Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications
met with the heads of the companies implementing the Rail Baltica project in Lithuania and urged them to speed up the implementation of the project
The aim is to build the European railway line from Kaunas to Panevėžys as early as possible and to connect the Lithuanian and Polish sections at the same time
reports Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania
The meeting with the management of LTG Infra
the company of the Lithuanian Railways Group (LTG) implementing the project in Lithuania
and representatives of the Management Board and Supervisory Board of RB Rail AS
discussed the progress of the Rail Baltica project and the next steps to be taken
Deputy Minister Glebovas stressed that in the current geopolitical context it is particularly important to increase the pace of the construction of the European railway line between Kaunas and Panevėžys
it is also crucial to prepare for the construction towards the border with Poland in the shortest possible time
“We believe that one of the ways to achieve this is to optimise operations and resources prioritising those parts and sections of the project that connect us to the West and enable train traffic
Rail Baltica is also pivotal for military mobility and national security
so we expect the responsible companies to take all possible measures to speed up the work,” said the Deputy Minister
Construction of the 46.3 km of the Rail Baltica’s main line crossing and civil engineering structures is currently underway in Lithuania on the section from Kaunas to Panevėžys
Construction work is expected to extend to 114 km by the end of this year
covering 43% of the entire first phase line
the national implementing body AB LTG Infra also committed to increase the pace of construction
To complete the remaining design work on this section
AB LTG Infra took over the design contract for the 78 km section from Kaunas to Ramygala from the Baltic joint venture RB Rail as early as 2024
which is implementing Rail Baltica in Lithuania
finalised operations that will have a lasting impact on accelerating the project
The management model has been changed following agreement between the parties concerned
which means that we are taking over the contracts in Lithuania from the Baltic joint venture
Among the most important achievements are the agreements with international partners
which allow us to continue with the construction of the Neris Bridge and the design of future sections,” said Arenijus Jackus
On the stretch from the Polish border to Jiesia (Kaunas)
planning of the territories has been completed
A contract for the design of this section is expected to be signed promptly
1.6 billion euros have been earmarked for the Rail Baltica project in Lithuania
The aim is to spend no less than one third of the European Union (EU) funds allocated for Rail Baltica this year
Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications Eugenijus Sabutis
who has met with the EU Commissioner for Transport and other senior officials in Brussels last week
stressed the need to increase European investment in Rail Baltica and other strategically important transport infrastructure projects in Lithuania
The implementation of Rail Baltica in both countries and its financing were also among the key issues discussed at a meeting of Lithuanian and Polish Transport Ministers in Warsaw earlier this year
Rail Baltica is the largest rail infrastructure project in the history of the Baltic States
The total length of the Rail Baltica line in the Baltics will reach 870 km: 392 km in Lithuania

PANEVEZYS (FIBA U19 World Championship for Women) - It doesn't have to fall particularly quiet inside the Panevezys Arena at the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women for the incessant instructions and chatter of China head coach Xin Li to be audible above anything and everything else.\r\nShe is almost in perpetual motion, constantly jumping up and down, as ...
as well as wandering right down past her entire bench at regular intervals
"This is why I am so very passionate about the game
"I just want to pass on this passion to my young players and for them to be successful."
Li has certainly set her team on the road to success
a win could see them cementing a place in the Quarter-Finals
Not that Coach Li is admitting to setting her team any specific goals
"We do not have any targets like making it to the last eight or the last four," insisted the play-caller
"We work on improving as players and as a team and so we are not looking ahead
because I know from my own experience that this is the best way to be at any tournament."
China look like they could be a dark horse
with a real appetite for hard work - both on and off the ball
China have missed the Quarter-Finals at the last three FIBA U19 World Championship for Women
You have to go back to 2005 in Tunisia for the last time they reached the last eight of the competition.
On that occasion, they finished with the bronze medal and at this juncture, you wouldn't exactly rule them out of achieving a repeat of that success.
However, it would take a brave person to even mention the word 'medal' as a possibility to the fiery coach Li and you can guarantee that none of the Chinese players are being allowed to even think that far ahead.
In a vote on Monday, Luomanas’ bid was backed by 20 members of the council, with three opposing it.
The 76-year-old politician was fielded to the city council by a political committee called For a Renewed Panevėžys.
The former mayor of Panevėžys City, Rytis Mykolas Račkauskas, had his mandate revoked by the Central Electoral Commission (VRK) almost two weeks ago, after he was found guilty of abusing his office. He was banned from civil service for three years.
Seimas Speaker Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen on Monday submitted a proposal to hold an early mayoral election in Panevėžys on 16 March 2025, the same day when Jonava is set to elect its new mayor. The Seimas will take the final decision on the election date.
The Electoral Code lays down that a mayor’s mandate is terminated before the expiry of the term of office once a conviction takes effect. The cancellation of a mayor’s mandate provides grounds for calling early elections.

