one.”
During early production, Habara strived for accuracy, not only with the manga source material but also with the setting. She frequently visited Kyoto for research, drawing on its rich history for inspiration. “There are still houses which swordsmen lived in,” she told the audience. “They're still preserved. I scouted these areas as much as possible. I wanted to make sure everything was recreated as accurately as possible.”
When asked about the importance of the setting, she added, “160 years ago, Kyoto was a place where children couldn't live freely without fearing for their lives. Having these children work alongside the Shinsengumi… one of the things we wanted to give was a mixture of fact and fiction… What if we had a perspective from a child?”
The irony, perhaps, is that the story is told from the memories of an old man to a gaggle of small children eager for a tale. But what are memories but one's version of the truth? If the rest of Blue Miburo is anything like the first episode, this may be a worthy inclusion into the grand pantheon of Shinsengumi stories. Anyone who wasn't fortunate enough to be in that panel room will have to wait until the fall to get a taste.

Mibu no Hana Taue is a Japanese agricultural ritual carried out by the Mibu and Kawahigashi communities in Kitahiroshima Town
Hiroshima Prefecture to assure an abundant rice harvest by celebrating the rice deity
after the actual rice transplanting has ended
the ritual enacts the stages of planting and transplanting
Villagers bring cattle to Mibu Shrine to be dressed with elaborately decorated saddles and colourful necklaces
An elder carrying a sacred stick then leads them to a rice field specially kept in reserve for the ritual
colourfully dressed girls place seedlings inside a case while singing a song under the direction of an elder
Then the rice field is levelled with an implement (eburi)
The girls then transplant the seedlings one by one
followed by the eburi-user and the person carrying the seedlings
Ritual songs are sung accompanied by drums
Once this ritual transplantation is completed
the eburi is placed upside down in water with three bunches of rice seedlings
who know the songs and music for rice planting and oversee the ritual’s smooth execution

LinkSekiro’s Corrupted Monk boss fight near Mibu Village’s Water Mill Sculptor’s Idol is a perfect example of how learning translates to winning.
The worst mistake you can make is attacking without a plan. In this guide, we’ll show you how to defeat the Corrupted Monk with the most effective Shinobi Prosthetic, items you should bring with you, and strategies to identify and react to her attacks.
There are always items and attacks that work well against Sekiro bosses. These are our recommendations for the best things to bring to your fight with the Corrupted Monk.
There are surely other attacks and items that work well, but these are our favorites. Feel free to bring your favorite Combat Art. You don’t need anything else.
The closest Sculptor’s Idol to the Corrupted Monk is the Water Mill, but there are several enemies in your way. Ignore them — especially the ghost on the bridge. Save your health for the boss fight.
This is another battle of attrition, whittling down the Corrupted Monk’s health in tiny chunks until she’s so low on Vitality that she can’t regain her Posture. Then you’ll move in for a Deathblow.
To do that, you need to learn her moves and how to respond. She has a lot of them, but not as many as it seems. (Weird, but true.) Once you can identify what she’s doing, you’ll be fine.
Keep in mind that the Corrupted Monk can chain attacks into combos. It’s not always safe to attack as soon as you identify the end of a combo. She could do a combo and finish it with a jumping back attack, for example. When in doubt, block or get away.
You can score a few free hits on the Corrupted Monk when you get into the arena. Run up to her, and take a few swipes — but don’t get greedy. You’re there to deal damage, not receive it. Back off and wait for her to attack you.
Let’s talk about the Corrupted Monk’s attacks, how to identify them, and what you should do when you see them.
A red kanji appears above Sekiro’s head, and the Corrupted Monk swings her weapon horizontally. You can avoid this with a Step Dodge, but a jump is better. Jump over the attack, and then press jump again to deal substantial Posture damage.
The red kanji appears over Sekiro’s head, and the Corrupted Monk stabs at Sekiro. You can jump away or Step Dodge to the side and counterattack. Or you can press the Step Dodge button to catch the weapon, perform a Mikiri Counter and deal Posture damage.
Regular attacks are best when she has lots of Vitality, but the Posture-Focused Mikiri Counter is better when her health is low.
The Corrupted Monk has a handful of single attacks. She’ll swipe once, and that’s the end. They’re rare, and there’s not much you can do about them, but you should be aware of them.
