VISTA, Calif. (CNS) - A former campus supervisor at Diegueno Middle School in Encinitas who was arrested last year on suspicion of molesting a 12-year-old student pleaded guilty to sex-related charges this week
is slated to be sentenced in June to a stipulated 28-year state prison term following his guilty pleas entered Tuesday
Prosecutors alleged Galeana molested the girl and had been communicating with her and other students in an overly familiar fashion
including asking the students to delete their text message conversations with him because he could get in trouble
A lawsuit was later filed in San Diego Superior Court against Galeana and the San Dieguito Union High School District on behalf of the lead victim in the case
Attorneys representing the girl say district officials missed "red flags" regarding Galeana's behavior toward her and other students
He frequently drove the girl and other students in his car
regularly communicated with students over text messages and social media applications
and often spent time alone with students in secluded areas of the campus
The complaint alleged that allowing Galeana to have "solitary and unfettered access to children" provided him the opportunity to sexually abuse the girl both on and off campus
School district officials said at the time that the district "took immediate action to remove him from employment and work cooperatively with law enforcement" once they learned of the allegations

Florida market in 1981 and into South Carolina in 1988
Galeana Automotive Group has received numerous industry and community awards over the years
including being granted one of only 36 dealerships to represent the Saturn brand when they launched in the 1980s
Galeana committed to the superior customer experience very early on
combined with sincere value and respect for his staff
set the precedence for the way they still do business today
The group has represented many brands throughout the decades and currently represents Chrysler
For over 50 years this family-owned business has flourished
This is not only due to the conscientious approach to their business
but equally important is the dedication to the communities they call home

— A new lawsuit filed by a student in the San Dieguito Union High School District alleges the school system failed to properly supervise a staffer
who was charged in March with molesting the 12-year-old girl
The lawsuit filed against the district and former school supervisor Omar Galeana alleges the employee gave marijuana to the girl and drove her in his car to the beach and a park
“That is a sign of early grooming meaning that he was trying to get her to trust him,” said Morgan Stewart
The lawsuit alleges the district knew or had reason to know Galeana posed a risk to children but despite that
allowed him to work as a trusted school supervisor
went to the principal and reported that they had concerns,” said Stewart
Diegueno was arrested and charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors relating to the alleged March 23rd assault and for contributing to the delinquency of a second minor
The lawsuit alleges the district allowed Galeana to spend considerable amounts of time with minors unsupervised and says he utilized “grooming techniques” to get close to her and other students
He used WhatsApp and social media to communicate with students
The district attorney successfully argued against bail for Galeana earlier this year
He’s pleaded not guilty to the charges but hasn’t filed a response to the lawsuit
The San Dieguito Union High School District said it had not yet received the lawsuit
Spokesman Edwin Mendoza said when the allegations were brought to the district’s attention last spring
“We took immediate action to remove him from employment and work cooperatively with law enforcement so the facts could be gathered and justice may be served.”
He encouraged anyone with additional information to contact the San Diego Sheriff’s Department
“We continue to hope that justice will be served in this situation,” he said
Print Children and teenagers staying in the Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter can’t have their cellphones with them
This is one reason that shelter co-director Isabel Kluwe believes they should be commended
“I know a lot of adults who wouldn’t be OK with that,” Kluwe said with a smile
Children are allowed to stay there for up to three weeks
They are given a scheduled structure when they’re within those walls
A progress chart and words of wisdom are displayed in the dining room of the Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter. (Don Leach / Staff Photographer) The routine helps many of them. But Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter is currently looking for funding that it used to find
Shelter co-director Nancy Galeana said there has been a decrease in monetary donations in the current economic climate
but grant money is drying up for the facility
“For several of the grants that we were receiving
we’ve got to the point where we have to take a year or two years off,” Galeana said
“We’ve hit that wall where we have to take a break from certain grants before we can apply again.”
Ukeleles are a popular instrument in the game room of the Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter
(Don Leach / Staff Photographer) The shelter also has more competition than ever coming out of the coronavirus pandemic
“All of the amazing COVID funding that was spread out in order to really maximize reach to children and families at schools
“We ended up with some competitors who are getting some of that money that would ordinarily maybe come to us
because we’re all trying to do the same work
but we’re also competing for the same pot of money.”
The shelter’s last annual budget showed a deficit of $200,000
At the start of this month, the nonprofit started a “Change for Change” campaign
until the shelter holds its 18th anniversary celebration on July 18

