24 Sep: The Singpho Women Organisation [India]
in collaboration with the Singpho National Council
the All Tai Khamti Singpho Student’s Union
on 23 September to protest the murder of Gamrin Makat
a student of St Paul’s School in Udaipur-4 Mile in Margherita subdivision of Assam’s Tinsukia district
no judicious action has yet been initiated against the perpetrators of the heinous crime
Thousands of Singphos from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam
supported by fellow tribal people, participated in the rally amid the scorching heat to protest the murder
and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation [CBI] probe into the murder
was found hanging at around 5:30 am on 1 August in the hostel verandah of St Paul’s School
while eight other hostellers were present in the hostel
Local residents claimed that the warden was absent
and the eight other hostellers were in the hostel when the incident occurred
and a few other students were fully under the influence of liquor in the hostel when the incident occurred
The school doesn’t provide standard food and accommodation
marched to the office of the Margherita sub- divisional officer (SDO) on Monday to submit a letter to Assam Chief Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma
This led to the situation almost going out of control
the SDO arrived and accepted the letter addressed to the CM
signed by the leaders of various organisations
stated that the nature of the death of the boy was mysterious
The photographs and video clips sent to the CM clearly show that the mouth
hands and legs of the deceased were tied behind him and it was not possible for the boy to hang himself or call for any help
The letter to the Assam chief minister clearly stated that “the death being a case of cold-blooded murder stands strong and the insistence made by Assam Police that it is a case of suicide has no locus standi.”
mental harassment and physical torture been incited upon the poor boy
The statements given by the remaining hostellers are not satisfactory and lack genuineness
Since the warden was absent during the incident
it is suspected that the cook is directly involved,” the letter read
adding that “the Assam Police should stop insisting on painting the murder as a case of suicide
but rather join the dots properly and find answers to contentious questions and deliver a judicious conclusion.”
Besides demanding handing over the case to the CBI,the organisations demanded “open publication of the postmortem report to ensure transparency
besides the evidences and statements recorded.”
The organisations further demanded stringent punishment for all the perpetrators of the murder
and for adequate compensation to the parents of late Gamrin Makat
The letter also demanded reprimanding the Tinsukia deputy commissioner
the Margherita sub-divisional officer (civil)
and the Lekhapani PS OC “for their apathy and negligence towards the death of a tribal student.”
the school authorities failed to share details like the exact number of occupants of the hostel
the recorded statements of the adult and minor suspects
and the material evidence found at the site of the incident has created a strong suspicion and distrust and has brought to light their negligent attitude
the hurry in labelling this incident as suicide by the authorities is not at all acceptable
and hence the public suspect that it was a planned murder staged as suicide,” the organisations said
SWO general secretary Pinna Kitnal Singpho informed that if the Assam chief minister fails to address the issue at the earliest
“other forms of democratic movement will be launched.”
SWO president Pisilu Singpho extended gratefulness to all organisations and their members for actively participating and making the rally a success
She expressed hope that “the contributions made by the Singphos
including fellow tribals from both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh
The Israeli military is ramping up its efforts to forcibly expel Palestinians from northern Gaza
with soldiers systematically raiding schools in the region and marching out the displaced people sheltering there at gunpoint
Israeli forces are separating men from their families and instructing women and children to flee southward
44 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the north of the Strip
which has been subjected to a two-week-long siege and massive ground operation
blocking aid and food access to the region
At least 10 people were killed and 30 others wounded in an Israeli attack on Jabalia Preparatory School in Al-Fawqa area
which was functioning as an Unrwa shelter for displaced people
Another seven Palestinians were killed and dozens more wounded in an Israeli attack on the camp’s besieged Unrwa-affiliated Kreizm school
where displaced people were also sheltering
Eyewitnesses told Wafa that people in Kreizm school were targeted with artillery shelling after they had gathered in preparation to flee
and wounded others as they were attempting to fill drinking water in the Jabalia town
an Israeli strike killed four people near al-Yaman al-Saeed hospital
A video from Israel’s state news broadcaster showed crowds of people expelled from the besieged Jabalia refugee camp attempting to cross a checkpoint
Journalist Sulaiman Ahmed shared the footage and images of the checkpoint
reporting that people not moving toward it are being targeted with "drone and artillery fire"
"Even those following orders are being attacked
Palestinian journalist Hossam Shabat reported that Israeli forces attacked a school in Jabalia
"Then they lined them up and shot anyone who dared to move
Any male over the age of 16 is being detained
tortured and investigated," Shabat said in a post on X
"Many people who are being lined up are sick individuals
and young kids who are being asked to stand in line for hours
nine people were killed and dozens others wounded in an Israeli strike targeting a residential home belonging to the Maqat family
three people were killed and others wounded when Israeli forces targeted the Ghazi al-Shawa school where displaced people were sheltering
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (Unrwa) Chief Phillipe Lazzarini reported that the already dire humanitarian situation in northern Gaza is rapidly deteriorating amid Israel's continued barring of aid
Israeli forces have blocked the entry of food or aid of any kind into northern Gaza since 1 October, significantly increasing the risk of famine for residents
Lazzarini said that the agency's remaining shelters in the region are facing dangerous overcrowding
with some displaced people forced to "live in toilets"
people attempting to flee are getting killed
Missions to rescue people from under the rubble are also being denied," he said in a post on X
"Denying & weaponizing humanitarian assistance to achieve military purposes is a sign of how low the moral compass is."
