Prices at restaurants and hotels are rising in Yokohama's Minato Mirai 21 district partly due to the influx of tourist from overseas a port city southwest of Tokyo once known for its relatively low rents and retail prices despite its proximity to the capital Big businesses and foreign-owned hotels have moved into Minato Mirai 21 (MM21) The streets are crowded with overseas tourists pushing up prices at restaurants and hotels Stiff competition in today’s off-road tire industry means that every manufacturer needs to continuously improve, or get left — quite literally — in the dust. The new Yokohama Geolandar G018 A/T4 tire is no different, aiming to improve on the long-tenured Geolandar G015 The recipe is simple: more rugged looks and more off-road capability without sacrificing road manners or durability I tested the new A/T4 last summer on a Ford Bronco Sasquatch and then replaced a set of the existing G015 on my 1997 Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution I am impressed with the forward strides of Yokohama’s latest and greatest I have some hesitations about pricing and proficiency versus other options in the all-terrain segment the brand is looking to keep up in the ever-escalating all-terrain tire arms race It is more rugged both in looks and in capability than the model it replaces But as we learn with some time with this new option and it rides with noticeably more refined compliance and traction But the improvements come at the cost of more road noise my tires do show some slight signs of wear The Geolandar G018 A/T4 replaces the G015 which was definitely outgunned versus the competition in almost every way I lived with a set of the outgoing tires for about 5,000 miles pushing hard to explore the limits of my JDM homologation special as much as the tires I traded up to the A/T4 after being just moderately impressed by how the G015 rode The old tires were quiet, but more similar to a true LT tire than a typical all-terrain. The rectangular profile, without much shoulder grip and thin spacing of tread blocks, looked more like a Marine’s high and tight haircut. I especially compared them against the Toyo Open Country A/T III tires on my mildly built 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the G015s definitely played second fiddle I sold the Cayenne in late 2023 Whether the old Geolandars would last that long looked like a serious question but then Yokohama invited me out for first impressions of the A/T4 at a launch event held in Texas last summer I pushed the new tires through scraggly rocks and rutted wagon trails — plus a surprising amount of water fording and some mud Yoko reps aired our LT315/70R17 tires down to 20 psi, but the trip ended up teaching me more about the Bronco than the rubber. I had only driven a Bronco Raptor previously and it’s hard to make judgments while off-roading an entirely new 4×4 The A/T4 tires got the job done well enough that when Yokohama offered me a set for long-term testing I definitely wanted to move on from the G015s but availability from other tire manufacturers came into play Most companies don’t prioritize tires for 16-inch wheels like the Pajero Evolutions the PajEvo itself is also something of an unusual testbed with a short wheelbase and independent rear suspension but also moderately powerful — it might have been the quickest SUV in the world in 1997 but it’s such a good all-rounder that I also drive it daily in Los Angeles when I don’t have press loaners the suspension is so good that I can legitimately keep up with most sports cars in the canyons I originally connected with Yokohama, hoping to learn more about that rally heritage. That was after I had met some engineers from Japan at a Nitro Rallycross event, and asked about the original Dakar Rally races I had seen a few historical pics of PajEvos in Africa wearing Yokohama tires but the engineers explained that the factory teams would have run BFG/Michelin rubber Old pics with Yokos would have therefore been privateer efforts it seemed appropriate to mount Geolandars on my PajEvo once I imported it because most of the homologation cars sold new for the Japanese domestic market (JDM) ride on Geolandar HTs So I happily took a set of G015s in the LT265/75R16 size skinny aesthetic that looks so good on old SUVs I was excited to swap out for the G018 A/T4 for a few reasons Yokohama’s press materials advertise multiple sidewall plies and a thick center tread with wide shoulder blocks My time in Texas had proven quickly that the new tires definitely took a more aggressive tack than the older ones I immediately noticed a different personality with more of a rounded sidewall and a bolder look overall to suit the PajEvo’s cartoonish character I gave the old G015s to a friend with a Tacoma and told him to keep track of his mileage and wear for me As soon as I pulled out onto the highway from the tire shop I could sense Yokohama’s hard work on the A/T4 we’d only ridden off-road or around a ranch the new tire’s compliance showed immediately but the 4,300-pound SUV’s modest weight means I don’t need to stick with serious pressures