This year’s Point in Time count showed that homelessness in Orange County is on the rise
with 7,322 people living either on the county’s streets or in shelters
That number represents about 1,600 more people than the 2022 count
Yet, of the more than 1.2 million children and youth nationwide experiencing homelessness identified by public schools in the 2021-22 school year, only 4% were unsheltered and 12% were staying in shelters
The rest were staying in motels or temporarily with other people due to a lack of alternatives
Many Waymakers Youth Shelter families fall under the umbrella of being either homeless or on the precipice of becoming so
Rooms in the Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter
(Don Leach / Staff Photographer) “The most common thing that we see working with some of our parents is that they’re working their jobs
“Every moment that keeps them away from work because they need to attend to their children puts them at risk of losing employment
“A place like this is preventative in that sense
We’ll do our best to accommodate your schedule
We have clinicians who stay as late as 8 p.m
The children at the shelter have plenty to do after they wake up at 7 a.m
plus two clinical practicum clinicians when the school year starts

and Isabel Kluwe stand in the game and living room in the Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter
(Don Leach / Staff Photographer) “I often tell people out in the community when we do outreach that when they come here
The funding shortage is a cause for concern. Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter doesn’t get money from the state. It does receive funds because of the federal Runaway and Homeless Youth Act
but Galeana said that represents only about a third of the budget
The leadership team finds that many locals
It has helped prevent youth homelessness for more than 2,200 Orange County children and teenagers since 2006
“I think one of the best ways people can help is just telling the people that you know,” Hein said
I think just extending our reach is invaluable.”

(KGTV) — An Encinitas middle school staffer arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old answered to charges Wednesday
was a campus supervisor at Diegueno Middle School for three months
before he was fired following his arrest this week
The alleged offenses happened on March 23 and 24
and the San Diego County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday there are at least two victims in the case
as well as contributing to the delinquency of a minor
The district attorney's office claims Galeana sexually assaulted a 12-year-old student
but he also faces charges for communicating with another 12-year-old student
"The defendant would communicate with the minors via text messages
specifically WhatsApp," Deputy District Attorney Nereida Bowman told reporters
"He would tell these minors to delete those messages because there would be consequences for him."
Bowman claims the alleged offenses happened this past weekend
and the district attorney's office is still figuring out if there may be more victims
She said Galeana also encouraged students to smoke marijuana
The district attorney's office successfully argued against bail
telling the judge Galeana was friendly with many students and Bowman said she feared for students at the school if he was released from jail
"We believe that this defendant had communicated with the minors prior to (the alleged sexual assault)
he was someone that worked at their school that they knew that they got to know pretty well."

Galeana's arrest is the third of a staffer at a San Diego County school in the last week

The second of two men accused in a confrontation with sheriff's deputies that led to an exchange of gunfire, injuring a deputy and one of the suspects in Thousand Palms
pleaded not guilty today to felony charges
and 34-year-old Jose Eduardo Rosales Perez of Desert Hot Springs are each charged with two felony counts of attempted murder on a peace officer along with one felony count each of being a convicted felon and narcotic addict in possession of a firearm and possessing ammunition
Galeana additionally faces two sentence-enhancing allegations of discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury
Galeana pleaded not guilty to the charges and denied the allegations Thursday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio. Rosales pleaded not guilty to the charges Tuesday morning
Deputies from the Palm Desert sheriff's station responded at 7:08 p.m. Oct. 18 to in search of a felony hit-and-run suspect in the area of Ramon and Robert Roads, according to Sgt. Deirdre Vickers of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies stopped a vehicle with two people inside -- Rosales behind the wheel and Galeana the passenger.
"While detaining the driver of the vehicle, the passenger fired at deputies,'' prompting at least one deputy to open fire, Vickers wrote in a statement. "The suspect barricaded inside the vehicle and refused to follow commands."
One deputy was struck by gunfire and taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, Vickers said. The sheriff's department's Special Enforcement Bureau and the California Highway Patrol subsequently responded to the scene to assist with the barricaded suspect, who ultimately emerged from the vehicle and was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the exchange of gunfire, according to Vickers.

Assistant Dean of Student Affairs Theresa M
Garcia has been giving back for over two decades
As a two-time alumna of San Diego State University
Assistant Dean of Student Affairs Theresa Garcia ('91
'09) has demonstrated steady support for College of Engineering students.
and Science Achievement (MESA) program in 1991
Garcia was surrounded by students who were interested in STEM but had yet to realize their path forward.
That’s when she became passionate about helping students identify their dreams.
When Garcia became director of MESA in 1997
she began giving back to the college every month through the payroll deduction program
“I was inspired to help students realize their dreams to become engineers or scientists,” she said
but what I could contribute was helping incrementally
she has become one of the most loyal faculty or staff donors of the College of Engineering
“It was to serve the students and truthfully
that’s just been my work to serve students and help them reach their success.”
Garcia can personally resonate with the obstacles students face because she was a first-generation college graduate who hadn't initially realized her call to higher education.
Coming from a family of agricultural workers
college was never in her line of sight until she was approached by a high school teacher who encouraged her to apply.
being guided by a high school teacher and others
I just want to help others because it changed my life
and it changed the lives of all of my family members after me.”
The assistant dean now holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management
and she credits the teacher who inspired her to pursue her education
Garcia directly understands the impact that giving back has on student achievement.
“It is truly the people that helped me that I am where I am
It was because of the teacher that put me on the path to college.”
she increased her contribution when she named the MESA Collaborative Annex
with alumna Daisy Galeana ('98) in the Center for Student Success in Engineering
Garcia’s support as a staff member and donor is reflected in the success that MESA and College of Engineering alumni have achieved after graduation.
I was a first-generation college student raised by my grandparents
and without the opportunities that MESA and Theresa provided
I don’t know where I would be,” said MESA graduate Jeremiah Jeffries (‘15).
After spending some time working in industry
Jeffries earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and began teaching for the San Diego Unified School District at Lincoln High School in the Valencia Park community.
Garcia connected him with Director of Outreach Luis Topete
who manages the K-12 MESA programs and together
they re-established a MESA program at Lincoln.
Jeffries brought his high schoolers to Senior Design Day on campus to meet professors and view the inspiring projects that the students had created.
As a teacher at a low socio-economic high school
Jeffries finds it especially important to bring his students to a college campus to interact with engineers
“It helps them establish long-term goals and envision themselves in the future,” he said.
“These are the kinds of stories that inspire me to continue doing what I’m doing
to help someone else,” said Garcia.
This is why she continues to give to the college
She encourages others who would like to give back to consider the payroll deduction program as well
For additional information on making a gift to the College of Engineering, contact Kate Carinder, Senior Director of Development, at: [email protected]

