hasn’t traditionally featured in its image but this may soon change a vineyard has taken root just below the historic slopes where vines once thrived centuries ago Local place names around Diekirch still bear testimony to the area’s winemaking past especially on the sun-drenched hillsides of the Herrenberg explained that the location is ideal for viticulture thanks to its full southern exposure The hillside benefits from natural air circulation with wind sweeping through from the Sauer valley To enhance this airflow and reduce the risk of fungal diseases the group installed mini-terraces across the slope He also noted the exceptional soil conditions rich in limestone – a key factor for grape cultivation The vineyard spans 30 acres and features four grape varieties they are all part of familiar grape families These varieties are known as fungus-resistant grapes meaning they require little to no pesticide treatment and therefore qualify as organic – with Germany leading the way in their development The surrounding cover crops further contribute by acting as a natural CO₂ sink reducing the vineyard's environmental impact Konnen also highlighted additional ecological benefits: the vineyard creates a habitat for bees and other insects Due to the reduced need for spraying and machinery pesticide use is expected to drop by 80% compared to conventional vineyards – helping to protect both soil and groundwater the wine will be marketed under the new “Bio Triple Plus” label The project receives financial and material support from the municipality of Diekirch and the Ministry of Agriculture Vineyard labour is managed by the association Gaart an Heem while the local association Al Dikkrich will handle promotion once the wine is bottled Konnen is confident that within three years the roughly 1,000 vines will yield enough grapes for a first batch of new wine Although a wine-making facility isn’t yet in place the project is operating under the working title “DiWäin” though it remains to be seen whether that name will appear on future labels A glass with Claude FrançoisWine columnBodega Ribas in Consell – the oldest winery of MallorcaThe bodega is still run by the same family that founded it in 1711 Alcohol smugglingCross-border alcohol smuggler jailed and fined €30,000Motorist stopped on Belgian motorway with nearly 400 litres of cheap liquor from Luxembourg, on which he had not paid customs duties Nightclubbing From slick dance venues to alternative vibesA round-up of dance floors in the Grand Duchy - fancy, intimate, chic, or dive bar, and their crowd and vibe Hospitality sectorPremiumLuxembourg’s fight to keep cafés alive The Horesca sector has recorded the closure of over 200 pubs and bistros in just a few years. You can chacek the full programme here In Remich you'll have to wait until 30 March for the cavalcade, whilst Wasserbillig celebrates the night before on 29 March with a 1.8km cavalcade distributing 1,500 kilos of sweets and 2,000 bretzels Petange is known to have one of the oldest Robbesscheier in the north will be celebrating Carnival all week from 15-23 February including making your own wooden masks in the sawmill Two new carnival cavalcades will take place this year. Lentz brought with him a number of ingredients harvested in the Grand Duchy to use in his recipes, including mushrooms and herbs, with help from La Provençale and Vatel Luxembourg. “I think they liked the fact we work with local produce. It’s a bit of a current trend in cooking in general. We also made it a point of honour not to waste anything, which is very important in this kind of competition,” Lentz said. Steve Lentz was assisted in the final by sous-chef Lucas Andrieux, who works as a sous-chef at Archibald de Prince, the eponymous establishment of the Bocuse d'Or Belgium winner. He is the former second-in-command at La Distillerie, in Bourglinster Castle - which is set to open up in Echternach in November. Born in Ettelbruck and raised in the sleepy village of Eppeldorf in the Ernz valley, Steve Lentz developed a taste for cooking at an early age. “It all started at a village fest,” he said. “The grandmothers always used to cook for the event, especially desserts. There was an absolutely delicious home-made pudding. So I wanted to find out how it was made and, one thing leading to another, I became an enthusiast.” he went on to work in a number of restaurants in the Mullerthal region one of the judges asked me if I would be interested in a teaching post at the Luxembourg Hotel and Tourism School (EHTL) but after seeing the motivation and passion of the young students when he was at hotel management school: “Demand was growing all the time But there was no one at the EHTL with specific training in this type of cuisine especially as my partner follows a plant-based diet.” Lentz is a true ambassador for plant-based cuisine in Luxembourg “You can do so many things with all the vegetables and spices at your disposal the vegan chefs were able to create dishes with totally different colours and tastes some people thought that this cuisine was just a fad we’ve come to realise that people who are trying to reduce their meat consumption are turning more towards vegan cuisine.” Asked whether he is getting ready to represent his country again