I then accelerated up to freeway speeds and noticed more tire hum immediately That’s usually a tradeoff with a more aggressive design and I wondered whether I should pump the A/T4 tires up a few psi to compensate the Toyos on my Cayenne rode smoother and more comfortably getting solid fuel economy despite the big twin-turbo V8 so I decided to stick with the same psi as my older tires in the name of science Los Angeles traffic can be brutal on tires But only a few weeks after mounting the new Yokos I then joined the Rad Rally before Radwood which ran from the San Fernando Valley up the Angeles Crest Highway to Newcomb’s Ranch Surrounded mostly by 1980s and ’90s sports cars including a few Ferraris and transaxle Porsches At a rip-roaring pace through the mountains wondering whether it could continue to do so given the obvious limitations of sheer physics but they got the job done — so much so that at the top of the hill former Porsche factory racer Patrick Long even remarked how fast the PajEvo looked (the truck Then my co-driver got us lost coming back down and we wound up on a service road that traces a train track in the desert I shifted into all-wheel drive and decided to have some fun we rollicked over the graded gravel at well past 120 kph (75 mph) on my speedometer (which is also underestimated because of the larger tires) The PajEvo and the A/T4s rode steady enough to give me the confidence to hit that speed and the tires would probably have done even better aired down to more like 28 psi but that might have been accentuated by the PajEvo’s ridiculous aluminum fender flares that was the fastest I’ve taken the car or these tires off-road to date The Yokos held up well without any hint of a flat or loss of grip Driving through light dustings on mountain roads and a few miles of dirt in the high desert The 3PMS (Three Peak Mountain Snowflake) rating is definitely a silly system and I wouldn’t hesitate to go powder hunting with these tires I took the PajEvo out for some slow-speed rock crawling Climbing and descending in full-on four-low with the center differential locked it’s not truly made for rock crawling with that independent rear suspension The tires still performed fairly well in scenarios sort of similar to the Texas launch event I needed to spin them up to build some heat and climb over a few obstacles I also needed to left-foot brake and power through more than usual to keep the Torsen diffs engaged but there’s really not much muddin’ to do here in SoCal I can’t comment too much more about how these tires perform in the real slop after 3,000 miles of seriously hard-charging over just about any type of terrain Keeping my matching spare on the rear tailgate helps me compare The fronts mostly look a little more rounded on the edges of the shoulders This is likely from hard cornering on the Angeles Crest and some normal steering through traffic The G018s do weigh very slightly less than the G015s so long-term wear may become a question mark I’ll report back if I wind up sticking with these tires for the long haul I do plan to rotate fronts and rears soon because the rears look pretty much brand-new with crisp sipes and edges still intact the A/T4 comes with a 55,000- or 65,000-mile warranty my friend with the G015s has covered another 10,000 miles of slightly less radical driving and says he can barely notice any increase in wear the new A/T4 brings Yokohama into the same all-terrain conversation as Toyo and Cooper — and a step above Goodyear and Firestone And of course, pricing and rebates make just as much of a difference as anything else in today’s increasingly competitive and balanced off-road tire market. workplace automation technology developer ServiceNow unveiled the latest version of its Now platform, touting the availability of a strong agentic AI focus with new AI agents to go with new bundles of a number of its offerings The Yokohama release of the ServiceNow Now platform brings together some technologies that have been in limited release to make them available to the company’s entire customer and partner base senior director of AI agent products for the Santa Clara “We’ve had it under limited availability up to this point with our partner community,” Joslin told CRN “We’ve done a lot of work with getting partners and some key customers up to speed and we really see this as building upon our success in the industry with enterprises and their workflows We see agentic AI being able to supercharge workflows and take this to the next level and be the connective layer across the enterprise for all workflows.” [Related: ServiceNow CEO Bill McDermott: ‘We’re Putting AI To Work For People’] Agentic AI is AI that can autonomously make decisions without continual human interaction natural language processing and automation to make those decisions Enterprise customers vary in their readiness to take advantage of agentic AI, but some are already experimenting with the technology, said Jason Wojahn, CEO of Thirdera, which was acquired by Cognizant in late 2023 “We are actually building agentic AI bots for ServiceNow currently for their