a woman in Moore says it highlights an ongoing flooding issue in her backyard
Six months into trying to get the problem fixed
she says it feels like the issue is not closer to being resolved
Sierra Kuryk's backyard is full of mud and puddles
that's nothing compared to what she's seen in recent weeks
"It looks like a lake out here," Kuryk said
"I definitely get upset because I feel like it could've been avoided."
Flooding problems have triggered a bad first impression for her family
we are getting massive amounts coming through this drainage outlet
It's pointed directly to our septic field
She's been talking to Moore city leaders about it since she moved in
but she claims there's still no plan in place to address the problem
The City of Moore provided Fox 25 with the following statement:
"They should've bought an easement to the road and put the drainage directly into the city's drainage system," Kuryk said
"They're dumping it all onto our property
and claiming that it can handle it when it clearly can't
I just would love the city to recognize the wrong
I just hope that the people who created the problem can help us resolve it
My property has essentially become a retention pond
Kuryk says the city told her they'd look at this issue in her neighborhood on Friday morning

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, the country’s national railway company, has announced the early completion of dredging works at the Caspian Sea port of Kuryk
The project was completed by its general contractor
The dredging operation involved removing over 990,000 cubic meters of soil from the port’s seabed using the Vesalius
the most powerful dredger in the Caspian Sea
the water depth in the port’s operational area and approach channel has been increased to 7–8 meters
This enhancement allows for an increased draft of vessels entering the port
enabling them to achieve full loading capacity
The project significantly boosts the port’s terminal capacity
further strengthening its role as a vital transit hub on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR)
This strategic route connects China and Europe via Central Asia and the Caucasus
The Kuryk port currently handles up to 6 million tons of cargo annually
including 4.1 million tons through its railway terminal and 1.9 million tons via its automobile terminal
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport has announced that from January to October 2024
the country’s Caspian Sea ports transported 6.2 million tons of cargo
reflecting a 3% increase compared to the same period last year
Transit cargo shipments saw even stronger growth
Truck transshipment via the Kuryk port’s ferry complex increased by 22%
while container transportation through the Aktau port surged by 84%
with approximately 27,000 containers moved along the East-West transit route
the Sarzha terminal at Kuryk port handled 55,000 tons of cargo
a new grain terminal with an annual capacity of 1 million tons was inaugurated at the Kuryk port
Efforts to enhance the port’s capacity continue
The Times of Central Asia previously reported that Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport has undertaken dredging operations at the Kuryk port to ensure sufficient depth for ship access
bolstering the capacity of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR)
The dredging project will support further expansion of Kuryk’s terminal capacity
currently set at 6 million tons annually—4 million tons through its railway terminal and 2 million tons via its automobile terminal

Jan De Nul has won two major contracts in Georgia and Kazakhstan
The first contract entails building a groundbreaking new deep water port in Anaklia
The second project involves the expansion of the Kuryk Port in Kazakhstan
both projects will provide a significant boost to the Middle Corridor
“The maritime trade route through the Caspian and Black Seas is considered a reliable alternative to the northern route through Russia
the existing sea ports currently act as bottlenecks for cargo traversing the route,” said JDN
The construction of a new deep water port in Anaklia

Kuryk (or Wonder Woman, as we refer to her at Coveteur HQ) worked on both of Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns—first as a fundraiser and then as finance director for the Democratic National Committee in the 2012 cycle—until his re-election
at which point she decided to switch gears and join the Vogue team as executive director of communications
where she became Wintour’s wing woman for events and handled her personal PR as well as PR for the Vogue brand (Kuryk and Wintour had previously met while working together on Obama’s campaign in ’08)
Kuryk decided it was time for yet another career evolution and launched Artemis Strategies
a boutique consultancy agency that works with clients on everything from marketing strategies to brand building
ensuring the brand’s messages are thoughtful and properly aligned with the current political climate
Kuryk’s main focus lies on The Met (a client she is more than familiar with from her years at Vogue) as she oversees the communications strategy for the museum’s famed Met Gala
we wanted to know every detail about her life
leading relief and recovery on behalf of Bloomberg L.P.
