an exciting new technology has made big waves in the automotive world
That's autonomous driving, also called full-self driving (FSD) by Tesla CEO Elon Musk
He was the first person to make headway in the space
starting to talk about the technology as far back as 2015.
💸💰 Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter 💰💸
While his promises about autonomous driving technology didn't materialize as soon as he originally promised
Tesla did introduce FSD's first beta in 2020 for a limited user group
and finally rolled it out to all users in 2022
the FSD service drew attention over time for its high incidence of accidents
leading the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to open an investigation into Tesla and the technology in Oct
Alphabet has also been making inroads into the autonomous driving space with Waymo
which it smartly made available via Uber in mid-2022
Waymo recently announced plans to expand into Austin in June 2025
Now a major new player is stepping into the space in partnership with Waymo — and it looks threatening for Elon Musk

Waymo wants to bring self-driving to your vehicleToyota and Waymo made a joint announcement on April 29 that the two companies would be partnering up for a fascinating new venture indeed: bringing robotaxi tech to consumer vehicles
Woven by Toyota will also join the potential collaboration as "Toyota’s strategic enabler," according to a press release
contributing its strengths in "advanced software and mobility innovation."
The announcement goes on to say that the two companies intend to build a new autonomous vehicle platform
which they promise will "enhance next-generation personally owned vehicles (POVs)."
“Toyota is committed to realizing a society with zero traffic accidents and becoming a mobility company that delivers mobility for all," Hiroki Nakajima
Member of the Board and Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Corporation
"We share a strong sense of purpose and a common vision with Waymo in advancing safety through automated driving technology
and we are confident this collaboration can help bring our solutions to more people around the world
moving us one step closer to a zero-accident society
Our companies are taking an important step toward a future with greater safety and peace of mind for all.”
No timeline for the launch of the new platform was announced in the release
Alphabet puts new pressure on Elon MuskMusk has openly made dozens of promises about his robotaxi fleet ("Cybercabs"), and many have believed him and invested in the technology, such as high-profile investor Cathie Wood
New reporting suggests that Musk shut down robotaxi research internally after learning that it would be slow to produce profit for the company
head of business development and policy for Tesla
"We had lots of modeling that showed the payback around FSD [Full Self Driving] and Robotaxi was going to be slow
given the regulatory environment or lack of regulatory environment."
Musk reacted by nixing development on Tesla's $25K budget model and pushing forward on the Cybercab. But now Tesla may have halted its orders for Cybercab parts, according to a new report from Teslarati
Now as Toyota moves into the space with Waymo's years of experience in its arsenal
new problem to worry about — on top of bringing back Tesla from its biggest decline in history

Home/NewsToyota bZ3X Is Actually Selling Extremely Well – In ChinaThe car is barely one month old and Toyota has already delivered 10,000 units
A compact EV SUV based on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, the bZ3X is the smaller sibling to the bZ4X American auto buyers are familiar with. That vehicle hasn’t been met with acclaim, which caused many to doubt the smaller bZ3X would fare any better. If sales reports are any indication, the bZ3X is about ten times more popular than the bZ4X
Starting at 109,800 yuan (roughly $15,000)
the bZ3X can accommodate five passengers and has rear fold-flat seats for hauling oversized items
It has a suite of driver assistance features
a single LIDAR sensor to support its driver assist platform
The bZ3X looks more SUV-like than the bZ4X
It has a more minimalist interior than you might expect for a Toyota
which favors tradition over progressive styling
A center-mounted 14-inch display and an 8-inch driver-side screen are the only interruptions in an otherwise sleek interior dash
featuring only a few cupholders and dual wireless charging pads
The SUV is also about the size of a Ford Mustang Mach-E. While small for most American auto buyers, the Toyota bZ3X is finding a lot of favor in China. If it were to come stateside, it would challenge the Tesla Model 3 and Model 4 for sales supremacy in the EV segment
Toyota was operating its R&D efforts via three entities: FAW Toyota
Engineers now lead projects from inception to production
a departure from previous project management structuring inside Toyota
The bZ3X is an early glimpse at what consolidation and restructuring can produce. Though Toyota didn’t seem to arrive at the bZ3X any faster than it would under its former structure, the results might be better and more resonant to auto buyers in China than any Toyota that came before it. The same might be true for the flagship bZ7 sedan and new Lexus ES
both of which are products of the same design and production road mapping at Toyota and set to debut this year
but its success may influence the next generation of bZ4X
There’s no secret here; Toyota simply delivered a well-designed vehicle that checks a lot of boxes at a reasonable price point—that’s all most buyers are asking for when looking for a new vehicle

