going through a lot of what’s in the book you’re writing about a lot of significant moments but you don’t want to give people the impression your life was wall-to-wall drama I guess no one would have seen the sexual abuse stuff coming [Berenyi alleged that she was abused by her grandmother] I didn’t really talk about it in interviews because I didn’t trust the journalists to handle it properly but I didn’t like the Daisy Chainsaw/Babes in Toyland image of ripped clothes One thing that hadn’t been talked about is how normalised it becomes in your life and how damaging it can be some people self-harm or struggle with relationships and every now and then I’ve had a nod from people who’ve said they went through something similar What was the most unexpected – or pleasant – response to your memoir but it meant most to me that people praised the actual writing I had so little self-confidence when doing it I would think: “No one cares about the singer from Lush doing a bloody autobiography.” It was gruelling So it was nice to realise that sometimes the smaller stories are the most interesting ones how did the Lillies’ single And David Seaman Will Be Very Disappointed About couldn’t see it I wasn’t going to stop dyeing it because some bloke would go: “Oh you’d look really pretty if your hair was natural.” The reason I stopped was because I thought: “I haven’t time for almost like the writers decided they were as interesting as the artists ApexPredatorThere’s this notion that the music press back in the day was just about building bands up to knock them down – but I actually think it’s really hard to write about music well and especially having to constantly make every band sound unique and not bore everyone witless abysmally paid and there were very young people involved The worst of that period was when you had a muscle-flexing journo trying to score points off a band It was very tabloid and I don’t think bands were treated particularly well so I expect thinking “I hope I get some shifts” is the same as a music journalist hoping to get that next trip to Los Angeles What was it like having Robin Guthrie from Cocteau Twins produce Lush After taking part in the Crusades against the Albigensians he used his inheritance to free Christian prisoners held by the Moors He later founded the Order of Our Lady of Mercy (Mercedarians) beginning in 1218 devoted to ransoming Christians John the Apostle was taken to Rome under the Emperor Domitian and plunged into a cauldron of boiling oil; by a striking miracle he came out safe and sound from this torture This disposition to forgive did not die with St but has continued to be one of the most characteristic virtues of the saint Benedict as related in the Dialogues of St that he was continuously and severely persecuted by a delinquent priest who lived in the neighborhood of the monastery in order to protect the virtue and the vocations of his disciples Benedict decided to abandon the site of his monastery and move to another location He and his monks had hardly left their monastery when word was brought that the persecutor had died suddenly Contrary to the expectation of the messenger who brought the news Benedict broke out in loud lamentations that his enemy had died suddenly and had not had an opportunity to repent The saints see so much more clearly than we the relative unimportance of the hardships and injustices we suffer in this world and the importance before all else of the sinner's being converted and repenting of his sins How long and how persistently we harbor grudges in our hearts against those who have offended us How difficult we find it to forgive freely and from our hearts Yet we proclaim ourselves to be Christians and to practice all the Christian virtues Do we forget that our Lord told us that if we expect our prayers to be heard and our sacrifices to be pleasing in the sight of God and go first and make peace with our brother Nor is the disposition to forgive our enemies peculiar only to the saints and martyrs of the ancient Church; nor should we expect it to be and if His disciples were commanded to forgive their enemies in His day Father Pro was executed in Mexico some years ago he was asked by his executioner if he had anything he wished to do or anything he wished to say before the sentence was executed Father Pro said that there was; he wished to be given an opportunity to pray for his executioners and to give them his blessing before he died During the persecutions in Spain during the late civil war one of the religious who was to be put to death by the communists was led to his death with his hands bound asked to be allowed to give his blessing to the members of the firing squad It is said that the officer in charge of the guard untied his hands and then swiftly struck off the hands of the priest with his sword raised his right arm and traced the sign of the cross over the heads of his murderers This is the true sign of the authentic martyr the characteristic mark of the true saint of the Church Who His own self bore our sins in His body upon the tree" (Epistle) The redemption of man as accomplished by Christ might have been accomplished in other ways but none of them would have been as perfect as the way Christ chose God might have forgiven man outright without requiring any satisfaction for sin This would have been a splendid manifestation of the infinite mercy of God but it would have ignored His infinite justice God might have refused redemption and forgiveness altogether and this would have been in complete conformity