she takes things even further with a series of hanging sculptures
The series is called Poem of Life and it plays with light
paper is more than just a material—it’s seen as a yorishiro
a sacred object that can hold divine spirits
people have used it to express their thoughts
Shibata translated this idea in her own way for the exhibition
Each delicate sculpture was carefully cut from countless sheets of paper and tied together
symbolizing the artist’s hope for a world where everything exists in harmony
Suspended from the ceiling into the museum’s nine-meter atrium
the sculptures transformed the space into a breathtaking
Visitors were invited to wander through the room
they reimagined the possibilities of the everyday material
challenging perceptions of how it’s used in art

2025Nicolas Cage has had one of the longest
weirdest careers in Hollywood—he’s won an Oscar and been in a movie called Drive Angry—but his personal life is also the stuff of legend
He’s been married five times over the years
most recently to his current wife, Riko Shibata
and shares three children with three different women
(That’s to say nothing of his purchasing habits
which include a nine-foot tall pyramid-shaped tomb for his future use
“I think there has to be some unusualness to be able to be in a relationship with me,” Cage told The New York Times Magazinein 2019
And I can’t just go to a pharmacy and say
let me have some Prozac.’ I can’t do it
because that would put my instrument at risk
If I can’t inform the dialogue with genuine emotional content I will be a phony on camera
and I don’t want to be that.”
Well, the last thing you could ever call Cage is “phony”—and his zeal for jumping into relationships proves that. As we wait to hear him voice the lead role of Spider-Man Noir in the upcoming MGM+ and Amazon live-action show
let's untangle the web of his complete history of wives and relationships

Nicolas Cage tied the knot with Patricia Arquette in April 1995 after meeting her in the 1980s at the famous Los Angeles restaurant Canter’s Deli
Cage and fellow actor Crispin Glover both proposed marriage to her
telling Cage she would only marry him if he could find a list of seemingly unattainable objects: a signature from J.D
“One by one, they started coming to me,” Arquette recalled during a 2018 interview on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen
but it wasn’t as reported and I didn’t feel that I needed to explain that
There were times when my mom was dying [from breast cancer in 1997] and I was living with her
There were times when he was away working on a movie
I still don’t feel like I owe it to anyone.”
The couple ultimately finalized their divorce in 2001
Cage met Lisa Marie Presley—the only child of Elvis Presley—at a party in 2000 while he was still married to Arquette.
“She comes from an artistic family, I come from an artistic family,” Cage told Barbara Walters in 2003
“She was born with the pressure of an extremely famous name from day one
I was a young actor in Hollywood with the last name Coppola
trying to make it with those pressures.”
The couple walked down the aisle in Hawaii on Aug
but they filed for divorce just 107 days later and finalized their split on May 24
After Lisa Marie’s death in January 2023 at age 54
Cage said it was “devastating” to hear of her passing.
“Lisa had the greatest laugh of anyone I ever met,” he told The Hollywood Reporter at the time

Why did Nicolas Cage and Patricia Arquette get divorced?Arquette has hinted that her and Cage’s ages contributed to the demise of their romance
She was 19 when they met and 27 when they married
Cage was 31 at the time of their wedding but had been famous for more than a decade.
“It was just too fast and too much for me at that time,” Arquette said on WWHL in 2018
explaining why she didn’t marry Cage when he first began pursuing her
In 2002, Arquette told Paperthat it’s “always hard” to decide to get divorced.
“We’ve both moved on with our lives
and I think it’s important to honor the people we’re with now and concentrate on the future,” she added

The following piece is an opinion and does not reflect the views of The Eagle and its staff
style and argument structure and fact-checked
it’s out there for everyone to perceive me with the negative stereotypes that come with those words: fake
It almost seems forbidden to say it without contextualizing it.
I’m not going to sugarcoat my perspective and say the stereotypes are lies about sororities across the country because I cannot speak for other sororities
after almost two years in my own sorority and being on the recruitment side
I can confidently say that nothing about my friendships in my sorority is fake
While I agree with the notion of social media
the setups and some parts of recruitment being “fake,” labeling an organization as lacking depth and superficial are lazy stereotypes based on surface-level observations.
Especially since the rise of “Bama-Tok — the surge in TikTok videos of students going through recruitment at the University of Alabama — the talk of the town has been the “fakeness” surrounding the recruitment process.
formal recruitment at American University is a three-day event that takes place right before the spring semester
The three days start with an orientation and are followed by “sisterhood day,” “philanthropy day” and “preference day.” All potential new members or PNMs — girls who wish to join a sorority for the first time — are invited to the first day
depending on whether there is a mutual match between the PNM and the organization
those going through recruitment may or may not be invited back
A person would not be invited back if the organization felt a connection but the individual did not
The rounds become longer and the conversations deeper as the days go on.
Given that I do not love the system and believe it takes more than a few minutes to get to know someone’s personality and values
it is impossible to spend hours getting to know each of the hundreds of PNMs
I can say there is genuineness in the conversations and their intentions despite their short time
The recruiters are just as nervous to meet new members because we care and are looking for meaningful connections
The limited time can lead to approaching deeper topics quicker
and the vulnerability from both sides is very real
so even if the PNM ends up committing to a different organization
the few conversations that were had during the recruitment process can be the spark of a new friendship.
sororities also value a PNM’s commitment to academics
philanthropy, service and leadership to determine a fit holistically
it is easier to make authentic connections and holistic impressions at a school like American
where Greek life has a smaller presence with fewer members
with an emphasis on diversity and individuality that reflects the values of the AU campus.
makes it seem like the connections formed within it are transactional and only for appearances
there are girls we click with and don’t click with
but that is completely normal in any social group
each member is genuine in their attempts to form closer bonds
It seems forced because of the initial process of becoming a part of Greek life
forming relationships from friendships to mentors
The uniformity in sororities and the attempts to showcase the best parts of themselves on social media have the opposite effect by appearing to play “pretend” friends
but once you can look past the traditions and structure of the organization
I am lucky to say that I have created meaningful connections and have a great support system that always shows up for me in every way imaginable
I know the friends I made in the organization will continue to be my closest friends.
It is difficult to reinvent the perception of sororities after the movies and stereotypes
but I implore everyone to open their minds and see it from a different perspective
and beyond the matching outfits and the events
the real value comes from the connections and willingness to authentically get to know everyone.

With a vision of developing the next big thing in the mold of their star alumnus Shohei Ohtani
the Nippon Ham Fighters picked a two-way talent in the first round of last month's draft
an 18-year-old out of Fukuoka's Ohori High School
bats left-handed and throws right-handed like the Los Angeles Dodgers superstar and is confident at both
"I want to be like Ohtani-san from the bottom of my heart," Shibata said
"I'm thrilled to be drafted by the team I wanted to join."
Shibata stands 187 centimeters and weighs 87 kilograms
He throws a fastball that touches 149 kilometers (92.6 miles) per hour with a smooth delivery
He hit 19 home runs in his high school career that ended when his team fell one win short of a trip to this summer's national championship
Shibata was introduced by the Fighters during a press conference in Fukuoka on Tuesday
"Shibata plays baseball with a happy face," said Fighters chief baseball officer Hideki Kuriyama
who helped Ohtani build his career as a two-way player when he was the Pacific League club's manager
"I believe Shibata will be a new type of baseball player
We'll try not to eliminate his various possibilities."
the Fighters selected left-handed pitcher-outfielder Kota Yazawa in the first round of the 2022 draft
has a 1-2 career record with a 3.52 ERA in 19 games as a pitcher while batting .167 with one homer and four RBIs in 65 games
Nippon Ham manager Tsuyoshi Shinjo has been impressed with the way Shibata swings the bat
"His swing path is just like Ohtani's," the former New York Mets and San Francisco Giants outfielder said
Shibata hopes to face Orix Buffaloes pitcher and Ohori High School graduate Shumpeita Yamashita
"It would be great if I can produce strong results both ways," Shibata said

Katsuyori Shibata dreams of challenging for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door this summer
While speaking with Tokyo Sports
Shibata stated his desire to challenge either Hirooki Goto or Hiroshi Tanahashi for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship
recently winning the belt from Zack Sabre Jr
His first title defense will be against Tanahashi at NJPW’s 53rd Anniversary show this Thursday
Goto and Shibata have been friends since high school
and the two were once IWGP Tag Team Champions together
Shibata told Tokyo Sports that he and Goto have always envisioned themselves facing off for the IWGP World title
this is the time that dream can become a reality
“It’s probably only possible at this point in time that Goto has
it would be Forbidden Door and if he could hold it to that point
the possibilities would come all at once,” Shibata said
“I don’t want to give up on my dream
The rest depends on Goto’s efforts.”
Forbidden Door 2025 is taking place in London on Sunday
It’s the fourth straight year that AEW and NJPW have collaborated together for the pay-per-view
A member of the NJPW roster for more than two decades
this is Goto’s first reign as IWGP World Champion
His most recent time challenging for IWGP gold was against Kazuchika Okada in 2017
when Shibata suffered a life-threatening subdural hematoma during the match
Shibata is now signed to AEW and competes in both AEW and ROH
He’s part of a trio called The Opps with Samoa Joe and Hook
In an interview with NJPW’s website after winning the IWGP title, Goto was asked if he had heard from Shibata
“Just ‘I’m waiting in America!’ [laughs],” Goto responded
“I got a few messages from other wrestlers
foreign wrestlers over there I wrestled before
I was surprised how happy so many foreign fans were for me.”
Yuji Nagata has also challenged Goto to a future title match if he’s successful in his defense against Tanahashi

