Ackerman has now moved into the Team Advisor role
with Laidlaw’s the only English voice to be heard

He played for both the NZ Maori and the All Blacks
“We are back into the First Division in the [JRLO] and it’s a great challenge ahead playing the best teams of this competition
We look forward to seeing you at the stadium
A big part of our theme is to connect and let’s connect together as a team and as a unity
to support Greg and the team for this big challenge lying ahead
and we look forward to seeing you all at the stadium.”
“The vision I want to create and the environment for the players to have
is a place to come and really strive to be the best version of themselves
and that connection part is very important to myself and to the team
We want to be connected between players and coaches
I feel that’s an important part of the history of NTT teams
is going to be a vital part of how we succeed.”
He spoke of his excitement about the squad and players they have but stressed that “an important part of that is we want to have good people as well as good players
That’s a very important part of our environment
So I am looking forward to trying to develop good people as well as good players.”
He was very focused on ensuring his job is to make the team the best they can be and he is relishing the mix of young exciting Japanese players with some more experienced overseas players
my job to allow the players to express themselves on the rugby field and give them the real confidence to do that
I’ve had a lot of experience over the years and working with different coaches
so it’s now time for me to really draw on that experience and try and lead that into my coaching career.”
Ren Iinuma (scrumhalf) was introduced as the club captain continuing on from last season
He played really well last season and he led the team really well….He very much deserved that spot.”
So striking that balance with the players and with coaches and to really set that environment from day one in preseason – the players have worked extremely hard and it’s been really good.”

As part of the video clips shown at the press conference
Laidlaw was introduced to the playing squad where the Scot told them
“I think we’ve got extremely talented players in the room
looking forward to seeing the good progress going forward.”
He said of his role as a young coach “What’s fun is challenging the players and passing my knowledge onto the players
and just working closely with them and developing relationships
from my experiences of travelling the world and different cultures
I think that the most important thing is you understand the people first in the country.”
He expanded on the path ahead in the Q&A at the session in front of the Japanese media
“Everybody in the club’s extremely excited
and I’m probably going to need that because it will be difficult at times as well
We’re going back into the top league
and we’re obviously going to be playing against the best teams in Japan
and the players are looking forward to that challenge.”
the Head Coach said that they would need to keep developing right across the board but he signalled our the forward pack
“We need to develop in terms of being really tough
We did really well last season in terms of the promotion/ relegation games and our forwards stood up
We’ll need to develop over 18 games this season to be steely and tough
The JRLO side has signed seven new players including Springbok Rugby World Cup 2023 winner backrower Jasper Wiese
as well as key players ahead of next season
Two of the current squad are with the Brave Blossoms in the Pacific Nations Cup; Shuhei Takeuchi and Samisoni Tua

“I think you have to set your aspirations high
Top six [in the JRLO] is what we’ve talked about but it’s going to be a difficult season
I’m completely aligned with the players in terms of where we want to go
The Japanese side has a number of pre-season games inked in for October and November 2024 before the JRLO gets underway where they are based in Division 1 Conference A

FORMER LEINSTER BACK Chris Cosgrave has signed for Japanese club Urayasu D-Rocks on a short-term deal as he makes a return to professional rugby
23-year-old Cosgrave was released by Leinster last summer and has been playing for Terenure College RFC in the All-Ireland League this season
The versatile back attracted plenty of interest upon leaving Leinster and had trial spells with French side Racing 92 and English club Bath
It’s understood that potential permanent deals were complicated due to regulations regarding non-French players and the salary cap
Cograve continued to play with Terenure but is now making the move to D-Rocks
who are based in the Japanese city of Urayasu
Coached by former Scotland international Greig Laidlaw
D-Rocks have had a tough start to the League One Division 1 season with one win in their opening seven games after being promoted to the top flight
The D-Rocks squad includes players like Samu Kerevi
It’s believed that Cosgrave is joining the club as injury cover for the remainder of the League One season
Cosgrave came through St Michael’s College in Dublin and impressed for the Ireland U20s before advancing into the Leinster academy
Capable of playing across the entire backline and a good goal-kicker
he earned seven senior appearances for the province
He scored two tries for Leinster in a promising 2022/23 campaign
with a particularly impressive outing in a thrilling comeback win against the Lions in South Africa in April 2023
but his final season with the province was ruined by injury
Losing Cosgrave – who has also played for the Ireland 7s team – will be a blow for AIL club Terenure
who have already seen highly influential forward Harrison Brewer leave for Japan recently
The lock/flanker joined third-division club Kurita Water Gush Akishima as injury cover for the rest of this season
Brewer has already started two games in the second row for Water Gush
Sean Skehan’s Terenure are second in Division 1A of the AIL as they look to bounce back from last season’s defeat to Cork Con in the final
But Cosgrave will hope this move to Japan is just the start of relaunching his professional career

