is a hub for the Smart Farm Innovation Valley project mentoring young farmers and advancing smart farming technologies fostering innovation and sustainability in agriculture the Republic of Korea faces an ageing farm population and the challenge of finding replacements for young farmers One of the government initiatives to bring the youth into farming is establishing and supporting a network of innovation valleys focusing on smart farming and agrifood enterprises The Smart Farm Innovation Valley project was born to provide youth with mentorship The project consists of building and operating agricultural clusters across the country equipped with facilities such as test centres Four such centres are under development and operation in Sangju The Smart Farm Innovation Valley cluster serves as a unique mentoring and incubation model that has provided quality education and training opportunities to young farmers through the Startup Incubation Centres (SIC) since 2018 The SIC focuses on educating young farmers on how to start their own smart farms but who lack agricultural knowledge the programme accepted 104 trainees from Sangju and Gimje the number of enrolled farmers reached 208 across all four Smart Farm Innovation Valley locations and 168 are currently taking an active part in the curriculum The agricultural cluster also accumulates a wide variety of data from the smart farms which are also used for insect pest/disease forecasting remote temperature/humidity control and other useful smart farming solutions or services the central focus is the strawberries and tomatoes value chains Young farmers are offered a one-stop mentoring service for entry-level farmers and continuing up to fully established farmers Local farmers can also receive assistance from the facility with exporting products The Smart Farm Valley also offers other services such as researching and developing robotics/automation and learning how to export Sangju strawberries and tomatoes to countries outside Korea the Smart Farm Innovation cluster leverages the area’s agricultural and life science infrastructure Provided services at the Center include setting up an innovative product development system that integrates the R&D testing and validation/certification processes diversifying the crop portfolio and developing functional food products the focus is on diversifying the main crop portfolio in crops such as bell peppers and premium strawberries and supporting their testing and export promotion melons and strawberries and research climate adaptation and cultivation of tropical crops The Goheung cluster also focuses on developing local nutrient solutions to replace imported products and creating an agricultural district specialising in crop production and raising seedlings the services available in the Smart Farm Innovation Valley are jointly operated and managed by individual farmers research institutions and private sector businesses and cover the entire product life cycle (from production quality control and processing to sales/marketing) as well as the upstream and downstream industries involved allowing for full-scale development of local smart farms opportunities Digital Villages Initiative in the Republic of Korea(Available soon) Artificial pollination is being carried out in a pear orchard in Sabolguk-myeon and Exploring the effect of SJQJD on the pulmonary microbiota of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) rats through 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) sequencing. SJQJD could improve lung structure and inflammatory response in COPD rats. 16s rRNA sequencing analysis showed that SJQJD could significantly improve the abundance and diversity of bacterial communities in COPD rats. Through differential analysis and machine learning methods, potential microbial biomarkers were identified as Mycoplasmataceae, Bacillaceae, and Lachnospiraceae. SJQJD could improve tissue morphology and local inflammatory response in COPD rats, and its effect may be related to improve pulmonary microbiota. Volume 14 - 2024 | https://doi.org/10.3389/fcimb.2024.1379831 This article is part of the Research TopicMachine Learning and Deep Learning Applications in Pathogenic Microbiome ResearchView all 13 articles Objective: Exploring the effect of SJQJD on the pulmonary microbiota of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) rats through 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) sequencing Methods: A COPD rat model was constructed through smoking and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation and the efficacy of SJQJD was evaluated by hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining and Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbnent Assay (ELISA) The alveolar lavage fluid of rats was subjected to 16S rRNA sequencing The diversity of lung microbiota composition and community structure was analyzed and differential microbiota were screened machine learning algorithms were used for screening biomarkers of each group of the microbiota Results: SJQJD could improve lung structure and inflammatory response in COPD rats 16s rRNA sequencing analysis showed that SJQJD could significantly improve the abundance and diversity of bacterial communities in COPD rats Through differential analysis and machine learning methods potential microbial biomarkers were identified as Mycoplasmataceae Conclusion: SJQJD could improve tissue morphology and local inflammatory response in COPD rats and its effect may be related to improve pulmonary