Assistant Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery
For some, the answer to the question, “Where did you grow up?” is a relatively simple one, but for others, like Dr. Seiji B. Shibata (MD, PhD)
the question necessitates a more complex and detailed response
“I was born in Kentucky and then moved to Japan when I was about 8 years old
including my medical school education and my residency in otolaryngology,” Dr
His interest in medicine began at a young age
and with two older brothers who went to medical school
it was hard not to follow in their footsteps (both of his brothers are now practicing doctors in Japan
one an orthopedic surgeon and the other an anesthesiologist)
Shibata’s interest in otolaryngology in particular actually originated in high school when he did an exchange program in Germany and stayed with a host family where the father was an otolaryngologist and spoke very highly of the field
Shibata was drawn to the breadth of otolaryngology and
the nuances of neuro-anatomy that he was exposed to during rotations
Shibata continued his medical education in the United States after finishing his residency in Japan
He realized that he was interested in conducting research in addition to practicing as a physician
and in pursuing his career as a clinician-scientist
he returned from Japan to the United States as a postdoctoral fellow in basic science research at the University of Michigan
He then furthered his training by completing a second residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and a surgical fellowship in Neurotology at the world-renowned University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics
Shibata was drawn to becoming a clinician-scientist in part because of his curiosity and his desire to better understand why a certain medical intervention works in a given situation
especially in the sub-field of otology (the anatomy
and diseases of the ear): “There are a lot of unanswered questions in the field of otology
and the current treatment options are often limited because of this knowledge gap.” There is an almost poetic beauty to the mysteries of the inner ear
Shibata described it: “It’s simultaneously very fragile but also very robust
a single base-pair point mutation in your DNA
surgery using a small prosthesis can completely restore hearing–it’s very fascinating.”
Receiving his secondary and post-secondary education in Japan
Shibata’s perspective on the world at large
and he appreciated that becoming a doctor could enable him to help people in a more globalized context
Shibata is able to improve people’s quality of life and do something that allows them to feel better
and in his research on hearing loss and regenerative gene therapy in the inner ear
he hopes to make contributions that will have an even broader impact
Shibata discussed how the auditory nerve is crucial for hearing
and because the auditory nerve does not regenerate on its own in mammals
this means that there are very few options for people who experience loss or degeneration of this nerve for various reasons
“I’m looking for ways to regenerate the auditory nerve through reprogramming glia cells that can survive nerve damage,” Dr
“If we’re able to figure out how to not just reprogram glial cells in a dish but to do it in vivo/in situ
we could transdifferentiate glial cells into a new induced neuronal phenotype and possibly restore hearing.” In other words
there might be a way to restore the auditory nerve
which could have a monumental impact on combating hearing loss
This ties back into why Dr. Shibata was so thrilled to join the USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in the first place
As someone looking to pursue a career as a clinician-scientist
“There aren’t a lot of places that actually have a robust cohort of talented scientists in the field of hearing research
and I wanted to go somewhere that provided an environment/structure for that
USC has a culture of embracing people who want to go the clinician-scientist route
and the program at USC has a tremendous amount of growth potential.” Dr
Shibata also enjoys the diversity of patients that he gets to see and especially appreciates his ability to serve Japanese-speaking patients
(Los Angeles is the city with the largest Japanese population in the United States.) “Many of my older Japanese patients aren’t fluent enough in English to be able to convey the information that they would want to tell their doctors
and by being able to speak to them in the language they’re most comfortable in
it enables me to build more trust and rapport.” Dr
Shibata’s philosophy as a physician is to treat patients as family
to explain everything and have the patient decide what they want to do
“This is what I would do for my dad or a family member,” Dr
“The patient should get to be involved in the decision.” Dr
Shibata is a shining example of how a globalized approach to medicine is oftentimes a more personalized approach as well

The ‘Eri’ armchair by Fumie Shibata for Flexform wins 'Best Comfort Zone' in the Wallpaper* Design Awards 2025
is one that balances crisp elegance as a sculptural object with the feeling of a good hug when in use
and this is why Japanese designer Fumie Shibata’s debut creation for Flexform is a winner in our books
Inspired by the uplifted lapels of a jacket (so demure)
the leather-upholstered shell is cradled by a turned wooden base in either walnut
with die-cast zama feet in a range of finishes
Down-filled seat cushions and backrests complete the comfort factor
‘Eri’ means ‘blessing’ in Japanese
and we applaud the friendly character and careful detail of Shibata’s design
which will surely win hearts and behinds across residential and commercial domains
In a sea of more angular chairs that proliferated on the stands of international design fairs last year
‘Eri’ was a welcome rock against the flood – albeit a graceful and extremely comfortable one

