(WPDE) — A man is suing Shark Wake Park 843 after he suffered "significant injuries" in 2024
according to a lawsuit filed in Horry County Common Pleas Court on April 25
"struck in the head by an object knocking him into the water resulting in significant injuries" on the waterpark's wake boarding course ride
He claimed that these injuries required "extensive medical treatment" and that he has suffered pain and "a loss of enjoyment of life."
"unable to get out of the water on his own and no employees of Defendants came to his aid."
The lawsuit also alleges that Greene had no knowledge of the "dangerous condition" on the waterpark's premises and that there were no signs or warnings posted

"When the milk dries up and it’s powder
They gone.” He stressed it wasn’t a diss
He likened Travis to “one of [his] little homies,” adding he felt compelled to drop some wisdom
Bow Wow made it clear that he’s a fan of Hunter
We all rootin’ for you.”
But with Hunter already winning the Heisman Trophy and Being the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft
“You about to make the biggest bag of your life… There’s gonna be time for all that
Perhaps Bow Wow’s strongest plea was about keeping personal life off the timeline.

A senior UK minister [this week] will warn businesses to protect themselves against cyber threats after a spate of attacks on retailers including Marks & Spencer Group Plc
“These attacks need to be a wake-up call for every business in the UK,” Cabinet Office Minister Pat McFadden
will say in a speech at the CyberUK conference in Manchester next week
according to remarks released by his department
(Editor’s note: This Bloomberg article was originally published on Friday
so the McFadden speech will take place this week)
McFadden on Friday led a briefing with security officials including Richard Horne
chief of the National Cyber Security Centre
in the wake of hacks on M&S and the supermarket chain Co-op
A ransomware attack was the cause of the disruption at M&S
with hackers using a potent kind of malware to lock down some of the British retailer’s systems and render them inaccessible

“In a world where the cyber criminals targeting us are relentless in their pursuit of profit, with attempts being made every hour of every day, companies must treat cyber security as an absolute priority,” McFadden will say next week.
The minister will announce further steps the government is taking to help protect businesses against hacking attempts, including through the Cyber Resilience Bill. As part of that legislation ministers will require 1,000 companies providing IT services to critical national infrastructure to shore up their cyber defenses.
The NCSC also urged businesses to follow advice on its website about the steps they should be taking to ensure they minimize the risks of hacks.

“On behalf of the entire organization, I would like to thank Rob for his dedication to the L.A. Kings and the passion he brought to the role,” president Luc Robitaille said in a statement. “Reaching this understanding wasn’t easy and I appreciate Rob’s partnership in always working toward what is best for the Kings.
“Rob deserves a great deal of credit and respect for elevating us to where we are today. He has been an important part of the Kings and will always be appreciated for what he has meant to this franchise.”
The search for a new general manager will begin immediately, the Kings said.
Kings
The Kings showed great promise entering their first-round playoff series against nemesis Edmonton
but a few key miscues sealed the Oilers’ series win
Speaking to reporters Monday, Kings coach Jim Hiller said he hadn’t talked with Robitaille yet regarding his future
signed a three-year contract with the Kings last May
Robitaille is scheduled to to speak Tuesday about the coaching situation and the search for a new general manager
After taking over on an interim basis for Todd McLellan midway through the 2023-24 season
Hiller rallied the Kings to a playoff berth
He had success in his first full regular season as coach but has taken much of the blame for the team’s early postseason exit
Blake, 55, was a Hall of Fame defenseman whose 20-year NHL playing career included two stints with the Kings. He spent several of those seasons playing alongside Robitaille. He was brought back to the Kings as assistant general manager ahead of the 2013-14 season, which ended with the team winning its second Stanley Cup
Less than four years later the team fired general manager Dean Lombardi, the architect of its two Stanley Cup champions, and promoted Blake, who quickly went about expanding the team’s player-development program
making it one of the most robust in the NHL
Yet the Kings haven’t won a playoff series since
marking the 11th straight season the Kings have failed to win a postseason series
the Kings lost Game 6 and were eliminated by the Oilers the first round of the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year
But Blake fixed that last summer, moving Dubois to the Washington Capitals in exchange for goaltender Darcy Kuemper, who had a career season and is one of three finalists for the Vezina Trophy. Blake also made an important deal at the March trade deadline, acquiring forward Andrei Kuzmenko from the Philadelphia Flyers, who also agreed to split the remainder of Kuzmenko’s salary.
The trade immediately improved the Kings’ offense and rescued an impotent power play, helping win 17 of its final 22 games to place second in the Pacific Division, the best finish of Blake’s term as general manager.
But that luck — and Blake’s time with the team — ended in the playoffs.

