brutal and gluttonous: Donald Trump is the archetypal ogre
So how did he manage to stomp back for a second term
The animated film Shrek opens with the eponymous hero wiping his bottom on a book
Shrek then emerges from the toilet and we follow his swamp-savvy morning routine
He bathes his huge and oddly luminous body in mud
He kills fish for his supper with his flatulence
But Shrek’s life is about to be interrupted
is rounding up various misfits and banishing them to Shrek’s swamp
The film has Shrek put up “keep out” signs; he dreams of building a wall; and he frightens anyone who comes into his swamp with fierce-but-fake-but-fierce shows of aggression
Shrek soon feels himself overwhelmed by “squatters” (as he calls them) and is furious
Here he is greeted at the “Information Booth” by animatronic characters singing the Duloc Welcome Song: “Welcome to Duloc
such a perfect town / Here we have some rules
He doesn’t like welcome booths that are the opposite of welcoming
he doesn’t like fake characters singing annoying songs to him about how they are going to lay down the law
Ogres are one of the most ancient archetypes in human narrative and they have been with us since we first started telling stories
In tales such as Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves
ogres (or ghuls) are depicted as monstrous beings with a penchant for devouring humans
In The Epic of Gilgamesh there is a character called Humbaba – a giant guardian of the cedar forest
there are ogres at the centre of the two foundational epics in western literature: the Cyclops
As Seamus Heaney’s evocative translation has it: “Grendel was the name of this grim demon / haunting the marches
marauding round the heath / and the desolate fens.” Haunting the swamps in other words
And – yes – coming into town to get even in a bigly way
View image in fullscreenDreams of a world within walls
Photograph: Landmark Media/AlamyAnd “bigly” is an ogre’s word if ever there was one
something overwhelming; but also “bigly” is a dig at language itself and its pretensions to precision
You don’t have to be a writer to see the patterns
The ogres of folklore are always against written law
cannibalistic creatures that inhabit a single realm outside “normal” society – the island (Polyphemus) and the swamp (Grendel)
They consume without restraint and hoard wealth
They are brutish and yet full of a lethal cunning and instinct
They are driven by a need to dominate or destroy anything they perceive as a threat
They are untamed beings of cruelty and desire and appetite
They are everywhere present in our stories because
they are part of our struggle to understand ourselves
They represent the recurring preoccupations and apprehensions of the human psyche
They are avatars for all the dangers lurking outside the safety of human society’s agreed norms and rituals
but lurking inside … lurking inside the human mind
we repress these traits in order to get along
and yet they persist – as drives and urges
ogres are not just monsters in tales but archetypal representations of the elemental aspects of our being
if we step for a moment across one of the many footbridges between story and psychology
then we can see that ogres represent … the primal; also known as the id
all that hoarded gold on the 56th floor of Trump towersThe id is the inner life we all of us share
The circuit board on which all of our various operating systems run – be they our politics
we find the collection of feelings and instincts that lie at the very core of the human being
Here are the survival instincts: fear and anxiety
Here is the urge to act without reflection
Trump is the nearest any modern politician comes to pure id
And one way to better understand his inauguration – and the strange folkloric spell of his seduction during the election – is to look through this lens of human story
Because it is on this deeper level that Trump broadcasts; it is here that he makes his powerful appeal; and it is here that he connects
the description of an ogre above might – without too much modulation – be deftly repurposed as a set of character notes for the future actors who will no doubt play him
The way he looms and thuds through the world – fist-inverted
Trump doesn’t engage in a debate about “values” – no
All that hoarded gold way up the beanstalk on the 56th floor of Trump Towers
Domination and treasure are two of the ogre’s preoccupations
The teaser for the second term began thus: “They’re eating the dogs – the people that came in
They’re eating … they’re eating the pets of the people that live there …” Eating
View image in fullscreen‘I love salt’ … Trump serves food at a McDonald’s in Feasterville
Photograph: Brian Snyder/ReutersConsider Trump’s campaign visit to McDonald’s to work the frier in Feasterville
“we got about 10,000 people out there … That’s a big crowd – huh?” (Double Jesus – for those paying attention)
Everything.” Then he gets to his political point: “I’ve always wanted to work at McDonald’s
I’m running against somebody that said she did
but it turned out to be a totally phoney story
It was a big part of [Kamala Harris’s] résumé that she worked at McDonald’s – how tough a job it was
and she talked about the heat: ‘It was so tough.’” Then he adds with bone-grinding finality: “She’s never worked at McDonald’s.”
Think about what is actually going on here
Trump knows that you know and that’s why he’s still wearing his suit and tie
He never changes out of costume because he never changed into costume
the rest of the world is in disguise; the rest of the world is fake.) No
are messages to do with the primal pleasures of greed and eating … eating those everybody-loves-them-who-cares-if-they-are-bad-for-you fries
And people who complain or lie about it don’t get that – and therefore can’t be trusted on anything else
And then he starts handing it out for free to the drive-through line: “It is all on Trump,” he says
right?” But the subliminal communication is again more potent than the seemingly casual question
What threatens my generosity in giving you these fries – what threatens our feast here in Feasterville – is the law
And I tell you something: if the law dares to get in the way of a president feeding his people
then it’s just another fake law in a fake world
like all the other fake laws with which they try to punish and contain me
punish and contain you; the laws from which I will liberate you to eat more
and have all the mores you want; it’s going to be huge
Trump continually remarks: “You’re a good-looking guy”
One man says to him: “You made it possible for ordinary people like us to meet you.” And Trump says right back: “You’re not ordinary
Beautiful wife.” And then he hands the guy his order through the window of his car
He turns back again and says: “I’m having a lot of fun here everybody
that is the whole election – in that moment
All the fake news of human thought over there but right here with Trump … the truth of food and sex
is often threat and menace because most of the time it’s just ogre-anger in a different keyFor our stories to endure
they must be fun as well as scary; every story and therefore every ogre in the storyworld also has to … entertain
fun is what Trump spends a great deal of time telling us he is having
He uses the word from time to time but his body and his gestures and his general don’t-give-a-shit deportment is also often about conveying fun
Because everyone knows you don’t get the gold without the bending a few rules and – anyway – the law is a pathetic joke to the id
Says Trump to the female lawyer grilling him in one of his harassment hearings: “I say this with as much respect as I can
she [his accuser] is not my type … Not my type in any way
addressing the female lawyer herself: “You wouldn’t be a choice of mine either
to be honest with you … I hope you’re not insulted
I would not under any circumstances have any interest in you
There’s no respect and he doesn’t care if you’re insulted
Polyphemus says: “We Cyclops care not a whistle for your thundering Zeus or all the gods in bliss.” Ogre-fun
is often threat and menace because most of the time it’s just ogre-anger in a different key

