“’Kazakh Style’ is finally coming home,” Alimkhanuly, 16-0 (11 KOs), said. “April 5 will be a memorable night as I defend my WBO and IBF world titles against a top opponent. Many fighters turned down this opportunity, so I credit Anauel for accepting the challenge. My goal is to become the undisputed champion, and Anauel [is] in my way. The fans in Kazakhstan and everyone watching worldwide will see something special.”
Though the unbeaten Ngamissengue is well-regarded, this marks a significant step up in class for the 29-year-old and it will be his first encounter over the 12-round championship distance.
"Thank you for this long-awaited opportunity — after almost a year of fighting for a chance, this is the most important moment of my career,” Ngamissengue, 14-0 (9 KOs), said. “I know I’m going into the lion’s den, but I thrive in situations like this. I respect Janibek and everything he’s achieved, but I’m coming to Kazakhstan to crash the party and show the world that I belong at the top.”
The event will be staged by Nomad Promotions, led by Scott Murray, who have ambitions to elevate the profile of boxing in Kazakhstan, a nation with a growing reputation for harvesting fighting talent.
Top Rank’s Bob Arum added: “Zhanibek is a supreme talent and the very best middleweight in the world. He has tremendous support in Kazakhstan, and we are pleased that he’ll have the opportunity to defend his world titles in front of his adoring home fans. Anauel is a tough opponent, but Zhanibek is in a class of his own.”

LONDON – Denzel Bentley hopes to progress towards a rematch with the IBF and WBO middleweight champion Zhanibek Alimkhanuly after victory over Brad Pauls at Wembley Arena.
The 29 year old lost to Alimkhanuly in 2022, and despite winning one of the finest contests staged in Britain in 2024 showed little to suggest he will be more competitive if and when they fight again.
After six rounds Pauls, 31 and the defending British champion, appeared in the ascendancy. Bentley then made sufficient adjustments and recorded a knockdown to deserve the unanimous decision he was rewarded, even if the score of 115-112, more so than those of 117-110 and 116-111, seemed fairest.
In victory Bentley also earned the vacant European title, but if his superior quality proved influential over the course of a competitive contest, he will have to improve considerably more to convincingly challenge the world’s finest middleweight.
Bentley’s advantage in size contributed to him succeeding with right hands and jabs during the opening round, and complementing them with a right to the body.
He absorbed a left to the chin from Pauls in the second, but responded with a counter left to the chin, a jab that backed Pauls up, and an admirably-timed right that then hurt him.
Pauls’ most convincing period started from the third, when his often superior work-rate was most effective. At the expense of one right hand he landed another, and he then landed a left when Bentley’s wild swings missed.
An overhand right and left from Pauls, before he also landed three further lefts, built his sense of momentum in the fourth, and in the fifth he succeeded with successive rights while Bentley struggled with his intensity and grit.
When in the sixth Bentley offered little more than a right from close range after taking another right from Pauls and a further right to the body he looked on course for what had been considered an unlikely defeat.
Bentley instead responded convincingly in the seventh, and to such an extent – he landed a left-right, and made Pauls twice swing and miss before another left-right – he showed he had learned how to read him.
It was in the 10th when a left jab from Bentley forced Pauls to take a knee, after which he struggled under assault from Bentley and to such an extent he increasingly looked on course for his second defeat.
Both fighters were hurt while they traded in the 11th with both of Pauls’ eyes and Bentley’s left eye swelling up. When Paul landed a left, Bentley responded with a right and then a left to the body. A right from Pauls was followed by he, too, landing a left to the body, when perhaps only Bentley’s superior technique kept him in front.
They, similarly, throughout the 12th, struggled to truly seize the momentum as they continued fighting. Bentley, more than Pauls, looked like he believed he had won at the final bell. The scores then confirmed he had done so – in so doing putting his career back on course.
Frank Warren is hoping to tempt Zhanibek Alimkhanuly to the UK for his rematch with Denzel Bentley.
The 29-year-old Bentley impressed on Saturday at Wembley Arena when he earned scores of 117-110, 116-111 and 115-112 to dethrone Brad Pauls as the British middleweight champion, earn the vacant European title, and near being installed as the mandatory challenger to Alimkhanuly’s WBO title.
Bentley travelled to Las Vegas in November 2022 when, via unanimous decision, he lost to Kazakhstan’s Alimkhanuly. His promoter regardless believes that he has since matured as a fighter, and is capable of demonstrating as much in the coming four-to-five months in what will be one of the final significant fights of Queensberry Promotions’ broadcast deal with TNT Sports, before their move to DAZN.
“In an ideal world I’d like to get him here, but like any of these things, you’ve only got a certain percentage of the purse bid to play with if you go to purse bids," Warren told BoxingScene. “He might have to travel – I don’t know. It’ll be within the next four or five months.
“I’m hoping he is struggling at the weight. But I can only look at the fight last time, and he was going into that fight, Denzel, and everybody’s telling him, basically, he’s going to be there to make up the numbers. The first four rounds he was very, very cautious, and he got into the fight, and once he got into the fight he give him a problem. Those earlier rounds were Zhanibek’s, but had he started earlier he could have won that fight.
“He’s a good fighter. But, on his day – on his day – Denzel’s a good fighter. He’s got to be at his best. He’s a handful for anybody; sometimes he fights at the level he’s in with.
“He’s got a good chance. I think it’s a 50-50 fight. He’s been in with him, and he knows he could have won it, so he does fancy the job. He’s had a couple of problems outside the ring, which hopefully they’re all done and dusted, but on his day he’s a handful.”
The victory over Pauls was the most impressive of the five fights Bentley has entered since Alimkhanuly defeated him via two scores of 116-112 and another of 118-110.
“It was a bloody good fight, wasn’t it?” Warren said of Saturday’s main event. “Very competitive. Brad made it competitive, didn’t he? He come to fight – I quite like Brad; he’s a tough old sod – and Denzel, he’s got himself into a position where he’s mandatory challenger.
“That’s where he wants to be. He knows what he’s got in front of him in Zhanibek. Last time around he could have won that fight, but the first four rounds, he just seemed to be feeling him out rather than fighting him. He knows what he’s got in front of him, and it’s a great opportunity for him.”

