The part of the 9M335 missile (SA-22 Greyhound according to the NATO classification) is designed to ensure the missile’s initial acceleration and stabilise its flight immediately after launch
It is likely that the part of the missile was fired from the Pantsir-M air defence system of a Russian naval vessel
this is a medium-range air defence system with an operation area of up to 20 km at range and 15 km at altitude
The fragment was spotted on Tuesday night washed up on the First Melnragė beach in Klaipėda
a report of an explosive-like object was received at around 18:00
The first naval personnel to arrive at the scene found the object to be non-hazardous and took it to a safe place
The Klaipėda Port Authority has contracted MT Group to supply
and commission equipment for green hydrogen production and public refuelling stations
The production and supply of green hydrogen in the Port of Klaipėda is planned for 2026
Design work is currently underway and tendering procedures will soon be launched to select a contractor for the site to house the hydrogen production equipment
Green hydrogen at the port will be produced by electrolysis using a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) type electrolyser
The planned electricity demand for the hydrogen production equipment in the Klaipėda Port is up to 3 megawatts (MW)
It is planned to produce around 500 kilogrammes (kg) of hydrogen per day and up to 127 tonnes per year primarily for port purposes
The Environmental Impact Assessment procedures for the project were finalised in May this year
The equipment will be installed and the green hydrogen will be produced at the Port Authority’s fleet base (Nemuno g. 40, Klaipėda). Approval has also been given for the design proposals for green fuel (hydrogen) production and refuelling stations in the Port of Klaipėda
The project will be partly financed by the European Union Investment Programme 2021-2027 and the Economic Recovery and Resilience Plan “New Generation Lithuania”
The total value of the hydrogen production and refuelling stations project is expected to be around €10.5 million (£11.36 million)
The EU will finance around €6 million ($6.5 million) of the project

“We are delighted that MT Group has been selected to carry out one of the first green hydrogen projects in the Baltic States
which will be built in the Port of Klaipėda,” said Mindaugas Zakaras
“We congratulate the Port of Klaipėda for its strong commitment to sustainable green energy and climate change
in particular by taking the lead in implementing the first pilot project
which will be a benchmark for other hydrogen projects in the region
“We will use the most advanced technologies that will not only ensure the maximum capacity of the green hydrogen station but also meet the strictest safety and quality requirements.”
Last month, Eco Umande, a vessel powered by green methanol, entered Klaipėda Port for the first time on X-Press Feeders’ green shipping route.

“We see great potential for even broader and more intensive cooperation. LNG imports from the US via the Klaipėda LNG terminal could be increased to the maximum possible volume to meet the needs of the entire region,” he said in a press release on Wednesday after a meeting with US Energy Secretary Chris Wright.
According to Vaičiūnas, another goal for the terminal is to help meet Ukraine’s gas supply needs by utilising its capacity and the Lithuania-Poland Gas Interconnection (GIPL).
Vaičiūnas and Wright also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in clean energy development, including nuclear energy, new technologies, and the protection of critical energy infrastructure in the Baltic Sea region.
The issues covered during the meeting included the potential use of small modular reactor (SMR) technology in Lithuania, according to the press release.

KLAIPEDA (FIBA U19 World Championship for Women) - A number of aspiring coaches on Saturday were treated to a clinic facilitated by the World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC), prior to enjoying some of the most decisive games at the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women in Lithuania
Foster expressed his delight at being able to play a part in the coaching clinic.
"It is always enjoyable to be with young people and there was a lot of energy and I love to be coaching in that kind of environment," he said.
"It was a great opportunity and underlined just how much basketball is such a universal game.
"I really enjoyed the discussions and things around the important subtleties of individual development.
"It was fun to have opportunity of looking at those things, rather than only considering team concepts.
He continued: "It's also great to be part of a clinic at a FIBA World Championship event because at any level, I love it even more than the Olympics as there is only basketball.
"To see some of the best young players in the world and see some of the best coaches is a big opportunity.
"Besides, the day when you stop thinking you can learn as a coach is the day you should pack your bags and move along."
Foster, who focused on drills for an offensive and defensive segment of practice particularly enjoyed the session given by McNeill who demonstrated drills to improve decision-making.
"I enjoy listening to other coaches and I thought Allison McNeill was terrific in the way she presented and communicated her topic," he explained.