The Trump administration has canceled millions of dollars in grants to provide more mental health services to students in Wake County and rural North Carolina schools
as well as other schools across the nation
Department of Education told WRAL News that grants were not continued for K-12 schools and universities across the country because some applicants listed diversity goals in hiring and diversity training in their applications
It's unclear what the administration objected to in the Wake County Public School System's application
and it's unclear how many other grants in North Carolina have been canceled
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill won't receive the nearly $1 million it was expecting to in 2026 and 2027 for its program that sought to train more mental health professionals to work in rural schools
"The Department has undertaken a review of grants and determined that the grant specified above provides funding for programs that reflect the prior Administration's priorities and policy preferences and conflict with those of the current Administration," an April 29 letter from the U.S
Department of Education to the district states
signed by department senior adviser Murray Bessette
says the district's program violates or conflicts with any one of four federal policies or laws but doesn't state which one
"We owe it to American families to ensure that tax-payer dollars are supporting evidence-based practices that are truly focused on improving students' mental health."
Schools can keep their funding for this year
except "unobligated funds," but their grants won't be renewed for the final years of their cycle
The Wake County Public School System received $14.1 million that leaders planned to use over five years to hire 24 mental health professionals and three staff trained to responded to crises to work in some schools
The district received $2.3 million for its first year this year
officials had only laid the groundwork for the program and starting the hiring process for next school year
It would have expanded the district's school-based mental health program
which is in 106 of the district's 199 schools
and the letter to the district states that the district can ask for the decision to be reconsidered
"The Wake County Public School System remains committed to supporting the well-being and success of every student," a district statement says
"While we continuously seek innovative and research-backed solutions to serve our school communities
recent developments at the federal level have impacted our ability to move forward with one such initiative."
In a note to the school board in April 2024
as the district prepared to apply for the grant
district officials noted that the Biden administration encouraged applicants to form plans for how they would recruit or retain qualified professionals from diverse backgrounds
In a brief summary of Wake's program on the U.S
the department lists Wake's goal to field "diverse candidates" and notes that the school system would commit to the federal grant program's priority to increase the number of credentialed providers "who are from diverse backgrounds or communities" that reflect the students the school serves
The summary of UNC-Chapel Hill's program on the department's website doesn't mention diversity
The program hoped to "reduce and mitigate the inequities of mental health and economic disparities among low income and rural students," according to the summary
A university spokesperson told WRAL News that the grant program would be funded through Dec
per communication from the federal education department
The university is still evaluating how to respond to the announcement
For years, schools in North Carolina and beyond have been expanding students' access to mental health services
anxiety and suicide ideation among young people
Since President Donald Trump's inauguration about 100 days ago
the administration has tried to get rid of diversity
The administration canceled hundreds of millions of dollars in teacher training grants earlier this year because of diversity initiatives in some of the grants
Many state education and school leaders have countered that diversity, equity and inclusion programs comply with federal civil rights laws
Many schools have long sought to diversify their workforces
which are disproportionately white by a wide margin
millions of dollars from the federal grant programs in question have come into the state and to school systems and universities across the country via the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act passed by Congress and signed into law by former President Joe Biden
equally split into two existing grant programs
One of the grants was focused on hiring more well-qualified mental health staff in schools
and the other was focused on training mental health service providers to work in schools
the department told WRAL News they were canceling $1 billion in grants
but it wasn't immediately clear what all that encompassed
Some of the $1 billion in the bill has already been spent
and the department also told WRAL that they were halting grants "in cases that awards were not advancing Administration priorities." Additionally
the grant programs predate the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act
and it's unclear how much funding they received separately from that legislation
at DPI and at North Carolina State University
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro
The university grants were intended to help the schools train providers to work in Johnston
Halifax and Alamance-Burlington school systems

