Kawajiri is one of the top featherweights in the world and has an outstanding record of 31-7-2 with his only recent losses coming at the hands of Gilbert Melendez, Shinya Aoki and Eddie Alvarez
Omigawa's record dropped to 13-12-1 after his disappointing second UFC spell

and we’ll see what happens.” - Chad Mendes
a development that Mendes has been and will be watching closely.“We’re getting a lot of great talent coming down from ’55 now that ’45 has been thrown into the mix in the UFC and a lot of these guys that had names for themselves at ’55 that maybe were a little small for the weight now have a chance to come down and showcase their skills at ’45,” he said
“But I don’t think that’s always the best thing to do
Just because you’re cutting a lot of weight and going down to the next weight class doesn’t always mean you’re gonna do better
that will actually hurt them.” Not to mention that the existing contenders at 145
have something to prove against veteran fighters who have already made their names in the organization.“It almost feels a little disrespectful,” said Mendes
“These guys may be thinking it’s going to be a little easier coming down
but I think it’s going to be a rude awakening for them
and we’ll see what happens.”Just before he turns 26 on May 1st though
Mendes will be kicking off his birthday celebration a day early
as he will be Octagonside for the Aldo-Hominick bout at Rogers Centre
And he’ll be more than a fan that night.“I’m real excited to see this fight,” he said
but I think Aldo’s gonna be a little too devastating for Hominick
Hominick likes to walk his opponents down and he doesn’t really use quick footwork to get out
so I think Aldo’s leg kicks are gonna tear that front leg up
But you never know – one punch and anything can change
so I’m super pumped to see what’s gonna happen.”More importantly
he’s pumped to see what’s going to happen in his own career once either Aldo or Hominick has his hand raised
That waiting has been the toughest part for him
and he’s ready for the next phone call to let him know what his immediate future holds.“I’m looking at both of them (Aldo and Hominick)
finding their weaknesses and taking them apart,” he said
“Hopefully I’ll get the call.”When he does
he’ll be ready.“I feel like I’m the best one at 145 and I’m definitely gunning to get that belt.”

Massenzio ducks under a Soszynski punch and gets the double-leg
Soszynski is doing more feinting than punching right now
Soszynski backs Massenzio against the cage and throws
making sure that size advantage comes in handy against a guy who weighed in at only 203
but Massenzio times it well and puts him down
Massenzio just can't keep the bigger man down
Good left hand by Soszynski stuns Massenzio in the final thirty seconds
but Soszynski sprawls out well before the round ends
MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Soszynski.Round 2: No surprise
Massenzio is right back to looking for the takedown early in the round
His rate of success with them isn't bad so far
but even when he gets Soszynski down he can't keep him there for more than a few seconds
Soszynski stops this one and does a little work on Massenzio's body
but Massenzio seems content to get wrist control and stall for now
Massenzio looks to be cut above his right eye
The takedown attempts are coming like clockwork
but Soszynski stops two in a row without much trouble
Another takedown attempt from Massenzio and Soszynski tries a nifty little stepover to get out of trouble
but Massenzio keeps him pinned against the fence
Yet another Massenzio takedown attempt is stuffed
and Soszynski stings him with a nice 1-2 in the final ten seconds
The round ends with -- you guessed it -- a failed takedown attempt by Massenzio
MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Soszynski
Round 3: Massenzio's takedown campaign continues in the third
but Soszynski is getting better at stuffing them
then gets top position in Massenzio's guard
Massenzio rolls to his knees and controls one wrist
content to let Soszynski elbow away at his ribs
Soszynski goes to work with some knees to the body
Massenzio is motionless as his corner implores him to "dig deep" and "get your a-- up." Carrying the bigger man's weight -- plus all the energy expended shooting for one takedown after another -- seems to have left him spent
Soszynski tries for a choke and gives up his position
and that's time enough for three more failed takedown attempts from Massenzio
MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Soszynski.Krzysztof Soszynski def

A featherweight fracas has been added to the UFC on Fox 4: "Stann vs. Lombard" event on Aug. 4, 2012, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, as the struggling Manny Gamburyan will take on Michihiro Omigawa
MMAFighting.com brought word of the pending bout last night
Gamburyan is likely on his last legs with the world's largest fight promotion
as he's lost both of his two fights since rejoining the UFC
dating back to his previous run with the promotion
"The Anvil" has won inside the Octagon in four fights
He'll try to turn the tide against Omigawa
who has struggled nearly as bad losing three of his last four
There's a widely panned decision in there that didn't go his way but a loss is a loss is a loss

UFC 138: "Leben vs
Munoz" was recently announced for the promotion's return trip to the United Kingdom (UK) for the LG Arena at the National Exhibition Centre on Nov
And what would a UK fight card be without a couple of Brits there to represent it
After assembling a five-fight win streak on the Japanese circuit
Omigawa (12-10-1) is in dire need of a win after falling into an 0-2 hole following his Zuffa return earlier this year
