so yes it's the same world as the older Virtua Fighter games," Yamada said
we're planning to make it so that by playing the new Virtua Fighter you'll find out things about the previous games that weren't necessarily apparent in them on their own," he added
In regards to when in the universe the next Virtua Fighter takes place
Yamada couldn't reveal that information at this time
we're going to keep that a secret for now," he said

The accomplished alum visited Carleton to reflect on his experience and career
a distinguished alum who has dedicated his career to fostering global partnerships and now serves as the Japanese ambassador to the United States
Yamada shared reflections on his time at Carleton and the lessons that have shaped his diplomatic career
The evening began with a warm introduction from Carleton president Alison Byerly
who underscored Yamada’s impressive career trajectory
After earning his second bachelor’s degree at Carleton
Yamada held influential positions in Washington
consistently advocating for international collaboration
“I’m happy to be back,” expressing gratitude for the opportunity to reconnect with the community that played such a pivotal role in his life
he acknowledged the trope of the seasoned alum sharing stories of “what it used to be like” and embraced it
Originally sent to the United States to better understand the country
Yamada chose Carleton for its close-knit community and rigorous academics
he described the nervous anticipation of starting a new life alone in a foreign land
the kindness he encountered — from floormates who welcomed him
to an adviser whose generosity made a lasting impression — helped him find his footing
Yamada highlighted the friendships that defined his Carleton experience
spanning topics from personal anecdotes to cultural differences
He recalled one pivotal moment when Ehrhardt asked why Japan was important to the United States
Yamada admitted he struggled to respond at the time
but that moment became the cornerstone of his career in diplomacy
Central to Yamada’s philosophy is the belief that strong interpersonal relationships form the bedrock of effective diplomacy
“The most important element between two countries is the relationship between their people,” Yamada said
His bond with Ehrhardt exemplified this principle
proving that mutual understanding and trust between individuals can translate into stronger international partnerships
“Everything important I learned about this country
noting that these experiences reinforced his commitment to fostering meaningful connections for the sake of diplomacy
associate professor of political science and chair of political science and international relations
On the current state of U.S.–Japan relations
Yamada painted a picture of strength and collaboration
emphasizing shared values like the rule of law
He pointed to the importance of standing united against global challenges
including Russian aggression and the implications for East Asia
“Today’s Ukraine could be tomorrow’s East Asia,” he warned
reaffirming Japan’s readiness to work alongside the U.S
Yamada identified three key priorities for Japanese security: maintaining a strong U.S.–Japan alliance
addressing Indo-Pacific security challenges through cooperation with like-minded nations
and ensuring economic resilience through competitive supply chains
When asked why he chose a diplomatic career
Yamada spoke of his passion for international peace and stability
but Czobor-Lupp countered with encouragement: “It’s not naive
For students considering diplomacy as a career
Yamada offered practical and philosophical guidance
He urged them to embrace Carleton’s liberal arts education
emphasizing the value of broad knowledge in becoming a productive diplomat
Yamada encouraged Carleton students to follow in his footsteps
“I’d love to work with fellow Carls to strengthen peace,” he said

‘Their scale is the same — or even larger — than the rooms themselves.’ In this compact home
there’s no single viewpoint that reveals the full picture
architecture becomes a series of tactile fragments: the cool dampness of raw concrete
Brutalist home for a couple and their two cats
Suzuko Yamada Architects orchestrates a choreography of voids
happens not within rooms but in the negative space between forms
Activities like cooking or laundry become spatial negotiations between monolithic elements
‘The family of objects appears to have looked for and found their places within the structure,’ the architects note
describing a kind of architectural natural selection
The two cats traverse this new terrain with ease
moving through openings and around corners
trailing breezes that thread the structure with fresh air and ambient noise from the street.
Nakano House occupies the entire 26 square meter lot in a dense Tokyo neighborhood
The architects reject the idea of a ‘seamless integration’ between architecture and life
Light from the street collides with concrete
‘Both life and nature are in tension with the architecture,’ they write
‘They exist together and sometimes connect
but never blend.’ The result is a house that feels more like a chunk of urban geology than a home — a Brutalist mountain lodged in the cityscape
a space that’s alive precisely because it’s not trying to be
two staircases and cat walkways are treated as core structural elements
the interior is defined by raw concrete surfaces and oversized architectural elements

Suzuko Yamada Architects has unveiled a newly built Tokyo residence with a striking
Named the “Nakano House,” the building unfolds in multiple concrete levels within a small lot near a bustling shopping district
the interior’s megalithic volumes and raw materiality create a sense of timelessness and spatial ambiguity in one of the world’s busiest metropolises
While the different levels and rooms peek through the steps and railings
lofted levels are configured to obscure the scale of structural elements
“The house should belong to the inhabitant but seems to evade ownership
existing in place as if it were a mountain or the city itself,” the firm said in a statement
*This interview contains major spoilers for Anne of Green Gables
'It's been my experience that you can nearly always enjoy things if you make up your mind firmly that you will,' right?” Yamada began
but she uses her imagination to imagine her friends in the mirror and other things
She doesn't let herself stay in the depths of sadness
I like the fact that she's always cheerful.”
This is a philosophy that Yamada uses in her everyday life
I'll consider it more tomorrow.' I can't keep mulling about unpleasant things forever
And if I go to bed deciding I'll think about the issue tomorrow
Beyond Anne's optimistic way of viewing the world
Yamada thinks that another aspect of her character has kept her story in the popular consciousness for over 100 years: Anne's insatiable curiosity for knowledge
She wasn't studying because she was forced to
she studied because of her own interest and rose to the top
Anne became a wonderful woman with an ever-expanding mind,” Yamada explained
she did such outrageous things—she was such a cute and interesting girl—but she grew up to be such a wonderful person
I think that had a lot to do with the fact that she was interested in so many different things and studied so hard.”