I would first like to point out to Gignac that everyone who does not agree with his halcyon vision of wakeboard boats is
I am an avid fisherman who now in the summer months can only fish the small areas of the lake designated as no-wake zones
Because I own a modest open fishing boat which has served me in perfect safety for many years
I have been on the lake in very bad conditions
the wind and waves come from one direction and I can adjust my angle and speed to compensate and operate my boat safely
Opinion: Wake surfing done responsibly is fine. Don't restrict Wisconsin boaters like me.
Wakeboard boats each generate their own wave pattern — now add 8 or 10 boats operating on a lake and you are faced with serious waves coming from all directions
Even more dangerous is the zone where waves interact and add their energy together
I have watched wakeboard boats start in a large
shallow bay and leave behind a path of silt
ripped up weeds and dazed little bluegills spinning on the surface
Later on it looks like plows have ripped up the lake bottom in straight lines
I agree responsible wakeboarding is not a problem — except responsible operation should be on lakes over 2,000 acres and in more than 20 feet of water
Letters: Wake surfers should ask other lake users what they think about their speed bumps
Opinion: On Wisconsin’s glacial lakes, wake-enhanced boating damaging and dangerous
Here are some tips to get your views shared with your friends

Wake Forest Hosts Gardner-Webb to Open May5/2/2025 1:55:00 PM | Baseball
The Demon Deacons look to continue a three-game win streak
We chat with author Nova Ren Suma about Wake The Wild Creatures
and must-read novel that explores freedom and rage as a young woman plots her way back to her hidden mountaintop home after her mother’s arrest for murder.
Can you tell our readers a bit about yourself
sometimes fantastical novels about girls and young women
I’m fascinated by places lost on maps and lost to time
including Imaginary Girls (a town drowned at the bottom of a reservoir)
The Walls Around Us (a girls’ juvenile detention center haunted by ghosts)
and now Wake the Wild Creatures (an off-grid community of fugitive women built in an abandoned Catskill Mountain hotel)
Wake the Wild Creatures may not be autobiographical in terms of plot
but it’s the book containing the most honest and bared parts of me that I’ve ever written… so far
When did you first discover your love for writing and stories
In elementary school I wrote a story about an alien family from Venus
I bound it as a book and used my colored markers to illustrate the scenes
My teacher’s praise about it filled me with a great sense of joy and purpose
I was intensely shy as a child—I didn’t speak in class
though I read voraciously—and I discovered that I could speak through my writing in a way I wasn’t able to otherwise
Writing became a lifeline and has been ever since
If you could only describe it in five words
Wake the Wild Creatures is a YA story of survival with a touch of the fantastic about a girl named Talia who is captured from an off-grid community of fugitive women hidden at an abandoned hotel deep in the mountains
Talia is forced to enter what she’s always been so frightened to imagine: the outside world
There she lives with estranged family she never knew existed and tries to understand who betrayed her community
This is a character-driven story that immerses the reader in Talia’s experience both at the occupied hotel on the mountain as a child and in the broken society below
where she’s sixteen and knows she doesn’t belong
Readers will find flawed and fierce women and girls in this book
magical thinking connected to the natural world
and for anyone who wants to consider living a different kind of life of their own making
Where did the inspiration for Wake The Wild Creatures come from
Novels come from a thousand disconnected sources
and this one stemmed from my wild childhood running free in the woods
the generational effects of trauma on young children
an ongoing fascination with female outlaws and fugitives
and challenging my own pessimism about humanity and the concept of utopias
there was one single spark that set this book idea into motion: A birthday present
but I must give credit where credit is due: Libba Bray
gifted me a piece of art for my birthday years ago
It was a pen-and-ink drawing called “Daughters of the Forest” by an artist named Megan Eckman and it has a touch of possible magic in it
That glimmer of magic surprised me because I didn’t catch it in the picture at first
and from that surprise the seeds of this book emerged
Were there any moments or characters you really enjoyed writing or exploring
I love writing chaos and discomforting moments of confusion and even
One of my favorite sequences in Wake the Wild Creatures takes place when Talia is a child
when she’s deep in the woods with a few other girls from the community and they spy a set of intruders
Three men have hiked up the mountain to find the hidden community and do the women there harm
and the girls make their best attempt to protect everyone and defend their home
Writing the frenzy of what happens to those men who should never have tried to trespass thrilled me
See alsoQ&A: Juliette Cross, Author of ‘Firebird’
Did you face any challenges whilst writing
There was an agonizing point a few years ago when I lost all confidence and didn’t think I could articulate the story the way it deserved
I fantasized about stepping away from the book
But when you’re about to let go of something
That moment motivated me and I threw myself into revising the book and proving I could make it into something beautiful
I decided to leap ahead and write the end of the book I wished I’d written… I visualized everything I imagined the novel could be in my wildest dreams and pretended I’d already written it that way
Then I wrote just the last page of that version of the book and pinned it to my wall
I would read those three paragraphs aloud and remind myself of what I was striving for and writing toward
the last three paragraphs in the finished book are pretty much what I had on my wall for all that time
I think seeing the end up there made me believe I could actually rewrite the whole book
I’m in the early stages of a strange new YA novel
and those exploratory days of finding the story before the pressure sets in are always filled with such wonder and possibility
But for some time now I’ve also been working on a novel that’s very much not YA—it’s a return to what I first wrote when I was starting out as a writer
A dream deferred only grows into a dream that has teeth
what books are you looking forward to picking up this year