next year he replied in the negative: “I give priority to my teaching career I was lucky enough to be able to prepare for the competition during the school holidays and I think it’s now up to young people to embark on such an adventure.” (This article first appeared in Virgule. So we’re going to do much the same thing as we did in Diekirch without being a carbon copy of the school that was designed 70 years ago A number of facilities that were missing at Diekirch are planned for GRIDX A bit like the other schools and colleges that have opened in recent years The number of students will be identical to the Diekirch campus but I think a lot of students will be interested in taking our courses So there will be the same courses and diplomas at GRIDX as at Diekirch We will start in September 2025 with four classes We’ll start with first-year students who have more theoretical than practical training it will take a few more months to build the necessary infrastructure Your school will be located in the same wing as the hotel and restaurants planned for the GRIDX complex As far as the hotel with its 133 rooms and suites is concerned that’s great for us because we’ll be able to be much more flexible when it comes to apprenticeships for young people in the hotel trade we are also planning to open a training restaurant like the one that already exists in Diekirch It seems the development of this southern campus is a great leap forward for EHTL The market in the hospitality sector - be it gastronomy hotels or tourism - is extremely dynamic and the supply of jobs far exceeds demand in Luxembourg is that we are taking a complementary approach to offer young people living in the south the same training courses as those in Diekirch which until now they could only follow by accepting very slow and arduous journeys or by staying in boarding schools are there any plans for boarding facilities on the south campus because we are in the process of developing our boarding facilities in the north I think a campus with good boarding capacity is enough This kind of facility always comes at a considerable cost So I prefer to have one good boarding facility in one place (This article first appeared in Virgule. She believes that the increased quality of life will have a ripple effect on everything else She even hopes that the changes will encourage the opening of new shops some residents have expressed doubts and raised questions following the presentation One major concern revolves around the project's traffic calming measures in the town centre which depend on the planned nearby bypass becoming operational Nei Dikrech is set to be completed by 2030 at the latest but some are sceptical about whether this is a realistic timeline for the bypass to be finished Diekirch Mayor Charel Weiler emphasised that he "cannot say today when the bypass will be completed," but assured that the government remains committed to the project as it was outlined in meetings Weiler also mentioned that the municipality is pleased that a bypass for Diekirch is at least planned Part of Nei Dikrech involves the renewal of the underground infrastructure within the pedestrian zone a study with an engineering firm is underway and the construction will proceed in phases to minimise disruption for local businesses the redevelopment of Place de la Libération will not take place during the summer months there is also a plan to create a historical circuit that will better connect the various small squares in the town centre further enhancing accessibility and aesthetics While most of the snowfall across Luxembourg ended on Wednesday afternoon which means that most of the flood warnings are expected to remain in place throughout the day Authorities also warn that the rise in temperatures has caused most of the snow to melt further putting a strain on Luxembourg's rivers and Syre rivers are all placed under orange alerts The Alzette in particular might reach the red alert level over the course of the morning though water levels are forecast to recede again on Friday morning The areas around Mersch and Ettelbruck face the biggest flood risk As for the northern parts of the Grand Duchy the Sûre is also placed under orange alert most notably around Diekirch and Bollendorf the red alert level is expected to be reached in Diekirch by noon on Thursday According to the latest statement from the authorities the Moselle has now been placed under yellow alert too Diekirch’s national holiday festivities kick off with a military parade on Thursday 20 June at 10:00 Celebrate Luxembourg’s national day by seeing a military parade or checking out concerts and activities The national day festivities in Diekirch will start with a military parade on Place Guillaume on Thursday 20 June It will be followed by a local festival with concerts and activities on Place Guillaume on Saturday 22 June civil ceremony and speech by the city’s mayor on Sunday 23 June open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 were made public by the Luxembourg police on Wednesday as part of an appeal to locate their rightful owners include not only jewellery but also earphones The police are asking anyone who recognises items in the first eight photos (shown below) to contact the Diekirch/Vianden police