Transaction is another signifier of the id-world. Consider Trump’s book, The Art of the Deal
Because the deal isn’t about “values” or “morality”
That’s the only thing you can really trust
you look not for nobility or fairness in your interlocutor but for weakness – greed
jealousy; you eschew the profound in favour of commodity and bargain
everything else is made up or posturing and – deep down – you know it and I know it and everybody knows it
human beings tend to back away from ‘ideals’ and edge towards the dependable ‘truths’ of the idTrump – as ogre
This is what so many of the political podcasts and back-peddling pundits missed
I get it.” There’s an id-entity in there that he’s talking to beneath all those other identities we adopt
And it may not be noble or pretty – not at all – but it’s real and it’s ravenous and it’s rapacious and it’s irresistible
this is one reason why identity politics so often loses to the id-summoning assertions of populism
When times are precipitous and the polity is bitterly contested
human beings tend to back away from “argument” and “ideals” and edge back towards the dependable “truths” of the id
And the story world – where Trump broadcasts loud and clear – is so very powerful here because it darkly enchants; and because it occludes the complex world of actual issues
You don’t need a ground game when you’ve got an id-game
You don’t need leaflets about policy when you’re the latest main character in an ancient human saga all about wealth and food and sex and anger and fear and power and vengeance
And it’s interesting to note how our great writers smuggle in sympathy for their ogres’ retaliations
how Homer describes Odysseus as polytropos meaning “wily” in his opening line
We sense straight away that Odysseus’s intelligence can also be provocative and irritating
Polyphemus only has a single eye but (like Shrek in his swamp) he was minding his own business before the Greeks turned up and started demanding hospitality
taunting the cyclops from his ship: “Cyclops
if ever mortal man enquire / how you were put to shame and blinded
View image in fullscreenA detail from Arnold Böcklin’s Odysseus and Polyphemus (1896)
Photograph: AlamyBut we sometimes forget that Polyphemus has the last laugh because he asks his father
god of the sea blue mane who rocks the earth
… grant that Odysseus … never see his home
and find a world of pain … ” The curse is pivotal in the story
Homer – in this moment – is on Polyphemus’s side because of Odysseus’s hubris
it takes Odysseus 10 years (or two election cycles) to get back to Ithaca
there’s a world of fresh trauma waiting for him when he gets there
is not welcome at the White House correspondents’ dinner either
He is described as an outcast doomed to brooding
But there’s also a counter-tone of pity in the lines: “It harrowed him / to hear the din of the loud banquet / every day in the hall
the harp being struck / and the clear song of a skilled poet / telling with mastery of man’s beginnings …” What enrages Grendel is that he has been excluded from the kinship
from the rituals of the banquet and the fellowship of music
the primal and the rational are in antiphonal relation; one summons the other
The swamp and the city are always part of the same human story
Which brings us to the proper counter to the ogre’s appeal
Because of course the id is not the only truth of human relations
Human beings cannot – and do not wish to – live in the primal world alone
Death is redeemed not through deals but by love
the id is no more than a third of the human psyche
There is also the ego (wherein we are rational
controlled) and the superego (the internalised operation of moral standards and ideals)
our stories are also thronged with archetypes of love and reason
He patrols the borders of language and reaction
He holds up signs to tell the people what to do: “applause”
you might just about put up with this if you are economically secure and Duloc more or less works for you
But the feeling of being reprimanded is the opposite of fun
and this certainly is no way to bring people outside with you
the would-be leader must surely be as perceptive and attentive toward the inner lives of their fellow human beings as are the enduring writers
They must seek again to make a real and more universal connection
And they must surely acknowledge appetite and desire and anger and fear – ideally with conviviality – and then offer something much richer: the rest of the human experience
inspiration second – is what marks out the greatest politicians
Leaving aside secondary considerations such as the right-left or the right-wrong
think what Churchill’s demeanour transmits at its most simple: I get it about the whisky and cigars and the epic dinners – I do
I do – but still we must fight for “the worst form of government
except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time”
Or consider John F Kennedy’s persona and body language which (before he says a word) declare in the most charming manner possible: I get it about the glamour and the sex – none more so
none more so – but still we must aspire to go to the moon and “set sail on this new sea because there is new knowledge to be gained
and they must be won and used for the progress of all people”
you have to be a remarkable human being to embody and encompass all of this
But then the leader of a democracy should be an exceptional human being – not in the sense of being merely virtuous
but in the deeper and more resonant sense of being emotionally and psychologically capacious