Chiba Prefecture—With a month to go before the much-awaited grand opening
a charming new area of Tokyo DisneySea here opened for a media preview on May 7
is divided into three parts inspired by the beloved Disney films “Frozen,” “Tangled” and “Peter Pan,” respectively
Among the castle ramparts and pastel villages
which takes visitors on a trip to the kingdom of Arendelle accompanied by famed songs from the films
The 320-billion-yen ($2.07 billion) project will expand DisneySea by around 20 percent
making this the largest extension since the theme park opened in 2001
which also runs the neighboring Tokyo Disneyland
reached 618.4 billion yen in sales in the fiscal year ending in March 2024
The company expects the new area to generate an additional 75 billion yen in annual revenues

The earthquake that struck Japan on March 11 will be remembered primarily for the devastating tsunami it created
The quake itself did remarkably little damage to buildings in most areas
These are places built on land reclaimed from the sea
the soil in these areas acted like a liquid
People at Shoppers Plaza in a Tokyo suburb called Urayasu got to see liquefaction up close. Amateur videos shot just after the earthquake show people milling about the mall's paved courtyard
sections of the courtyard begin to pulse and heave
"The ground was moving sideways," says Teiko Kato
she had grabbed the shop's most valuable orchid and ran outside
the watery mud had covered much of the courtyard
the ground level dropped as much as a foot
manholes were being pushed up out of the earth
Kato says she was terrified because she knew what was going on
It was more than just an earthquake — it was liquefaction
The shaking from the earthquake was allowing sand and water underground to rise and things on the surface to sink
Kato's shop and everything around it is built on land that used to be part of Tokyo Bay; this sort of reclaimed land is highly vulnerable to liquefaction
so Kato and her family had moved in despite the risk
"We came with dream to have new shining life in nice area," she says
The shaking caused by the earthquake triggered liquefaction
which allows sand and water underground to rise
a lot of engineers have visited Urayasu to figure out precisely what happened
a civil engineer from the University of California
who was there on behalf of a group called Geotechnical Extreme Events Reconnaissance
Boulanger says what happened in reclaimed land around Tokyo Bay is the same thing that happens when you mix beach sand and water in a pail and shake it
"Soil takes on the appearance of being like a liquid
and that's where the term liquefaction comes from," he says
Boulanger has studied liquefaction damage from the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake in California
which affected San Francisco's Marina District — an area also built on reclaimed land
But the damage around Tokyo bay was much worse
He says that's because the Japanese earthquake was much more powerful and went on for a very long time
"the strong shaking was over in 10 or 15 seconds," he says
"whereas at some of these sites the shaking is going on for minutes."
created an uneven buckling and settling of roads and the surface
That may be the reason even small houses in Urayasu were damaged
he says lighter structures built on concrete slab foundations tend to float
even as the ground beneath them becomes like quicksand
"One of the things we'd never really seen before were very light structures settling and tilting by amounts we hadn't really seen in other earthquakes," Boulanger says
Takako Utsunomiya lives in one of those structures — a two-story home in an upscale part of Urayasu
On an afternoon several weeks after the earthquake
Utsunomiya is sweeping the path from her front door as two masked workers shovel mud from a walkway beside the house
The house is still intact on its concrete slab
"It's really tilted and distorted," Utsunomiya says
"you feel dizzy because the floor is tilted."
the nearest water is a temporary pipe two blocks from her home
She says she was warned about liquefaction when she moved to this area 20 years ago
"We knew that our house is on the reclaimed land and even the city office informed us," she says
But she was surprised that the damage could be so severe
All the damage in Urayasu offers some lessons for the future
There was much less damage at nearby Tokyo Disneyland
which is also built on reclaimed land — that's because Disney spent a lot of money to pack down the loose soil before building a theme park on it