Home » Latest » Toyota » Toyota reportedly considering next-gen RAV4 production in Kentucky
Reuters has reported that Toyota is considering U.S. production for the next-gen RAV4
as it looks to reduce the impact of rising import tariffs on vehicles
the next-gen RAV4 was originally set to continue shipping from Japan and Canada for U.S
strong demand and trade pressures have prompted Toyota to consider shifting some output to Kentucky
the report says that Toyota will unveil the sixth-generation RAV4 later this year
If the company were to assign new RAV4 production to Kentucky
it’s unlikely to begin before 2027 as retooling the factory and building a local supply chain would take time
Toyota’s Canadian output is expected to continue regardless of the decision
The upcoming compact SUV adopts a more adventurous look, drawing from recent models like the bZ4X and Prius
Key changes observed in test prototypes include a hammerhead shark-inspired front
The front features C-shaped DRLs with vertical LED projectors and polygonal bumper wings
trapezoidal arches and flush roof rails remain
and aerodynamic tweaks like a large spoiler and side fins near the windshield
Inside, the 2026 RAV4 Hybrid should sport features like a panoramic sunroof, gesture-activated tailgate, digital key, all-digital gauge cluster, Toyota Audio Multimedia system, USB-C ports, wireless phone charger, and 360-degree camera. Expect improved front seats with 8-way power and memory, and a new steering wheel design similar to the 2025 Camry
Cabin and cargo space should remain at current levels
while the crossover should upgrade to the TSS 3.0 safety suite
While the full impact of tariffs is yet to be ascertained
we expect the new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid to be priced at under USD 35,000 in the U.S.
while the new RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid is expected to begin at around USD 45,000
The revised models are expected at dealers for MY2026

The Nightshade option adds dark trim elements
Justin BannerWriterMotorTrend StaffPhotographerManufacturerPhotographerMay 01
Just looking at the 2026 Camry Nightshade and at a standard Camry side-by-side, you probably won’t even tell the differences right away. But the changes are there, starting with the Midnight Black Metallic painted elements such as the grille, air curtains, side canards, door handles, mirror caps, antenna, rear diffuser, and spoiler.
The special 19-inch wheels are based on a similar design to the standard wheels on the Camry, wrapped in all-season tires. You’re also offered one of three colors: Ice Cap White, Supersonic Red, and Midnight Black Metallic.
The Nightshade Edition is a special edition that lives just above the Camry's SE trim level. It can even be combined with either front- or all-wheel drive.

Many Toyota owners will attest – a 200,000-mile odometer reading is usually just the beginning
Longevity is one of the brand’s strongest suits
and the 4Runner sport-utility has been a popular vehicle for adventure-seekers for several decades
It has a longstanding legacy as a reliable
Toyota called the 4Runner “The Answering Machine for the Call of the Wild.”
“This 4Runner has been carefully maintained by its owner – a mechanical engineer – for over 10 years,” the listing says
Despite the vehicle’s odometer reading of about 244,500 miles
it looks to be in remarkable shape both inside and out
The seller says the paint is original with exception of the hood
The 4Runner nameplate has been around for over 40 years
It was first brought to market in 1983 with what Toyota called the “N60 series” three-door compact SUV
The 4Runner shared mechanical architecture with Toyota’s pickups of the time
and the same basic formula still holds true today: While most sport-utility vehicles now utilize unibody designs
the newest 4Runner is still built on a truck-style ladder frame (called the TNGA-F global truck platform)
but it’s still well-appointed with a power sunroof and other options
The seller has upgraded the factory sound system with a JVC head unit that has modern Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
“This truck turns heads and draws compliments everywhere it goes
Please reach out if you are serious about wanting to make it yours,” the listing concludes