Danny Williams and Ben Clarke gave The New Saints a deserved 3-0 away win in their UEFA Conference League play-off against Panevezys of Lithuania
In a dominant display from the Cymru Premier champions a reactive finish from Davies followed by a sensational solo effort from Williams gave TNS a well earned lead early in the second half
Substitute Ben Clark then added a third late on to give the Welsh side a giant advantage heading into the second leg
The result now means that a positive result next week at Park Hall will see TNS become the first Welsh side to reach the group stages of a major European competition
It was a positive start from TNS as they looked to gain early dominance of the ball
a situation they’ve struggled to find themselves in during their previous European outings
The Welsh side had a number of early crossing opportunities out wide and from set pieces but were unable to test the Panevėžys keeper
The first real effort at goal came from Danny Williams in the 12th minute
however his speculative first time effort whistled wide of the post
who sit bottom of their league looked bereft of confidence as they failed to gain a foothold in the game
they looked to counter in quick bursts after regaining possession but never looked like troubling the TNS defence
TNS came closest to an opener in the 34th minute as Rory Holden made Vytautas Cerniauskascurling work in goal to keep the effort out with a diving save
Despite dominating the first half they were unable to break down the Lithuanian sides defence with both sides heading into the break goalless
They started the second half as they finished the first and it didn’t take them long to find the opener
Daniel Davies managing to instinctively flick home an effort following a corner
Nicolàs Gorobsov somehow managed to remain on the field receiving only a yellow card following a dangerous two-footed lunging challenge on Jack Bodenham
Craig Harrison’s men found themselves two ahead in the 64th minute with Danny Williams brilliant solo effort
The winger danced his way into the box before firing home from a tight angle to double their advantage
The home side came close to halving the deficit as substitute Jovan Čadjenović’s header from a wide free-kick dropped inches wide of the post
TNS punished them further as substitute Ben Clarke added a third in second half added time as he tapped home from close range to seal a perfect performance
They were able to maintain their clean sheet as the final whistle blew taking a huge advantage into the second leg at home next week

Maccabi arrived at the LFF stadium in Vilnius for the EUROPA League 3rd qualifying round first leg against Lithuanian champions FK Panevezys aiming for a good result ahead of next week’s return leg
Maccabi’s coach Zarko Lazetic who could face his former club TSC Backa Topola in the Play Off following yesterday’s draw at UEFA Headquarters
will try and emulate last season’s achievement by reaching the EUROPA League group stages
made three changes from the side that suffered a late defeat to Steaua Bucharest that ended any champions league dreams
Roi Mishapti kept his place in goal while the defense also remained unchanged as Tyrese Asante and Raz Shlomo were named as the two central defenders with Idan Nachmias and Ofir Davidzada completing the back four on the right and left respectively
Maccabi’s engine room also remained unchanged as Joris van Overeem
Gabi Kanichowsky and Dor Peretz were named as the midfield trio
Sagiv Jehezkel who made his debut appearance in Budapest last week made his debut start
while new signing Hisham Layous was given his first outing in a Maccabi shirt on the opposite flank
who returned from international duty at the Olympic Games in Paris
led the line upfront for his first appearance of the season
Maccabi’s other four Israeli internationals Roy Revivo
Ido Shahar and Elad Madmon were also named amongst the substitutes
Madmon who was signed in January from Hapoel Hadera but only joined now
was hoping to make his Maccabi debut as was new signing from Bordeaux Issouf Sissokho
Henry Addo and Matan Baltaxa were the other substitutes that Lazetic named on the bench
Maccabi couldn’t have asked for a better start especially from their debutants as Dor Peretz scored a spectacular goal with three minutes on the clock
Hisham Layous dribbled into the box from the left before cutting the ball back for Sagiv Jehezkel who teed up Peretz on the edge of the area
Maccabi’s captain on the night blasted a right foot shot that rocketed into the top corner and went in off the crossbar giving the keeper no chance
In the seventh minute Idan Nachmias rose to meet Gabi Kanichowsky’s corner with a powerful header which was punched away by Vytautas Cerniauskas
Two minutes later the Panevezys keeper could do nothing to deny Maccabi’s second
A slick exchange between Nachmias and Peretz saw the midfielder turn provider with a perfectly timed cross that allowed Dor Turgeman to flick the ball home and open his account for the season
The hosts came close in the 15th minute as Maccabi’s defense struggled to clear allowing Ernestas Veliulis to latch on the loose ball but fail to keep his shot down and fire over
Referee Aliyar Aghayev cautioned Tyrese Asante in the 22nd minute for a foul on Cheikhou Dieng just inside Maccabi’s half
Turgeman could have scored a second in the 26th minute but his effort from the center of the area lacked power and was easily collected by the keeper
Right on the half hour mark Turgeman swapped roles with Peretz and almost assisted a goal as his dummy released Peretz through on goal
But Peretz’s attempt was blocked by a combination of the rushing keeper and his defenders
Joris van Overeem who dominated the midfield was struck in the face by Noel Mbo who was consequently booked in the 37th minute
Just as the fourth official raised his sign for 2 minutes of added time
Raz Shlomo required medical treatment for colliding with an opponent in mid-air while Roi Mishpati came off his line to punch the ball and clear the danger
Maccabi began the second half just like they did with the first one as Turgeman fed Jehezkel on 51
But the pacy winger couldn’t get a clean shot as he sliced his effort wide of the target
Mbo almost exploited a mistake in Maccabi’s defense five minutes later as he picked the ball inside the center circle before shrugging off Shlomo to race through
But Asante tracked back and blocked the Panevezys forward before he could get a shot on target allowing Mishpati to collect
A minute after the hour mark the hosts were awarded a free kick near the corner of the area as Linas Kimavvicius was given the time and space to meet Jeffrey Sarpong cross but send his header wide
In the 64th minute Layous’s cut-back found Peretz in the box
only for a Panevezys’ defender to clear for a corner
This was Layous’ final contribution as Lazetic made his first change seconds later by replacing him with Osher Davida
Panevezys cut the deficit in the 70th as Sivert Gussias exploited a mix-up between Ofir Davidzada and Shlomo
Gussias then charged into the box before dinking the ball over the advancing Mishpati
Maccabi came close to restore their two-goal lead on 75 as Turgeman slid the ball to Kanichowsky whose effort was blocked by Cerniauskas
Lazetic reacted with a triple substitution in the 77th minute introducing Roy Revivo
Inside injury time the hosts increased the pressure in a bid to score a late equalizer
Maccabi defense couldn’t clear the danger as the ball fell to Markas Beneta whose shot forced Mishpati to turn it over the crossbar and secure the win