Konosuke Takeshita defeated Katsuyori Shibata to retain the International Championship in the main event of "AEW Collision: Homecoming." Takeshita was making the seventh defense of his title reign against Shibata
who had last been seen in an AEW ring unsuccessfully challenging for Daniel Garcia's TNT Championship
and the bout proved to be fairly competitive throughout in a meshing of power against technicality
Shibata started with the advantage after a feeling out process
locking in various holds and submissions before Takeshita found his way into things with kicks as the action spilled outside and he threw Shibata into the barricade
This week’s Ring of Honor on HonorClub will feature a smorgasbord of talent and several key matches as December’s Final Battle begins to form
ROH Tag Team Champion Sammy Guevara will be in singles action against Preston Vance
The assumed next challengers to Guevara and Dustin Rhodes’ titles — The Righteous — will also be in action
former ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata will battle The Butcher
ROH Women’s World Champion Athena will hold an emergency meeting of her minions following last week’s title defense over Abadon
AR Fox will take on former Pure Champion Josh Woods while past title challenger Diamante goes heads-up with Rachael Ellering
Tomohiro Ishii continues his march toward an ROH World title match as he faces Aaron Solo
The rest of the card is rounded out by The Infantry
With absolutely nothing of interest or importance happening in any part of the USA
all eyes were fixed firmly on Ring of Honor on Honorclub Episode 89
The Infantry (Carlie Bravo & Shawn Dean) (w/Lee Moriarty & Shane Taylor) defeated Tom Mitchell & Trace Parker
the Infantry shocked everyone by signing up with Shane Taylor Promotions
This immediately helped them get a somewhat shady win over Spanish Announce Project
which possibly signalled a heel turn for the group
they have significantly less imposing foes in Mitchell and Parker who… well
taking the greener wrestler to the woodshed quickly
The Infantry’s newfound agression was on full display as Dean grabbed Parker from the outside
Mitchell jumped in to help his partner and ate a Boot Camp but Parker was the legal man
so the Infantry gave him a “Two To The Head” to pin him
Spanish Announce Project (Angelico & Serpentico) defeated LSG & Shawn Donavan
last week Serpentico and Angelico lost in dubious fashion to The Infantry
and the laid-back duo looked to right the ship with a win over the first-time pair
LSG has been popping up this year as part of the horribly-named Ace of Space Academy
but professional Dax Harwood impersonator Donavan hasn’t been seen in ROH in over 5 years
It was beef vs bean (string bean that is) as Angelico and Donavan kicked things off
The shorter Donavan had the density of a dying sun
so Angelico wasn’t able to get him off his feet
allowing him to lock in the longest wrist lock I’ve ever seen
Serpentico had to break it up from the top rope
They were able to keep both Donavan and LSG on their heels and making sloppy mistakes
LSG and Donavan got some decent work in against Serpentico
but Serpentico’s speed was able to deke them out and bring in Angelico
Angelico might be part snake the way he was able to slide and slither around LSG
He locked him into a crazy hammerlock/abdominal stretch/airplane spin that caused him to tap out
-ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty cut a promo from backstage
who had entered the Pure Division for the first time last week
in advance of their inevitable PURE Championship match in the future
Spoiler: Moriarty does not think Taven will win
Sammy Guevara (w/Dustin Rhodes) defeated Preston Vance
the reigning ROH Tag Champions were called out
confronted and then jumped by The Righteous
They are looking to take those titles and being The Righteous
they don’t care if they do it in a strictly “legal” way
But it remained to be seen if they would cause some chaos in Guevara’s match with Vance
Guevara gave up a bit to Vance in terms of muscle
but right off the top Guevara’s speed had him in control
That speed came back to bite him though as Vance caught him with a back elbow while he was running the ropes
That didn’t slow Guevara down though as he took Vance to the outside a drove him in to the guardrails
while Rhodes watched diligently for any sign of The Righteous
As much fun as it was watching a guy named Vance get punched in the face
it came to an end when Guevara hit a big cutter followed by a GTH for the win
the lights got all weird and the sound of snapping was heard
Vincent and Dutch were nowhere to be found though
EJ Nduka & Lee Johnson defeated The Philly Marino Experience (Marino Tenaglia & Philly Collins)
Now that Nduka and Johnson have officially joined forces
it’s gotta make a lot of other teams in ROH nervous
Especially The Philly Marino Experience (which sounds like a hip new Tapas spot
by the way) who were making what appears to be their ROH Debut
I’m sure it’ll work out great for them.
Johnson started the match against Tenaglia which was a nice matchup in terms of size and speed
Johnson’s experience gave him the advantage though and he was able to keep Tenaglia off his feet and firmly in a chin lock
Tenaglia didn’t burst into terrified tears
He took a swing ot two and Nduka picked him up like a loaf of bread and threw him across the ring
Collins tagged in and even though he had a bit more size
punched and threw both of them around with ease
Johnson tagged back in and hit a frog splash
pinning what was left of Collins to get the win
but Nduka needs to expand his move set a bit just to keep things interesting
-ROH Women’s Champion Athena called an emergency MEM (Minion Empowerment Meeting) in the back
Athena managed to barely hold onto her title against Abadon last week
so she has some things to say to her MiT’s (Minions In Training)
Athena said the she is ready to take on porcelain hussies all around the world
While Lexy Nair has been loyal to the Forever Champion
Starkz has been pretty moody and uninterested in helping the champion out
Nair put Starkz in Minion Time Out and walked out after the champ
Ellering has been trading fashion tips with Harley Cameron and this match is her return to the ROH ring for the first time since August
Leyla Hirsch has had beef with Diamante for a long
Diamante failed to capture the ROH Women’s TV Title a few weeks back
but did pick up a win last week against Aminah Belmont
Diamante had the adventage off the top because though she be wee
as well as hold Diamante by the waist in a gut wrench suplex
but telegraphed it and Diamante was ready with knees up
Diamante’s mean streak was on display as the dragged Ellering’s face along the rope between turnbuckles
Ellering caught Diamante with a huge back elbow and landed her Squish senton
She raked the eyes while the ref couldn’t see and landed a huge DDT to make Ellering’s night a bad one
Diamante called out ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet who appeared in the ring and hit her with a big spinning kick
Diamante retreated up the ramp while the two debated the places they were from
Hirsch’s last match was the excellent Texas Death Match against Diamante at Death Before Dishonor back in July
Or will she start the climb towards a bigger prize
And will San Antonio get a surprise upset in her ROH Debut
technical style and it looked like her injury hadn’t cost her a step
San Antonio had a bit of a height advantage
but Hirsch was fired up and managed get out of everything San Antonio threw at her
Hirsch managed to catch San Antonio with a huge knee to the head and get the pin to win
looking like she had never left in the first place
Matt Taven responded to Lee Moriarty’s earlier promo
Taven has won every title in ROH except the Pure title
So Moriarty better be ready because Taven’s bringing it home to the Kingdom
stomped down to the ring to face former Nightmare Family member Solo
Solo has not won a match in ROH since April
It almost seemed mean to put Solo up against Ishii
had very little defence against the sheer strength and power of Ishii
Every punch and attempt to send Ishii to the ropes was shrugged off
Ishii unleashed the chops and Solo was lucky his lungs didn’t pop out
Ishii tried to pin Solo off of a side suplex
Solo tried to take the match to the air with a big double stomp from the top rope
Ishii got Solo up and then brought him down with a big Brainbuster and got the pin
-The Righteous headed out to the ring for a match and were immediately jumped by Rhodes and Guevara in payback for the attack by Vincent and Dutch last week
Everyone seemed to forget that there was a match scheduled and the ROH Tag Champs
Rhodes and Guevara stood tall as the Righteous exited up the ramp
Nick Wayne (w/Kip Sabian & Mother Wayne) defeated Ryan Clancy
Wayne has been making some noise for The Patriarchy in ROH recently
this time bringing Mother Wayne and Kip Sabian with him
A couple of weeks ago Wayne came out on top in a match against Brian Cook
he’s up against (checks notes) “Fancy” Ryan Clancy
Clancy ended up being a pretty decent bruiser
wrestling a “classic” style and keeping up with Wayne in both speed and intensity
Wayne had him beat in the posing department though
After a very impressive flurry of Clancy offence
Wayne picket up speed with a series of near falls
Clancy responded with a few near falls of his own
Wayne kicked out every time though while Mother Wayne looked on
but Wayne pushed the Ref into the ropes causing him to fall
Wayne hit a dragon suplex followed by a huge cutter from the corner to get the win
-The Infantry and STP entered the ROH locker room backstage
They were met byt 4 NPC’s dressed in black
Taylor asked if they had seen Rhodes and Guevera
Guevara and Rhodes have several targets on their backs now
ROH Classic Match: ROH World Six Man Tag Team Title Match: Shane Taylor Promotions (Kaun
Moses & Shane Taylor) vs MexiSquad (Bandido
With Taylor and company hunting down the Tag and Six Man Tag belts in ROH
it made sense to see this classic match from the Pandemic era of pro wrestling and
Maria Kanellis joined the commentary team for this match and she added some really fun color
It was a hard-hitting affair and definitely worth 9 minutes of your time
AR Fox defeated Josh Woods (w/Ariya Daivari & Mark Sterling)
Fox got his first ROH singles win three weeks ago against the one and only Jack Cartwheel
He’s looking to add to those stats against the Premier Athlete and Very Large Dude
but Wood’s teammates Daiavari and Sterling accompanied him to the ring
while Tony Nese is still out relentlessly celebrating the birth of his twins.
Sterling added “flogging our new shirt” to his opening schtick as the Athletes came down to the ring
in what can only be assumed was a move of protest
came down to the ring with no shirt on at all
Woods and Fox stood at about the same height
but Woods had the upper pectoral in the muscle department
Woods tried to keep things technical and on the mat where he excels
Fox wasn’t used to that and he seemed confused as to how to proceed
he settled on a headlock while he figured out his strategy
Fox figured out he had the high-flying advantage and hit a big splash on the outside
Fox tried to leap over a running Woods but caught his foot on his opponent and smashed his face into the match
That gave Woods an opening to club a prone Fox
Sterling got involved behind the Ref’s back and hung Fox up on the ropes for Woods to pick apart
but Fox kicked out and spiked Woods on his head with a big second rope DDT
The fight moved to the outside where Fox drove Wood’s head into the mat
Fox went for a springboard from the top rope
but hit his face on Woods’ knee on the way down
but Woods attempted to knock him off the top rope
The agile Fox rolled through though and hit a 450 splash to pick up the surprise win
Then a wild Nick Wayne appeared and took Fox apart
Fox and Wayne have a match coming up on Collision
This match was taped way back in June of this year
One can only assume it fell behind a filing cabinet or something
The Butcher was making his ROH Singles debut here while his partner
That’s because he’s very good at wrestling and hasn’t lost a match in ROH in 2024
Butcher had about 50 lbs and 6 inches on Shibata
Shibata drove him into the corner off the top
leading to Butcher moving into a more technical strategy
It was a big risk taking on one of the best technical wrestlers in the world in his preferred style
He drew Shibata out of the ring and then drove him into the ring apron (the hardest part of the ring!)
Butcher’s powerful strikes kept Shibata on the ground and Butcher locked in a one-legged crab hold
Shibata wrigged under the ropes to break the hold
and sent Butcher to the corner to take a big double dropkick
Butcher fought back and tried to set Shibata up for brain buster
but Shibata countered and put on a sleeper hold followed by a big PK to put the Butcher down for good
comics and pretty much anything else he can get his mitts on
Pro Wrestling has always been his passion for reasons even he doesn't understand

Good to see Joe back in a fun opener to continue the Patriarchy/Hook & Friends feud
This match was originally scheduled for Dynamite

The Patriarchy surrounded Joe before Hook & Shibata came out to ward them off
Joe came back with the uranage in the corner
but Wayne clawed at Joe’s eyes to avoid another Muscle Buster attempt
Wayne hit a rolling Code Red for a nearfall
and Joe laid out Wayne with a sick lariat before scoring with the Muscle Buster for the win
We got a recap of the angle from Dynamite with Will Ospreay
Champion Non-Title Match – AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada defeated ROH TV Champion Komander
with Komander having another good showing against a top-line star in Okada
Komander refused to shake Okada’s hand and used his pace to keep Okada off balance to start the match
Komander hit a tope to the floor before Okada dropped him with a boot
Komander came back with a step-up armdrag to the floor but got caught on a headscissors attempt on the floor and dropped with a DDT
Okada tried to catch another headscissors attempt

