have captivated internet users with their novelty
The century-old fishmonger Hashisa Shoten began sporadically announcing sales of these unique seafood offerings on X earlier this year
The offers consisted of assorted seafood usually not for sale mixed in with standard inventory
some sets were claimed within four minutes of being posted on the platform
X users flooded the post with comments like
“These rare fish are so much fun to look at,” and “I heard they are surprisingly tasty.”
The driving force behind the initiative is Moe Hashimoto
she shared photos of striking orange starfish and other peculiar sea creatures she had discovered among the fish
The post ignited a flurry of comments like
“I want to buy this,” prompting her to launch this unique sales initiative
Since the availability of these “unusual fish” is sporadic
announcements are made via Hashisa Shoten’s X account
“I hope this will also put Owase in the spotlight,” she said

Noor ul Owase Jeelani from London played an important role on the medical team that successfully separated Israeli-Jewish conjoined twins earlier this month at the Soroka University Medical Center in the southern Israeli city of Beersheva
The twin girls - who were conjoined at the head - are recovering well and expected to live completely normal lives
The first-of-its kind, miracle operation in Israel was led by Dr
a pediatric neurosurgeon at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital and considered a world expert on cases involving Craniopagus twins (CPT)
When doctors at Soroka needed to prepare for the operation to separate the twins
they reached out to Jeelani and he agreed to perform surgery outside of the UK for the first time
The two baby girls were born in August 2020 attached at the head
He worked with the Soroka medical team for six months before the surgery to prepare for the 12-hour operation
considered to be a matter of “life or death.”
Despite having never performed such a complicated procedure in Israel
the medical team managed the complexities of critical
on-the-spot decisions regarding which blood vessel to assign to which girl and other real-time assessments which could have an immediate impact on the twin’s brain functionality
The British doctor said that as a Kashmir-born
Muslim doctor it was ‘fantastic’ to scrub up alongside Israeli medics to help a Jewish family
a reminder of the universal nature of medicine
all children are the same – whatever color or religion.” Jeelani said
Jeelani said he was deeply moved by the family’s delight at the operation’s success
“It was a fantastic family that we helped,” he said
“There was this very special moment when the parents were just over the moon
I have never in my life seen a person smile
We had to pull up a chair to help her to calm down.”
Dr. Isaac Lazar, the director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Soroka, described the complex surgery. “It was complicated beyond anything one could imagine,” said Lazar
“The babies were connected by the back of their heads in an area where there was no skin and no skull
Jeelani has performed four other CPT-separation surgeries since 2017 and is one of the directors of the non-profit organization, Gemini Untwined
which prepares and performs operations on Craniopagus twins (CPT)
the term used to describe two independent children that are connected to each other with fused skulls
intertwined brains and shared blood vessels
approximately 50 sets of CPT twins are born worldwide every year and it is believed that only 15 survive beyond the first 30 days of life
“This was a rare and complex surgery that has been conducted only 20 times worldwide and now

surgeons Owase Jeelani and David Dunaway attempted an operation that had never before been tried in the UK: separating a pair of conjoined twins attached at the head
and despite working at a world-leading hospital for conjoined twin care — Great Ormond Street in London — neither they
“It was a kind of journey into the unknown and actually went much better than it deserved to,” says Dunaway
head of the craniofacial unit at Great Ormond Street
that there was scant research to draw on in attempting the surgery