The New Saints took a significant step towards reaching the league stage of the UEFA Conference League with a 3-0 away win over FK Panevėžys in the first leg of their play-off tie in Lithuania.
All three goals arrived in the second half following an even first period in which Rory Holden came closest as he forced a diving save from Panevezys goalkeeper Vytautas Cerniauskas.
The deadlock was broken seven minutes after the break when Holden’s corner from the right was flicked on by Adrian Cieślewicz
with Danny Davies arriving at the back post to head the ball home.
TNS were left furious four minutes later when a reckless two-footed challenge from Nicolás Gorobsov on Jack Bodenham only resulted in a yellow card for the Panevezys midfielder
even after a VAR check from the referee.
The lunge did not get any better upon multiple viewings and Gorobsov could certainly count himself very lucky to still be on the pitch.
Not that it mattered to the JD Cymru Premier champions
The goal was a piece of magic from Dan Williams
escaped from two Panevezys players in one neat turn
drove into the box and placed a perfect strike into the far bottom corner.
The third goal arrived in the first minute of stoppage time as substitutes Josh Pask and Ben Clark combined for the latter to find the net
Pask found space on the left hand side and crossed for Clark who finished from close range to wrap up the win.
TNS are now firmly in control of the tie ahead of the second leg at Park Hall next Thursday (KO 18:30)
with the chance to become the first Welsh side to reach the league stage of a major European competition well within their grasp.
some great goals and everyone contributed massively
We’ve got to make sure our emotions are in check and we don’t take anything for granted.