The Corrupted Monk swipes her weapon and jumps away from Sekiro. You can Deflect this or just get away. Either is fine.
The Corrupted Monk has several three-swing attacks. Whether she swings from the left or the right or up, start counting. You’re reasonably safe when she gets to the third attack. Just don’t respond until you’re confident that she’s not tacking another attack (or more) onto the end.
The Corrupted Monk charges Sekiro (at least if she’s far away), swipes with her weapon, jumps, and then finishes her combo with with an overhand attack.
Deflecting the final attack after her floaty jump is about as easy as deflecting gets in this boss fight. A Step Dodge to the side is better, because it gives you the opportunity to counterattack and deal Vitality damage.
There are two variations of this attack, both of which begin with a jump toward Sekiro. The first one ends with a horizontal slash. The second ends with a diagonal attack.
Block them or get out of the way. You can Step Dodge to her side to follow up with attacks of your own (assuming that she doesn’t immediately transition into another attack, which she sure can do).
Before the Corrupted Monk begins this attack, she’ll raise her weapon over her head and hold it horizontally. That’s how you know that her five-swing spinning whirlwind is coming.
You can Deflect these, but you’ll be staggered at the end (which doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll donate all of your Posture to her). Block. Deflect. Follow her whirlwind up with the Shinobi Firecracker to stun her and get a few attacks in.
Or, if you need health, run away. It takes her a moment to recover, and you can get in some safe distance.
The Corrupted Monk does a series of attacks — sometimes three, sometimes four, maybe more, maybe less — that form a combo. Watch for her second-to-last attack. She’ll hold her weapon horizontally and try to bump Sekiro.
That’s a clue. It means that she only has one more attack to go.
Watch for the bump. Block once more. Respond.
Most of this fight is about responding to the Corrupted Monk’s attacks, but we should also point out what to do when you’re on offense. And, in fact, there’s really only two things to do here.
The first is to respond to her attacks with one or two attacks of your own — and limit your response because she’s more than happy to interrupt your attacks with her own.
As it is basically everywhere in Sekiro, the Shinobi Firecracker buys you time to recover or attack. This is particularly effective to use after one of her flurries. She pauses momentarily, and you can take advantage of that like we do above.
Defeat the Corrupted Monk, and you’ll receive the Memory: Corrupted Monk and the Mibu Breathing Technique, which lets you dive and breathe underwater.

With the country's opening to foreign countries
differences abound as to whether or not this is a good thing or if the Shogunate should continue to be the ruling element
Into the fray steps a group of masterless samurai
This group doesn't have a great reputation among the locals
when young orphan Nio meets two of their number
he realizes there may be more to them than just their reputation
The Blue Wolves of Mibu is translated by Stephen Paul and lettered by Phil Christie
and all of them take a different approach to the subject matter
The Blue Wolves of Mibu is a male-oriented approach
it still shares some similarities with its female-oriented counterparts
and a preternaturally beautiful insert character
there's a rule that all author-created characters who join The Shinsen-gumi are beautiful and feminine in appearance
regardless of their gender.) It largely follows the tropes of the genre
joining the group when they're still called the Miburoshi
and learning the true nature of this force behind the history
Nio is a relatively easy character to get behind
and he's also intellectually curious enough that he wants to understand where the gap is between the Miburoshi's reality and its reputation
His main drive is to secure the best possible future for Japan
inspired in large part by the kindness he's experienced
Nio was first raised at a temple and later adopted by an older woman
Primarily raised by the woman in her restaurant
he's very aware of his unusual appearance and how good his adoptive grandmother and sister are to him despite that
When Hijikata and Okita witness his physical skills
He moves to the group's headquarters and meets other familiar names
The focus of the volume is on introducing the characters and situation
It's framed as a tale told by an old man long after The Shinsen-gumi has met its end
The narrative purports to tell the story of members forgotten by history
although the fact that a fellow recruit is named "Hajime" may risk putting a bit of a lie to that
It's mostly set up and perfectly fine - it doesn't do much different from other similar works
These slot into three distinct categories: training
with the middle getting the most page time
That's very likely in service of making sure that we understand the characters and their relationships; goofing around together is a shortcut to demonstrate the good-natured atmosphere within the group that contrasts both later actions taken by the characters and the Miburoshi's reputation within Kyoto and its environs
