A pipsqueak of a country, Liechtenstein snuggles between Switzerland and Austria, among mountain ranges that rise steep and rugged above the Rhine. Besides the sheer novelty value of visiting one of the world's tiniest and richest countries, Liechtenstein is pure fairy-tale stuff – a mountain principality governed by an iron-willed monarch, embedded deep in the Alps and crowned by turreted castles.

The exhibition spotlights how artists since the 1960s have explored public space
questioning and appropriating it and opening up new spaces for meaning
Streets are more than mere places of transit
On the street invites visitors to rediscover these spaces – as places of encounter
where people make their feelings publicly known and where social circumstances – for example life on the street – become visible
How does public space influence our thinking
actions and being – and how do we actively shape it through our presence
The history of modernism is intimately linked to the "neutral" space of art – the "white cube"
artists have been consciously breaking away from this concept
Abandoning the protected institutional setting
they take to the street – be it as a site for radical and poetic actions or as a source of inspiration for their works
this stance has also redefined the relationship between private and public space
On the street takes a closer look at these diverse relationships – between art
exemplify the complex treatment of their topics
Each space begins with artworks by pioneers of the 1960s
The exhibition is accompanied by a reader containing a DIN-A2 poster with a full-page image and text in German and English for each artist represented

This wine is produced annually in extremely limited quantities—only two barriques and one tonneau were made of the 2020 vintage
The wine exhibits refined toast influences and a mineral character attributed to its steep
Krebiehl praised its concentrated flavors and lingering finish
the wine already demonstrates “exquisite Pinot quality.”

Aarau conceded a 2:2 equalizer against Vaduz in stoppage time on Friday evening and had to absorb the next setback in the race for promotion
the sparks flew in the players' tunnel
After a mega-winning streak of nine consecutive victories between December and the beginning of March
the Aargau side have now drawn six times in a row
For a long time there was a duel at the top of the table with FC Thun
but now the Bernese Oberland side have pulled away and have a six-point lead over FCA
it looked for a long time like Aarau would win against Vaduz
but in the 94th minute Denis Simani scored with his head to make it 2:2 for the visitors
One Aarau player in particular was on edge afterwards: Raúl Bobadilla
As the Swiss Football League announced on Tuesday
the disciplinary judge in the SFL's match operations department has opened proceedings against Bobadilla
The reason for this is an incident with an FC Vaduz player after Friday's match
the FCA striker waited in the players' tunnel after the game for Simani
The two eventually came to blows and a scuffle ensued
Bobadilla and Simani had to be separated by members of the staff
it's always like that here in Aarau"
said Simani just moments before in an interview on blue Sport
The fact that the Vaduz defender was able to finish the game at all is surprising
The Swiss-Albanian dual national could - perhaps even should - have been sent off shortly before the break after a rude tackle
Simani had already seen a yellow card just a few minutes earlier
The sparks between Simani and Bobadilla were already flying on the pitch
with the two throwing foul language at each other in addition to fierce tackles
the hot-tempered Uruguayan was shown a yellow card in the closing stages
but referee Mirel Turkes showed mercy before justice: The Vaduz professional was allowed to play on - and scored the equalizer shortly afterwards
Simani celebrated by turning directly towards Bobadilla and celebrating in front of the Aarau striker
According to the "Aargauer Zeitung"
this was not the only unsportsmanlike act committed by the 33-year-old on Good Friday
"There are reports from the Aarau environment that there were other gross acts of unsportsmanlike conduct on the pitch - Simani is said to have spat at Bobadilla during the game," the newspaper reports
this cannot be verified on the basis of the TV images
Simani not only got off scot-free on Friday
Proceedings were only opened against Bobadilla because the report by referee Turkes states that only the Aarau striker made a misstep
It is not yet known whether Bobadilla will now face a lengthy ban
the 37-year-old will miss the next game next Friday in Schaffhausen anyway due to a yellow card
Embassy Bern showcases strong bonds with Liechtenstein
In the dynamic landscape of international diplomacy
government to not one but two nations—Switzerland and Liechtenstein
the principality’s remoteness from Bern—more than three hours by a combination of train and bus—can pose challenges for outreach to Liechtenstein
as the geographic distance can complicate in-person engagement efforts
Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein Scott C
Miller and 22 members of the embassy team visited Liechtenstein’s capital city
for a two-day visit affectionately nicknamed Pop-Up Embassy
Miller found the Pop-Up Embassy model to be an effective mechanism to demonstrate the importance of their bilateral relationship despite the embassy’s lack of a day-to-day physical presence in Liechtenstein
The event was a cost-effective way to bring key deliverables to fruition and notably improve relations with an already strong
the two-day event was enthusiastically received by the leaders and people of Liechtenstein
Miller met with the entire senior leadership of Liechtenstein
Section heads and team members from the political/economic
and consular sections and regional security and legal attaché offices met with key contacts
solidifying trust and building credibility through these interactions
The focal point of the Pop-Up Embassy was a reception at the winery of Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein
attended by key Liechtenstein contacts and senior government officials
Prime Minister Daniel Risch made reference to a German proverb
“Einmal ist keinmal,” which translates to “Once is never.” He used this saying to reflect on the initial skepticism surrounding the first Pop-Up Embassy event in 2023
which some perceived as a pleasant but likely one-time event that would not foster a lasting exchange between the United States and Liechtenstein
the embassy laid the groundwork for a new tradition
Risch expressed his hope that this tradition would continue for many years to come
serving as a testament and symbol to the enduring relationship between the two nations
The Pop-Up Embassy event also provided the perfect backdrop to announce two major policy achievements: a reduction in student visa fees for Liechtenstein citizens and a bilateral memorandum of understanding (MOU) on apprenticeships to enable the United States to learn lessons from
the Liechtenstein model of trade and professional training
The ambassador announced the visa reciprocity fee reduction in his meetings with Liechtenstein leaders and amplified the message in interviews with the local press
The embassy’s goal is to encourage more Liechtenstein students to participate in short-term language and semester exchange programs
which are popular in Switzerland but not yet in Liechtenstein
The MOU on apprenticeships will facilitate mobility and exchange between the United States and Liechtenstein and contribute to workforce development in both countries
As a direct result of the coordination with the Departments of Labor
the interagency is expanding its SelectTalentUSA pilot program to allow multinational companies from Liechtenstein to establish apprenticeship programs at their U.S
The public diplomacy section (PDS) seized on opportunities during the Pop-Up Embassy to increase face-to-face interaction with the people of Liechtenstein
One highlight of the program was a visit to the recently accredited University of Liechtenstein
the country’s sole institution of higher learning
The ambassador met with the new rector to discuss future cooperation and led a roundtable discussion with students interested in studying in the United States
The desire to collaborate further was evident when one university representative
who participated in an International Visitor Leadership Program last summer
colleges with which the university could partner
the PDS EducationUSA advisor and the consular section chief gave joint presentations on studying in the United States at the university and a local high school
and opportunities for international students
Students at the presentations expressed great interest in studying in the United States and said they appreciated learning about the available opportunities
the consular team interacted with American citizens
Liechtenstein citizens interested in traveling to the United States
and government contacts from the Liechtenstein Passport and Migration Office
Thanks to a successful PDS meeting with the National Art Museum during the 2023 event
the museum provided space for the embassy to interact with locals interested in meeting the team
Consular officers provided services to American citizens
and the embassy team—including the ambassador
and the public affairs officer—engaged with guests and answered questions
with some traveling up to three hours to meet the embassy team
American artist Dan Peterman’s Civilian Defense Vaduz sculpture was on display in the museum space
further demonstrating the strong cultural exchange with Liechtenstein
All of these efforts were highlighted by a successful media campaign
Radio Liechtenstein interviewed the ambassador a week before the event to emphasize the strong bilateral relationship and to preview the Pop-Up Embassy.
In an interview with the business newspaper Wirtschaft Regional in Vaduz
Miller announced the reduction in visa fees and the apprenticeship MOU signing
Liechtenstein’s popular television station
covered the ambassador and embassy team during various meetings and engagements and aired a nearly seven-minute segment highlighting the impact of the Pop-Up Embassy event
The overwhelmingly positive media engagement advanced U.S
political messages through local and social media