Part of what makes Anne so unique as a character is how she goes against expectations
At the time when Anne of Green Gables was written
stories about orphan girls (known as “formula Ann” stories) followed a predictable pattern
A female orphan offers her services to a lonely person
the person comes to love the orphan and keeps her
Rambunctious Anne with her temper and unique way of viewing the world is anything but a humble servant
This difference in characterization is shown even in the spelling of her name
it all has to do with how Anne wants to be viewed as a person
“Anne's not someone to be pitied,” Yamada told me
“She doesn't want to put herself in that kind of position
That's why when Marilla first asks Anne to talk about her past—about what has happened up until then—Ann refuses
She wants to think that it doesn't define her—despite the terrible circumstances she has endured.”
it's a matter of empathy to Yamada: “Even with all she has been through at such a young age
and her husband was a drunk that was hit by a train and died
It's because of her circumstances that it was a matter of course that she wouldn't be able to be kind to me either.'”
'It's so sad that they did this to me.' But Anne with an E thinks
Thomas has her own misfortune—that everyone has their own misfortunes and all sorts of things happen
I think that Anne with an E is the one who truly understands that.”
This empathy and understanding from Anne serves to highlight that we are all nuanced people
We all have our own issues and we all suffer in our own ways.” Yamada continued
“So we all come out of it with these kinds of answers and act in these kinds of ways
It wouldn't be fun if they just got together so easily,” she laughed
While Yamada started her career in voice acting as Anne
her life since has allowed her to empathize with Marilla
and had been playing Marilla on stage for six or seven years—I was doing it until before the COVID-19 pandemic
so I really understand Marilla's feelings.”
When it comes to her favorite supporting character
“I think that having Diana as her dear friend helped Anne a lot
[...] Diana and Anne have completely different personalities
there are times when Anne and Diana grow a bit apart
Anne grew up little by little—it's all thanks to her 'moonlight.'”
But there might be another, more personal, reason for Yamada's love for Diana. "Even now, I'm very close with Gara Takashima (who played Diana) and we can talk about all sorts of things
It's really thanks to Anne that she's still my dear friend.”
we discussed the ending of the Anne of Green Gables story—Anne giving up her chance to go to college in order to stay and care for Marilla at Green Gables
“I would [make the same choice as Anne] I think
Green Gables is precious and so is Marilla—and Matthew
“I think that I couldn't leave that place and leave Marilla alone.”
there are times when I think about [the line] 'Anne's horizons had closed in since the night she had sat there after coming home from Queen's,'” Yamada said
even though choosing that path narrowed her future
she would still be able to find happiness in it
she could find a different happiness—even though it's one on a different path.”
“I think Anne was able to choose her path because she understood that in her heart,” Yamada continued
“Anne doesn't lament the fact that she couldn't go on to higher education
but instead faces the path she chose and can soar again upon it
and the proof of Anne's growth cultivated together.”
That's a wonderful thing—that strength to live
I think that's what Anne is trying to convey through her story.”

Print Designers share their favorite places to shop for rugs in L.A.
with a few surprises.A great rug can bring your whole room together
Here are 15 of the best places to buy one in L.A
A good rug can make all the difference in how your home looks and feels
“We sold a rug to a young pop star who lived with it in a mansion in the Hollywood Hills without furniture,” said Gary Christensen
director of the luxury rug dealer Mehraban on La Cienega Boulevard
“Rugs often carry nostalgic memories of the home people grew up in,” Christensen added
highlighting people’s emotional attachment to their rugs
But rugs aren’t just nostalgia; they can be a real source of solace in the present — and enough to decorate an otherwise bare room
Many showrooms in Los Angeles stock thousands of rugs
from hand-knotted silks and vintage wool Moroccan carpets to antique Persian and Swedish heirlooms
Which means it can be overwhelming to find the perfect rug
Our journalists independently visited every spot recommended in this guide
We do not accept free meals or experiences
Since rugs are often sourced from around the world, many designers and business owners are holding their breath regarding tariffs. Emilee Gonzalez, marketing coordinator for Marc Phillips, and designer Blazek said it was too soon to tell if prices would go up after President Trump backtracked from many of the tariffs he introduced on April 2. “Pricing in the rug market is always influenced by a range of factors, and we do our best to keep our prices as stable as possible,” Gonzalez said.
From Home Goods to His Royal Highness King Charles III’s purveyor, here are our panel’s favorite places to shop for rugs in Los Angeles.

“From the time I was 5, every Christmas I’d get racetrack sets and RC cars,” says Young, wearing a B-Sedan baseball cap. “It’s always been cars in my life.”
A model Toyota Celica. (Juliana Yamada / Los Angeles Times) Though toys lit his spark, it was his uncles’ street-racing days, and the Japanese cars they drove, that ultimately shaped his taste. The RX-3 he’s polishing now, once featured on the TV series “Jay Leno’s Garage,” isn’t just a vintage gem. It’s the same model owned by one of his uncles, and the first one that caught his ear. “I liked it because it sounded racy,” he says.
A sign on the wall sums up the hub’s ethos: “Come for the cars, stay for the vibes.”
But VJMU is about more than just cars. It’s also about inclusivity, mentorship and community building. What sets the club apart is its focus on making car culture accessible to everyone.
Cars don’t need to be in mint condition. VJMU embraces an unapologetically raw and edgy spirit that Young likens to “underground hip-hop.” That ethos is reflected by VJMU handing out awards at its car shows such as “best patina” and “best work in progress.”
From the Venice Boardwalk to Rodeo Drive and Boyle Heights’ Cesar E
these walks allow you to experience L.A.’s streets and sidewalks by foot
what matters more than a pristine restoration is how the car showcases its owner’s unique style
reflected in the club’s motto: “Fresh s— only.” “It’s about individual expression through your build,” he says
“Where’s the spin on it with your personality?”
