Muslim restaurant along Jalan Sultanah here in Kluang on Friday (Sept 13) KLUANG: The ‘Jom Kosong' campaign will motivate Malaysians to be more health conscious when eating out The Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister said a Healthy Ministry study showed that one Malaysian would take 26 teaspoons of sugar per day while the recommended intake was six teaspoons per day “Almost 20% of Malaysians or one in every five of us are diabetic where we are the highest country in Southeast Asia to have the most number of diabetes cases “Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently called upon Malaysians to take health knowledge seriously particularly regarding the dangers of excessive sugar consumption and this campaign will create awareness of it,” she said Fuziah said this in a press conference after launching the state-level ‘Jom Kosong' campaign held at an Indian Muslim restaurant along Jalan Sultanah here on Friday (Sept 13) She added that the ministry was always engaging with its strategic partners to get more restaurants including established chain outlets to be part of ‘Jom Kosong' campaign Fuziah said the ministry has roped in the Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) where they have expressed their support towards the campaign “We are targeting Indian Muslim restaurants first because they are the most popular among all Malaysians The ministry is grateful to Presma for giving their full cooperation to support this initiative She added that the next step was to get more popular restaurants including those at highway RNR and food courts nationwide on board the campaign Fuziah said eating out may soon be cheaper and healthier by placing the choice of excluding sugar from drinks at eateries in the hands of the patrons themselves She added the 'Jom Kosong' campaign will see many food and retail businesses slowly implement the choice of sugarless drinks for cheaper prices to their customers "Customers will also have the option of adding sugar to their drinks with additional cost "This campaign can help to educate the public on the financial cost of sugar to help them make healthier choices we are empowering people to become more health-conscious users while at the same time teaching them to save money by cutting unnecessary costs," she said Fuziah said the ministry also hopes to encourage Malaysians to switch to sugar-free drinks for a healthier and more affordable lifestyle “This will help spread awareness on the need and how to cut excessive sugar intake in drinks which is one of the main causes of obesity among the people,” she said Fuziah said all products containing sugar would also be immediately removed from the list of discounted items under the ministry’s 'Jualan Rahmah Madani' programme We would SINGAPORE: A man shared on social media that a coffee shop in Bishan charged him an extra 20 cents for his takeaway coffee In his post on the Facebook group ‘COMPLAINT SINGAPORE’ on Thursday (Aug 1) Mr Seetho KF explained that the stall normally charges $1.20 for Coffee O Kosong (black coffee) when served in their glass cup but $1.40 when served in a paper cup Mr Seetho expected that bringing his own cup would help him avoid the additional cost associated with the paper cup he was shocked that he was still charged $1.40 even though he did not use any of the stall’s cups When Mr Seetho inquired about the extra charge the cashier lady told him that the price was the same regardless of whether customers used their own cups or the shop’s cups was set by her boss and suggested he check the price board for details He was also told that he could file a complaint if he was unhappy with the explanation “What is the justification when the government is encouraging recycling and reducing waste Are they taking advantage to make more profit to recover their costs ( they bidded high prices to operate the coffee shop) especially in this present environment when costs are going up What can the authorities do to stop these malpractices Using my own cup justified an extra 20 cents Even food stalls are giving a discount of 30 cents if using their own containers Can the authorities do something before costs become higher even we are saving the environment.” many users expressed disappointment with the stall’s policy and strongly encouraged Mr Seetho to report the issue to the relevant authorities “Time for the government to look into this and many past vendors’ bad practices Absolutely zero governance in the management at all..” Others also expressed that the stall’s green policies were just for show “The takeaway cold drinks cups are seldom recycled by patrons & in fact use more plastic & possibly generate more pollution in production several other coffeeshop & food court chains are copying them It’s many steps backwards to Singapore’s bid to contribute to climate change.” “What is more ironic is they put some sign saying they dun offer straws to save the earth how much more plastic to make that cup compared to making straws?” The Independent Singapore has contacted Kimly Coffeeshop for comments and updates Read also: 50 cents takeaway boxes adds to rising cost Many students from both sides of the Causeway graduate from the same universities in these countries The language has long been in the DNA of many Malaysians we looked at the Malaysian diplomatic corps with much