Same-sex couples in Liechtenstein can finally marry after the country’s new law legalizing marriage equality took effect on January 1
The law, which passed in May of 2024
with 24 of 25 members of Liechtenstein’s parliament in favor of it
was supported by the ruling parliamentary coalition
including the conservative-leaning Progressive Citizens’ Party and the center-left Patriotic Union
At the time, Daniel Seger, the spokesperson for the Progressive Citizens’ Party, said lawmakers felt social pressure to pass the law. A 2017 online poll conducted by the Liechtensteiner Vaterland found that 69% of citizens supported permitting same-sex couples to marry
Liechtenstein was the last German-speaking country in Europe to legalize same-sex marriage, with Germany, Austria, and Switzerland officially enacting the practice in 2017
In a Wednesday morning post on X
congratulated Liechtenstein on the law’s enactment
“This milestone is a testament to the dedication and advocacy of countless individuals who worked tirelessly for equality,” the post read
Congratulations to 🇱🇮 on the enactment of same-sex marriage, effective as of today! This milestone is a testament to the dedication and advocacy of countless individuals who worked tirelessly for equality. Wishing everyone a joyful and inclusive start to the New Year! 🌈✨ pic.twitter.com/ZbG5Vd4tOf

The U.K. Embassy in Bern also posted similar praise for the law
everywhere should be free to love whom they love.”
The country of roughly 40,000 people first allowed same-sex couples to enter civil unions beginning in 2011
of the same rights as married heterosexual couples
Under the new law, those who entered civil unions and registered them can now go through an administrative process to convert them into marriages. As reported by LGBTQ Nation
only 43 same-sex partnerships were registered between 2011 and 2022
The law’s enactment makes Liechtenstein the 22nd country in Europe
The list of European countries that currently allow same-sex marriage are:
The countries that recognize civil unions are:
Jared Polis signed a law repealing the state's statutory ban on same-sex marriage
just over five months after Colorado voters repealed the state's constitutional ban on recognizing such unions

Lorena Garcia (D-Adams Co.) and Brianna Titone (D-Arvada)

the same year voters approved prohibiting same-sex nuptials

The number of European heads of state who still live in actual castles is vanishingly small—much like the principality of Liechtenstein itself
This tiny country, about 62 square miles, the same size as Washington D.C.
is ruled over by the Prince of Liechtenstein
whose family has lived in Vaduz Castle off and on—currently on—for roughly 400 years
The schloss (German for "castle") sits on an alpine hillside above the town of Vaduz
and can be seen from every location in town
While the interior is closed to visitors, it's easy to walk around the castle, and admire the ancient construction and stunning mountain views. If you're curious about what the inside looks like, a short film shown in the Princely Theatre (Altes Kino) in the town below the castle hosts an impressive tour through the interior of the schloss
hosted by His Serene Highness the Prince himself
It was originally built in the early 1200s as a fort
and it was first mentioned in documents in 1322
The castle sits along a winding road above the town of Vaduz
It's easy to park along the side of the road and walk up to the castle. An additional 15-20 minute drive up the road brings you to the small town of Malbun
which hosts Liechtenstein's only ski resort
A cheap (10 franc) and quick ride up the chairlift provides an incredible view of the small alpine country and the surrounding mountains

Kollabor is the offering for small children and their adult companions: a space where art can be experienced hands-on
Children aged 0 to 4 and their accompanying adults are cordially invited back to the side-light gallery
A place has been set up there that enables encounters with art and free creative play and allows small children to discover their surroundings with all of their senses
the sculpture Civilian Defense Vaduz by American artist Dan Peterman has been the centre point of this space
the sculpture Civilian Defense Vaduz will be accompanied by artworks designed by Chantal Küng
the artist orientated herself on the concept of open-ended play (toys) and researched playscapes and playgrounds in art
she created oversized objects that appeal to all the senses: they can be touched
Open play aims to give people the opportunity to explore art in a playful and sensual way
Ana Lupas created fabric and wool sculptures for children in the 1970s
Pictures of these works will be on show in the side-light gallery parallel to the exhibition Ana Lupas: Intimate space – Open gaze (1 November 2024 – 16 March 2025)
cultural experiences and encounters with education are essential for a child's development
Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein intends to contribute to aesthetic education in the field of visual arts and thus to implementation of UN children's rights from early childhood
The name kollabor reveals another of the Kunstmuseum's main objectives: to enable and encourage collaborative processes
That means working together with individuals
learning from one another and engaging in open-ended experiments
The topics and modes of use enabled in the kollabor are developed in a collaborative process of learning and working together with children
(The project is sponsored by the Binding Foundation)

