Their motive for establishing a museum was to preserve the heritage of the peat bog railway
All profits from go to funds for repairing tracks
“This is a narrow-gauge locomotive built using parts salvaged from trucks
It has an engine from a MAZ car as well as its gearbox
so we are switching gears like one does in a car
We are driving and pulling five wagons,” explained Dāvis Bušs
the head of the “Train Friends' Club” association
visitors discover for themselves the processes of peat extraction and recycling as well as how both peat and peat workers were transported
The enthusiasts have managed to rebuild from scratch the wagon which was used for carrying passengers
already pre-owned wagons were used on peat railroads
In the 40's and 50's workers were transported on a platform without chairs or anything else,” explained Bušs
several bogs were workers were being transported in wagons
The former terminus of the Baloži peat field railroad is now the location of apartment houses in Ziepniekkalns
One of the most important objects in the museum happens to be the wagon
which is perhaps the only of its kind in the world to remain in its original state
with an outside kitchen for preparing meals for those working in the bog,” said Bušs
the Baloži railway spanned 28 kilometers
It was not a single line but many branching through the bog
It took some workers to travel for half an hour by train to their work station
to minimize time spent going about on the train
and it is currently possible to take a ride only along a one kilometer and 100 meter long railway line
Volunteers are planning to restore the line up to two and a half kilometers in length
The museum only works on the last Saturday of each month in the summer season

NJ — New Jersey community organizer and activist Robert "Balozi" Alexander Harvey – a staunch supporter of African-American relations in the Newark area - has passed away
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka issued the following statement about Harvey’s passing on Friday:
the local and global community of pan-African nationalists and the many nations in the African Diaspora in mourning the passing of Balozi Robert Alexander Harvey
an extraordinary community organizer and activist in New Jersey and beyond
Balozi's life was a love story with Africa and with Newark and its people
"Few have done more to build bridges between African nations and the Black communities of America
Balozi Harvey facilitated hundreds of millions of dollars in trade between Africa and the United States
developing trade and investment relationships between American small
and women-owned firms and developing nations
he opened the eyes of youth in Essex County to African history
preaching that knowledge and understanding of our African heritage are necessary to instill pride and self-confidence in our young people
we remember Balozi Harvey as Mayor Ken Gibson's partner in opening up trade between Newark companies and African and Caribbean nations
We remember him for his work as a trusted advisor to local governments in promoting cultural diversity
He built an amazing collection of African art not to enrich himself or his family but to help African-Americans to appreciate the richness and depth of our heritage
Balozi was a partner in my work and that of my family to use the arts as a powerful instrument for social justice and racial equality
He was a renaissance man who crammed three lifetimes into one
Balozi Harvey will be sorely missed but he made sure that thousands here and in Africa have the determination
skills and knowledge to carry on his life's work
Our prayers go out to his family at this time."

a subsidiary of East African Breweries Limited (EABL),has announced that its beer brand
Balozi Beer was launched in Kenya in 2012 and has only been available in the bottle format since then
It is famously known as the beer ya mwananchi due to its price and like WhiteCap Lager
The canned Balozi Lager will come in a 500ML can and features a look adapted from its original bottle
the beer is still the same and will be available at a recommended retail price (RRP) at Ksh
170 across in retail channels and on e-Commerce platforms
The bottled version goes for a recommended retail price of Ksh
this innovation will also serve as a welcome refresh going into the festive season that will provide some excitement for long-time consumers of Balozi Lager as well as provide a unique opportunity for a new generation of beer drinkers
Marketing Manager of Emerging Beers at KBL
“This launch is a clear indication that we indeed do listen to our consumers
and that we put great consideration into what they need
but also offers consumers unprecedented convenience
especially these trying times where in-home consumption is on the rise
The can also offers the consumers choice across formats: they can choose between the bottle and the can.”
The move to can the beer is a great idea and will be welcomed by customers who would like to enjoy the beer in their homes or in outdoor environments such as picnics and events
The timing is great especially in these COVID-19 times when most people are enjoying their favourite beer brands at home
It also makes it easier to order for delivery and storage at home during these times as well
The new canned Balozi Beer joined other canned EABL beers that include WhiteCap Lager