VJMU’s focus on making a personal statement with one’s car is rapidly turning into a movement with its own momentum
Young just wanted to have some fun with friends
While he was still a professional mixed martial artist
Young — who owns and teaches classes at Fight Academy Pasadena — organized a casual
potluck-style hangout for car-loving pals outside one of his matches
Hoping to create something more intentional yet still personal
he teamed up with car-obsessed friends: forklift mechanic Jaime Cabral
IT professional Marlon Trujillo and Honda sales tech Henry Mendez
A framed photo of VJMU club members hangs on the wall
(Juliana Yamada / Los Angeles Times) The group of native Angelenos bonded over their shared love of pre-1975 Japanese cars
Young explains that they have fewer moving parts than traditional piston engines
yet deliver surprising power for their relatively compact
cars from this era are considered smog-exempt
saving both the cost and hassle of compliance
Alongside Young’s RX-3 was Barbachan’s red ’72 Mazda RX-2
while Trujillo brought a vintage Mazda rotary engine pickup truck to the mix
but his ’73 white Toyota Corolla still fit squarely within the pre-1975 Japanese car wheelhouse
The group gave themselves a name — Vintage Japanese Motor Union — a logo
printing VJMU decals and selling them for $5 each at local car meets and online
“We wanted to see if we could expand our reach in the community
throw events that reflect our style and monetize the brand,” Young says
The grassroots branding helped fuel momentum and broaden their influence
It also showed them their potential as a legitimate car club
VJMU staged its first official car show in 2019 outside a friend’s body shop
that drew 140 vintage Japanese cars and several hundred attendees
The overwhelming turnout made it clear that it was time to establish a permanent home base of their own
That marked the turning point for what has grown into a distinguished car club and brand — with major sponsors like Falken Tires
Sunoco and Hagerty — as well as a marketing and events company curating high-profile gatherings
like SoHo Warehouse’s five-year anniversary party last October
which featured performances by notable hip-hop artists Talib Kweli and Murs
Racing posters and photos are displayed on the walls
(Juliana Yamada / Los Angeles Times) VJMU also boasts almost 24,000 social media followers
An outlier in the Japanese classic car space as a prominent Black influencer
Young acknowledges the importance of that visibility
it’s less about recognition than representation
but I do see it as a necessity for people to know that car culture runs through every neighborhood,” he says
“It just so happens that I grew up in South Central
and some people just didn’t take notice of us in general
Young takes particular pride in VJMU’s identity as a Black- and Latino-owned car club
competing as a team in a sport that’s traditionally been dominated by affluent
At a recent race-meets-car-show at Willow Springs Raceway
Young says it was deeply moving to witness so many Black and Latino kids feeling welcome in a space where they could not only see themselves reflected but begin to imagine their future in a world that hasn’t always made room for them
That inclusive spirit is steering VJMU’s next phase
Young’s developing a school-based internship program that would offer academic credit and paid experience to local youth
granting access to a world they might otherwise have never stepped into
framed by the picturesque Sixth Street Viaduct
Its outdoor area is suited to large-scale car meet-ups and crowds
and its cinematic surroundings match the club’s gritty aesthetic
Tools and racing awards
(Juliana Yamada / Los Angeles Times) The spot also embodies deep Los Angeles pride
“We’re rooted in our L.A.-ness 100%,” Young says
different aesthetics … it’s always been something that came about from L.A.
whether it’s lowriders in Boyle Heights or driving out to the coast with the top down
with the bridge kind of separating the East and West side,” he continues
the clubhouse will house two race simulators available for rent
with sponsored community days covering costs for those who can’t afford the fee
Ask any local to define the neighborhood and they’ll tell you it’s the ‘real Eastside.’
In the meantime, Young is preparing for the clubhouse’s next big event, a Cinco de Mayo street celebration on May 4 with live music, local food vendors and, of course, plenty of vintage Japanese cars.
Looking further ahead, he is hoping to shut down the Sixth Street Viaduct for a full-on VJMU takeover for the clubhouse’s two-year anniversary next year.
Wherever the road beyond that leads, it’s clear that VJMU’s wheels are in motion.

because there was nothing more fantastic last year than Luna going psycho
What do you recall of your initial reaction to finding out about what the writers had in store for you
it was me this entire time!” It was a shock
and it was definitely the talk of the town on set
But I love playing darker characters and I’m really lucky because I basically get to play two different roles on the show
then I’m gonna go full-out!” That was really fun
I was just waiting by my phone for the new scripts to come out
What did you do to prepare to play that totally unhinged version of Luna
and I wanted to bring my own take to an evil character
and they really helped me figure stuff out
I did watch The Dark Knight like a week before the scripts came out
I just love an evil character that’s having fun with it
I like when they’re laughing at moments that aren’t particularly funny; I think that’s even a scarier choice than just being angry and frowning the entire scene
So I brought some tweaks from Heath Ledger’s Joker
I’m not saying that [an impression of him is] what I was doing
but that definitely inspired me to have more fun with it and find the humor in some of the scenes
I think Luna is so psychotic that she found Steffy begging for her life funny
Steffy] is like the best scene partner ever
We did the Charli XCX “Apple” dance that went viral [which Yamada posted to her Instagram Stories]
after playing Luna as such a nice girl prior to the big reveal
that you had a character that off her rocker in you
I was really nervous about those scenes and how it was going to be perceived
I was really surprised at how well it was perceived and how much everyone loved it
So that first year of me playing Luna — playing a sweet girl was also new to me
I feel like I got to bring in aspects of other characters that I’ve had the pleasure of playing in the past and I got to learn from all my experiences and bring it to Luna
the B&B fandom was just going nuts for you on social media
and what did it mean to you that people were so embracing of the work that you were doing
And those episodes were airing like right [around] my birthday
I was in Miami with my best friend and we were driving down to Key West — that was my birthday trip — and as she was driving
I was on Twitter showing her all these funny tweets
I spend so much time with Luna — I spend more time [playing her] than I do with my own family
and I put a lot of time and work into this character