Pass the imposing medieval Burg Gutenberg on the Liechtenstein Trail and more with this guide
Visiting Liechtenstein is like stepping into a bedtime story, with cows grazing in grassy meadows, mountains that touch the clouds and a turreted castle on a hill inhabited by a prince and princess. Europe’s smallest country is located between Switzerland and Austria
with the Rhine River running down the middle
Despite the notable influence of its neighbors
Liechtenstein has a character and charm that is all its own.
here are twelve top things to do in Liechtenstein
where Liechtenstein’s 25-member Parliament convenes.
Planning tip: Although much of Vaduz can be squeezed into one day if you’re pressed for time
allowing a couple of days is a wise choice to fully experience the city.
Atop a hill above the capital sits the turreted medieval castle of Schloss Vaduz (Vaduz Castle)
the residence of the prince of Liechtenstein
Although the castle grounds are closed to the public
you can still see the former fortress up close
is dotted with historical information about the royal family with panoramic views of the entire country.
Planning tip: As the summer months draw to an end
the prince hosts a fireworks party at Schloss Vaduz on August 15 to celebrate Liechtenstein’s National Day
and a reception in the princely rose garden welcomes the public for a rare glimpse at the castle grounds
Overlooking the prince’s vineyards is the Michelin-starred restaurant Torkel
the historic building underwent renovations in 2021 to highlight the medieval remnants with modern comfort and design
blending features like the preserved wine press with contemporary decor to create a timeless ambiance
The menu is driven by quality and seasonality presented in the restaurant’s signature style
Book a reservation for lunch or dinner to enjoy a meal fit for a prince.
Planning tip: If spending the night in Vaduz, consider staying at Park Hotel Sonnenhof
this boutique hotel piles on the luxury with its plush rooms
The world’s tiniest winemaking nation, Liechtenstein has been dabbling in viticulture for the past 600 years – long before it became a country. Sunny slopes, limey soils and warm föhn (foehn) winds make grape-growing conditions ideal. Clamber up through the flower-draped vineyards of Vaduz and you reach the Hofkellerei
the prince of Liechtenstein’s wine cellars
Delve down to the atmospherically vaulted cellar for a tasting of berry-forward pinot noir reds and crisp
Located in the heart of Vaduz, the Princely Collections, which include crown jewels, Fabergé eggs and other treasures, are on display at the Schatzkammer (Treasure Chamber)
the collection draws visitors from around the world to admire the craftsmanship in each masterpiece
works of art studded with precious materials
opulent gifts to the rulers of Liechtenstein
lunar rocks and even the first postage stamp issued by the country as you peruse the Treasure Chamber’s dazzling exhibits
Planning tip: Stop by the Liechtenstein Center next door to the Schatzkammer for information about Liechtenstein and to get a souvenir passport stamp
while the nearby Walserhaus is a 400-year-old house furnished in 19th-century fashion
North of Treisenberg is the hair-raisingly high Fürstensteig trail
one of the most famous paths in the Rätikon mountains
The approximately 6.4km (4-mile) trail takes about 2.5 hours
climbing through tranquil pastures and mountain pines before ascending to spectacular close-up views of the razor-edge Drei Schwestern (Three Sisters) peaks
Planning tip: Weather conditions may affect access to the route
Plan ahead and check the local information center for the most up-to-date details.
For views rippling across the Rätikon Alps
bed down in a bunk at Pfälzerhütte in the Naaftal Valley
On an eyrie-like perch atop 2108m (6916ft)-high Bettlerjoch saddle
this stone hut is terrific for striking out into the surrounding alpine wilderness
with high-level trails threading into the remote mountains
hard-core rock climbing on nearby peaks and eye-level encounters with wildlife
including whistling marmots and elusive ibex.
Planning tip: Mountain bikers can tackle steep ascents and exhilarating descents on the 9.6km (6-mile)
the 1602m (5259ft)-high resort of Malbun feels – in the nicest possible sense – like the end of the world
When the flakes fall on its dark timber chalets and the pearl-tipped peaks of the Rätikon Alps
Chairlifts wing skiers and boarders up to Sareis at 199m (656ft) and over 22km (14 miles) of slopes
there are pine-scented winter walking trails to crunch along – the prettiest and most popular being the 4.8km (3 miles)
Or glide in quiet exhilaration along cross-country trails in the Valüna Valley
then grab a toboggan and dash down through the snow under a brilliant frieze of stars.
with bell-jangling cows grazing flowery meadows
marmots popping out of burrows to give a little whistle
and hiking trails swinging joyously into the heights
which leads up to the cross-topped summit of Augstenberg (2358m/7739ft) and wows with arresting views over Austria
Nature takes center stage at Ruggeller Riet
a marshy refuge near the northern tip of Liechtenstein
Bring binoculars for the wildlife-rich peatlands
marshes and moors of the Ruggeller Riet nature reserve
where storks flock en masse when the blue Siberian iris blooms in late May and early June
The preserve encompasses 220 acres along the Rhine River
A circular loop takes walkers past rock caves and peat bogs to an inland canal
for a comprehensive look at the rich biodiversity hosted throughout the preserve.
Planning tip: Schedule your visit in late May or early June to see the Siberian iris blooms cover the meadows with a wash of blue
and catch a glimpse of the rare birds that nest there.
Liechtenstein is tiny and easy to get around
Bikes and e-bikes are a brilliant means of getting around on the flat western side
Bring or rent a bike for a day or two exploring Vaduz on the Liechtenstein Rhine Valley Trail
or tackle the mountain trails for a more challenging adventure
there’s the Drei-Länder cycling tour dipping into three countries
With multiple itineraries available for pleasure riders and for more advanced cyclists
each route highlights the natural beauty of the Alpine region
The best way to acquaint yourself with this pocket-sized nation is by hitting the 75km (47-mile) Liechtenstein Trail
which kicks off in castle-topped Balzers on the Swiss border in the south
and ends in Schaanwald snug against Austria in the north
this trail has moments to make your heart sing

Following a dismal display in Derry last weekend
St Pat’s returned home with a point to prove
launching himself into a crunching challenge on Kosovo international Lorik Emini
who was forced off the pitch from the blow.
Boosted by a first start for Zak Elbouzedi
the Saints opened the affair with an early lead.

with Palmer being hacked down by Slimani in a dangerous area.
with Vaduz keeper Benjamin Buchel expecting a curled effort into the top right corner
dropping it into the far corner to give his side the lead after just five minutes.

It wasn’t long before the duo combined to double the lead
with Palmer nicking the ball deep in the opposition half from Emini
who slotted his effort past Buchel on 17 minutes.
The visitors brought a physicality that matched the Saints
with Mulraney and Lennon both picking up knocks from heavy challenges
Tom Owen didn’t seem shy in dishing out the cards
with Lorik Emini and Mischa Beeli all picking up yellows in the first period.
Any half chances the visitors could muster were yet to reach the new signing
with Joe Redmond and Tom Grivosti working well to consistently halt the Vaduz attack.
They were also unlucky to have not netted a third
with Grivosti and Forrester both coming close throughout the half
The early stages of the second half proved to be slightly different for Anang
the keeper was forced into a few sweeping actions.
with his footwork proving too much for Vaduz to deal with
Krauchi had picked up another booking for the visitors for dragging the midfielder by the shirt.
With Pat’s continuing to make inroads throughout the half
Vaduz started to quietly grow into the game
they nabbed one back after an error at the back allowed Italy native Danilo Del Toro to weakly poke it past Anang with 25 minutes to go
The goal allowed Vaduz to grab a foothold in the game
The free-flowing attack seen in the first half from the hosts was suddenly stifled
The visitors came close to grabbing an equaliser through substitute Javier Navarro
whose effort was well saved by Anang.
Despite the positive displays from Palmer and Mulraney
they were subbed as tired legs started to show
Aaron Bolger and Jason McLelland replaced the stars of the show
with the decision paying off quickly.
The Saints were able to restore their two-goal lead through a Joe Redmond header
with the defender doing well to peel off and attack the incoming ball from a Chris Forrester free kick.
The substitutes seemed to replenish their offensive efforts
with Pat's almost grabbing a fourth in the closing minutes
Aaron Bolger's effort was well kept out by Buchel
A late scuffle between the sides after a heavy challenge broke out
with Vaduz's Liridon Berisha picking up a yellow for an unnecessary challenge at the halfway line
Full Time: St Patrick’s Athletic 3-1 FC Vaduz
Romal Palmer of St Patrick's Athletic celebrates scoring his side's second goal in the Europa Conference League second qualifying round second leg match against FC Vaduz in Lichtenstein
The 350-strong visitors from Dublin were the happiest people in Liechtenstein as St Patrick's Athletic completed their European mission and got the result in Vaduz they needed to advance to the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League