We talk to founder Zain Fahadh about the challenges of funding an indie studio
and the inspirations behind Ogre Head's games
Following the success of its debut title Asura
Ogre Head Studio is busy developing its next roguelike: a deckbuilder called Yodha
GamesIndustry.biz recently caught up with the developer's founder Zain Fahadh
discussing how the studio came to be and the importance of making games for everyone rooted in Indian culture and folklore
Fahadh entered the industry as a 3D artist
working at an outsourcing studio making characters for AAA titles
After five years of looking for an opportunity to work on PC and console games
"We founded Ogre Head Studio with the idea to make PC and console titles [taking] inspiration from the local folklore and culture," he says
Fahadh says Ogre Head has not received any external funding or support from investors
he personally invested $2,000 of his savings into the studio
"We burned that out in six months," he explains
we went to Dubai and showcased the prototype for Asura
and that's where we got a lot of traction for the game."
Asura is an action roguelike featuring a procedurally generated skill tree
"The current Indian culture is very vibrant – there are so many stories that can come out"
people were asking us if we could help them with their games," he says
"We used Asura as a tool to expand our other businesses."
Ogre Head provides outsourcing and consultation to companies including Warner Brothers and Paramount
The studio builds "entire games" for firms alongside partners who manage localisation and marketing
enabled us to fund the studio by consulting with other game developers and companies," Fahadh continues
Fadhah speaks of how industry people reacted to the game
asking why the studio wasn't making casual mobile titles "because that's where the money was [at the time]."
This is something we're passionate about," he says
and providing outsourcing and consultation to bigger companies
Ogre Head has a lot of work on its hands for its six-person team
So how does the studio balance these three verticals
there's a lot of R&D that we're doing on the technical side of things
There are times where we have these spaces we can easily accommodate for another game
and I have 14 years of experience in this industry
"We're not making the next GTA 6 or games of that caliber
and we do white labels so we can't declare what we're working on
Asura and Yodha are two very distinct games heavily inspired by Indian folklore – something that's not tapped into as much in games compared to European and Western mythology
Fahadh is optimistic this will change over the next decade
"I think it's going to happen when the emerging generation go to developers like Ubisoft and become studio directors," he says
"Unless there is a lead who has some personal affinity towards the country or the culture they're from
"The next generation will bring that in the big titles
as the culture [in India] is people practicing to the Gods
It's not like [Western mythology] – no one is angry about Kratos killing Zeus
A lot of people find this [connection to the Gods] very personal."
Fahadh continues: "People haven't even tapped into medieval India
which is a completely different story to be built upon
And the current Indian culture is very vibrant – there are so many stories that can come out
That's what I think when I'm saying that I'm inspired by folklore and culture."
"Gaming is a tool for us to spread our message of Indian fantasy"
Fahadh uses the cultural differences of playing Dungeons & Dragons as an Indian to illustrate how Ogre Head approaches storytelling during development
I would be a sage or a Sadhu in a forest somewhere
you would be meeting in an Ashram – those are the kind of tools we use," he notes
Fahadh says Ogre Head aren't targeting anyone in particular with their games – he wants them to be accessible to audiences outside of India
"What we are saying is that we are making games for everyone
Genre also matters and our game is a little niche – it's a roguelike deckbuilder
"Our games are very genre-specific rather than region-specific – that's what we've always focused on
Fahadh is looking to build "really strong IPs" that the studio can leverage in the future
"I'm trying to build worlds rather than just games
"My ideal Ogre Head would be a shop that [many] creative ideas come out of
and animation – that's what I'm trying to steer the studio towards
Gaming is a tool for us to spread our message of Indian fantasy

Beyond the Ogre Cultural Center is a large rundown area
flanked by residential homes and a gambling hall
next summer there will be a rather unusual children's playground
referred to as an active recreation area in municipal documents
"In the center of the square is a stylized wooden castle with various climbing and balancing elements
A wooden wall with towers is planned around
It is planned that it will contain information about Latvian castles
especially with an emphasis on Ogre municipality," Aija Romanovska
head of the development and planning division of Ogre municipality
The visual solution was created by the "Latvian Soldier" (Latvijas Karavīrs) association
whose offer was considered the best price in the survey
and which has already carried out the reconstruction of Tērvete Castle hill
While the city already has two public playgrounds
demographic trends have pointed to another need
and the most accessible for all would be central Ogre
the municipality spokeswoman explained
86% of the population supported the idea and made various proposals
Ogre City Council has made this project a priority and is preparing procurement for builders
“Our construction engineers and society have made estimates
according to Ministry of Finance guidelines the risk starts if there is 20%,” the local government spokeswoman said
The cost of the playground was not mentioned in the public consultation
according to Ogre resident and independent journalist Māris Rožāns
who is not an opponent of the playground but the way it is set up
"It's a bit worrying that this is happening now that borrowing at the Treasury has become more expensive and that a municipality as big as Ogre needs to borrow money to build a playground
but we always have it like in the Soviet Union
only offer one option," Rožāns said
He noticed another nuance in the presentation of the object
In its territory is a chess area with figures sampled by a photograph by Mayor Egils Helmanis
'If MPs were shown what those chess figures would be
then the population poll had the photos removed
they know art and they know they are exactly the same figures that City Council chairman Helmanis photographed last December while secretly visiting the European Union sanctions-listed Pyotr Aven on the Klauģi estate,” Rožāns said
Helmanis has been the source of several recent controversies. As previously reported by LSM, he was responsible for inviting sanctioned Russian oligarch (and Latvian citizen) Pyotr Aven to display his collection of porcelain at the city's museum
not least from the museum's employees who claim they have been coerced into unethical and potentially illegal activity by the dictats of the mayor
Helmanis appears to have become even more strident in his relationship with the museum
with several more clashes and online arguments ending up with the bizarre 'sealing' of the office of the director of the Ogre Museum by members of the council
even though such a "sealing" has no legal force
and resembles the sort of legal circus more usually associated with the repressive regime of Russia
Other controversies involving Helmanis have included and his involvement as an instructor with a vigilante group, and tangles with anti-graft police
Head of the Development and planning division:
“We received more than one proposal from the Latvian Soldier Society
There were both wooden sculpture proposals
the works of Romāns Suta.” The municipality had not sought information about the copyrights of this piece of art

