Wes Anderson wanted to create an oasis somewhere in Europe to make his 1950s-era Cannes Competition title
olives and melons are now growing back in the agricultural flatlands that were cleared in the summer of 2021 for the shoot for Wes Anderson’s Competition title Asteroid City
The area between the small Spanish towns of Chinchon and Colmenar de Oreja
was transformed into the fictitious city in the heart of the American West circa 1955
period cars and colourful building facades
“We had very specific specifications,” says producer Jeremy Dawson
“We needed good weather and big blue skies because we were going to shoot mainly outdoors
a clear horizon and a set close to where cast and crew could stay
We also wanted to shoot somewhere with a tax credit.”
The production looked at other places in Europe
“It is a great place to shoot and the right scale
not too big that it takes you a long time to access a location from the airports,” Dawson says

It will be distributed next month in the US by Focus Features and internationally by Universal Pictures International
The international crew included regular Anderson heads of departments
production designer Adam Stockhausen and cinematographer Robert D Yeoman
Negotiations to secure the land to build the city set started in autumn 2020
it was many and they belonged to different people

CEO of Spanish service company Meñakoz Films was the key liaison with the local community (the company was recommended by Canonero from previous work together on Jacques Audiard’s The Sisters Brothers)
“To get the 60 hectares we needed we had to deal with 140 landowners
farmers that do not necessarily know about the film industry,” says De Lecea
“We rented the land for two years because they could not sow next year’s crop while we were filming
analysing the soil to choose the right type of red earth to cover the surface with
We also had to remove the landmarks of the different properties.”
The production hired a topologist to map out the area and used GPS to identify the boundaries of each parcel of land once filming had wrapped
They also worked closely with the Spanish authorities and local film commissions throughout the process
“It was during Covid and getting the visas for everybody to come meant a lot of work,” says Dawson
adding that the level of paperwork and red tape for Spain was on a par with France and Germany
“We were a small crew in the middle of a plain,” he says
We used the motel cabins built for the occasion and they were air-conditioned
Everybody was living in the set from the moment they were on set
“It was great to hang out in ‘Asteroid City’
they would come and hang out even on the days they were not working
just because he wanted to see what was going on
“We picked almonds on the way to the set on bicycles,” Dawson continues
It was Covid so we kept our bubble at the hotel
some pan con tomate and possibly too much jamon
‘Ish’ and ‘Learning To Breathe Under Water’ will also feature
Principal photography scheduled for later this year

NEW YORK - A general view of an Old Navy store in Levittown
2024Parade aims to feature only the best products and services
Whenever we want to add new pieces to our wardrobes, we want to make sure that we're choosing wisely. Sometimes we shop for a special occasion, but our best purchases are on staple items that we want to wear on repeat
The latest style that we're eyeing are these adorable pants from Old Navy
which are quickly gaining positive traction with reviewers
They say that these "stylish" pants are "fabulous," and have become one of their most-worn pieces in their closets.
but that's exactly what makes them so chic
They're a pull-on style with a high-waist cut
and have tapered pant legs that get narrower toward the ankle
They also have a drawstring in the elastic waistband that you can adjust to further chinch in the waist
What shoppers adore most about these pants is the comfortable material that they're made from
It's described as "soft and stretchy," and shoppers even note that they "feel like lounge pants" — even though they look far more sophisticated
That's thanks to the pleated detail on the front of each pant leg
which gives them more of a trouser look than a typical pair of knit joggers
which are over seven times as expensive.