St Pat's will move home from their Richmond Park base to take on Sabah in Tallaght Stadium in the home leg next Thursday
There was an early scare for the Saints when Nicolas Hasler went close for Vaduz
while a free-kick for Jake Mulraney after seven minutes was a decent opportunity for the visitors
but he was unable to repeat his feat of a week earlier as his effort was saved
There was genuine concern for the Dublin club on 20 minutes when Vaduz scored
A challenge by Axel Sjoberg on Lorik Emini led to a penalty and while keeper Joseph Anang got a touch to the spot-kick from Fabrizio Cavegn
The home side almost got another on 25 minutes
but the nerves of the away fans were eased on 28 minutes when Elbouzedi scored his first goal for the club
as his run from the left had Vaduz reeling and when he crossed into the box
Elbouzedi was unmarked and struck with his left foot
and Anang was needed to save an effort from Javi Navarro in first-half injury time
Vaduz clearly needed something to get back into the tie and there were moments of concern for the visitors after the break
but there was blow for Pat's on 48 minutes when key midfielder Chris Forrester was forced off due to injury
Vaduz tried to up the tempo and had a good spell around the hour mark
while Saints boss Kenny will be puzzled as to why he was booked by the Armenian referee
The home side looked like they would make the closing stages interesting when they made it 2-1 on the night on 76 minutes
a shot which took a deflection off a Saints defender and past Anang
But Pat's were freshened up by their bench and it was one of the subs
who made the Saints' second goal of the night and fifth of the tie on 80 minutes
a great run from Leavy who crossed and found Romal Palmer unmarked and free to score his first goal for the club
That sucked away the energy from a Vaduz side who had threatened to push on and claim the goal needed to take the tie closer to extra time
to control the last 10 minutes of normal time and the six added minutes
Pat's must now gather their thoughts for Sunday's league tie at home to an in-form Sligo Rovers while also beginning the scouting work on their Azerbaijani opponents in the next round

20 that the pope had accepted Archbishop Wolfgang Haas’ resignation as the Archbishop of Vaduz
an archdiocese created specifically for him in 1997
who was obliged to submit his resignation after he turned 75 years of age Aug
has overseen the Church in Liechtenstein for more than 25 years
The Vaduz-born prelate originally served as the bishop of the Swiss Diocese of Chur
But following a breakdown of relations within the diocese
he was appointed as the head of the newly created Vaduz archdiocese
which was formed out of Chur’s territory and extends to Liechtenstein’s borders
Vaduz is the capital of Liechtenstein, a mountainous microstate sandwiched between Switzerland and Austria
is a constitutional monarchy ruled by Prince Hans-Adam II
More than 70% of the population is Catholic
A supporter of the Traditional Latin Mass, Haas announced in 2021 that the Vaduz archdiocese would not be taking part in the global synodal process launched by Pope Francis
He said that the archdiocese was so small that its roughly 28,000 Catholics were already able to discuss issues with one another and the synodal process risked “being ideological.”
Catholics belonging to the Association for an Open Church, a local group founded in 1998, decided to hold their own synodal listening sessions, producing a report that Haas dismissed as being motivated by Church politics
In a Sept. 20 farewell message to members of the Vaduz archdiocese
the outspoken archbishop said: “Looking back on my term of episcopal office
I am well aware of my personal inadequacies
indeed of many shortcomings and limitations
I humbly and trustingly leave the judgment on this matter to the mercy of the just Eternal Judge.”
I can say that I did not want to harm anyone
Perhaps at times I simply did not realize that this or that word or behavior might have hurt
I ask for forbearance and forgiveness from all those who have experienced or felt something like this.”

The Vatican said Wednesday that the pope had named Bishop Benno Elbs
head of the neighboring Diocese of Feldkirch in Austria
as Vaduz’s apostolic administrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis (“the see being vacant and at the disposition of the Holy See”)
Unlike Haas, Elbs is reportedly an advocate of married priests, female deacons, and the blessing of same-sex couples
Commenting on his appointment, Elbs said: “We live in challenging times
It is with this inner attitude that I would like to begin my service as apostolic administrator in the Archdiocese of Vaduz and thank already today all those who accompany me on this path
“Pope Francis means nothing else when he wants to lead the Church on a synodal path: Traveling together
He added that he hoped to “walk a part of the way with the people of the Archdiocese of Vaduz” in a spirit of trust in God
Catholics in Liechtenstein questioned whether the Vatican would name a replacement or reintegrate the Vaduz archdiocese into the Diocese of Chur or another neighboring diocese
But during an April visit to Liechtenstein, the Vatican’s “foreign minister” Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher reportedly rejected speculation that the Vaduz archdiocese would be suppressed when Haas’ tenure ended and said that a good pastor would be named as his successor
Catholic media have speculated that the late Benedict XVI’s private secretary Archbishop Georg Gänswein
who is currently living in Germany without an assignment
Haas’ tenure has been marked by clashes with Liechtenstein’s political establishment over same-sex marriage and proposals to alter the country’s Church-state relationship. The constitution enshrines Catholicism as the state religion
A consultation period on a draft Church-state law in Liechtenstein ended in August
The proposed law would change the present situation
in which only the Catholic Church is recognized by the state or public law
while other religious communities operate under private law
Proponents say the law would establish a new framework in which religious communities are treated equally, without severing historic ties between the Catholic Church and the state
Haas said that he hoped to spend his remaining years “primarily in more monastic seclusion.”
“This offers me an increased opportunity to continue to ask for God’s blessing and the special assistance of Mary
the main patroness of our archdiocese,” he said
“I have also promised this to the apostolic administrator appointed by the pope
to whom I wish a good reception and the success of his mission in this country.”
“Together we want to pray fervently for a replacement pleasing to God for the vacant archbishop’s see of Vaduz.”
The Vaduz archdiocese also published a Sept. 15 letter from Haas to Elbs.
Haas told the Austrian bishop that he had offered his resignation to the pope in a letter dated Aug. 7, his 75th birthday. He personally presented the letter Aug. 15 to the apostolic nuncio, who told him Aug. 29 that it had been accepted.
Haas said that he met with Elbs Sept. 6 at his residence in Schellenberg, “and had a clarifying conversation in a brotherly spirit, during which I was able to discuss a number of questions with you.”
The archbishop added that, following his retirement, he would “not respond to any inquiries from domestic or foreign media representatives.”
“Thus, as has been the case for years, I will not give any interviews or participate in any media events (press conferences, etc),” he said.

