watching as Nirei regains consciousness while Tsugeura carries him
the other first-year class 1 students also begin to speak
Kaji reveals a mysterious and deep expression toward the KEEL group
An intense battle isn’t complete without an exposition-filled aftermath to tie it all together
the show is known for its hard-hitting violence
its heart hits harder than any punch or kick the characters throw at its viewers
as its first act showcases Nagato’s journey to joining a ruthless team like KEEL
Nagato hoped to get stronger by joining Natori’s team
not knowing the group’s heinous and violent nature
his other reason was that he was inspired by Anzai
who stood his ground in protecting him from a group of thugs during their childhood
Although Nagato felt guilty for bringing Furin into the fight
was again quick to forgive his actions over a pleasant after-battle dinner
Nagato wasn’t the only person struggling with guilt
as Sakura was upset about his stubbornness
This moment showcases Sakura’s growth in expressing his mental health and guilt to his new friends
“Re:Start” isn’t about starting over as the title suggested
It reflects forgiveness and strength originating from the heart and trusted relationships
Much like some of the earlier episodes in season one
the episode further proves that the show’s character moments are just as strong as a person’s fists
I again feel touched by the show’s emotional grasp
their celebration might get cut short soon thanks to the mysterious tattooed man who posed as a KEEL member
Could we be looking at a foe more formidable than KEEL’s ruthless leader

Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs

Hawick-based artist and folk musician Miwa Nagato-Apthorp is gearing up to release her debut EP Noren on 2 May via Alchemy Film & Arts
Named after a type of Japanese fabric divider
Noren looks to Nagato-Apthorp’s dual Japanese and Scottish heritage for inspiration
Working alongside fellow musicians Inge Thomson
Noren is rich in storytelling and a truly captivating listen from start to end
The resultant product of an Alchemy Film & Arts musician-in-residence scheme
it’s fitting that Noren will be celebrated with a launch show at their annual Alchemy Film & Moving Image festival in Hawick this weekend
We catch up with Nagato-Apthorp to find out more
Hawthorn Song by Miwa Nagato-Apthorp
can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to get into music? When my family moved to the Borders I attended a rural primary school where I first encountered Scots language in song during workshops led by Susie Kelly and Elsa Lamaitre
The Twa Corbies stayed with me; it has a haunting melody and very morbid lyrics
it seemed to me that it sprung straight from the land itself
My parents are music lovers and were very encouraging of my love of singing
I had music lessons locally and spent a lot of my teenage years singing with friends
In 2022 I applied for a residency with Alchemy Film & Arts as part of a project centred around local histories and ecologies
It was an extremely supportive environment where my songwriting was nurtured and there was a natural progression from writing one song
You’re about to release your debut EP which beautifully brings together your Scottish and Japanese heritage
that you’ve found between Scottish and Japanese folk traditions?Something I love about folk music is that if you delve far enough back into many traditions
you’ll find that people are making the same sounds and talking about the same things
the rich world of Japanese folk music is something which I’ve only recently begun researching
The instruments and tonalities are completely different and I’ve only skimmed the surface
I have been dipping my toe in by learning songs in Japanese which has been a beautiful way to connect with my heritage
What was it like exploring these different traditions to create your EP?During the process of putting Noren together it became clear that the Japan/Scotland connection was coming to the forefront – because of my explorations of both Japanese and Scottish histories
it’s very healing to bring these worlds together
I’d love to know more about the stories behind the songs on the record – what can you tell us about each of the tracks, and why did you want to explore these histories in song? The Bonded One is a ballad which tells the story of the Bondagers – women agricultural workers who lived and worked in the Scottish Borders
Despite growing up in the Borders I had never heard their story and decided to write a song imagining their perspectives on their lives and work
Abigail was born out of a co-writing session with my pal Matthew Hickman of brownbear
Matt came up with a beautiful guitar part from which a melody naturally developed
I revisited it a while later and the whole song came out
It's a song about grief but there’s sweetness and joy in it too
I learned that the town of Hawick got its name from the Hawthorn Tree
Hawthorn Song came about because I was interested to experiment with oral tradition and how songs adapt as they travel
We conducted a fast-forwarded oral tradition exercise where the song was learned and taught on by various local singers and musicians before being passed back to me
It came back sounding very different and with a new verse
On a visit to Japan in 2022 I spent some time on Hiroshima Island with family friends
They took us to see the grave of a British sailor
who died in 1868 aboard a British naval vessel anchored in the Inland Sea
His body was brought onto the Island and interred before the rest of the crew continued their journey
The people of Hiroshima Island have been tending his grave ever since
I was moved by the story and knew that it needed to be a song but it wasn’t until 2024 that I felt able to write it
We were experiencing a horrific period of fascist rioting UK-wide
It was a terrifying time for People of Colour
It felt like the time to tell a story about a community who have honoured and tended to the memory of a “foreigner” for almost 200 years
The Ballad of Frank Toovey Lake was co-written with my mum
who contemplated the story and wrote a poem in Japanese which forms the refrain of the song – I feel that there’s a potent energy to what she wrote and I loved collaborating with her
I did a wonderful School of Song course taught by Adrianne Lenker; we had songwriting homework and one week I sat down to write and Silver Fish just poured out
Its meaning is still slightly mysterious to me but I think it’s in part about inspiration and being open to the importance of things
Image: Miwa Nagato-Apthorp by Sanne Gault for Alchemy Film & Arts
And can you tell us more about Japanese folk song of resistance Takeda no Komoriuta and why you choose to include your own rendition as part of the EP?Takeda no Komoriuta stunned me the first time I heard it
It’s the lament of a girl who is taken from her home to be the childminder for a wealthy family over the mountain
She talks about missing traditional festivals and her family
After performing it at Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival 2023 it became an important part of my live sets and was a natural choice for the final track of the EP
Non-Japanese speakers often approach me after gigs and ask if the song is about homesickness
The meaning of the song seems to reach people even if they don’t understand the lyrics
I think of the Palestinian people and their struggle for liberation under occupation and genocide
It’s a song about the heartbreak of being removed from your home
On the record you work alongside a select group of talented musicians bringing a lived-in warmth to the record – what was the writing and recording process like with these other artists and how do you feel they enriched the project?Working with Inge Thomson (producer) was a beautiful experience
She understood the songs completely and helped them to find their best expression through sensitive and interesting arrangements
mixing) had a very generous way of sharing their expertise
The music of Aiko Shimada (vocals) was a formative part of my exploration into Japanese folk music; I was humbled when she agreed to bring her voice to Noren
The whole EP project was expertly produced by Zuzana Fryntová and the rest of the team at Alchemy Film & Arts
When I listen to Noren I hear the joy of all of those collaborations
You’re launching your EP with a special performance as part of Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival on 2 May – what can people expect on the night?I’m so excited to launch the record at Alchemy
and Seán Dowd joining me to perform some tracks from the record ahead of the annual Alchemy Ceilidh
The whole festival has an energy of solidarity
community and care and I feel very privileged to be a part of it
what does the rest of the year look like for you?A couple of gigs that I’m particularly looking forward to are Edinburgh Tradfest on 11 May with the wonderful Parsisonic and Dlù