internal use,” Wojahn told CRN “And we have some customers that are beginning to use agentic AI across the platform in more of a pilot kind of capacity And then we have some customers on the other end of the spectrum where we’re spending more time talking about helping them get AI-fluent and AI-ready and understand what agentic AI would mean to them.” Everybody knows what AI is but are more familiar with learning models and algorithms and things of that nature far more important is the way AI is generating its intelligence your underlying data model and your underlying business value and workflows where it can bring or add value and provide governance,” he said “We want to make it more and more relevant told analysts and reporters in a prelaunch conference that ServiceNow is focused on a future where AI agents work autonomously with and for people to unlock outcomes and transform business Many AI agents are currently stuck in the same isolated systems that have created siloed ways of working for decades and add complexity instead of reducing it “You have heard us say ‘AI is only as good as the platform it runs on,’ and the ServiceNow platform is the connective layer across every corner of the enterprise “And we are serving as the AI agent control tower for enterprises bringing order to chaos as the one central location to analyze And that’s why our AI agents don’t just automate They act with full context and drive real outcomes in ways no one else can and for a future with AI agents acting as a new digital workforce.” ServiceNow is building multi-agent systems that control workflows and independently solve tasks with proper governance backed in with three things that set ServiceNow apart from the rest of the industry in regard to AI ServiceNow AI agents are built directly into the ServiceNow platform with access to billions of records and millions of workflows faster version of what they’re already using without any disruptions they get AI that connects the entire business with orchestration capabilities that connect every function through AI-powered workflows “The beauty of our approach is that we meet customers wherever they are in the AI journey and accelerate their path forward,” he said ServiceNow is using its own AI agents today to transform its business processes create better user experiences and drive value customer service AI agents are significantly improving case deflection by three times while IT support AI agents have improved case deflection rates by 80 percent AI agents have eliminated the need for commission request tickets “Bottom line: ServiceNow doesn’t just talk about AI,” he said The Yokohama release of the ServiceNow Now platform includes the company’s AI Agent Orchestrator and AI Agent Studio the company’s group vice president of AI experiences and innovation “The AI Agent Orchestrator ensures that AI doesn’t just work in silos,” Zilbershot said “We want to make sure that our customers can introduce agentic AI into the enterprise [and] make sure they can solve even the most complex problem That’s where the AI Agent Orchestrator comes into play it’s able to develop the plan for all these different AI agents to do the work correctly Our agentic workflow really positions ServiceNow as the AI agent control tower for the enterprise giving customers the ability to run these AI agents confidently across the enterprise.” integrate and customize AI agents that are always connected always optimizing and always properly governed ServiceNow is also introducing hundreds of additional AI agents to the enterprise out-of-the-box ServiceNow AI agents leveraging our expertise in the market across different use cases of the enterprise,” she said “We will have SecOps AI agents that are designed to streamline the security incident life cycle allowing SecOps teams to focus on high-priority threats rather than time-consuming repetitive tasks.” ServiceNow is also adding accessibility features to help innovation work for everyone “We’re introducing voice input that enables hands-free interaction to summarize incidents generate knowledge articles and more just by speaking,” she said “We’re also introducing the ServiceNow text suggest so customers can customize their reading experience on the ServiceNow platform and across Chrome and edge browsers for better adaptability and readability.” The Yokohama release of the ServiceNow Now platform aims to redefine how AI agents work supercharge workflows and integrate real-time data increase business connectivity and elevate the customer experience in two major ways ServiceNow’s executive vice president and chief experience officer The first is service observability via a single system Lokey said during the prelaunch conference “Companies juggle dozens of monitoring and observability tools,” she said “We unify them into a single source of truth AI-driven insights are pinpointing root causes faster and they’re resolving issues before they escalate.” The second is ServiceNow’s self-service portals “Self-service portals in ServiceNow Now sales and order management help companies drive more business and increase