awe and envy While the Malaysians had already had a smooth-running corps which knew how to organise and conduct black tie dinners and speak the right language because of longstanding familiarity with things English our boys and girls from Toa Payoh and Ghim Moh had to scramble to pick up the mannerisms and the high-standard language expected at such functions there is a vibrant (@KKMPutrajaya) January 3, 2022 a Twitter user decided to leave a cynical comment after pointing out the “empty water” mistake After realising that the “mistake” had been circulating on the internet, MOH released a statement yesterday (4 January 2022) on their Facebook page to clarify what had happened “The screenshot image that circulated around did not depict the actual poster that was posted which was originally in Malay and not in English.” “This happened because the user activated their auto-translate text feature on Facebook from their phone,” read the statement They also urged Malaysians to not rely on the auto-translate feature on Facebook as it often does not give an accurate translation A number of netizens left some suggestions for MOH to implement in their future postings to avoid such situations and to highlight the importance of language as a multiracial country “The implementation of 2 languages in postings are indeed crucial to avoid readers from using Facebook or Google translate which can sometimes lead to huge misunderstandings.” A user also urged the Ministry of Education to increase the standard of English in kindergartens and above to ensure that every Malaysian is comfortable enough with the language You can checkout the full statement from MOH here: KENYATAAN MEDIA KEMENTERIAN KESIHATAN MALAYSIA ISU TERJEMAHAN AIR KOSONG KEPADA “EMPTY WATER” DI FACEBOOK KKM Posted by KEMENTERIAN KESIHATAN MALAYSIA on Monday, January 3, 2022 Do you think official government social media platforms should use dual-language in their postings Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below Also read: “Just blocking the sun only” Penang Shop Puts Up ‘Honest’ Banner, Netizens Think It’s Brilliant Follow us on Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for the latest stories and updates daily A male teacher in his 20s from central China tragically passed away in his office a 29-year-old woman tragically passed away after falling off a parking lot at Queensbay shopping mall.. It was then that the audience asked for a refund of their tickets. In case you don't now, the refunding of tickets for Joker's gigs is a running joke for his fans.   She continued: “Joker reminded the guy to wash his foot, and suggested that maybe he (Joker) could drink half the bottled coffee, and pass the other half to the guy to wash his foot.” Watch the entire segment from Joey’s POV below. Aside from that hilarious exchange, Joey also shared her other favourite moments from the concert, such as when Joker poked fun at a buff fan for being too buff.  Despite his playful reputation, the singer also showed his thoughtful side during the show. “[He also] brought up ticket scalpers and discouraged such behaviour in a funny manner!” said Joey.  “He noticed the audience at the top [didn’t] have light sticks, and he handled it in such a heartwarming and graceful manner. He told everyone to turn on our phone torchlights instead, and I thought it was really nice [of him]!” she added.  For those who didn’t manage to make it for the shows, you can take a look at the concert highlights in Joey's IG video below. SINGAPORE — Husband and wife Mr Yahya Ibrahim and Madam Salama Salim avoid soft drinks and sugary foods they go for the “kosong” option (Malay for “zero” has ditched his beloved Coca-Cola entirely Mdm Salama Salim and husband Mr Yahya Ibrahim use boiled ingredients to make their soto ayam (a Malay chicken soup dish) They watch their diet closely because they know it plays a big part in staving off diabetes Both of Mdm Salama’s parents developed the disease about two to three decades ago and they are determined not to follow suit “We know about diabetes and we’re quite scared (of getting it) so we try to lessen our sugar intake,” said Mdm Salama Mr Yahya said he never used to be as health-conscious as his wife until four years ago when he noticed he was putting on the pounds he also knew diabetes was a real danger — almost a third of those over 60 years old in Singapore have the disease you have to be more careful,” Mr Yahya added noting that regular exercise and medical screenings are also important It is no surprise that the couple sells a healthier version of soto ayam (a Malay chicken soup dish) at their food stall at Our Tampines Hub uses ingredients that are boiled instead of sauteed In his National Day Rally speech in Malay yesterday Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong mentioned the couple’s food stall as he urged Singaporeans to watch what they eat He addressed the dangers of diabetes as one of three areas with long-term implications that the Government was paying attention to curry is still delicious if we use evaporated milk instead of coconut milk.” saying their healthier version of soto ayam is popular among customers about half of the orders were for soto ayam even though they offer six to seven other dishes another lower-calorie dish they serve is mee hoon soto where they replace the yellow noodles with