If you're looking for comfy pants that you can dress up or down, this is the pair that you need to flock to
They're the definition of "fabulous," according to shoppers
and some have even snatched up multiples in different colors
Reviewers say that you shouldn't walk
but "run" to get your hands on them
Prices are accurate and items in stock at time of publishing

Ever wondered how Cinch launched and how it operates
we explain how the business started and what it does
James Batchelor
One of the many shockwaves to happen to the motor trade in 2020 was the rise of the online used car dealers
consumers were barraged with adverts from new companies with names seemingly created from the highest-value Scrabble tiles
While the rise and fall of Cazoo, has been well documented, one of the other newcomers was Cinch, backed by one of the biggest names in the business – Constellation Automotive Group
It originally launched in 2019 with glitzy adverts and
the Covid-19 lockdowns supercharged its business
we take a closer look at the secretive company’s rise
Cinch’s marketing strapline is ‘cars without the faff’ and its website goes further
buy and own your perfect car by removing the faff
Cinch is a used car dealer that sells cars to customers on the internet
It promises customers can buy online with ‘complete confidence’
backing this up with pledges that all cars come with at least a six-month MOT with no advisories
a 90-day free warranty and three days’ free driveaway insurance
It also adds that if a customer changes their mind after purchasing a car
although this is standard practice and one that all businesses adhere to in the UK
It’s part of the Constellation Automotive Group (CAG) powerhouse, and Cinch is just one of its brands. Others include auction firm BCA, WeBuyAnyCar and the much-respected car dealer group Marshall Motor Group
CAG operates many businesses and subsidiaries
Marshall and Cinch relationship is savvy as all businesses consequently have access to a large number of used cars
Cinch originally launched as a classified website in 2019 and partnered with dealers and used car supermarkets
It cost £2.5m to develop and was an Auto Trader rival in many respects
It allowed buyers to find their perfect used car from a trusted car dealer
and only listed cars that were less than seven years old and had covered 70,000 miles or less from a car dealer or car supermarket that had signed up to the Cinch platform
BCA Marketplace (which was later rebranded Constellation Automotive Group) said the website was launched in direct response to consumer research which
found that 26 per cent of car buyers didn’t feel confident buying a second-hand car
we spoke to Jason Cranswick – who has since left the firm – about how it wanted to work with car dealers
You can watch that original interview below:
the business changed direction from being a classified platform to a company that sold used cars itself
Using the BCA and WeBuyCar divisions of the business
Cinch was immediately able to offer thousands of used cars and took the fight to traditional car dealers with its online
‘faff-free’ approach to selling cars
It’s perfectly simple – customers visit the Cinch website and choose their used car
there were 20 images and internal and external 360-degree images
The car’s options and service history were detailed
and there’s also a part-exchange quoting tool
as they can sell their car with WeBuyAnyCar via the Cinch website
Cinch offers free home delivery in as little as 72 hours
but like its rival Cazoo it offers collection too
these collection points aren’t company-branded ex-showrooms like Cazoo’s
rather cars can be collected from WeBuyAnyCar points in car parks
There are more than 100 collection points across the UK
Monthly payments or a ‘pay in full’ option is offered with each car offered on Cinch’s platform
Each car listing also features a finance calculator so customers can create their own finance deal and check their finance eligibility
Customers can also be upsold a ‘CinchCare’ plan that comprises a lifetime warranty
Cinch was one of three online used car dealers that came to the fore in 2020
which was launched in 2020 by Big Motoring World’s Peter Waddell and industry veteran John Bailey
The pair ploughed £50m into Carzam when establishing it
but the business went into voluntary receivership on June 1
You can watch our review of Carzam and how it worked in the video below
Both have had meteoric rises thanks to multi-million-pound advertising campaigns
Cazoo blew millions on acquiring businesses right across the motor trade to shore up its business model
At the time of writing, Cazoo had sold off many of the firms it has acquired since 2020, and is consulting with staff on site closures and job redundancies
Latest accounts (at the time of writing) filed with Companies House for the year ended April 3, 2022 show Cinch Cars Ltd recorded a £149.1m pre-tax loss
The pre-tax loss was a significant 578 per cent change from the £22m loss the firm made the year before
Revenue stood at £815.6m while cost of sales were an £810.1m loss
Cinch has had its fair share of media attention since it launched
we list the major Cinch headlines from the Car Dealer Magazine website
Car Dealer Live – the future of the car dealer – exclusive conference features talks from leading car dealers, Google and Auto Trader among much more. Find out the full event details and book tickets.
James – or Batch as he’s known – started at Car Dealer in 2010
He worked for Auto Express as editor-at-large from 2014 and was the face of Carbuyer’s YouTube reviews
he went freelance and now writes for a number of national titles and contributes regularly to Car Dealer
In October 2021 he became Car Dealer's associate editor
Price reductions on selected cars, from £250 - £1000 off

Two years of work restored the battery on the headland at the Catioroc
Ben Chapple went to have a look as the work was finished in October 2008
Mont Chinchon Battery is also known as Druids Altar Battery because it sits next to Le Trepied dolmen
which as part of the Catioroc headland has a long association with witches and witchcraft
The battery was dismantled by the German occupying forces during the Second World War to make way for more modern defences
The construction of a cutting for a railway line also damaged the rear of the battery and the magazine
After the 1940s the battery fell into disrepair
In 2006 work began to restore the battery close to how it would have appeared originally
the Historic Sites Curator at Guernsey Museum
explained about the history of the site: "The battery would have been built in response to the threat from France in the late 18th early 19th Century
It was one of about sixty built to protect the island's coastline and prevent any enemy landings
"You can see right over to Lihou island and over to Fort Richmond and that was the idea of the battery here - it would have guarded Perelle bay and this part of the west coast."