According to the Palestinian health ministry
the three remaining partially functioning hospitals in the area
Al-Awda and Kamal Adwan hospitals are under Israeli siege
The ministry reported that the hospitals have run out of fuel and medical supplies
According to Medecins San Frontieres (MSF)
including pregnant women and patients recovering from surgeries
are thought to be trapped inside the facilities.
The NGO said that the patients require constant medical treatment and cannot be evacuated.
On 19 October, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, Hossam Abu Safia said in a statement that many of the wounded from an assault on Beit Lahiya
had died due to a severe lack of resources
medical supplies and specialised personnel at the facility
The hospital also announced that it had run out of shrouds used to cover dead bodies
A day later the hospital itself came under attack, with Israeli strikes damaging its water tanks and electricity grid.
On Saturday, Beit Lahia faced heavy bombardment by Israeli forces, resulting in the deaths of at least 87 Palestinians, according to the Ministry of Health. Search efforts are ongoing to locate those still missing under the rubble.

raw materials and ingredients in chewing gum are always changing but their shapes have been limited to sticks
Its Capiva C 03 (a copolymer-resin containing composition) is insoluble in water and the premix can be melted down and blended into a sugar compound in a variety of molds
The raw material lets manufacturers cook chewing-gum-like candy and shape it however they want instead of going through an elaborate mixing process
“We can vary the formulation and the process parameters to make the product harder or softer
But Capiva C 03 gives us greater versatility when it comes to the formulation,” said Capuani
“Another advantage is the cooking process allows formulators to use a number of liquid ingredients that could not be used in the conventional process
“By offering new moldable chewing-gum products
we hope to encourage our customers to bring more variety to the candy aisle without having to neglect classic chewing gum.”
The process also works on an industrial scale
and Wacker has partnered with Bosch Makat Candy Technology
a subsidiary of Bosch Packaging Technology near Cologne
we had to spend very little on additional plant components
So producing a huge variety of shapes is no problem on our existing mogul line,” said Patrick Knoll
who worked on process- engineering issues with Dr
Capuani in the Gum department of Wacker Biosolutions
Bosch Confectionery Technology specializes in developing and constructing mogul lines for large-scale manufacturing of gummy bears
Wacker’s mogul process is suitable for a range of confectionery products
soft candies and fondants – and now for chewing gum
Dr Capuani also talked about creating new flavors for its Candy2Gum products including a chocolate-mint chewing gum, which has chocolate on one side and mint flavor on the other. Wacker now has the technology to incorporate real cocoa, which was not possible with chewing gum before.
Wacker has demonstrated the personalized shapes it can produce for candy, which turns into chewing gum, on its 3D printer at ProSweets 2017.
As gum manufacturers are battling the sluggish category growth by developing new and bold flavors, some makers have gone in the other direction: Innovating the texture, according to a recent blog post penned by Mintel’s director of insight on food and...