vermicelli Mr Yahya attributes the healthy response to their soto ayam partly to people “being more health-conscious” “The younger generation is more educated and knows more about being healthy What keeps people coming also has to do with their success in keeping dishes tasty Referring to those who have been patronising their stall which was opened by Mdm Salama’s parents about 30 years ago in Tanjong Pagar but moved to Tampines at the beginning of this year Mr Yahya said: “Some previous customers who stay around Tampines will drop by to eat our food They say our soto ayam is the best!” LOUISA TANG when a modest 20 cents was charged for iced water or ice kosong and canned drinks or coffee would be sold for under a dollar some Singaporeans are now finding that they would have to fork out a hefty 80 cents for a cup of tap water at certain establishments this even exceeds the cost of a cup of kopi o found elsewhere a beverage stall in Kallang’s Block 56 Jalan Benaan Kapal offers customers a large cup of kopi o for a mere S$0.60 at the coffeeshop in Block 631 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 customers are required to pay an additional 20 cents bringing the total cost of a cup of ice water to S$0.80 coffee prices at this stall generally ranged from $1.30 to $1.60 This steep price increase has led some residents to question whether they would be better off buying their drinks from food courts in shopping malls as prices at coffee shops have almost caught up with those in malls An Ang Mo Kio resident named Zhang told the Chinese Daily “The price of drinks in a neighborhood coffee shop should be more affordable it will be a burden to some residents and the elderly.” The significant price hikes have raised concerns among customers who question the affordability of basic amenities in local coffeeshops the coffeeshop manager defended the increases attributing them to rising operational costs and employee salaries have necessitated the adjustment in prices also expressed frustration that customers often overlook the cost of running the business and focus solely on the starting price of the drinks This is not the first time complaints about high prices for tap water have emerged a woman expressed shock when a drink seller at Amoy Street Food Centre charged her $1.40 for iced water She had expected the water to cost no more than 50 cents As customers voice their concerns about rising prices at local coffee shops it remains to be seen how businesses will respond to these complaints and whether measures will be taken to ensure more reasonable pricing for essential items like water SINGAPORE: Netizens are responding to a post showcasing a $1.40-Teh C Kosong in a food and beverage establishment at NTUC Punggol An victory by the Reds over Barcelona when they got a second reason to lick their lips on Wednesday (May 8) Liverpool fans received four kosong (plain) pratas at Casuarina Curry on May 8 to celebrate the football club's 4-0 win over Barcelona in a Champions League match SINGAPORE — Liverpool fans such as Shamir Robinson, 24, were still savouring the sweet taste of a stunning come-from-behind victory by the Reds over Barcelona Mr Robinson was still rubbing his eyes in tiredness and disbelief after the Champions League semi-final when he learnt that he could get free prata to celebrate the dazzling victory he caught up with some sleep then woke to see the promotion on Facebook that Casuarina Curry was offering four free plain (kosong) pratas to fans sporting a Liverpool jersey but is also used to refer to a plain prata The Reds needed to win by a margin of four goals to prevail over Barcelona which had beaten Liverpool 3-0 in the first leg of the semi-final who went to Casuarina Curry’s Sixth Avenue outlet Barcelona had good chances in the first half as well although they were thwarted by excellent defending and superb goalkeeping,” said the undergraduate who has been supporting the club for nearly 20 years Casuarina Curry’s owner Elango Subramaniam said that he came up with the promotion to “get back” at his friends who mocked him over Liverpool’s scoreline last week “Those Manchester United fans laughed at me repeating ‘three kosong (zero)’,” quipped Mr Subramaniam who has been a Liverpool fan for nearly 30 years he had the last laugh when the final whistle blew Liverpool will be looking to clinch the Champions League title this year after losing the title to Spanish giants Real Madrid last year “When we won this morning with four-kosong (four-zero) I thought why not give away four kosong (plain) pratas to fellow fans?” The promotion was announced through Casuarina Curry’s Facebook page on Wednesday morning Mr Subramaniam said the two Casuarina Curry outlets which took part in this promotion — Sixth Avenue and Upper Thompson — had given away about 1,200 pratas in total by Wednesday evening It was the first time such a promotion was held When TODAY visited the Sixth Avenue outlet at about 5pm four Liverpool fans were enjoying their free set of four plain pratas The National University of Singapore undergraduate thought that the promotion was “timely” Mr Robinson chatted with fellow fan Dean Tan They shared their thoughts on Liverpool’s upcoming performance and potential opponents Tottenham Hotspur or Ajax Amsterdam in the Champions League finals who works in the egg distribution business overslept for the big match in the morning and caught only the final minutes I saw the half-time score (1-0) on my phone when I woke up I was very stunned by the score line,” said the 33-year-old He brought an extra Liverpool jersey for a friend to wear over his shirt so that they could both enjoy the free pratas together Springleaf Prata Place — which owns six outlets around the island — had a similar offer Mr Tan lives near a Springleaf Prata Place outlet in Bukit Panjang but he chose to visit the Casuarina Curry instead as he saw that Springleaf’s promotion was only for its first 10 customers.  