with His justice but it would not have satisfied His infinite mercy Perfect redemption required that both God's mercy and justice be satisfied Any act of satisfaction on his part would only have been of limited and finite value An act of reparation offered by a divine person would have been adequate since it would not have been offered by the offending party The only possibility of a perfect redemption was for the divine person to become incarnate could perform acts of infinite value; since he was a human being He could act in the name of the human race and offer an act of reparation which would be both adequate and authentic But the martyrdom of the latter Apostle called for a scene worthy of the event was not a sufficiently glorious land for such a combat whither Peter had transferred his Chair and where he died on his cross and where Paul had bowed down his venerable head beneath the sword alone deserved the honor of seeing the beloved disciple march on to martyrdom with that dignity and sweetness which are the characteristics of this veteran of the Apostolic College In the year 95 John appeared before the tribunal of pagan Rome the worship of a Jew who had been crucified under Pontius Pilate He was considered a superstitious and rebellious old man and it was time to rid Asia of his presence sentenced to an ignominious and cruel death A huge cauldron of boiling oil was prepared in front of the Latin Gate The sentence ordered that the preacher of Christ be plunged into this bath The hour had come for the second son of Salome to partake of his Master’s chalice the boiling liquid lost all its heat; the Apostle felt no scalding when they took him out again he felt all the vigor of his youthful years restored to him This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks The action you just performed triggered the security solution There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase You can email the site owner to let them know you were blocked Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page Miki Berenyi, former frontwoman of the ’90s dream pop greats Lush, released her debut album with the Miki Berenyi Trio just last month Today they’re already sharing more new music in the form of a single called “Stranger” that features the Cure founding member Lol Tolhurst and his son Gray “Stranger” was initially conceived by the Tolhursts after Lol supported the Miki Berenyi Trio on tour last year; Miki Berenyi Trio’s Tripla Influences Playlist The Lush vocalist—along with bandmates Ollie Cherer and Kevin McKillop—share how Gang of Four and more shaped the sounds of their debut album the Trio will release their debut album Tripla via Bella Union with the band seamlessly bridging the gap between the dream-pop sounds Berenyi initially helped usher in during the early-’90s and today’s more fractured take on the genre Lead single “8th Deadly Sin” introduced the band’s sound over electronic percussion ripped from the alternative-dance scene while the more recent “Big I Am” presents a hazier vision of what Tripla might have in store While we still have another day to wait until we can hear the full record all three members came together to present us with a playlist of influences that speak to both the vintage and contemporary inspirations on the record—which together demonstrate the broad palette the trio worked within “The stuff I listen to when I’m recording tends to be more of a palate cleanser,” McKillop shares I listen to a multitude of old faves from different worlds—some things have been with me for decades others are new bands and artists I may have seen live recently.” You can pre-order Tripla here, and check out the playlist MB3 came up with below. Tom Tom Club, “Genius of Love”Tina Weymouth is my longest serving and most constant Reason to be Cheerful. Her spare, lean basslines are an inspiration, and her influence on “Big I Am” nudges plagiarism, for which I am unapologetic. I’ve not yet perfected that running-on-the-spot thing she does, though.  Cocteau Twins, “Ivo” I bought this on release and played it to death, and when writing new songs with MB3 it became an unavoidable touchstone. Still utterly irresistible. The Monkees, “Porpoise Song”I was playing this a lot when we were writing Tripla, and I think its soaring, wistful vastness seeped in by osmosis. That kind of majestic beauty isn’t a quality I’d obviously associate with The Monkees, but that’s exactly what it’s made of.  Föllakzoid, “I”There are definite EDM elements to the MB3 sound—I’m a sucker for an arpeggiating mono synth and a space echo, and Föllakzoid’s I album has them in abundance. It’s no surprise that they pop up here and there on Tripla. Dark, hard, and unrelenting, and a constant soundtrack throughout 2024. Craven Faults, “Vacca Wall”It’s become something of a tradition to listen to dark-ambient techno on the motorway, late at night after MB3 shows, and Craven Faults seems to come up more than most. The only drawback is that pulling into the forecourt of a motorway motel at 2 a.m. with this as the soundtrack feels like driving into a particularly doomy slice of Scandi noir. Unsettling. Red Crayola, “Hurricane Fighter Plane”A band I used to go see in the ’80s called The Purple Things used to do a cover of this song, but it’s not on Spotify so I’ll go with the original—it was the jumping-off point for my writing “Hurricane” (another namecheck!). I always loved that simple, looping bass line that instantly makes your dancing muscles twitch while retaining a hypnotic quality.  