2025 at 11:10 pm PDTOgreSounds like: Not (or completely) fucking around
You could call the three-piece’s sound noise rock
maybe even hardcore—two basses jabbing through a cacophony of pedals and amps
with drums erupting in a kind of 360-degree projectile fury
But Ogre isn’t really crafting genre-based songs; they’re more interested in pure sonics
in building a world—one with a somewhat chaotic sound
like we’re putting on that we’re a rock band,” Grace Crane
There’s a Lynchian quality to Ogre’s antics
but swap the ominous crooner soundtrack for sounds that feel like being stuck in a parking garage elevator with scratched-metal walls
a little grotesque (we’re still determining what kind of jam covered Jennings as he was birthed from bandmate Nils Niswonger in Ogre’s music video for “Condition Indicator”)
a threatening sinister feel to the burbling
distorted sounds that have a sinking pull to them—but again
but it’s often more about the sonic shapes
“I usually will write them close to when we record something
and then I will promptly never zero in on learning them for shows,” Jennings says
Nobody knew what they were trying to build and get at when they began Ogre
Niswonger moved to Portland in 2021 from Santa Cruz
but Niswonger had dreamed of playing in a band and was itching to start one
He put flyers up around town and got a response from Jennings
who had moved to Portland the year before from Florida by way of Northern California
Neither had much of any training or background as a musician—Niswonger had dabbled in guitar but was picking up drums for the first time; Jennings was just learning bass
“We were both not great musicians at the time;
we definitely grew together,” Niswonger says
The two started meeting up and practicing regularly
learning their instruments and what Ogre would be
“[We] needed something that would set us apart
but to also come [to] it without any of the pretentious band swagger,” Jennings says
and from there adding stage banter—silly but violently silly
And they did make music—an EP and two albums by 2023
they wanted to be able to play the full parts live
Niswonger’s roommate with whom he attended high school
Crane was already familiar with the songs since the practices happened in the basement under her bedroom
“People here are very generous with resources
everybody just wants to keep the community itself alive
‘More people need to see this.’” Crane says
“I don’t think I’d want to be making music anywhere else in the world right now.”
[Portland is] just large enough to feel a sense of anonymity
but just small enough to feel insulated,” Jennings says
getting things together for some upcoming regional runs of shows
putting pieces in place to record a new album
we’re more performance art based,” Niswonger says
“I don’t know if we’ll ever put out music that’s on repeat
We’d love to some day release a record that captures the live thing a little more

Protesters gathered outside the building of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (VARAM)
as Minister Māris Sprindžuks (United List) has the power to remove municipal heads from their position
Helmanis has been the source of several recent controversies. As previously reported by LSM, he was responsible for inviting sanctioned Russian oligarch (and Latvian citizen) Pyotrs Avens to display his collection of porcelain at the city's museum
The Delna association, Latvia's branch of Transparency International, is calling on VARAM to respond to the increasingly problematic situation by removing the mayor from office and has sent a letter to government to that effect
alleging that Helmanis and his regular public communications constitute an attempt to intimidate the employees of the municipal council and institutions of the Ogre region
The director of Delna, Inese Tauriņa
said her organization has extensive information about possible illegal actions in the work of the municipality of Ogre region and its chairman
we've learned about various violations of regulatory acts and ethical norms
as well as non-observance of the principle of good governance in the Ogre County Council
We are not ready to put up with this and therefore ask the responsible authorities to act
therefore we cannot accept the answer that this is an internal matter of the municipal council," noted Tauriņa
board member of the Latvian Museum Association
said in an interview with Latvian Radio that her organization looks at what is happening from a professional point of view and emphasized that the employees should be treated in a legal manner
After World War II in the occupied countries of the Soviet Union
monuments were set up in honor of Soviet army soldiers as liberators of German fascism and glorifying the crucial role of the Soviet Union and its military forces in the war
Such monuments were installed at several sites in the current Ogre municipality area
Some of the monuments were dismantled after the restoration of Latvia's independence
several monuments or memorial plates are still located in areas inhabited by the Ogre municipality
The City Council has now decided to remove five other memorials linked to the Soviet occupation regime
which strongly condemns Russia's invasion of Ukraine, considers it unacceptable that memorial sites reflecting the activities of the Russian army directed against the people of Latvia and the sovereignty of the country are stored and protected on the territory of Latvia
Exceptions are places where soldiers are buried
respecting and honoring each person's rights to honor burial and peaceful resting

who is coordinating the ECC campaign for Ogre Municipality
“And European cultural buffs will get to enjoy a high-value cultural programme in a neat and tidy town.”
Even before throwing its hat into the ring
Ogre has been busily boosting its cultural infrastructure
The town’s new central library is a successful melding of contemporary design and ecological sustainability
while the restoration of the old sanatorium with superb murals by prewar artist Ansis Cīrulis is a major step for heritage preservation
that will mean a capital of cultural humming with operettas
as well as choral and folk dancing events courtesy of the county’s amateur troupes
There will also be a cultural festival with the accent on Vilhelms Purvītis