microbiota there is no effective treatment for AECOPD; therefore exploring effective prevention and treatment of COPD is one of the most urgent demands of the medical field worldwide These physiological processes are involved in various stages of physiological pathology there is currently limited research by semen benincaae and concretio silicea bambusae SJQJD is an internal preparation of Zhongshan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital (specific lot number: Guangdong Medicine Preparation Z20071015) All traditional Chinese medicine decoction pieces are provided by the Chinese Pharmacy of Zhongshan Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital and identified as qualified authentic products by Deputy Chief Pharmacist He Jianhong The abovementioned 10 herbs were soaked in water for 30 minutes and the decoction treatment was performed twice for 1.5 hours The mixture was boiled and brought to a constant volume of 1 L and the supernatant was isolated and packaged to complete the preparation Experimental grouping: Specific pathogen free grade 10 week old Wistar male rats (250 ± 20) purchased from Spelford Beijing Biotechnology Co. 30 rats were randomly divided into the following five groups (n = 6): control and model + SJQJD (low-dose [L]: 0.6 g/mL) groups Animal model construction: Both cigarette smoke exposure and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) intratracheal instillation were used to establish the COPD model as follows: (1) LPS intratracheal instillation: 0.2 mL of LPS solution (1 mg/mL) was instilled into the airway on the 1st and 14th day of modeling; and (2) smoking: from day 2 to 28 rats were transferred to a dedicated disinfection box and exposed to smoke daily (except for day 14) Medication intervention: The control group was not subjected to LPS intratracheal instillation and smoking procedures and was administered 2.5 mL of physiological saline by gavage every day; the model group was administered 2.5 mL of physiological saline by gavage every day; the administration groups were orally administered 2.5 mL of SJQJD (H The alveolar lavage fluids and lung tissues of rats were retrieved after administration for subsequent experiments The retrieved lung tissues were fixed with 10% formaldehyde solution the tissues were cut into 2-mm thick tissue blocks which were then dehydrated using gradient ethanol the tissue blocks were cut into 5-μm thick slices The morphology of the lung tissues was observed under a microscope and their photos were captured The alveolar lavage fluids of rats were centrifuged at 4°C at 1800 r/min for 5 minutes and the supernatants were collected for detection ELISA was performed to detect interleukin (IL)-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α in the supernatant of the alveolar lavage fluid according to the instructions of the kit (JiangLai The 16s rRNA sequencing was performed by Shenzhen Weikemeng Technology Group Co., Ltd. using the experimental alveolar lavage fluid, including DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction-mediated amplification, and Illumina high-throughput sequencing. Bioinformatics analyses were performed using the Wekemo Bioincloud (https://www.bioincloud.tech) Operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were clustered with 97% consistency and the sequences of OTUs were annotated with species to obtain the corresponding species information and species-based abundance distribution α-diversity analysis was performed utilizing the following evaluation indexes: Chao1 index for evaluating microbial abundance and Shannon and Simpson indexes for evaluating microbial evenness and abundance β-diversity was analyzed to compare the diversity among different ecosystems and cluster analysis was performed on the sample distance matrix to construct a hierarchical visualization of differences among samples Linear discriminant analysis effect size (LEfSe) analysis was performed to test the significance of differences in species composition and community structure of the grouped samples further analyzing the microbiome composition of the two groups at the phylum and genus levels and determining the species abundances with significant differences the characteristic microbial communities of each group were screened using machine-learning methods The GraphPad Prism 9.0 software was used to process data and visualize the data The comparison between two groups was conducted using t-test method the comparison between three groups was conducted using one-way ANOVA test method and the comparison between three groups that did not follow a normal distribution was conducted using Kruskal Wallis test The P-value of < 0.05 was considered statistically significant The tissue morphology of the control group was intact with no notable inflammatory cell infiltration (Figure 1); however that of the COPD model group was disordered with considerable detectable inflammatory cell infiltration and epithelial goblet cell proliferation indicating the successful establishment of the model a few inflammatory cells were observed in the lung tissue along with an enlargement of the alveolar spaces The SJQJD-M group of rats showed reduced aggregation of inflammatory cells in the lung tissue with some increase in the alveolar septa and inflammatory cell infiltration The SJQJD-L group of rats demonstrated moderate interstitial inflammatory changes in the lung tissue along with the widening of the alveolar septa and inflammatory cell infiltration ELISA was performed