Françoise Hardy, “Comment te dire adieu”I was always a bit wary of the French femme fatales of ’60s pop because so many blokes around me in bands at the time fetishised Birkin/Bardot/Hardy for, I felt, all the wrong reasons. But there’s no resisting such a classic bit of French pop, and that descending melody scale has been used in many songs, so I thought I’d do my own take with “Kinch.”  Simple Minds, “Changeling”This early era of Simple Minds was a touchstone when we started Piroshka, and although I don’t write songs like this, or sing anything like Jim Kerr, the dynamics of the music are incredible and something to aspire to (in my wildest dreams). Culture, “Two Sevens Clash”A mega-slice of joy, it’s impossible to prevent this track from taking total control of body and soul. The whole album is stunning—the tracks “Natty Dread Taking Over” and “Calling Rasta for I” are equally superb. John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman, “They Say It’s Wonderful”This is from an Impulse album from 1963 (a vintage year—I was born that January!). Both artists had an early affiliation with Dizzy Gillespie, though they were never in his band at the same time. I could’ve picked anything from this album (“Lush Life,” for example). Sparse and tender, warm and so humane, this has been part of my life for nearly 40 years.  Daniel Avery, “Higher”Some old-skool DnB. This is one of the highlights of Ultra Truth, released a few years ago and easily one of the best records of recent times. I’ve been lucky enough to catch Avery’s DJ sets at various festivals in the last few years. He’s incredible and never disappoints! I’d also recommend his DJ Kicks album. Arvo Pärt, “Summa”There are many recordings of this, both orchestral and choral. I lean toward the latter and this Hilliard Ensemble recording is amazing—ethereal with a pared-back simplicity that conveys real intimacy. You can imagine opening your eyes and seeing them singing right there in front of you. Northern Transmissions is a music website started for music lovers, by music lovers. Michelle “Miki” Bowman is the White House’s nominee to serve as the central bank’s next vice chair for supervision, President Donald Trump announced Monday in a Truth Social post “Miki has been serving honorably on the Fed’s Board of Governors since 2018 and has great expertise dealing with Inflation “Our Economy has been mismanaged for the past four years I am confident we will achieve Economic heights never before seen in our Nation’s History.” In a statement Monday Bowman said she is “grateful for the continued faith and confidence [Trump] has placed in me to fulfill this vital role.” Despite Trump’s assertion Monday that Bowman “will be” the Fed’s next supervision czar she still must go through the typical nomination process: a hearing in front of the Senate Banking Committee whose members will then vote on whether to advance the nomination to the full Senate Her nomination is not expected to see an overwhelming challenge since Republicans have a majority in the Senate Sen. Tim Scott called Bowman “an important voice on the Federal Reserve Board in pushing back on burdensome rules and regulations that stifle economic opportunity,” according to a Monday statement “I’ve long called for more accountability at the Federal Reserve and I’m hopeful that Governor Bowman will help increase transparency around the regulatory and supervisory work of the Board,” Scott said “There is significant work ahead to rightsize our regulatory framework and remove politics from our federal financial regulators.” Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-MA, the banking panel’s ranking member, however, said placing Bowman in charge of supervision at the Fed “begs for another cycle of Wall Street deregulation, bank crashes, and bailouts,” according to a statement seen by Bloomberg have expressed enthusiasm for Bowman’s nomination “I’d be excited to see Miki Bowman appointed. Defined as the quality of being eminent or distinguished It is often argued whether its origins lie within a person or are they learned It is a debate that often surrounds many young athletes who rise to the top of their sport before they can legally rent a car A young adult hogging all the accolades must possess some intrinsic gift or be spoon fed a magic elixir from the wisest of coaches or a result of years of dedicated training For world champion Tsubaki Miki the answer may be all of the above or something even deeper The 21-year-old Japanese snowboarding sensation sits atop the current overall women’s standings of the VISA FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup She is the dominant force on tour with three victories this season and eleven podiums in twelve races With a nearly insurmountable lead in the crystal globe race Miki is on pace for her fourth straight top five overall finish Despite her youth her trophy case to commision an architect to draft up an addition six junior world championship medals and six world cup wins in less than seven years This is just the beginning of her years at the sport’s highest level yet greatness already provides a fitting description Her desire for the top of the podium comes from hunger sure but there is no “Mamba Mentality” of arrogance here Miki’s pursuit of snowboard excellence comes from a much deeper place - love Miki’s connection to snowboarding grew from one of the deepest connections in the world Miki’s girl dad was a snowboard instructor and put her on the fresh powder from a young age He was her first coach