overlooking the west coast in Onna Village Café Gallery Doka Doka has created a space where delicious food and drinks pair well with the beautiful Yachimun Okinawan pottery on display There are plenty of similar café-galleries on Okinawa but Doka Doka is one of the most popular among tourists I stopped in at Doka Doka after my trip to zipline at the Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort nearby Many customers would go to Doka Doka for their handmade pizzas The café has an early morning breakfast menu that ends at 10:15 a.m I was one of the first customers for their regular menu at 11 a.m and nabbed a seat on the balcony overlooking the ocean I had four pizzas to choose from including a four cheese margherita and something called a Doka Doka original The pizzas are 32 cm in diameter and will set you back between 2,000 to 3,000 yen (about $17-25) After the thrill of soaring on a zipline that morning I chose the marinara pizza as I thought garlic and tomato would be a perfect combo to rejuvenate myself I was alone on that day and the 32 cm diameter sounded a little too much for one person But just imagining the fruity taste of tomatoes and the distinct flavor of garlic made my mouth water I placed the order without fighting my appetite I enjoyed the serene ocean view while I waited for my piping hot pizza I had also fun looking at the various pottery by renowned artist and Doka Doka owner Akira Tamada and other artisans’ work on display When the pizza on a Yachimun pottery plate and coffee arrived at my table Although the weather was cloudy on this day the marinara pizza’s vibrant red sauce and garlic scent were intoxicating The pizza was larger than I had anticipated and I considered whether I might need a takeout box I didn’t worry about it anymore and devoured it and the toppings were a perfect combination to complete a delightful meal The tasty pizza and great ocean view transported me to a Mediterranean holiday The only thing missing was a nice glass of beer which I passed on since I was going to get back behind the wheel I will be back for another holiday at Café Gallery Doka Doka very soon *You can also spend the night at Doka Doka and try kids – or at least The subject at hand with Goukon ni Ittara Onna ga Inakatta Hanashi is college- well This time it’s a romcon and a shoujo romcom to boot a relatively rare subgenre in anime in the 2020’s The staff seems to be nothing special but the source manga gets pretty good reviews everywhere I’ve seen even more so when it turns out the three beefcakes are indeed the three girls promised Turns out they all work as hosts (I assume) at a drag bar and – their leader says – didn’t have time to change after work but there’s no proof to the contrary I must say for me the appeal of this was less in practice than in theory Honestly the whole setup is just a pretext for the cross-dressing girls to troll the hapless dudes who aren’t sure whether to be turned on or freaked out (except for the airhead among them) It’s mildly amusing but not as amusing as it acts like it is Gender-bender comedy can be fun and this could be heading in the direction of exploring some interesting social conventions but I didn’t find myself really liking anybody And the over-reliance on chibi and distorted animation almost never clicks with me I’ll give it another shot next week but this looks like a cutthroat season so I’m going to need to feel a lot more buy-in than I did with the premiere Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value" Please consider becoming an LiA patron through passion fruit from March to June; mango and pineapple from June to September; dragon fruit from July to November; and bananas from September to October the market sells strawberries from its own farm The first yield from a new passion fruit endeavor is expected toward year’s end Onna no Eki has nearly all of the souvenirs available at Naha Airport and then some called “the blues,” that comes from the acclaimed Mitsuya honpo company known locally for its delectable Okinawan doughnuts except they are deliberately misshaped to maximize nooks and crevices The market also sells its own passion fruit liqueur a tomato curry made by a local farmer and Sango No Umi About a million people visited Onna no Eki last year using gestures and translation apps to communicate; most do not speak English The market periodically schedules performances in the outdoor food court and special events every three months its outdoor picnic tables filled with tourists slurping down steaming bowls of noodles and broth The main market was awash in a flurry of colors and scents colorful bags of locally produced sea salt tarts made with Okinawa’s purple sweet potatoes and rows of atemoya the dog-like guardians placed at the entrance to Okinawan homes A bottle of the local awamori liquor that had been aged at the bottom of the sea sells for 9,800 yen The bottle came with a special cloth to open it so you didn’t cut your hand on a barnacle The seller claims pressure at the sea bottom helps quickly mature the liquor inside There may be something to that; the liquor was sweet and smooth when served with a splash of water on the rocks Pickled goya and some Chinsuko sugar cookies finished the shopping trip Yanbaru is the name given to Okinawa’s heavily forested north The brown rice was shaped with a mold into the island of Okinawa and served on a hot skillet with salad The curry flowed around the rice island like the waters around Okinawa The curry was hearty with just the right amount of spice but the real star of the dish was the rib meat packaged and sold in all its vibrant and delicious glory Costs: Parking (133 spots) and admission is free Meals can cost anywhere for a few dollars for a bento or freshly baked bread Food: Onna no Eki features 10 stalls serving up fresh Okinawan staples like doughnuts and soba De’Onna "Tree" Young-Stephens is an award-winning writer and director based in Los Angeles North Carolina where she developed an interest in film at age eight while enrolled at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts After earning a BS in Public Relations at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Tree moved to Atlanta and got her first job working as a day player on the film 42 She later went on to work as a personal assistant for Taraji P and Janelle Monáe on Hidden Figures and as a second assistant director on numerous films in the Atlanta area she received her MFA from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts and received a Student Academy Award and KCET Fine Cut Film Festival Award for her latest short documentary IDA: What drew you to want to tell the story of your current film DE’ONNA TREE YOUNG-STEPHENS: My personal experience with my name drew me to want to tell the story of Not Just a Name I have a personal connection with the topic because I suffered from "name-shaming" as a child My teachers and peers would shorten my name without my permission and I always felt like something was wrong with my name I realized my name is a part of my identity and it’s beautiful l should embrace it even if it makes others uncomfortable I am passionate about social change—films that urge the viewer to engage analyze injustice and create the world anew—as well as films that push the boundaries of self-actualization that tell stories about protagonists who are brave enough to ask the big questions about life DTYS: The biggest resource for me has been community and mentorship my professors always talked about the importance of collaboration and after graduating I found that there's nothing like having a supportive community of filmmaker friends that I can collaborate with for the rest of my life Mentorship has played an incredible role in my journey as a filmmaker It's nice to have someone that believes in you and your ideas             IDA: Can you describe what traits you look for within a mentor?  