As part of the work the museum have rearmed the battery
Originally they would have been twenty pound cannon but we've actually replaced them with 32 pounder cannon
slight larger and from the right date," added Mrs Glencross
"The work started back in 2006 and the site certainly looked very different to how it looks today."
an expert in conservation work from the UK
has regularly joined staff from the Guernsey museum over the two year period to advise and help with the stone and brickwork
Mrs Glencross was very pleased with the result: "fantastic job

HomeGuidesCar financeHow does car finance workHow does car finance work?Let us explain everything there is to know about financing a car
and how to find the best car finance deals for your needs
Financing a car is a way to cover the cost of a vehicle without paying the full cash price in one go
You’ll be able to pay for the vehicle across an agreed-upon payment plan
depending on the type of car finance you choose
You might also choose to pay for your car with a credit card or lease the vehicle instead of buying
You’ll likely find different types of car financing beneficial depending on your needs and budget
It’s important that you understand the terms of your car finance agreement, and make sure you choose the right type of finance for your needs
you’ll spend a specific length of time paying off the loan
With PCP and HP finance
you’ll own the car once you’ve finished paying
but you’ll own it from the beginning if you pay with a credit card or personal loan
Car finance with cinch
PCP works by spreading the depreciation amount of the vehicle across monthly payments
based on how much your car will be worth at the end of your contract
This is known as Residual Value (RV) or Guaranteed Minimum Future Value (GMFV)
If you decide to keep the car when your contract comes to an end, you’ll pay an optional final payment that will cover the rest of the balance and make you the legal owner of the car
Until you've paid all the monthly payments and the final balloon payment
This means you can hand it back at the end of your contract and choose a new car if you fancy it
The final balloon payment will be pre-agreed before you start your PCP car finance deal
so you won’t be hit with any unexpected costs
I've been refused car finance – what can I do?
Monthly payment amounts might be lower than other types of finance
as you’re not covering the full cost of the car
You’ll avoid paying the full price of the car straightaway and can choose a payment plan that suits your budget
You can hand back your car at the end of your contract without paying the balloon payment
meaning you won’t need to sell or part-exchange your current car before getting a new one
You’re not the legal owner of the car until you’ve paid the monthly payments and the final balloon payment
so you can’t modify or sell the vehicle without the lender’s permission
you'll usually be charged excess mileage fees
If you damage the car beyond normal fair wear and tear
you’ll usually be charged for the repairs
You’ll be making payments that include interest
HP is a type of car finance that allows you to spread the cost of your car across monthly payments
but you won’t have a final balloon payment at the end of your contract
You’ll pay a deposit at the start of your HP finance agreement
and then cover the rest of the costs across your monthly payments
HP car finance is a straightforward finance option where you’ll simply be paying the cost of the car plus interest
Once you’ve paid a deposit and have decided on the length of your finance agreement
you’ll begin paying your car finance until you reach the end of your finance term
there will usually be a small ‘option to purchase’ fee to take ownership of the car
You’ll be made aware of this before your HP contract starts
HP is a good choice if you know you’ll want to keep your car and become the legal owner
and don’t need the option of handing your car back when you finish paying the balance
You’ll be the legal owner of the car as soon as you finish your car finance payments
Some lenders still offer HP car finance to applicants with poor credit history as the finance is secured against the car
HP finance usually has no mileage restrictions or excess mileage charges
You don’t need to worry about damage charges unless you choose to terminate early
as you won’t be handing the car back at the end
You’ve committed to purchasing an HP finance car and won’t have the option of a final balloon payment
You’ll have to terminate early to hand back the car
Your monthly finance payments might be higher than PCP as you’re covering the full cost of the car
You’ll still need permission to sell or modify the car
as you won’t be the legal owner until you’ve paid the full balance
You’ll need to pay a deposit at the start of your contract
A personal loan is another way of financing a car but is slightly different from PCP or HP finance
If you want to finance your car using a personal loan
you’ll need to apply to your bank or other lender
They’ll then let you know if you’ve been approved
and the money will be sent to your account
You can then use this money to cover the cost of your perfect car
meaning you’ll be the legal owner as soon as you pay
You'll be able to sell the vehicle at any time as well as make modifications
You’ll usually apply for a personal loan from your bank
and the money will be deposited directly into your account so you can purchase your car
You’ll then repay the loan across your monthly payments
your loan will not be secured against your car
This means that your vehicle will not be taken as collateral if you stop making your finance payments
What happens if I miss my car finance payments?