Maccabi faces Lithuania champions FK Panevezys tomorrow for the Europa League 3rd qualifying round first leg at the LFF stadium in Vilnius
Prior to departure the team held a training session at Kiryat Shalom with new signing Issouf Sissokho training for the first time since joining the club
The team then headed to Ben Gurion airport before taking off to Warsaw and then continuing to the Lithuanian capital
the construction of Lithuania's first dedicated electric vehicle charging park began in Panevėžys district
considering the overall number of electric vehicles in the country
the park will be able to charge up to 40 electric vehicles simultaneously
head of "Eldrive Lithuania," stated that this charging park will be the first of its kind in Lithuania and the Baltic region
with a total project value exceeding two million euros
The park is expected to start operations by the end of this year
"Our company and the entire country are taking a significant and important step in developing the electric vehicle charging infrastructure on the main roads of Lithuania
designed to meet the primary needs of electric vehicle drivers – to charge their vehicles quickly and without queues
We are very pleased with the partners who have joined the project and with the construction starting today," said T
The charging park will cover a total area of 1.5 hectares
including a 318 square meter building that will house "Caffeine" and "Narvesen" cafes
along with rest and work areas and restrooms
the first phase of the project will be completed with the addition of five more 400 kW stations
dependent on market conditions and the growth of the electric vehicle fleet in the country
will see the installation of 20 more high-power charging points and several charging stations for heavy vehicles and buses
"Eldrive" plans to open and complete the first phase of the charging park on the Panevėžys bypass by the end of this year
head of the developing company "Kenova," said that the project is unique not only in its purpose but also in its technological solutions
"We are very pleased with this joint project with 'Eldrive.' It is indeed an extraordinary project and structure
It is a challenge for us and the engineers
especially since there will be 20 very fast charging stations requiring a lot of energy
We are looking forward to the results and believe that this is the first of many such parks in our country," said K
One of the main partners in this project is "Reitan Convenience Lithuania," the company that operates the "Caffeine" and "Narvesen" cafe chains in Lithuania and other countries
said that they were very interested in the concept proposed by "Eldrive" and decided to join the project
"'Eldrive' approached us with a very intriguing project
'Caffeine' and 'Narvesen' cafes will operate in these charging parks
Our company's goal is to expand not only in cities but also in places like this
According to the head of "Reitan Convenience Lithuania," the menus of both cafes will be adapted to these locations: "Our customers will also find some new items – we will complement our traditional menu with new snacks
we are very much looking forward to the opening of this facility and believe in its success."
Tamašauskas mentioned that similar charging parks already exist in Europe
and their development is progressing quite rapidly
Charging an electric vehicle takes from a few minutes to a little over an hour
so it is natural that there should be facilities for people to spend their time
where we have cold winters and many cloudy days
We also observe consumer habits that have formed over the last fifteen years
Traditional fuel stations have now become places where people drink coffee or eat
we aim to adapt to this trend as well."
Tamašauskas emphasized that charging parks are one of the most important development directions for "Eldrive": "The distribution of charging points in Lithuania is very uneven
We have many charging stations in major cities but very few on main roads or in regions
we invest heavily and will continue to invest in regions and national highways
as these are particularly important locations for electric vehicle drivers
especially during long journeys when people mostly use public charging stations
we plan to open several more such charging parks
We plan to establish up to 10 such charging parks across the country."
there are over 13,000 registered electric vehicles in Lithuania
and it is projected that their number will reach several hundred thousand by 2030
There are currently over 1,000 slow (AC) charging stations and about 300 fast (DC) charging stations in the country
there were 333 slow and just 55 fast charging stations in total

According to the initial data from the Central Electoral Commission
having received 49.71 percent of the vote and beating ex-Social Democrat MP Liudas Jonaitis (48.67 percent)
Joniškis needed a new mayoral election after Vitalijus Gailius was elected to the Seimas last year
residents of Panevėžys elected Loreta Masiliūnienė as their new mayor
The member of the Atsinaujinantys Panevėžys political committee received 71.73 percent of the vote on Sunday
and 27.51 percent backed Ignas Gaižiūnas of the conservative Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD)
Panevėžys had to hold the election as its previous mayor Rytis Mykolas Rackaukas was found guilty in a criminal case
With a goal in hand following last week's first leg, Maccabi Tel Aviv aim to finish the job on Thursday evening, as they complete their Europa League qualifying tie against plucky Panevezys
Whichever side progresses from the third round will meet Serbia's FK Backa Topola in the playoffs later this month
After a first-leg clash that took place in Vilnius rather than Panevezys' more modest Aukstaitija Stadium
Maccabi Tel Aviv left Lithuania with a 2-1 first-leg lead
setting themselves on the road to victory as early as the third minute
Dor Peretz struck first, before Dor Turgeman soon added another to put Zarko Lazetic's side in control; however, substitute Sivert Gussias replied in the 70th minute and kept the home team in the contest
Maccabi have experienced a mixed start to their 2024-25 campaign
as after beating Maccabi Petah Tikva to win last month's Israel Super Cup they then exited the Champions League qualifiers at the hands of Romania's FCSB
As a result, the Tel Aviv club turned their focus to Europa League qualifying, having made the knockout stage of last term's Conference League under former boss Robbie Keane
Current coach Lazetic can now set up a meeting with his old side Backa Topola in the playoffs
though Maccabi must hold their UEFA 'home' games in Hungary this year
While Thursday's hosts occasionally appear in European group stages
Panevezys are competing in the qualifiers for just a fourth time
having been established in their current incarnation less than a decade ago
This year, Stijn Vreven's side claimed a 4-1 aggregate victory over HJK in the Champions League's first qualifying round
before being beaten by Jagiellonia Bialystok and suffering demotion to UEFA's second-tier tournament
a club formed from the ashes of seven-time Lithuanian champions FK Ekranas are still just two steps away from making their debut in the group phase
That would guarantee at least eight high-profile matches in the Europa League's new format
and even losing out to Maccabi Tel Aviv will result in a shot at the Conference League playoffs
Panevezys occupy last place in the 10-team A Lyga this season
with the reigning champions enduring a dismal defence of their title
Most of Maccabi Tel Aviv's team should remain unchanged in Hungary, as they have had a full week's rest prior to starting their Israeli Premier League defence; however, Dutch defender Tyrese Asante must serve a suspension for accumulated bookings
Panevezys boss Stijn Vreven may be tempted to freshen up a side that have been far busier than Maccabi so far this summer
After scoring in the first leg and then being promoted to the league lineup on Sunday, Norwegian forward Sivert Gussias is pushing hard for a start ahead of former Gillingham striker Noel Mbo
Maccabi Tel Aviv possible starting lineup:Mishipati; Nachmias
Panevezys possible starting lineup:Cerniauskas; Rasimavicius
Though they will not be on home turf, Maccabi Tel Aviv should have enough nous to negotiate the second leg of their third-round tie and progress to the Europa League playoffs. For data analysis of the most likely results, scorelines and more for this match please click here
The New Saints qualified for the league stage of the UEFA Conference League following a 0-0 draw in the second leg of their Play-Off against FK Panevezys
which secured a 3-0 victory on aggregate.
Never before had a JD Cymru Premier club progressed from the qualifying stages to reach the group/league of a major European competition
but the Saints made history at Park Hall.
With such a convincing lead from the first leg in Lithuania
there was no need for the Saints to go all-out attack but they had the better of the chances in the first half as Jack Bodenham headed straight at the Panevezys goalkeeper and Adrian Cieslewicz sent a volley over the bar.
A second yellow card for Panevezys defender Rokas Rasimavicius just after the hour mark was celebrated like a goal by TNS supporters as they knew that qualification beckoned.
The Saints should have perhaps won the game as Cieslewicz
Ben Clark and Rory Holden all came close to finding the net but the final whistle blew to confirm an aggregate victory for Craig Harrison’s side.
TNS will discover their UEFA Conference League league stage opponents in the draw in Monaco on Friday 30 August.
Craig Harrison told Sgorio: “We’ve done loads of really good things at TNS but this is by far the best and biggest achievement for me personally
“The biggest credit I can give to the boys is that we’ve got a really together group
The lads who aren’t playing are supporting the other lads
and this is what happens when you believe and work hard

