Shed that Skin, Ryugasaki-san! is one of the first titles from the new manga publisher Kaiten Books
and it certainly is an interesting choice for an early license
It's a character-driven high school romance that tries to be sweet with a kinky twist
from an author without any other works released in English
obviously conceived to have crossover appeal between mainstream audiences and people who may share Yugami's kink
This first volume lays all its cards on the table pretty much right away
as it begins with a few color pages of Ryugasaki
shedding her skin in a shed at school while Yugami peeks in
He apologizes mentally for peeping in on a private moment
She catches him in the act by scaling his walls
Most romantic comedies are either fairly vanilla, or have sadomasochistic undertones, so a series like this about such a specific kink are interesting cases. Many of them, including Ryugasaki-san and Sweat and Soap
focus on a character with an unusual characteristic that most find off-putting
and another person who finds that exact characteristic attractive
it can be a bland story that uses kink in place of good writing or an interesting plot
unfortunately falls into the latter category
The biggest issue is that for the first few chapters
neither Yugami nor Ryugasaki have much in the way of personality
calling Yugami a “pervert” but demanding he take her on a date
while revealing in her internal monologue that she's in love with him
She offers him sex but also runs away in embarrassment when he asks about where on her body a piece of skin came from
is intrusively obsessed with her body but shows little interest in the person it belongs to
He builds a Pygmalion-style statue out of her shed skin
he declines and says he's really only interested in her molt
he steals it from her so that he can add it to his statue of her
even though she makes it quite clear that she wants to keep it so she can bury it in hopes of having healthy children
it's an egregious violation of her boundaries and her personhood
treating her more like a fetish object than a being with thoughts and feelings and bodily autonomy
All of this together makes him difficult to root for as a romantic lead
it turns out the reason Ryugasaki likes Yugami is she saw him being nice to a snake once
It seems like a thin reason to not only develop a crush
considering that there's a lot of people who like reptiles
but to hold onto it despite the fetishistic
She is simultaneously repulsed by and attracted to this fetishization
so that Yugami never really has to reconcile with his treatment of her
Manga artist Kazutomo Ichitomo seems to share a similar fixation with Ryugasaki's female
Some of the most detailed panels in the entire volume are close zooms on her underwear-clad butt
we see things from Yugami's point of view as she thrusts the sole of her foot toward him
and his fingers enter the frame as he pulls off her stuck-on skin
All this is made more frustrating by just how much potential Shed that Skin, Ryugasaki-san! shows, especially in the latter third of this installment. Without spoiling the ending, suffice to say that it's comparable to the end of the first story arc/season of Fruits Basket
rather than Ryugasaki thinking about how much she likes Yugami while he treats her like an object
I had already come to deeply dislike Yugami
The art itself probably won't do much to attract readers
presumably at least partially so Ichitomo doesn't have to draw backgrounds
but anything but the simplest backgrounds are obviously photographs run through filters to manga-fy them
Ichitomo isn't particularly good at drawing faces either
and mouths especially are frequently misshapen
the thing that Ichitomo is best at is bodies
The few action shots actually have a decent amount of motion
and nothing can match the loving detail he puts into rendering the curves of Ryugasaki's genitals from behind
The last few chapters showed real signs of improvement
both in terms of character writing and art
was a bold choice for a fledgling company's second release
and considering the specificity of the subject matter and lack of other appeals
the last few chapters show real potential for improvement
and I wish Kaiten the best of luck on releasing the next volume

Domestic Japanese carrier New Central Airservice (NCA) recently took delivery of a new Dornier 228
which arrived from RUAG MRO International’s manufacturing centre in Oberpfaffenhofen
tells Smart Aviation APAC that it took about seven flying days with around seven flight hours per day
also on board were pilot Martina Hierle and technical support staff Manfred Huber
“Ferry flights with the Dornier 228 are always interesting
These are journeys not many pilots get to take
especially because we fly relatively low,” Gemsa says
and Taiwan before finally arriving in Ryugasaki
The aircraft had shortwave radios and extra fuel tanks installed for the long distances
as well as the all-important toilet,” he adds

The domestic carrier operates Dornier 228s from Tokyo’s Chofu Airport to the Izu archipelago south of Tokyo
we had pretty good weather all the way despite flying across Europe and half of Asia
except for the daily thunderstorms in the Indian ocean and strong winds over Japan,” says Gemsa
It’s a great choice for accessing challenging commercial airports
as well as for doing multi-mission work such as SAR (search and rescue) and maritime patrol,” he adds

but for fans of some good old fashioned drag racing action
the amount of drag strips in Japan is far less than their twisty counterparts
The Kanto area in particular lacks any real drag strip so most Kanto draggers have to travel all the way up to Sendai Highland in northern Japan's Miyagai Prefecture tp get their fix
Fortunately TRUST has come to the rescue with their Zeroyon drag racing events
"Zeroyon" is the Japanese term for 0-400 meter drag racing
a distance which spans just slightly less than a standard quarter mile
The TRUST Zeroyon events are held not a drag strip
but at a small countryside airfield in Ryugasaki
It's kind of like how drag racing first started in the United States back in the postwar years
Ryugasaki is actually located a short distance from Narita International Airport
and from the strip you can watch the 747's turn in for their final approach to Narita
This weekend I headed out to Ryugasaki to have my first look at drag racing Japanese style
the tarmac at the airstrip was filled high performance machines ready to do battle
When it comes to popular Japanese drag cars
the only three letters you need to know are "GT-R"
Ok so GT-R's weren't the ONLY cars at event
but I'd say more than half of the cars were GT-R's of some sort
The BNR32 model in particular was the most popular by far
Normally the TRUST Zeroyon events feature a time attack with a full Christmas tree starting lights and timing devices
but for this event unfortunately was there was a problem with timing system
they simply turned it into a "street zeroyon" where a flagger was used and the cars simply ran heads up down to the end of the runway
It is for that reason that I don't have the 0-400 ET's for any of the cars
the "street zeroyon" proved to be quite exciting to see
While sticky "S-tires" like the Advan A048 are the choice for circuit events
The cars driving in the event ranged from mildly modified street cars like this one…
…to purpose built drag cars like this BNR32 from JK Power
the Silvia/180SX also gets a lot love from drag racers
This further shows its status as the most versatile tuning platform in Japan
Big power Toyota cars like this JZX100 Chaser are also popular choices for drag racers in Japan
This was one of several JZX's driving in the event
automatic transmissions are a popular choice for these high power turbo machines
Of course you can't forget about the Supra
Both the JZA80 and the JZA70 models were well represented
There was a good showing of nostalgic drag racers including a handful of S30Z's and one Hakosuka Skyline
They were all powered by heavily tuned NA L-series engines
The rotary cars had a smaller showing than I expected
but this quick FD was representing the RE crowd well
Tokkuri-san and the Garage Saurus crew have the drag scene on lock
A lot of people like to talk down drag racing as being "too simple" for them
but after seeing an event like this I can't see how anyone wouldn't enjoy some classic "zeroyon"
TRUST Zeroyon
LOVE in zeroyon......that old school skyline was awesome!!i soo that you like the left angle of cars...can you plese...plese!!...take some photos from the right angle sometimes...for me???thanks a lot for the picturescongratulations from Brazil!!!RacerXXX