Archbishop Wolfgang Haas, who led the archdiocese from 1997 until his resignation in September at the age of 75, declined to celebrate the annual Mass in 2023. He announced the decision after the parliament passed a motion in November 2022 calling on the government to introduce a bill legalizing same-sex marriage
Haas said that the annual Mass before the opening of parliament in 2023 “no longer makes sense in view of the parliamentary behavior of the vast majority of our members of parliament in an essential matter of Christian ethics.”
Liechtenstein’s Prime Minister Daniel Risch said in September 2023
near the end of a consultation on the proposed changes
that he believed that “marriage for all” would “come very soon.”
According to the principality’s constitution
new laws become valid after receiving parliament’s assent and the reigning prince of Liechtenstein’s approval
If the prince does not sanction a law within six months
Any law that the parliament does not declare to be urgent may also be put to a popular vote
who leads the Feldkirch diocese over the border in Austria
said that he did not want the annual Mass to be dependent on the actions of the principality’s 25 members of parliament
“The members of the parliamentary groups have asked me to do this,” he told Austria’s Kronen Zeitung
“If someone asks for a blessing before they take office or begin their work
then I am happy about it and do not make it dependent on the content of the parliamentarians’ work.”
The annual Mass before the opening of parliament reflects the close bond between the Catholic Church and the authorities in Liechtenstein
a mountainous country sandwiched between Austria and Switzerland that is roughly the size of Washington
Catholicism is the state religion, but the principality had no diocese of its own until 1997, when John Paul II approved the creation of the Vaduz archdiocese out of the territory of the Swiss Diocese of Chur. The Polish pope appointed Chur’s bishop, Wolfgang Haas, as the first head of the archdiocese that covers the full 62 square miles of Liechtenstein and serves roughly 28,000 Catholics
Elbs noted that he hadn’t asked Haas whether he should preside at the Mass
but said his participation should not be seen as an affront to the archbishop
“I am a different person and perhaps have a more relaxed
Austrian approach based on the separation of Church and state,” he said

The Austrian bishop said that he had visited Haas in Schellenberg
“I had and still have a good relationship with Archbishop Wolfgang — even though we have very different approaches to many issues,” Elbs said
Elbs also touched on a delicate topic for the Church in Liechtenstein: the government’s wish to introduce a new Church-state law
A draft law, presented for consultation in 2023, would end the present situation in which only the Catholic Church is recognized by the state or public law, while other religious communities operate under private law.
Supporters say that the law would establish a new framework in which religious communities are treated equally, without severing historic ties between Church and state.
Elbs — who has met with Liechtenstein’s reigning prince Hans-Adam II and government members since his appointment — described the principality as “a different world” to Austria due to the close links between the Church and the civil authorities.
He noted that the principality’s funding system meant that “mayors are actually the employers of priests,” with clergy salaries paid by local municipalities.
He suggested that while this gives parishes financial security, it discourages priests from publicly criticizing the authorities.
“Basically, I believe that a free Church in a free state is better,” Elbs said, observing that around a quarter of Liechtenstein’s 39,000 population are not Catholic.
Yet the bishop said it would not be appropriate for the government to reshape Church-state relations before the appointment of a new Archbishop of Vaduz.
“I don’t think it’s right to decide on things like this in a transitional phase,” he commented.
Elbs said that since his appointment as apostolic administrator, he had found local priests cooperative.
“But one thing is also clear: as administrator, it is not my job to shape the future of pastoral work in Liechtenstein,” he said.
“I am there to manage the transition until a new archbishop arrives. He will then perhaps also develop new pastoral priorities with the priests — and there will probably be more discussions.”
Elbs told the Kronen Zeitung that he did not believe that the announcement of Haas’ successor was imminent.
He recalled that Archbishop Martin Krebs, the apostolic nuncio to Liechtenstein, had spoken of an interregnum of at least six months.
“Three have already passed, but I’m not sure if there will be a new archbishop in three months,” he said. “It took 18 months before I was appointed by Pope Francis [as Bishop of Feldkirch].”

St Pat's players celebrate Jake Mulraney's opening goal
The road to the third round of European competition is still very much open for St Patrick’s Athletic thanks to a 3-1 dismissal of the visitors from Liechtenstein
Jake Mulraney will deservedly get a huge chunk of praise for his two-goal delivery in the space of 11 minutes early in the first half
from captain Joe Redmond 13 minutes from time
could prove to be one of the biggest goals scored by the Saints in Europe
as that restored their two-goal advantage and put a stop to what looked like a revival from Vaduz
whose scrappy goal on 65 minutes had threatened to unnerve the home team
A place in the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League
and a likely meeting with Azerbaijani side Sabah
is in the Saints’ grasp once they don’t collapse in the away leg next week
They can expect a response from a Vaduz outfit who were repeatedly upset by what they saw as home-town decisions by the Welsh referee in a tense affair which threatened to boil over at various points
with a flare-up late on after a heavy challenge on Saints sub Cian Kavanagh
Saints fans in the crowd of 2,388 – who were also in Derry to see their team last weekend – will wonder if they were watching the same team as this Saints outfit were a world apart from the team which were so meek days earlier
The tone for the evening was set after just 30 seconds when Jamie Lennon put in a crunching tackle on Kosovo international Lorik Emini
Lennon avoiding a yellow card but concern on the away bench about what they saw as an overly-physical approach from Pat’s
The Saints crowd were in full voice from the start and had a reward on six minutes with the lead goal
Denis Simani fouled Romal Palmer on the edge of the box
the Welsh referee awarded a free kick and Mulraney took control with a lovely left-foot finish
Palmer nipped in when Emini was too ponderous in possession
beating Liechtenstein’s international keeper Benjamin Buchel in the Vaduz goal
Pat’s were not yet sated and pushed for more goals
Buchel saving a Lennon header on 26 minutes and then Lindon Berisha clearing off the line
Teenager Mason Melia was nuisance to Vaduz – and deserved his standing ovation when he was substituted - with wide players Mulraney and Zac Elbouzedi both a constant threat
while the midfield axis of Lennon and Chris Forrester dominated that area
Vaduz got back into the game on 65 minutes
pouncing when a corner was not properly cleared and a shot by Danilo Del Toro went in
Pat’s did look vulnerable to the concession of a second but old stagers did their work
a free in from Forrester headed in by Redmond on 77 minutes to make it 3-1
Sub Aaron Bolger went close twice after coming on and Jay McClelland was also a threat as tensions were high for the closing stages
Forrester (Nolan 85); Elbouzedi (Leavy 68)
Mulraney (McClelland 76); Melia (C Kavanagh 85)
National team coach Blagoja Milevski and captain Enis Bardhi were present at today’s press-conference before tomorrow’s match against Liechtenstein in Vaduz