Young (8-4) was also unsuccessful his last time out, getting knocked around by Dustin Poirier en route to a unanimous decision loss at UFC 131 in his Octagon debut just last month
Expect a sense of urgency from both combatants come fight night
Also getting his feet wet across the pond is Terry Etim (14-3), who returns to the cage after suffering a submission loss to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 112 way back in April 2010
His defeat to the Brazilain jiu-jitsu wizard snapped a four-fight win streak
Opposing him is Edward Faaloloto (2-2), whose UFC career is on life support after dropping a pair of bouts to Anthony Njokuani and Michael Johnson
UFC 138, recently announced for the promotion's sole trip to the United Kingdom this year, will be headlined by the very first five-round non-title fight with a middleweight match-up pitting division hopefuls Chris Leben and Mark Munoz in what should be a violent war of attrition
In addition, Thiago Alves will make his return to action against Swedish newcomer Papy Abedi in welterweight action

spoke to MMAMania about last weekend's S-Cup Shootboxing event in Japan
where his TKO victory over Michihiro Omigawa was overturned to a 'no contest.' The controversial decision eliminated him from the eight-man tournament
the "Land of the Rising Sun" and the country of controversial officiating and promoter interference
It has often been a common theme for Americans fighting overseas for foreign promotions
that if they don't knock their opponent out
Especially in the kickboxing/Muay Thai branch of combat sports
an event put on by the Shootboxing promotion
Kevin Ross was living proof of that maxim and a controversial decision cost him a chance at advancing to the semifinals of the tournament
Ross, 34, was part of the 65kg eight-man tournament, along with Hiroaki Suzuki
"The Soul Assassin" drew Omigawa in the quarterfinal match up of the tournament
Ross and the former UFC featherweight collided heads in the first round
Omigawa received quite a bit of attention to halt the bleeding
while he was punished for the accidental clash of heads
who is the welterweight champion for the Lion Fight promotion in America
"That is what opened the huge gash over his eye
They take him over to the doctors and try to stop the bleeding for quite a long time
They finally get it stopped and then they end up give me a red card for it
I've fought overseas plenty of times and I've been on the bad side of those kinds of things
"A red card is for an intentional foul and that is an automatic point
yet they took a point away from me as if I went out of my way and smashed my head into him
The fight would continue and when they reached the second round
the laceration about Omigawa's eye was visibly diminishing with each blow that Ross was landing
The cut began to start gushing out blood and the fight was stopped once again
They announced Ross as the winner by technical knockout and awarded him the winning trophy for that round
WIth super fights taking place in between tournament fights
Ross and his corner Chaz Mulkey were trying to find out how much time they had before the semifinal round so they could plan accordingly
"We knew there were super fights in between," Ross said
"We didn't know if it would be a half hour or an hour
What should we do here?' He's talking to them and then he goes out to talk to some of the officials so we can figure out how much time we have in between
He comes back to me and says the promoter or whoever was in charge ended up going in the back after all that happened and he overturned the decision and made it a no contest
which means I wasn't able to advance to the next round and whoever won the super fight
they were going to put in my place for the second round of the tournament."
Ross was out and the winner of the tournament reserve fight
Zouggari defeated Bovy Sor Udomson by technical knockout in the second round
‘if one of them gets hurt and we need to use you we will.' At that point I was like ‘no
I'm putting my stuff on and I'm going to go and watch,'" said Ross
who added that they were likely none too happy that he actually defeated Omigawa
Mulkey wanted to argue after they learned of the decision to overturn the victory to a no contest
but he felt it would go nowhere and just fall on deaf ears
in a tone suggesting it was a no-win situation
I knew I would have to knock him out in order to win
I knew I wasn't going to win a decision no matter how it went
I'm sure they would've found a way to disqualify me or fix it in some manner
Everyone else was really mad and pissed off about it
Ross mentioned the "other fights," as if there was something funny going on and Liverkick.com reported that some other shadiness took place in the semifinals and in the tournament final
Amrani was robbed of a decision against Suzuki
who by the way was last year's winner and this year's favorite to win the S-Cup
The tournament reserve winner who replaced Ross
apparently had the fight won after three rounds
making it seem as if they would keep going until the fighter they wanted to win it actually won it and Suzuki finally prevailed by technical knockout
Ross is planning on fighting before the end of 2014
"Huggy Bear" as he is also affectionately called by his buddies
said he spoke to Omigawa later on that night and the Japanese fighter was very respectful and honorable
"When we did a big group shot in the ring after the whole event was over he was thanking me for the fight and he was apologetic," Ross explained
All the fighters were amazing and respectful
It's just part of -- even more so than other than other places -- the Japanese culture and their promotions are known for doing stuff like that."