It also allows Nio to start thinking about who and what to believe
something we can see happening as he both participates and takes everything in at the slight removal of a newcomer to an established group
The art is reasonably comfortable with its setting
with the only real issue being the art for the faces; they feel very overdrawn
to the point where they stand out uncomfortably from the rest of the artwork
That's not to say that the backgrounds and clothing (important markers of period setting) aren't detailed
but there's something much more organic about the way they're drawn
faces mostly feel like the artist was trying a little too hard to make the protagonists stand out
and it's a shame that there isn't more of it
The Blue Wolves of Mibu's first volume is fine
That sounds like damning it with faint praise
it isn't all that different from any other straight historical fiction manga about The Shinsen-gumi
That makes it a safe bet for fans of the subgenre
and I think it will begin to distinguish itself from other similar books quickly that the introduction is taken care of
you'll want to flip through this before making a decision

Now that the plans are laid for the endgame
it’s time to tackle the final major area in Sekiro: the Fountainhead Palace
walk through the gate and grapple down to the tree branches below
Otherwise a mini-boss on the other shore will shoot huge bolts of lightning at you
head towards the wooden house to your left
Wait a little to let the manor noble enemy get in range
but cast a special weakening status on you which severely hampers your health
You’re pretty much done for if you’re not quick
move into the next room and creep up on the second noble on your left
Then there’s a third behind the screen to your right
exit the house through the door next to where you killed the second noble and turn right
On the left-hand side of the roof a sword-wielding noble will have its back to you
Then creep up to the second one further up the roof
There’s a third on the right-hand side to take out as well
Jump down this side of the roof towards the walled square in front of you
either go left through the house in front of you
or sneak right towards the larger building
jump and deathblow one of the white dogs below
then take them out as you would any of the other dog enemies - wait until they run and bite you
The thing to look out for with the white doggos is that they can jump into the air and shoot lightning at you
head to your left to the bottom entrance to the house
otherwise you’ll be in big trouble if he can cast his status on you- then deal with the dogs
There’s another pack of doggos to deal with
Go out through the exit in front of you and through the open door of the gate
This area is mostly inhabited by the weakening palace noble enemies you encountered earlier
but is also home to many sword and spear wielding nobles who will make short work of your life if you get afflicted
walk through the ruined wall through the water on your right
so wait out of sight at the corner until it’s safe to deathblow it
Crouch to avoid the attention of the other noble in the courtyard to the left
and the room open out into a larger courtyard
sticking to the left-hand side of the room
You’ll eventually reach a side exit to the room which leads to a more secluded part of the main courtyard
You need to be quick to avoid being weakened here
Sprint to your immediate left at the door and kill the noble here
which will alert another to your right on a little bridge
Sprint up to that second noble and kill it quickly
which should mean there are no more enemies aggroed to you
and you should be able to see a sword-wielding noble sitting inside a room
then sprint over to the noble on the other side of the room and kill it
Follow this path around and you’ll find an item at the end at the watery corridor
Now retrace your steps to the little bridge where you sprinted over to kill the noble earlier
On the other side of the bridge is another house
you should be able to grapple up into the attic
and you should be able to see three enemies walk below you
walk a little right and go down the hole in the centre of the attic
Kill this noble and it might aggro the three enemies
this should separate the group which lets you pick off the flute noble
before engaging the sword guys from behind
However if they’re still together just drop down behind them
then continue around to the left by crossing the little bridge
and you should be able to see two last noble enemies stood together - a flute and spear noble
but be wary of the spear-wielder’s moveset
They can jump in the air and shoot lightning
and have a multiple sweep similar to the corrupted monk
You can lightning reversal (jump out of the way and press attack as soon as you hit the ground) their lightning strike
and bounce on top of their sweep for posture damage
rush in and swing away - they’re bad at dodging and blocking
there’s one last flute noble in the area just past these guys
Before you leave though, back up the small flight of stairs before you fought the spear noble there’s a hole in the decking. You can jump in here and drive under to emerge in a secret area. Inside there are tons of Carp Scales