"Anytime you have the opportunity to be with and also to learn from other coaches, you should take it.
"It's fundamental that you find and consider different ways to communicate and motivate, so you get players to enjoy the process of development as much as you do as a coach."
Coaches in the audience also benefitted from sessions on how to improve individual abilities in game situations and on individual game preparation for players.

The Port of Klaipėda is one of the most advanced and active European seaports in environmental protection
This is evidenced by the decision of Singapore‘s shipping company X-Press Feeders to include the Port of Klaipėda in a shipping route that will be served by container ships powered by green methanol
entered the gates of Klaipėda Port for the first time
marking the beginning of a new era in sustainable shipping
Eco Umande will visit the port every second week
the Port of Klaipėda marks an important historical moment – the arrival of Eco Umande
the first green methanol-powered vessel that will regularly operate in the port
This event not only symbolizes the beginning of a new era of sustainable shipping at the Port of Klaipėda but also integrates Lithuania into the international network of green shipping routes
It is a great recognition of our efforts to achieve environmental goals and proof that we are among the most advanced ports in Europe
Alongside ports like Rotterdam and Antwerp
we are contributing to the development of a sustainable maritime shipping industry,” says Algis Latakas
X-Press Feeders currently operates across Asia
focusing instead on providing transportation services to container operators
X-Press Feeders operates more than 100 vessels
ranging in capacity from 700 to 7,000 TEUs
the company has acquired 14 dual-fuel vessels capable of operating on green methanol
The remaining vessels are scheduled for delivery by 2026
we are committed to advancing sustainable shipping practices
at the Port of Klaipėda marks a significant milestone not only for our company but also for the shipping industry as a whole
This initiative aligns with our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and fostering environmentally friendly operations across global shipping routes
By partnering with forward-thinking ports like Klaipėda
we are taking concrete steps toward a more sustainable shipping industry throughout Europe,” says Francis Goh
The green methanol-powered vessel Eco Umande
which will transport containers to and from the Klaipėda Container Terminal
is 148 meters long and has a nominal capacity of 1,260 TEU
It will operate on the following route: Rotterdam–Antwerp–Klaipėda–Riga–Rotterdam
“One of our company's strategic directions is sustainability
which is why we are actively investing in various solutions that help reduce CO2 emissions
We are acquiring environmentally friendly equipment
and using energy-efficient solutions to minimize environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable and ecologically responsible port operation
large cargo ships powered by LNG are increasingly arriving at our terminal
LNG bunkering operations have already been carried out
and today we are welcoming the green methanol-powered vessel Eco Umande
All of this proves that as a cargo terminal
we are responsibly prepared to serve not only regular vessels but also environmentally friendly vessels that actively contribute to environmental preservation,” says Vaidotas Šileika
signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) committing to accelerate the establishment of green shipping corridors and the broader decarbonization of the marine sector in Scandinavia and the Baltic Sea
parties agreed to work together to further develop infrastructure for the provision and bunkering of alternative fuels such as green methanol
Adding the Port of Klaipėda to the green shipping route is a continuation of the cooperation agreement signed between Klaipėda Port and X-Press Feeders
A green shipping corridor is a regular maritime transport route that places particular emphasis on reducing the environmental impact of shipping by using environmentally friendly fuels
and implementing infrastructure and advanced technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions
and other harmful effects on the environment

“The cargo will not be allowed to enter the port,” she said on Thursday during the government hour in the parliament
The vessel carrying around 20,000 tons of ammonium nitrate from Russia is requesting permission to enter the port of Klaipėda to unload its cargo and carry out repairs
told BNS earlier on Thursday that the port had not yet decided whether to admit the ship
According to Defence Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas
similar situations often occur when Russian ships request to be allowed into European ports for repairs
“There are many such situations and not only here
rusty and outdated Russian ships when they pass through certain Danish straits,” the minister told the MPs
there are certain rules of international law which obviously also have to be assessed according to the situation,” he added
The Ruby picked up the cargo of ammonium nitrate on August 22 from Russia’s northern port of Kandalaksha and docked at the industrial port of Tromso on Tuesday before noon after seeking refuge from a storm
Norwegian publication The Barents Observer reported
The vessel carrying the potentially explosive material was reportedly headed to Las Palmas in the Atlantic but docked in Norway after receiving approval from the military
Yet Tromso police said in a statement on Tuesday evening that it was “not desirable” for the ship to undergo repairs “close to the city of Tromso”
The tanker reportedly sustained damage to its propeller
According to the ship tracking website Marine Traffic
the vessel is currently in the Norwegian Sea
near the town of Andenes in the north of the country
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis says there is no evidence that the ship requesting permission to enter the port of Klaipėda for repairs could be a provocation
“No data has been provided to confirm that this is a deliberate malicious act against the interests of Lithuania’s national security,” he told a press conference on Thursday
when we are dealing with Russia or other international actors that are unfriendly to us
more cautious than when dealing with another state,” he said
The Klaipėda port’s CEO says that Ruby will unload its explosive cargo at another port and then the Lithuanian port will decide whether to let it in for repairs
“We have found a port that agrees to receive and unload the cargo,” Algis Latakas told reporters in Klaipėda on Thursday
“It will be then decided whether this ship can come to Klaipeda for repairs.”