Produced by Nikita 雅涵 Tu-Bryant, directed / filmed by Jiaqi Tang and made with support from NZ On Air, the new short film follows the lovelorn artist travelling via dreamscape pathways to become the latest member of Broken Hearts Anonymous. Headline artist at this year's World Of WearableArt
Nikita 雅涵 Tu-Bryant picks up the thread of that project
inviting five collaborative dancers to make shapes in free-flowing
cult-like garments in sync with the multi-layered "love song..
inspired by the narrative of chasing only the good times"
A spellbinding teaser for Nikita 雅涵 Tu-Bryant's forthcoming feature film LOVE LIVES HERE (inspired by KITA's 2023 EP of the same name) — experience 'Chasing Summer' and don't miss KITA's own version of the single next Thursday..
"The music video was made after I finished my season in World Of WearableArt
it's been a really busy year (!) and I ended up producing the music video myself with funding from NZ ON AIR MUSIC
It was the first time I've had funding from them since I was 15
Due to the beautiful beast of a show that is WOW
naturally there was not much time to bring things together
and cast and crew for the making of this music video
I was incredibly lucky to bring on 5 performers from World Of Wearable Arts into the music video
We have Sharn Te Pou who was headlining WOW with me (The Dreamer and The Dreammaker)
three 1st year dancers from NZ School of Dance
The goal for the music video was to have fun
and apart from a couple of issues with Pōneke weather not wanting to play ball
We'll be celebrating the release of the music video Thurs 12 of December at Rogue and Vagabond in Pōneke
with our band KITA bringing our own rendition of the song
It's also a great excuse to celebrate the end of a big year
and things have been quiet on the KITA front as I finish our film
Over the years we've been mainly playing at San Fran
it's a good way to return to your roots and your old community to close the year"
'Chasing Summer' is out now on major streaming platforms
The new boss enemy joins its buddy the Bile Troll in the game's recently released Versus mode
Fatshark's medieval-fantasy pest control sim from 2018
continues to be neck-and-neck in popularity with its far more recent 40k successor Darktide
A big part of that is that there just seems to be a lot more scope within its design for super-fun updates.
Case in point: you can now play as a Rat Ogre in the game
The scarry stitched-up monstrosity is available to play in the game's versus mode, which finally came out last month
The Rat Ogre is a playable monster for the Pactsworn (the bad guys)
and can scatter Heroes with light and heavy—or more like heavy and heavier—attacks
You can viciously swipe at Heroes with your claws
hold down the attack key to unleash a downward slam for big damage
charges up an almighty leap that sends you flying across the stage and scattering Heroes like bowling pins
The Rat Ogre joins the Bile Troll as one of the Versus mode's 'Boss' monsters
but offers an alternative playstyle to its heavier
The Versus mode came out as a free update for Vermintide 2 last month
and is an interesting 4-v-4 twist on the game's Left 4 Dead-style swarm shooter (or slasher) loop
The Heroes team needs to complete various objectives around specially redesigned versions of existing maps
but in Versus the Skaven hordes have four actual players among them
taking control of special units such as the Ratling Gunner
The Heroes try to complete their objectives in the face of the Skaven swarms (plus four players)
There's a nice extra layer of verticality here too
as the Skaven can scamper up to high ledges and prepare ambushes for the heroes

Mukhametzyanov describes the upcoming expedition as the culmination of their evolution as climbers over many years

The Ogre is an impressive granite tower erupting from three groups of jagged Karakoram peaks: the Latoks
The North Face of the Ogre is accessible from the Choktoi Glacier
Baintha Brakk I, aka the Ogre, has seen only three ascents in history. The first, in 1977 by Doug Scott and Chris Bonington, is one of those well-known mountain epics
After climbing the southwest spur to the south summit
Doug Scott broke both his legs in a fall but managed to crawl down the mountain
took 20 failed attempts by several teams over 24 years
Kyle Dempster and Hayden Kennedy bagged the third ascent in 2012 via a new route up the South Face and earned a Piolet d’Or for it
a nearby peak whose name means The Ogre’s Son
Herve Barmasse and Daniele Bernasconi reconnoitered the North Face
which is even more vertical and dangerous than the South Side
bad weather prevented them from attempting the face
The unclimbed North Face of the Ogre and the route to the highest point reached in 2015 by Bruce Normand and Billy Pierson
Bruce Normand (UK) attempted the North Face of the Ogre in 2013 and 2015 with Billy Pierson of the U.S. Read Anton Karnoup’s extensive report on the 2013 attempt here
In 2015, they noted in the American Alpine Journal that a rock band halted them
It was “by no means the excellent granite for which the Ogre is famous
which takes no protection and would not even remain in place for long enough to host a tool or a crampon.”
which could perhaps be expected only in September
progress was impossible,” Normand added
Now it’s the Russians’ turn to take on this formidable beast