You can take these Waters of the Palace to the NPC in Mibu Village inside the house between the Water Mill and Wedding Shrine where you found the Prayer Bead
then return to them - the resulting encounter will net you five Carp Scales
head through the double doors and rest at the next Shrine
there’s a beefed up version of an old boss that you can go and take down: the Sakura Bull
you need to go left from the Flower Viewing Stage Shrine
Before you drop down to fight the Sakura Bull, be sure to equip your Shinobi Firecrackers - it’s a beast after all
The Bull is wandering around the right-hand side of this building
Drop down and engage when you’re ready
The optimal position to attack the Bull from is just in front of its back leg
Standing here keeps you out of the way of its horn attacks
which you can match to position yourself at its rear
the Bull has a rather large amount of health
otherwise you might get melted without warning
If you get caught in a combo you’ll most likely die
and the bull likes to keep thrashing at your corpse to make reviving difficult
when you need to heal if you focus on maintaining a safe distance first you’ll find plenty of time at the end of the Bull’s combos to safely drink
reach for your Gourd in a precarious spot and get caught in a death stomp for all eternity
the Sakura Bull will start to charge with more regularity
Chase it down by sprinting and landing some hits to its flank and it’ll soon go down
It’s death grants you not just a Prayer Bead
but a boost to your max Spirit Emblems as well - well worth the diversion
Return to the Flower Stage Shrine and rest before pressing on
move to walk over the wooden bridge and a giant carp will nom a big bite out of it
Grapple to the tree branch on the other side
then jump onto the other side of the bridge
Grapple up to the left-hand side of the pagoda in front of you
You can then grapple to another tree branch behind it
then drop down to the left and walk along with the small river
you’ll see some of the white dogs down below
then jump up the ledge to the left and grapple up to the second ledge
Now grapple up to the tree branch inside of the waterfall and then up to the wooden walkway
On your left is a door that you can’t open yet
Two enemies will run out of the temple in front of you
look over the left-hand side of the platform you’re on and jump down to the sakura-covered floor below
there’s an open platform with lots of noble enemies here
You can either wade in and take them all out
focusing first on deathblowing one of the sword guys before mainlining the enemy kicking the ball
you can skip the fight altogether by jumping over to the extreme left-hand side of the platform and crouch-sneaking against the wall
Now jump up the stairs and rest at the Shrine here
jump off the edge of the platform and grapple to the Great Sakura tree
You’ll come face-to-face with the goober that’s been shooting lightning at you if you so much as dip a toe in the main lake: Okami Leader Shizu
The Leader is only dangerous if you give them too much respect
Their lightning attacks deal a heck of a lot of damage
but if you just run up at whack them with your sword a few times they’ll stagger very quickly
so rather than try and deflect their attacks just go on the offensive and push forward
Rest at the Sakura Shrine when you’re done
then jump off the side of that large tree branch into the water
Underwater in the main body of the lake you’ll find another Headless
You don’t actually have to beat it to swim up and collect all the items - one of which is a Prayer Bead
In front of you is a submerged house with an old lady marooned on it - speak to her
Go underwater and underneath that house is a Lump of Grave Wax that you can collect
Keep swimming over to the far side of the lake and you’ll find another submerged house with three Carp Scales in
and you’ll find a large underwater cave that you can swim into
you’ll find the giant carp from earlier
so to avoid the big boi swim down and hug the right-hand wall
There are some submerged tunnels here that you can take cover in
using your dash to make a break for it through the gaps between them
At the end of the tunnels dash towards the cave in front of you and you’ll be able to surface
grapple up the trees until you reach the Castle Grounds shrine
then look to your left - it’s the other side of the locked door from earlier
you’ll find a treasure chest with a Gourd Seed as well as another door you can open
Return to the Grounds Shrine and teleport to Kuro’s room to give the final Seed to Emma
When you’re back at the Castle Grounds Shrine
then through the door you opened to the left
walk a little to your left and you should be able to see a grapple point on your right
Jump off the side of the cliff towards the point and grapple up towards it
Jump off the other side and grapple to the rooftop in front of you
Run to the other side of the roof and look down
you’ll see another one of the weird little Pot Noble dudes here who you can swap Carp Scales with for fabulous prizes
This is your chance to get the final Mask Fragment and start to use skill points for attack boosts
as well as enough pieces of Lapis Lazuli to upgrade your Shuriken up to the maximum
Rest at the Shrine next to the Pot Noble and use it to travel back to the Castle Grounds