Despite the controversial decision to overturn his win over Omigawa into a no contest
Ross is taking it all in stride and surprisingly holds no ill will toward Shootboxing whatsoever and seems to have made his peace with the entire situation and is moving forward with his career
It truly says a lot about his character and where he is at mentally
"They were cool," Ross said about Shootboxing
"They said how much they wanted me back and how much all the fans loved me over there and how they liked my style and how they wanted to see more of it
I'm not going to go out of my way to look to do it
when I have nothing else going on at the time
I'm more than happy to do this as opposed to an MMA fight or something

If anyone was looking for proof that cage-side monitors were not the answer to outbreaks of controversial scoring, I present to you UFC 131: "Dos Santos vs
Carwin" from the Rogers Arena last Saturday night (June 11) in Vancouver
The promotion's trip to "Hollywood North" had a handful of questionable decisions, including but not limited to the featherweight scrap between Darren Elkins and Michihiro Omigawa featured on the live Facebook stream of the event's preliminary card
Elkins was awarded the unanimous decision win
That sent UFC President Dana White into a rage, prompting him to sympathetically award Omigawa his win bonus and torch the judges for their perceived incompetence (via Heavy.com):
It's just getting to the point now where when you see something that's that blatantly wrong..
the hard part for me is you're affecting people's lives
what people are pissed off about is the fighters
we even have television monitors in front of these f*cking guys now
You're watching a television monitor and you still come up with a 30-27 in these fights
You should never judge another fight as long as you live
You don't deserve to be in the fight business
you're hurting these f*cking guys that are out training and working hard
Jonathan Tweedale, the Commissioner for the Vancouver Athletic Commission, explains to Luke Thomas of SBNation.com that round two was "challenging" to score and that an "argument can be made in favor of either fighter."
"If there is any controversy as to the outcome of the fight it must be because of the second round
That was a very challenging round to score
An argument can be made in favour of either fighter
he was stopped dead in his tracks by Elkins' combination punches
and at another point he was slightly buckled
Due to Omigawa's unusual stance and balance
it was difficult to tell exactly whether he was rocked by some of these shots
and the control shift to Elkins as he landed the combo
as well as the total effective strikes landed
could reasonably warrant awarding the round to Elkins
(The FightMetric numbers agree.) As to the blood - it represents something
but a cut can be caused by a glancing blow and some fighters just cut more readily than others."
It's difficult to avoid the mob mentality that frequently accompanies bad decisions
but whose side are you taking in this debate
Or was the fight close enough to make an argument for either fighter
Let's hear your take on the decision for "Elkins vs

The boxing skills of even the average mixed martial arts fighter have come a long way since the early days of the sport
Nowadays you would be hard to find one mixed martial artist who doesn't focus on the boxing aspect
Many boxers have bad mouthed the hands of a mixed martial arts fighter
but I believe if these mixed martial arts fighters decided to only focus on boxing
they could potentially make a name for themselves
I believe you could theoretically put almost any of these fighters in any order
These are the top 10 boxers I believe that could make the transition from mixed martial arts to making potentially noise in the world of boxing
Omigawa looks more and more like a boxer with every fight he's had
Omigawa's record is incredibly deceiving
If you doubt the boxing skills of Omigawa than look no further than the video above as he dominated the dangerous striker and DREAM featherweight grand prix runner-up Hiroyuki Takaya
WEC bantamweight champion Domick Cruz I believe could make a successful transition into boxing
Cruz has unorthodox footwork mixed with speed and accuracy that has puzzled many of his opponents
While Cruz has very few knockouts on his record
he is incredibly elusive and has tired many of his opponents out just by how mobile he is
Conor HeunThis will not come as a shock to many fans of the sport
Noons made the list as he already has shown some tremendous hands in the sport of mixed martial arts
In the sport of MMA, Noons has managed won 8 of his 10 fights by way of knock out.
After taking a two-year hiatus from the sport of mixed martial arts, Noons has looked solid coming back into the sport but there are those who wonder just how far he'd get as a boxer if he faced stiffer competition.