Among all the enemies that Naruto faces in his journey to becoming Hokage
few are as powerful and intimidating as Pain
The fellow student of Jiraiya serves as a dark reflection of what Naruto could have become if he had grown up in a time of war rather than a time of peace
But the faces we most often see aren’t the real Pain – they’re puppets being used by someone else
Who is Pain and what makes him one of the deadliest opponents Naruto ever faced? Spoilers for both the Naruto manga and anime lie ahead as we delve deeper into this fascinating but sometimes confusing character
who was a war orphan taken in by Jiraiya before the Naruto manga began
Nagato was brought into Madara Uchiha’s plans at a young age when the legendary ninja implanted his two Rinnegan eyes into Nagato
giving him access to the most powerful and sought-after ocular jutsu in the Naruto setting
After his parents were inadvertently killed by Konoha ninja during the Second Shinobi World War
Nagato used the Rinnegan to exact revenge on their killers
Nagato eventually fell in with other war orphans
who offered to teach them ninjutsu after he noticed Nagato’s eyes
believing the young man was the reincarnation of the Sage of Six Paths who would usher in a world of peace
the orphans would form the original Akatsuki organization
which was intended to be an advocate for peace
Each of the Six Paths of Pain was created by embedding a black receiver into the body, allowing Nagato to use his chakra to control them. Because of Nagato’s incredible control of the technique, he can control these figures from a great distance.
There is also a seventh path, called the Outer Path, that allows the user to control both life and death. This is the path that Nagato originally used to create his puppets.
As formidable as the Six Paths of Pain are, they are just the start of Nagato’s incredible power. From his Uzumaki bloodline he has inherited an incredible amount of chakra; enough to perform multiple, powerful techniques in a single day. He also was trained by Jiraiya himself, meaning that he has learned many of the famous ninja’s abilities. Before his legs were damaged, Nagato was a formidable fighter who had mastered most physical combat techniques.
However, it is his Rinnegan eyes that make Nagato and Pain so dangerous. With them, he can see the flow of a person’s chakra clearly and can master almost any technique after seeing it only once. Though he was not the original owner of the eyes, he made more effective use of them than anyone save for Madara Uchiha. It is considered the most powerful and rare of the ocular jutsu in Naruto.
Using the Six Paths of Pain as well as his other abilities, Nagato was able to not only fight legendary ninja like Jiraiya and Kakashi but was able to destroy the entire village of Konoha single-handedly.
Beyond the threat he poses to the characters, he also serves as a dark reflection of Naruto himself. Both were orphans who aspired to greatness, sharing a teacher in Jiraiya. However, where Naruto grew up isolated but in a peaceful village, Nagato faced the horrors of war and had his family taken from him as a result, making him a grim reminder of how it isn’t just those who fight in battle who suffer the effects of war.

