I am probably not the right person to be writing these posts anymore
what do you carry around all day—has now turned into a post of largely rinse and repeat
Here’s what I’m using to cover the 2025 PCA Convention & Trade Show and here’s why
I am an editor and co-founder of halfwheel.com/Rueda Media
I previously co-founded and published TheCigarFeed
I have written about the cigar industry for more than a decade
covering everything from product launches to regulation to M&A
I handle a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff here at halfwheel
wearing sweatshirts year-round and eating gyros

we made some minor changes to our PCA 2025 coverage
which included having each of the four writers answer the question
“what’s the coolest thing you saw today?” on a daily basis
we’re still going to do Top Three Things and
you are going to get three mostly different answers
One change we’ve made to this year’s version of Top Three Things is that the trio needs to be things that you can buy
I approached this as: if I could have just three new items from the show
I probably visited fewer than half the booths at the trade show
meaning that some companies didn’t have a shot at making this post
But all three things listed here I saw with my own eyes
Between just the Don Carlos lineage and the packaging
and then takes it out and puts a Dominican corojo-seed wrapper over the normal Cameroon wrapper
It goes back to the aging room for another year and then it will get released
told me that he had the idea because the original Don Carlos blend was made with a corojo-seed wrapper from Jalapa
the Fuente factory in Estelí was burned down
the company built a new factory in the Dominican Republic and swapped the Don Carlos’ corojo wrapper from Oliva Tobacco Co
This was the only new cigar I smoked at the show and I found it to be sweeter than the typical Don Carlos
It will have an MSRP of $13 and is expected to arrive this summer
2. Eiroa Aviator Series
created this project without his father’s knowledge
but this product is on this list for the packaging
Those briefcases on the right each hold 22 cigars
and they are designed to look like a briefcase once owned by Christian’s grandfather
which will be placed inside of one of these $20,000 trunks that each hold eight briefcases
but there’s so much wood and leather used
I could smell the trunk from a couple of yards away
Considering that I had to wash my clothes twice to get rid of the smoke smell
I cannot tell you how impressive the aroma was
One other tidbit: the cigars are packaged in the briefcase on a tray that holds 11 cigars
Above is what the underside of the tray looks like
3. Plasencia Alma del Cielo
Plasencia and Davidoff are the only two companies to put multiple cigars on our Top 25 lists in both 2023 and 2024
the company is making very good new cigars
Almal del Cielo is the newest blend from Plasencia and it uses tobacco from the company’s highest farm
located 3,500 feet above sea level in Condega
so it’s not a huge difference on paper
Plasencia says the elevation means the tobacco is unique
2025) — The original version of this post said there would be 1,760 Aviator Series cigars
meaning that they are only going to come in one of the five trunks