From the Castle Grounds Shrine go into the building in front of you
past the treasure chest where you found the Gourd Seed
Grapple up to the tree branches in front of you
Now you need to run up the long set of stairs
you’ll have to fight two Spear-wielding nobles
and keep slashing to interrupt their attacks
but keep watch for the large lightning slash
Continue up the stairs and rest at the Shrine on your right
continue to the top of the stairs and pray at the altar
you’ll find yourself in one of the few required boss fights in the whole game: the Divine Dragon
you need to destroy all of the light-colored weird tree things
but be careful of getting in the middle of a lot of them
Stick to the edges of the ground and hack away
After a while dark-coloured enemies will start to appear and attack you more aggressively with melee
When this first health bar is reduced another cutscene will play
you’ll be fighting the giant dragon itself
You need to block its vertical slashes with your sword and jump over its sweeps
you need to grapple to one of the trees in front of you that’s sparkling with electricity
You’ll jump into the air and get a lightning bolt so press attack and point it at the dragon
Repeat this three times more and the trees will disappear
The dragon will then start to attack more quickly
so continue to block the vertical slashes and jump over the sweeps
so grapple to the glowing one and land the final bolt
sprint up its sword and slice out its tears
You’ll find yourself back in Kuro’s room
Speaking to Emma will start the events of the end of the game’s main story
so now’s the time to go back and clean up the Shichimen Warrior just next to the Castle Grounds Shrine
go into the building in front of you and go through the door to the left
You’ll find the Warrior at the base of the waterfall on the left
All you need to do to beat him is throw some Divine Confetti and make sure you have the Terror Gourd or some Pacifying Agent ready
rush up to him and hack away - it’ll do a load of damage
Eventually he’ll disappear and teleport away down the river
Sprint to the side of the beam attack that he casts
then close the distance and hack away again
Repeat this for the second phase and he should go down quite straightforwardly
Your reward for this fight is another piece of Lapis Lazuli
which now means you could upgrade any of your tools to the maximum
return to Kuro’s room and begin preparations to clean up any other bosses you want to fight and take on the final boss

As Australia’s national science agency, we recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Australia’s first scientists. We’re working with Indigenous partners and collaborators to support the strengthening of Indigenous knowledge in our science. Indigenous perspectives were included in the State of the Environment report for the first time in 2021.
she looks at Indigenous interactions with the marine environment and how Indigenous science and knowledge can be incorporated within marine ecology and management
"It’s quite well known that climate change impacts Indigenous communities mostly first before others
And that is because of our intricate understanding of the environment," Mibu says
She says sea level rise is impacting Indigenous communities through inundation of freshwater supplies
degradation of coastlines and reduction of terrestrial territory.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are also being impacted through loss of culturally significant species through extinction or location shifts
and changes to habitats because of invasive species.
"While these issues also impact non-Indigenous communities
the wellbeing impact on a culture that is intrinsically connected to Country is significant,” Mibu says.
Mibu says given the acceleration of climate change
adaptation of culture to suit these changing climatic conditions is not widely acknowledged or talked about.
Indigenous groups were able to move and adapt culture to suit the changing conditions of the environment,” Mibu says.
we’re limited in our ability to move and adapt
Some of these restrictions are legal regulations and state boundaries
But it is also due to the perceptions that Indigenous Traditions are static.”
Mibu says Indigenous communities are adapting the way ceremony is held or how particular species are utilised to protect country
“These changes do not influence or make the practice
That is an important thing to remember,” she says.
“Indigenous worldview seeks to include humans as part of the ecosystem and locally specific knowledge of place can include early indicators of change," Mibu says.
“It would mean there is a lesser emphasis on monetary values and a higher value on wellbeing of people and environment.”
Mibu says this cannot be done appropriately if Indigenous views
She says Indigenous peoples are not adequately represented at present.
"This means in some instances a combination of western and Indigenous methods will work
sometimes western solutions need to be used and other times Indigenous methods will be the best," Mibu says.
"There needs to be equity in various knowledge systems
Indigenous people need to be empowered to participate within science."
Mibu encourages young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to pursue careers in science.