He says there is no reason not to allow the unloaded ship to enter for repairs since the Maltese-flagged vessel belongs to a UAE company and is not linked to Russia
we really see no reason why an empty ship with a flag and owners we accept should not be allowed to come to Klaipėda and be repaired,” Latakas said
nobody would consider allowing it to enter Klaipėda
Latakas did not mention the specific port that would receive the cargo
but assured that it is close to where it stopped in northern Norway
the vessel sustained damage after leaving the White Sea and then stopped in Norway for checks
A tender for its repairs was later launched and it was won by a Klaipėda-based company
63 cruise ships are expected to visit the Lithuanian port city
Klaipėda State Seaport Authority said in a press release
noted that the early start to the cruise season is yet another sign that ports must adapt to fast-changing market trends
Ambience brought nearly 1,300 passengers to Klaipėda
the ship was built in 1991 and modernised in 2022
featuring the latest ballast and wastewater treatment systems
It mainly sails routes across Northern Europe
Nearly 40 percent of the cruise ships expected in Klaipėda this year are over 290 metres long
which was built and made its first visit to Klaipėda last year
Both ships are 316 metres long and can accommodate almost 3,000 tourists and about 1,000 crew members each
Eight ships will be visiting Klaipėda for the first time this year
including vessels from two new cruise lines
SeaDream Yacht Club and Atlas Ocean Voyages
Almost 70 cruise ships have already expressed interest in stopping in Klaipėda in 2026
Klaipėda welcomed 63,000 passengers on 53 cruise ships last year
The reconstruction works on the main square of Lithuania’s third biggest city started a few months ago
Klaipėda Mayor Arvydas Vaitkus announced on Tuesday that the works are temporarily suspended
an archaeological excavation of the foundations of demolished buildings under the square has unearthed around 20 explosives
The amount of bombs and TNT found under the square suggests that preparations were made to blow up the remains of the buildings
some of the explosives recovered were made by the German army and some by the Soviet army
“We received a letter from the contractor on Friday evening
The contractor cannot work in these conditions
They informed us that they need to ensure the security of their people and equipment and we have contacted the Ministry of Defence
“We are asking for help to clear these buildings and deactivate the explosives with the help of the military
The renovation work on the square is currently on hold
They will not resume until the explosives are cleared
“I don’t think it should be a particularly long process
specialists usually carry out the work as quickly as possible
since we are all well aware of the threat posed by the discovery of the explosives on the site,” said Vaitkus
Specialists will be consulted to determine if residents of some surrounding buildings will have to be evacuated until the deactivation works are complete
pedestrians are not at risk because the site is fenced off due to the reconstruction
we want to get the military’s assessment and then we will take decisions,” said the mayor
Only a small part of the square has been dug up so far
so more explosives could still be discovered
“What we would not like to do is to demolish a part of Herkaus Manto Street
because some of the foundations are also buried underneath that street,” Vaitkus noted
President Edgars Rinkēvičs paid a working visit to the Republic of Lithuania
where he met with President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda
President of the Republic of Estonia Alar Karis and President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda
The meeting addressed regional and energy security issues
transatlantic relations and the situation in Georgia
the Presidents of the Baltic states and Poland jointly attended a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the of the liquefied natural gas terminal “Independence”
the President of Latvia highlighted the vital importance of the terminal to the Baltic states
It strengthens energy independence and encourages competition between suppliers
as the last decade has demonstrated the significance of reliable infrastructure and a competitive energy market
This is crucial not only in times of peace but also in times of crisis
When the Russian aggression against Ukraine began
It allowed the Baltic states to cease reliance on Russian gas in a very short time
President Rinkēvicš also emphasised that in February 2025 the Baltic electricity systems would be synchronised with the European Union
The Klaipėda terminal is therefore a crucial component of the energy infrastructure