Mie — Sea kayak night tours are offered in Owase
with bioluminescence of the Noctiluca glowing pale white while the stars shine above
“It’s quiet at night; the only sound is the waves,” said Izumi Hirayama
Hirayama is head of a group offering night tours at sea among Noctiluca — a single-celled bioluminescent marine organism
It is held in the Mikisato district in the city
An organizer of nature experience programs
the group Mikisato E-gumi started night tours in 2018 in addition to the daytime tours they have conducted since 2014
The geographical characteristics of the Mikisato area are perfect for night tours
The calm waters in the bay make it easy for kayaks to be taken out in the dark
A 44-year-old woman who participated in July said she got out of her kayak offshore and tried swimming
“The water was so clear that I felt like my whole body was enveloped in the glow of the Noctiluca,” she said
Noctiluca is a type of plankton that emits a weak light when stimulated
A few hundred meters from shore away from the city light
the stimulus of moving a paddle causes the organisms to glow
There is also an unobstructed view of the stars
only about 10 people participated in the night tour
with no need to worry about sunburn or heatstroke
“Float leisurely in the night breeze,” Hirayama said
Many foreigners have participated in the tour
Many reservations have already been made for this year
and participation is expected to exceed that of last year
The tour is only for kayakers who can make turns and other maneuvers
The tour will continue through the end of October

CloseThe pioneering work of neurosurgeon Owase Jeelani and his team at Great Ormond Street Hospital made headlines around the world when they separated conjoined twins Safa and Marwa last year
He told Hardtalk's Stephen Sackur that emotions played an important role in a surgeon's work
"You stick to the facts and address the facts of the case but then you need to bring in your emotional side
That has to be a part of your decision making," he said

Mie — An electric vehicle with a body made of locally produced Hinoki Japanese cypress is on display at the Kumanokodo Center in Owase
The car was made by students at Osaka Sangyo University at the request of local residents
the car can travel 50 kilometers on a single charge at up to 50 kph
The Kumanokodo Center was established by the Mie prefectural government to collect and disseminate information on the nature
history and culture of the area surrounding the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site
The center has also worked to promote local lumber
it displayed a wooden hybrid car that drew in visitors
the car used at that time was mainly made of Yoshino Cedar from Nara Prefecture
Locals wanted to display a car made out of Owase Hinoki
and established a committee for this purpose
students at Osaka Sangyo University took on the challenge as their graduation project
they used scrap wood from Owase Hinoki that is produced during the manufacturing of pillars
“We can create demand for domestic lumber by making effective use of resources to manufacture valuable products,” said Prof
“Even wood can maintain sufficient strength if it is properly used.”
The center began to hold free test-ride events every weekend
Staff drive the vehicle around the center’s premises
“The smell of the wood and the soft touch are comforting.”
“The reddish grain unique to Owase Hinoki is beautiful
Just looking at it is fun,” said Hideo Miyamoto
“I want people to see the potential of the cypress lumber,” he said
The center has already registered the vehicle as a type of scooter
the center is considering renting it out for local events
The cypress vehicle will be on display until Aug
Test-ride events have been suspended due to the spread of the novel coronavirus
The Japanese cypress grown in dense forests on steep mountains in Owase has dense annual rings
Owase Hinoki is highly valued as a building material
The cypress was used for the round table at the Group of Seven Ise-Shima summit in 2016

The team have now completed five separation surgeries since 2006
director of paediatric neurosurgery at Soroka Medical Center
Dr Owase Jeelani said: “I am delighted that the surgery has gone well and the girls
their family and the local team have had a good outcome
“It is through this process of teamwork and knowledge-sharing globally that we can hope to improve the outcome for all children and families that find themselves in this difficult position.”
added: “It’s exciting that we have now helped three families from different countries with this lifechanging surgery.”
Mr Rahman said the prevalence of conjoined twins is higher in less developed communities where there is little foetal monitoring
which is where charities like Gemini Untwined can assist
He said: “Gemini seeks to provide not only research and technical support to the local medical teams but also financial support to facilitate the complex surgery and post-operative rehabilitation where needed
“We are presently supporting other families that find themselves in this challenging situation.”
It is estimated fifty such sets of craniopagus conjoined twins
it is thought only 15 survive beyond the first 30 days of life
which the charity aims to make more accessible
approximately half of these cases would be candidates for successful surgical separation

no one from Owase was killed in the earthquake or the resulting tsunami
Prince Rupert City council has decided to send a letter to Owase to ask how the small city of 21,000 how they were holding up since the disaster. The Northern View managed to contact Owase’s City Hall for an update