to detect the content of inflammatory factors in the alveolar lavage fluid. The results showed that compared with the control group, the levels of IL-6 (P < 0.0001), IL-8 (P < 0.0001), MMP-2 (P < 0.0001), MMP-3 (P < 0.0001), sIgA (P < 0.0001), and TNF-α (P < 0.0001) in the model group increased considerably, whereas SJQJD (H, M, and L) suppressed their increase in a concentration-dependent manner (Figure 2) Figure 2 SJQJD improved pulmonary inflammatory response and (F) TNF- α in rat alveolar lavage fluid The data was displayed as the mean ± SD (n=6) Figure 3 Stacking diagram of the relative abundance of microbial communities (A) The relative abundance of microbial communities at the phylum level in each sample (B) The relative abundance of microbial communities at the phylum level in each group (C) The relative abundance of microbial communities at the genus level in each sample (D) The relative abundance of microbial communities at the genus level in each group the SJQJD administration reversed this phenomenon Figure 4 SJQJD improved the diversity of lung microbiota The bacterial taxa with statistically significant differences among the groups were identified based on the Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) value, and the results were visualized by creating a LefSe cladogram (Figure 5A) and a histogram of LDA values (Figure 5B) and Alphaproteobacteria were the dominant bacterial taxa in the control group and Mollicutes were the dominant taxa in the model group and others were characteristic taxa for the SJQJD group Figure 5 Analysis results of the dominant microbial communities in each group (A) The branch diagram was obtained through LEfSe analysis (B) LDA effect size analysis of major biomarker taxonomic groups Figure 6 Analysis results of species differences in pulmonary microbiota (A) Heatmap of differential microbial communities among groups (D) The abundance of Mycoplasmataceae in three groups (E) The abundance of Bacillaceae in the three groups Figure 7 Machine learning screening of microbial biomarkers B) The results of RF method screening for characteristic microbial communities D) The results of SVM method screening for characteristic microbial communities (E) Intersection results of feature microbial communities selected by machine learning Table 1 Machine learning screening of characteristic microbial communities in each group the T lymphocyte subgroup cluster of differentiation (CD)4+ and the CD4+/CD8+ ratio increased indicating the significantly better optimization in the combined treatment group than that in the Western medicine control group (P < 0.05) This suggested that SJQJD might improve the immune function of patients These findings imply that SJQJD may exert its therapeutic effect on COPD by altering the lung microenvironment and consequently modulating the lung microbiota a COPD rat model was constructed through a combined approach of cigarette smoke exposure and intratracheal LPS instillation The COPD model group showed structural disorder with considerable inflammatory cell infiltration and epithelial goblet cell proliferation the SJQJD administration reversed these phenomena indicating its interventional effects on COPD the results showed that the microbial abundance and diversity in the COPD model group were significantly reduced and SJQJD could considerably reverse this phenomenon suggesting its role in improving the lung microbiota The above evidence suggests that Lachnospiraceae likely regulate the pulmonary microenvironment and local immune function through their metabolic products our study only presented the above results at the animal level The identification of biomarkers still needs further validation in clinical human specimens as it only observed changes in lung microbiota and did not further verify whether these changes will be involved in the occurrence and development of COPD as well as the specific mechanisms involved in the process These are the topics that we need to delve deeper into in the future The findings of this study show that SJQJD can improve COPD in rats Pulmonary microbiome analysis combined with machine learning identified Mycoplasmataceae and Lachnospiraceae as potential key biomarkers for SJQJD intervention in COPD; however more in-depth studies are required to elucidate their specific mechanisms and clinical significance The 16S sequencing data involved in this article has been uploaded to the figshare He said he looked for ways to produce functional agricultural products in a scientific way and found selenium in the process which aims to create a pro-biotics farming method to improve soil and root development with microorganisms and then developed a cultivation method in which a certain amount of selenium is consumed in vines to produce selenium grapes Probiotic farming refers to an agricultural method that uses more than 20 billion microorganisms per gram to create high-quality soil so that it can be effective in preventing pests CEO Chung also obtained a patent on how to make organic selenium and how to grow functional selenium agricultural products using it Eight nearby farms joined forces with CEO Chung's idea that they should differentiate themselves into functional agricultural products and selenium grapes have begun to be produced on 10,000 pyeong of farmland "Experts emphasize that selenium is essential for our body because it reduces active oxygen in the body," CEO Chung said "The active oxygen produced in the process of metabolizing oxygen entering the body