so to see that everyone was loving it as much as I am…
Digest: Then Luna had to hit the road for a little bit and go to jail
What was it like for you when you realized that you weren’t done with Luna yet
that there was going to be much more to her story on B&B
Yamada: I remember I had a conversation with Brad because I was like, “She killed two people. She framed her mom
She made a move on her mom’s boyfriend while she was locked up for her crimes…
the amount of crimes I’ve committed [as Luna] is insane.” I was like
“How am I gonna come back from this” And Brad was like
What is her redemption arc gonna be?” But being in prison was so much fun
“I’m gonna lose every game of ‘Never Have I Ever.’ ” I mean
never have I ever been in fully body shackles [laughs]
But I was really surprised [when Luna got out of jail]
The special effects makeup of me being bruised and bloody was so much fun
and the material I’m getting — I’m just so excited to come to work every day
Digest: What was your approach to playing Luna this time around
Because the storyline doesn’t invite the same level of “she has abandoned all morals” as it did before
I feel like she’s been through a lot — but I don’t totally want to [commit to the idea] that she’s no longer crazy and is in her redemption era
I definitely think there’s a little bit of crazy to her still
“Is she fully manipulating the situation and playing the victim
or is she actually remorseful?” I kind of have fun with it
“I think I’m gonna play this more manipulative,” or
“I think I’m gonna play this more genuine.” I just like keeping the viewers on their toes
Digest: Speaking of which — Luna has no clue that the question of who her father really is has been answered
Do you think she will remain determined to find out who her father is
even though Bill has suggested that she is perhaps better off not knowing
Yamada: I think she is pretty stubborn when she has set her sights on something
I think she is struggling with that deeply
and I don’t think that is something that shes’ going to come to terms with
I’m hoping for more viral dance collabs between you and Jacqui
Are you looking forward to sharing more scenes with her
and Luna perhaps face some of the consequences of her
I’m always excited and down to have scenes with her and I’m also excited to explore what the Finnegan/Nozawa dynamic is now
Cage Match: Holding Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) hostage was just one item on Luna’s long rap sheet last year

The proposed study investigates the characteristics of Stefan blowing and activation energy on MHD Casson Diamond-\(\:\text{C}{\text{o}}_{3}{\text{O}}_{4}-\text{S}\text{i}{\text{O}}_{2}/\)\(\:{\text{N}\text{a}\text{C}}_{6}{\text{H}}_{7}{\text{O}}_{6}\:\)based trihybrid nanofluid over a sheet with LTNECs (local thermal non-equilibrium conditions) and permeable medium
The significance of Marangoni convection as well as heat generation are considered
In order to examine the properties of heat transmission in the absence of local thermal equilibrium conditions
this paper makes use of a simple mathematical model
Local thermal non-equilibrium situations typically result in two discrete and crucial temperature gradients in both the liquid and solid phases
In systems where material qualities and heat transfer efficiency are crucial
the utilization of Xue model and Yamada-Ota model and to assess the thermal conductivity of the nanofluid adds a comparison dimension and enables optimized design
The controlling partial differential equations are reduced to non-linear ordinary differential equations using an appropriate similarity transformation
The Bvp4c technique is used to resolve the resulting equations numerically
Applications in modern thermal management systems
especially those requiring precise heat transfer control (e.g.
The model is especially applicable to processes where chemical reactions and internal heat sources are important
like in catalytic reactors and combustion systems
because it takes into account activation energy and heat generating effects
The findings indicate that when the value of the interphase heat transmission factor increases
the solid phase’s temperature profile and liquid phase heat transfer rate drop
The novelty of current investigation is the significance of Stefan blowing on magnetized Marangoni convective flow of Casson Diamond-\(\:\text{C}{\text{o}}_{3}{\text{O}}_{4}-\text{S}\text{i}{\text{O}}_{2}/\)\(\:{\text{C}}_{6}{\text{H}}_{9}\text{N}\text{A}{\text{O}}_{7}\:\)tri hybrid nanofluid with non-equilibrium local thermal conditions
The characteristics of heat generation and activation energy is also analyzed
the shooting method (bvp4c) is applied to find the solution
differential equations are successfully solved
The shooting approach is a popular method for solving DEs (differential equations) due to its ease of use
The characteristics of numerous dimensionless factors on the solutal
velocity and thermal distributions have been investigated graphically
Analyze how heat generation and activation energy affect the solutal and thermal fields
and solutal fields of the Casson THNF are affected by Marangoni convection
To determine how Stefan blowing of trihybrid nanofluid influence the flow
To ascertain the impact of volume fraction nanoparticles on the Casson trihybrid nanofluid momentum and thermal boundary layer
Investigate how the Xue model and Yamada-Ota model
To determine how LTNEEs impact the thermal boundary layer of solid and liquid phase of Casson trihybrid nanofluid
In a complex three-dimensional flow involving a Casson fluid embedded with a trihybrid nanofluid made up of silicon dioxide (\(\:\text{S}\text{i}{\text{O}}_{2}\))
cobalt oxide (\(\:\text{C}{\text{o}}_{3}{\text{O}}_{4}\))
and diamond nanoparticles scattered in a base fluid of \(\:{\text{C}}_{6}{\text{H}}_{9}\text{N}\text{A}{\text{O}}_{7}\)
the model described examines the effects of LTNE
In systems where material qualities and heat transmission efficiency are crucial
the utilization of Xue and YO (Yamada-Ota) models to assess the thermal conductivity of the NF (nanofluid) adds a comparison dimension and enables optimized design
or chemical composition along a liquid interface can cause surface tension gradients
which in turn drive the fluid flow phenomena known as Marangoni convection
The liquid moves from areas of low surface tension to areas of high surface tension as a result of these gradients
This phenomenon is important in natural systems like tears on a liquid surface
as well as in technologies like microfluidics
where surface tension effects predominate due to the low gravity forces

In sophisticated thermal management systems
the Xue and Yamada-Ota models for local thermal non-equilibrium effects on 3D radiative Casson trihybrid nanofluids are highly useful
These include improving heat transfer efficiency in solar energy collectors
Because of its exceptional thermal conductivity qualities and special Casson rheology
the trihybrid nanofluid is also perfect for industrial processes involving complex fluid dynamics
like heat exchangers and chemical reactors