The “Rīga Forests” deer garden is located in the Tīnūži Parish of Ogre Municipality behind a high gate in a fenced area of 100 hectares of forest
A total of 48 deer are currently sold and delivered to the new owner
While deer are not visible in the large area at midday
local government company spokeswoman Ieva Bērziņa says there are still males left in the garden that could be dangerous to transport right now
They will therefore be transported to their new home in the spring
CCTV cameras show there are still about 10 deer here - 5 or 6 males and the rest are females and fawns
“Waiting for the bulls to drop their antlers
This will happen in March and then we'll see how we can arrange this deer relocation next,“ says Bērziņa
“Riga Forests” has managed the deer garden since 2008
meaning too few deer were in the paddock to form high-value genetic material
Maintenance of the deer garden has cost Riga forests 40 thousand euros a year
Several failed auctions have previously been held
but now the animals have been sold to a farm in Vidzeme
The total value of the herd is currently less than €7,000
but the largest amount is made up of maintenance and the people who serve the deer garden
about half a million have been spent in these years,” Berzina says
The area is also where there was previously no infrastructure
“It was all a very expensive pleasure for the company to develop the area,” she adds
it is planned to develop this wilderness forest area as an environmental education center. The forest will not be cut
“There's a very beautiful forest of spruce and pine trees
there's plenty of that area in the company
but we've specifically devoted this one to environmental education
and everything you can see in the forests of Rīga vicinity
The primary thing for us was to do the main work – to rid this area of deer
which will be done this year,” Bērziņa says
Population group objects – deer should be released into the wild
the Ogre residents support group has repeatedly opposed the plans of “Riga Forests” to abolish the deer garden
and one and a half thousand signatures were collected against the plan on the portal manabalss.lv
the compromise would be the release of animals into the wild
as this has been done with some in previous years
“Riga Forests” did not implement this scenario due to the objections of the State Forest Service
as it is not known how this would affect the wild population
But this year’s batch of Best New Bands seems to bypass that mess
These artists are tapping into something deeper
Break away from the algorithms feeding you the same ol’ batch of songs based on your mood
trapping you in your own head—hear what these new artists are doing

Pinocchio and Shrek's teenage daughter Felicia − sporting deep green lipstick
which has made appearances in other "Shrek" movies
including Shrek sporting pink sunglasses and a shirtless six-pack
As part of the announcement, Universal Pictures re-shared a 2017 X post from Zendaya that reads
Adolescent ogres were introduced in the 2007 release of "Shrek 3," when Shrek and Fiona gave birth to triplets: Fergus
the triplets have only been seen as babies in the franchise
The new trailer shared on Thursday has received mixed reviews − not because of Zendaya
the new animation appears cleaner and brighter than the first "Shrek" movie from 2001
but not everyone is happy with the final result
"Please tone down the animation," one Instagram user commented on the trailer
"You can upgrade quality without making them look airbrushed and overly polished
Others compared the trailer to Paramount's "Sonic" movie franchise, which had received criticism for its too-realistic computer-generation animation. After hearing complaints
Paramount and the film's director Jeff Fowler delayed the first "Sonic" released to redo the main character
"If we can collectively bully the producers of 'Sonic' to fix that movie
This looks like the Temu version of 'Shrek.' This is embarrassing," another Instagram user commented on the trailer
Jumping on the animation bandwagon, TikTok user Roger G questioned the purpose of the new film in the franchise's lineup
this should have been the last 'Shrek.' No doubt about it," Roger G commented
"Why are we going from '(Shrek Forever After:) The Final Chapter to 'Shrek 5'?"

The Chris Farley Shrek would have looked very different
If you're wondering how you're going to wait until Shrek 5 in July 2026
we at least have the delight of some early sketches from the first film to pore over
A post shared by DreamWorks Shrek (@shrek)
I assume Fiona doesn't have a face because the sketch was intended only as an exploration of her gown
The sketch of Shrek himself appears to have been based on Chris Farley
who recorded the voice for test footage of Shrek before he died in 1997
The sketches have reignited fans' intrigue about what a Chris Farley Shrek would have been like
An 1995-95 animation test showing Shrek singing I Feel Good showed a much darker vision for the film
This is believed to be the only footage of a Chris Farley Shrek
and it was discarded by DreamWorks at the time
Some people are now saying the early version should make a cameo in a future Shrek film