You’ll own the car straightaway so can make modifications and sell it before paying off your loan
There’s no need to consider excess mileage or damage charges
You may end up paying less overall if you can find a deal with low interest rates
There’s no final balloon payment or deposit to consider
There’s no option to hand the car back at the end of your contract, so you’ll have to part-exchange or arrange a sale when you want to change your car
You might have to wait a while for the funds to come through
You might not be eligible for the advertised interest rates even with a good credit score
Car finance is a way to break the large upfront costs of buying a vehicle into manageable chunks and spread it over a longer period
If you know you can manage the payments and can commit to keeping on top of them
car finance is a great way to enjoy a new vehicle
There are also benefits when it comes to picking the type of finance deal – you can choose the arrangement that best suits your needs
Is it easy to get car finance?
If you know that you might struggle to cover the regular payments on your contract
a finance arrangement is unlikely to be the best option
you could be at risk of losing your car and damaging your credit score
You’ll also need to be certain you’ve picked the right finance type for your needs
as some contracts will include excess mileage charges or other terms you need to be aware of
Can I take a payment holiday from car finance?
Getting car finance might be different depending on the type of finance you choose
you can use our car finance calculator to get a quote for your finance deal
This will help calculate the rest of your monthly payments
you can apply online by supplying details like your address history
lenders will review it to check if it’s affordable for you
our lenders will usually get back to you within 24 hours
If you’ve been approved for finance
you’ll receive your car finance offer and can look forward to getting on the road
You’ll then start to repay your car finance each month on the date laid out in your contract
The process of applying for a personal loan is very similar to applying for car finance
except you’ll likely be applying through a bank
rather than a specialist car finance lender
There are loads of options for personal loans
so make sure you do your research to see what suits your circumstances
Shop around for the best interest rates until you find a deal that suits your needs
like address history and affordability factors
so the lender can decide if you fit their eligibility criteria
the funds will be deposited into your account
The length of time this takes will depend on the lender
you can go ahead and purchase your new car
you’ll then start repaying your loan on a monthly basis
This will be on a regular date specified in your contract
Getting the best car finance deal will largely depend on your own circumstances
as deals are often tailored specifically to the person applying
if you have a good credit score and positive credit history
you’ll likely be offered better interest rates
This means that the total amount you pay will be cheaper overall
Having poor credit history will usually mean higher interest rates
Shopping around for the best APR rates is a good way of saving some money
This means that the interest on top of your monthly car payments will be lower
You can also get a good car finance deal by looking for deposit contribution schemes that will grant you money towards your contribution
The dealer will offer a deposit towards your car to make the overall payments more affordable
Choosing a longer contract can make your monthly payments lower
but this will likely mean higher interest rates and cost more overall
You can also offer a larger deposit to minimise your borrowing and your repayments as a result
One of the best ways to get a better car finance deal is to ensure you have a good credit history
You build credit history over time by paying off debts and keeping on top of payments
You’re more likely to be accepted for better APR rates on your car finance deal if you have a good credit score
paying your car finance on time is a great way to improve your credit score
Missing car finance payments can have the opposite effect and will cause your credit score to drop
You might also find that your credit score drops initially after applying for car finance
but this shouldn’t be permanent if you keep on top of payments
having too many credit checks on your credit history can also have a negative impact
Lenders will carry out hard and soft credit checks when you apply for finance – hard will show up on your report and be noticeable to other lenders
Too many hard credit checks can put lenders off
so be careful with how many times you apply
Will I get accepted for car finance?
You are usually able to pay off your HP or PCP car finance early if you want to, or you can choose to voluntarily terminate your contract
you’ll have the option of voluntary termination if you’ve paid more than 50% of your finance agreement
you can hand back the car and pay for nothing more
you’ll need to contact your car finance provider for the settlement fee
you’ll be the legal owner of your car and will not need to pay anything else
If you want to pay the outstanding finance on your car and settle early
you’ll need to pay the current settlement fee on your account
so make sure you have the most up-to-date figure
You might want to settle car finance early if you don’t need the car anymore and want to sell it or part-exchange
or think it’ll be cheaper to pay early and avoid accumulating interest fees
it might be worth checking with your lender how much is left to pay
It could be more beneficial to pay off the rest of the balance and keep the vehicle than it would be to return the car
Whether or not you can sell a car that’s on finance will depend on the type of finance you have
you won’t be the legal owner of your car until you’ve paid the full balance of your finance agreement
This can be through your normal monthly payments
If you have a car that’s purchased with a personal loan
you can sell the car before you’ve paid the outstanding balance
This is because you’re the legal owner of the vehicle
You cannot sell a car with outstanding finance as you don’t own the vehicle and it’s not your property to sell
It’s important to settle the full balance of your HP or PCP car finance before you sell
Buying a used car on finance
What's the best way to finance a new car?