where exact thermal regulation is essential for performance optimization
The following is a summary of the work’s primary findings:
the Casson fluid factor reduces the velocity profiles\(\:,\) whereas the thermal profile rises in both cases YOM and XM
Thermal profile of Casson fluid is increased by increasing the heat generation parameters
The solutal distribution is enhanced by raising the AE (activation energy) factor
It has also been noticed that enhancing the value of reaction rate parameter \(\:Rc\) cause a decline in the concentration profile
Both velocity profiles for boost and the temperature profile decline with increasing the value of \(\:{\updelta\:}.\)
The thickness of the velocity boundary layers increases and thermal profiles decreases with increasing Stefan blowing parameter
As we rise the value of inter-phase heat transmission factor
the temperature profiles for liquid phase boost and the thermal profile for solid phase decline
As the porosity modified conductivity ratio increases in both models
heat transmission reduces in both the liquid and solid phases
The velocity for both profile decline and thermal profile increases as we upsurge the value of nanoparticle volume fraction
The temperature for both phase and concentration distribution dropped when the Marangoni convection factor was increased
but the Casson trihybrid nanofluid velocity increased for both profiles
the Yamada-Ota model outperforms the Xue thermal conductivity trihybrid nanofluid model

Derrick Yamada did a lot of winning to get himself into the field at the PGT Championship
The San Diego resident and part-time poker player took the first step of that journey by winning the RunGood Poker Series Jamul Main Event in February
That win (his second consecutive RGPS Jamul Main Event victory) qualified Yamada for the $300 Dream Seat Invitational at Thunder Valley Casino in December
Yamada made the short flight to the Sacramento-area poker room and topped a field of 47 RGPS ring winners to secure another victory
The grand prize in that event awarded a seat to the PGT Championship
Yamada found himself among a field of more than 40 of the world’s best tournament players at PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas on Friday
The PGT Championship runs as a two-day freeroll event with a $1,000,000 prize pool
The action started Friday with the top 40 players from the 2024 PokerGo Tour leaderboard in the field
Yamada planned on conducting business as usual at the poker table
He spoke with PokerOrg just prior to the start of play.
I think I would give this situation a whole lot of weight,” Yamada said
I understand what poker is and the different avenues to get to the top.”
I don’t give too much weight to any one tournament.”
Yamada’s poker lifetime includes more than $450,000 in live tournament earnings
He’s a staple of success at San Diego-area poker events
In addition to his status as a two-time defending Main Event champion at the RGPS Jamul series
Yamada also scored a win in the MSPT Sycuan Main Event in May 2023
Other pros in the field on Friday included Viktor Blom
and many other crushers from the high-stakes tournament circuit.
Yamada was out in the early going of Day 1 and the $500K dream was over
and Jim Collopy made Saturday's final table
That collection of players is vying for the $500,000 first-place prize
and the champion will be crowned at the PokerGO Studio on Saturday
planned on catching the first available flight home to San Diego to get back to his family
“I pride myself on everything I’ve learned throughout the years
“It comes down to staying even-keel mentally and looking at the situation as these are my chips
and sticking to that as opposed to making emotional decisions.”

While the defendant was found guilty on 13 of the 18 charges — including second-degree assault and multiple counts related to fleeing and evading police
as well as failing to render aid to an injured person
the decision to acquit on the most serious charges of attempted first- and second-degree murder or even first-degree assault is difficult to accept
This outcome is devastating—not only for Sgt
Kepp but for every member of our department who has stood beside him throughout his recovery and pursuit of justice
we have limited influence over how the judicial process unfolds
we must accept and respect the decisions rendered
and now during his inspiring return to duty
Pat has never lost hope — and neither have we
and we are proud that his tireless efforts led to the passage of the Sgt
which will hold reckless drivers more accountable with stricter penalties and real consequences
I want to thank State’s Attorney John McCarthy and the entire Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office for their unwavering commitment to seeking justice in this case
Although today’s outcome is not precisely what we hoped for
His resilience and dedication to service will continue to inspire this department and our community
who played Anne Shirley in the classic 1979 anime
In the first part of this two-part interview, Yamada talks about the backstage aspects of her time working on Anne of Green Gables—how she got the role of Anne, her experience working with acclaimed Ghibli directors Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki
“It all started over a matter of 2,000 yen,” Yamada began. “Kōhei Miyauchi
who played the grandfather in Heidi of the Alps and was my senior in the theater company that I belonged to at the time said
they're doing auditions for Anne of Green Gables
“At that time, I didn't have any feelings about the audition for Anne—about whether I wanted to play the role of Anne or even be a voice actor..
I had played leading roles in musicals for children in the theater company
but I hadn't been given a proper role with many lines in a normal production.” Yamada continued
I was given the book Anne of Green Gables and was told
'Please read this part on this page.' I read a lot of lines which turned out to be really fun and exciting
my manager and I went to Takano at Shinjuku Station to eat a chocolate parfait
I ate the chocolate parfait with my 2,000 yen
“I really wanted to get the role but I overdid it and things didn't go well. When I went to the callbacks, the sound director, Yasuo Urakami
only heard a few lines from me before he said
'Are you the one who came the other day?' and 'Your performance is completely different
I practiced desperately at home and got so tense
I want to pass the audition,'” Yamada lamented
“So even as I was given notes [from the sound director]
I couldn't perform with that same relaxed and joyful feeling at all like during the first round and I was sent home in about 10 minutes… I had done an hour the first time
Since we recorded for an hour the first time
'This girl's voice is a little strange…'” Yamada told me while giving her best Takahata impression
“As the other finalist for the role had a beautiful voice Takahata said
Hayao Miyazaki [who was doing scene setting and layout for the show in his pre-Ghibli days] apparently said
the cute and beautiful one is better!" But in the end
it seems that I was chosen because Takahata recommended me.'”