station by phone at (+352) 244 80 1000 or via email at police.diekirchvianden@police.etat.lu several items of jewellery were found on Rue Principale in Kahler on 5 November 2024 and "could potentially be linked to a theft," the police write The owner(s), as well as anyone else who can provide useful information, are asked to contact the Capellen police station by phone at (+352) 244 80 1000 or via email at police.capellensteinfort@police.etat.lu InnovationLuxembourg support app for neurodivergent children wins global awardBeating out 900 other hopefuls, Dalza named Global Champion for Learning & Education at World Summit Awards EducationViolent assault a ‘one-off incident’ says school after bullying reportsVideos circulated online show pupil at Lycée Bel-Val being slapped and dragged along the floor by classmates HobbyMaster the art of photography at these classesSpring is the perfect time to get out your camera. would not 'surrender its independence or its constitutional rights' a retirement home was to be built at the Rue de l'Hôpital in Diekirch the plan had to be modified after a ruling from the Administrative Court declaring that the project did not correspond to the criteria of a public buildings and facilities zone (Zone de bâtiments et équipements publics) the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP)-led authorities purchased a building plot for nearly 10 million euros The current plans are to keep the building plot at the Rue de l'Hôpital for a potential extension of the primary school nearby The Diekirch conservatory will therefore be moved from its current location at the Wirtgen Castle in Place Auguste Wirtgen to the Rue Sauerwiss these ideas have struck a chord with the political opposition in the municipal council as the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party disposed of a majority they had already expressed doubt about the suitability of the building plot at Rue de l'Hôpital for an annex building belonging to the primary school The current municipal government between the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) and the Democratic Party (DP) requested that a study be made in order to clarify the matter which gave a positive answer to the idea of an annex building for the primary school The study proposed two alternatives: either a building consisting of 18 classrooms for 430 school students or a building that can house 14 classrooms for a total of 336 school students Due to difficulties of finding spots for school students in Diekirch and its surroundings municipal authorities have decided to reserve the site at Rue de l'Hôpital for the extension of the primary school Otherwise children were to be distributed across different primary schools in Diekirch The development of the population in Diekirch will be taken into consideration in order to determine the exact moment of the construction of the annex building The LSAP and its previous mayor of Diekirch Claude Thill expressed criticism against the idea and stressed their commitment to their plans for a conservatory to foster music and culture for children there are dissenting opinions within the opposition as well Councillor Frank Thillen of The Greens (déi gréng) reacted positively to the idea of moving the conservatory to the Rue Sauerwiss praising the street's proximity to the local high school and to school students in general mayor Charel Weiler rebukes the criticism that public funds invested for the blueprints of the conservatory would go down the drain if it is determined that the conservatory will not be built at the Rue de l'Hôpital as the building plot and the blueprints were overpriced He further stated that it is not clear whether a conservatory could have even been built on the basis of such blueprints Municipal authorities have requested a study to determine the suitability of the blueprints with regard to "building standards" for conservatories It is still unclear when construction will begin at Rue Sauerwiss will be available as soon as the Nordstad Lycée can move to the new premises next to the Ecole d'hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Luxembourg in Diekirch which also formed part of the original idea of building a retirement home at Rue de l'Hôpital Municipal authorities have decided to purchase the building from the property developer which required taking a loan of 28 million euros The decision was made given that the municipality was paying a monthly rent of 190,000 euros the municipal government decided to pay for the purchase all at once emphasising that this was the most economical solution This work, Army National Guard Soldiers receive medal from Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, by Steven Paralympic Games so RTL spoke with the athlete about her ambitions and passion for the sport Kohl regularly trains at the athletics stadium in Diekirch where we met her during one of her sessions It's now about building strength in the sessions a birth defect where the spine and spinal cord do not form properly She has been in a wheelchair since childhood Her passion for sports came relatively late; initially "I did all three activities for a few years simultaneously which unfortunately put an end to group sports and I started focusing more