“We are confident this collaboration can help bring our solutions to more people around the world
moving us one step closer to a zero-accident society.”
Toyota has had an in-house program working on autonomous vehicles for years and is expanding the use of advanced driver-assist features across both the Toyota and Lexus product lines
though it hasn’t announced plans to launch its own robotaxi service
which will begin supplying it with electric Ioniq 5 hatchbacks later this year for use in its fast-growing robotaxi fleet
asked last week about Waymo’s long-term growth during the company’s quarterly results call
said “future optionality around personal ownership” might be in cars
That was a reiteration of a plan first announced by former Waymo CEO John Kracik in 2018
though the company has said little about it since then
Waymo is booking more than 250,000 paid robotaxi rides a week in Phoenix
It’s preparing to expand the service to Atlanta
and is testing its electric Jaguar I-PACE SUVs in Nashville and Tokyo
Working with Toyota directly on an autonomous vehicle platform
could help drive down the cost of such vehicles
helping to make them more profitable to operate
Making Waymo’s system available for use in personal vehicles–which unlike Tesla’s so-called Full Self-Driving feature is truly autonomous and requires no human monitoring to take control–would likely be available as a subscription service and a lucrative new source of revenue for the Mountain View
California-based company on top of its robotaxi business
“Having the world's largest auto company join forces with the world's largest robotaxi firm backed by the world's largest search engine company is a formidable combination,” Adam Jonas
a Morgan Stanley equity analyst said in a research note
The companies said the scope of their collaboration “will continue to evolve through ongoing discussions.” They didn’t provide any financial details about the partnership and a Waymo spokesperson didn’t immediately comment on the matter
A growing number of car manufacturers have come under fire over the past year for allegedly selling the driving data of owners to insurance companies
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton started an investigation into Toyota
a Toyota owner has sued the Japanese company in Texas
alleging his driving data was sold without consent
Read: Carmakers Are Snitching On You And Selling Your Driving Data To Insurers
This case could prove to be a major headache for Toyota
particularly if the plaintiff gets his wish for a jury trial
According to plaintiff Philip Siefke from Eagle Lake
and Connected Analytic Services collect data that can contribute to a “potential discount” on the auto insurance of owners
it can also cause insurance premiums to be jacked up
Impacted Toyota models that can track driving data include most 2018 or newer Toyota models
Siefke has owned a 2021 RAV4 XLE since March 2021 with a ‘telemetry’ tracking device
It can reportedly gather information about location
According to Siefke, he first became aware of Toyota having important driving data when he attempted to sign up for an insurance policy with Progressive in January
Shortly after selecting to opt out of the data sharing program during the online sign-up process
informing Siefke that Progressive already had his driving data up to January 20
He called them and was told they had received this information from Toyota
Siefke called Toyota next, and according to him, they revealed that when he bought his RAV4
he signed up for a trial program that would share his driving data
He claims that at no point was he informed that his data would be sold to third parties
Siefke is looking to take the issue further
He’s seeking class-action status for his lawsuit
hoping to represent thousands of other Toyota owners whose driving data may have been shared with insurance companies without their consent