revenue,” she said “Built into the ServiceNow CRM and industry workflows these portals feature new capabilities that allow customers to place orders all in one place and at any time and without the need for a sales or support agent at every step in the process.” ServiceNow is looking to encourage agentic AI adoption across the board This includes making sure that AI agents are part of customers’ Pro Plus and Enterprise Plus licensing models The company is also looking at bundled Now Assist SKUs where AI agents and the agentic AI technology will be included as well as anybody who buys Now Assist and the Pro Plus or Enterprise Plus will get the AI agents as part of the package,” he said “There is a limit to the amount of credits available as part of Now Assist in terms of how many calls you make to the AI agents So it’s a subscription model with some consumption kind of mindset built in And if you run out of those credits or consumption of those units you can buy an additional SKU for extra usage as well.” ServiceNow has been working on preparing partners over the last couple of months “We’ve done some enablement sessions specifically for partners and also worked deeply to enable a couple of key initial channel partners to be ready for this as well,” she said “The new release will be available to ServiceNow’s entire partner community we’ve done launches and enablement sessions for the entire community but we partnered closely with a couple of key channel partners just to make sure we have the right information going out for them.” Key opportunities for channel partners include being able to build and test AI agents as well as take advantage of new capabilities “We’re going to have enhanced insights on analytics via our dashboards to be able to visualize the usage “I can see partners really digging in to help customers understand the value they’re getting.” has announced its new 116R regional all-position steer tire The new tire is made at Yokohama’s plant in Mississippi and is available in three sizes: 11R22.5 295/75R22.5 and 11R24.5 with a seven-year unlimited retread casing warranty “The 116R has fleets covered,” says Tom Clauer senior manager of commercial product planning at Yokohama.  “It’s engineered to bring long tread life and durability to regional fleet operations and superior fuel efficiency for super regional activity.”  benefits of the 116R include durable construction from solid shoulder ribs mulit-siped rib edges to fight river wear and deep siping for long-lasting traction high center ribs and an advanced compound produced rolling resistance Yokohama TWS says it will continue to invest in United States manufacturing through its Mitas ag tire plant in Charles City “At a time when companies are considering relocating production back to the United States,” Yokohama TWS and its Mitas brand continue to "invest in local manufacturing as a deliberate choice to strengthen its connection to the American agricultural sector,” say Yokohama TWS officials.  “This U.S.-based approach ensures greater responsiveness to market needs high-quality offering tailored to the demands of American farmers and OEMs.”  The Charles City ag tire plant “plays a vital role in Mitas’ commitment to quality operational excellence Mitas offers a range of benefits to farmers and distributors,” including quick response to “the needs of American farmers and OEM partners,” reduced exposure to tariff actions a leaner supply chain thanks to “lower transportation costs” and reduced lead times and more also “integrates factory-efficient technologies and sustainable manufacturing processes” and employs “advanced manufacturing techniques” to deliver products that are designed “to meet the rigorous demands of American farming.”  while other manufacturers were increasingly looking to offshore their production Mitas saw the strategic importance of building a strong manufacturing base in the U.S.,” says Tom Rodgers commercial director agriculture for North America “Our Charles City facility has allowed us to better serve the American farmer with high-quality products and faster delivery times and in today’s environment we are able to minimize the impact of tariffs This is a clear reflection of our dedication to the U.S achieved record highs in all profit categories in 2024 Yokohama’s tire sales increased 12.1% during the year Tires accounted for 89.6% of Yokohama’s consolidated sales revenue for the year Business profit for the entire company increased 35.6% to $853.2 million “The strong year-on-year growth in Group business profit reflects successful efforts to increase sales volume realize more optimal product prices and expand sales of consumer tires with sizes of 18-inches or larger,” Yokohama said in its report Yokohama said the business sentiment in Japan was “positive overall” in 2024 with the “strong output of production-related machinery and other manufacturing equipment on the back of firm demand for semiconductors as well as the strong sales of materials-related products such as petroleum and coal products amid a decline in the prices of key resources.” Yet consumer spending “was rather weak” in part to lower automotive production and “the high prices of food and services.” Revenue in both original equipment and replacement tires was higher in 2024 than in 2023 and Yokohama’s off-highway tire (OHT) business unit “overcame difficult market conditions including a large reduction in new production by agricultural machinery makers.” The year-over-year growth in sales was driven by the replacement markets “mainly in Europe The OHT business includes Yokohama’s legacy operations the Alliance Tire Group business it acquired in 2016 and in 2024 it included a full-year contribution from Y-TWS the Trelleborg Wheel Systems business which was acquired in May 2023 Yokohama is moving ahead with the assumption that Japan’s economy “will remain on a moderate recovery track.” At the same time the picture outside of Japan is less certain “The outlook for overseas business conditions remains clouded by the potential impact from countries’ trade policies and other measures.” Yokohama is calling for an 11% increase in global sales for 2025 The tiremaker is forecasting business profit of $876.2 million As part of its three-year management plan for fiscal years 2024-2026 Yokohama has outlined some strategies for its tire businesses low-price emerging tiremakers expand their production capacity and increase their market share during YX2026 (the name of the three-year management plan) Yokohama Rubber will accelerate its efforts to maximize the sales ratio of its high-value-added tires as it aims to increase the profitability of its consumer tire business the consumer tire business has initiated the ‘one-year plant’ challenge which aims to bring new plants online within one year and achieve the low cost and high efficiency needed to compete with the cost competitiveness of emerging tiremakers and achieve ‘hockey stick growth.’ “As part of its effort to maximize the sales ratio of high-value-added tires and enhance brand value the consumer tire business will promote its tires as original equipment (OE) for premium cars and continue its participation in motorsports events around the world It also will continue its ‘product and regional strategies’ focused on strengthening the development supply and sales of tires that respond to specific trends in each regional market.” Yokohama says the global market is expected to grow 6% annually “considerably higher than the projected 2% annual growth for the consumer tire market.” Agriculture and forestry machinery is expected to account for about 40% of this global market “The Yokohama Rubber Group has the top share in this market segment and plans to strengthen its market position by implementing a multi-brand strategy that will leverage its production sales and technology strengths in all three tiers of this market segment.” The company says it holds the second-largest share of the global market for industrial and port-use machinery Yokohama plans to expand its global operation of Interfit a tire maintenance service offered by “highly specialized staff” into new countries Yokohama also sees its newest acquisition of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.’s OTR business as a boost to its existing “rather small” market share in construction and mining machinery tires “This acquisition expands the Group’s sales channels and production capacity for construction and mining machinery tires,” but it also will allow for the combination of Goodyear’s “advanced production technologies and other technological capabilities” to be merged with Yokohama’s existing off-highway resources to support additional growth Yokohama notes this is “another area where emerging tiremakers are expanding production capacity and seek to increase their supply in markets around the world this effort is being met by anti-dumping and countervailing duties in Europe and the United States Yokohama Rubber will aim for profitable growth by strengthening sales in countries and regions where these measures are supporting the maintenance of appropriate pricing.” After more than a dozen years working as a newspaper reporter in Kansas Joy Kopcha joined Modern Tire Dealer as senior editor in 2014 and school board meetings than she cares to remember says the sale of its OTR tire business to Yokohama Rubber Co The all-cash deal is valued at $905 million according to a recent statement from Goodyear.  “The sale of the OTR business is a significant milestone in Goodyear’s transformation,” says Goodyear CEO and President Mark Stewart “Our portfolio is now more streamlined driving further efficiencies and enhancing our focus on our core industry-leading products and services.”   Ohio-based company “intends to use transaction proceeds to reduce leverage and fund initiatives in connection with the Goodyear Forward transformation plan.”  This past November, Yokohama noted that  its acquisition of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.’s OTR tire business was “proceeding smoothly.”   Yokohama's acquisition of Goodyear’s OTR tire business unit was first announced in July 2024.  