Just months into Donald Trump's second term, a new round of polling has delivered a jolt to Democrats
revealing that Trump is more trusted than them in Congress
Recent polls have shown Trump's approval ratings declining and his popularity at an all-time low
polls still seem to show that Trump is commanding more trust than his main opposition party
This dynamic not only strengthens Trump's hand as he advances his second-term agenda but also signals a daunting challenge for Democrats heading into the 2026 midterms—one that could further erode their influence at both state and federal levels
Donald Trump appeared to be riding a wave of political momentum—his approval ratings had climbed into positive territory for the first time in his career
and polls suggested he was more popular than ever
But recent polls suggest that Trump now holds the distinction of being the least popular president at the 100-day mark of a second term
surpassing even the historically low ratings he received during his first presidency
A CNN/SSRS survey conducted April 17—24 among 1,678 adults found that only 41 percent approve of his job performance
while 59 percent disapprove—a 4-point drop since March and 7 points lower than in late February
This marks the lowest 100-day approval rating for any president since modern polling began under Eisenhower and is even worse than Trump's own first-term numbers
A Fox News poll from April 18—21 of 1,104 registered voters showed a net approval of -10 points
with 44 percent approving and 55 percent disapproving—down 8 points from the previous month
In comparison to past presidents at the same point in office, Trump is far behind: Joe Biden had a 54 percent approval rating, Barack Obama 62 percent, and George W. Bush 63 percent
Trump's rating has fallen to just 39 percent in an ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll conducted April 18—22 among 2,464 adults—down 6 points since February
with 46 percent of registered voters assigning Trump an "F" grade for his performance—the worst 100-day grade ever recorded for a U.S
some suggest he is still more popular than the Democrats
The CNN/SSRS poll showed that when respondents were asked who would be doing a better job as president, 45 percent chose Trump, while 43 percent chose Kamala Harris. "This looks a lot like the election result," CNN pollster Harry Enten noted
The 2024 election saw Trump beat Harris in the popular vote by two points
That would suggest that voters' support for Trump has not shifted all that much since November
An ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll
conducted between April 18 to 22 among 3,634 respondents
showing that when respondents were asked who they trusted more to deal with the U.S.'s main problems
compared to just 32 percent who chose Democrats in Congress
And in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, conducted between April 25-27 among 1,029 adults, the Republicans held a significant advantage over Democrats on two of the most pressing issues for voters: immigration and the economy
a Democratic strategist and former adviser to Kamala Harris
told Newsweek that recent polling reflects lingering dissatisfaction with Joe Biden's presidency
which he said has damaged the Democratic brand
and Democrats now need to "earn people's trust back" rather than rely on Trump's unpopularity
He urged the party to elevate "a new generation of Democratic leaders" who can connect with voters on core issues like economic security and immigration
Nellis warned that Americans are frustrated with both parties
CNN pollster Harry Enten echoed that warning
calling the numbers "a major wake-up call" for Democrats and cautioning
"those eggs have not cracked at this particular moment."
It comes at a time when polls have shown that following their 2024 election loss, the Democrats are more unpopular than ever.
According to an NBC News poll from March 7-11, 55 percent of respondents said they had a negative view of the Democratic Party
while 27 percent said they had a positive perception
That is the lowest level recorded since NBC News began asking the question in 1990
There was also evidence of dissatisfaction with the party from its base
with 20 percent of Democratic voters viewing it negatively
twice as high as the figure for Republicans who had a negative view of their party
The survey suggested that this may be because Democratic voters want their party to take a tougher position in Congress
65 percent said they wanted their congressional representatives to "stick to their positions even if that means not being able to get things done in Washington," while 32 percent said they should "make compromises with Trump to gain consensus on legislation."
The poll largely reflects the debates occurring in the Democratic party right now in light of their 2024 defeat
Some feel that in order to get back on track and win back the House in the 2026 midterms
the party should take a more bipartisan approach to politics
while others feel that doing so will alienate Democratic voters who see Trump as a toxic figure
This dispute played out this week when Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer joined Trump at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County
A Reddit post from political group 50501 accused her of "destructive enabling behavior" and legitimizing a president they believe should face impeachment
said on X that Whitmer is "disqualifying herself" because of her actions
a veterans and gun reform advocate and a naval intelligence officer
who said on X: "It's ridiculous that Democrats are upset with Gov
Gretchen Whitmer for joining President Trump at Selfridge Air National Guard Base."
added: "You won't catch me complaining about Gretchen Whitmer saving tens of thousands of jobs or bringing in federal relief for people without power in Michigan
Whitmer's appearance followed her disastrous meeting in the Oval Office last week
The Michigan governor had gone to see the president for what she described as a private meeting
when Whitmer was left standing in front of cameras as Trump signed an executive order targeting a critic and repeating his debunked claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him
A New York Times photographer captured her at one point shielding her face with folders
Whitmer's office said the governor was brought into the Oval Office in front of the press "without any notice" and emphasized that her presence was not an "endorsement of the actions taken or statements" made at that event
some Democrats accusing her of "appeasement."
writing on X: "I'll work with anyone who's serious about getting things done
But I'll never compromise on what I believe
we know how to get things done—and that means working together."
She added: "Bipartisanship isn't about sacrificing our values
It's about standing strong and finding common ground to get things done
a Chicago-based Democratic strategist and former senior adviser to Kamala Harris
told Newsweek: "These polls don't surprise me
They're a product of how unpopular Joe Biden was at the end of his presidential term
most people associate the Democratic Party brand with a presidency they weren't happy with
"Democrats have to earn people's trust back
We can't coast on the fact that Trump is making everything worse or that he's a very unlikable human being
We have to acknowledge that we need to elevate a new generation of Democratic leaders—leaders who can articulate and fight for a message that resonates with people
"We're going to have to figure out how we talk about certain issues
because we haven't been advocating or communicating around issues like immigration in a way that makes sense to people
That's given Republicans a tremendous opportunity
"But Trump has once again royally screwed up an incredible opportunity to unify the country because he can't get out of his own way
the American people are frustrated with both political parties
we have 18 months to win people over with a new generation of candidates."
CNN pollster Harry Enten said: "These numbers should be a major wake-up call for Democrats
Democrats cannot count their chickens just yet
because those eggs have not cracked at this particular moment."
Americans will head to the polls to elect new senators and representatives
The Democrats have vowed to flip both chambers
which are currently held by the Republicans