Gegard Mousasi4 of 10"The Dreamcatcher" Gegard Mousasi has shown a wide arrange of skills in the mixed martial arts world
Before entering the world of mixed martial arts
Mousasi won an amateur boxing title in the Netherlands at the tender age of 16
I believe one of Mousasi's sharpest displays of boxing came at K-1 Dynamite 2008
when he utilized sharp hand combinations to take out the former heavyweight Muay Thai champion and two-time K-1 World Grand Prix Finalist Musashi
The twin brother of former UFC and Pride heavyweight champion Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has showcased some great boxing skills in the light heavyweight division
Nogueira is not only a sharp boxer in the sport of mixed martial arts
but he has placed third in the super heavyweight division in the Pan American games
While Nogueira has only had 5 knock outs in his mixed martial arts career
he has shown crisp combinations and the ability to slip punches
Many fans believe that if Nogueira made the permanent move to boxing that he could fair well and certainly has the background to do so
At #5 is Team Black House fighter Junior Dos Santos
Many spectators and even professional mixed martial arts fighters have said that Junior Dos Santos has the best hands in the heavyweight division
Santos has incredibly speed for a heavyweight and has big knock out power as evident by being the only man to have knocked out the always tough Fabricio Werdum
Nick Diaz I believe is arguably one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the sport of mixed martial arts
Originally known as just a submission fighter
Nick Diaz quickly erased that monicker by knocking out former Elite XC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler
Almost nobody else in the sport other than Chael Sonnen throws as many punches as one Nick Diaz and can keep the pace of a fight at a high level from bell to bell
While Diaz isn't a huge one-punch knockout style fighter
the accumulation of strikes over the duration of a fight has broken the wills of many of Diaz's opponents
Longtime boxing trainer Freddie Roach once said how B.J
Penn has the best boxing in MMA and has said he's one of the best strikers he has ever worked with
Penn originally started as primarily a grappler but has since transformed into a great striker
Penn in the past has shown some of the best boxing in the sport
Perhaps one of Penn's most brilliant displays of boxing is when he outclassed former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk on the feet
Known as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport
some people maybe surprised why Anderson isn't #1 on the list
But I personally have him ranked below Vitor Belfort due to his performance against Chael Sonnen and Vitor's overall boxing skills
"The Spider" Anderson Silva throughout much of his career has shown a freaky way of avoiding strikes and landing devastatingly accurate punches on the feet
Many people believe that Silva's style would translate to boxing well
and some critics even believe that if Silva focused primarily on boxing he could hang with some of the best
in the world of mixed martial arts there hasn't been many fighters at all that have shown the skills Silva has on the feet
At #1 is Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort
While Belfort has had inconsistent performances in the past
nobody can deny that when the fight stays standing that Belfort has shown tremendous hands
Belfort has been one of the top mixed martial arts fighters in the world for some time now
In the world of mixed martial arts there have been very few people who could throw hands like one Vitor Belfort
It seems that in the last few years Belfort has finally reached his potential after knocking out such greats as Rich Franklin and Matt Lindland almost effortlessly
Everyone has been salivating for an Anderson Silva vs
Vitor Belfort to truly see who is the #1 striker in the middleweight division and possibly the world
but fans will have to wait as Silva rematches Chael Sonnen and Belfort takes on Yushin Oakmi
Chiaki Omigawa, voice actress of Soul Eater's Maka, confirmed on her “Yurutto Fuwatto” (Lax & Fluffy) radio program on Thursday that an anime adaptation of Atsushi Ohkubo's Soul Eater Not! manga has been green-lit
The voice actress did not reveal anything else about the anime
"I think lots of people have already heard about this..."
The Internet domain name souleaternot.tv was registered under Kadokawa Corporation's name on October 18. The December issue of Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine revealed on Tuesday that an “important announcement” for Atsushi Ohkubo's Soul Eater Not
spinoff manga will be published in the magazine's January issue on December 12
The Soul Eater Not! manga returned from hiatus last month after the main Soul Eater manga ended in the magazine in August. It launched in 2011, and Yen Press is publishing both the Soul Eater and Soul Eater Not

National Report
a former Ground Self-Defense Force member whose reports about being sexually abused by colleagues led to a national scandal
is moving on with her life as a judo instructor here
Relieve your stress and go home feeling better,” Gonoi
said at a trial lesson she held for judo beginners
joined the event at Omigawa dojo in Yokohama’s Aoba Ward on Feb
like “osoto-gari” (major outer reap) and her specialty
“You are all very good,” she applauded the participants
Gonoi was unsure if she should hold the event until the day before
Gonoi went public about being sexually assaulted by male GSDF members in 2021 and demanded the Defense Ministry investigate the case
the ministry in September acknowledged the assault and apologized
Four of the five perpetrators personally apologized to Gonoi a month later
The ministry in December dismissed the five servicemen and punished four others
Gonoi sued the five perpetrators and the government
saying she felt their apologies were empty
She is seeking damages from the five for her mental distress and from the government over its failure to take sufficient measures and properly investigate the matter
Her move led to defamatory comments online
Many accused her of filing the lawsuit “just for the money”
Gonoi said the online harassment made her think about calling off the judo event
“I was so scared of people that I couldn’t leave my home,” she said
head of the dojo and a mixed martial artist
told her to push back and not let the critics win
“She would have regretted it if she had canceled the event,” Omigawa said
“She would have been at the mercy of those who are slandering her without even showing their face.”
when Gonoi decided to resign from the GSDF and file a complaint
she asked Omigawa if she could work at the dojo
He immediately asked her to come for an interview
She was at her parents’ home in Miyagi Prefecture at the time
“I could tell that she was passionate about judo,” he said
Omigawa proposed the event as a step for Gonoi to gain experience as an instructor
who works at a law firm took part in the event after learning about it on Twitter
She said her heart ached after meeting Gonoi
“A young woman had to go through such battles,” the woman said
She said that she was sexually harassed when she worked at a manufacturer
She was asked to entertain attendees at a drinking party and was once left alone with a business partner at an after-party
“I had to endure it with a smile,” she said
she was glad that “she was moving to the next step.”
but that’s not what life is all about,” the woman said
“I hope she can detach herself from it and enjoy the rest of her life.”