HomeGuidesCar financeHow to return a car on financeHow to return a car on finance – handing back a finance carIf you no longer want your finance car and want to give it back
your options will depend on how far into your contract you are
and you might decide you’d like to return your finance car sooner than planned
you always have a 14-day cooling-off period during which you can withdraw from your contract before it even begins
If you’re further along in your finance agreement
you’ll need to have paid or be willing to pay 50% of your total amount payable to end your agreement and return your car
contract your finance provider - they may be able to help
Can you return a car from cinch?
The total amount payable on your contract will depend on the type of finance you have. Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) deals are based on the depreciation value of your car through the whole contract
with a final ‘balloon payment’ at the end of your contract if you wish to keep the car
If you’re choosing to end your contract early with a voluntary termination
you’ll have to pay 50% of the total amount payable on your contract – the exact amount in pounds and pence will be specified in your contract
Once you’ve paid half of your total amount payable
you'll be able to return your finance car
If you’re towards the end of your contract
you might have already covered half of your payments and not have any extra to pay
You’ll need to let your finance company know – you can usually let it know via email or on its website – you’d like to end your contract
With a Hire Purchase (HP) car finance deal
you’ll be paying the full value of the car across your monthly payments
To return your finance car before your HP contract ends
you can usually hand the car back and carry on the monthly payments up to the 50% point
If you’re around halfway through your HP finance contract
you might find that you’ve already paid 50% or are close to doing so
so you might not have a huge difference to pay to terminate your contract early
Like with PCP car finance, you’ll need to notify your car finance provider that you’d like to voluntarily terminate
and it’ll be able to tell you how much you owe
You should be able to hand the car back before the 50% has been paid and maintain the payments up to the 50% mark
there might be extra charges for damage or early termination fees
You can give your car back to the finance company
but it'll depend on your situation as to what fees you might have to pay
If you’re wanting to hand your car back within the first 14 days
you’ll usually be able to return it easily
there’s a good chance you’ll have to pay some of the difference to ensure you’ve paid half of the total amount payable
It's best to talk with your finance company to find out what can be done in your personal situation
You can end your car finance early if you’ve covered half of what you owe on your car
You’ll need to speak to your lender about your specific situation and talk through your options
contact your finance provider and let them know – it will talk you through your options
What happens if I don't pay my car finance?
What is voluntary termination on car finance?
What happens if I write off my car and it's on finance?

James Baggott
Online used car disruptor Cinch has come under fire on BBC consumer advice programme Rip Off Britain
Angela Rippon and Gloria Hunniford – the online used car dealer was blasted for selling a paramedic two cars with problems
which aired yesterday and is available to watch now on the BBC iPlayer
Hunniford said: ‘Buying a second hand car used to be looking through all the ads
traipsing through showrooms and being subjected to that very slick patter of a used car salesman
thanks to the meteoric rise of companies that have moved the whole process online
because the biggest names in the industry say your peace of mind is top of their priority list
Branding Cinch a ‘plucky young upstart’, Hunniford said the used car dealership – owned by Constellation Automotive Group – is trying to give the car industry a ‘makeover’
She said Cinch wants to ‘rid the used car market of its less than glowing reputation’ with ‘no flashy forecourts or shiny salespeople’
Paramedic Lee explains he bought an £18,000 2018 VW Golf model that had an issue with its battery
Recovery services came out to the car to find the battery had been swapped for an aging model from another car and spotted it had been repaired after a crash
Lee said he bought from Cinch because it offered a 225-point quality check and was ‘hugely disappointed’ with the issues
He told the BBC: ‘While the recovery person was here he noticed that the car had had bodywork repairs done to it as the paint did not match up
I found it unsettling as I didn’t know the car’s history.’