Steve & Johnetta Forbes Commit $500,000 to Benefit Wake Forest Student-Athletes4/30/2025 1:51:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The Forbes family’s generosity to Wake Forest University and Wake Forest men’s basketball will help the Demon Deacons program in a multitude of ways.
During Sunday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs ace Shota Imanaga suffered a hamstring strain that could land him on the injured list
The Cubs won't know the severity of the injury or how long Imanaga could be out for until he receives an MRI on Monday
But from the way the second-year left-hander was limping
and the fact that he immediately exited the game
the Cubs need to prepare for a stint on the injured list
Chicago has already suffered one significant blow to their starting rotation when Justin Steele received season-ending elbow surgery earlier this year. The starting rotation is already on a shaky foundation with Colin Rea and Ben Brown being mainstays, not to mention Matthew Boyd's injury risk.
But until Chicago can attempt to swing a trade for a starter
Chris Flexen is the most likely option to slide into the starting rotation
He is already on the active roster and he is stretched out as a starter
The 30-year-old spent the first month of the season starting games for the Iowa Cubs in Triple-A and he dazzled with a 1.16 ERA in five starts
with 21 strikeouts over 23.1 innings pitched
The right-hander also limited opponents to a .224 batting average
Since his minor league contract featured an opt-out on May 1, Flexen was called up to take the swingman/long reliever job in the major league bullpen after Javier Assad was shelved with an oblique strain
and it came during Friday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers
The veteran pitcher piggybacked Ben Brown's dominant outing to provide three shutout innings of his own while striking out four
Flexen has had a rough track record over the last two seasons (9.20 ERA)
but it wasn't long ago he was a vital contributor to the Seattle Mariners rotation
The veteran has eight years of MLB experience as both a starter and reliever
Flexen just makes the most sense right now