during breathing is known as a substance that damages the cell membrane and prevents our body from recovering naturally." In several papers he introduced that selenium is a major component of glutathione peroxidase an enzyme that acts as an antioxidant in our body and plays an important role in activating antioxidant activity in the body the selenium shine muskets produced here have a very high sugar content of more than 18 Briggs I realized that farming is not easy through various trials and errors," CEO Chung said "I want to join forces with local farmers to pioneer a new market called functional fruits." ※ This service is provided by machine translation tool and website in this browser for the next time I comment Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value" This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. person of interest in connection with the shooting death of a father of two.LOS ALAMITOS (KABC) -- Los Alamitos police are seeking the public's help finding a person of interest in connection with the shooting death of a father of two Authorities identified 41-year-old Eleazar Vargas as a person of interest in the murder of 39-year-old Sangju Sung A motive for the fatal shooting has not been determined Sung was fatally shot at close range near Catalina and Pine streets at about 5:05 p.m Neighbor Susan Mason said she heard five quick shots "It was a semi-automatic and then a break He pumped five into Sung when he was standing "She saw a gentleman laying in the street she just went into hysterics," said neighbor Jim Pilkenton The Vargas' apartment is right next to the victim's an unidentified woman at Vargas' place asked ABC7 to leave Neighbors and church friends say Sung was a dedicated husband and father to his 3-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son He was also very involved at Sa-Rang Community Church in Anaheim Vargas was known by many neighbors for his aggressiveness He has three children and has lived in the neighborhood for 10 years "He would come around the corner really fast and burn rubber and he would come by at 5 o'clock in the morning with his radio blasting to where our windows would rattle," Mason said Friends said Sung had been having trouble with his neighbor and had just texted his wife that Vargas was causing problems again shortly before the gunfire erupted Los Alamitos police said Vargas was in the vicinity at the time of the shooting and is now missing "We've been unable to locate him or speak with him The investigators would like to speak with him in regards to this incident," Capt Los Alamitos police said they're not aware of any previous disturbance calls to Vargas' home Anyone with information about this deadly shooting was asked to contact the Los Alamitos Police Department at (562) 431-2255 ext 426 or Orange County Crime chemical materials unit under Korea’s SK Group will start the commercial operation of Asia’s first large-scale manufacturing plant for silicon battery materials in Sangju is the Asia’s first electric vehicle-scale silicon anode manufacturing facility that will go online very soon in the next month or so,” Group14 Technologies CEO Rick Luebbe told The Korea Herald in a recent interview which standardizes the manufacturing process with high efficiency the plant will start production of Group14’s flagship active silicon battery material with an initial annual capacity of 2,000 metric tons -- equivalent to 10 gigawatt-hours of battery capacity and enough for 100,000 to 200,000 units of electric cars The Sangju plant signifies the importance of the partnership with SK leading up to the launch of Group14’s second fully-owned commercial factory in Moses Lake Emphasizing the significance of dual sourcing for the introduction of new technologies Luebbe said that the automotive industry can’t simply base a platform on a technology that can only be accessed from one potential supplier “We’ve sought out the best partner to enable an independent second source for those automotive customers and we picked SK because of their leadership in batteries,” he said The battery industry is showing strong interest in pushing forward the technological transition from graphite-based lithium-ion batteries to using more advanced anode materials like silicon the silicon-carbon composite SCC55 can increase a battery’s energy density up to 50 percent which significantly reduces the cost at the battery pack level “This material is less expensive on a dollar per kilowatt-hour basis at the pack level (than graphite lithium-ion batteries),” Luebbe said we can take a third of the battery cells out of the path and still have the same (driving) range This results in significant cost savings -- lower cost of EVs.” Luebbe also noted that SCC55 batteries enable “extreme fast charging” of five to 10 minutes similar to charging internal combustion engine cars it takes around 20 to 50 minutes to charge electric cars installed with lithium-ion batteries With dozens of global companies working on silicon batteries Luebbe said that Group14 has the advantage of being years ahead of other players Aside from the first EV-scale production facility its battery products are already sold commercially in cell phones in China Recognizing the strategic importance of the Korean market Luebbe pointed out that three of the five largest battery manufacturers in the world are Korean firms -- LG Energy Solution “So we secured further intellectual property protection -- that is products and manufacturing processes here,” he