I’m up super early and out the door with my son at 7:45 AM
[and] I’m usually at my desk at the One World Trade Center by 8:45 AM
and it’s everything from working on clients’ projects
I’m really trying to manage my time efficiently and put aside time for business development—looking at my business plan
I purposely schedule time like that so it’s a priority.”
How her career in politics and publishing were perfect preludes to launching Artemis Strategies:
“I had my own business in my mid-to-late 20s as a political fundraiser
and then I went in-house when I worked on the Obama campaign in 2007
I turned 40 last year and had been thinking about what my next step should be
I started to look around and [realized] I had a really unique set of skills and experience
I can look at both sides of the coin—I can see the political and civic angle
and I can also see the consumer and corporate angles
I decided that if I was going to look at the next 10 years of my life
if I was going to leave such an incredible place as Vogue
I would only do it to build something on my own
I’m really lucky they were incredibly supportive of me and believed in me from the very start
That’s a large part [of] why I’m here today.”
“To help consumer-facing brands integrate and tell their value story better across all their channels
as well as internally within their companies.”
Where she sees the company in a year’s time:
“That’s something I’m really thinking about now
When and how I do that is something I’m currently really analyzing and thinking about because I don’t want to do it too fast
I purposely chose to do this on my own and not take investment because I wanted to see what was out there and grow organically
I wanted to have the ability to adapt and change and not be rigid in my thinking.”
She’ll never forget this one thing she learned from working in politics:
That is something that I’m really trying to impart in myself here with Artemis
Whether that’s a team you work with peer-to-peer or whether that’s a team you grow through strong management skills
I led a team at the [Democratic National Committee]
is an incredibly difficult skill to master
I benefited from that experience immensely.”
Working with him and especially coming on so early—at the end of 2006
early 2007—and working in New York during that time..
Believing in something and working so closely with so many incredible people to build something that sort of felt unlikely was an incredibly freeing and liberating experience
you have much more freedom to try new things and reach out to new people
I had worked in politics for a number of years prior to that
but I didn’t think I could be as deeply affected as I was by [Obama’s] vision for the country and by what I saw his vision do to people who had never been engaged in the political process before
It really renewed my faith [and] gave me such confidence in political activism
Anna Wintour made her transition from politics to Vogue an easy one:
“One of the things that was so freeing about that transition was
I had worked with Anna for a number of years [on the Obama campaign] before coming to Vogue
to be really honest and ask questions I wouldn’t necessarily have asked
That was a really wonderful way to jump into a new career.”
Her biggest takeaway from working with Anna:
“What I’ve always admired about Anna over the years is that she’s consistently the most prepared person in the room
As someone with so many demands on her time
I’m so impressed by how engaged she is with every meeting or person or topic she interacts with
That’s something I have really tried to emulate.”
What she is most looking forward to at this year’s Met Gala:
and I am thrilled to be able to work with the wonderful team at The Met and The Costume Institute
When you walk in that night and see how Raul and his team transform the entrance hall and the information booth to reflect the theme—it really takes my breath away every year
The unique way she is keeping her sanity in check:
“I’ll give you one that’s happening right now
My husband and I are separated during the week most weeks
So we decided—I don’t know why—to train for a half marathon
Neither of us has run more than a mile before
so we’re running the Brooklyn Half on May 19th
That’s actually been my de-stresser because I’m too busy being focused and worried about that
We encourage each other and keep each other motivated long-distance

In our long-running series, "How I'm Making It," we talk to people making a living in the fashion industry about how they broke in and found success
which was held just two weeks after she started at Vogue.)