although the youngster has raced past her old man’s abilities so it was inevitable that I would pass him,”– Miki said with a laugh.Miki also leans on 2022 overall champion Lee Sang-ho for guidance The Korean veteran on the men’s side speaks with Miki often Their connection supersedes any linguistic roadblocks “He is fast and strong and I’m learning a lot from his riding I also respect his attitude and way of thinking about snowboarding both as a top athlete and as a senior in life Sang-ho was always willing to answer any questions I had but he spoke to me in a way that was easy to understand I basically learn from the way he lives his life,”– Miki said The secondary voice is useful as Miki keeps a small team After multiple coaches following her father A potential sign that greatness may come from within a small competition was being held at a ski resort where I used to go I asked to compete and I entered the elementary school division I was so happy to see the view from the podium and the congratulations I received at that moment I made it my first goal to win that competition and that is how I entered the world of snowboard alpine,”– Miki said.Tsubaki Miki tops the podium in Rogla 2025 © Miha Matavz/FISShe carved a blazing pace ever since Despite her youth Miki has a whole career length under her belt Many youth athletes suffer a spout of burnout and either hang up the boots or find a way to push through as they chase the pinnacle of their sport there were many times when I was in a situation where I might have to quit and each time I wondered how I could continue and each time I just looked forward,”– Miki said. Her love of the sport is genuine It comes through every time she crosses the finish line throwing a triumphant fist pump and ear-to-ear grin “I love snowboarding and I love the view I see when I am snowboarding I love competing against someone else for speed the World Cup is a heavenly place where top athletes from all over the world gather so I always want to stay on the snow until the very end of the competition That's all there is to it,”– Miki said. One can imagine you might have to drag Miki off the board Perhaps in thirty years Miki will be surpassing the current ageless marks Claudia Riegler is making on the World Cup tour this season Miki’s favorite moment of her young yet lengthy career came around a monumental career moment when she summited the PGS podium of the 2023 World Championships at Bakuriani “It was the time between winning the semi-finals and the big finals of the World Championships I was so into snowboarding that I didn't think about anything but snowboarding I really felt that I had worked hard for this movement and achievement,” Miki said Tsubaki Miki in action dueling her competitors ©Miha Matavz/FISIt is in those moments between rounds where Miki finds her peace She reviews the video from her previous runs and finds ways to chase more speed in the next round This focus and drive gives her a noticeable tranquility on race days so I try to ride better in quarterfinals than in the 1/8 final and in the semifinals than in the Quarterfinals and so on That may lead to my calmness,”– Miki said.Do not mistake that peace for a lack of drive Miki sits comfortably ahead of her peers this season but is hungry for more “My goals for this season are to win three crystal globes and another world championship It is an important step towards the next Olympics My ultimate goal in my athletic career is to win a gold medal at the Milano Olympics I have been working hard since I was 8 years old to get there I’m generally happy with the current results this was a season in which I wanted to achieve results at all costs But I’m looking for more speed and strength I will continue to practice hard during the remaining two months to prepare for the World Championships,” Miki said always chasing greatness even when it is already achieved That drive finds a bit of backseat in her offseason activities or the short in-season breaks Miki returned home after her win in Rogla for training during the current short break She will find some comfort in her home surroundings while getting ready to battle it out for the season's return in Canada in February Off the mountain Miki maintains a normal life of a food-driven young adult Well as normal as one can get when every winter you are compiling passport stamps like Taylor Swift on her world tour my mother's cooking is so exquisite that I always have her make it for me when I am able to go home when I return to Japan,”– Miki said.Perhaps the great secret elixir was ramen broth all along Four $50,000 third-round divisions of the Blue Chip Matchmaker were held clearly stamped herself as the one to beat springing from the that between public and private art; that between art of the past and art of the present as well as her fond remembrance of encounters with deities and spirits at rituals or in everyday life in Japan they’re constantly embracing the dichotomies Miki harbors special fondness for a cultural environment where proximity to other possible worlds is not taken as a surprise or a threat but accepted as part of the metaphysical givens In spite of American secularism telling us otherwise the artist recognizes that the visible world does not constitute the totality of things Miki’s insistence on the place of the spiritual in public life emanates throughout her body of work meticulously mining historical traditions for speculative fictions capable of repairing and healing Shortly before we spoke, Miki won the Anderson Ranch