said “We don’t currently envision other joint ventures in Korea we will certainly be happy to partner with both strategic partners and customers with SK On as well as LG and Samsung to help grow the overall industry.” The recent supply glitch issue on graphite mined from China gives a further push for Korean battery makers -- who have been highly dependent on these raw materials -- to replace them with silicon Inside the Kinjaz journey: A giant persimmon tree is decorated in a shopping mall in Xi 'an Cucumbers are growing densely in a 1,500-pyeong greenhouse but it is actually made of a special fluorine film The film material is so good that it performs as well as glass Cucumber seedlings for winter were officially established in November last year and the harvest has been in full swing since December It will be harvested for about six months by May next year The farm owner here is 42-year-old CEO Jeong Do-hwan He is a graduate of last year's two-year youth farming curriculum operated by Sangju Smart Farm Innovation Valley He worked as an engineer at an auto parts company in the Seoul metropolitan area and entered the Innovation Valley with his dream of returning to farming he planned his own farm and set up a cucumber cultivation greenhouse here upon graduation he started a new attempt before starting to be small in winter 223 LED lights installed inside the greenhouse Lighting is installed to assist in natural sunlight The reason for the installation of the lighting is that the lack of sunlight has been evident for several years Facilities represented by glass greenhouses There is an old adage that comes down like a legend in agriculture the amount of sunlight decreases due to the lack of sunlight hours and the increase in cloudy weather and the adverse effects on crop cultivation have begun to increase which require a lot of sunlight to solve this problem have increased the number of installing auxiliary lights inside greenhouses the reality is that few places are equipped with cucumber greenhouses and even auxiliary lamps CEO Jeong recently worked with confidence that the supplemental lighting would be of great help in growing cucumbers as the lack of sunlight has become a big problem "When I was practicing in Innovation Valley I was able to confirm the positive effect of the beam lights on the crop," he said local government subsidized projects could be used so they boldly installed auxiliary lights at 50% of their own cost LED lights were only applied to about half of all greenhouses to check the effectiveness of the beam lights This is to easily see the difference between where there is a light bulb and where there is no light The results have been a great success to date The effect of LED lighting was so clear that even non-experts could feel a clear difference "Cucumbers with light bulbs have a good color and fewer shapes that bend and grow straight so they get a higher price in the market." "The stalk of cucumbers where there is lighting has already grown to 50 bars but only 40 bars where there is no lighting," he said "We believe that floodlights have the effect of increasing yields by 20-30%." "I would have greatly regretted it if there was no light last month." There were many cloudy days at the beginning of the year so the amount of sunlight was too insufficient except for just one week it is common to turn on the lights just before sunrise and right after sunset the lights are turned on for eight hours a day a leading lighting equipment company in Korea it is characterized by a very wide range of light irradiation "It is analyzed that electricity bills have been added about 2 million won per month but considering the effects of productivity improvement and price increase due to quality improvement it is a business that has enough money to take out the cost." The burden of electricity bills is also expected to decrease significantly from next year This is because the farm has been selected as a geothermal cooling and heating farm and is scheduled to start construction soon "When the installation of heating and cooling is completed the heating cost in winter will be reduced to a quarter of what it is now which can greatly offset the cost burden of installing lighting equipment," he said The LED lighting for plant growth of DSE used on this farm has a clear technical distinction compared to general lighting branded as "HIPPO FARMTECH," is characterized by emitting light of wavelengths specialized in plants and green light has the effect of preventing pests such as fungi Red light has the function of promoting photosynthesis and improving growth Hippopharmtech's plant growth lighting uses a complex wavelength that uses both blue and has a high color index to emit white light close to natural sunlight so it does not burden the eyes of crop growers "As a result of checking the effectiveness of LED lighting for growth on various crops at a container-type plant factory operated by the factory it was verified that the productivity was 30-40% higher than that of ordinary agricultural lighting equipment." The use of these plant growth lighting devices is expected to continue to expand in the future This is because control over light has become easier in a situation where accurate control of various environments for crop cultivation is key for smart agriculture to develop and carbon dioxide concentration required for crop cultivation with various sensors and software," CEO Chung said we can meet more optimal growth conditions and grow crops better."