It will be our opening match of the new qualifying cycle for the World Cup 2026 and it will be played under the influence of the mournful atmosphere in the country due to the great tragedy in Kochani
Milevski and Bardhi once again declared that they share the grief with the families of the victims and they feel great pain for their loss
“Liechtenstein’s poor form in recent matches and the fact that they are giving us the role of favorites will not fool us
everyone plays football and we will enter the match with maximum respect for the opponent
to win 3 points to continue the series of good results
Several players have been ruled out due to injury
but I believe their absence will be compensated by maximum engagement from those who will play tomorrow
I know the starting line-up.” – said Milevski
our players will wear special t-shirts dedicated to the victims in the great tragedy in Kochani and tomorrow they will play in dark third tops and shorts – in their honor
Tomorrow’s match will be played at the Rheinpark stadium in Vaduz

the wines of the Princely Cellars were considered unremarkable
This has changed since Stefan Tscheppe assumed management of the vineyards in Vaduz and Austria’s Weinviertel
Finews.com visited the ambitious winemaker and also discovered which wines are the favorites of Prince Hans Adam II
In terms of picturesque scenery, the Princely Wine Cellars of the Prince of Liechtenstein in Vaduz ranks among the most beautiful vineyards
which serves both production and representation purposes
It houses a small but remarkably well-stocked wine shop and
Standing before the grand wooden portal of the cellar
one's gaze travels over the «Herawingert» vineyard up to the Torkel restaurant
which also belongs to the cellar and boasts one of the most acclaimed kitchens in the area with one Michelin star and 16 Gault-Millau points
Vaduz Castle majestically crowns the impressive mountain backdrop
we did not come to admire the postcard-perfect scenery but to assess the current state of the Princely Wine Cellars
its wines were considered rather bland and unremarkable. This is no longer the case: Numerous high-end restaurants have begun to appreciate the wines of the Prince of Liechtenstein
with some achieving top ratings in competitions
What brought about this transformation? Stefan Tscheppe
has been managing the winery for almost six years
who assumed family responsibility for the vineyards in 2013. To prepare for this role
Stefan Tscheppe hails from a renowned winery in southern Styria
Besides extensive experience and training in wine production
he holds business administration degrees from the Vienna University of Economics and Business
and the Graduate School of Management at the University of California
Tscheppe and Princess Marie have rejuvenated the range and crafted numerous new wines
and informative vineyard manager leads us a few hundred steps into the vineyard at a brisk pace
With only 4 hectares planted with Pinot Noir
the production capacity of «Herawingert» falls far short of demand
Liechtenstein is practically identical to the Bündner Herrschaft,» Tscheppe explains. His ambition is to produce a top-tier Pinot Noir that can compete with the best from Bündner Herrschaft – an increasingly popular
Tscheppe shows us the latest innovation: some vine rows are experimentally equipped with extendable nets to protect the harvest from hail if necessary

the flying Lampaert established an early best time of 5:05 for the technical
The former Belgian National TT champion held on throughout the afternoon of variable weather conditions to take his first win since the 2022 Tour de France opening TT on the streets of Denmark
Lampaert will now lead the Tour de Suisse into its second rolling stage from Vaduz to Regensdorf
“I didn’t expect to beat the Swiss specialists like Bissegger and [Stefan] Kung,” Lampaert said afterwards
I know this distance suits me well.”
With his previous win now nearly two years distant
Lampaert said that he was delighted to be able to add a second stage victory in Suisse to the time trial triumph he captured back in the 2019 edition of the race
But I never gave up believing and kept training as well as possible
So it gives me a lot of satisfaction that I could take the victory today.”
with plenty of the top names opting for an early time to try and beat the difficult weather conditions forecast for later in the day
Jan Sommer (Switzerland National Team) was the first to go down the start ramp
but double Portuguese TT national champion Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) quickly went top of the leader’s board with a time of 5:12
With riders off at minute intervals the changes to the provisional ranking looked set to come thick and fast
was that local TT star Stefan Küng (Groupama-FDJ) failed to oust Almeida from the top spot
the former European Time Trial Champion falling four seconds short
An even bigger one came when after beginning his race just over half an hour after the first starter
Lampaert put no less than seven seconds into the Portuguese racer’s time
consequently gaining a spot in the hot seat the 33-year-old Belgian was destined to keep for the rest of the day
The strength of Lampaert’s top provisional time of 5:05 became steadily clearer as riders of the calibre of Ethan Hayter (Ineos Grenadiers) and reigning Swiss TT champ Stefan Bissegger (EF Education-EasyPost) were unable to topple it
Try as they might on a course which featured a little of everything in four kilometres
from city roads to country back lanes to a segment of bike path running alongside a river
The rain that set in with around an hour’s racing left certainly played in Lampaert’s favour
just as the change in weather from dry to wet had done in Copenhagen two years ago
But the fact of the matter was that he had set a very impressive time and regardless of the favourable circumstances
that was the bar that had to be broken.
In fact none of the final wave of riders came close to troubling Lampaert with former Tour de France stage winner Søren Kragh Andersen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) the only late starter who broke into the top ten
such a short course was never going to have a huge impact on the GC
So although Almeida now goes into the remainder of the eight-day course as the best-placed overall favourite
last year’s overall winner Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) at 11 seconds, Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates) is at 15 seconds
Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) at 19 seconds
and none of the other favourites is too far distanced
What is certain is the four summit finishes to come in the second half of the race
as well as an uphill time trial on the final day that still await the 2024 Tour de Suisse peloton will surely establish far bigger differences
Prior to the feast of Alpine climbing on offer in Suisse this year
stage 2 from Vaduz to Regensdorf will be finely balanced between favouring the breakaways and the sprinters
with two cat.2 climbs early on and a cat.3
peaking out just 12 kilometres from the finish.
“I think tomorrow [Monday] is a really nice stage
probably a lot of the sprinters can make it also,” Lampaert observed
“Let’s hope it’s a sprint stage with a small group and I can try to keep the jersey.”