Gentvilas emphasised that there are few plots of this size in Lithuania

“I believe we wouldn’t reserve the land if there wasn’t serious interest
There are few plots of this size in Lithuania.”
In a bid to attract potential foreign investors to the defence sector
the government on Wednesday agreed to set aside three land plots in Panevėžys District for this purpose
These plots cover over 200 hectares of state-owned land
a cattle breeding company slated for privatisation
The company is now owned by the centralised public property manager Turto Bankas (Property Bank)
“We continue to look for investors and bring them in; Lithuania remains interested in the defence industry
It’s a challenge; you can see how many processes are involved
If we still have some plots available – and we do – we want them allocated for investments,” Armonaitė told BNS
“It’s still early days,” she added when asked if the potential investor is showing serious interest
the state land was leased to Genetiniai Ištekliai on the condition that it is a state enterprise
meaning the state would reclaim the land once the company is privatised
not all of this land is currently being used for its intended purpose
Two defence industry investors have announced their plans in Lithuania this year
the government signed a memorandum of understanding with the US defence giant Northrop Grumman
which intends to set up a 30 mm ammunition production line at the state-owned Giraitė Armament Factory in Kaunas District by mid-2026
Germany’s defence giant Rheinmetall also plans to invest over 180 million euros in a 155 mm artillery ammunition plant in the northern district of Radviliškis
with the project expected to create at least 150 new jobs

The second floor has a transformable space that can be adapted for various events
The third floor is dedicated to a permanent exhibition of Eidrigevičius’ works
while the exhibition hall on the fourth floor will host temporary exhibitions
visitors will be able to see the museum’s first exhibition ICON-O-STASYS

FOOTIE fans were left stunned after a horror tackle went unpunished in the Europa Conference League qualifiers on Thursday night
The horrific challenge occurred during Welsh side The New Saints FC's trip to Lithuania to play FK Panevezys in the first leg of their Europa Conference League qualifier
Panevezys midfielder Nicolas Gorbosov recklessly put in a stomaching-churning two-footed challenge on TNS defender Jack Bodenham
leapt off the ground with both feet as Bodenham tried to play the ball at the touchline with his left foot
And the Argentine stamped down with his studs showing as the 24-year-old passed the ball
his left leg wasn't fully planted as Gorbosov's horrific attempt of a challenge connected with him
And much to the shock of TNS fans and players alike, the video assistant referee didn't deem the tackle worthy of a red card.
The challenge went viral on social media and received a slew of comments, with one viewer saying: "Deary me.
"As clear a red you’ll see for a decade."
Another said: "Literally jumps in 2 footed
not in control…how is this not a sending off on several levels?"
One remarked: "Shocking tackle."
Another chimed in: "Clearest red you’ll ever see."
TNS moved to within touching distance of the group stages of Europe's third-ranked club competition with a 3-0 win in Lithuania
Second-half goals from Daniel James Davies
Daniel Williams and Ben Clark put the club on the brink of Welsh history
Should they avoid a four-goal defeat in their return leg at Park Hall next week
they'll become the FIRST-EVER Welsh side to qualify for the group stage of a European club competition