Springleaf Prata Place later extended the offer into a full-day promotion after receiving feedback from their Muslim customers who were fasting “We wanted our Muslim friends to enjoy our prata for iftar,” said Springleaf’s marketing and communications manager Sathia Selvam watched the full game this morning and wanted to hold this promotion and he wanted to reward their supporters,” he added Viral Pelanggan Shopee Beli HP Xiaomi tapi Terima Kardus Kosong KOMPAS.com - Beberapa waktu terakhir beredar sebuah video viral yang attempt to win votes But Rakyat Jelata warns the rakyat not to be swayed by janji kosong The Malaysian electorate and their children have seen wave upon wave of RM500 and RM100 distributed under eleventh-hour government aid ‘schemes’ The federal government seems to have felt a sudden gush of generosity – tagged with the slogan “Janji Ditepati” – towards the rakyat and now flood victims in the east coast states are to expect another wave of RM500 aid distribution the government is also splurging on schools – a sudden windfall of millions or billions of ringgit is flowing into vernacular education as well as other neglected sectors of socio-economic development Again we hear the same rhetorical phrase drip from the lips of PM Najib and DPM Muhyddin Yassin – “Janji Ditepati” Small business successes deluge television screens with their intermittent broadcasts followed by bold words of “Bajet 2013 All these sunshine stories appear to take place in a period of glowing economic highs but may eventually fold a few months down the road due to market saturation for particular products or services lack of strategic marketing knowhow or simply an economic downturn when the purchasing power of the public is at an all time low mismanagement can be the downfall of a well intended business many can take off but how many will stay up Over these large portions of magnanimity are sprinkled discounts in fees for various government or semi-government services such as the 50 per cent discount on passport application or renewal fees for senior citizens and the 50 per cent discount on commuter train fares (citizens can apply for this scheme by submitting a photocopy of their identity card and they will receive a discount travel card with PM Najib’s face on it!) But how many older senior citizens are inclined to travel to unfamiliar places in far-off lands So will such ‘discounts’ facilitate significant savings for most of the rakyat There are also goodies for the youth in the form of discounts for Smartphones and iPads and book vouches for those in education those who are not yet working and those unable to afford such items will join the queue to get them The latest UUM fiasco by Sharifah Zohra Jabeen may prompt them to think about the motives for these ‘gifts’ If Umno and the BN think that the rakyat are too naïve or stupid to recognise vote buying that there are more such rewards in the offing – if they remain at the helm with the consent of the electorate that there was no need for a change of government to facilitate a change of system Why is it that only after 55 years does the current BN administration suddenly become aware of the rakyat’s needs Did the outcome of the last general election have anything to do with it Will this miraculous shift of focus towards the economic needs of the people – away from the needs of large corporations cronies and foreign investors survive another term of Barisan rule and hints – that the rakyat will prosper under a regime outstaying its welcome – sound increasingly hollow When did the country have bottomless coffers into which federal leaders may dip at will to produce all these goodies called “Janji ditepati” Is there an Aladdin’s cave or a magic lamp with a genie to grant every wish commanded the hard cash must come from somewhere more mundane – the coffers of the East Malaysian “White-haired One” Petronas or even from the deep pockets of other cronies and political leaders with abundant vested interests harvested from higher taxes on ordinary goods and services like basic food items fuel and service taxes paid by the ordinary rakyat then the government’s idea of spending taxes to benefit the rakyat is certainly a twisted one It is clear to many that this is nothing but a short-lived election ploy a covert election campaign tactic also named if the Umnoputras and BN in general are defeated They have so far shown themselves to be sore losers resorting to certain underhanded tactics in attempts to undermine Pakatan state governments Hitting below the belt without even a blush of embarrassment seems normal to them The electorate has witnessed such practices within and outside Parliament The ‘kataks’ in Perak have not been forgotten over the past three to four