the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein is a state modern and contemporary art museum with an international scope
the new Hilti Art Foundation building was added to the existing complex
The Liechtenstein state collection forms the founding nucleus of the museum and is the basis of the exhibition program
but it is also a dynamo for the institution’s educational purpose
The collection is presented through temporary exhibitions that complement the major exhibitions that follow one another in the annual calendar and that deepen the international art from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries
The private collection held by the Hilti Art Foundation
which places greater emphasis on exceptional art works from classical modernism and contemporary art
is the ideal complement to the collections of the Kunstmuseum
after completing her mandate at the Museion in Bolzano
has been in charge of the Kunstmuseum in Vaduz
Now she signs the first exhibition designed for the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein: C(to the power of)4
with the participation of four internationally renowned artists who have been asked to compete with the works in the Museum’s collections: Nazgol Ansarinia (Iranian
the artists were invited to choose a work from the collection by integrating it into their own set-up
as in a sort of orientation and dialogue between past and future
Here is the exhibition explained in the words of the curator: “ C(to the power of)4 celebrates the energy that contemporary artists bring to a museum: the C in the title of the exhibition refers to the collection as a base and starting point
but it also evokes associations with cooperation
This wants to underline how art is all contemporary: it is our gaze that makes it current and speaking to our heart
and the intertwining and cross-references are explained by our culture
in relation to our knowledge and all that set of sensorial factors that allow us to play on relationships and on intertwined paths
But not only this; here we want to make it clear that art has the potential to make people relate
so that the language of modernity can offer a boost even in the field of social cohesion or
be a thermometer of the great problems of humanity
These four artists share a narrative approach that opens up new perspectives on the past by offering an alternative reading in the light of today’s reality
Coming from different cultural backgrounds
each of them explores themes such as social exclusion and discrimination
the legends of the past and the transformation of urban space (from urban plans lowered by the other to gentrification from below)
Biographical elements and personal memories punctuate the exhibition path to build a new collective memory
something that can be delivered in the form of a story or a note for future generations
Crossing C(to the power of)4 the visitor finds himself immersed in an interdisciplinary crossover of performance and sound
in a path that is divided into four exhibition rooms in which surprising encounters give new life to the collection

ANTO BRESLIN insisted attack is the best form of defence for St Patrick’s Athletic as they defend a two-goal lead in Liechtenstein tomorrow
The Saints face Vaduz leading 3-1 from the first leg of the Conference League tie hoping to set up a third round tie against Sabah or Maccabi Haifa
But it is also new territory for St Pat’s who have never led a European tie by two goals going into a second leg before
Nor has Breslin ever enjoyed such a lead in his first three seasons of European competition - and he reckons the best way to defend it is to go for the win
He said: “We don’t want to go into the game just to defend a two-goal lead
get after them from the first minute and hopefully get a start like last week
"We did that and had chances in the second half to have more.
“It’s not that we said, we'll take two and sat off, we wanted three or four if we could but the minimum we wanted to take here was the two-goal lead and we did that.
“Again, we're not going to sit off over here, we want to win the game, we want to try and score another two, keep a clean sheet and go through to the next round.
make it as comfortable for yourself as you can
“I have played in tight games and I know one goal is not enough
“But we have a better chance with a two-goal lead and it showed good character from us to get that.”
Breslin also acknowledged that the side must be street wise against a Vaduz side who put in a few off the ball challenges during the first leg
"You pick up little things like that about managing the game better
I think European teams do it a bit better than us
“We pick up things and learn things from the games we've played
a lot of the lads have played European football
our experienced lads will have to step up tomorrow
The current head to head record for the teams are FC Vaduz 3 win(s)
Have been awarded the most penalties this season (11)
Have scored 16 goals in their last 5 matches
Have kept the most clean sheets in the competition (11)

Aidan FitzmauriceThu 1 Aug 2024 at 03:30A small, peace-loving nation was not expected to be a potentially brutal battleground for an Irish club in European competition that has come through scrapes in places like Sofia.
But Stephen Kenny will have his St Patrick’s Athletic side ready, with instructions not to react to provocation from the home team, as Pat’s take on FC Vaduz in Liechtenstein (6.30), with a place in the third round of the Europa Conference League at stake.
The rewards for the Saints for progress are massive: a financial boost of at least an extra €200,000 on top of the prize money already banked, as they would probably face FC Sabah in the next round (once the Azerbaijani side don’t squander a 3-0 lead over Maccabi Haifa from the first leg), with the first leg of that third-round tie in Tallaght Stadium next week, Richmond Park not being up to UEFA standards for the third round stage.
The home leg, which Pat’s won 3-1, was a tense affair with more than a fair share of tough tackles, and a reaction from Vaduz, who had four men booked in Inchicore, is expected in the away tie.
“We are going to have to absolutely fight for the right for the victory that we need.
“It was quite a physical approach from Vaduz, very physical approach from them last week. We have to be ready for that,” Kenny said, noting that an experienced Vaduz defensive unit, with veteran Liechtenstein internationals in goal and at centre-half, singled out 16-year-old forward Mason Melia for some rough treatment.
“It will be physical, they’re a good technical team and will try to play. They will not give it up easily, we will have to go and earn it.
“We must look to do that and show a level of composure in possession and look for the first goal, which is important. We’ve got to make sure we always play with 11 [men] and can’t react to provocation. There were a couple of off-the-ball challenges and things like that last week. Mason Melia took a few blows, so it’s important that we retain our focus and definitely understand what we’re going into,” Kenny added.
“I don’t think it was just for Mason, they’re a streetwise team who are well schooled in all aspects of winning, whether it’s a lot of blocks from every set-play or just some of the knocks players took,” he added.
“We have got to remain calm. In the absence of provocation, we’ve just got to stay firmly focused on what the job is. That is to try and control the game and be an attacking threat. We have players that can cause [danger]. We are now carrying a real attacking threat with [our] front three and also our midfield supporting that.”
Vaduz, who competed in this competition’s group phase two seasons ago, would see an exit to an Irish side as a failure, so they will push for an early goal to at least take the tie to extra-time. But Pat’s say they travel with the approach of not sitting on their lead but pushing for more goals, even though it’s rare for a League of Ireland side to take a two-goal lead into the second leg as Irish teams are usually chasing to overturn a deficit, not defend a lead.
“It’s not that we said in the home leg, ‘we’ll take two’ and sat off, we wanted three or four if we could but the minimum we wanted to take here was the two-goal lead and we did that,” said defender Anto Breslin, competing in his fifth European campaign, of the approach.
“We’re not going to sit off over here, we want to win the game, we want to try and score another two, keep a clean sheet and go through to the next round. You take as many goals as you can in the second leg, [and] make it as comfortable for yourself as you can.
“I have played in tight games and I know one goal is not enough, to sit on that, and I know two goals might not be enough. But we have a better chance with a two-goal lead and it showed good character from us to get that.
“We don’t want to go into the game just to defend a two-goal lead. We want to do the same again, get after them from the first minute and hopefully get a start like last week. We want to win the game,” added Breslin.
Kenny had the bonus of travelling to Vaduz on a roundabout route – they flew into an airport in Switzerland and were based at a hotel in Austria – with a fully-fit squad. However, new signing Aidan Keena is not eligible for this round.
The current head to head record for the teams are Stade Nyonnais 5 win(s)