I can tell you that Denzel had absolutely no hesitation in accepting this fight and Janibek is a name he has mentioned to us on a number of occasions
“I am delighted Denzel is getting this opportunity and happy to be working in tandem with Bob Arum and his team at Top Rank to deliver it for him.”

FIVE QUESTIONS WITH…ZHANIBEK’S MENTOR TAREKTarek Khazbak is a Project Controls Manager based in Sharjah and joined the company four years ago
Why did you decide to become a mentor? After working in the industry for a long time
I think people have a moral obligation to support and pass on their experience to others
Sharing your knowledge with younger people is very important
as it gives them an idea of what to expect in the future
It’s something I find very satisfying. What have you learned from the graduates joining the business?Everyone can learn from their colleagues
and it doesn’t matter how many years of experience they have
which can encourage you to look at a problem or challenge from a different angle
there is always a space for learning. What do you find most rewarding about mentoring?Seeing the person grow – you think of the moment you met them and after a year or two
I’ve seen it a lot with my colleagues and some of them even became Project Controls Managers
You can affect their lives in a positive way
The graduates are subject to a lot of experiences in a short time
It makes me really feel like I’ve accomplished something useful.Did you have a mentor? Not in an official manner
but when I was a planner early in my career there were two people who challenged my way of thinking
I learned a lot from them about technical issues
how to approach problems and how to interact with people
‘What would they do?’What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? One of my colleague’s approaches to life is to always be open
he listens to everyone’s ideas and doesn’t impose his opinion on others; he is then able to reach a conclusion based on everyone’s input
don’t make judgements based on your past experiences
Sometimes you also have to realise that you were wrong and a different approach is better