serving as a vital backup option in scenarios where renewable energy production low or electricity imports are limited
Like the Inčukalns gas storage facility in Latvia
the facility serves to strengthen the Baltic energy market
The Presidents of the Baltic states and Poland also adopted a joint statement confirming their strong support for the Georgian people's aspiration to integrate into the European Union

Dassi has founded a Buddhist centre in Klaipėda
where people from nearby towns come each evening to escape the stresses of everyday life
spiritual practices and meditation were far less accessible and popular than they are today
Everything changed when she moved to London
where she discovered the opportunity to participate in a 10-day silent meditation retreat
I used to run from one lecture or seminar to another
I was going through a lot of inner suffering
There was a chance to try a 10-day silent meditation retreat
it’s incredibly intense – 10 hours of meditation a day
and I fully immersed myself in the practice when I was 26
Although Dassi took her vows over a decade ago
her decision was not supported by her family
did not want to hear anything about her daughter’s life as a Buddhist nun
“When I called my mum to tell her I was becoming a nun the next day
‘There she goes again with her ideas.’ My mum got over it
but I didn’t get over being a nun,” Dassi says
Local generosity left a lasting impressionTaking monastic vows includes the ritual shaving of one’s head
this symbolises renouncing worldly life – and means no longer worrying about appearances
“It simplifies life – no need to think about shampoos or styling
It also makes us [Buddhist monks and nuns] more or less the same
It’s the exact opposite of what’s valued in the modern world
I think in ancient India it was also just practical – no chance for little creatures to live in your hair,” she laughs
Dassi completed her studies in Pali language and Buddhism at a regional Buddhist university in Shan State
she was moved by the kindness and generosity of the local people
“These are qualities Westerners could really learn from,” Dassi says
“They don’t grow up as individualists — they have large families and strong traditions
They try not to disturb one another and pay close attention
silently observing so that everyone feels at ease
All of Asia is marked by gratitude and generosity.”
Asked about the importance of meditation in Buddhism
she explains that it is a way to turn inward
“Buddha taught that the root of all our suffering and misfortune lies within us
Most people tend to blame the outside world
Meditation gaining popularity in Lithuania
Since returning to Klaipėda four years ago
“People want to step away from their daily lives and give some time to themselves
it might be a way to get away from their kids
Klaipėda locals are naturally quite phlegmatic and like to stay home
I also welcome women who want a quiet place to reflect on life
Dassi notes that monastic rules prohibit accepting money directly
She believes money creates a dependency between regular people and monks
people offer practical help – or as they like to say these days
it's a lesson in how solidarity works,” she says
Meditation as a path to truthA Buddhist nun’s day begins around 4:00 in the morning
there’s another formal practice and meditation,” she explains
Speaking about the increasing number of people drawn to meditation
Dassi cautions that the practice brings up the very things people tend to avoid
“It’s not something to try just out of curiosity – what comes up can be quite unpleasant
we come face to face with what we’ve been running from – we’re forced to look at the truth
you first have to look at yourself and see all the dirt
People won’t be eager to gaze at the dirt just for fun
it’s women who say they’ve tried everything else and nothing helped
They need someone to tell them: you have to sit with it,” Dassi says

The construction of Lithuania’s first hydrogen-electric ship has begun at Western Baltija Shipbuilding (WBS)
The tanker will be 42 meters long and 10 meters wide
with a capacity to collect 400 cubic meters of liquid waste
It will be equipped with two electric motors powered by batteries with a capacity of 2000 kWh and an installed on-board hydrogen fuel cell system
the ship will be able to operate within the Port of Klaipeda for up to 36 hours on a single charge
and wheelhouse will be constructed at the Western Baltija Shipbuilding at the Port of Klaipeda
along with the installation of cargo systems and other works
the main challenge for the shipbuilders is to design and build a ship for the collection of oily bilge water
It will need to be equipped with waste collection tanks and an oily bilge water treatment plant that will treat the waste waters and transfer everything along with the sewage to the city’s onshore wastewater treatment plant.