Japan-based firm says its acquisition of Goodyear's OTR division will contribute to the ongoing expansion of its off-highway tire business.  Yokohama expects the global OTR tire market to grow around 6% per year — “considerably higher than the projected 2% annual growth for the consumer tire market,” according to Yokohama officials.  The company believes it is already “well-positioned” in the ag and forestry tire categories which it estimates accounts for about 40% of the total off-highway tire market The purchase of Goodyear’s OTR tire division which manufactures tires up to 63 inches in diameter is designed to complement Yokohama’s product range in non-agricultural applications Yokohama acquires all shares of Nippon Giant Tire Co which operates Goodyear’s OTR tire plant in Japan in addition to “certain OTR assets at the other plants and facilities around the world.”    This includes Goodyear’s OTR tire retreading plant in Canada.  Mike Manges is Modern operating profit “The strong year-on-year growth in group business profit reflects successful efforts to increase sales volume raise product prices and improve product mix,” supplemented by a “full contribution” from the firm’s Yokohama TWS business Yokohama also “achieved record sales revenue and business profit” during the third quarter of 2024.  Yokohama’s overall replacement tire sales volume increased by 106% while the company’s total original equipment sales volume grew by 112% Replacement channel gains were driven by strong sales in Europe and Asia and “steady sales to major customers in North America OE increases were driven by  growth in new car sales in Japan and expanded vehicle sales in China.  Yokohama’s off-highway business achieved a 110% increase in the replacement channel and a 72% increase in OE volume including increased replacement sales in the ag tire category “despite a difficult market environment.”  OE ag tire sales declined “more than expected” on a year-over-year basis.  The company reported “strong” OTR tire sales especially in the construction tire category.  Yokohama says that “optimization” of its manufacturing footprint “in the world will be considered on a constant basis to ensure sustainable growth in a changing competitive environment.”  The company also announced the closure of its plant in Hadera, Israel, which had been owned for many years by Alliance Tire Group prior to Yokohama’s ownership. (In 2021, Alliance Tire Americas Inc. became Yokohama Off-Highway Tires America Inc.)  the “competitiveness” of the Hadera plant “has been lost.”  Earlier this summer, Yokohama announced it will acquire Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.’s OTR tire business unit in a deal that is expected to close in early-2025.  Yokohama TWS has expanded its Trelleborg TM800 ProgressiveTraction range with new sizes for mid- to high-horsepower tractors With the latest additions of 600/65R28 and 710/70R38 the range now includes six sizes for specialized farmers and contractors.  the full TM800 ProgressiveTraction range now includes 540/65R28 ensuring an optimal fit for a wide variety of tractor models within the 150-250 HP segment maximizing overall vehicle performance.  Engineered with ProgressiveTraction technology the tire’s distinctive double-edge lug design enhances traction “With an extended range now available the six sizes of the TM800 ProgressiveTraction series cater to the most commonly used medium-power tractors on the market,” says Alessio Bucci improved self-cleaning and increased comfort making them the perfect fit for challenging agricultural environments.”  Since the discovery of the untouched tomb of Tutankhamen in Egypt in 1922 mystery has surrounded the revelation of the mummy of young pharaoh within have been enchanting history lovers for over a century Dive into history and mystery at the upcoming “Mystery of Tutankhamen,” an immersive exhibit at Yokohama’s Minatomirai Tutankhamen Museum (PLOT48) The extensive exhibit uses 3-D CG projection technologies sound and graphics to transport visitors 3,000 years into the past to experience Tutankhamen’s rule over the ancient Egypt kingdom The museum will also have what it describes as “super replicas” of Tutankhamen items (one of only three sets existing in the world) and a perfectly reenacted tomb of Tutankhamen Don’t miss the 3D computer graphics of King Tut’s mask and throne scanned directly from real artifacts on display in the Cairo-Egypt Museum Under the direction of world-famous Japanese Archeologist Yukinori Kawae the exhibit also showcases some recent archeological discoveries providing more information to King Tut’s story Don’t miss this immersive experience into the life and mystery of King Tutankhamen Address: Tutankhamen Museum (Yokohama Minatomirai PLOT 48) 4-3-1 Minatomirai Admission: College students or older 2,600 yen; middle and high schoolers 2,000 yen; elementary schoolers 1,500 yen Sign up for our weekly newsletter of articles from Japan Yokohama F.Marinos again put their faith in an Australian coach ahead of an Asian Champions League quarter-final with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr Rose-tinted glasses can be forgiven