Participants sent Gonoi down to the tatami more than 100 times that day
“Judo taught me that it’s important to get up and face the opponent no matter how many times I am thrown
Gonoi plans to compete in the individual championship of the All-Japan Businessmen’s Judo Federation in August
She started judo as a preschooler and competed in national tournaments when she was in junior high school and high school
She joined the GSDF because she wanted to enroll in the SDF Physical Training School
But her career was cut short before that could happen
Gonoi decided to participate in the August tournament
I want to live my life not as a victim but as a person,” Gonoi said repeatedly
“I want to change the atmosphere where victims are not allowed to laugh.”
Her soft smile showed not a victim but a person who just loves judo
“I thought I wanted to cheer up the participants
but they were the ones who cheered me up.”

The following were the results from the main card of the big event.UFC 126 Results: Mike Pierce defeated Kenny Robertson via TKO (punches) in Round 2
0:29.Kyle Kingsbury defeated Ricardo Romero via TKO (punches) in Round 1
0:21.Paul Taylor defeated Gabe Ruediger via KO (head kick) in Round 2
1:42.Demetrious Johnson defeated Kid Yamamoto via Unanimous Decision.Donald Cerrone defeated Paul Kelly via Submission (rear naked choke) in Round 2
3:48.Miguel Torres defeated Antonio Banuelos via Unanimous Decision.Jake Ellenberger defeated Carlos Eduardo Rocha via Split DecisionJon Jones defeated Ryan Bader via Submission (guillotine choke) in Round 2
4:20.Forrest Griffin defeated Rich Franklin via Unanimous Decision.Anderson Silva defeated Vitor Belfort via KO (front kick and punches) in Round 1
3:25.But while these were the results of the fights
they do not necessarily tell the whole story
Sometimes simply winning or losing isn’t enough to make you a real winner or loser on a given night.Fanhouse’s Ariel Helwani interviewed many of the show’s fighters and will help explain who the real winners and losers were from Saturday night’s UFC 126 event
.css-ek22sk{margin:0;font-size:1.2rem;-webkit-text-decoration:none;text-decoration:none;font-family:Proxima Nova,Proxima Nova Fallback Helvetica,Proxima Nova Fallback Arial;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;letter-spacing:0rem;line-height:1.44rem;padding-top:var(--br--dimensions-padding__sm);padding-bottom:var(--br--dimensions-padding__sm);color:var(--br--palette-foreground__primary-mainChannel);}The night didn’t last long for Kyle Kingsbury
as he took care of business early in his fight
knocking out Ricardo Romero just 21 seconds into the first round. Now on a three-fight win streak after back-to-back losses
Kingsbury got the monkey off his back by finishing his first opponent since March 2007 at KOTC Battle at the Bowl when he submitted Angelo McElroy.AKA (American Kickboxing Academy) continues to represent well on pay-per-view
and Kingsbury may have earned himself more appearances on the big show with his great performance
Michihiro Omigawa’s return to the UFC was a disappointing one
as he was on the losing end of Chad Mendes’ impressive night
Omigawa struggled to do much of anything in this fight with the only real source of offense he had coming in the first round
when he appeared to have Mendes’ trapped in an arm bar
Though his arm looked like it was in bad condition
Mendes was able to fight through the pain and escape the hold before the end of Round 1
Though he showed great takedown defense at times during this fight
strong wrestlers appear to be one of Omigawa’s weaknesses as he had a very difficult time getting Mendes off him once he was on his back
one of which opened up a large cut on Omigawa’s eyelid that could be seen from a mile away
but it almost seems as if the UFC intentionally brought Omigawa in as a hand-picked opponent to help build credibility for Mendes
who lost a tightly contested fight with fellow fan favorite Forrest Griffin at UFC 126.Franklin has been gradually making his transition back to 205 pounds and weighed in two pounds under the weight limit at 203 pounds during Friday’s weigh-ins
While there’s no rule that says a fighter can’t be a few pounds under the weight limit
the fact Franklin was underweight for this fight was an obvious factor
A much larger Forrest Griffin was able to control the pace of the fight
particularly in the first round when he brought Franklin to the ground and smothered him with ground-and-pound from the guard
Franklin escaped the round and looked much better in the subsequent rounds
but the energy he used during Round 1 may very well have doomed him
as he had to work tirelessly to avoid Griffin passing his guard
where he would be able to do some serious damage
The unanimous judges' decision went to Griffin in what was a clear showing that Franklin is going to have a tough time against the bigger-bodied fighters at light heavyweight
He will need to continue to add muscle and bulk up for his next fight
UFC 126 was supposed to be the debut party for Japanese sensation “Kid” Yamamoto
but Demetrious Johnson apparently didn’t get the memo. The ultra-quick 135-pounder bounced around the cage for 15 straight minutes
this might have been the first time in his career that Yamamoto was out-paced by his opponent. Both men showed a tremendous amount of respect for one another in the fight
which was great to see for a fight that was viewed by so many people on Facebook
Johnson was awarded a unanimous decision with the judges scoring the bout 29-28 once and 30-27 twice
His career record improved to 8-1 as he gained his third straight win under the Zuffa banner.Johnson thanked Xbox after the fight