on wheelchair racing because I could still practice it The woman from Diekirch then wanted to excel in one discipline and specialised in the short distances (100m The athlete will follow the Olympic Games in Paris although her current focus is on preparation she will attend a training camp in Switzerland to fine-tune her form Balancing work and sports is not always easy who works at the water syndicate Sidero and is also a member of the municipal council in Diekirch I immediately said that I would only work 75 percent so that I could dedicate the remaining time to sports This means that I have those two hours a day when I'm not working to train." the athlete regrets that the Paralympics receive less attention from the public and the media Luxembourg still lags far behind when it comes to sports for people with disabilities she notes: "Paralympic sports have so much to offer They need to gain more visibility in society she says that they should simply try things out and stay curious She herself had not expected to end up in an individual sport: "You only develop a feeling once you really try it And you don't have to do it at a competitive level The goal for Paris is to perform better than in her recent competitions a new personal best time would be achieved: "That is definitely already a minor goal I know that most of the athletes participating qualified directly and not through a wild card The Paralympic Games take place from 28 August to 8 September Whether it will be the highlight of her career and also the conclusion she cannot say for the moment: "How things will continue afterward the pedestrian was struck at the crossroads of Route d'Ettelbruck and Rue de l'Industrie near a car repair shop The incident took place when the pedestrian attempted to cross the street The driver of the vehicle allegedly drove in direction of Angeldorf without first checking on the wellbeing of the person who had been hit The car being driven was a black or grey limousine are now urged to contact the police marching in the annual Marche Internationale de Diekirch they can no longer wear their medals from this event Tracy McKithern/Army)Army human resources officials removed two foreign foot march awards from the service’s authorized-for-wear list Wednesday morning and many of the Army’s most-popular foreign awards could be in jeopardy Service officials updated the Army’s awards regulation to ban soldiers from wearing the Holland Four Day Event Cross or Luxembourg’s International March of Diekirch Medal according to a post from a restricted-access discussion forum A source shared photos of the discussion thread with Army Times Human Resources Command officials did not respond to questions from Army Times before this story’s publication deadline which commemorates a 14th century Luxembourgish king is awarded to those who complete at least a 12.4-mile foot march with different degrees of the award and devices available to those who push farther Traditionally, the march occurs in-person, through the rolling terrain of the Ardennes Forest in northern Luxembourg. But this year, the country’s defense ministry opted to organize a remote event that’s been ongoing since April Participants were asked to pay a $20 fee to cover the shipping and handling for the medal and certificate That spawned a popular post Sunday on a Reddit community for U.S explaining how they could organize their own March of Diekirch events Similar virtual events have been occurring for the Norwegian Foot March badge, with more than 11,000 troops attempting the grueling event between November 2020 and July 2021, an officer who helped organize events with Norway’s embassy wrote in a Reddit post Now the Norwegians have opted to permanently permit remote marches (without a Norwegian military official present) that meet their standards In a feature story written by a Norwegian tabloid curious about rising American interest in a small badge soldiers reported enjoying the challenge and the team-building aspects of the event But as interest began to surge in organizing March of Diekirch events officials at Human Resources Command quickly intervened “It has come to our attention that the International March of Diekirch hosted by Luxembourg [is] being held virtually which goes directly against Army Policy,” argued HRC official Dennis Christensen in a post to MilSuite’s popular S1Net channel “Further research showed that this event as well as the Holland Four Day Event Cross are charging fees for their events...These awards CANNOT be worn.” Christensen explained that HRC interprets the Diekirch march’s virtual format to violate a May 2021 directive that revised the service awards regulation to say “only those [foreign] badges that are awarded in recognition of military activities conducted by the military department of the host country are authorized for acceptance and permanent wear.” The HRC civilian added, “paying a fee for an event is interpreted by our office to be the service member requesting or otherwise encouraging the offer of an award,” which would violate a Defense Department instruction Army Times is not publishing the names of S1Net commenters who criticized the policy in a limited-access forum One commenter on S1Net asked HRC to “further explain the rational