Interestingly, there is a bit of an epilogue to that story. “10 years later Anne of Green Gables was made into a movie. I met Takahata for the first time in a long while and the first thing Takahata said to me, scratching his head as usual, was, 'Well, Yamada's voice for Anne wasn't as strange as I thought it would be.' That was the first thing he said to me after such a long time!” Yamada said in mock indignation. “Producer Junzō Nakajima
Right?,' He tried as hard as he could," she laughed
"But Takahata didn't seem to care at all and just said
That wasn't Yamada's only story about Takahata
While she didn't meet him often—as his notes were passed down through sound director Yasuo Urakami—there was one meeting that still sticks out in her mind today
“One day Urakami took me to the production site of the anime because he said
“we should ask Takahata to provide more drawings on the screen during recording—to have something being shown on the recording booth video screen
thanks for coming,'—at that time his hair was like a bird's nest,” she laughed
“When we tried to say something about the illustrations
he would start muttering to himself about the contents of Anne of Green Gables.” Yamada laughed again
completely immersed in the work!' In this situation
'Please add more illustrations [to the recording booth monitor]' That's my most vivid memory of him.”
Over the course of recording for the 50-episode anime, Yamada made friendships with the other female voice actors. “Fumie Kitahara
and Urakami told me to deliver the script to Kitahara's house in Aoyama two or three days before recording every week
she would tell me things about how to act—not like
Yamada had the opposite kind of friendship with her other veteran female costar. “Miyoko Asō
so you need to create more sexiness within yourself.'” Yamada explained
“Asō was kind enough to say all sorts of things to me directly
Kitahara always told me things in a rather gentle way
But when it comes to her time in the recording booth for Anne of Green Gables, one scene stands out above all others: the death of Matthew. “That scene is painful,” Yamada reminisced 46 years after the fact. “I cried even during the actual recording session, so it took quite a while to record. At that time, I really felt like Ryūji Saikachi [Matthew's voice actor] was dying..
“I was crying so hard I couldn't say my lines
For this scene we just need Eiko and the other two..
but to actually say it out loud—and to have Saikachi beside me having just said something like 'I'd rather have you than a dozen boys
Anne,' gave me great happiness but also great sadness—to have Matthew pass away was indescribably sad
fully realized that 'There was someone who really loved me.' It'll make you cry
Stay tuned for part two of our interview with Eiko Yamada
where we dive into her relationship with Anne of Green Gables and the character that jump-started her voice acting career
Soap Opera Digest: How did you (meaning you
not Luna!) find out and react to the twist that Finn is Luna’s father
I also felt deep down in my gut that Tom Starr wasn’t really her father
I was convinced that maybe Jack could be Luna’s biological father
I remember seeing a few fan theories in the past that suggested Finn could be Luna’s dad
so that possibility was always in the back of my mind
it wasn’t until I saw the scripts where Finn was administering the paternity tests that it finally hit me — “Oh
Digest: What do you like and find interesting about the twist
Yamada: I’m so excited to dive into this family tree
has been questioning Luna’s paternity since I first joined the show
so it’s satisfying to finally have some concrete answers
Finn being Luna’s father really spins such a tangled web
creating obstacles in so many characters’ relationships
I love how Luna never fails to stir up chaos — whether she means to or not
The Finnegan/Nozawa bloodline is messy and I’m here for all of it
Digest: Did you and Tanner Novlan (Finn) have a chance to talk about this development behind the scenes
Yamada: Brad [Bell, B&B’s executive producer/head writer] and the rest of the writers at B&B are amazing at keeping us on our toes, so Tanner and I found out about this storyline with the rest of the cast when the scripts came out
We definitely made sure to take the time to break down the scenes and make sense of everything
Not only was this a huge bombshell for Luna and Finn
The best part of being on this show is getting to play such dramatic storylines and bringing them to life in a way that feels true to our characters
Tanner and I spent time discussing how both Finn and Luna would feel in each moment
Digest: Are you looking forward to working more with Tanner as the storyline unfolds
Yamada: I’m very thrilled to be working more with Tanner
Our past scenes have mostly been conversational and casual
so this new storyline has been such an exciting shift in our dynamic
Tanner is genuinely such a great person to work with
and even though our scenes are much more intense and emotional now
he still manages to bring a sense of lightness into the process
We often find ourselves laughing and joking around
even in the midst of some pretty heavy moments
and it’s those little moments that make the work feel like play
It’s been a really fun experience collaborating with him
and I’m looking forward to seeing where this new journey takes us
Digest: Can you describe what a paradigm shift finding out that Finn is her dad is for Luna
Yamada: Thinking someone’s your cousin your whole life
only to find out he’s actually your father
That’s insane news for Luna to wrap her head around
It’s like every single memory she has with Finn from her childhood is a complete lie
I don’t think Luna would even have the words to describe it as just a “paradigm shift” — it’s way bigger than that
It’s like her whole world has been turned upside down
and she now has to try and make sense of everything she thought she knew
Digest: What do you imagine is going through her mind as she reels from the news
Yamada: I think this is such a conflicting
she’s having to realize that her mother has been lying to her her whole life
she’s finally getting the answer she’s been wanting for her entire life
It’s like a mix of relief and pain all at once
And then there’s the weight of Tom and Hollis’s murders— those are definitely still heavy on her mind
Did she really ruin her life — and so many others’ lives — just to come to this truth
Digest: What do you remember about filming the scenes where Luna hears this incredible news from Finn
What did you want to communicate to the audience about how Luna reacts
I remember feeling so cathartic while filming these scenes
The average person usually doesn’t get the chance to tap into emotions like this
I think it’s been tricky for the audience to figure out if Luna is truly sincere and “reformed,” and that’s something I’ve enjoyed playing around with
she’s just a girl who’s been desperately wanting to know who her father is