Powerhouse Hobbs was waiting in the parking lot for Big Bill
chucking a brick at Hobbs’ head and pinballing him around
but Hobbs ripped a fence door off and hit Bill with it before security separated them
Big Boom AJ & Big Justice were backstage with Lexy Nair
who were interrupted by The Undisputed Kingdom
Adam Cole came in and did the Boom with them
Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong) defeated Daniel Garcia
This is the best way to rehab the Undisputed Kingdom after the MJF feud
by having them earn back their cache in-ring
A solid match here to build a few issues in the midcard
with both teams getting quick tags in before Garcia laid out O’Reilly on the floor for a commercial break
the former Jericho Appreciation Society members were laying into O’Reilly in the corner before O’Reilly fought to his corner
Cole got the hot tag and traded shots with Garcia
dropping him with a neckbreaker over the knee
with Strong running wild with backbreakers
O’Reilly and Strong laid out Menard with double forearms before pinning Parker with a Total Elimination
Both teams shook hands after the match as Shane Taylor Promotions glowered at the scene at ringside
upset that his partner and his mentor turned their backs on him last week
He called himself a survivor and announced an Open Challenge Series
daring people to step up to the Best Wrestler Alive
There was a blink-and-you’ll-miss it tease for Hologram
who has been out on paternity leave recently
Dante was upset that Lio Rush & Action Andretti weren’t in the building
noting that he never wanted Rush in the group to begin with
Andretti had helped them out while Dante was hurt
but Rush bailed on Dante when Darius got hurt prior to that
Darius challenged Rush to a match and promised to send him packing again
as it continues to evolve in a logical way and continues to keep these four talented guys on screen.)
Mariah May & Toni Storm’s Face-To-Face
and I still don’t really understand why Storm pretended to not remember anything
But she got a big pop for the Timeless reveal and cut a good promo
Tony Schiavone was in the ring to moderate the face-to-face between Toni Storm & Mariah May
ready to get this s**t over with in her own words
calling her a joke and a meme before promising to humiliate Storm in her hometown
having followed her career from the UK to Japan to AEW
Storm said that she wanted to be just like May and gave her a hug
May reciprocated before slapping her in the face and laying her out with the title belt
but Storm took the mic and asked why May thought she’d forgotten everything
Storm got back into her Timeless Toni voice and disrobed out of her rocker clothes
revealing that she was playing the role of herself and had given the performance of a lifetime
Storm fired up and said that she would rip May apart in Australia as the crowd went crazy
We got a preview of a long form interview with Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli with Renee Paquette
Hounds of Hell (Brody King & Buddy Matthews) (w/ Julia Hart) defeated Gates Of Agony (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona)
King and Matthews can be a cornerstone team in a rebuilt tag division
and can be a credible threat to the Hurt Syndicate moving forward
King & Matthews came out with a new presentation and a new name as the Hounds of Hell
Matthews and Liona started off before King and Liona traded big shots
Kaun tagged in and helped Liona clubber on King in the corner

Callis noted that this was a different Kenny Omega
one that was bloodthirsty and ready to spill Callis’ blood

but Callis reminded him that a barely focused Omega won three World Titles with Callis by his side
Callis said that Cage was wrong that there were only five of them
with the camera focusing on a sixth plate at the table

I tried to become someone I was not.
After a grueling six months of not feeling like I was “enough” during my summer internship search
I finally received an offer letter to be a newsroom intern in May
My self-esteem was on the floor at that point
I imagined countless worst-case scenarios of my internship being rescinded due to a mistaken offer letter.
regardless of a few blunders of pulling a push door or my inability to locate the office door chime
I felt invincible and ready to conquer anything thrown my way.
Walking into the newsdesk — in a surprising twist — I was told they were not expecting a newsroom intern
I could not get started until I received log-in credentials for a computer.
I spent the day shadowing and observing my new coworkers — how they spoke to each other
the different ways each person dealt with stress
their roles I assumed — writing it all down to quickly learn how the newsroom operated
I thought it was best to keep to myself without bothering anyone
but I regretted that later in the week.
finishing up her six-month trainee program
I immediately sensed a shift in the energy from Grace’s presence from the hours I observed the day before
She was not only amazing at her job but was everyone’s break from a stressful work environment through her laugh that echoed throughout the newsroom and the jokes she made at all the right times.
I could feel the imposter syndrome creeping back into my mind
Despite knowing of Grace’s months of experience
I felt I could never be enough until I became the “new Grace.”
I also quickly learned that her last day was approaching
seeing the disappointment and hearing the despair about her leave from coworkers made the pressure very real.
but seeing her be the polar opposite of my reserved personality made me mark everything about mine as a flaw.
I noticed myself striving to be someone I was not every day
Although my job skills improved daily and I felt more comfortable in that aspect
I could not shake the feeling that my personality — one that is not as extroverted and humorous as Grace — was lacking
In a room full of outgoing and big personalities
I was always taught about and experienced imposter syndrome in skills and achievements
but it never occurred to me that it could be applied elsewhere
I dragged on the weight of becoming her exact replacement
with the arrival of a new intern with a completely different personality and so much to offer
I realized the importance of growing from the influence of others rather than trying to become their replica.
Although I went through a period of attempting to imitate Grace’s every move
I felt the positive impact she made on me since meeting her.
When I stopped trying to become my role model and learned from her instead
I started to add to my sense of self instead of completely changing it
but I have accepted that I just focus on perfecting every task
I now go out of my way to talk to others and step out of my comfort zone to voice my opinions more to balance out my “seriousness.”
sometimes it is necessary to experience it to overcome it.
Difficult experiences can sometimes be labeled as unnecessary
there is always a way to use such experiences to your advantage.

In the world of high-stakes investments, few accomplishments rival the successful mobilization of capital for ambitious, sustainable projects. The stakes in these ventures are exceptionally high: if an investment fails to deliver, it reflects poorly on both the investment firm and the client, who expected gains from the project. Yet, when such capital is effectively allocated, and the project thrives, the results can be remarkable.
Tatiane Shibata stands out as a seasoned global infrastructure investment expert with nearly 15 years dedicated to dealing with execution, due diligence, asset management, and fund underwriting. Her transactional experience spans sectors such as renewable energy, energy transition, power distribution, transmission, and digital infrastructure across regions including North America, Latin America, and Europe.
Today, we will delve into some of Tatiane's most significant projects, including supporting the formation of the $15 billion Brookfield Global Transition Fund (BGTF I), the largest private fund dedicated to net-zero initiatives.
Additionally, we'll explore two key transactions Tatiane and her team at IMCO successfully executed: a $500 million investment in Scala Data Centers, a leading data center platform in Latin America, and a $1 billion commitment to NextWind, a German renewable energy platform focused on repowering wind assets. Tatiane's leadership across these projects highlights her prowess in mobilizing capital to fuel large-scale, sustainable investments.

But I warned him about stepping into the most dangerous man in AEW
and I will smack your bald ass right back down again
I’m sorry I couldn’t bring Nana here with me
safeguarding the Embassy robe so I can focus on the big
important things and the AEW World Championship
we’re talking about the top prize with the best roster in the world
History repeats itself because I will be standing across the ring from the AEW World Champion in three weeks
and I will have a chance to lead the dynasty once again
you have Jon Moxley facing off against Cope for the AEW Championship once again in a street fight
I looked up to that man pretty much all my life since I was a kid
he was the man who took me under his wing and taught me what it was like to really seize the opportunity
you don’t become dangerous without learning from Rated-R
Cope; I’m going to reiterate something that you taught me a long time ago: Whether you are a challenger
but you are standing in the way of the future of All Elite Wrestling
You don’t become that without being an elite-level performer
I used to really think that I and you were cut from the same cloth until you mentioned that there’s nobody in the back that can hold down the World Championship as you can
I really don’t believe you believe what you’re saying
I don’t believe you believe anything of what you’re saying
so much that we got to listen to this dribble every week
Desperation is all you’re going to have to hold on to because to catch a maniac
Moxley jumped Strickland from behind with a crowbar to the back of the knee
driving Strikland’s reputed eardrum to the mat
(Brian’s Thoughts: Excellent promo from Strickland
You saw and felt the pose of someone who wants to be the face of the company
A good angle for Moxley to get involved without the Death Riders.)
and Rosa confirmed that she would wrestle Megan Bayne later tonight
(5) HOLOGRAM & TOP FLIGHT (Dante Martin & Darius Martin) vs
SHANE TAYLOR PROMOTIONS (Carlie Bravo & Lee Moriarty & Shawn Dean w/Shane Taylor)
Action Andretti set up chairs on the ramp to watch the match
Hologram and Moriarty battled to see who could get a bridge pin over the other
Dante hit Dean with a dropkick and started to talk trash to Rush and Andretti
which allowed Dean and Bravo to hit kicks to the face toward Dante
Darius hit Dean with a flat liner for a near fall
Dean and Bravo double-teamed Darius and went for a pin attempt
The match broke down and everyone hit big moves
Top Flight hit a German suplex double team onto Bravo to secure the pinfall victory for his team
WINNERS: Hologram & Top Flight in 9:08
-After the match Top Flight starred down Rush and Andretti
-Hologram and Komander challenged LFI to a tag team match
Rosa walked down to the ring with tapped ribs
selling the attack from Bayne earlier on the night
Rosa bull-rushed Bayne with three drop kicks in the corner
followed by Rosa laying in a hard chop to Bayne’s chest
Bayne took Rosa down with a shoulder block
While Rosa tried to regain her balance on the apron
both women exchanged forearm shots in the middle of the ring
and followed up with a dropkick to the floor
Bayne grabbed Rosa and hit an F-5 to the ramp
Rosa crawled to the ring to beat the countout
(Brian’s Thoughts: AEW did an excellent job selling the story of this match throughout the night
I hope AEW continues to add these details to the Women’s Division
you need to see how Bayne looks and sounds on a live promo
but AEW could pivot from that and allow someone like Stokely Hathaway to be her mouthpiece in the interim
Rosa did a great job working underneath as the baby face and selling her injury.)
-Post-match continued to beat down Rosa after the match
but Bayne won the exchange and laid out Storm with an F-5
(7) UNDISPUTED KINGDOM (Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong) vs
Adam Cole and Daniel Garcia joined the commentary team for the match
The crowd chanted ” Tag Team Wrestling.” The Undisputed Kingdom hit a double-team suplex on Wheeler and went for a pin attempt but only got a one-count
Harwood went for a powerdriver but Strong avoided it
so he didn’t see the tag for O’Reilly
FTR hit the heart attack on Strong and got a close near fall
Strong hit a backbody drop suplex and finally got the out tag into O’Reilly
The Undisputed Kingdom had stereo ankle locks on FTR
Harwood climbed to the top rope to hit a diving headbutt to make sure O’Reilly released the submission on Wheeler
FTR hit the Steiner bulldog from the top rope and got another close near fall
Undisputed Kingdom hit double knees to the face of Harwood
and all four men lay in the middle of the ring
FTR hit the Shatter Machine on Strong and went for a cover
but O’Reilly made the save to break up the pin attempt
Strong was able to get his knees up in time to block the splash from Wheeler
but Harwood pushed O’Reilly out of the way
and FTR hit the Shatter Machine onto Strong to secure the pinfall victory
-Adam Cole and Daniel Garcia squared off post-match to promote their upcoming TNT match
FINAL THOUGHTS: A 7 out of 10 for this show
where you needed an excellent follow-up week after AEW Revolution
as you got an essential table-setting episode of Dynamite on Wednesday and a better in-ring product for Collision