New Zealand has its latest boxing world title challenger
Andrei Mikhailovich (21-0)
is officially in line to contest a world title after being anointed the IBF mandatory challenger
frustrating quest to earn his title shot - a process that restricted him to two fights in 21 months - Mikhailovich now stands on the cusp of challenging Kazakhstan’s IBF and WBO world title holder Zhanibek Alimkhanuly (15-0) - possibly as early as July
Mikhailovich has, for almost a year, been attempting to square off against Germany’s Denis Radovan for the right to earn a title shot. That fight was postponed multiple times after several injuries and excuses from Radovan’s camp which caused the IBF to eventually lose patience.
Before Mikhailovich’s first-round knockout of Australian veteran Les Sherrington in Sydney two weeks ago, on the Nikita Tszyu undercard, the Kiwi boxer was told a win would cement his status to challenge for the IBF crown.
His coach, Isaac Peach, has confirmed the IBF has since followed through on that promise. “As of today, Andrei is mandatory challenger for the world title,” Peach told Newstalk ZB.
“We were meant to fight for the IBF eliminator on December 16, then the German pulled out. They rescheduled for May 11. They pulled out again, so the IBF basically said take a fight and we’ll mandate you. No Limit promoter George Rose found an opponent, Andre knocked him out, and yeah, as they said, we’re now mandated. World title time.”
Peach has since been working with Mikhailovich’s Australian promoters No Limit in an attempt to fast track the title shot. “The champion’s Zhanibek [Alimkhanuly] and he’s got a flight scheduled for the July 14, which is without an opponent. So, we’re going to be doing everything we can to get that date. No Limit are in America now, so they’ll be discussing that right now. Hopefully, we’ll have some news in the next week.”
Mikhailovich entered camp with Peach last Sunday, aiming to have 10 weeks of training before contesting the IBF and WBO world titles.
“I’m elated but I’m not surprised either because I was born for this. This is what I do. I’ve been doing this for years now,” the 26-year-old Mikhailovich said. “People will be telling me, ‘Oh this is such a big deal, such a big moment.’ Nah, it feels natural. It feels like I was born to do this.
“I feel really excited but at the end of the day it’s just another dude, it’s just another fight, and this is what I do.
“My job as an athlete is to do my due diligence and be ready for whatever comes. So, if it’s in 10 weeks, it’s in 10 weeks, and that’s what we’re going to prep for.”
Alimkhanuly finished previously unbeaten German Vincenzo Gualtieri last October to add the WBO alongside his IBF title. Erislandy Lara (WBA) and Jermall Charlo (WBC) are the other middleweight world champions. Despite the significant step up in class, Mikhailovich remains supremely confident of his abilities.
“He’s a good fighter. Anyone in the top 10 in the world is good, and I’m obviously mandated so I’m pretty good myself. He’s a good fighter. He calls himself the monster but I’m Scooby-Doo and I chase monsters so that’s what it is,” Mikhailovich said.
“My attitude is always to dominate, take over and control. That’s all it is - world domination. Every fight I go into is all roads end at this. It’s the same thing; I keep my good attitude, I train properly, I train hard, I eat properly and it’s all good. I do what I do. I just listen to my coaches and I do my job.
“I learned a lot about myself and the people around me over the last year or so. I‘m just happy that I’m back and that this opportunity has finally presented itself. I’ve always known, from day dot, that this was going to happen, and now it’s finally here it’s everything to me.”
Charting a path to a world title from New Zealand isn’t easy. Peach is proud Mikhailovich is now guaranteed to have his shot on the big stage. Now the work really begins.
“We’ve been doing this for seven years or something for this point,” Peach said. “So Andrei is born ready for this. This is what we do it for. I wouldn’t be doing it with Andrei if I didn’t think he was going to be winning the world title, and it’s time.”
The Sport Integrity Commission has sought advice from Interpol on organised crime.