The chairman of Toyota has said that a sports car must have a gasoline engine and not be powered by an electric drivetrain
There have been rumors for a few years that the company was set to bring out a sports car with electric power
This was after Toyota revealed its FT-Se concept
but it has yet to evolve into a production model
wanting any new Toyota sports car to have ICE power
DISCOVER OUR SUPERCAR AUCTION SITE – View live auctions on SBX Cars
Toyota made these comments while speaking to Automotive News
The Toyota boss said, “For me as the master driver, my definition of a sports car is something with the smell of gasoline and a noisy engine.”
Toyoda admitted that there are some within the company pushing for a sportier electric car
he would much rather any new sports car stick with a combustion engine
It must be stressed that Toyoda isn’t firmly against an electric sports car
But the current boss of the company has his priorities set elsewhere
Toyoda also feels that EV technology isn’t quite up to the level it needs to be for performance cars
the chairman said it’s ‘not exciting’ to race EVs as the batteries can only last for around an hour
An electric sports car could still come in the future
it appears ICE power has a lot more to give to the manufacturer
The Supra will continue beyond the current generation, and we might even see a return of the MR2 or Celica
Luxury division Lexus is currently testing a GT3 race car
It is also set to spawn a road-going version of the car
there are rumors that a new generation of the Toyota GR86 is already in development
The company deserves a lot of praise for ensuring that the ICE segment for sports cars is still going strong
Cars like the current Supra and GR86 remind us just how lucky we are to have them in the automotive world
would miss them dearly if they were to disappear