Cinch took the car back and he paid a further £4,000 to upgrade to another car – the make and model of which are not revealed in the programme
This had warning lights on the dash when it arrived
so he checked the 225-point paperwork and found that it said there were no warning lights present
but also that it had a tow bar and soft top – neither of which it had
These mistakes made Lee question whether the checks were made
‘This car should never have left the check centre,’ he said
but they returned seven months later and this time the car got stuck in first gear
‘I felt like I had been had over with a car not fit for purpose,’ he told the show
but when he got back in touch and told them the gearbox repairs would cost £2,500 Cinch refused to pay saying the car was now out of its 90-day warranty
The car was sat in his local garage for a month
but when the BBC stepped in Cinch offered to pay for the repairs and handed over a goodwill gesture
The used car dealer told the BBC that Lee’s case ‘did not meet its usually high standards’ and admitted it took ‘longer to resolve than it would have liked’
Cinch pointed out that Lee’s car had been through all the checks and said the gearbox fault appeared five months and 6,000 miles after he bought it
Cinch told the BBC the fault is likely to have occurred ‘had it been bought online or in a physical dealership’
A second customer of another online used car retailer – which was not named in the show – experienced issues with three cars they bought online and have since vowed never to buy a used car online
‘I’d rather go to a main dealership where I can deal with a salesperson person to person and I know what I’m buying,’ said the woman who had experienced issues
Cinch told the BBC its customers can ‘rely on its 14 day money back guarantee and its 90-day warranty’ and explained it was one of the fastest growing brands in the country
The complaints about Cinch come just over six months after rivals Cazoo faced bad publicity on BBC’s Watchdog
That show also slammed the 300-point checks made before cars were delivered
You can watch the latest BBC segment in episode 16, series 14, of Rip Off Britain here

Settle your car finance early - how does it work
Positive equity and ending car finance early
To end Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) or Hire Purchase (HP) finance agreements early
you’ll need to get in touch with your lender and ask for a settlement fee
If you’re planning on selling your finance car
you need to pay this settlement fee before you can go through with the sale
This is because you don’t officially own the car until you’re all paid up
Once your finance company has given you the settlement amount
you’ll need to pay this within a certain timeframe for the figure to be valid
can settle your car finance for you so you can part exchange
Any monthly payments you make between getting your settlement figure and paying it will make a difference to how much you need to pay
so make sure to cancel your direct debit if you need to
Take a look at the early settlement section in your agreement to double-check any associated costs
The first step to settling car finance early on a cinch car is to reach out to your lender for a settlement letter - then we can take you through what happens next
If you want to pay off your Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) agreement early and keep your car, contact your lender and ask for a settlement figure, which will include the final balloon payment
you’ll be the legal owner of the car and can choose to keep it or sell it
If you want to return your car under voluntary termination
you need to have paid 50% of the contract or should speak to your lender about reaching that amount
which will be specified in the terms of your agreement
the finance company will take back the car
It’s important to note that you won’t get a refund for the difference if you’ve already passed the 50% mark
You can end Hire Purchase (HP) early and keep your car if you pay the settlement fee – get in touch with your lender to find the exact figure
You’ll then be the legal owner of the car and can sell it if you don’t want to keep it
If you want to return the car early to the finance company under ‘voluntary termination’
you need to have paid 50% of the contract or speak to your lender about reaching that amount
If you’ve already paid more than half the car’s cost
You’ll find the exact figure you’re due to pay in your contract agreement
You need to let the finance company know in writing if you plan to return your car
If you want to settle your car finance early because you’ve got a new model in mind
you get to end your current finance deal and can still get a new car
Car retailers can often settle your car finance deal for you
and let you know if you’re in positive or negative equity
Positive equity can be put towards the deposit on your next car
but you might need to make up the difference if you’re in negative equity
If you want to settle car finance and part exchange with cinch, you’ll need to contact your lender for a settlement figure and then carry out a part exchange valuation on our site
You can then browse our range of cars to see what suits your budget
considering whether you’re in positive or negative equity
You can learn more about part exchanging a financed car in our guide
When you’re in positive equity on your car finance
it means the value of your car is higher than the amount you owe on finance
Car finance providers calculate how much they estimate a car will be worth at the end of your finance agreement
As they typically plan for the worst case where maximum value is lost
This can be a good thing because you’ll be able to use your positive equity towards the cost of your next car