Four years ago in London Erislandy Savón, bearer of one of the most famous surnames in Cuban boxing, did not quite deliver for his uncle Felix in the super-heavyweight division against Anthony Joshua – although some good judges thought the Watford novice fortunate to win their first-round bout and go on to get gold.
Joshua, of course, is unbeaten as a professional, owns a version of the world title and is well on his way to being a millionaire; Savón is still punching for free, this time down at the 91kg limit. And this time another Great Britain opponent of limited experience stood in his way, bravely too.
There was no doubt whom the Brazilians wanted to win, roaring: “Cuba! Cuba!” throughout, but the underdog paid them no heed. He launched heavy jabs and right crosses at his celebrated opponent without much regard for the quality return fire and, inevitably Savón took a unanimous decision.

The rhythm of amateur boxing – and that of an Olympic tournament, as it happens – is about as far removed from professional scrapping as Rio is from London. There is an inbuilt almost conveyor belt air about proceedings, the contestants ushered on and off the stage with tick-tock efficiency to take their bruises and then leave smiling or full of regret.
Joshua Kelly, a young man in a hurry who glides round a ring with hands down but loaded with the urgency demanded of the three by three-minute rounds format, got the tempo exactly right in his welterweight contest against Walid Mohammed.
The Sunderland stylist – who revealed later he had spent two days in bed with a virus – was as pleasing on the eye as he was hurtful on the eyes of his bemused target from Cairo, and fully deserved the 30-27 margin each of the three judges bestowed on him.
A few months ago, just after Dr Wu, the head of AIBA, announced that pros could box at these Olympics, Chris Eubank Sr phoned Robert McCracken inquiring whom he should contact to get his boy on the plane to Rio. McCracken, the director of coaching for the 12-strong British team, informed him the squad was all but picked and, anyhow, Antony Fowler had secured the middleweight spot his son wanted. Eubank, no doubt, knew that – but he got a few headlines out of it for Junior.
So the Liverpudlian Fowler, Robbie’s 25-year-old cousin, had something to prove when he stepped into the ring here against a Scrabble gift from Kazakhstan, Zhanibek Alimkhanuly. After nine minutes of pain and disappointment he was one of the dejected, dumped in the second round and heavily outscored in a desperate finish.
Fowler, bleeding from the nose and a cut on his forehead, stuck to his task but needed a knockout in the third. Drained and anxious, he could not find the required ammunition. The Kazakh was well worth his victory, by two margins of 30-26 and one of 30-27.
“I knew when I saw the draw I was up against it,” Fowler said. “He was world champion a few years back. I thought I won the first round, definitely, then he caught me with a shot. I didn’t see it. After that I was chasing the game. It wasn’t meant to be. I’ve lost to a few southpaws the last few years.”
Could Eubank have done better? Maybe not. Alimkhanuly looks as hard to beat as he is to spell.
In a night of boxing that took place at the Stockton Arena in California
Alimkhanuly - the current WBO middleweight champion - started the fight by analyzing his opponent and throwing some warning punches before the bell rang to send them to the break
But the chance to define the contest came two minutes into the second round when Alimkhanuly's wild uppercut put Butler in severe trouble and he fell to the canvas and had to gather strength to get back to his feet
the referee Jack Reese decided to give him a vote of confidence and let the fight continue
but Alimkhanuly had already smelled blood and like a shark
And he managed to send him back to the canvas
Steven tried to recover and buy time in a clinch but soon gave the champion room to finish him off again

Abdulla Mubarak and Oskar Jaskari are no strangers to IMMAF championships
The two will look to put to use their previous experiences and finish the tournament with a medal
Away from the familiar faces, there will be plenty of athletes looking to make a statement at the first time of asking at an IMMAF Championship. Malaysia’s Alexander Lew enters the championship on a five fight winning streak. Russian neutral athlete Shakhban Gapizov will no doubt be looking to replicate Gadzhimurad Zavaev’s success at 135lbs
Daniel Bainbridge & Movsar Ibragimov have also racked up impressive streaks ahead of their debut at these championships. All World Championships action can be viewed live on immaf.tv