And because Joe is challenging Jon Moxley for the AEW World title in a couple weeks at Beach Break
you knew Death Riders would show up at some point
They waited until after the match this time
Wheeler Yuta led Hobbs on a chase while Joe got the champ in a choke on the stage
That allowed Marina Shafir and Claudio Castagnoli to slip into the ring and take out Katsuyori Shibata the same way they did HOOK earlier this month
Death Riders hit the bricks when Joe got to the ring
but the Samoan Submission Machine still had a message for Mox about their upcoming clash
You should listen to @SamoaJoe. He's a cool dude. #AEWDynamite pic.twitter.com/tZom6bsY7o

Rocky Romero is a wrestler who works at ROH/AEW
Aaron Solo is also employed as a wrestler for ROH/AEW
That seemed to be pretty much the only reason that these two locked up
It was a little surprising to see this match kick off such a jam-packed show
but it gave these two a chance to show the kind of workers they are
Solo was a little lighter on his feet and managed to trade holds with Romero until Romero got a little silly and began tapping the back of Solo’s head
Romero started taking Solo seriously though as Solo was able to get some lighthearted taps of his own in
Solo is one of the top contenders for the ROH TV Title
so a win over Romero would help his case in the regard
That showed as Solo controlled the pace of the match until Romero caught him in a abdominal stretch
bringing some energy to the match and going for high-impact offence like hurricanranas and multiple big back elbows in the corner
but it wasn’t enough to put Romero down
Romero answered back with a super bulldog off the top rope
and Romero was able to get the pin and win the match
She wants a shot at the Women’s World TV Title and called out Red Velvet asking for a Proving Ground match
Lee Johnson defeated Nick Comoroto (w/Jacoby Watts)
This match was taped prior to Comoroto getting injured and having to step back until well into next year
it was a bittersweet match for the big man
Johnson nearly became ROH TV Champion on two occasions this year
Johnson took advantage and sent Comoroto out of the ring
sending Johnson into the ring post head first
like so many Rey Mysterios being “lawn-darted” by the NWO
Comoroto’s size was becoming a problem for Johnson
Comoroto whipped Johnson from post to post
Watts got involved to the chagrin of the crowd and Johnson looked like he was about to give up a rare loss
Comoroto clubbed him back down to his feet
Johnson finally countered a suplex into one of his own
It didn’t last long though as Comoroto regained the momentum
But then Watts got up in the ring apron and distracted Comoroto enough to allow Johnson to get a quick rollup and the win
Comoroto and Watts started a beatdown on Johnson
but EJ Nduka arrived from the crowd to make the save and send the heels running
there was an announcement from Tony Khan: Tonight
Red Velvet would face Lady Frost in a Proving Ground match
Ellering lost last week to RevPro Women’s Champion Mina Shirakawa in a hard fought battle
so this week she was looking to get that momentum back on her side
Ellering has also been dealing with a snarky Harley Cameron lurking about
Rey actually had Ellering on her heels off the top of the match
Rey made a mistake when she tried to outpower Ellering
and found herself on the receiving end of a big shoulder tackle for her trouble
Lots of hard strikes and devastating kicks
Rye tried to use her speed to get one over on Ellering
but Ellering’s experience and strength were too much for her
A spinning Bosswoman slam took out Rey for good
Anthony Henry & BEEF defeated Jay Lucas & Terry Yaki
Beef showed some skill that led us to believe he’s not just a wild
The crowd chanted “Beef!” as the match began
Henry sent his cousin to the outside and started things off
Beef hit a blind tag so that he got to start things off against Lucas
Beef’s enthusiasm and strength had him in control
but also caused him to make rookie mistakes when facing Yaki
Beef powered through and brought Yaki to his and Henry’s corner
Henry worked the neck of Yaki like a horse (see what I did there?) and then the same against Lucas
Beef called for the tag and immediately tried to pin Lucas
which confused Henry who was expecting a double team
Beef climbed the ring post and delivered a big splash on Lucas to get the pin
but a little concerned about Beef’s over-enthusiasm
leaving up the ramp to let him celebrate in the ring
Spanish Announce Project (Angelico & Serpentico) defeated Iron Savages (Boulder & Bronson) (w/Jacked Jameson)
This match pitted some really high-energy and beefy citizens of Titty City against the smooth and laid back jams of the Spanish Announce Project
It was an interesting clash of styles with the winners inching ever closer to a shot at Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara’s ROH Tag Titles
Jameson did a great Scott Steiner ’99 promo on the way down to the ring that was full of energy and catchphrases
Angelico kicked things off against Bronson and right away it was a great juxtaposition of speed and agility vs brawn and brutality
bringing in the fastest man int he match vs the strongest man in the match
Serpentico managed to avoid the big man at first
but was caught between a Boulder and a Bronson place
he ducked and the two Savaged collided though
Jameson took the opportunity to throw Serpentico at the barricade on the outside
Serpentico got a hot tag into Angelico who cleared the ring
Angelico hit a flatliner on Bronson and Serpentico followed it up with a big frog splash
Angelico got a toehold on Bronson and flipped him over
PROVING GROUND MATCH: ROH Women’s Television Champion Red Velvet defeated Lady Frost
This surprise match was booked by Tony Khan himself earlier in the evening
If Frost could last 10 minutes or pin the Champion
she would earn a shot at Velvet’s ROH Women’s TV Title
Winning a Proving Ground match would be huge for Frost
The two were pretty evenly matched with neither women getting the jump on the other off the top and each move being met with a countermove
All she had to do was last 10 minutes and she’d get her title shot
and seemed to be taking her opponent seriously
Frost began to overpower Velvet with some handspring strikes in the corner
Frost locked in a chinlock with Velvet in the middle of the ring
Velvet reversed it into an abdominal stretch
Frost planted Velvet with a cartwheel powerbomb
Velvet hit a hip-toss neckbreaker out of nowhere and the two rolled around in pinning combinations until Velvet finally got the three-count on Frost
-Taya Valkyrie joined us backstage and hyped up her match later with Mina Shirakawa
Valkyrie was offended by Shirakawa being in ROH
That brought out the RevPro Women’s champ herself who shook her money makers at Valkyrie who walked off in a huff
Lance Archer & The Righteous (Dutch & Vincent) defeated Lights
he was beating up someone named “Ozzy” for reasons known only to him
he re-joins his compatriots Dutch and Vincent
These three haven’t exactly been known to follow rules and seem more interested in hurting their opponents
so who knows what we would get here.
No one bothered to mention the names of the members of Lights Camera Faction
so the one I’ll call Lights* kicked things off against Vincent
He didn’t last long though as Archer tagged in
He no sold some strikes from Camera** before absolutely levelling him
That brought in Dutch and Faction*** who dutch laid out and setup Orange Sunshine
Archer delivered a Black out to Faction and scored the pin
even though it was somewhat pointless and chaotic
Diamante planted James on her fast about thirty seconds into the match to get the pin in a textbook squash
Diamante beat up James a bit after the match
but Red Velvet made a triumphant return from 15 minutes ago to break it up and run Diamante off
-Lee Johnson was interviewed backstage about EJ Nduka saving him from Comoroto and Watts
Johnson called him a friend and NDuka joined him in a sweet Kylo Ren t-shirt
Nduka said that he was The Judge and Johnson getting jumped after matches was over because he was here to protect his back
Griff Garrison (w/Maria) defeated Angelo Parker
Two men without their tag team partners went head to head in this singles bout
The wild(est) card would of course be Maria
She no longer has Serpentico’s mask to keep her company
so she pushed Garrison hard to win this match and give them a reason to keep going.
Garrison tried to mock Parker for being short (which was kind of laughable as he only had about an inch of height on him) and Parker took that opportunity to kick him in the shins
Garrison responded with some stiff uppercuts
driving Parker into the corner while Maria chirped on the outside
Garrison seemed to have everything under control
Parker managed to dodge Garrison and deliver a big clothesline and running neckbreaker
Parker hit a big elbow on Garrison and Maria jumped up on the apron
She pretended to toss her boot in the ring
and while the ref was distracted she hit Parker with the other one
Garrison capitalized and pinned the dazed Parker
The Premier Athletes (Ariya Daivari & Tony Nese) (w/Mark Sterling) defeated Joe Alonzo & Josiah Jean
Mark Sterling has been pushing the Premier Athletes down our throats the last few weeks
with Nese losing to Lio Rush and Daivari taking a pin from The Conglomeration’s Tomohiro Ishii last week.
Nese started thing off by throwing Alonzo to the mat as if he was a bag of feathers
Nese dragged him to Daivari in the corner and the two double teamed Alonzo
Nese and Daivari had the advantage of being teammates and their cohesion was hard for Alonzo and Jean to get around
Jean tried to help his partner but was clothselined to the outside for his trouble
A lawn dart cutter combo led to a big splash from Daivari and a pin to get the Premier Athletes the win
John Silver (w/Alex Reynolds & Evil Uno) defeated Fuego Del Sol
The Dark Order has been cranky as heck the last few weeks
furious that Dustin Rhodes and the Von Erichs have been able to hold on to their ROH Six-Man tag titles
it was pretty much three on one before the match even started
the two locked up with Del Sol coming out on top and Silver sliding out of the ring to get some advice from Uno and Reynolds
Del Sol hit a big moonsault on Uno and Reynolds to break up the party and brought things back into the ring with Silver
Silver got the momentum on his side with a series of kicks
He fought back until Silver silenced him with a suplex
He then locked in a chinlock to try and get Del Sol to tap
but no dice as the luchadore fought out and delivered some European uppercuts in the corner
Silver used his power to catch Del Sol and suplex him
Del Sol fought back with a stomp to the head though and set up a tornado DDT
distracting everyone so Uno could attack from behind unnoticed
Silver hit a spinning backbreaker and pinned Del Sol for the win
Abadon has had her spooky sights on the ROH Women’s Championship
She’s driven legit fear into the heart of the champion on more than one occasion
so the notion of Athena looking to spread some fear of her own was on everyone’s mind as the match kicked off.
but had never faced anything quite like Abadon
Chanel wasn’t able to get any kind of momentum in against Abadon
with the Living Dead Girl no-selling all of Chanel’s offense
Abadon hit a devastating cutter and a Black Dahlia to pin Chanel and get the win
Katsuyori Shibata defeated Josh Woods (w/Mark Sterling)
the lone singles winner amongst the Premier Athletes lately
he’d be looking down the barrel of a former ROH Pure Champion in Shibata
“The Wrestler” was a specifically boring create-a-wrestler I used to make in Wrestlemania 2000
speed and much more when applied to Shibata
The two locked up and Woods’ strategy seemed to be to keep Shibata off his feet
The two engaged in a really fun technical swapping of holds and moves
A frustrated Woods knocked Shibata to the outside
Woods tossed the smaller Shibata back into the ring and began stomping a Texas-sized mudhole on him in the corner
Shibata switched on the aggression and managed to reverse Woods into the corner and hit a big dropkick
Shibata reversed a suplex into a sleeper though and Sterling jumped up to cause a distraction
Shibata ran him off and hit an STO on Woods followed by a cross armbreaker
Mina Shirakawa defeated Taya Valkyrie (w/Johnny TV)
As Shirakawa was celebrating her win over Rachael Ellering
but the fly in the ointment was Valkyrie’s husband
Shirakawa’s dancing seemed to enrage Valkyrie
Valkyrie sent Shirakawa to the corner for some big stomps
putting her on her heels right from the start
Valkyrie dig into her bag of dirty tricks early
leaving her hobbling and trying to get a quick pin
Shirakawa locked in a figure four on Valkyrie who pulled herself to the ropes to break it
clubbing and pounding on Shirakawa while TV cheered her on
Stopping for a quick makeout on the outside with TV
Valkyrie tried to throw Shirakawa into the barricade
but Shirakawa ducked it and headed back to the ring
bit it was a possum play as Shirakawa was able to grab Valkyrie’s leg when she came in for a kick
On the outside a miscommunication between husband and wife saw TV and Valkyrie crash into each other
giving Shiarakawa a chance to hit a big splash on them both from the top rope
Shirakawa hit a massive kick on Valkyrie’s jaw
Shirakawa set up Valkyrie for a big splash from the top of the ringpost
followed by a blue thunder bomb for a two-count
Valkyrie tried to get Shirakawa up for a surfboard
but Shirakawa reversed it into a second Figure Four
She held it on Valkyrie in the middle of the ring until Valkyrie was forced to tap
As the TV family slunk away Shirakawa celebrated with the crowd as the show when off the air