Visiting Artist Prize for her felt sculptures “Kyōrinrin” (2024), inspired by the spirit of knowledge formed from extravagant Buddhist scriptures left unstudied and gathering dust, and “Gobo Obake” (2024), a Burdock Roots gaining consciousness through age, presented at Ryan Lee Gallery’s booth at this year’s Aspen Art fair “I use Japanese mythology as a context,” the artist tells me of the ways her character work intertwines with various spiritual ideologies “My work is not about them...when you’re writing fiction you need to have convincing characters to navigate the ideas and content [but my work is] really all about expanding this imagination in which my characters can exist.” Miki’s endeavor of imaginative expansion is evident in her current project at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art: (Super)Natural: Paul Klee and Masako Miki. The exhibition pairs up 17 Klee drawings from the museum’s collection (personally selected by Miki) with Miki’s own grandiose watercolor landscape “Hyakki Yagyo Night Parade of One Hundred Demons—Beginning of Another Life with Ruby Red Fox Deity” (2021) The painting renders creatures of Japanese folklore marching through the streets of Kyoto at night the ominous disruption of the already blurry boundary between the real world and the supernatural world is transformed into an almost endearingly celebratory observation of colorful dynamism and playful shapes Propelled by the affective power derived from the universally evocative capacity of imagining Miki works expand the original contexts of Japanese folklore and mythology and creatively generate new tales for our turbulent times Having read Klee’s diaries (Klee himself would have called them “creative confessions”) in preparation for (Super)Natural Miki feels particularly compelled by Klee’s insistence on representing what is beneath or beyond the world of visible things: “There are many more latent realities,” Miki says of Klee “I think he’s saying: ‘What we see is one isolated incident that what we chose to believe is the only ultimate reality.’ There’s more than what we see there’s more than what we believe that’s in his creative process—I think he’s trying to reveal something that is not quite happening yet It’s really about imagining something that hasn’t happened yet.” Miki also translates her various characters into sculptures While being a visiting professor at UC Davis Miki became immersed in the intricate process of felting which involves a nearly endless process of needling upon textiles with heat The hands-on and durational approach creates an often-lost intimacy between her and the materials being worked upon Miki’s felted character sculptures thus take on a considered and constantly evolving texture and materiality where the tactile processual conditions of sculpture-making become an investiture of visual pleasure itself “I want my viewers to come closer to the sculptures,” Miki says she succeeds in bridging the gap between subject and object quite often Ancient traditions become alluring symbols of non-human agency that keep spectators hooked Miki’s public sculpture practice—like her larger-than-life bronze sculptures mounted in the campus of San Francisco’s Uber HQ—evoke a different sense of the fantastical in a medium that has traditionally leaned on the side of singularity and closedness of existence The display at Uber HQ is inspired by a common animistic story widely circulated in Japan one in which discarded utilitarian tools that were considered replaceable could potentially become vengefully alive feeling abandoned by their previous owners Neither wanting to create something spatially overpowering to spectators—with the story’s troubling history associated with how oppressive regimes organize didactic relations through manufactured architecture—nor desiring to fall back into the trope of celebrating the technological wonders of human authorship Miki tried to blend the humor of pop art with minimalistic smoothness via a non-hierarchical and collaborative process between Miki and her fabricators:  “Art has the power to transform perspectives and make us question ‘What is this?’ It should be a simple invitation; if it’s too didactic or people feel like they’re not invited How do you involve the community?” She asks it’s crucial that people feel they can be a part of it.They’re not going to be judged by how they look or where they come from Public art projects provide a way for everyone to access and engage with what I consider one of the most important human attributes.. the public domain brings a wider audience to me and it’s important for bringing people together through all different facets of accessibility.” Confronting the question of human empathy—or lack thereof—under advanced capitalism is also of personal significance to Miki When I point out that her sculptures fit into the conventional definitions of “cute,” Miki gives me a crash course on the history of cuteness in Japanese culture which is to feel compassion for the subject of adoration and to delight in the magnificent matter of the living world The word kawaii had its etymological origin in Lady Murasaki’s 11th-century novel The Tale of Genji Murasaki uses the word kawaisō to describe feeling sad or sorry for piteous things it’s not quite the word that I feel affiliated to,” she says “Even though my work has been described as cute Including the complex meaning of the cuteness meaning it’s more about the subject matter in that you feel compassion. You embrace and accept [the works] as they