behind your interpretation of an admin fee as an encouragement for offering the award,” pointing out that the Army Ten Miler charges an $89 registration fee Another pointed out that recent Norwegian Foot March events were conducted remotely and that not all events for the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge — a popular foreign badge — require a German military official One soldier whose battalion “already...has over 50 registrants for the [March of Diekirch] event we will be conducting in September” responded “The event is still entirely run with oversight by the Government of Luxembourg and the fee covers event-connected expenses...and we will have representation for the Luxembourgish Embassy attending,” he said this is a slap in the face of...our Allies in Luxembourg.” morale boosting opportunity,” he continued “We’re not talking about Soldiers going for a walk in the park and earning a medal This is a difficult task in direct coordination with a foreign government and NATO Ally.” He also highlighted that soldiers had previously received the award and have been authorized to wear it “Why would you take something earned away from Soldiers especially during the current state of recruiting and retention?” he asked challenged HRC officials on their interpretation of the regulations He argued that the agency was being needlessly more restrictive than DoD policy requires and questioned whether cracking down on an event that would improve unit cohesion was in line with the priorities of the service’s senior leaders It’s not clear how HRC’s interpretation of the fee policy will impact long-standing events for the Norwegian Foot March or foreign parachutist wings that have required charitable donations of food or toys The Luxembourg National Museum of Military History (Musee National d’Histoire Militaire) in Diekirch focuses particularly on the World War Two conflict known as the Battle of the Bulge. So this article, if all goes to plan, will introduce you to some of the excellent breweries found around the Grand Duchy, as well as a few places where you can get your hands on them. You may also want to check out our video introduction to Artisan'Ale an excellent beer shop in the City where you can get your hands on many of the beers below so rather than blabbering on I'll get straight to the point and list off a few brewers of beautifully balanced beverages One of the largest breweries in the land, Brasserie de Luxembourg offers a considerable range of beers – including Diekirch Premium, Diekirch Grand Cru, Diekirch 0.0%, and Mousel. The brewery itself is, much to the surprise of no one, located in Diekirch. More information on their website Located in the Clausen area of Luxembourg City, the their beers include Clausel Classic and Clausel Monk, and are of course best enjoyed right in their own pub. You can find out more about them and reserve a table on their website This small brewery is located in Heiderscheid and offers a traditional Luxembourgish lager named after the town where it is brewed. They also do custom brewing, perfect for events, and you can buy their standard offering in several shops (their website  has a list of retailers) Another reader recommendation! The brewery here seems to be based in Bech, just outside of Echternach itself. You can visit their website or find them on Facebook You will find their beer at the brewery itself (see their Facebook page) I contacted them and asked what they brew: "We are actually doing only one kind of beer This one is called "Hellen" which is derived from the Bavarian or Austrian type of Beer "Helles" which is smoother in hops and a bit more on the malty side than the typical northern European beers The reason why we are producing this beer is quite simple I did my studies in Salzburg and I fell in love with their beer down there immediately The reason why we are actually doing only one kind of a beer is that we are lacking in space at the brewery But we are planning to produce two other types of beer mid next year Launched in 2016, Fox beer apparently represents one man’s struggle to find a beer that would allow him to keep his weight in check. Thus Fox beer was born, and boasts calorie count 33% lower than their average competitor. Fox can be found in most supermarkets, and further information, as always, on their website Makers of the delicious (and beautifully designed) Fresh Start pale ale and The Crush IPA, Many Lands has been well received in the beer aficionado community. You can find their beers at Artisan’Ale, Crossfire, the Tube, Luxhouse, and Discount Wolter. They don’t yet have a website, but can be found on Facebook They also do custom brews and labels – perfect for events or as a present for the beer lover(s) in your life Yes. It can be slightly more difficult than you might expect to get your hands on beers from smaller breweries in Luxembourg, so don't expect to find them in every shop, bar, pub, or restaurant. Artisan'Ale (30 rue de Clausen Luxembourg City) is a good place to start if you want to buy bottles for drinking at home In contacting the breweries for this article several of them mentioned a few specific venues that often stock their beers: Crossfire (15 rue Dicks, L-1417, Luxembourg City)The Tube (8 rue Sigefroi