Make no mistake: Jason Shibata isn't ready to pass the competitive torch just yet
Just when the 29-year-old starts talking about a life after pro surfing life
he turns in the biggest result of his career
to take first place in the $25,000 Sponsor Me Hawaii
Shibata's win of this 2-star rated Association of Surfing Professionals event earned him $5,000 and a long-awaited turn on the victory dais
Shibata couldn't have written the script any better for himself: Perfect five-foot surf at his childhood stomping ground of Ala Moana Bowls with all of his peers there to enjoy it with him
opting for something a little less crowded and intense
But the opportunity to dominate the coveted South Shore lineup with just three others out was one he couldn't help but put to good use
which earned him an 8.6 and ultimately clinched the final
“I was tripping because I wasn't really in the spot (for the tube),” said Shibata
it started off really tight and almondy and I'm going for it
But it let me out and from then on I had a huge smile on my face and thought
Along with his fellow finalists Kai Barger (Haiku
Shibata surfed through five rounds over 11 hours today
It was a grueling day that was well worth the effort
Barger gave Shibata the best run for his money
putting it all on the line to the final horn where he popped a reverse air 360
“We had a pretty good pulse of waves for half an hour so everybody was relaxed and knew that we could all get at least two good chances to bang ‘um and Shibats just got us.”
Worthy of a special mention today was downtown Honolulu civil engineer Gregg Nakamura
who took a day off work and took down former world champion Sunny Garcia in his opening heat of the morning
Nakamura had also posted heat wins over both Shibata and Barger
He's now considering a trip to Las Vegas to test his lucky streak; while he was in the water taking out heats
his wife won a Sponsor Me lucky draw surfboard
closely followed by his cousin from out of town who was also drawn at random to win a board
Granger Larsen and Kai Barger in the round of 64: “That was the gnarliest heat I've ever been in in my life!” said Nakamura
“It was the most anticipated heat of the round
usually I'm behind the computer watching these guys on the live webcast
and Vita Coco partnered to present the Sponsor Me Hawaii – a critically important event of the local surfers on three levels: International ratings points
the opportunity to win prize money and the chance to claim a spot in the coveted year-end $1,000,000 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing series
RESULTS: All surfers from Hawaii unless noted otherwise
Semi-Finals: H1: Casey Brown; Pancho Sullivan; Kalani Robb; Solomon Ortiz H2: Kai Barger; Jason Shibata; Dustin Cuizon; Makuakai Rothman
Quarter Finals: H1: Kalani Robb; Casey Brown; Alex Smith; Myles Padaca H2: Pancho Sullivan; Solomon Ortiz; Tyler Newton; Liam McNamara H3: Makuakai Rothman; Dustin Cuizon; Jonah Morgan; Gregg Nakamura H4: Kai Barger; Jason Shibata; Joel Centeio; Flynn Novak