as his victory over a well-respected fighter was viewed by what will very likely amount to be by far the biggest number of fans who have ever watched him fight live
With Demetrious Johnson being in the “Winner” column
it’s not surprising that his opponent was on the opposite list
who spent most of the night watching “Mighty Mouse” bounce around the cage and take him down on numerous occasions.Yamamoto was not only making his UFC debut
but was also making his debut in the Continental United States as he had only ever fought in the States in Hawaii.“Kid” failed to impress us
as he didn’t really bring the usual fire and non-stop action that we see in his fights
His striking was off all night and he couldn’t get Johnson on his back in what must have been a very frustrating situation for the highly talented Japanese fighter
This certainly won’t spell the end for the “Kid” in the UFC but it certainly does not put him in good starting position as he hopes to ascend back to the top of the world rankings
After a bizarre start to the fight that saw Paul Kelly throw punches just a split second after touching gloves with Donald Ceronne
the “Cowboy” was finally able to take care of business in the second round.Though Cerrone has a background in Muay Thai kickboxing
he submitted Kelly with a beautifully executed rear naked choke; marking the 12th submission victory he has notched in his 14 career wins
Ariel Helwani caught up with an emotional Cerrone as he discussed the fight and reluctantly informed Helwani that Cerrone's grandfather had recently passed away
It wasn’t until later tonight that we found out via Cerrone’s Twitter account that the passing of his grandfather actually happened just 20 minutes prior to fight time
Our thoughts go out to Cerrone and his family in this very tough time
Certainly his grandfather would be proud of the way he performed tonight
This was supposed to be the night that Vitor Belfort ended Anderson Silva’s reign over the middleweight division in the UFC
After over two minutes of feeling-out time in which neither fighter really landed much of anything to note
aside from a solid but unspectacular punch from Belfort; the fight ended very dramatically. As the two circled the center of the cage
Silva faked a front body kick but changed it at the last minute to a front kick to the face
sending the Brazilian challenger to the canvas as his eyes rolled into the back of his head
After a couple more punches to make sure his opponent was out
Silva’s hand was raised once again as the king at 185 pounds.Though Vitor and Anderson showed a tremendous amount of respect for one another after the fight
the exact direction of Belfort’s career going forward is unknown
He claimed that he would be back sooner than later
but will this loss do what it has done to so many other victims of Silva’s in the past and send him into a downward spiral
(Photo by Jon Kopaloff/Getty Images)After a 14-month layoff to recuperate from surgery and various nagging injuries
Forrest Griffin made his triumphant return to The Octagon as he defeated Rich Franklin by unanimous decision. The win wasn’t pretty as Franklin himself acknowledged and it was the third straight victory of his career to come by decision
but it was great to see Forrest back in the cage and entertaining his fans
Not only was Griffin promoted tonight as a fighter with his win but Joe Rogan made a special point to mention the two books he has put out which is always a great way to create some publicity for those of us who don’t exactly stay up-to-date on the latest writing projects from our favorite fighters
Expect Griffin’s book sale numbers to take a nice spike tomorrow as fans rush out to the book stores to see what crazy thoughts are going through this maniac’s head
Chad “Money” Mendes improved his undefeated record to 10-0 with a big unanimous decision win over Japanese featherweight Michihiro Omigawa. Many consider Mendes to be “the next Urijah Faber” as he continues his ascension to the top of the 145-pound division
This comparison is a tough one to live up to
but he shares many tendencies with his fellow Team Alpha Male training partner. Both fighters are excellent wrestlers with solid stand-up and powerful ground-and-pound techniques
But while Faber recently made the decision to drop to 135-pounds
it is Mendes who has risen up the rankings at 145-pounds
This win almost certainly puts Mendes in everyone’s top-10 in the featherweight division
It may only take one or two more wins before he is stepping in the cage and competing for the UFC Featherweight championship
it’s hard not to feel bad for UFC Middleweight championship No
who seems to have been being promised a title shot for as far back as anyone can remember. With victories over Lucio Linhares
Okami should have been on the path to face the winner of Anderson Silva vs
that likely won’t be happening.UFC President Dana White explicitly said that he would attempt to put together the “dream fight” between UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva and UFC Welterweight champion Georges St
Pierre if and when both fighters won their upcoming bouts
Pierre to defeat Jake Shields before the huge fight will be booked. It’s hard to blame the UFC for wanting to make this potentially blockbuster fight but you also have to feel for Yushin Okami who will likely have to continue to defend his position as the No
1 contender until his title fight is eventually booked.“I don’t care
I simply would like to fight the best fighter,” Okami told Ariel Helwani in a post-show interview
Translation: “Give me my damn title shot.”