Estonian company Baltic Workboats is responsible for the installation of the main and auxiliary machinery and the harmonization and testing of all the ship systems
The hydrogen fuel cell system will also be installed in Estonia
“The Port Authority has undertaken very ambitious projects in recent years
the company will become the first one in Lithuania not only to produce green hydrogen
It will also clean other ships entering the port by collecting waste from them without leaving an environmental footprint
and environmentally friendly tanker is being built not somewhere abroad
at the Port of Klaipeda,” said Algis Latakas
Director General of the Klaipeda State Seaport Authority
we are building an advanced ship for our own country
which is an honour and a great commitment and responsibility
We are also implementing the project together with our Estonian partners
and this cooperation once again demonstrates a strong business partnership between the two countries,” stated Arnoldas Šileika
CEO of the Western Shipyard (WSY) Group of Companies
which owns the subsidiary Western Baltija Shipbuilding
“The project is a great milestone for the Baltic Workboats and we are extremely satisfied to be able to deliver such a modern ship to our Baltic neighbors in Klaipeda
It will be the first tanker type vessel ever built with Baltic Workboats participation and in addition to electric propulsion solution in which Baltic Workboats has extensive expertise it will be the first vessel to be fitted with hydrogen power plant in Baltic Workboats portfolio,” commented Jüri Taal
Management Board Member of Baltic Workboats
This shipbuilding project with a total value of €12 million has been commissioned by the Klaipeda State Seaport Authority and is being built by Baltic Workboats under a joint operating agreement with Western Baltija Shipbuilding
The ship is expected to sail in the waters of the Port of Klaipeda at the end of next year

On 6 December, President Edgars Rinkēvičs paid a working visit to Klaipėda, Lithuania, to participate in the annual meeting of the Presidents of the Baltic states.
During the meeting, the presidents of the Baltic states discussed regional security issues, future support for Ukraine, the situation in Georgia, transatlantic relations and the cooperation of the Baltic states to date in formats such as the Baltic Council of Ministers, the Three Seas Initiative, infrastructure and energy projects.
Addressing the participants of the meeting, the President of Latvia expressed his conviction that the Baltic states had made significant decisions to increase energy security by reducing reliance on Russian energy resources. E. Rinkēvičs expressed satisfaction that the Baltic states' synchronisation efforts with Europe are on schedule. These decisions represent a significant step towards enhancing regional energy security and competitiveness.
In terms of regional security, the President believes that Russia would remain the most serious and immediate threat to Euro-Atlantic security in the near future. Therefore, the primary focus now is on ensuring the readiness of NATO forces and capabilities and the need for NATO's European allies to move together towards a defence investment of 2.5% and above. This is in line with the approach already taken by the three Baltic states, which have set an example for other NATO members.
"I am confident that the United States will continue to be a strategic partner, which is the cornerstone of transatlantic cooperation and NATO," E. Rinkēvičs said. At the same time, everyone must work towards a robust defence sector and the minimisation of supply chains across the NATO Alliance.
During the meeting, the President of Latvia reiterated that Ukraine is our first line of defence. Ukraine needs the support of all NATO members. No discussion on Ukraine's future is acceptable without Ukraine.
The situation in Georgia was also discussed. E. Rinkēvičs stated that the Baltic states should demonstrate solidarity with the people of Georgia to pursue justice and restore Georgia's future European Union membership prospects. The violent repression of peaceful protesters by the Georgian law enforcement authorities is unacceptable.
The meeting adopted a joint statement by the Presidents of the Baltic states.

So far this year, 46 cruise ships have visited the Port of Klaipėda. Five more cruise ships are expected in September and one in October and December each, the Klaipėda Seaport Authority said on Friday.
“After the pandemic years and turmoil in Baltic cruise shipping due to the threat of war, we are finally experiencing growth, and the port is once again becoming more attractive to international tourism,” Algis Latakas, the port’s CEO, said in a press release
The Amadea, due to arrive on December 8, will be the first Christmas cruise to visit Lithuania. It will bring 600 German tourists with all tickets already sold.