in light of Tottenham Hotspur’s current woes. For all the talk about second-season trophies, there should be more about how Postecoglou – in his first J.League campaign with Yokohama in 2018, was saved from relegation only by goal difference. Yokohama were, of course, the second-highest scorers in the league, with just one goal fewer than the champions, in what proved to be the platform for the title-winning season that came next. I began searching for hotels in Yokohama and was surprised to learn there was only 1 Hilton option: Hilton Yokohama since the property was incredibly close to Yokohama Station (or so I thought) it seemed to be an excellent place to spend a night cash rates for the March 2025 night I was looking to book were around ¥23,500 (around $160) Although I wanted a base room with a king-size bed hoping to be upgraded to a room with a king-size bed upon check-in The room for this stay came out to ¥23,885 ($160) as it earns 14x points spent at hotels in the Hilton portfolio It’s important to use the right rewards card to maximize your earnings. Consider booking your Hilton stay with one of our top recommended credit cards for Hilton loyalists The Hilton Yokohama is in the Minatomirai area of Nishi Ward in Yokohama The property is less than a 10-minute walk from Shin-Takashima train station and less than 14 minutes from Yokohama Station From Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) Terminal 2, you can take the Airport Limousine Bus to Yokohama Eki Kaisatsuguchi mae Station The Hilton Yokohama is a 10-minute walk from the station The journey takes about 50 minutes and costs ¥650 (around $4.50) You can also catch the Airport Limousine Bus from Tokyo’s other international airport that journey takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes the closest stop to the Hilton Yokohama requires a 15-minute walk Although the property seems relatively close to both Yokohama and Shin-Takashima stations which requires walking through several buildings to reach the stations My wife and I arrived via train after a wonderful few days in Tokyo it took us nearly 18 minutes to walk from Yokohama Station to the property The journey required using several escalators and elevators to reach the hotel as it is one of the tallest buildings in Yokohama A friendly bellman welcomed us to the property and I mentioned that I was there to check in The bellman politely took our bags and guided us past an intricate staircase and art piece to the elevators that would take us to the hotel lobby on the third floor I proceeded straight to the check-in counters to the left I immediately noticed the black and gold theme across the lobby which created a luxurious and elegant feel A front desk representative greeted me and thanked me for my Hilton Honors loyalty She mentioned I could head to the Executive Lounge on the fifth floor to complete the check-in process there instead and a hotel representative guided us to the elevators to the Executive Lounge we were greeted by a different representative who welcomed us to the property and thanked us for our loyalty He collected our bags and said that they would be sent directly to our room upon check-in I mentioned to the agent that I would like to request a room with a king bed if one were available he noted a king bed would not be available for at least another 2 hours he mentioned that several rooms were available including rooms with 2 twin beds placed relatively close together Since my wife and I preferred to get a room as early as possible The representative said that the Hilton Yokohama does not offer complimentary suite upgrades The agent upgraded us to a Twin Premium High Floor room on the 24th floor He explained that I could have breakfast at either the Parade restaurant or in the Hilton Executive Lounge but he suggested going to the restaurant because it had a wider selection of food I thanked him and was ready to head to our room As we got off the elevator on the 24th floor we walked down a nicely lit hallway to our room I was greeted by a narrow foyer with a hallway leading to the main living area Our bags were neatly placed in the storage compartment and closet directly to the left The closet’s furthest left compartment contained the room’s safe Between the 2 closets was a small counter space that featured a coffee machine We then walked into the main living area of the room The room’s 2 twin-size beds were against the right wall and closer together than I expected The beds each featured 2 comfortable pillows and thick bedding The massive and plush headboard had integrated light controls and reading lamps The room’s wall-mounted flat-screen television was directly across from the bed Below the television was a small storage nook The room’s lounging area was directly to the left of the bed It featured 2 armchairs and a small table in between them The hotel provided us with a welcome card and a small box of wafer cookies Although it was an extremely thoughtful gesture The room’s workstation was to the left of the lounging area and next to the television The room’s telephone was discreetly placed