Chiba Prefecture--After countless challenges and difficulties since its opening
Tokyo Disneyland recently celebrated its 40th anniversary here with its unchanging ideas of offering heartfelt hospitality and thorough safety measures
which has become Japan’s premier theme park as the “Kingdom of Dreams and Magic,” continue to inherit and pass on the high standards of the park to the future
“We will continue working at this park every day as hard as we did on our opening day with the hope that each of our guests will have a drawer full of cherished memories of their time here in their minds,” said Naoyuki Tsunezumi
(Tokyo Disneyland’s operator) before the amusement park was opened
Tsunezumi said he can still vividly remember the landmark date of April 15
About 3,000 visitors were waiting for the park’s opening in front of the gate of the park’s main entrance although it was drizzling out
Tsunezumi was responsible for the management of the Pirates of the Caribbean indoor boat ride
one of the facility’s main attractions at the time
He saw his workplace troubled by a succession of problems
a strict security system for the ride would detect minor splashes of water via sensors
which would then suspend the attraction’s operations
staffers had to push boats ashore to evacuate passengers on three occasions in one day
“None of us had sufficient expertise in the beginning,” recalled Tsunezumi
“New issues emerged every day to force us to repeat the process of trial and error.”
Another challenge was overcoming skepticism among those around him that Tokyo Disneyland would be successful
because people in Japan were unfamiliar with the concept of theme parks characterized by well-arranged ambience
He thought people might get bored within a single visit
Hoping to drive the anxiety out of his mind
Tsunezumi devoted himself to improving the establishment’s safety standards
He made it a habit to make a daily patrol of the park’s grounds in search of flawed facilities from two hours before opening
combined with the work from others at Tokyo Disneyland
contributed to the operator accomplishing its target of drawing 10 million visitors annually as soon as a year after the theme park opened
600 ride vehicles and parts from the attractions at Tokyo Disney Resort are overhauled each year in a specialized factory
Maintenance personnel are permanently stationed on the facility grounds as well
The commitment to security of Tokyo Disneyland was most exemplified during the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake
as an official in charge of disaster response
arranged for staff to tell 70,000 visitors to Tokyo Disney Resort to remain calm during the emergency
Stuffed toys were tentatively distributed as substitutes for safety headwear
drawing high praise for the “divine decision” on social media
Tokyo Disneyland’s commitment to safety “constitutes our unique form of hospitality that cannot be found elsewhere,” said Tsunezumi
Many have been so enchanted by not only the sense of security Tokyo Disneyland brings them but also staffers’ warm welcomes that some visitors have gone as far as to join the park’s workforce
went there on many occasions while pregnant with her daughter
Sekiguchi found it difficult to ride certain attractions during her childhood as she did not like loud noises
seemed to be full of joy to her because Sekiguchi loved the smiles that staffers showed her when she rode through a jungle-like area on a steam locomotive called the Western River Railroad
Sekiguchi began working part time at Tokyo Disneyland during her college days and became a permanent employee there in February 2020 following graduation
Sekiguchi offers guidance to her junior employees
“My hope is that I can become a portion of someone’s fond memories like those staffers in the past at the Western River Railroad were for me,” she said
The widespread use of the internet and smartphones has changed the way visitors spend time at Tokyo Disneyland over the course of 40 years
Taking photos and posting them on social media is one such idea that has changed how people experience the parks
Tsunezumi keeps taking on the role of a photographer when he makes his rounds as the park’s shift operation manager
He commits himself to snapping as good a picture as possible by taking a photo again and again
though visitors in bygone days would have been content with poorly taken ones with film cameras
describing them as “just part of the good memories.”
Tokyo Disney Resort debuts new ‘Beauty and the Beast’ area
Chiba Prefecture--Tokyo DisneySea’s newest port set to open June 6 will offer attractions that can’t be found at any other Disney theme park around the world
“We have created a new world of Disney fantasy that we can boast about to the world,” said Yumiko Takano
during the commemoration ceremony held on Feb
“We believe it will be a one-of-a-kind place that attracts global attention.”
With less than 100 days to go until Fantasy Springs opens
Oriental Land unveiled scale models and images of the nearly completed entrance to the area and other parts of the attractions to the media
The new port consists of three areas inspired by popular Disney films
including Frozen Kingdom based on “Frozen,” Rapunzel’s Forest featuring the world of “Tangled” and Peter Pan’s Never Land
in addition to the park-integrated Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel
Visitors will be greeted by a magical spring surrounded by rock sculptures featuring Disney characters at the port’s entrance
tavern and other structures from the movies faithfully re-created at the new port
guests can feel like they’re entering the world of Disney animation
Restaurants in each area will serve hamburgers
brownies and other food and drinks reflecting the worldview of each film
In addition to a ticket to Tokyo DisneySea
guests will need a Standby Pass (free) or Disney Premier Access (paid) to enter Fantasy Springs
Disneyland’s $60 billion expansion means parks in Hong Kong and Shanghai are only getting bigger
Chiba Prefecture--Tokyo Disneyland opened a new area themed on the Disney film “Beauty and the Beast” here on Sept
28 that had been delayed from April due to the novel coronavirus pandemic
One Tokyo 10-year-old girl gave it a big thumbs-up
“The characters were so nice because they look like the real ones
It was also amazing that the music was the same as in the movie,” said Konatsu Ito
who came to the park during a school holiday with her family and a friend
“But before getting something to eat or visiting the attractions
designed to immerse visitors inside the world of the movie
is carrying out preventive measures against the virus
Its new area reproduces the town depicted in the movie
The main attraction is “The Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast,” which is inside a 30-meter-high castle
visitors ride "magical" teacups that move along to music and pass through well-known scenes from the movie
The number of visitors is currently restricted for new attractions to avoid congestion
People who wish to visit them must make a reservation through a lottery system by using a special app after entering the park
Reservations are also required to enter restaurants and shops
Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea have been experiencing tough times due to the coronavirus pandemic
They reopened on July 1 for the first time in about four months
but have limited the number of visitors to less than half the usual capacity as an anti-virus measure and canceled major events and parades