“We are able to bring the knowledge we have as Indigenous people to understand the issues our communities face and to bring the right people together to solve problems that impact us.”
Mibu shares her advice for young women wanting to work in a science
“Reach out to others in this space and develop your community of peers,” she says.
is extremely important in spaces like science

[Image changes to show waves crashing onto rocks

There are Pacific nations not going to have a land which will all in turn impact on our ability to practice culture
[Camera zooms in on a close view of the spray in the air
and text appears: How does climate change affect the wellbeing of Indigenous communities?]
Because we have such strong connections to our Country what does that mean for our overall wellbeing
They’re the type of questions that I have
[Music plays as image changes to show Mibu Fischer talking to the camera
My name is Mibu Fischer and I am a Marine Ethnoecologist
[Images move through to show a CSIRO Marine Laboratories sign
A Marine Ethnoecologist is a term I made up for myself
[Images move through to show Mibu drawing on a whiteboard

It really was a term for me that described my role in marine ecology and looking at human interactions
and how Indigenous science and knowledge can be incorporated within marine ecology and management
[Image changes to show a map of Australia showing Brisbane pinpointed
I am a Nunukul Goenpul woman from Quandamooka Country which is just off the coast of Brisbane
[Image changes to show an aerial view looking down on Moreton Bay
and then the image changes to show an aerial view of the whole area]
if you have heard of Moreton Bay or you have flown into Brisbane over the water and you’ve looked out the window and you’ve seen a bunch of sand islands
[Images move through to show the sun shining through tree leaves
and then a facing view of Mibu walking on the beach]
Going back there and smelling like the fresh salt air
and walking on the beach and realising that
[Image changes to show Mibu talking the camera]
The cultural ties that I have to Country is really important and I think that’s a really important thing to realise
is that for a lot of Indigenous people being able to contribute to caring for Country is something we feel obliged to do
[Image changes to show a facing and then rear view of Mibu walking towards the camera]
And being a scientist is one way that I am able to play my role in my community
[Music plays as image changes to show a Qld Bioscience Precinct sign
and then the image changes to show Mibu talking to the camera]
in my current role I have varied responsibilities
[Images move through to show Mibu walking along the verandah

They can be from chairing national committees
developing Indigenous participation within Australian conferences
I also work with Indigenous communities around how they can interact with their rights and interests within the marine space
[Image changes to show a view of the Investigator ship and then the image changes to show the camera panning along the deck of the Investigator ship]
I get to go into the field sometimes and that includes being on a boat for four weeks
[Images move through to show the Investigator moving through the water
walking on Country and having those really important and special conversations with Traditional Owners
[Image changes to show a facing and then a rear view of Mibu walking through her workplace]
I am really lucky that I have the breadth of activities that I have in my work because not all scientists get that
[Image changes to show Mibu talking to the camera
and then images move through of Mibu working on her computer
The aspects of my work that I get the most enjoyment out of is the moments when I am talking to a Traditional Owner
and I see it in their face that they’ve realised that their knowledge that’s been passed down to them over generations is actually really important
[Images move through to show Mibu talking to her colleagues
Trying to justify the differences and the validity of both world views within the science context is a big challenge
[Image changes to show Mibu talking with her colleagues
and then the image changes to show her female colleague speaking]
I think it is slowly changing as people realise that Indigenous world views have their own way of gathering and transferring knowledge and I only think it’s going to increase across science in general
[Images move through to show Mibu and her colleagues seated around a coffee table in conversation
and then Mibu talking to the camera again]
I am really passionate about encouraging other young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in particular into STEM fields
through various programmes like the CSIRO Young Indigenous Women’s STEM Academy
[Images move through to show a view of a calm sea
schools of fish swimming through the water
and a water droplet on a microscope slide under a microscope]
I was inspired to study science from a Grade 11 Biology camp where I went snorkelling and we collected sea water
[Image changes to show a view of the water droplet as seen through the microscope showing plankton
we looked at it under a microscope and I saw the tiny little plankton that existed
and that really sparked my interest in all the unknown things about the oceans