IDA: What is one thing you like to do as an exercise in finding joy but I like to sit in my car for hours and read IDA: Are there any projects you’re currently working on that you’d like to share with our members?  but right now I’m focused on expanding Not Just a Name While the documentary was specifically about ethnic Black names in America I was blessed to interview people from various walks of life and learn about their experiences with their name I want to bring awareness to this topic because it’s so expansive It can range from changing your last name to assimilate into a specific culture to highlighting the mythical aspects of names as well.  Would you like to receive event invitations and other updates from the International Documentary Association virtual on Zoom or in-person at IDA Office in Los Angeles © 2024 International Documentary Association Privacy Policy to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven  slipped away to be in the arms of Jesus Our little princess was welcomed into the world on August 1 2022 at Atrium Health Union in Monroe to her parents Hydia Tenniya Rivers and Corey Alexander Bennett Although in our arms for just a little while blessed our lives and homes with so much love and many precious memories.  Those who are left to cherish her memory are her parents Hydia Rivers and Corey Bennett; By providing training and resources to dive and snorkel operators following the Green Fins code of conduct, the initiative aims to protect coral reefs from harmful practices like anchoring the approach has been proven to help make corals healthier and more resilient “Onna Village has a strong interest in sustainable practices and it is the perfect pilot for the Japanese chapter of Green Fins,” says Makiko Yashiro UNEP’s Regional Coordinator for Ecosystems “We hope that when this initial project is successful we can bring the Green Fins code of conduct to other locales in Japan.”   This will not be Onna’s first foray into environmental protection There is an ongoing coral recovery project that has planted 30,000 corals The village was also named a “Sustainable Development Goals Future City” by the Government of Japan for its superior approach toward the achievement of the Goals Yoshimura is hopeful that Green Fins will have a positive impact “Though I cannot change things just by myself with support from and cooperation with many people we can protect the environment and maintain it for future generations,” he says “I hope that by using the Green Fins code of conduct we will be able to inform divers about environmental issues more effectively and enable divers to have a wonderful diving experience.” “We look forward to protecting coral reefs by working with the Green Fins initiative,” says Nagahama “It is the responsibility of adults to leave this wonderful © 2025 UNEP Terms of Use Privacy Report Project Concern Report Scam Contact Us Your browser does not support JavaScript, or it is disabled. Please check the site policy for more information National Report NAHA—Waves pounded the rocks and coral off Cape Maeda in Onna This was the scene one day in late May at a beach near the "Blue Cave," one of Okinawa’s most popular tourist spots Local surfers were talking about how crazy it would be to swim offshore on a day like this The cape is often heavily congested in summer said the cape is “surrounded by reefs and usually it’s calm like a swimming pool.” People can enjoy leisure activities there without a care in the world while rip currents pull outward from the shore into deeper water according to an official from the Japan Coast Guard's 11th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters “Not even expert swimmers can make it back to the shore once they are swept away,” the official said A JCG study showed that 13 people were killed or went missing in the Cape Maeda area during the 10 years from 2013 to 2022 three were swimming and two were scuba diving Some of the people panicked when they got water in their snorkel But 10 of the 13 victims were not wearing life jackets This suggests they were independent visitors because had they been with a guide they have been urged to wear one of the safety devices “It is difficult to distinguish where rip currents may arise unless you are a skilled local guide,” said Hiromitsu Miyagi for the water to be calm on one side of a cape but there to be a rapid current on the other side those who visit such areas on their own have been swept away by rip currents and drowned,” he said Okinawa’s tourism and wild ocean are ingredients for trouble seven snorkelers and scuba divers died or were reported missing in the Cape Manzamo area 10 people perished at Yonehara beach on Ishigakijima island Many of the accidents occurred along stretches of coast without lifeguards which meant there was a delay in summoning help “There is no end to drownings involving tourists from outside the prefecture,” a JCG official said “They get in the water even if they are not feeling well or the weather is bad saying that they came all the way and they just want a quick dip.” the National Police Agency recorded 116 water-related accidents in the prefecture the prefectural government’s tourist section began publishing the Okinawa Marine Safety Map which lists the number of accidents at each of the prefecture’s 400 or so beaches who heads the JCG’s Boating and Water Safety Division said safety is a prerequisite for tourism promotion “We want to make concerted efforts with all members of the prefecture to reduce water-related accidents,"Kosaka said Child’s body found; 15 missing in Hokkaido tour boat disaster Creator of the popular manga series ‘Yu-Gi-Oh!’ dies at age 60 Rescue efforts move closer to disputed isles; Russia notified Information on the latest cherry blossom conditions Please right click to use your browser’s translation function.)