A meeting has been brokered between the main player and community representatives
"The past is the past and the future is the future," Bernie Sugrue
the Timaru-based owner of the dilapidated Palmerston Railway Station
said following a meeting he initiated last week
who also owns other premises in Palmerston’s main street
has been the focus of recent criticism about the state of his properties
He told the Oamaru Mail he was "there for the community" but believed he had been "wrongly accused" about his commitment to Palmerston
I’d love to actually think that we can support the community but we all need to support each other
Waihemo Community Board members expressed frustration at the "shocking" state of the town’s commercial area
This included views on the appearance of Ronaldsay St
in particular the now empty railway station
which in the past was home to a humming cafe business
Mr Sugrue said he believed things could be progressed if community leaders were prepared to work with him
he said he felt there had been progress in a "very positive" meeting with board members
and we now need to work on something moving forward ..
Waihemo Community Board chairwoman Heather McGregor agreed it was a "positive meeting"
"We have both agreed to meet with the economic development team at the Waitaki District Council to look at ways for revitalising the town," she said
She believed criticism had started within the past decade when Mr Sugrue painted over the original signage of the 105-year-old former Applebys family store building which he owns
Mrs Muir said comments on social media about Mr Sugrue had been "pretty nasty" and he did not deserve all the negative criticism
He seems to have gotten a really rough trot from people."
Mrs Muir said she believed the Waitaki District Council bore some responsibility for the image Palmerston presented
She and other business owners had paid for hanging flower baskets to help improve the appearance of Ronaldsay St but more could be done
Mrs McGregor said there was a proposed budget in the council’s 2025-34 long-term plan to improve Palmerston’s streetscape
The long-term plan also included a budget for an overall Palmerston master plan
Mrs McGregor encouraged locals to make a formal submission on the long-term plan
She said people could also contact the Waihemo Community Board any time about issues
Council rural parks officer Jane Matchett said there was a small budget for beautifying Palmerston and a plan would be developed with the Waihemo Community Board
That would include seeking community feedback
Waitaki District Mayor Gary Kircher said the Palmerston and Waihemo ward was an important part of the district
He said steps were being taken to help improve the town’s main street and to address Palmerston issues in a more timely way
This included a new locality manager for Waihemo under the council’s transformation restructure
"in an effort to ensure that work is getting done and contracts are complied with"
The reality of our daily lives is underpinned by a series of unshakable truths
someone will—eventually—put Shrek in it
Shrek would inevitably appear as a modded addition to the roster of Z fighters
But it's notable that someone had him in there fighting Gokus before the game had fully released
but modder Ercuallo uploaded the addon to Nexus Mods on October 9
2024—almost a full week before Sparking
As much as I'd be thrilled to live in a world where someone on the inside at Spike Chunsoft was cooking up some hot prerelease Shrek mods
that's unfortunately not what happened here
Zero is the latest game to join the trend of offering early access for those willing to shell out for deluxe editions
Zero's deluxe or ultimate editions were able to download and play the game on October 8
meaning that Ercuallo dropped over $100 just so they could spend their very first days with the game figuring out how to turn its characters into Shrek
I bet he'd look great with spiky silver hair

Rather than signing up new games to publish under the Infogrames label
Rosen wants to see it become a home to older titles with a proven track record:
Infogrames is pretty unique in that we had a lot of opportunities coming to us of games or IPs that people wanted to sell because they felt like they shouldn't just disappear
We felt like Infogrames was the right place to have those series and carry them on
for Infogrames it's really about games that developers and publishers have moved on from–that probably still have some life in them
[We're really interested in] IPs that have been out for a long time
The people who want to focus on their future projects and want to raise capital to make new games and focus on those–that's really what Infogrames is looking for
Why we don't typically look at unreleased projects is I don't think we're more qualified to do that than anyone else
I don't think we have a competitive advantage
I don't think we're the best in the world at it
One franchise Rosen would dearly like to work on is Quest's Ogre Battle / Tactics Ogre series
recently remastered Tactics Ogre on modern-day systems
but Rosen is nonetheless keen to work on the series in some capacity:
I would love to see us to something with Ogre Battle at some point
Even if it's not an acquisition–if Square is reading this please let us remaster Ogre Battle
Would you like to see Ogre Battle get a remaster
Infogrames was a publisher active from the 1980s to the 2000s

Damien has been writing professionally about tech and video games since 2007 and oversees all of Hookshot Media's sites from an editorial perspective. He's also the editor of Time Extension
which – paradoxically – is all about gaming's past glories
I have a feeling at somepoint NIS is going to become an Atari division
Unicorn Overlord did a good job of making a new game in the genre
but I wouldn't scoff at a remaster of the old game
They also have Brave Fencer Musashi just wasting away in a vault somewhere
Would love to see Infogrames become a preservationist remaster studio
the Atari Collection has a lot of great info in it
While I'd love a remaster of these old games
I have to admit that I feel we are reaching a point where everything is just remade/remastered to the point where we are just replaying everything we used to love
new IPs or new entries would be more welcome than recycled old junk at some point
@SmaggTheSmug Unicorn Overlord was so good
I'd probably replay it on a harder setting and do me some min-maxing on the teams
Unicorn Overlord definitely seems capable of scratching that itch
but if a remaster of Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen ever happened
my first game in the series was Person of Lordly Caliber for N64
I know Ogre Battle as that one game that got a special edition on the NGPC that costs like $2,000 nowadays
square enix has a real issue with remaster they are all pretty bad why don't they releases their games in a rom collection instead of remaking them worse then the original
Them having Together or Ogre Battle 2 on PSP and remaster for modern platforms it did surprise me why they never did 1 or the N64 entry as remasters
Or why not just a port collection of all 3 they seem to be pretty lazy or pretty less interested and handing them off to other companies and seem to care less and less for those IPs which is sad
I'll get back into it but it made it clear along with Front Mission 1st Remake and any others how careful I'll look at how older tactics games are (even the XCOM reboots were just as annoying at times) and I prefer the modern style ones quality of life and core design then older ones where while good just are enough to annoy me of grinding or core mechanics I just find tedious or not fun enough/flexible enough to enjoy
Fire Emblem or some Warhammer ones or even Mutant Zero are the best
Others from the past are probably good too
It's just the structure of them I find so much more flexible and engaging then the older Japanese games remade
Can't say for older western tactics as not explored them as much
I can stand grind but the limits in the 2 remake for levels is just stupid
attacking and it won't pass them it hits your party member in front is so stupid as well
Front Mission it's fair and was a better experience but the grinding/win to lose ratio and I would have liked more selecting parts to attack not whatever health bars work themselves out during either attack as a modern attack method option
You know more hit each limb and see what it does
The games are fine to be on modern platforms but some of their details do annoy me
Not because oh too old but I'd prefer some other options for things as they are still tedious or silly details in some of them
They insult the Tactics Ogre Reborn team by saying it's just a port (when they made extensive changes)
Square-Enix would probably let their stuff die rather than let someone else do it
they do a ton of outsourcing (to save money…)
I’d love to see them remaster the quintet games instead (soul blader
I wonder if Enix still has rights to those
@Pillowpants I think the real target audience for a remaster probably is people who have NOT played it
The more pressing concern with Quest is that they did make games without "Ogre" in the title.Where's Conquest of the Crystal Palace or the infamously expensive game Magical Chase?Famicom RPGs Dungeon Kid (a dungeon crawler with a creation mode) or The Adventures of Musashi might be cool (a VERY late DQ1 clone but it's got some charm)
but one you really have to want to make a time investment in.I only rented it once as a kid and quickly learned it was too big-brained for me.But also that the OST is awesome
Hold on there, you need to login to post a comment..