Hearing the words “I’m your father” from Finn was the absolute last thing Luna expected
There’s a massive sense of shock but an overwhelming feeling of relief in finally knowing
Digest: On the subject of how long Luna has longed to find out her father’s identity
do you think this might be a case of “be careful what you wish for” or do you think having a definitive answer could be a good thing for her
Yamada: I definitely think having a definitive answer is a good thing for Luna
just look at all the terrible things she did because she didn’t know
I’m really curious to see what her next move will be
I’m pretty positive that Steffy won’t allow Luna to be a part of the family
but we all know Luna isn’t one to just give up
do you think it will affect Luna’s view of her mother
to find out that she had intimate relations with Finn
Digest: One of the ramifications of Finn being Luna’s dad is that it means that Steffy is her stepmother
What are your thoughts on the Steffy angle of this reveal
given the messy history between Luna and Steffy
Luna really chose the worst possible person to lock in a cage
Your stepmother is one of the last people you should be putting behind bars
the scenes I shared with Jacqui [MacInnes Wood
Steffy] last year were so much fun to film
and I’m very happy to be a part of Steffy’s orbit — even if it’s not for the best reasons
Steffy is such a badass and definitely not someone to be messed with
I just hope the “Sinn” fans aren’t too upset with me for stirring up trouble in their marriage
Digest: Another ramification is that Sheila is her biological grandmother
Do you hope to have the chance to work more with Kimberlin Brown (Sheila)
Yamada: Kimberlin is the OG baddie of our show
and I’m beyond excited to be a part of her lineage
Some of Luna’s behaviors make so much more sense now — she’s got Sheila’s blood running through her veins
Sheila and Luna haven’t had the chance to share scenes yet
and we’ve both been dying to work together
I’m sure we’ll have some killer scenes together — no pun intended
Digest: By making Luna the granddaughter of Sheila
Brad Bell has given your character yet more important lineage within the B&B canvas
Yamada: I’m so grateful to Brad for so many reasons
Starting out as a sweet Forrester intern falling in love “for the first time,” and then doing a complete 180 last year to become a murderous villainess — this show has fulfilled me so much creatively and helped me grow as an actor
Not every actor gets the chance to play two completely different characters
and I’m truly appreciative of Brad for giving me that opportunity
It also means so much to me that Luna’s family tree is expanding
With Luna being tied to so many iconic characters
it feels like she’s really starting to solidify her place in the roster
From Here To Paternity: Luna is thrown for quite the loop when Finn (Tanner Novlan) broke the news that he is her biological dad
The nuns at the Catholic girls’ school in Nagasaki
Japan that Totsuko Higurashi attends in Naoko Yamada’s feature The Colors Within might well sing
“How do you solve a problem like Totsuko?” She spends a lot of time in chapel reciting the serenity prayer
but she keeps stumbling into behavior the church considers improper — and even sinful
Part of the trouble lies in her ability to see “colors,” a sort of polychrome aura that people radiate
Totsuko relies on those perceptions for guidance
The gentle blue of classmate Kimi Sakunaga causes her to maintain their friendship even after Kimi drops out of school
They start jamming in an abandoned church and form the band White Cat Hall
There are no real villains in The Colors Within — the characters struggle with others’ expectations rather than external foes
Totsuko strives to balance the dictatress of conventional religiosity against the very real understanding the visions of color bring her
Rui’s mother expects him to become a doctor; Kimi feels crushed by her grandmother’s expectations
Friendship and music provide the characters with a much-needed outlet
which opened in Japan in August and will be getting a wide U.S
in a recent interview conducted via email:
Animation Magazine: Can you tell us about the source of the idea for the film
Naoko Yamada: I wanted to create something that would stimulate the imagination of the people watching
making full use of the special qualities of animation
a medium built from multiple elements — movement
I made sound and color the pillars of the project and tried to create a film that would allow the viewer to enjoy the sensory experience
You have described the characters as “children who have yet to realize what their feeling are.” Could you please expand on that thought
This film depicts children who can’t express their worries and secrets
I came to realize that the “villains” in this story existed inside of them
Peering into their inner psyches was quite interesting
and I barely felt any need to prepare external obstacles for the sake of the story
I think it’s quite wonderful to be able to just feel
to feel moved or to feel sad without having to put a name on those feelings
But Totsuko has been hurt by how others reacted to the very intuitive way she sees things and worried about it
Kimi and Rui all bottle up their worries inside themselves and can’t bring themselves to blame others when things don’t go well
Why did you set the story in a Catholic school
Shinto and irreligion are the most common religions in Japan; Christians are said to make up only 1% of the population
only around 10% of the students are believers
I really like the broad-mindedness of Japanese people
where differences in belief are accepted and mutually acknowledged
I wanted to create relationships like that in the film
Nagasaki has a long history with Christianity — the religion was first introduced to Japan there
and I felt the kindness and strong wills of the people
which matched the themes I wanted to depict in The Colors Within
It’s not that I wanted to make a film that focused on religion
but rather that Totsuko’s spiritual support naturally came from those teachings and ways of thinking
The theremin is an arcane instrument — what drew you to it
expressive hand movements used in theremin performances would work well in animation
who lives her life sensing invisible colors
perhaps her burden would get a bit lighter
Maybe she feels he’s complicit in matters of the invisible
Rui has always had an interest in electronic music
would allow him to keep his music a secret from his mother
How did you and composer Kensuke Ushio collaborate on the songs in the film
Colors Within marked my fourth time working with Kensuke Ushio
so we knew what working to make a project better looked like
The biggest challenge was creating the songs Totsuko and the band play in the film
I wanted viewers to like the three members of White Cat Hall
The songs needed to sound like something the characters could have believably written and played
with Ushio composing the music and me writing the lyrics