Essentially, all that is known about Nagato Iwasaki and his work is as follows. The man draws, paints, and tries his hand at digital art. His first exhibition was held in 1983 and he has since exhibited work in Japan, particularly in Tokyo, and also in Germany. During the 1996 Florence Biennale, he collaborated with couturier Yohji Yamamoto
His work has been recognised on two occasions: in 1994
Nagato Iwasaki received the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum Awards Grand Prize and the Special July Prize Kirin Plaza Osaka
There is no indication as to his date of birth, education at school or university, and no details of his work appear on his website, not even a photo. His Facebook page offers a few further clues: he works in a studio where the pieces wait to adopt the shape of an arm or a leg

One year and a month after talent agency Johnny & Associates Inc
acknowledged the sexual abuse allegations against its founder
survivors are demanding further action and assistance be given
former members of the agency spoke out against the lack of sufficient support for victims
calling for a more thorough investigation and comprehensive measures to prevent a recurrence
“I feel that the issue of sexual abuse by Johnny Kitagawa is gradually fading from public memory,” said Yasunobu Shiga
a former member of the 1990s boy band Ninja
“I continue to speak out because I don't want children to experience the same pain and suffering that I did.”

died in 2019 at age 87 without facing criminal charges for his actions
Shiga criticized Smile-Up for not holding a news conference on the issue for a year
saying the company should not assume that the matter is resolved simply because it paid compensation to survivors
He also shared that he has been merely surviving and enduring hardships over the past year
having faced online harassment and bullying since going public with his claim
echoed Shiga’s concern about the scandal being forgotten
‘We’ve had enough of this,’ or ‘Are they still complaining?’ but I keep on protesting because I want the Japanese people to be able to say what is wrong is wrong,” Nagato said
criticized authorities for their inaction regarding separate sexual abuse allegations involving the agency’s employees
is the co-founder of “1 is 2 many,” a group dedicated to combating sexual violence against children
He emphasized that Smile-Up should acknowledge its social responsibilities and work to regain public trust by using its influence to raise awareness about sexual abuse
Other victims sent messages to be read at the news conference
including the wife of a former Johnny’s member who took his own life a year ago after becoming the target of cruel online abuse
“The agency seems to pretend to care about the victims while being busy protecting itself from the scandal,” said the woman
“They’ve never contacted me for a discussion or an apology—nothing.”
She stated that her husband found the courage to come forward after years of suffering from the trauma of sexual abuse
stigma and other forms of secondary victimization
As the first anniversary of her husband’s death approaches