This is the sexy option that everyone on the internet is calling for, but I have reservations about calling up top pitching prospect Cade Horton this early
While the 23-year-old has dazzled with the Iowa Cubs this year
Horton still needs time to mature in Triple-A
The young starter still only has 151 2/3 innings of professional baseball under his belt and he is coming off a shoulder injury that caused him to miss two-thirds of the 2024 season
The Cubs should be wary of starting the clock on Horton's major-league career until he has proven he can stay healthy a bit longer
I think Horton will be used on the major-league team at some point this year
But I think it's wise to let him get some more reps and get his body used to pitching 5+ innings every fifth day
The Cubs should do everything they can to preserve the long-term health and longevity of Horton as an MLB starter
and calling him up in May could be counterintuitive
the Cubs designated right-handed reliever Keegan Thompson for assignment
but he cleared waivers and opted to stay with the organization
And the former starter has quietly put together a solid first month with the Iowa Cubs
The 30-year-old has compiled a 2.41 ERA and struck out 27 batters over 18.2 innings pitched
Thompson has been going longer in his relief outings and started three games
including in his last appearance on Friday
Thompson tossed four innings while only surrendering one earned run
In the scenario of the Cubs calling up Thompson
it seems like he would be used out of the bullpen as the swingman and Flexen gets used as a starter
Or they could try Thompson in the rotation first
Using Thompson would mean clearing a 40-man roster spot
but it might be worth it if Imanaga goes on the IL and Thompson has plenty of experience in the bigs (227.1 innings)
The other option would be calling up Jordan Wicks, but the southpaw has been completely ineffective for both Triple-A and the Cubs. Wicks gave up seven earned runs and two home runs in his last start on May 1. After allowing six hits and five earned runs in his two games with the Cubs this year, and immediately getting sent back down
it seems unlikely he will get another call until he strings together some good outings
The Chicago Cubs could be without Shota Imanaga for some time
opening a path for one of the team's depth options