The New Saints took a 3-0 advantage from the away leg against Lithuanian side FK Panevezys in Vilnius last night as they aim to become the first domestic Welsh club to reach the group stages of a European competition
Danny Davies’ header put the Cymru Premier champions in front early in the second half
with a well-taken goal from Dan Williams doubling their lead before substitute Ben Clark struck a third in stoppage-time
much of the talk after the game was not about TNS standing on the brink of making history but one of the worst fouls ever seen on a football pitch going unpunished with a red card by the match referee
Despite the ref consulting with VAR watching a replay on a screen at the side of the pitch
Nicolas Gorobsov escaped with just a yellow card for the horror challenge on The New Saints’ Jack Bodenham
The FK Panevėžys player launched himself two footed off the ground at the TNS player and to the amazement off those who have seen it the referee only deemed it a yellow card
Many people took to X to voice their shock at how the player wasn’t shown red
Can’t believe this ! TNS in the @europacnfleague and the ref goes to VAR and it’s still not given 🤣🤣 #corrupt #twofooter pic.twitter.com/UIUbgaae3O

the two linesmen and the VAR team should all be banned for this
“The first duty is to ensure players’ safety and if none of the above think that this is dangerous then they are not fit to officiate
The first duty is to ensure players’ safety and if none of the above think that this is dangerous then they are not fit to officiate. #Gorobsov should be banned too. Worst challenge in years. #TNS https://t.co/LknjxgFQTb

The New Saints’ attentions will once more turn to their European commitments as they travel to Lithuanian side FK Panevėžys in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League Play-Off tie on Thursday evening (KO 17:30 BST)
Victory in this tie would see the Saints qualify for the league (formerly group) stage of the competition
becoming the first Welsh side ever to do so.
Craig Harrison’s side kicked off their European campaign this summer with a 4-1 aggregate win over FK Decic in the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round
but subsequent defeats to Ferencváros (7-1 on aggregate) and Petrocub (1-0 on aggregate) have seen them slip into the UEFA Conference League.
The narrow nature of that loss to Petrocub will provide some hope
but there was certainly a frustration from Harrison and his players that they could not find a goal in the second leg at Park Hall last week.
A first half red card for Jordan Williams – for needlessly elbowing an opponent during a TNS attack – did not help matters and the winger will be suspended for this play-off tie.
that may encourage Harrison to turn to Sion Bradley
who netted a hat-trick as the Saints got their JD Cymru Premier title defence off to a flying start with a 4-1 away win over Flint Town United last Friday.
the 2023/24 JD Cymru Premier Player of the Season
has been used sparingly in Europe so far – playing a total of just 36 minutes across four games in the UEFA Champions League before not even coming off the bench in either of the UEFA Europa League legs against Petrocub.
maybe he should play more minutes than what he’s played,” Harrison said about Bradley following the league win over Flint.
He’s just come in tonight and showed his quality.”
Opponents FK Panevėžys were only founded nine years ago and won the Lithuanian top-flight title for the first time in 2023
but in a remarkable change of fortunes they currently find themselves bottom of the table two thirds of the way through the 2024 campaign
Former Belgium international Stijn Vreven took over as manager at the end of May following the departure of Gino Lettieri
but has struggled to turn the tide – Panevėžys have won just three of their last 10 league games.
they marked their UEFA Champions League debut with victory over HJK in the first qualifying round but heavy aggregate defeats to Jagiellonia Białystok in the second qualifying round and Maccabi Tel Aviv in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round have since followed.
Three of Panevėžys’ squad have been capped by the Lithuanian national team
while Latvian defender Kaspars Dubra played against Cymru in UEFA EURO 2024 qualification.
TNS will have a fond memories of visiting Lithuania
having won 5-0 away at FK Kauno Žalgiris on their way to a 10-1 aggregate triumph in the UEFA Europa Conference League second qualifying round in 2021.
“It’s not often in football that you get a second bite of the cherry,” Harrison said after last week’s UEFA Europa League exit.
“The final whistle has gone in this competition
but we’re in another competition now so we’ve got a great opportunity to take all of the negatives and make sure we take all the negatives and learning curves from this tie and take it into the Conference League.”
A 0-0 home draw in their second leg against Panevėžys was enough as The New Saints became the first Cymru Premier side to qualify for a major UEFA European competition
After securing a 3-0 aggregate lead last week in Lithuania the Welsh champions secured history at Park Hall as they booked their place amongst Europe’s elite clubs
In a quiet affair neither side could find a winning goal as the visitors went down to 10 men
with Rokas Rasimavicius shown a second yellow card in the 62 minute
TNS are projected to be in pot four for The Europa Conference League draw meaning they could potentially play Chelsea
The club will find out their opponents in Friday’s draw in Monaco
The New Saints started strong as they weren’t happy to sit on their already commanding lead
Adrian Cieslewicz had an early effort at goal testing the Panevėžys from the edge of the area
There was an early change for TNS as Jordan Marshall was replaced by Josh Pask due to an injury sustained during an attacking forward run
The home side looked comfortable in the early stages of the half only having to defend a number of corners that never looked like troubling them
The visitors began to gain control of possession as the minutes ticked towards half time
Winger Cheikou Dieng had a volleyed attempt at goal from the edge of the area that called Connor Roberts into action before the ball was cleared
Both sides found themselves level at the break on the night as neither could find the opening goal
with Craig Harrison’s men 45 minutes away from an historic place in European football
TNS had a golden chance to kill the tie off as they pounced on a defensive error early in the second half
Danny Redmond could only fire his effort over the bar with the keeper scrambling to cover his goal
The job was made easier for the hosts when Rokas Rasimavicius was shown a second yellow card in the 62nd minute to leave the Lithuanian side with 10 men
Despite the man advantage they were unable to add to their dominant first leg lead
The final whistle signalling their place in The Europa Conference League for the first time in their history
Adrian Cieslewicz (Sion Bradley 89′)
Sivert Gussiås (Andrii Karvatsky 79′)
Cheikou Dieng (Nemanja Bosancic 89′)
Ernestas Veliulis (Jeffrey Sarpong 70′)
Yellow cards: Jovan Cadjenovic 7′ Rokas Rasimavicius 33′