According to the port, 63 ships have already registered to visit Klaipėda next year, 10 of which will be visiting the port city for the first time.
To accommodate future developments in the Baltic Sea, Klaipeda Port recently announced an international tender for the reconstruction of quays and dredging works.
According to the port, the quays of the Smeltė peninsula will be reconstructed and adapted for the handling, assembly, and storage of wind turbines. The planned area for the installation infrastructure is 21ha. The length of the newly reconstructed quays is approximately 346m (in a continuous line). The depth near the quays will be 12m.
“To satisfy the growing demand for wind turbine assembly, loading, and wind farm servicing, the Port of Klaipeda is developing the necessary infrastructure and inviting companies to be a part of this project,“ said director general of the port authority Algis Latakas.
In May 2022, an investment agreement was signed between the Klaipeda State Seaport Authority and Klaipeda Stevedoring Company KLASCO to develop the port infrastructure required for the planned development of offshore wind farms.
To accommodate the growing demand for wind turbine pre-assembly, loading, and wind farm servicing, the Port of Klaipeda is building the necessary infrastructure. The design project for the reconstruction of quays and dredging is already prepared.
This means that the ship’s crew, at the port’s request, no longer lists Klaipėda as its final destination, according to Latakas.
“We managed to arrange for Klaipėda to be taken off the ship's documents,” he told BNS.
The ship, which was damaged in a storm, will name its new destination once it finds a port where it can unload its explosive cargo, Latakas said.
The Marine Traffic website shows that the Ruby is still in the North Sea, off the Norwegian coast, with no destination currently listed.
While the ship is no longer officially heading to Klaipėda, it remains unclear if it will come to the port for repairs, according to the port CEO.
Earlier reports indicated that Vakarų Laivų Gamykla (Western Shipyard, VLG), a Lithuanian shipbuilding and repairing group controlled by Estonia’s BLRT Grupp, won a repair contract in early September.
“Once the cargo is unloaded, the question will be what options there are, which shipyards could accept the ship for repairs. Klaipėda is not ruled out,” Latakas said.
Lithuanian authorities previously said that the ship would not be allowed to enter Klaipėda with its explosive cargo, but the port could accept the vessel for repairs once it is empty.
Earlier in September, Ruby, which was transporting around 20,000 tons of ammonium nitrate from Kandalaksha in Russia to Las Palmas in Spain, requested permission to enter Klaipėda Port to unload its cargo and undergo repairs. It was reported that the ship’s hull, propeller, and rudder had been damaged in a storm.

Statistics showed that the number of customers coming to cafés and restaurants in the centre of Klaipėda was steadily decreasing. In a bid to address this, parking in the city’s Old Town is now free from 12:00 till 14:00 every day. Normally, an hour in this zone costs 1.5 euros.
“I heard that friends decided to have coffee and paid more for parking than for the coffee. It was an abnormal situation. Maybe this will change in the future, but the two hours are already working and working very well,” says Klaipėda Mayor Arvydas Vaitkus.
Entrepreneurs hope that the new parking rules will help attract more customers.
“Our Old Town is so small that it’s a shame to come by car. So, I would suggest leaving the cars near the Old Town,” says Tomas Maziliauskas, a representative of the Turgaus Food Hall.
“It’s easier for me to invite friends to the Old Town at lunchtime. If we used to try to meet somewhere outside the Old Town, now we don’t avoid the Old Town cafés,” admits a resident of the port city.
Another novelty in Klaipėda from this year is the pillow tax of one euro per person per night charged to the city’s visitors.
“There is already that tourist tax, the pillow tax, in many places in Europe and not only in Europe. [...] Neither one nor two euros, which have already been introduced in Vilnius, Kaunas, and Palanga, will have a significant impact,” says Romena Savickienė, director of Klaipėda Tourism Information Centre.
Accommodation businesses say that the tax is easy to administer, and the benefits are expected.
“We have decided to include the pillow tax in the price. [...] Increased guest traffic is the end result that is desirable from the business side. If money is invested in tourism development and promotion, we would like to see the results,” says Viktorija Gudelė, director of the Adler Aparthotel in Klaipėda.
According to the mayor, the city expects to collect around 400,000 euros annually from the pillow tax.
“We will spend this amount together, identifying the most needed areas for infrastructure improvements and possibly events,” Vaitkus notes.