Cerumo’s six-year winless run comes to end as Velorex Ferrari takes incredible comeback win in GT300…
Toyota SUPER GT squad Cerumo ended six-year victory drought in Sunday’s second race of the season at Fuji Speedway as Hiroaki Ishiura and Toshiki Oyu converted their pole position into a comfortable win in the three-hour Golden Week classic
Oyu built up a significant advantage over the field over his two stints
handing over to Ishiura with a little over an hour left on the clock
Ishiura inherited a lead of over 30 seconds over the No
1 TOM’S Toyota that had moved up to a net second despite its 40 kg success handicap
and took the checkered flag with 11.969 seconds in hand over the car shared by Sho Tsuboi and Kenta Yamashita
It marked Cerumo’s first win since the 2019 Fuji Golden Week race
when Ishiura was paired with now-team director Yuji Tachikawa
with Oyu scoring a first win since moving from Honda to Toyota at the start of last season
as Tadasuke Makino beat Kazuki Hiramine’s Team Impul Nissan in an entertaining battle
The early stages of the race were characterized by poleman Oyu steadily building his lead over the second-placed Racing Project Bandoh Toyota of Yuji Kunimoto
with the two ARTA Hondas of Hiroki Otsu and Tomoki Nojiri giving chase
Oyu had already got the gap up to ten seconds by the time of the one and only full-course yellow of the race
which was triggered when the Helm Motorsport Nissan GT300 car made contact with a rival and spun into retirement exiting Turn 1
Nojiri was the first of the leading cars to make a pit stop on lap 27 of an eventual 116
16 machine of Otsu stayed out until the one-hour mark had elapsed and lost considerable ground in the process
By the time the window for driver changes opened on lap 38
Otsu had already been passed by multiple cars
with Yuhi Sekiguchi fighting his way up to third aboard the SARD Toyota that had started eighth and Tsuboi moving up to fourth
Oyu maintained the lead through the first round of stops as Nojiri jumped to second courtesy of the undercut
with the TOM’S car that Tsuboi handed over to Yamashita jumping to a net third with a quick stop
The Yokohama-shod Bandoh Toyota that had run second slipped down the order as Kunimoto handed over to Sena Sakaguchi
who was back in the pits some 25 minutes later for an emergency stop that dropped that car out of contention
Oyu continued to extend the gap out front in the second stint from Nojiri
who was some 20 seconds adrift when the two leading drivers both pitted with a little over an hour to go to hand over to Ishiura and Nobuharu Matsushita respectively
Matsushita began to struggle for pace relatively early in his stint
and was powerless to stop Tsuboi — now back at the wheel of the No
1 Toyota for the final stint — from coming through in the fight for second
Next in the queue by this stage was the Impul Nissan of Hiramine
who had taken over from Bertrand Baguette on lap 39 and made a succession of overtakes to move from ninth after the first round of stops to fourth after the car’s second stop on lap 76
Hiramine passed Matsushita for second on lap 87
with the latter quickly losing further positions
but the Impul car couldn’t catch the TOM’S car in second and instead had to focus on fending off the fast-approaching Kunimitsu Honda of Makino
After several laps of the two drivers running nose-to-tail
Makino made a robust move on lap 106 at Turn 10 to give the Honda he shared with Naoki Yamamoto the final spot on the podium
albeit 24.1 seconds down on the winning Cerumo Toyota
Hiramine held on for fourth ahead of Sacha Fenestraz in the SARD Toyota
while Nirei Fukuzumi charged from outside of the points to claim sixth in the Rookie Racing Toyota he shared with Kazuya Oshima that was carrying 32 kg of success ballast
That keeps Fukuzumi and Oshima joint second in the standings with Oyu and Ishiura
albeit 14 points behind defending champions Tsuboi and Yamashita
Nissan’s works NISMO team salvaged eighth place for the No
23 car of Mitsunori Takaboshi and Katsumasa Chiyo that had started 15th and last
37 TOM’S Toyota of Ukyo Sasahara and Giuliano Alesi
Matsushita eventually faded to ninth in the No
16 car was 10th before being handed a penalty for late contact between Ren Sato and Daiki Sasaki in the No
3 NISMO Nissan that took the final point instead
Last-Lap Subaru Heartbreak Hands Win to Velorex Ferrari
A dramatic GT300 battle was settled in favor of the Velorex Ferrari 296 GT3 of Roberto Merhi and Yoshiaki Katayama as disaster struck the race-leading Subaru on the final lap
The R&D Sport-run Subaru BRZ of Takuto Iguchi and Hideki Yamauchi had looked to have done just enough to take a first win since 2022 as Iguchi managed a rapidly-dwindling lead over the Ferrari of ex-Formula 1 driver Merhi in the closing stages
But that was until Iguchi dramatically slowed and pulled off the circuit on the run down to Turn 10 on the very final lap of the race
with smoke pouring from the car’s hood
That allowed Merhi and Katayama to complete a miracle comeback from 27th on the grid
which had started with the Spanish driver tearing through the field in the early stages
making it up inside the top ten inside the first 30 minutes of the race
a first for ex-Toyota GT500 team Team LeMans in the GT300 class and a first for Ferrari machinery since 2009
The pole-winning D’station Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo had looked like a strong bet for the win from the early stages of the race
with Tomonobu Fujii leading the early stages ahead of the Subaru started by Yamauchi
Both the PONOS Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 and LEON Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo gained an advantage by pitting on lap 19 under the FCY
which put the PONOS car of Kei Cozzolino into the net lead until Fujii passed Cozzolino at the halfway mark
Fujii suffered a left-rear puncture exiting the final corner
which prompted him to pit for a second time immediately to hand over to Charlie Fagg
but left the D’station car without the necessary fuel to make it to the finish of the race
Fagg made the car’s final pit stop on lap 99
dropping to third behind the Subaru and Velorex Ferrari
and was promoted to second by the Subaru’s late failure
CarGuy MKS Racing Ferrari duo Rikuto Kobayashi and Zak O’Sullivan finished third on the road in just the team’s second race
but a 10-second time penalty for a pit infraction dropped the car to fourth
instead promoting the Inging Toyota GR86 GT of Hibiki Taira and Yuui Tsutsumi to the final step on the podium
Fifth place for the LEON Racing Mercedes-AMG
despite carrying the maximum 50 kg of success ballast
keeps Naoya Gamou and Togo Suganami in the lead of the championship by 11 points
the Subaru was classified eighth as the remainder of the field ended up a lap or more behind the winning car