years The current BN Perak state government was not duly elected by the rakyat but forced on them and the payback will no doubt include a huge interest permanently fixed to it The demon of corruption regularly and efficiently checks and updates its account books The only way to cancel the debt owed and stop borrowing from the Hell Bank is to give way to the inevitable flood of truth that will eventually burst its banks The debt to the rakyat is still outstanding and must be repaid on demand There are rumours that capital has flowed out of the country; so we can expect certain well known politicians to be doing the same sooner or later or the age-old excuse of “my relative has died The rakyat must be vigilant; such excuses must be taken with a big pinch of salt the urgent business of the rakyat is to safeguard and ensure our own future as a united graft and all other foul dealings that undermine the rule of law democracy and justice in this land we call our home for the rakyat’s clear and unqualified decision on whom the mandate to serve the country will fall on Don’t be swayed by “janji kosong” (empty promises) Rakyat Jelata is the pseudonym of a regular contributor to our Thinking Allowed Online section Milo on Tuesday launched a variant of the drink with no added table sugar and named the beverage ‘Milo Gao Kosong’ Nestle Singapore managing director Rajiv Deraniyagala said that the beverage was produced as a result of a challenge posed by President Halimah Yacob nine months ago when we had this conversation with President Halimah Yacob on what we can do to reduce the sugar in Milo,” Mr Deraniyagala said Nestle Singapore introduced another variant of Milo in July last year The product christened ‘Milo Gao Siew Dai’ has 50 per cent less table sugar and 30 per cent more protein than the original formula When they launched this product the President challenged the beverage maker to make a Milo product with no added sugar after many months of research here in Singapore we are extremely excited to unveil the first Milo without added (table) sugar,” Mr Deraniyagala added President Halimah inaugurated the beverage by drinking the first official cup of ‘Milo Gao Kosong’ at Plaza Singapura The President later said in her Facebook: “I was delighted to launch the world’s first MILO Gao Kosong yesterday It is heartening that Nestle has taken my suggestion to create a version of MILO with zero table sugar added I suggested this idea when I met the team during the Healthy Lifestyle Festival SG 2017 and keep up your efforts in helping Singaporeans stay healthy.” The President’s promotion of the beverage drew criticisms in social media Facebook users Kelvin Lim and Esther Ong commenting on the launch of the beverage expressed surprise that the President was promoting a beverage Several other commenters on Channel NewsAsia’s Facebook post on the topic asked where the President was during the Trump-Kim Summit last week Yet others questioned how healthy the drink was: Other Facebook users have suggested that the ‘Milo Gao Kosong’ is not entirely sugar free “Please for the sake of the country just let real market forces take over no need to “ cater” for it or have endorsement by HPB “This is simply a negative nudge made by people who don’t have skin in the game disappointing for the people and shameful for HPB to endorse this.” This is ridiculous.“ The Gao Kosong version only contains SUGAR that is naturally present in milk and malt – the two… Posted by 官世民 on Tuesday, 19 June 2018 The new drink is endorsed by the HPB under its Healthier Choice Symbol programme director of HPB’s corporate & industry partnerships division said: “We are pleased to see the launch of Milo Gao Kosong Milo has been a strong industry supporter in our initiatives to reduce the consumption of sugar sweetened beverages We are very happy to see the brand take one step further to once again reaffirm its commitment to producing healthier beverage options for Singaporeans.” PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry says that a screenshot of one of its Facebook posts which uses the word “empty water” in English to describe the Malay word “air kosong” is an automatic translation feature of the social media platform asked users not to rely on the auto-translate feature as it was not always accurate and could lead to misunderstanding What is the most that you have been charged for iced water overpriced sky juice may be a thing of the past as the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) is cracking down on restaurants and eateries that are charging more that RM1 for a glass of plain water the operation is currently taking place at high-end restaurants eateries and stalls across the country till 15 April a total of 12 notices against food and beverage operators have been issued for selling plain water above the set price of RM1.00 per glass since the operation began According to Selangor KPDNHEP Director Muhammad Zikril Azan Abdullah “Traders who are served the notice are given two to five working days to supply the necessary information as instructed.” Consumers can lodge complaints pertaining to the matter and other unscrupulous trade practices at e-aduan@kpdnhep.gov.my call 1800 886 800 or Whatsapp them at 019-279 4317 Also read: Dad Names His Son ‘Department Of Statistical Communication’ As A Tribute To His Workplace