Several readers have also been in touch with further recommendations: This is certainly not an exhaustive list, but names that came up a few times. Study on the commercial situation in Nordstad the first construction works will be started this summer in the context of remodelling the central axis between Erpeldange and Diekirch a study was carried out to assess the commercial situation in the northern part of the city The aim is to ensure that people can find everything they need within as compact a radius as possible the hospitality sector is better represented in some municipalities while clothing shops are perhaps better represented in others The idea is to ensure that the areas are complementary to each other and not to create a third pole between Diekirch and Ettelbruck The first incident was reported near a café on Grand-Rue in Ettelbruck Although he was initially cooperative when the police asked him to stop A physical quarrel later broke out in a café on Place de la Libération in Diekirch the people involved were quickly identified as one of the men was said to have assaulted the other The victim was treated on the spot and the perpetrator was taken into custody after a medical consultation due to his heavy intoxication The report also reads that the man was extremely uncooperative defended her title at the ING Euro Cross Country meeting in the Luxembourg town of Diekirch on Sunday won the 2014 Diekirch Euro Cross comfortably clocking a time of 20:28 over the 5.5km course ahead of 2012 winner Almensch Belete finished in second place in 20:48 with Sabrina Mockenhaupt from Germany completing the podium in 21:03 Kenyan-born Qatari Alex Kibet improved on his runner-up finish at Diekirch in 2013 to take the men’s 10.275km race in 33:03 and 28 seconds ahead of the Belgian-based Ethiopian Dame Tasame Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha who is the reigning IAAF World Youth champion over 3,000m made a solid debut in third in 34:18 while Yonas Kinde an Eritrean who has been based in Luxembourg since 2012 The three-time Diekirch Euro Cross winner (2005 was a non-finisher in his first race of the year ShareSeven Luxembourgers took part in the allied landing in Normandy in the early hours of 6 June 1944. participated in numerous marches in her quest for healing carrying her daughter's stuffed animal as a keepsake Full report by RTL Télé (in Luxembourgish) Andréck vun der Marche de l'armée - Dag 1 Andréck vun der Marche de l'armée - Dag 2 Laurent Walthoff has been in charge of the Luxembourg brewery Diekirch-Mousel since last February After celebrating its 150th anniversary last year the brand of brewing giant AB InBev is preparing its future sustainability and diversification of its range Laurent Walthoff is now at home in Diekirch He started his career at AB InBev as a sales representative in the hotel and catering industry in 2017 and left Belgium to join operations in the grand duchy the draught beer market is much larger than in Belgium There is a great demand for ‘perfect drafts’ and even 10-litre kegs that individuals install at home,” he explains While the brewery group dominates the market in Belgium in third place behind Brasserie Nationale (26%) and imported beers which have a strong position with 55% of the market it should be noted that some AB InBev brands appear in this category The manager lists his priorities as the local anchoring of the Diekirch brand The brewery’s ambition is to produce “zero carbon” by 2030 it has its eye on the “craft beers” segment: “We are going to try to make experimental brews in order to market them on the Luxembourg market in the future we could compare this to a sort of ephemeral bar,” says Walthoff “Our ambition is clear: to become the most popular beer in Luxembourg,” he adds cocktail recipes that use Diekirch Radler as a base and The latter is made from the alcohol extracted from the 0.0% beers “ such as Radler are an important segment in which we are constantly investing,” explains Walthoff The Luxembourg range currently includes Radler Lemon another brand in the portfolio of the beer leader with a 29.3% market share worldwide “We’re seeing strong growth in the Corona brand; it’s becoming more and more popular but it’s difficult to link that to current events,” he says carefully What is certain is that the coronavirus pandemic has boosted sales in supermarkets but has taken a toll on the hotel and restaurant industry café owners have won a legal battle with their landlord--the Brasserie de Luxembourg--over the payment of rent during lockdown “What is important is to say that we will respect the court’s verdict But we would like to make it clear that the Brasserie de Luxembourg does not own any buildings under full management We pay the rent paid by the tenant to the owner of the premises we are in any case obliged to pay the owner even in the difficult context of the pandemic,” Walthoff explains The soaring costs of energy and raw materials have not spared the brewery in Diekirch: it is currently in the process of renegotiating prices with catering professionals The Luxembourg brewery Diekirch-Mousel has a production capacity of 150,000hl per year It is the second largest producer with 38% of the 225,180 hl produced last year in Luxembourg