The Japanese flag which flew on the flagship Nagato during the attack on Pearl Harbor was sold at an auction for £32,000
The Nagato was the flagship for the attack and the ship which received the signal
Torra,” which indicated that the attack had been a complete surprise to the Americans
Over 2,400 Americans were killed during the attack which led to the US joining the Allies in World War II
the Allies captured the 8 foot by 13 foot flag
It was brought back to the US and given to Richard Brundo
Brundo retained the flag until he died in 2016
The flag was sold by a relative through Heritage Auctions
It was expected to sell for £10,000 but a bidding war raised the price to $40,000
The flag was Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto’s rank flag
Yamamoto was the commander-in-chief of the Japanese navy
It was on the Nagato that Yamamoto gave the famous command
“Niitaka yama nobore (Climb Mount Niitaka).” The coded command signaled the beginning of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7
That attack began just before 8am with hundreds of Japanese fighter planes suddenly attacked the base
More than 300 airplanes were also damaged or destroyed
Over 2,400 Americans in total were killed in the attack
Roosevelt formerly asked Congress to declare war on Japan
Though the actual attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise to the Americans
the two countries had been heading towards conflict for decades
The Japanese believed that the only way they could fix the problems with their economy and other issues they were facing was to grow their country by taking over Chinese territories and China’s import market
They declared war on China which led to atrocities like the Nanking Massacre
This attitude of Japan towards China was not embraced by the American government who responded with economic sanctions and trade embargoes
The US hoped that limiting Japan’s access to money and goods would convince it to stop its aggression against its neighbors
Months of negotiations failed to bring the two sides any closer to an agreement
Though surprised that they attacked Pearl Harbor
the American intelligence community was expecting an attack from Japan
They just expected it to occur in the South Pacific – the Dutch East Indies
Since the Americans did not expect an attack so close to home
they had few defenses in place while nearly the entire Pacific Fleet was moored around Ford Island in Pearl Harbor with hundreds of airplanes sitting on the nearby airfields
This made Pearl Harbor an easy target the Japanese could not resist
Mystery of LCT That Vanished 77 Years ago With 14 Crew on Board Solved
shipyards and submarine docks all escaped the attack relatively unscathed
the US was able to recover quickly from the attack

Former Johnny & Associates member Koji Nagato clearly remembers Johnny Kitagawa's stern voice over the phone after he rejected his sexual advance in a hotel room
“You were rude,” the entertainment agency founder said
said many of those who had been sexually abused by the late founder dared not speak out due to their fear of losing the chance to debut in retaliation
The call came after Nagato escaped from abuse by Kitagawa in the autumn of 2000 when the junior was in his fourth year at the talent agency
Nagato was staying in a hotel and preparing to perform in a TV show the next morning
Kitagawa offered to give Nagato a massage and told him to lie down on the bed
Nagato had maintained his distance from Kitagawa since he was sexually abused by him shortly after joining the agency
Nagato thought he would get a job if he accepted the abuse
but he questioned whether he could continue to endure it
he told himself that this would be the last time he would put up with it
Nagato pushed Kitagawa away and ran out of the room while wearing pajamas
He walked for three to four hours in his slippers to home
The angry phone call came just after the incident
Nagato continued attending lessons for about a month
But gigs or assignments never came his way again
He thought the agency treated him coldly and unfairly because he rejected Kitagawa
Nagato ended up leaving Johnny & Associates
“I thought the agency treated me unfairly but other Johnny’s Jr
members around me were enduring it,” Nagato said
“I blamed myself for not being able to accept the abuse.”
A third-party investigative panel concluded in late August that “at least hundreds of juniors were abused” by Kitagawa
who died in 2019 at age 87 without being held accountable for his actions
Not many of those former juniors have told their stories amid the lingering scandal
Those who have gone public said they felt uncomfortable and repelled by Kitagawa's abuse
while many expressed gratitude toward the agency founder
who came forward and allowed his real name to be used
my life changed,” he said at a news conference held at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan in April
who claimed he was sexually abused at age 13
Why do victims express “gratitude” to their abuser
deputy head at the Hyogo Institute for Traumatic Stress and a psychiatrist
“It is not uncommon for people who were sexually abused to have positive feelings toward their abusers.”
This can occur even in cases of abuse by parents
“Kitagawa wanted to promote juniors and the boys wanted to become successful
Their motivations all were aligned,” Kameoka said
“In the context of a community with a shared destiny
actions by someone with overwhelming power are often seen as necessary and justified for success,” she said
Kitagawa was the domineering authority figure who made all decisions from recruiting to debuting and producing
a professor at Hyogo University of Teacher Education who specializes in clinical services for child abuse response
“‘Gratitude’ may be one of their defensive reactions to maintain their self-esteem and distance themselves from the fact that they were sexually abused.”
Males are inherently less likely to admit being sexually abused and report it
The fear of retaliation and feelings of gratitude toward the powerful figure made it even more difficult for Johnny's Jr
you don’t want to tell other people about it
I think my feelings (for Kitagawa) are similar to this,” he said
“I was sexually abused by the person who raised me
But that does not mean all the gratitude I’ve had disappears,” he said
“If I held a grudge about everything (Kitagawa did)
I want to separate the two things for my own sake.”
The third-party panel said that these relationships were the result of being entangled in a clever “trap” set by Kitagawa within the power structure to take advantage of his position of authority
a sexual abuser’s actions should not be tolerated and cannot be forgiven,” Kameoka said