St Patrick's Athletic's Anto Breslin
European veteran Anto Breslin says his St Patrick’s Athletic side will need to match their opponents when it comes to the ‘dark arts’ as the Saints look to progress past FC Vaduz and into the third round of the Europa Conference League
Pat’s hold a 3-1 lead from the home leg and will be seen as favourites to go through and a likely meeting with Azerbaijani side FC Sabah
who won their first leg against Israeli opposition 3-0
But there was an edge to the first leg in Dublin
four bookings for Vaduz and they are not expected to hold back when it comes to the physical side in the second leg
"It’s a high stakes game with a lot on the line
I didn’t see anything nasty out of the ordinary
whereas most of the teams I’ve been in have been quite young,” says Breslin
You pick up little things like that about managing the game better
We pick up things and learn things from the games we've played
Pat’s don’t need to score to advance but Breslin
who made his European debut with Bohemians in 2020
says his side can’t afford to sit back and defend their lead and need to take the game to Vaduz
"We don’t want to go into the game just to defend a two goal lead
we wanted three or four if we could but the minimum we wanted to take here was the two-goal lead and we did that
keep a clean sheet and go through to the next round
You take as many goals as you can in the second leg
I have played in tight games and I know one goal is not enough
But we have a better chance with a two-goal lead and it showed good character from us to get that.”
ROMAL PALMER and St Pat’s wingers produced the goods to see off Vaduz and set up a Conference League third round date with Sabah of Azerbaijan
And with Baku-based Sabah winning on penalties against Israel’s Maccabi Haifa after a crazy game that ended 6-6 on aggregate
it means a clash with the Azeri’s next week
Their guaranteed prize money for this year increases from €350,000 to €900,000
while there is a further €750,000 at stake in the next round
But the immediate priority is next week’s tie at home which will likely be moved to Tallaght unless the Saints get a dispensation to use Richmond Park in the third round
But a switch to the wider pitch in Dublin 24 may not upset gaffer Stephen Kenny too much having seen how crucial his wingers were to last night’s result
And Kenny’s wingers were the key men in Vaduz to both goals.
Trailing 1-0 to Fabrizio Cavegn’s penalty after 21 minutes, their first equaliser came when left winger Jake Mulraney - who scored twice last week - teed up right winger Zack Elbouzedi.
And after Vaduz had set themselves up for a big final 20 minutes when Cavegn scored his second on 74 minutes, Palmer netted the second after a mazy dribble by sub Kian Leavy.
But Pat’s expected that against a Vaduz side who reached the group stages two years ago
and produced in big moments to earn an important result
It was not always pretty but with Mason Melia winning free kicks to ease pressure and Joe Redmond marshalling the defence
But they fell behind on 21 minutes when Axel Sjoberg was adjudged to have tripped Kosovan international Lorik Emini as he slipped by him in the area before he hit the deck
while Joe Anang got a hand to Fabrizio Cavegn’s penalty
there was enough power in his effort to take it beyond him and over the line
That halved the Saints’ first leg advantage and they were thankful moments later when Anang raced off his line to deflect a Javi Navarro effort off the post
the Saints restored their two-goal cushion with a well taken goal created and finished by Kenny’s wide boys
Mulraney raced into the area on the left and beyond Denis Simani before cutting the ball back towards the penalty area
Melia’s run to the near post took Vaduz cover away from the ball and gave Elbouzedi all the space he needed to coolly side-foot home with his left foot
That rocked Vaduz and it took them a while to regain their rhythm though they finished the half strongly with Danilo Del Toro forcing Anang into a save just before half-time
And it was the visitors who were the better early in the second half as Mulraney went close with a shot and Grivosti flicked a corner wide
and they began to turn the screw as Sjoberg blocked from Hasler before Cavegn did score with a deflected shot from distance with 15 minutes remaining
if the 400 St Pat’s fans that travelled that signalled the start of a Vaduz siege
the Saints instead took control and scored a brilliant equaliser
Leavy was the architect as he danced into the area from the right beyond three Vaduz players before passing to Palmer who coolly passed the ball into the net from eight yards
Vaduz’s Jonathan De Donno hit the crossbar with a header late on that could have led to a nervy ending
but the Saints held firm to book a date with Sabah

the city of Los Angeles is about 8x larger than Liechtenstein
I am the king of taking advantage of a 4-day weekend
military’s family day and federal holiday combos
and other countries with the right amount of planning and patience
you just have a regular-ole-weekend to make some memories
“It was a Friday night when I pointed my compass south and made my way to an Airbnb in Liechtenstein
Did I drive right by it on my first attempt
With my gear unpacked and the sun well on the other side of the world
with an awesome day of exploring soon to follow
you’ll be returned the following results: Vaduz Castle
Vaduz Cathedral and The Liechtenstein National Museum in
you could argue that Vaduz is the only thing to do in Liechtenstein
I was determined to find something to do in Liechtenstein other than checking out its capital city
then there must be some incredible hiking to be found
and began moving toward the town of Malbun
one of the five things worth visiting in Liechtenstein according to the internet
I parked my car and hopped out to explore for a moment
I felt my mind slowly slipping back in time to when knights and archers would have occupied the grounds
In my mind I could see them standing guard along the tops of the castle towers
searching for adversaries along the ridgeline
I fell in love with the beautiful location upon which it rested
The trees had begun giving way to the fall temperatures and were on the verge of turning bright yellow
Smells of decaying leaves and pine needles filled the air
enhanced by the sound of rolling thunder and the occasional flash of lightning
cloudy weather that loomed over the valley only aided my imagination
The lack of cars driving along the nearby cobblestone road gave way to the natural ambience of birds in the trees and horses pulling up grass with their dull
I could’ve easily enjoyed the moment for at least an hour but
mother nature had other plans and began sprinkling me with a light
I strolled along the wooden fence for a few hundred meters before reaching my car and continuing on to my long-awaited hiking trailhead
it’s clear that this is a place steeped in history
a symbol of power and strength from a bygone era
I was surprised to learn that Malbun is actually a small ski town
don’t get your expectations too high about skiing in Liechtenstein; there are only five ski lifts and 23km of on-piste skiing
skiing or riding in Liechtenstein is a thing
in 1968 (the same year as my first car if you can believe it)
Malbun’s ski resort was accidentally struck by five Swiss artillery shells
The cloudy sky that had socked itself into the valley between Liechtenstein and Switzerland had given way to a welcomed partly cloudy sky
rode the zipline at the Kinderspielplatz (twice)
snapped a few photos of the Friedenskapelle chapel
and began making my way along the Fürstin Gina Weg trail
If you really want to see a side of Liechtenstein that most people don’t
and do a romantic ski trip for you and your partner
but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm
You should visit Liechtenstein if you want a change of pace from your busy lifestyle
and other fabricated stressors that take a toll on our physical and mental health
There are many ways to visit Liechtenstein
and I recommend a car or something you can drive yourself
you’re restricted to visiting the areas serviced by public transportation
Liechtenstein offers you a chance to stroll along a dirt trail and breathe in fresh air while the leaves rustle from a breeze rolling down the mountainsides all around you