[Image changes to show a view looking up at palm trees
and then the image changes to show Mibu and a colleague walking along a path between the two rows of palm trees]
I was successful in gaining a cadetship with CSIRO
[Images move through to show Mibu talking to the camera
a facing view of Mibu walking with a colleague
It was really beneficial to see what an actual scientist does on the daily
which I realised that my counterparts at university didn’t get to see that insight
and so their expectations of what a scientist was were different to mine
and within that cadetship I realised all the opportunities that CSIRO opened up
[Images move through to show Mibu and her colleague entering the Queensland Bioscience Precinct
and a facing view of Mibu and her colleague walking inside the precinct]
when I finished my degree I took on any role that was available
[Image changes to show Mibu talking to the camera]
I’ve been a research technician and a research assistant until
[Image changes to show a close view of Mibu talking to the camera]
I think it is a really great pathway into science
[Images move through to show a view looking up at the sun shining through the palm trees
views of Mibu and her colleague in conversation
We have the ability to address questions for the Australian public in a way that other institutions can’t
[Images move through of Mibu and her colleague seated at an outdoor table in conversation together]
and the opportunities that CSIRO offers is really amazing and I really see the importance of having a younger voice within science
Mibu and a colleague looking at a computer and talking together
And just because there is a lot of world-renowned scientists here
your ideas aren’t going to contribute immensely to answering these global questions
[Images move through to show a view of Moreton Bay
a rear view of Mibu walking towards the water
Science to me is about creativity and answering questions in unique ways
by including Indigenous science and knowledge because the knowledge that has been generated over the generations and passed down is extremely valuable
profile and facing views of Mibu looking out to the sea
and then a view looking down on Mibu walking and then running along the coast]
It is really important to educate our researchers who come from a western education to the validity of Indigenous science and knowledge
and how it can only enhance the ability of us as scientists to answer questions that are really in the forefront for us globally
Solving Australia’s greatest challenges is impossible without people just like you

image and premiere date for the anime The Blue Wolves of Mibu (Ao no Miburo) available to fans
the anime The Blue Wolves of Mibu (Ao no Miburo) premieres in the October 2024 season
With the Hidden Forest looking decidedly less misty
the way is now clear to take on the cursed Mibu Village and its terrible residents
It’s an interesting place and opens up some very interesting battles
and it’s one of the best places to grind up Skill XP and Sen if you need to grab an item from a merchant or learn a skill
take a look to the right down the hill below you
There’s a Memorial Mob merchant here that sells loads of great items
and a multiple-use Gourd that reduces Terror status
great for fighting the Headless and similar bosses
Downstream to the right of the Mob is a rock-hard Shinobi dude
He’s guarding another precious Carp Scale
which you can nab without killing him if you lead him away then sprint in and grab the item while he’s chasing you
run forward from the Mibu Village Shrine upstream
You’ll see some zombie farmers collecting in the river
of slash them once or twice to take them out - they’ll only respawn in a few seconds
Follow the steam until you see a path that leads around to the left
Walk along it and you’ll meet a big group of zombie farmers
Either Whirlwind Strike to take them out or jump up and grapple to the tree branch behind them
Jump onto the thatched roof in front of you
then when you’re done grapple out and grapple across to the second roof
There’s an area over to the left where you can collect a couple of good upgrade items
As you make your way through this small area
little dudes will burst out of the ground and grab you
Under the big tree in the top left of the fenced graveyard is a Gourd Seed
which you’ll definitely want to pick up
make your way around to the left before grappling up behind the big bell dude
and deathblow the farmer waiting for you at the top
Walk forward and there’s another zombie collector digging in the ground
There are two old lady enemies here that are very
If you get caught in their grab attack they’ll destroy most of your health
then sprint and strike back when they stop
They’re weak when unguarded so finish them quickly
there’s a Sculptor’s Idol where you can rest
You’ll hear music playing as you progress
She’s a pretty tough optional boss - O’Rin of the Water
since you can just run past her across the bridge to the left
equip some Divine Confetti to deal extra damage and parry her strikes
Whirlwind Strike works well against her guard
but otherwise you’re trying to bait out the end of her combos to counterstrike
Once you’re on the other side of the bridge