features Shibata Megumi’s original designs based on Torigoe bamboo weaving
A small gallery in Tokyo recently held an exhibit on bamboo weaving from the small community of Torigoe in Iwate Prefecture
The show was a valuable chance to see creations by Shibata Megumi
a leading figure in the Torigoe handicraft tradition
which boasts roots stretching back more than 1,000 years
and now only a handful of artisans still produce the bags
and other everyday items that Torigoe is famous for
a cozy venue tucked away in a residential area of Bunkyō in the center of the capital
opened the exhibition space in a corner of her home to showcase different weaving traditions from around Japan
Shibata is the leading figure in efforts to preserve the Torigoe bamboo weaving tradition
Hori and Shibata in 2023 launched a crowdfunding campaign to publish a book highlighting the history and beauty of Torigoe bamboo handicraft
raising awareness and fostering appreciation of the ancient art
There is much to admire about Torigoe weaving
Bags and other items made in the style are beguilingly light
maturing to an amber hue with time and use
A Torigoe bamboo handbag
a type of dwarf bamboo native to Japan and other parts of Asia
Shibata explains that the variety has long been a vital resource for making the familiar tools of rural life—everything from draining baskets for noodles to bentō boxes to farm baskets used in fields
“I grew up surrounded by it,” she declares
Lauding the sturdiness of the weaving style
she insists that most items will last for decades
Shibata Megumi during an exhibit of her work at Gallery Keian
The beauty and practicality of Torigoe bamboo weaving won the approval of Yanagi Sōetsu (1889–1961), a leading figure of the mingei folk arts movement
Impressed by the practical nature of items
Yanagi praised the tradition as epitomizing yō no bi (用の美)
a concept encapsulating the beauty intrinsic in the crafts themselves and in their usage in daily life
The show at Gallery Keian spanned eight days and served to highlight the growing interest in Shibata’s creations
A large-scale mingei exhibition currently touring Japan also features a selection of her works
Torigoe bamboo weaving draws people with its quality and handmade craftsmanship
is facing an existential threat to its survival as the population of artisans dwindle with age
a situation that is deeply intertwined with the history of Torigoe and the characteristics of suzutake bamboo itself
Mount Torigoe shimmers in the Iwate sunshine
is said to have been founded in the early ninth century by the priest Ennin (794–864)
Ennin is also credited with introducing bamboo weaving to the area
the monk encouraged residents to pray to Kannon and forbade them from consuming meat
as hunting supplemented the meager diets of the farming community
Ennin is said to have introduced bamboo weaving as a means for residents to support themselves
The story is likely apocryphal, as archeological evidence from excavations at nearby Goshono, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing of ancient sites in northern Japan, includes items made from woven suzutake that date to the prehistoric Jōmon period
This has not impacted Shibata’s reverence for the Kannon
The worshiper’s path (left) and the steep staircase of the Torigoe Kannon’s Okuno-in
the tradition of bamboo weaving is intricately intertwined with the Torigoe Kannon
She rises early on the monthly holy days associated with the bodhisattva of compassion and mercy and travels to the temple to pay her respects
noting that she also pays heed to Buddhist precepts against eating meat
even to the point of not consuming soup stock produced with niboshi dried fish
“The whole family was involved—kids
so there wasn’t time to teach techniques
You just picked it up by watching and doing.”
The weaving process starts with a trip into the surrounding forest to collect bamboo
something that Shibata says she learned to do by helping her father
Suzutake is much thinner than other types of bamboo
and several stalks are needed to make even simple items
making the excursions time-consuming and tiring endeavors
Collecting suzutake in the forest
After harvesting
and allowed to dry (left) before it is shaved down to a uniform thickness using a special device
suzutake in the Torigoe area has been withering at an alarming rate
Records show a similar occurrence in the 1780s and again in 1897
suggesting die-offs happen every 120 years or so
Little is known about what triggers the phenomenon
and experts warn that it could take as many as 20 years for the bamboo to fully recover
and there’s no guarantee that climate change won’t worsen the situation,” she says with concern
Given the current challenges that Torigoe already faces
a pause of that length would spell almost certain doom
Shibata is determined to overcome the crisis
“I’ve cut back on the number of items I make to extend my stock of suzutake—I should have enough to last me another year or two
If I have to use a different variety of bamboo to tide me over
she recognized the need to bring the designs of her creations into line with the changing needs of customers
she has come up with items like a wallet-sized shoulder bag capable of holding a smartphone and different styles of bags based on classic and popular designs
Shibata’s creations range from traditional items like kōri storage baskets (left) to fashionable handbags inspired by the “M-style” items produced for export in Matsumoto
“Artisans typically have certain items that they specialize in,” Shibata explains
“I’m somewhat different in that I don’t have any one field that I focus on
handbags—whatever.” Shibata insists that this gives her the freedom to be imaginative in her designs
“My creativity is my strong point.”
Torigoe bamboo weaving runs in Shibata’s family
Both of her parents were accomplished artisans
although she herself did not initially intend to carry on the tradition
her mother’s sudden illness when Shibata was in her 30s changed everything
and was caring for her young family when her mother collapsed
She made the difficult decision to return home
but coming back to weaving after so many years away was challenging
Complicating matters was her mother’s diminished ability to communicate her skills and knowledge
“Her physical condition—she had become paraplegic at the time—made it difficult for her to demonstrate techniques to me,” recounts Shibata
so her explanations went right over my head.”
Shibata regrets not learning more from her mother while she could
but says that even after so many years away
she discovered that many of the skills she had acquired in her childhood remained with her
“It was almost as if my fingers knew what to do on their own
I quickly became absorbed in working out the different techniques.”
When Shibata returned to Torigoe in the late 1980s
the community still boasted a healthy population of artisans
a situation that combined with other factors placed the tradition’s survival in jeopardy
“Today there are only about ten or twenty people still active,” Shibata explains
“I’m the baby of the group.”
The most pressing issue for Shibata is bringing up a new generation of artisans
This has meant letting in outsiders—some of whom are showing interest in learning the craft—something that was unthinkable in the past
families in Torigoe wouldn’t even allow their daughters to marry outside the community for fear others would steal their weaving techniques,” she says
She has relegated such insular thinking to the dustbin of history and now runs her own school
“Bamboo weaving is a skill best learned gradually through trial and error,” she explains
“But there really isn’t room for such a leisurely approach
If the tradition dies out before it can be passed on to a new generation
then it’s gone forever.” To avoid this heart-wrenching possibility
Shibata has changed her approach to speed the teaching process along
breaking down the different techniques into their different parts to help build her students’ abilities in a shorter amount of time
Shibata remains focused on honing her craft
Her current aim is on making a double-weave basket called an oboke similar to what her mother made before she fell ill
“I’ve wanted to try my hand at one for a while,” she says
She has kept the basket her mother wove nearby for inspiration and feels she is nearly ready
“I came up with a completely new design that I’m keen to try out.”
Shibata’s dog Chako watches over an oboke basket
Shibata and her fellow artisans face an uncertain road ahead in preserving Torigoe suzutake bamboo weaving
They will need to tap into unknown markets with novel products and build new networks of fans and supporters
It is unreasonable to expect them to go it alone
Government assistance in the endeavor will be a must
but average citizens must also realize they have a role to play in sustaining traditional handicrafts
One hopes that Shibata’s efforts will take root and bear fruit for Torigoe for another 1,000 years

Aniplex announced on Friday that Yokusaru Shibata's Tōjima Tanzaburō wa Kamen Rider ni Naritai (Tanzaburo Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider) manga is getting an anime adaptation. The logo for the anime lists the title in English as Tojima Tanzaburo Wants to be a Masked Rider
Shibata drew a visual to commemorate the announcement
The manga follows the titular Tanzaburo Tojima
a man who has just turned 40 and who still seriously dreams of becoming a Kamen Rider
Just as he is about to give up on this dream
he gets caught up in a "false Shocker" robbery
Shibata launched the manga with cooperation from Ishimori Production and Toei in the Monthly Hero's magazine in 2018
and the manga moved to the Comiplex website
Hero's published the 15th compiled volume on September 28
The anime will have a stage presentation at the Aniplex booth at the AnimeJapan 2025 event on March 23 at 1:05 p.m
which will reveal the cast for Tojima Tanzaburo along with other new information