The biggest winner of the night realistically could be Jon “Bones” Jones
who earned his place in UFC history when he was announced as the new No
1 contender for the UFC Light Heavyweight championship in a post-fight interview with Joe Rogan
previously undefeated Ryan Bader for nine minutes before slapping on a guillotine that would eventually be the nail in the coffin in this huge fight
“Bones” had been criticized by some over the past few weeks who claimed that he was beginning to get a bit egotistical about his skills but he shut down those critics by proved his talents while remaining very humble in the process.Just 23 years old
Jones will take the place of the injured Rashad Evans in six weeks at UFC 128
It doesn’t get much bigger than that for this young superstar
Another amazing performance from Anderson Silva truly ended all discussion about him being the best fighter in the world at 185 pounds
early in the fight; Silva eventually caught his former training partner with a highlight-reel front kick knockout that will certainly go down in history as one of the best finishes to a fight in UFC history.Though there was a lot of trash talking the week leading up to the fight
both Silva and Belfort were very appreciative of one another after the fight and both men likely earned quite a few fans in the process for their display of sportsmanship
But now that the debate between Silva and Belfort is out of the way
it’s time to finally settle the debate that we have been dreaming about for years
Pierre can just get by Jake Shields at UFC 129 in April
UFC President Dana White announced recently that he will be working on finally getting the fight booked between the world’s top two pound-for-pound fighters
The pay day for this fight will be enormous and could very well go down as the biggest fight in MMA history
Even looking aside from the unbelievable competition we will likely see between these two juggernauts
the payday for the fighters is likely to be bigger than anything they have received in the past
If the UFC doesn’t break their all-time pay-per-view buys record with this fight as a headliner
The pioneers in Japanese mixed martial arts include the likes of Kazushi Sakuraba, Masakatsu Funaki, Minoru Suzuki and the rarely talked about founder of both Shooto and Japanese mixed martial arts Satoru Sayama.
Even before the UFC there was Shooto, the sport of Japanese mixed martial arts has been around since 1985.
Modern day Japanese mixed martial arts tends to come from the lighter weight classes, redefining the term, "that big things come in small packages."
These are the top 10 best Japanese Fighters in mixed martial arts present day.

Notable wins: Hideki Kadowaki, Antonio Carvalho, Akitoshi Tamura, Alexandre Franca Nogueira, Cole Miller
Here at #10 is Shooto featherweight superstar "Lion" Takeshi Inoue.
Inoue is a former two-time Shoot lightweight champion (143 lbs) and has had 11 of his 18 wins come by knock out or submission.
Despite recently losing to Hatsu Hioki, Inoue on multiple occasions has solidified himself as one of the best in Japan.
Organizations: Sengoku, Pancrase, DEEP, ZST
Notable wins: Michihiro Omigawa, Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto, "The Korean Zombie" Chang Sung Jung
Coming in at number 10 is former Sengoku featherweight grand prix and featherweight champion Masanori Kanehara.
Kanehara has had his ups and downs in his MMA career, but perhaps his career defining moment is when he replaced Hatsu Hioki in the featherweight grand prix and defeated the top ranked fighter Michihiro Omigawa by split decision.
Organizations: Sengoku, Shooto, Pride, TKO
Notable wins: Takeshi Inoue, Masanori Kanehara, Jeff Curran, Mark Hominic, Hideki Kadowaki
Featherweight Sengoku and Shooto standout Hatsu Hioki has been widely recognized as one of the best in the world in his weight class for several years now.
Hioki has been known for his powerful takedowns in the clinch with an unorthodox submission style that has left many opponents puzzled.
Recently Hioki won the Shooto lightweight title (143 lbs) off of Takeshi Inoue.
Hioki's next bout will be against "Ultimate Fighter" veteran Jeff Lawson at Sengoku 14.
Yoshihiro Akiyama is a Japanese middleweight superstar and a decorated judoka that currently fights in the UFC
Akiyama became infamous for the Japanese grease ate after defeating Japanese Legend Kazushi Sakuraba utilizing a large amount of vaseline
Since then the fight has been ruled a no contest
Most recently Akiyama lost to Chris Leben via triangle choke at UFC 116
Akiyama's next bout is scheduled to be against "Ultimate Fighter" season 3 light heavyweight winner Michael "The Count" Bisping at UFC 120 in England
Top ten lightweight Tatsuya Kawajiri is a former Shooto welterweight champion (154lbs) that has faced some of the sports best
Kawajiri is known for his tremendous wrestling ability and despite not having many knock outs on his resume
While Kawajiri has come up short against the likes of Shinya Aoki
Kawajiri tends to rarely ever be out of a fight
Tatsuya Kawajiri was named fight of the year by Sherdog
After suffering 3 straight losses in a row and dropping from featherweight to lightweight
Michihiro Omigawa has resurrected his mixed martial arts career with fighting for Sengoku
Omigawa used to be known as a purely a judoka
Omigawa has greatly improved his boxing and has shown some of the best hands in his weight class
Japanese middleweight Yushin Okami started his career as a judoka but quickly became a natural at wrestling
he has made a name for himself in the UFC and has solidifed himself as one of the best middleweights in the world
Most recently Okami defeated Mark Munoz and showcased that he is no longer just a powerful grappler with his improved boxing
Megumi Fujii is currently ranked the #1 female fighter in the 115lbs division and has been known as pound-for-pound the best female in the world