over to your right you’ll see a load of enemies in front of a house that you can Eavesdrop on
their grey projectiles inflict Terror status which will kill you instantly if your bar gets filled
Try not to get stuck in the middle of the group
otherwise you can get caught out by the grabby old lady enemies
you’ll find a revolving door that lets you inside the house
then go out through the ruined walls to grab items outside
you can grapple to the second floor where you can find a Prayer Bead
Jump onto the roof and back out to where you fought the enemies
If you lost any health or consumed any items
go back to the Water Mill Shrine and restock
Retrace your steps to here and continue on the path up to the left
You’ll come face-to-face with a difficult boss
and requires intense concentration for a long time
but it takes a heck of a long time to get down
she’ll be vulnerable to a few hits right at the start
you can also use Snap Seeds to stun her up to three times
This leaves her open to a couple of slashes or a Shinobi Axe swing
Her main combo is a five strike long circular sweep
Sprint backwards to get out of the way of the first three of four swipes
This will leave you in a strong position to retaliate with a counterstrike
When she does her unblockable sweep attack
you can try to jump on her head if you want
The best thing to do is stand back from both of these strikes then nip in at the end of the combo to deal some quick damage
A lot of her moves are quite slow and deliberate
so a lot of this fight is about step dodging out of the hitbox of her attack
then sprinting back in to chip her health away
jump back at her and parry her strike while you’re in the air - this also leaves you in a great counter position
hold block and try to put some distance between the two of you
You can interrupt her thrust attack by hitting her while she’s winding it up
Defeating the Monk gets you not only a Memory attack boost
but the ability to swim underwater as well
Go and rest at the shrine that’s appeared on the battlefield
then go through the cave opening to the left
Inside you’ll find the Shelter Stone
All this talk of Immortal Severance will lead you to a new main objective: obtain the Mortal Blade
Travel to the Main Hall Shrine at Senpou Temple
then go over to where the elderly monk was sat in front of the statue earlier
there’s a bell that you can interact with
Ringing it transports you to a new realm and a fresh challenge
This set-piece boss battle is different from any other that you’ve faced so far
It’s more of an action puzzle than a straight up fight
which will test your strategy more than mechanical skill
Your goal is to kill the four Folding Screen Monkeys that’re hiding the Divine Child
You have to take each one out very specifically
or you’re going to be in for a bad time
Roaming the arena are packs of deadly ghost monkeys (yes
who inflict Terror status and can overwhelm and kill you very quickly
You’ll want to keep a beady eye out for them as you go about your business
Ringing it will reset the position of all of the monkeys
so be sure to make use of it if you’re stuck
trolling you mercilessly with his mere presence
then grapple up onto the structure in front of you
You’ll see a big tree with two of the monkeys in it in front of you
grappling onto the wooden walkway on the other side of the tree
There’s a giant bell here that you can interact with
and you’ll see the green monkey just above you
Interact with the giant bell to ring it and it’ll stun the monkey
Now grapple up to him and kill him while he’s stunned
who is invisible while you’re more than a few feet away from him
The only way to track him is to follow the trail of flames that he leaves behind
After you’ve scared him from the tree in the centre
he’s probably wandering around the perimeter wall
grapple to the roof behind you and see if you can spot the flames
He’s probably on the other side of the tree
Around now is probably where the Terror ghost monkeys will come into play
break off from following the red monkey for a minute
then resume your hunt so you don’t scare him off
Once you’re in range of a stealth blow
He’s found in the top left tower of the area - looking at it from your starting position (see around 27:14 in the walkthrough video)
Make your way across the rooftops from the red monkey
either killing or running from the ghost monkeys along the way
Once you’ve reached the roof of the tower
Make sure you do this on the bottom side rather than the right
You then need to drop onto the monkey and air assassinate him
This isn’t completely straightforward though
go to the far door in the temple he was hiding in and interact with it
This will make it dark in the room so he won’t spot you on the roof
then return to the roof and get the drop on him
you’ll be in a new area with a new NPC to meet - The Divine Child
speak to her again and exhaust your conversation options
At the top you can open a door which leads back to the Main Hall Shrine
travel to Kuro’s room and speak to him
Following this conversation your only way to advance will be to seek the second item you seek
In a lot of FromSoftware games the baddies have been huge monstrous beasts, but in Sekiro you mostly fight human foes. That’s about to change - in the next part where we take on the Sunkey Valley, Gun Fort, and Bodhisattva Valley