The Rookie Racing GR Supra that finished second at Okayama was the only member of the Toyota contingent not to make Q2
with Kazuya Oshima qualifying 11th ahead of Bertrand Baguette’s Impul Nissan
23 car was slowest of all in Q1 in the hands of Mitsunori Takaboshi
and will line up 15th and last for Sunday’s three-hour race

Fagg’s teammate Tomonobu Fujii was the driver to beat in Q1 as he set a benchmark of 1:35.674 in his Q1 group
almost half a second faster than Takuto Iguchi aboard the works R&D Sport-run Subaru BRZ
Yamauchi set an early benchmark of 1:34.882 in Q2 in the Subaru

which put the D’station Aston on pole for the second time since it debuted last year

with teammate Zak O’Sullivan having been second to Iguchi in his Q1 group
ahead of the Team Mach Toyota 86 Mother Chassis of Yusuke Shiotsu and Kei Cozzolino’s PONOS Racing Ferrari
The championship-leading LEON Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo was only able to qualify 14th in the hands of Naoya Gamou carrying the maximum 50 kg success penalty for its victory at Okayama
was only 11th-fastest despite carrying no ballast
Despite a favorable Balance of Performance adjustment for the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 since the Okayama opener
0 JLOC car was eliminated in Q1 in the hands of Takashi Kogure and will start 22nd
while the Velorex Ferrari that had been third-fastest in practice was demoted to 27th as Yoshiaki Katayama’s best lap was disallowed

Waymo robotaxis operate in Austin and other cities
and it is looking at personally owned vehicles with Toyota
and Waymo LLC this week said they have agreed to explore a collaboration focusing on accelerating the development and deployment of autonomous vehicle technologies
“Waymo’s mission is to be the world’s most trusted driver,” stated Tekedra Mawakana
“This requires global partners like Toyota that share our commitment to improving road safety and expanding accessible transportation
“We look forward to exploring this strategic partnership
incorporating their vehicles into our ride-hailing fleet and bringing the magic of Waymo’s autonomous driving technology to Toyota customers,” she added
Waymo said it is building a generalizable driver that can be applied to a variety of vehicle platforms and businesses over time. The Mountain View, Calif.-based company noted that its strategic partnership with Toyota will enable it to start exploring how to incorporate elements of its autonomy technology to personally owned vehicles (POVs)
beyond the robotic taxicab fleets currently in operation
Waymo has used Jaguar and Lexus vehicles for its fleet
and the Google spinoff said future AVs could include both robotaxis and POVs
Waymo and Toyota said their potential partnership “is built on a shared vision of improving road safety and delivering increased mobility for all.” The companies said they will explore combining their respective strengths to develop a new AV platform for next-generation POVs
Toyota cited its vehicle expertise, including support for research and development toward its vision of zero traffic accidents. The Tokyo-based automaker said it is guided by a three-pillar approach that integrates people
The company has developed and deployed Toyota Safety Sense (TSS)
which it described as “a proprietary suite of advanced safety technologies.” Toyota said TSS reflects its goal of making impactful technologies widely accessible
Toyota and Waymo said their collaboration is intended to accelerate the development and adoption of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) and AV capabilities
“Toyota is committed to realizing a society with zero traffic accidents and becoming a mobility company that delivers mobility for all,” said Hiroki Nakajima
an executive vice president and member of Toyota’s board
” We share a strong sense of purpose and a common vision with Waymo in advancing safety through automated driving technology,” he said
“We are confident this collaboration can help bring our solutions to more people around the world
Our companies are taking an important step toward a future with greater safety and peace of mind for all.”