Jeremy Siegel: It’s now been more than 20 years since the world was first introduced to the ugly and anti-social but lovable ogre known as Shrek
Mike Myers [as Shrek]: For your information
there’s a lot more to ogres than people think
Siegel: Voiced by Mike Myers alongside Eddie Murphy as a talking donkey and Cameron Diaz as a princess
the animated movie centered on a big green monster with big protruding ears and an even bigger heart
Mike Myers [as Shrek]: People take one look at me and go
which takes a magical animated creature and brings him to life in person on the stage
singing]: I thought love was only true in fairytales
my name is Nicholas Hambruch and I play Shrek on the Shrek National tour
My name is Bridgit Crider and I am the hair and makeup supervisor for Shrek on tour
Siegel: Nicholas and Bridgit are the two people who make a real life ogre possible
which Bridgit says is actually not as tough as you might expect
Bridgit says they have this thing called a cowl
which is basically like a mask combined with a hat that they drop down over Nick’s head to transform his human-shaped noggin into an ogre head — weird tubular ears and all
Crider: He puts it over his head and it just covers his neck and it’s already pre-painted
And then we pretty much glue it on him and do a little special effects
Like so much that Bridgit and Nick didn’t know how to answer when I ask them how much green paint they use on a daily basis
don’t go in my dressing room after the show
It looks a bit like an ogre crime scene in there
it is a lot of work that requires a lot of time
Hambruch: My makeup call is about an hour and a half before performance
so we take about 30 minutes to get that cowl
And the rest of the time I’m sitting there in the makeup chair getting the green look on
Siegel: And getting all of that on is something that takes talent and experience
Bridgit has been in the industry for decades
But she’s humble and gives Nick all of the credit for bringing everyone’s favorite ogre to life
Crider: It’s a pretty easy process because he’s easygoing to work with
He basically does the rest as far as creating his own character
Hambruch [as Shrek]: Once upon a time there was a little ogre named Shrek who lived with his parents in a bog by a tree
becoming Shrek is a project that dates all the way back to his childhood
The characters has always been a part of my life
comes the pressure to get it right because everybody knows the Mike Myers performance
Mike Myers [as Shrek]: Ogres are like onions
Eddie Murphy [as Donkey]: They make you cry
Eddie Murphy [as Donkey]: You leave them out in the sun
I’ve always said that if you try too hard to be a one-for-one replica
then people are going to put your performance under the microscope and it’s going to be really hard trying to stay in it
Siegel: But Nick says if you’re true to yourself and give a performance that begins with who you are
the audience is happy to play along — especially for a story that’s all about being yourself
Hambruch: The thing about Shrek is that he’s really on a journey of self-love
which I think is a really important thing about this whole show
and having a master artist with buckets of green paint helping you look the part
I could be a poet and write a different story
Siegel: Shrek The Musical plays tomorrow night and Saturday at the Emerson Colonial Theater in Boston
singing]: The moon would help with spelling and night would dot the "I’s." I’d write a verse
Actor Nicholas Hambruch arrives at hair and makeup about an hour and a half before he takes the stage every performance night
The task at hand: Transforming him from a human actor to an iconic ogre — green skin
“The thing about Shrek is that he’s really on a journey of self-love
which I think is a really important thing about this whole show,” Hambruch said
“Shrek” is coming to Boston as a live stage musical inspired by the film
which takes a magical animated creature and brings him to life on the stage
It’s been more than 20 years since the world was first introduced to the ugly and anti-social but lovable ogre
Voiced by Mike Myers alongside Eddie Murphy as a talking donkey and Cameron Diaz as a princess
which had a short run in Seattle and made its Broadway debut in 2008
it’s a pretty easy process,” she told GBH News
Crider starts with a cowl — basically a mask combined with a hat — that drops down over Hambruch’s human-shaped noggin
“He puts it over his head and it just covers his neck
and it’s already pre-painted,” Crider said
“And then we pretty much glue it on him and do a little special effects.”
Getting the cowl just right takes about 30 minutes
“Don’t go in my dressing room after the show,” Hambruch said
“It looks a bit like an ogre crime scene in there.”
creating Shrek requires a lot of talent and experience
Crider has been in the industry for decades
But she’s humble and gives Hambruch credit for bringing everyone’s favorite ogre to life
“It’s a pretty easy process because he’s easygoing to work with
“I definitely grew up with the movies,” he said
The characters [have] always been a part of my life.”
then people are going to put your performance under the microscope and it’s going to be really hard trying to stay in it,” he said
But if you’re true to yourself and give a performance that begins with who you are