We took ideas from our own pasts as students who loved music
but looking back on it now it was all quite fun
did you have a Japanese or an international audience in mind
I hope that film can be something borderless and free
something that transcends nationality and race
I hoped to realize that goal by creating a film that captures a universal feeling
The Colors Within was produced by Science Saru (Japan)
following an Oscar-qualifying run in Los Angeles in December

Shochiku announced that one of the major Japanese actor Takuya Kimura will appear in Japanese auteur Yoji Yamada‘s latest film “Tokyo Taxi” to be released on November 21
“Tokyo Taxi” will be the centerpiece film of the company’s 130th anniversary
and expectations from the company are said to be high
“Tokyo Taxi” is based on the French film “Driving Madeleine“(French titled,”Une Belle Course“) released in 2023
and the story takes place in Tokyo and is said to be a human story that begins with sending a madam off to an elderly care facility for her final days of life
A madam will be played by Chieko Baisho, who meets a cab driver, played by Kimura, and experiences various miracles. This is the first time in 19 years that Kimura teamed up again with director Yamada since “Love and Honor” in 2006
grossing over 4.1 billion yen at the box office
It has also been 21 years since Ms. Baisho and Kimura co-starred in the 2004 animated film “Howl’s Moving Castle.” Kimura plays a cab driver for the first time in his career
and is on the verge of having his license suspended
In addition to play the cab driver for the the first time
there was something “unusual” about this film for Kimura
Kimura is known for his leading roles in both TV dramas and movies
and he also plays a top chef in the movie “Grand Maison Paris,” which was released in December 2024
This is the first time in 16 years that Kimura has played a role other than the lead in a film since the 2009 French film “I Come With the Rain
There have been almost no examples in films released in Japan
On the official website of “TOKYO TAXI,” Kimura’s name is listed after Baisho
who has been at the forefront of leading roles for a long time
was once pointed out by a “close friend” in his career as an actor
who co-starred in the 1993 drama “Asunaro Hakusho” (Fuji Television)
spoke about Kimura when he appeared on the variety show “Poka Poka” (Fuji Television) in August 2024
“Why don’t you do something like Tome (the actor whose name appears last in the performance)
I don’t think he should play the leading role
I think it would be fun to play the second lead
because it would change your point of view
It seems that Tsutsui wanted to tell Kimura that it would be beneficial for him to play supporting roles as well
It can be said that Tsutsui’s advice has already become a reality
who first gained attention in “Asunaro Hakusho” (co-starring Tsutsui)
became a social phenomenon with the 1996 drama “Long Vacation” (Fuji Television)
and since then he has been used more and more often in leading roles
In the 2022 drama “Mirai e no 10 Count” (TV Asahi)
he played a former amateur boxer who had lost the will to live
and in the 2024 drama “Believe: Kimi ni Kakeru Hashi” (TV Asahi)
he played a major general contractor who was convicted of a crime by his company and escaped from prison
in which he plays a former amateur boxer who has lost the will to live
Both of these roles were out of the “Kimitaku image” held by the public
but his performance was highly praised by many
In “TOKYO TAXI,” Kimura plays a supporting role as a cab driver
so we may be able to discover a new side of him
Will the “Kimura-Taku myth” enter a new chapter

Lisa Yamada’s Luna Nozawa has been chillin’ at Bill Spencer’s luxurious pad since the start of the year
quite the cushy turn of events for the murderess
you killed two people and you get to be on house arrest in a big old mansion!’ I want to switch lives with Luna at this point [laughs]
“Anything can happen on the show and that’s kind of like the beauty of it.”
What Yamada most relishes about Luna’s new living arrangement is that she gets to spend so much time working opposite Bill’s portrayer
“Don is the most amazing scene partner to work with and there’s honestly kind of a ‘life imitating art’ [kind of situation]
Don has been such a mentor to me and the way that he’s guiding Luna through her troubles and helping her navigate what’s next for her has honestly been parallel to my relationship with Don
He gives me so much great advice and our relationship is amazing behind the scenes
I couldn’t have asked for a better scene partner
So it’s really nice to be able to pull from our actual
Bill and Luna’s relationship has had a lot of iterations over the course of Yamada’s time on the show
to having romantic feelings for him and planting a kiss on him while he was dating her mother
“I definitely think that he is like a paternal figure to her,” Yamada offers
‘Why did Luna make a move on Bill?’ I really thought about it
and I think that she’s never had a strong male presence in her life
I think it was hard for her to navigate [the difference between] familial feelings and romantic feelings
the first man that had been there for her in a way that a father should
but I think she is actually embarrassed about making a move on Bill
Mi casa es su casa: Bill (Don Diamont) has welcomed Luna into his home
Lisa Yamada explained that Luna is a master manipulator who may get along swimmingly with her evil grandmother
The Bold and the Beautiful’s Lisa Yamada is excited to find out what’s next for Luna. She began as an innocuous intern with stars in her eyes
she came floating back when Bill rescued her from being beaten daily and transferred her incarceration to his cushy mansion
Luna’s been yelling to anyone who can hear that she’s learned the error of her ways
Yamada chimed in about what Luna may have up her sleeve
It’s still unclear whether Luna is truly remorseful for murdering Tom (Clint Howard) and Hollis (Hollis W. Chambers), as well as trapping Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) in a building slated for demolition. Yamada spoke with Soaps recently
but she killed two people… let’s mix it up a bit!’” she gleefully shared
Bill (Don Diamont) feels he can relate to her because they both had crappy upbringings
Luna’s excuse for her actions is that she didn’t have a father figure growing up
Finn (Tanner Novlan) has been revealed to be her bio-daddy
that pesky stumbling block of her trying to kill Steffy keeps getting in the way as Yamada hilariously noted that upon the reveal
and I locked his wife in a cage…What do we do about that?”
READ THIS: Find out what’s coming up on B&B.
Although Steffy wants to send her back to prison
I have faith that she’ll somehow find a way around Steffy
and maybe that means befriending her grandmother!” Her grandmother
is none other than the even more murderous Sheila (Kimberlin Brown)
who seems to have successfully changed her ways
if anyone in the world can truly empathize with Luna