according to data provided by the Brasserie Nationale but we share the same goal: to grow the brewing culture in Luxembourg I have a very good relationship with Mathias Lentz [director of the Brasserie Nationale],” says Walthoff The new brewery will open in March 2019 and is operational four days a week The brew is left to ferment for a fortnight in a tank The beer is then put into barrels at a rate of 160 units per day AB InBev finally invested €25m in the construction of a new production site in Diekirch A special feature is that the brewery handles the filling of the barrels which is carried out at the Belgian sites of Jupille and Leuven after the reception of trucks with a capacity of 250 hl of Luxembourg brew The Brasserie de Luxembourg justifies this step by its desire to limit noise pollution since its former production site is to be transformed into The company celebrated its 150th anniversary last year It employs around fifty people in Diekirch This story was first published in French on It has been translated and edited for Delano one you absolutely must see because it’s just so blue and wonderful and in the summer tourists line up at 7 a.m It turns out that it’s just a normal construction rubbish bin a few hundred meters from the French border and your kids will have a wonderful time there and their classmates will be jealous and your son will be chosen as “supreme boss” of his group of friends but when we finally found the playground after two hours of searching but few know that among its winding streets is a snack shop that is so international in scope that it sells pizza We drove all the way up to Vianden and found this place after getting bad directions five or six times Tucked in an office park in Bertrange is a building that might seem ordinary at first but if you go there before sunrise and stare at its red bricks all day long until sunset you will begin to see the genius of its design you will have a transcendental experience – at least according one drunk banker in a pub and the people working in the office building asked us to leave because we were creeping them out but we refused because art is for the public to enjoy there is nothing special about those bricks Located somewhere in Luxembourg City’s Bambesch is a castle that is so cool and huge you can go inside and pretend you are a king and if you are lucky and your mother has brought a snack you can sit inside on a throne made of leaves and eat your snack and it is great fun that’s what our friend’s sister's four-year-old claimed We sat on a bed of leaves in the castle and ate our snack Read more at wurst.lu Beer holds a significant place in Diekirch's identity alongside icons like the donkey and the Sûre river the Diekirch town music has organised the annual beer festival complete with the iconic giant beer mug as part of its advertising a drinks stand housing the beer mug was engulfed in flames With this year's festival approaching on 18 and 19 May organisers initially feared they might have to forego the beer mug's presence in their advertising That is until unexpected help arrived from another Diekirch club D'Jungen aus dem Schluechthaus ("The Boys from the Abattoir") a carnival club founded in 1973 by former workers of the Diekirch abattoir found themselves with spare time after exceptionally opting out of this year's Cavalcade Around a dozen volunteers from the club took on the task of constructing a new beer mug Although our colleagues from RTL.lu were unable to catch a glimpse of the new creation during their meeting with town music and carnival association representatives due to it being already gift-wrapped it's known that the new beer mug stands as tall as a full-grown inhabitant of Diekirch This design choice not only adds to its stature but also enhances security making it less susceptible to theft—an issue that has plagued previous editions Paul Maas from the Diekirch town music recalled an incident where a Dutch tourist attempted to abscond with the mug through the pedestrian zone only to be promptly intercepted by a vigilant member of the town music The beer mug's journey has been peppered with anecdotes reflecting its significance to Diekirch's cultural fabric Maas recounts how a couple of teenagers once hijacked the beer mug town music officials made a heartfelt appeal on RTL radio offering clemency if the mug were returned—a plea that proved successful The carnival club also shares a storied connection with the beer mug the beer festival was held at "op der Kluuster." After a hiatus during which the mug was temporarily stored in a hall its reappearance in 2000 coincided with the merger of Diekirch and Mousel breweries the mug graced the club's float during the Cavalcade the beer festival found new life in the park behind the town hall Although it underwent renovation by the women of the Diekirch Town Music in 2018 tragedy struck in 2023 when flames consumed the beloved symbol The unveiling of the new beer mug is slated for Saturday at 12pm on Place de la Libération in Diekirch Festivities will include lively marches by the town band and some free drinks at a bar on the square Paul Maas quips about a keg reserved for the carnival club "And they'd better empty it," to which Mich Fayot responds with a chuckle