The mammalian circadian clock drives the temporal coordination in cellular homeostasis and it leads the day-night fluctuation of physiological functions
The mammalian circadian clock system in the body is classified hierarchically into two classes
the central clock in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the hypothalamus and the peripheral clocks in peripheral tissues such as the intestine and liver
as well as other brain areas outside the SCN
The circadian rhythm of various tissue-specific functions is mainly controlled by each peripheral clock and partially by the central clock as well
and metabolic capacities of nutrients also show the day-night variations in several peripheral tissues such as small intestine and liver
It is therefore indicated that the bioavailability or metabolic capacity of nutrients depends on the time of day
the postprandial response of blood triacylglycerol to a specific diet and glucose tolerance exhibit clear time-of-day effects
Meal frequency and distribution within a day are highly related to metabolic functions
and optimal time-restricted feeding has the potential to prevent several metabolic dysfunctions
we summarize the time-of-day-dependent postprandial response of macronutrients to each meal and the involvement of circadian clock system in the time-of-day effect
the chronic beneficial and adverse effects of meal time and eating pattern on metabolism and its related diseases are discussed
we discuss the timing-dependent effects of exercise on the day-night variation of exercise performance and therapeutic potential of time-controlled-exercise for promoting general health
This negative feedback loop of clock genes exists in nearly all tissues in mammals
Transcriptional and translational negative feedback loop of core molecular clocks in mammals
The heterodimer of CLOCK and BMAL1 activates the transcription of Crys
The translated and phosphorylated PERIODs and CRYs form a complex along with CKIε/δ and then this complex is translocated into the nucleus to inhibit its own transcription induced by the heterodimer of CLOCK and BMAL1 (blue lines)
A part of phosphorylated CRYs and PERIODs is degraded via ubiquitin-proteasome pathways
The translated REV-ERBs and RORs inhibits and activates the transcription of Bmal1 and Clock genes via binding to RORE
The rhythmic expression of Ccgs results in oscillation of several physiological functions (Crys
Retinoid-related orphan receptors; Rev-erbs
Clock-controlled genes; CKIε/δ
we discuss the time-dependent physiological response to nutrients and a role of circadian clock in these time-dependent effects
we also summarize the time-dependent effects of exercise on physiological functions and athletic performance
Although there are many reports focusing on the postprandial metabolic response to a single meal
it is rare that the research focuses on the comparison between metabolic responses to breakfast
we review the time-of-day effects on the postprandial metabolic responses of macronutrients and the influence of circadian rhythm to these time-of-day effects
developed and used the two-meals-per-day feeding model
The blood levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) are higher in the mice fed with a fish oil during the time of activity onset compared with that during the onset of inactive phase
suggesting that feeding-time dependent therapeutic effects of fish oil rely on the temporal capacity of intestinal absorption of DHA and EPA
thus highlighting the importance of alignment between both rhythms for prevention of diabetes in shift-workers
the diurnal variation of glucose tolerance is regulated by both endogenous and behavioral rhythms
and the molecular clock in peripheral tissues drives endogenous rhythms such as glucose uptake and insulin secretion
These data suggest that the postprandial amino acids response in humans depends on the feeding time
It suggests that consuming high calorie meal during the night induces the dysfunctions of lipid and glucose metabolisms even if the feeding window is shortened
Mechanistic insight into the effects of time-restricted-feeding during active or sleep phase
Upper left panel: In standard-diet-fed mice
timing of the entrainment cues between feeding cycle and central clock is matched for peripheral clocks
Upper right panel: High-fat-diet not only induced metabolic dysfunction due to a high calorie but also arrhythmic feeding cycle
This dysregulation of feeding cycle attenuates the feeding-induced-entrainment of peripheral clocks
Lower left panel: TRF during active phase rescues the attenuation of peripheral clock functions due to perturbation of feeding cycle
Lower right panel: Although TRF during sleep phase also entrains peripheral clocks
timing of the entrainment cues between feeding cycle and central clock is mismatched
It is suggested that this mismatch partially attenuates the beneficial effects of TRF
the diurnal regulation of DNA synthesis is not affected by TRF
the rest-phase-TRF leads to the mismatch of temporal regulations between DNA synthesis and repair
resulting in the increased sensitivity to UVB-induced DNA damage
could be effective for the maintenance of several biological functions
while TRF during the sleep phase might attenuate muscle and skin functions as compared to TRF during the active phase
It is a possibility that the different training conditions
and the passive warm-up effect of the environment may have influenced the results
Figure 3. Scheme for effect of training-time on diurnal physical performance. The muscle performance exhibits diurnal variation with the peak at afternoon and the trough at morning and night (dotted line). This diurnal characteristic of muscle performance is changed by training and its effect depends on the time of day (93)
Morning training increases the performance in morning resulting in the low amplitude (blue line)
while evening training increases it in the evening resulting in the high amplitude (red line)
suggesting that the morning exercise promotes the reactivity of vasodilation
the net change of blood pressure is not evaluated under the adjusted condition described before
thus it is possible that some effects of morning exercise mask by the morning surge
thus it is possible that evening exercise progress the circadian disturbance of blood pressure via a phase-delay of circadian rhythm
Further studies are required to evaluate the effect of exercise both in terms of hypotensive effect and circadian rhythm is required for the control of circadian blood pressure in hypertensive subjects
it is possible that the beneficial timing of exercise is different by your aim
exercise in the evening is better for the induction of muscle hypertrophy
while in the morning is better for the prevention of muscle loss
because there are few studies in this field called chrono-exercise
further studies are expected to generate strong and conclusive evidence
acute response of fat oxidation to exercise is greater in the evening while the longer effects of exercise on fat oxidation are observed before breakfast
further evidence is needed to discuss the effects of exercise timing in the context of therapeutic effects and its circadian rhythms

Legendary Japanese voice actor and narrator Hidekatsu Shibata — known for his roles in classic anime series – continues to rock at the age of 87
Having started working as a TV personality in 1953
Shibata later ruled the anime world with roles in Mr
Baron Ashura in Mazinger Z and Count Mecha in Galaxy Express 999 as well as famous anime series such as: Monkey D
Fuhrer King Bradley in Fullmetal Alchemist and more
“When I started animation began as part of early childhood education
but there were very few actors willing to appear in it,” he said
“My first appearance in an anime series called Ken the Wolf Boy was done at the recommendation of a producer at Toei Animation
I founded the voice production company ‘Aoni Productions’ with my university classmate Kubo Susumu
and from there I began to work as a full-fledged voice actor,” he added
Shibata said that he likes all the works that he has been in them equally
listening and trying are important nourishment for an actor
I’ve been blessed to have been able to star in works and characters that everyone knows.”
About the most inspirational thing from Japanese culture that he has adapted into his daily life
Shibata said: “I’ve specialized in Edo literature and national theater (kabuki) at university
I think that is the origin of what is now known as the Shibata style.”
X from the original ‘Tiger Mask’ was his first major role in an anime series
he said: “I don’t know why I was chosen for the role as I didn’t do audition for it
and I don’t know about any sales efforts by agencies
I was told about most roles after I was selected for it.”
“my role as Calgara from ‘Skypiea Arc’ in One Piece was also memorable.”
Shibata is known as the voice of Hiruzen Sarutobi in Naruto franchise
The third Hokage died in a fierce battle with Orochimaru
but as an actor it’s gratifying that this line
fire burns…the shadow of the fire illuminates the village
and the leaves sprout again,” has lived on for years to come”
“Japanese ninja stories are popular all over the world
Perhaps it’s something like ‘One and Only Flower in the World.’ Just like One Piece
I don’t perform any of my works with particular awareness of popularity,” he added
About the main changes between the skills and working conditions of voice actors between the past and present
Shibata said: “What’s expected of a voice actor has changed with the times
Our generation gained popularity with exaggerated acting in the early days of anime
It’s a bit tricky to say whether you can make a living just from your appearance fee for anime
Even for voice actors who are blessed with popular characters
their appearance fee for anime is not as high as people might imagine.”
Hidekatsu Shibata was one of the international celebrities who was invited to CFCC event in Kuwait last month and he was very pleased to meet the fans at the event
Jordan and Saudi Arabia in the Middle East region before my trip to Kuwait
heartfelt hospitality everywhere in the region.”
Shibata said: “There are several ongoing series
There are fewer senior voice actors these days
so I don’t know how long I can continue or whether I will get offers
But I still feel like I want to continue.”
About his recommendations for those who want to be voice actors for animation projects
Shibata said:” The way of a voice actor is interest and curiosity
Steal from the good and learn from the bad
The way of the arts is that it’s not a crime to steal.”

The album ‘My Favorite Things’ by singer-songwriter and poet Satoko Shibata will be released on Wednesday
‘My Favorite Things’ is a new version of her seventh original album ‘Your Favorite Things,’ which was released in February
This album focuses on Shibata as a solo artist
featuring all the tracks from ‘Your Favorite Things’ in a stripped-down
solo performance style under the title ‘My Favorite Things Ver.’ Takuro Okada
who co-produced ‘Your Favorite Things,’ continues his collaboration on this project
a comment from Shibata has also been shared
The idea for creating “My Favorite Things” came from Takuro Okada
who co-produced the recently released album “Your Favorite Things.” He suggested making an acoustic version of the album
Despite having performed solo countless times
I never had a strong attachment to or ideal for this form of sound
so I never felt confident enough to make an acoustic album
I felt there might be a chance to create something good and decided to go ahead with the recording
I realized my lack of skill and thought in solo arrangements
and it was a time of facing my arrogance and insensitivity
but I am truly glad this recording happened
I think I would have continued aimlessly with solo performances
is never easy and constantly requires a lot of thought
Working with an incredible musician like Okada and revisiting these basic beginnings was an extraordinary luxury
after Toshihiko Kasai helped with miking on the first day
the rest of the recording was done by Okada
(I finished without fully understanding the SSL.) Yu Taniguchi taught me the basics of playing the keyboard and was present during the recording
encouraging me when I felt I couldn’t play anymore
I am deeply grateful to everyone who worked with me and provided this invaluable experience
I believe it turned out to be a great album
I hope you enjoy this one along with “Your Favorite Things.” Thank you very much