The challenging geopolitical situation in the region
has ruptured traditional transport and logistics chains
Kazakhstan has had to actively build new routes for transportation and freight
Measures previously taken to develop the transport and logistics industry has made it possible to solve these problems to some extent
though it still faces many challenges ahead
Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics industry plays an important role in the country’s economy and attracts cargo flows
To transform the country into a transport and transit hub – one of the government’s declared strategic objectives – a number of large-scale measures are being taken today
with investments in the industry of about KZT1.8 trillion (U$4 billion)
about 29 million tons of freight passed through Kazakhstan
the lion’s share of which was transported by rail
railways are slated to lead the country’s transit development
three large-scale projects were launched in Kazakhstan last year: the construction of a railway line bypassing the Almaty station
as well as two other lines – Darbaza-Maktaaral and Bakhty-Ayagoz
more than 1,300 km of new rail lines will be laid
The projects aim not only at increasing transit traffic through Kazakhstan
but also expanding the country’s export potential and removing existing bottlenecks
the industry faces many other tasks to spur transit traffic
establishing competitive tariff rates for the transport of transit freight
the construction and reconstruction of federal and local highways continues
over 10,000 km of road was built or repaired
Such large projects as the BAKAD (Almaty ring road) and the Kandyagash-Makat and Usharal-Dostyk highways were completed
several road projects along federal and regional networks are planned
comprising a total length of about 9,000 km
More attention is to be paid to the quality of the roads under construction
which has been known to raise questions among motorists
Kazakhstan’s maritime transport industry has also seen much development
in the near future the creation of a container hub is planned at the Aktau seaport
along with the reconstruction of its docks and an upgrade of handling equipment
The port of Kuryk is also being developed through the construction of a multi-functional terminal
this will boost the throughput capacity of Kazakhstan’s seaports by 10 million tons
with container capacity rising to 300,000 TEUs per year
This is especially important in the context of the active development of alternative trade routes
in particular the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) and the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC)
The potential of these routes is evidenced by the interest of many foreign players
Note that the World Bank published a report in late November 2023 on the outlook for the TITR until 2030
exploring priority measures that could help countries participating in this multi-modal
rail-sea corridor to transform it into an important and reliable trade route
The country’s airports are also a focus
Shymkent and Aktau airports are planning to attract $1.5 billion of foreign direct investment
which should raise the capacity of their cargo terminals from the current 200,000 to 1 million tons per year and create regional air hubs with a full range of services
A special economic zone for the airports is under consideration
a step that global experience shows will help attract cargo flows
airlines and low-cost carriers from 12 countries have agreed to fly to 13 international airports in Kazakhstan (Astana
thus increasing competition among carriers
and making cities in Kazakhstan more accessible
Transport and logistics are reaching a new level of development in Kazakhstan and becoming one of the priority areas for the government
In the context of the unstable geopolitical situation in the former Soviet Union
Kazakhstan is well positioned to become an important transport and logistics hub between East and West and North and South
and convenient conditions for transporting goods
Editor-in-Chief of industry transportation publications of Kazakhstan
railway magazine “Trans-Express Kazakhstan” and business magazine “Trans Logistics Kazakhstan”

14 Jan: A road rage incident turned into a violent clash between two groups here on Saturday night
forcing the Namsai district administration to impose Section 144 CrPC in the district
a car being driven rashly almost hit the vehicle of one Krutasi Makat
followed the vehicle and intercepted it in the market area here
This reportedly led to group clashes between youths of both groups
A gun was also reportedly fired during the clash
Security forces were rushed to the scene of the clash
and they brought the situation under control
The district administration has imposed Section 144 CrPC
banning gathering of large groups of people
Namsai SP Sangey Thinley informed that the situation is now under control
He informed that 15 persons of both groups (combined) were injured in the incident and were referred to the AMC in Dibrugarh (Assam)
Road blockades were imposed by some groups at the Dirak gate and the Mahadevpur bridge area
the All Tai Khamti Singpho Students’ Union (ATKSSU) has submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner
“The main instigator of the incident
should be detained under the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act
adequate compensation should be paid by the district administration to the injured persons
including one who sustained bullet injury inflicted by the mob instigated by Badal Tanti,” the union demanded
It also sought “correction in the order issued by the DC while imposing Section 144 CrPC.”
“The order states that there was a clash between Tai Khamti Singpho youths and Adivasi youths of Namsai
the reason for the clash was purely personal in nature between Krutasi Makat and Badal Tanti
which was projected as communal at the instigation of Badal Tanti
the 144 CrPC order is required to be corrected and modified by removing the cause of passing of the order as a clash between Tai Khamti Singpho youths and Adivasi youths of Namsai,” the union said.