Goodbye Toyota - Hilux SRX and GR-Sport IV recalled for these structural defects that endanger road safety
Hearing the word Toyota means pronounce next to it the word “reliability”, don’t you think so? Well
Toyota has just issued an urgent recall for two of their vehicles: Hilux SRX and GR-Sport models sold between February 2023 and April 2024
This system is poorly designed and wears down too quickly
or even destabilize the structure if it is not fixed in time
Toyota has already acknowledged the flaw and committed to fixing it at no cost
Only the SRX and GR-Sport IV versions with the factory-installed bar. If your Hilux came without it when you bought it
especially if you received your vehicle between February 2023 and April 2024
Toyota clarifies that this does not compromise driving safety
but it is a defect that needs to be corrected before it becomes a bigger issue
it’s time to make a visit to your nearest dealership
The support that holds it in place doesn’t withstand what it should
more than what would be considered acceptable for a truck built to endure anything
the company has halted production of that accessory and has quietly removed it from promotional images
excluding it from all vehicles delivered since May of last year… Sounds weird
Both options are free for users (of course) and handled at any Toyota’s official dealership
You just need to book an appointment and bring in your vehicle
The bar had been the subject of debate since the beginning
while others saw it as an unnecessary add-on that only added weight (and others thought it was unattractive…)
it’s clear it wasn’t just a matter of taste
The fact that Toyota began delivering the vehicles without the bar and then removed it from the photos was a clue
Toyota is showing something important here: even aesthetic accessories can become headaches if it is not properly designed
The good news is that the brand has responded quickly and is offering a clear
exactly what is expected from a company of Toyota’s calibre
one that can react swiftly and confidently to any issues that arise with its vehicles
If you are not sure at all if your vehicle is part of this recall
head to your dealership to have your truck inspected and keep enjoying your adventures

Yamagata cautions that these vehicles might face similar challenges as electric cars

China is at the forefront in the development of infrastructure for hydrogen-powered trucks
The country is also responsible for a significant share of the global sales of hydrogen commercial vehicles
highlighting its leading position in this emerging market

Home » Latest » Toyota » 2026 Toyota Camry gets these 2 changes; to reach U.S
and the basic formula remains the same for MY2026:
As we expected in February
bringing dark styling cues for a more aggressive appearance
It features Midnight Black Metallic elements across the front grille
Gloss black badging and 19-inch wheels complete the look
The Nightshade edition can be configured in Ice Cap
It shares mechanical specifications with the SE grade and is available with front- or all-wheel drive
the Nightshade Edition carries over the features from the SE but adds a unique black interior with SofTex-trimmed seats and white accents
a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters
offering a stealthier cabin vibe without affecting functionality
A new body color called the Dark Cosmos has been introduced for MY2026. It is available in the SE, XLE, and XSE grades. The moody blue finish adds to the car’s wide color palette, but Heavy Metal with the Midnight Black Metallic roof remains our personal favorite
Toyota must consider extending Dark Cosmos to the Nightshade Edition for the next model year
the Camry is unchanged from the 2025 model
It continues standard with the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System
Fuel economy is unchanged at a manufacturer-estimated 51 mpg (LE FWD)
The car also retains the sport-tuned suspension for SE
The company says that pricing will be announced closer to launch
Since the Camry Hybrid is made in Kentucky
it should be less affected by the Trump administration’s auto tariffs
prices (base MSRP) currently (MY2025) range between USD 28,700 to USD 34,900