are which is in a very incomplete stage of how things are described It really releases everything of why I make the work that I make The question of empathy takes on another meaning for Miki which is intimately implicated in her personal identity crisis and formation leaving certain cultural traits behind without fully discarding them and absorbing the unfamiliar cultural elements of her new environment—without fully essentializing them as part of her fixed self Navigating such cultural dilemma through art Miki builds a cross-generational affiliation with Isamu Noguchi and Ruth Asawa two Japanese modernist artists who strive to carve out ways of resolving this international struggle—to simultaneously understand oneself empathetically while being understood through the empathy of others—in their own practice She finds herself drawn to Noguchi’s “Play Mountain,” where children are invited to self-direct creative forms of play—poignant reminders that understanding oneself is a non-linear journey and is always already situated in a community “The most important part of being an artist is that we create content for people “I feel that my work has this kind of ambiguity but it’s really about embracing these imaginations The idea of our ability to create fiction and illusion is a powerful tool for us because that’s how we navigate and create a common story that connects us.” I ask Miki what kind of lessons she would like her audience to take away from her art She admits that she hopes that any of these “lessons” are not concrete givens but rather calls for action; calls for creative becoming In a world torn by political despair and ecological catastrophe and new ways of living that acknowledge our interconnectedness—a kind of connectedness that Miki and her audience are equally navigating—are being synthesized Making works at the threshold of what is believable and what is not looser movement of breaking apart dichotomies Written by Qingyuan Deng Stay up-to-date with Japan champion Miki Koyama dominated Ferrari Challenge Japan's season-opening round at Suzuka to take an early championship lead 2023 TCR Japan champion Anna Inotsume stole the spotlight in race one and stood on the podium on Sunday Koyama led from pole at the start from Tadao Uematsu as Anna Inotsume had a slow start and fell to seventh at the end of the opening lap passing "Yamatatsu" at the Hairpin for sixth place in a daring move down the inside It didn't take long for Inotsume to catch Motohiko Isozaki who she would pass on the inside of 130R to get up into fifth place with one third of the race completed Green flag action was soon halted when Cornes Osaka's Masahiro Otsuka crashed at the hairpin bringing out the safety car with 15 minutes left on the clock Once the debris was cleared and Otsuka's car was moved to a safer place on track the safety car came into the pits with five minutes left Koyama had a great launch and was able to keep Uematsu at bay as they headed into the opening section of the track Inotsume also had a great start and immediately began attacking Super Formula Lights veteran Nobuhiro Imada for third Searching for a way past in the final laps of the race Inotsume capitalized on a mistake from Imada on the last lap at the Spoon Curves to put herself alongside the Rosso Scuderia driver as they headed to 130R Exchanging paint all the way down the straight Inotsume completed the pass before 130R to take third with a few corners left and complete a stellar comeback from seventh Miki Koyama led all 14 laps and won the first race of the 2025 season by seven seconds over Super GT veteran Tadao Uematsu while also setting a new track record for Ferrari Challenge cars at Suzuka “The start went well,” Koyama said post-race I focused on maintaining a lead over the second position The team did a great job with tire management The 296 Challenge is easy to drive with great power.” Despite standing on the podium in third place Inotsume was given a post-race penalty for dangerous driving which sent her back to fourth and promoted Imada to third was started behind the safety car as rain hit the track green flag action began and Koyama led from Inotsume as the field navigated the difficult conditions untroubled Cameras soon turned to race one podium finisher Nobuhiro Imada as he went into the pits after his car suffered a mechanical failure Inotsume set the fastest lap of the race while hunting down Koyama for first as behind them Yasutaka Shiraishi overtook John Leo before the hairpin to move up into P22 As Shiraishi began to rapidly ascend through the field Tsutomu Shimoyama overtook Ryutaro Saito around the outside of the esses to take P11 in the closing stages Norikazu Shibata suffered a left-rear puncture while running tenth and pulled off the racing surface to retire from the race Miki Koyama remained unchallenged and won race two after leading from start to finish Anna Inotsume was able to beat Koyama's fastest lap to take second ahead of Tadao Uematsu “I achieved consecutive pole-to-win victories in Race 2,” Koyama said post-race “Although it was my first time in wet conditions and I was a bit worried the track at Suzuka Circuit surprisingly offered a lot of grip I initially increased my pace to widen the gap and then drove safely for the rest of the race.” It was a breakthrough weekend for both Koyama and Inotsume who both showed their full potential at the home of the Japanese GP with Koyama leading from start to finish both races as Inotsume showed strong page on track to step on the podium twice