you can settle your car finance early and use your positive equity towards the deposit for your next model
If you request a settlement figure from your car finance provider
there's a chance you could be in negative equity
This means that the value of your car is less than the settlement figure
as the car has depreciated faster than you're making repayments across your finance term
you won't get any money back to put towards the deposit of your next finance car
You might also need to make up that difference from your own pocket to settle the finance
so it’s worth chatting with the car retailer or your finance provider to get your options
If you want to end your car finance early and part exchange for a new model with cinch
you can pay the negative equity at the checkout
Looking for a new car? Find out why mileage matters when buying a car
It can be a quick turnaround to settle your car finance if you want it to be
After asking for the settlement figure from your car finance company
it’ll get back to you and let you know what you’ll need to pay
Settlement figures are usually valid for 14 days from the date you request them and will change if you make any more payments on your car in the meantime or wait too long to pay them
If you choose to settle your finance early
you'll be skipping out on the interest you’d have to pay if you stuck to your finance agreement
This doesn’t mean it will automatically be cheaper
as you may need to pay extra fees for early termination and admin
and the PCP balloon payment may be included in the settlement amount
so it’s best to look into the arrangement you made with your lender

Chinchon is a small town located less than 50 km southeast of Madrid
Its proximity makes it an easy day trip from Madrid
One of the town’s most interesting features is its plaza mayor (pictured below)
It’s circular instead of square and surrounded by three-story houses with green wooden balconies
The plaza dates back to the Middle Ages and has been used to host royal celebrations
Around the plaza are many outdoor restaurants and bars where you can enjoy Castilian cuisine and a glass of Anis de Chinchon – an anise-based spirit named after the town that’s been producing it for over three centuries. Aside from anis, Chinchon is also known for its local wines, bread
Other notable attractions include the old clock tower
the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción
and a few hikes leading up to miradores (lookout points) offering sweeping views of the town

Toledo is an ancient city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site overlooking the Tagus River in Castilla-La Mancha
It can be reached in about half an hour by high-speed train
making it one of the easiest and most popular Madrid day trips
Toledo has a long and storied history that dates back over two millennia
It was a Roman municipium before becoming the capital of the Visigothic Kingdom
It was under Moorish rule for 374 years before being recaptured by the Christians in the Reconquista
it served as Spain’s imperial capital under Charles V
Toledo is a fascinating one-of-a-kind city that’s often referred to as the “City of the Three Cultures”
Take a walk around Toledo and you can see the role each of these religions had in the city’s history
Check out our guide on visiting Toledo from Madrid by train to help you plan your trip
It’s a relatively small city with a lot to see
some of the most noteworthy attractions being Toledo Cathedral
It’s easy to visit Toledo on your own but you may want to consider going on a guided tour (Option 1 | Option 2)
This city has so much history that I think it’s best experienced with a guide
How to Get There From Madrid: The fastest way to get to Toledo from Madrid is by high-speed AVE train
It departs from Atocha station and will get you to Toledo station in about 35 minutes
it’s about a 10-15 minute walk to the medieval city.Approximate Travel Time: About 45 mins
It’s about 90 km (56 miles) northwest of Madrid and you can get there in about half an hour by high-speed train
Segovia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its ancient Roman aqueduct
Made up of 166 arches stretching for over 17 km (10.5 miles)
this massive structure transported water from La Acebeda to the Alcazar
a medieval fortress rumored to have inspired Disney’s Cinderella castle
The Catedral de Segovia – a massive Gothic cathedral located in Segovia’s Plaza Mayor – rounds out Segovia’s big three
then don’t miss the cochinillo asado which is a Segovian specialty of roast suckling pig
These tours combine Segovia with other destinations recommended in this guide
How to Get There From Madrid: The fastest way to Segovia from Madrid is by high-speed AVE train

The Royal Site of San Lorenzo de El Escorial
commonly known as the Monastery of El Escorial
is the historic residence of the King of Spain and the Spanish royal family
It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s been called the most important architectural monument of the Spanish Renaissance
El Escorial was at once a monastery and a Spanish royal palace
It was a home for both the royal and religious powers of Spain
symbolically united under one massive roof
it continues to function as a royal palace
How to Get There From Madrid: Take the C3 regional line from Madrid to El Escorial station
it’s about a 10-minute walk to the Monastery of El Escorial.Approximate Travel Time: About 1 hr
Located less than 15 km (9.3 miles) from the Monastery of El Escorial is Valle de los Caidos
It’s the most controversial day trip destination in this guide and a monument that leaves Spaniards divided
Valle de los Caidos is a war memorial that serves as the final resting place of more than 40,000 civil war soldiers
It features a 150-meter-high stone cross (492 ft) that’s the tallest of its kind in the world