as well as what she learned in the process
You began your career in the Clinton White House
worked as the finance director for the DNC and are now at Vogue
Tell me about that transition from politics to fashion
I worked in professional politics [for] my whole career, starting in 1998 and through 2013. For the last seven, I worked for President Obama; in the 2012 cycle, I was the national finance director of the DNC. It was a dream come true. If you're a political fundraiser, it's one of the top two jobs you can have
so that was a very natural end-point for me
there wasn't really anything left for me to do
I felt like I had done it all and I was so grateful for the opportunities I had
But that naturally closed the book on that chapter of my life
We're from New York — my husband's from Long Island
We [moved from D.C.] in January of 2013 and I took three months off
I'd saved a lot money so we could do that
and it was an incredible experience for me
so to have three months of not doing anything work-related was really weird
I sought a career coach to help me order my skill set
People I really admired had communications experience
talking to people and persuading them over to your ideas in a way that's very similar to what I'd done in fundraising
I met André [Leon Talley] first
He was a volunteer for the campaign in 2007
I didn't have traditional communications experience
But what was so nice was that they knew what I didn't know
There was no 'fake it 'til you make it.' And luckily
There was a lot of Googling who everyone was
how long did it take for you to really feel comfortable in your new role
When I talked to a lot friends who left the White House
as many people did in the year preceding me
I would say you may feel like you want to vomit for six months
You've touched on the similarities between politics and fashion
but could you highlight some of the differences
The ability to think in a longer time horizon is a real luxury
I understand that your job entails putting out quite a few fires
I think a large part of my job is remaining calm and solving mysteries
A lot of people may assume that PR is just pitching stories and securing placements — and while
a lot of what I do in my role as executive director of communications is solving problems that come up
Because I am at the axis of so many parts of the brand
And knowing the people to call and check with and also not panicking others around you
It's just about staying calm and figuring it out
and think through all the options before you hit the panic button
There's rarely a time when you actually really need to hit the panic button
You've worked under some pretty influential figures in both industries
What have you learned from working beneath someone like President Obama or Anna Wintour
I'm very lucky [to have had] the interactions I've had in my career
I started in the Office of Legislative Affairs in the White House during the Clinton Administration
I was an intern in that office and then they hired me — they had hired a lot of former interns — so we were this group of kids who worked for the President's liaison with the Capitol Hill
and maybe it wasn't the fastest-paced time
I was 21 and thought it was the coolest thing ever
to watch C-SPAN and follow legislation and write reports on what happened in the Senate that day
I learned these core tenets of how you work from these people
You respect the people who came before you
I feel like there's a similarity in the fashion business
What I loved about politics [was that] there's always someone who's had your job before you; I knew people going back to the Carter days who had my job before me
and people strive to work hard because you want to live up to this ideal
You should leave [your job] better than you found it
I've learned that you should stand up for what you think and not be afraid to say it
You've got to give people the ability to go out on their own
give them responsibility and let them do it
You've got to be there when they succeed to say great job — and you've got to be there when they fail to pick them up and say
This is what we can do the next time to make it better."
Why did you start the Vogue podcast
What do you think it adds to the Vogue brand
but I got hooked on "Serial" and thought
“We need a podcast at Vogue." At the time we launched
there was no other podcast we saw in the fashion space
so we felt like it was the right moment to do it
and we started [doing it] every other week
We enlisted André Leon Talley
and who has a more distinctive Vogue voice than him
One of my favorite episodes, which I hope we're going to reprise, was [when] we did all of the editors. There's no better fashion education than Grace [Coddington], Phyllis [Posnick], Tonne [Goodman] and Virginia [Smith]. We booked them immediately after Paris [Fashion Week]
put on the microphone and [had them] talk about what [they] saw for the last four weeks
and Apple rated it one of their top podcasts of 2015
I would love to do more; there's a lot of room for growth
I think the podcast listener may be different from the magazine reader
How has the digital space affected media in the time you've been at Vogue
How has your role changed because of Twitter and Instagram
What's become so interesting is that the referrals have changed — social has become the biggest driver
Even in the three and a half years I've been here
What's really exciting to realize is that you may be a magazine reader and never look at us online