on the side of the desk The provided chair was quite simple and uncomfortable It would have been nice if the hotel had a more ergonomic seat There was a sizable floor-to-ceiling mirror next to the workstation The room’s window offered lovely views of Yokohama Station You could also see Yokohama Pier and Yokohama Central Wholesale Market I could not tell the difference between a Twin Deluxe room and this upgraded room Although the 2 beds were relatively close together which was not ideal as it did not replace the comfort of a single king bed The bathroom entrance was near the room entrance It featured pocket doors and was divided into 3 sections The main section of the bathroom had a vanity Beneath the vanity were towels and a hair dryer The hotel provided complimentary toiletries It was a standard Japanese toilet with a Toto bidet system The shower had its own door on the far right of the bathroom It featured a walk-in shower with a handheld retractable showerhead and a rainfall showerhead The hotel also provided wall-mounted reusable bottles of Crabtree shower amenities the Hilton Yokohama had many guest amenities The property boasted a fully equipped fitness center that was open 24 hours a day and offered a variety of cardio equipment there was also an elliptical and a stationary bike for those wanting variety Opposite the cardio machines was a rack that contained equipment The gym had a good selection of strength equipment including an FTS Glide machine and free weights Hotel Shop Oasis was past the lobby before reaching the guest floor elevators and sold snacks and souvenirs There was a great selection of chocolate and baked goods Self-parking was available for ¥3,000 ($20) per day The Hilton Yokohama also offers 3 scheduled daily departures to Haneda Airport Tickets cost ¥1,000 ($6.70) for adults and ¥500 ($3.35) for children Hilton Yokohama had several on-site restaurants ranging from the Hilton Executive Lounge to high-end Japanese and seafood restaurants The lounge was on the fifth floor and could be reached from the elevators in the lobby Hilton Diamond members and those booked in Executive rooms get complimentary access to the lounge Guests with access can have breakfast here daily between 7 and 9:30 a.m The lounge featured a large seating area with tables for 2 running the length of the walls and tables for 4 in the center guests could have snacks and drinks at the lounge and individually wrapped gummy bear packets Guests could select from distilled or sparkling water Additional food and alcoholic drinks were served during the lounge’s cocktail hour daily between 5 and 7 p.m This included a wide selection of dried fruits and nuts as a starter the cocktail hour’s defining food was the fish and chips with condiments including ketchup and tartar sauce The fish and chips were amazing and offered a refreshing break from all the Japanese food we had been eating Parade is the hotel’s main all-day dining restaurant on the third floor buffet-style restaurant with 4 separate meal services: breakfast Hilton Diamond members could have their complimentary breakfast at Parade I was pleased to see the variety of food offered for the breakfast buffet Next was a hot food station with steamed vegetables The bakery section had a wide selection of breads and pastries A baked bread section had croissants and quiche Lorraine There was also a good selection of beverages After looking through the endless food choices I grabbed a full breakfast plate and headed to my seat The breakfast buffet at Parade offered a great selection of food The staff did an excellent job of restocking the food as it was being consumed which specializes in seafood and roast beef is on the second floor and accessible via the stairs near the hotel lobby It is open daily between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m Ocean Milano boasted a comprehensive menu featuring both a course set and an à la carte menu It also showcased a visually appealing bar with various bottles of liquor displayed on a glass shelf suspended from the ceiling giving the illusion that they were floating The bar and lounge featured a menu with cocktails and a selection of appetizers and sandwiches Although I didn’t interact with the hotel staff often I was impressed by the exceptional level of service provided It was evident that the staff took pride in providing excellent Japanese hospitality to hotel guests The staff in the Executive Lounge was fantastic They consistently checked in on my wife and me to make sure we had anything we needed one of the Executive Lounge members even recommended great photography spots around Yokohama The Hilton Yokohama is a solid property near Yokohama Station Although it is conveniently near the city’s biggest transportation hub Many of Yokohama’s biggest tourist attractions were quite a walk away Although I have Hilton Honors Diamond elite status I was surprised that the hotel did not provide complimentary suite upgrades The food in the Executive Lounge and breakfast were also enjoyable There are many more cost-effective hotels in better locations across Yokohama