A federal class action lawsuit filed this week in Texas accused Toyota and an affiliated telematics aggregator of unlawfully collecting drivers’ information and then selling that data to Progressive
The lawsuit alleges that Toyota and Connected Analytic Services (CAS) collected vast amounts of vehicle data
and then shared that information with Progressive’s Snapshot data sharing program
The class action seeks an award of damages
and an order prohibiting further collection of drivers’ location and vehicle data
a Florida resident who in 2021 purchased a new Toyota RAV4 XLE equipped with a telematics device that can track and collect driving data
Siefke attempted to sign up for an insurance policy with Progressive in January 2025
After opting out of Progressive’s Snapshot program in the online sign up process
notifying Siefke that Progressive was already in possession of his driving data
A Progressive customer service representative explained to Siefke over the phone that the carrier had obtained his driving data from tracking technology installed in his RAV4
Siefke inquired with Toyota why his driving data was shared without his permission
he was told he unknowingly signed up for a trial of sharing his driving data captured by the Tracking Technology and that he had to opt out of the data sharing
Progressive did not respond to requests for comment
The lawsuit alleges Toyota never provided Siefke with any sort of notice that the car manufacture would share his driving data with third parties
When Siefke followed up with Progressive to inquire about the exact flow of his driving data
he was told that Progressive obtains data from CAS
a data aggregator that provides telematics and vehicle build data to insurance companies
Related: Texas Lawsuit Alleges Allstate Illegally Collects Driver Data
A 2022 Toyota press release announcing the automaker’s partnership with CAS says “telematics data and driver information is shared only at the express request and direction of Toyota customers.” CAS is an affiliate of Toyota Insurance Management Solutions (TIMS)
TIMS formed a separate partnership with Progressive to provide owners of telematics-connected vehicles with an opportunity to seek insurance discounts. Progressive said that Toyota customers have the ability to enroll in connected services upon purchasing select Toyota vehicles
data is collected that the owner can later consent to share with Progressive for a potential discount
The lawsuit alleges that despite Toyota and CAS’s commitment to customer privacy and representation
the companies nonetheless illegally share driving data
The lawsuit says class members suffered actual injury from having their driving data collected and sold to third parties including
damage to and diminution in the value of their driving data
violation of their privacy rights; (c) the likelihood of future theft of their driving data

misses out on ‘Precious Bronze’ color
The Toyota Camry has been the best-selling passenger car in the U.S

One detail that differentiates the U.S.-spec model from its global counterparts is the absence of the exclusive “Precious Bronze” exterior shade. During our recent test drive of the 2025 Camry Hybrid in Dubai

We felt that this color brings out the Camry’s body lines and surfacing better than the flatter colors
settling in nicely with the golden hues of its environment
with a kind of visual depth you’d expect to see at a Lexus dealership
this shade of bronze could appeal particularly to customers seeking understated luxury

Toyoda was asked whether he could imagine a future where Toyota builds an electric sports car or race car
His response was as classic as you’d expect: “There will always be people inside Toyota passionate about developing electric sports cars
my definition of a sports car is something with the smell of gasoline and a noisy engine.”
These comments pretty much crush any hopes of seeing a production version of the electricToyota FT-Se concept from 2023
which many thought might preview a new generation of the discontinued MR2
Toyota has been keeping the MR2 revival rumors alive with a mid-engined GR Yaris prototype
it’s packing the upcoming turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine
An Electric Sports Car Needs to Be Affordable
Toyoda hasn’t completely closed the door on EVs
He conceded that if the right conditions come together
an electric sports car could eventually make sense
But there’s a catch: it has to be affordable
so we also need to think about affordability
“Once Toyota has the capacity to offer affordable BEVs
will be introducing a BEV sports car.”

The master driver isn’t exactly sold on electric race cars, at least not yet. He pointed out that racing EVs are “not exciting,” mainly because they can’t even make it around the circuit for more than an hour
“The kind of races I enter are mostly endurance races
it’s not going to be a race of the cars
It’s a race of charging time or battery exchanges or something,” he told Auto News
he’s handed off the task of developing EV race cars to the next master driver
saying it will be “their job” to tackle
Speaking of a potential successor, Toyoda did admit that his son, Daisuke, is the better driver. Still, Akio believes he has the upper hand when it comes to the “seasoning” of production models
After honing his driving skills under chief test driver Naruse at the ripe age of 40
Toyoda says he’s eager to see what his son
“I look forward to seeing what will happen with someone who started young like Daisuke,” he said.
