Vanderbilt women's basketball landed its first transfer commitment of the offseason with former LSU center Aalyah Del Rosario
Del Rosario announced her commitment via Instagram on April 21
The 6-foot-6 Del Rosario was a 5-star recruit out of the Webb School - Bell Buckle in 2023
but she saw only sparse playing time in two seasons with the Tigers
she averaged 4.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in just over 11 minutes per game
she played just 6.25 minutes per game and averaged two points and two rebounds
Where Del Rosario has excelled the most is as a shot-blocker
with 38 career blocks across the two seasons
No Commodore recorded more than 21 blocks in 2024-25
Vanderbilt under Shea Ralph has previously found success with former 5-star recruits who didn't work out at blue-blood schools
Jordyn Oliver and Justine Pissott are fellow former 5-stars who later joined the Commodores via transfer portal
"(When players) go into the transfer portal that maybe just didn't find the right fit the first or second time
and then (Oliver) can talk to them about what we've been able to do here
how she's contributed to that," Ralph said after a loss to Oregon in the first round of March Madness
Del Rosario will compete for playing time with the Commodores' other post players: Aiyana Mitchell
Washington is an experienced fifth-year player who has more of a track record as a scorer than Del Rosario
Mitchell is 6-4 and provided a strong defensive presence off the bench in 2024-25
Vanderbilt has been desperate for more of a post presence after ranking 15th of 16 SEC teams in 2024-25 in rebounding margin
who missed the entire season with blood clots

she was not needed to play key minutes early in her college career
playing behind All-Americans Angel Reese and Aneesah Morrow

Freddie Aguilar of the “Anak” fame also signed in
Ilacad left Vicor to create a new company named Canary Records

After two years at LSU, Aalyah Del Rosario has entered the transfer portal. The former five-star prospect was unable to make an impact in her sophomore season, despite showing potential in year one in 2023-24, scoring 4.7 points per game with 3.5 rebounds. This past season, Del Rosario averaged 6.4 minutes with two points and two rebounds on 41.7 percent shooting.
At 6-foot-6, the hope was to develop her into LSU’s future starting center, but Sa’Myah Smith and Jersey Wolfenbarger quickly passed her up and took a majority of the minutes at center.
Del Rosario will still have two years of eligibility. She was apart of the Tigers’ No. 1 class in 2023 that included Mikaylah Williams, Janae Kent, and Angelica Velez. Now, only Williams remains from that class.
LSU also added freshman Kate Koval from the transfer portal on Monday, further solidifying the Tigers’ frontcourt over the offseason. There’s still work to do, but the roster turnover continues for Kim Mulkey’s program.
Del Rosario joins Last-Tear Poa and Sa’Myah Smith as the third tiger to enter the portal.
The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.
The process of entering the portal is done through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database and everything is off and running. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request and that request cannot be refused.
Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship no longer has to be honored. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school is not obligated to provide a scholarship anymore.
The database is a normal database, sortable by a variety of topics, including (of course) sport and name. A player’s individual entry includes basic details such asynchronous contact info, whether the player was on scholarship and whether the player is transferring as a graduate student.