the A’s return to Sacramento looking to do damage against the AL West leading Seattle Mariners
The A’s have played very well since mid-April and are now in second place behind the Mariners
so there’s much for A’s fans to celebrate at the moment
But if you’re a worrywart, you might still be in shock from Saturday’s disastrous finish from Mason Miller; that’s not a good state of mind in which to calmly regard the very brutal stretch the A’s have ahead of them this month: their next three series are against current division leaders
but I believe the A’s will put up a good fight—and there are plenty of reasons for optimism about this team
even if their star closer has proven less than invincible
First off, the A’s starting pitching is trending up again: Jeffrey Springs was brilliant in his most recent start as was newcomer Gunnar Hogland in his MLB debut
JP Sears is pumping strikes as consistently as ever and has possibly leveled up a bit
as well: he’s posted a 2.94 ERA through six starts and is issuing walks at well below his career average rate
The bullpen may have shown some cracks recently
but Justin Sterner has also continued to emerge as a terrific setup man; he’s yet to allow a run this season
It is a bit dissapointing to see Miller stumble just as Sterner is arriving as the closer’s perfect companion
His 4.97 ERA ain’t pretty but I think we can all agree his 2.35 FIP is more representative of his caliber
The Reaper was 10-for-10 in save opportunities before Saturday
Oh yeah—and Nick Kurtz finally got an extra base hit
there is much to like about this year’s Athletics so far
But keeping up the pace through the rest of the month will definitely be a challenge

Minnesota averaged just 3.33 runs per game in the three-game set
another demonstration of its recent offensive woes
the Twins are 22nd in OPS (.672) and batting average (.236)
The Twins earned a hard-fought 2-1 series win against the Boston Red Sox last weekend
Injuries are one of the leading causes of the Twins’ offensive struggles this season
Kody Clemens and Jonah Bride hold spots on the big league roster
Bride, who went 4-for-40 to start the season with Miami, has actually been good since joining the Twins, collecting seven hits in 20 at-bats. But there’s no good reason to keep Gasper and Clemens on the team when outfielder Carson McCusker has a .991 OPS for Triple-A St. Paul.
The Twins certainly can afford to lose Gasper or Clemens- especially when they will likely be gone when Royce Lewis and Willi Castro return shortly anyway
the Twins can send down DaShawn Keirsey Jr
in favor of McCusker if Derek Falvey and company are worried about infield depth
The bottom line is when a team is struggling offensively as badly as the Twins have this season, it has nothing significant to lose in calling up someone like McCusker, who has a .319/.385/.606 batting line with seven home runs and 27 RBI for the Saints this season
If McCusker ends up unable to hit major-league pitching consistently
We know Gasper and Clemens will only get the occasional big hit
And while we don’t know if McCusker’s minor league success can translate to the major league level
he’s hitting well enough to at least earn an opportunity to showcase his skills at the highest level
Despite the Brewers selecting him out of junior college in the 26th round of the 2017 MLB Draft, McCusker played four years of baseball at Oklahoma State University then went undrafted after the 2021 season
He subsequently played three years in the independent Frontier League before the Twins signed him to a minor league contract in 2023
McCusker started 2023 in Single-A Fort Myers before finishing the year with High-A Cedar Rapids. He spent last season in Double-A and Triple-A and has been with the Saints this year
In 808 plate appearances in the Twins organization
McCusker has a .283/.352/.518 slash line with 40 home runs and 135 RBI
The Twins are scheduled to begin a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles at 6:40 p.m
The probable starting pitchers for Game 1 are Twins righty Pablo López and Orioles lefty Cade Povich