On the bench Lazetic named goalkeeper Roi Melika, Avishay Cohen, Roy Revivo, Eran Zahavi, Dan Biton, Yonas Malede, Elad Madmon, Henry Addo, Issouf Sissokho, Matan Baltaxa, Ido Shahar and Nir Bitton.
Dor Turgeman threatened to draw first blood inside the second minute as the 20-year-old striker created himself the time and space on the edge Panevezys penalty area but his shot sailed high and wide. Both teams struggled to create a clear chance but in the 14th minute Maccabi came centimeters away from breaking the deadlock. Turgeman slipped the ball to Dor Peretz who timed his run into the box before sending a toe poke that flashed across the face of goal and narrowly missed the target.
Inside injury time Davida found Turgeman in the box as the forward managed turn shield the ball in an attempt to pick Peretz’s run before the defense managed to clear for a corner. The resulting corner saw Maccabi take the lead as the ball fell to Peretz who nodded it home to increase the lead to 3-1 on aggregate.
In the 70th minute the tie was put to bed as Peretz’s cross was flicked by Turgeman but blocked by a Panevezys defender before Jehezkel pounced on the rebound to fire in Maccabi’s third goal.

During the preparation for the architectural competition, City Council conducted research concluding that two-thirds of respondents either only pass by the square or spend less than 30 minutes there. Either way, visitors would rather go to restaurants and cafés on the square’s perimeter than spend time in the central part. Furthermore, many respondents have concluded that the existing square was satisfactory - only some kind of infrastructural improvements would have been beneficial.

Nazi hunter and commemoration activist Efraim Zuroff called the production of “Our People” near Vilnius “major progress” toward facing the country’s history
(JTA) — A Lithuanian state theater staged a play about local complicity in the Holocaust
in what commemoration activists called a milestone on the path to recognizing the country’s complete history
The Juozas Miltinis Drama Theater in Panevėžys, some 70 miles north of Vilnius, staged over the weekend the world premiere of a theatrical adaptation of the 2016 book “Our People” by the Israeli Nazi hunter Efraim Zuroff and the Lithuanian author Ruta Vanagaite
which was so controversial that the theater’s former managing director resigned during its production
The book generated a storm in Lithuania also because in it Vanagaite explored her family’s complicity in the exploitation of murdered Jews
Local complicity is a taboo for many Lithuanians who view their nation solely as a victim of Nazism and communism
In 2017, Vanagaite’s former publisher, Alma Littera, recalled all her books amid resentment toward her led by ultra-nationalists and some mainstream former politicians
The agitation against Vanagaite caused her to leave Lithuania
The theatrical adaptation begins in the Seventh Fort
a Holocaust-era killing site near Kaunas that is now an events venue despite protests by Jewish groups and activists
The opening scene features a couple inquiring about getting married and hosting a wedding reception on the grounds
“The fact that a major theater group is putting on this show today shows major progress in the road toward accepting and dealing with the Holocaust history of Lithuania,” Zuroff said
JTA has documented Jewish history in real-time for over a century