you may only read Vogue on Snapchat Discover and never buy a magazine
but people are following us on social media
so clearly they're looking for our content there
and clearly we're creating content that works for them there
One of best lessons I've learned is that all content doesn't fit all streams
It's been incredible to see how there are so many more ways to enter the world of Vogue
and it still means the highest level of quality
And I was so lucky to work with the best of the best in the White House

Lawmakers in Kazakhstan have approved an agreement allowing the United States to use two of the nation’s Caspian Sea ports as transit points for shipping nonmilitary material to Afghanistan
By gaining access to the ports of Aktau and Kuryk
the United States will gain an additional option in circumventing Russia
which has previously also provided transit options for NATO supplies to Afghanistan
Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Kairat Adrakhmanov repeatedly stressed the nonmilitary nature of the goods to be delivered through the route
to eastern Kazakhstan before entering Uzbekistan
which has railway links with northern Afghanistan
Adrakhmanov said that a transit deal has been in place between Kazakhstan and the United States since 2010
More than 700 containers of goods have been delivered over that period
generating 200 million tenge ($625,000) in revenue for local transportation companies
Kazakhstan’s support comes at a timely moment
The United States is engaged in a two-fronted action against two crucial partners in the Afghanistan transit issue
President Donald Trump’s administration has just announced it intends to pursue further sanctions against Russia in a reprisal against alleged interference in the 2016 elections
citizens are already prohibited from dealings with Russian state-run companies like Russian Railways
and these latest advertised moves are only likely to further restrict potential options in transportation cooperation
Pakistan has usually presented the simplest transit option whenever feasible
but problems have regularly cropped up there too
military supplies transit for eight months in 2011-12 after U.S
troops killed dozens of Pakistan soldiers on the Afghan border
U.S. ties with Pakistan have endured yet another setback since January after Washington announced it was suspending what the New York Times has calculated might be around $1.3 billion worth of annual military aid
the snub was accompanied by a tweeted barb from Trump
who accused Pakistan of giving the United States “nothing but lies & deceit
Such is the level of irritation in Islamabad that Trump may even be pushing Pakistan into Russia’s arms
creating an alliance that could severely hamper any Afghanistan strategy
This rapidly devolving situation provides useful context for understanding why Trump seemed so eager to roll out the red carpet for President Nursultan Nazarbayev in January
Trump praised Kazakhstan fulsomely for its “continuous logistical support and access to Afghanistan.”

Kazakhstan hopes to deliver up to 1.5 million tons of oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline in 2023 as part of growing efforts to find export routes bypassing Russia
Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov told reporters on November 10 that the government’s expectation is that annual shipments via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline will in time reach 6-6.5 million tons
Smailov said that Kazakhstan’s export route diversification strategy rests on using tankers from the port of Aktau to feed oil into the Baku-Supsa pipeline
which has its terminus on Georgia’s Black Sea Coast
and trains running along the Baku-Batumi railway line
as well as trains going from the oil-rich region of Atyrau to Uzbekistan and China
“Work is now underway in all these areas to expand and increase the potential for oil exports,” Smailov said
Moving all this oil around will require investment in transportation
which is developing the Tengiz field in the Atyrau region
has doubled the number of rail tank cars at its disposal and has already begun undertaking pilot shipments by train towards Georgia and Uzbekistan
The volume of oil being moved along the alternative routes is still miniscule in relative terms
Kazakhstan sent 54 million tons of oil to Europe through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium route that crosses through Russia for hundreds of kilometers before ending up at the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk
Most of the rest of the 86 million tons that Kazakhstan produced went to China
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is optimistic about the long-term, though. Speaking at a public event in the western Mangystau region on November 7, he said that the volume of oil being transported along the trans-Caspian route through two Kazakhstani ports, Aktau and Kuryk, would eventually increase to 20 million tons per year
He did not specify the timeframe within which that goal would be reached
The issue of logistics is a pressing one since Kazakhstan intends to increase oil output. According to Nurlan Zhumagulov, chief executive of the Union of Oilfield Service Companies, a lobby group, Kazakhstan plans to bring annual production up to 100 million tons by 2025
mainly by increasing output capacity at Tengizchevroil and the Kashagan mega-field