Built by Spanish dictator Francisco Franco
it’s 18-year construction began immediately after the end of the Spanish Civil War
Franco claimed it to be a monument of healing but he used political prisoners in its construction
forcing them to work in conditions that have been likened to a concentration camp
his body was buried in the monument’s basilica for 44 years
Ring-wing extremists view it as a place of reverence while critics call it a monument to fascism
Franco’s remains were exhumed and moved to Madrid in October 2019

How to Get There From Madrid: Take Bus 661 from Moncloa station in Madrid to San Lorenzo de El Escorial bus station
you’ll need to catch Bus 660A to Valle de los Caidos
It departs just once daily at 3:15PM and goes back to San Lorenzo de El Escorial station at 5:30PM
you could be spending the night there.Approximate Travel Time: About 1 hr 15 mins
Cuenca is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Castilla–La Mancha
it’s famous for its casas colgadas or hanging houses that appear to defy gravity
Cuenca’s casas colgadas are built right up to the cliff’s edge
Many of the houses are several stories tall with wooden balconies that hang precipitously over the Cuenca Gorge
you’re practically standing over the gorge
The casas colgadas are a spectacular sight and the main draw in Cuenca
but the town offers other interesting attractions as well like Cuenca Cathedral
and the Spanish Museum of Abstract Art which is housed inside one of the casas colgadas
How to Get There From Madrid: The fastest way to get to Cuenca from Madrid is by AVE high-speed train
It departs from Atocha station and gets you into Cuenca-Fernando Zóbel station in about an hour
the station is about 6 km (3.7 miles) outside the city center so you’ll need to catch a bus or taxi into the city.Approximate Travel Time: About 1 hr 15 mins
Avila is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Castilla y Leon
It’s famous for its medieval city walls which are among the most well-preserved in Europe
the Walls of Avila stretch for over 2.5 km (1.6 miles) and have an average height of 12 meters (39 ft)
and over 2,500 turrets that served as an important line of defense against the Moors after the Reconquista
Inside the ancient walls are many historical and religious attractions
some of the most prominent being the Cathedral of Avila
You can visit Avila on your own by train, or you can go on a guided tour (Option 1 | Option 2)
These tours combine Avila with other destinations in this guide
How to Get There From Madrid: The most convenient way of getting to Avila is by train
You can catch a train from Principe Pio station in Madrid to Avila Station.Approximate Travel Time: About 1 hr 40 mins
then you’ll probably want to make a day trip from Madrid to Ribera del Duero
It’s an important wine-making region in Castilla y Leon famous for its red wines made mainly from tempranillo grapes
Wines produced in the Ribera del Duero region enjoy Denominacion de Origen (DO) status
For a bottle to carry the Ribera del Duero DOP label
it must adhere to a strict set of guidelines that govern every step of the wine-making process
As far as I know, there’s no easy way to get to the Ribera del Duero region on your own so it’s best to go on a wine-tasting tour
How to Get There From Madrid: There doesn’t seem to be an easy way of getting to Ribera del Duero from Madrid using public transportation. It’s best to either rent a car or go on a guided tour.Approximate Travel Time: About 2 hrs
Consuegra is a town in the La Mancha area of Toledo province
It’s famous for its twelve white tower windmills that are believed to be the windmills described in Miguel de Cervantes’ famous 17th-century novel
Don Quixote de la Mancha mistakes the windmills for giants with flailing arms and picks a fight with them
This memorable scene led to the coining of the English idiom “tilting at windmills”
Consuegra is a must-visit for fans of the novel but other than the windmills and the Moorish castle, there isn’t as much to do there. It’s perhaps best visited by rental car
Salamanca has been called one of the most spectacular Renaissance cities in Europe
Its historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s home to numerous Romanesque
Among Salamanca’s most famous landmarks are its university and Plaza Mayor. Established in 1134, Salamanca University is the second-oldest university in Europe
It’s hailed as one of the country’s finest examples of Renaissance architecture and is a favorite destination for international students wanting to learn Spanish in Spain
Even more iconic perhaps is Salamanca’s Plaza Mayor which is one of the biggest and most beautiful squares in Spain
it’s considered an emblem of the city
The university and Plaza Mayor are the most famous
but there’s plenty to see and appreciate in this university town like the Museo Art Nouveau y Deco and the New and the Old Cathedral
Considering the distance [215 km (133.5 miles)] and all it has to offer
it may be best experienced on an overnight stay rather than a one day trip from Madrid
Taking the morning train will give you a little over 4 hours to explore the city before having to catch the high-speed train back to Madrid. Alternatively, you can go on this guided tour. It’s an 11-hour tour that takes you to both Salamanca and Avila
How to Get There From Madrid: The fastest way to get to Salamanca from Madrid is by high-speed train
it seems to depart just once daily at 3:55PM
It makes more sense to catch the slower 11:10AM train then take the high-speed 6:20PM train back to Madrid.Approximate Travel Time: About 2 hr 45 mins
Like Barcelona
there’s so much to see and do in Madrid that most first-time visitors will have their days filled with visits to the city’s museums and markets alone