The node consists of an international passenger station in the western part of Panevėžys and an additional railway stretch of nearly 23 kilometres crossing the city
Tomas Rutkauskas of the Panevėžys District Public Interest Protection Group says they oppose the choice of what they see as an irrational node option that goes against the law
“We see other options that are much cheaper
and would definitely be acceptable to the public,” he told BNS
Local residents fear that more than two dozen residential houses will be demolished during the construction of the railway
and there are concerns about the fate of the narrow-gauge railway
Three options for the development of the European-gauge rail network in Panevėžys District were presented to the public last year
estimated to cost 69 million euros and 73 million euros
envisaged a railway line running close to Panevėžys with a passenger station in Gustonys
without an additional section through the city
Panevėžys district residents favour one of these cheaper options
including a 392-kilometre stretch in Lithuania
The Transport Ministry says the entire Rail Baltica project linking the Baltic countries to Europe is scheduled to be completed by 2030

You're often told to not believe everything you see on Wikipedia and there is no better example for that statement than the time a club signed a player based off his profile on the site
snapped up Barkley Miguel Panzo and announced his signing on their official website
"The player began his professional career in England at the Queens Park Rangers club," a statement read before it was deleted
representing the QPR team in the Championship
the footballer had to play with Sarlat Marcillac
Les Sables-d'Olonne and Orleans."
Panzo is indeed a real footballer and has a blue tick on Instagram
But it's quite clear that he had did not score 45 goals in 36 games playing for QPR in the Championship
A previous edit on the page said he scored 24 goals in 36 appearances
which suggests something fishy had been going on
Neil Warnock was Rs manager at the time and they had the likes of Jamie Mackie
Helder Helguson and Rob Hulse as attacking options
Although he did spend some time at QPR as a youngster
there is certainly no official record of Panzo turning out for the first-team
The page also claims he was capped three times for Angola in AFCON qualifiers but again there's no evidence whatsoever
Northwood and Cambridge City as well as a slew of lower league French sides
According to Transfer Markt
Panzo left Panevėžys for Vittoriosa Stars of Malta in January 2019 and has also played for Slovenian side NK Krsko and Mauerwerk in Austria
He's reportedly been without a club since July 2021 but the 29-year-old has been working with the the UNFP - the union of professional footballers - as a content creator in his native France
Panevėžys took down the statement and apologised for incorrect information published
Miguel Panzo emphatically denied that he edited his page and says the deal was already done
"This page was amendable by anyone and I still don't know if someone really had fun making me a serial scorer or if the translation from English into Slovenian confused things," he told the UNFP in a feature on him
"But the question is not there: when the networks started to ignite
I had already signed my contract after a trial and two friendly matches after which the club decided to hire me
Because I had proven my worth on the pitch
never in pro and I challenge anyone to prove that I could make people believe otherwise
The mistake I made was to underestimating the malevolence of people who talked about me without knowing me

Water washed away one of the floodgates in Ekranas dam on Tuesday morning
Witnesses have reported traffic jams forming on a street near the dam
a spokesman for the Panevėžys County Police HQ
but it is controlled by several police officers
“Workers have been called to the scene and are expected to clean up the broken dam
Police crews are on site and residents have been informed about the incident
the Nevėžis River is slightly flooded and the water is rising slowly
and we are contacting the owners to move them away,” Martinaitis told LRT.lt
Warning messages have also been sent to residents’ mobile phones
told the news portal JP that firefighters are also working at the scene
“We are monitoring the situation and if the water in the Nevėžis River rises substantially
but it has not flooded any houses,” Vaiginytė commented
In a Facebook message posted at around 10:30
the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service said that the water level in the Nevėžis River was 215 cm above the zero-mark of the water measuring station and continued to rise
“It is predicted that the water level may rise to a dangerous level (400 cm)
It is likely that the Nevėžis will overflow its banks at the lowest point,” it said
the flow of water out of the dam has been somewhat stabilized by noon
and now we are trying to stop it,” Panevėžys Vice Mayor Valdemaras Jakštas told BNS
According to the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service
as of 12:30 the water level in the Nevėžis River near Panevėžys was 354 cm above the station zero
The threshold of 450 cm is considered to be emergency level
the river banks are flooded in the lowest places
The water level rise has slowed down as the situation has stabilised
so the risk of buildings being submerged has decreased
but residents need to remain vigilant and monitor the situation
The tidal wave is moving down the river,” the service said