Fujii is a highly decorated grappler with a black belt in Judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu as evident after winning 17 of her 21 fights by way of submission
Fujii is coming off a win over All-American wrestler Carla Esparza by way of armbar and has advanced to the semi-finals of the Bellator 115lb female tournament
"The Fireball Kid" Takanori Gomi is a former Pride lightweight and Shooto welterweight champion (154lbs) that currently fights in the UFC
Known for his wrestling and powerful hands
Gomi ruled the lightweight division at one point in time
Most recently Gomi made his first attempt at getting his career back on track after knocking out Tyson Griffin at UFC on Versus 2
At #1 is Japanese lightweight submission specialist Shinya Aoki
Despite being one known as a one dimensional fighter
Aoki has defeated several top ranked opponents and has submitted 15 of his 24 opponents
Aoki recently submitted top ten ranked Tatsuya Kawajiri by submission via an achilles lock at DREAM 15

The anime will premiere on Japanese television in April
Both fighters are coming off a string of losses. Gamburyan has lost his last 3 fights and Omigawa has lost 3 out of his last 4 bouts. Gamburyan most recently faced Diego Nunes at UFC 141 in December 2011 where he lost by unanimous decision. Omigawa was last defeated via unanimous decision to Yuri Alcantara at UFC 142 in January 2012
Both of these fighters need to win to stay viable in the UFC
the loser of this fight will be cut from the UFC
Gamburyan dropped from the UFC several years ago after 2 consecutive losses and went to WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting), where he was somewhat successful. When UFC absorbed WEC and its fighters, Gamburyan came back and the last 2 of his 3 losses were under the UFC banner. Prior to that “Manvel the Anvil” was an alumnus of The Ultimate Fighter, where he lost to Nate Diaz
UFC on Fox 4 will additionally feature Joe Lauzon vs. Terry Etim, Travis Browne vs. Ben Rothwell and Ryan Bader vs. Lyoto Machida
A little more than a year ago, Jason Young upset highly-rated Lithuanian sambo specialist Sergej Grecicho on the stage of a music venue in North London
reenergised and rebuilt by the trainers at American Top Team – he says he is ready to cause a shock on an international scale
The 25-year-old from South East London is honest enough to admit that when his manager received the call from UFC matchmaker Joe Silva earlier this year
Not because he felt he wasn’t deserving of an opportunity
but because he didn’t know he was even on the radar of the higher-ups at Zuffa
The turning point came in April this year on the first ever MMA card to be held in Ontario, Canada – three weeks before Georges St-Pierre and Jake Shields went at it in the main event of UFC 129 in the Rogers Centre
Young caught the eye of a UFC scout with a unanimous decision victory over local favorite and instructor at the Toronto BJJ academy
While the victory was an impressive notch on his record it was the swagger he displayed which made people take notice
After showing off an arsenal of head kicks
submission attempts and spinning back fists he was shortly offered a shot at the major leagues
“I didn’t think at that moment in time I had done enough to get there and now I’m here and being around all these great fighters and these names,” said the featherweight
whose professional record moved to 8-3 with the win over Britto
“My mentality when I was fighting on the UK and European scene was that I wanted to fight the best
I don’t want to fight someone who’s just got a record
If someone was the best in the country then I wanted to fight them
If I do something I want to do it properly and that’s how I got here I suppose
“I’m an exciting fighter who always comes out to bring the fight and the guys I’ve fought – even though my record isn’t great by UFC standards – I’ve beaten guys who are like 19-4 and who were on eight or nine-fight winning streaks
His bravado is backed up when you look at his record and see victories over the grizzled veterans of the British scene such as Abdul Mohamed and Francis Heagney
while defeats have come against the likes of Liverpudlian twister Paul Sass
who is now 12-0 and 2-0 in the UFC after submitting TUF 12 finalist Michael Johnson last month
After a decision loss to Dustin Poirier – who will take on Pablo Garza next weekend – in his UFC debut
Young made a commitment to becoming the best mixed martial artist he could be
A spell at Adrenaline MMA in Ontario was followed by a lengthy stay at American Top Team in Florida
“I’m around people I used to watch on television like Mike Brown
training with him and talking to him as a friend,” he said
“I’ve been watching people like Yves Edwards since before I started training and know he’s coming to me and saying ‘I’m so excited to watch you fight’
Standing in his way now is Michihiro Omigawa
Having also started out in a heavier weight class
the judo specialist’s record of 12-10-1 a reflection of the quality of opposition he has met along the way
The Japanese fighter is able to boast wins over the likes of Hatsu Hioki
but has lost all four of his fights inside the UFC cage
Young was in attendance at Wembley in December 2005 when JZ Calvancante stopped Omigawa in under a minute at Cage Rage 14 and believes his opponent’s return to British shorts will prove equally fruitless
“He’s got really good boxing and is a black belt in judo
but I think I’m bigger than him for the weight,” he said
“I’ve been down with American Top Team doing wrestling and jiu-jitsu every day for the past eight weeks
Every person I turn to is sick on the ground
“I can’t see him man-handling me because I used to fight at a heavier weight and I was never thrown around at that weight
I wrestle with people such as Gleison Tibau – one of the biggest lightweights in the world
Hopefully you’re going to see a fighter you haven’t seen before.”