Billionaire tells Daily Mail ‘left media’ frightened party away from ‘anything Trump’ and calls on Liberals to adopt ‘commonsense and truth’ principles
Gina Rinehart has encouraged the Liberal party to stick with Donald Trump-like policies after the opposition’s electoral thumping on Saturday night in a campaign overshadowed by the controversial US president.
The mining billionaire also singled out Italy and Hungary, which are governed by populist rightwing coalitions, as countries Australia could aspire to, where people were “abandoning the myths or untruths of the left” and returning to “common sense and truth”.
In a lengthy statement to the Daily Mail on Monday
Australia’s richest person broke her silence following the Coalition’s wipeout on Saturday night
“The left media did a very successful effort, frightening many in the Liberal party from anything Trump
and away from any Trump-like policies,” she wrote
“This has been especially obvious this year
with the Liberals instead becoming known as the ‘me too’ party
Trump-style ‘make Australia great’ policies via cutting government tape
too scarce in Australia this year to rate a mention

“No doubt the left media will now try to claim that the Liberal loss was because the Liberal party followed Trump and became too right
Rinehart urged the Liberals to return to “commonsense and truth” principles as a first port of call while rebuilding the party
which together with the Nationals could be left with as a few as 42 seats
She added voters were “very short on understanding” that new investments create revenue and living standards
The mining billionaire, who had cultivated a close relationship with Dutton as opposition leader
then turned her attention to left-leaning voters
Referencing a trip to the US before last November’s election
Rinehart said she had met with former Democrat voters who had since turned Republican
“There are dedicated organisations working hard to bring back common sense and truth in the USA.”
Rinehart said Argentina had been a socialist country for more than a century, leaving its “people suffering terribly” before its rightwing leader, Javier Milei

Rinehart also pointed to Italy and Hungry, governed by populist rightwing coalitions, as countries that “get it” and ones Australia should look to.

Hancock Prospecting’s executive chairwoman mostly stayed mum during the federal election, airing her policy ideas only once during an Anzac Day eve speech.
To an audience that included three former prime ministers – John Howard, Tony Abbott and Scott Morrison – along with Dutton and the defence minister, Richard Marles, Rinehart said Australia needed to lift its defence spending to at least 5% of GDP and invest in an Israeli-style Iron Dome defence system.
At her national mining day event last November, Rinehart said Australia should learn from the success of Trump.
“As I have repeatedly stated, we need to cut government tape, regulations, governments’ wastage and tax burdens across Australia,” Rinehart said.
“We need a USA-style Doge [department of government efficiency] that delivers action, one that helps to return dollars to our pockets and investment back to Australia.

The Coalition’s Indigenous affairs spokesperson, Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, also came under fire for her support of Trump during the campaign, after she used the popularised catchphrase “make Australia great again” during a supporter rally in Perth
who was the face of the opposition’s successful no campaign
seldom appeared at other events or stops throughout the campaigning period
Price described her sidelining as being “absolutely frustrating” given her visible role in the voice campaign
“We probably didn’t capitalise enough on the outcome of the referendum
the success of the Coalition in that regard,” she told the Kenny Report on Sky News
“The fact that we didn’t pin that to the prime minister effectively enough – I think that’s that was a lost opportunity there.”
Price also compared the media to a “bunch of vultures” who “will absolutely go [at] you on one particular issue and smear you” with “another country’s president”

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nearly four months after wildfires reduced thousands of Los Angeles-area homes to rubble and ash
Hundreds of homeowners have sought city or county approval for new home designs and other permits to eventually rebuild or repair damaged homes
though few have gotten the green light to break ground
businesses and other structures burned to the ground in the Jan
Facing overwhelming loss and the chaos that comes with sudden displacement
those looking to rebuild must navigate an often confusing and time-consuming process