but the spot kick was denied by Urayasu’s goalkeeper
With TANAKA Chihiro scoring a goal in the 21st minute to double the lead for Urayasu
League side earned their spot into the final with a 2-0 victory
a rematch from last year’s final took place
as SWH Ladies Futsal Club (Kansai2/Hyogo) and arco-iris Kobe (Kansai1/Hyogo) squared off against each other
It was SWH Ladies who scored the opener in this Hyogo derby
as FUJIE Saki captured the goal in the fourth minute

giving the defending champions a 2-1 lead at halftime

With Urayasu showcasing a persistent effort until the final whistle
giving Bardral Urayasu Las Bonitas their first ever Japan Women's Futsal Championship title in franchise history
Coach (Bardral Urayasu Las Bonitas)We started players with high defensive skills
so we felt like we would have our chance to win if we can hold off the opponent’s power-set
and it turned out that our tactic was very effective in today’s match
we managed to keep the opponents away from our goal
I was going to take full responsibility if we lost the match with this tactic
I am also relieved by the fact that our team has finally won a title
ITO Kaho (Bardral Urayasu Las Bonitas)I am so happy that we were able to win the title
We normally apply pressure from our front line
but today we played defence from the halfway line
It didn’t necessarily mean that we were playing passively
because we still played with the full intention to apply pressure to our opponents
We managed to play patiently and execute our game plan
League and the Regional Champions League left for us this season
so we hope to win the triple crown by winning these two titles
EGAWA Ryo (SWH Ladies Futsal Club)With Urayasu dropping back to the halfway line and playing a man-to-man coverage with great intensity
but Urayasu had the upper-hand against us with their tactics
so we hope to improve ourselves so that we can dominate our opponents
I personally have lost against a team I belonged until last year
it gives me more motivation towards next season
I must accept this loss and train myself so that we can win against them when we face them at the Women's F
KATO Masami (arco-iris Kobe)After our team has changed dramatically since last year
everyone worked hard to carry on the traditional futsal style of arco-iris
We managed to display quick transitions and showcased great fighting spirit after conceding the opening goal
The penalty shootouts are determined by luck
we just need to get stronger so that we can win the match within regulations time

(Reuters) – Expected tactics of England and South Africa in today’s Rugby World Cup final at Yokohama International Stadium:
and selectivity in when to engage in the physical battle
England had all of that from start to finish against New Zealand and they will need it again
to knock South Africa out of their stride in the final
meant New Zealand’s defence always seemed to be scrambling by the time twin playmakers George Ford and Owen Farrell were fizzing passes left and right
England’s try after 97 seconds saw half a dozen examples of quick ball
but the sweeping move retained its pace because the likes of hooker Jamie George and prop Kyle Sinckler did not slow it down when they got involved
England will want more of that for 80 minutes today
working the big South African side back and forth again and again hoping to run the legs off them and then penetrate the gaps when they appear
The contrast with how South Africa played against Wales in their semi-final was extraordinary — the Springboks were never in a hurry to go anywhere
England will try to disrupt that by making a nuisance of themselves at rucks
knowing that they could waste precious energy trying to shift some enormous Springboks forwards for often no real benefit
Instead they will back themselves to deal with the aerial assault they know is coming
Wingers Jonny May and Anthony Watson have shown themselves brave and effective jumpers
while fullback Elliot Daly knows this is the day when he will have to prove the doubters wrong over that aspect of his game
George Ford will also be bracing himself for the most important defensive test of his career
Having seen how South Africa successfully targeted the channel of Wales flyhalf Dan Biggar
Coach Eddie Jones has backed him to stand his ground
resisting any temptation to return to the meatier midfield option he went for in the quarter-final with Owen Farrell at 10
The Springboks have pretty much reverted to what has worked for them for decades
and though they may have the odd trick up their sleeves for the final
the selection of six forwards on the bench is an indicator of how they will approach the game
one that can be difficult to combat as Wales found in the semi-final
Orchestrating the system are flyhalf Handre Pollard and scrumhalf Faf de Klerk
a bundle of energy who can also make rugby time stand still when poised at the back of an immovable ruck waiting to send yet another kick high into the sky
Then the pace of outside backs Willie le Roux
Makazole Mapimpi and the hyper-dangerous Cheslin Kolbe give chase to put receivers under pressure
Centres Lukhanyo Am and Damian de Allende are more from the “through rather than around” school of centres but Springboks’ hopes of victory probably depend more on Pollard kicking penalties than his fellow backs running in tries