Officer Luis Galeana and K-9 Puskas have unwavering passion for the job
Sponsored by 5.11 Tactical
Santa Ana Officer Luis Galeana knew he couldn’t get to the suspect in time
had just crashed into multiple vehicles and violently carjacked a woman during an afternoon rush-hour pursuit through several cities
He was now on foot and heading toward an office complex
rushing up the long driveway of the complex and taking down the suspect with a running jump
The K-9 lost all of his incisor teeth from the impact and let go of his grip for a brief moment
allowing the suspect to temporarily gain the upper hand
As the suspect grabbed Puskas’ throat and tried to strangle him
the dog managed to free himself and grab his attacker by the arm
Puskas didn’t let go again until Galeana took the suspect into custody
News footage of Puskas’ heroics in February quickly went viral and made the 9-year-old police dog from Southern California an international star
the dramatic capture seen around the world was just another day on the job
It was what Puskas trains for every single day
“He did great despite the injuries he sustained
All of our dogs would have done the same thing,” Galeana said
I will brag about Puskas a bit; he’s very athletic
so I don’t know that all our dogs would have leaped 15 feet for a bite.”
Galeana and Puskas – named after the famous Hungarian soccer player Ferenc Puskás – have been partners for three years
working every day with Puskas is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream and the latest chapter in a nearly two-decade law enforcement career in which he’s worn many hats
officers used to stop in our neighborhoods to say hi and hand out baseball cards
I wanted to be a police officer – to get out there and help the community,” Galeana said
It’s just rewarding to see what you can teach a dog to do.”
the dog has had 10 apprehensions – from domestic violence suspects to wanted parolees
That’s on top of the bites – Galeana estimates around three or four – Puskas had under his previous handler
who retired before Puskas was eligible for his own move to civilian life
“Our dogs get a lot of work,” Galeana said
Garden Grove PD motor officer Katherine Anderson gives Puskas a kiss
Anderson was the officer who was nearly run over by the suspect Puskas took down in February
Behind all of the successful police work is an intense level of training
which is where Puskas’ dedication to the job is most evident
Despite being the oldest of the seven K-9s in the Santa Ana Police Department
Puskas came from Europe having already received some training in control
he underwent a five-week training course with his handler to mold what he’d already learned into police work
Puskas formally trains with Galeana four hours each week in addition to an eight-hour session with the entire K-9 team per month
“If I’m going out in the field to just toss the ball with him
“We’re constantly training and making sure our dogs are up to par for when we need to use them on the streets.”
Anyone with a dog knows that training isn’t always easy
In addition to the difficulties that come with training a “normal” dog
getting a K-9 where it needs to be presents its own set of challenges
it can be difficult for K-9s to obey commands in the middle of activities such as chasing a ball
Bite work and directional training can also be difficult
“We train every week to make sure we keep that up
because once you have the dog where he should be
I can do whatever I want today,” Galeana said
Galeana considers himself fortunate that Puskas is a good listener
“He’s a very senior dog and understands the game
Puskas had to stick with soft food during his recovery
It’s hard to overstate the intensity of K-9 training
and it takes a tough pup to be a successful working dog
Of the three injuries Puskas has suffered in the line of duty
In the middle of his initial five-week course
he fractured his jaw during a takedown and lost one of his canine teeth
during a desert session with a neighboring agency’s SWAT team
he was bit by a rattlesnake and required two days of hospitalization
“Poor dog’s been through quite a lot,” Galeana said
“He’s cost my department a lot of money,” he added
he needed surgery to pull out his broken teeth
get the roots removed and take bone fragments out of his gums
seeing your partner injured can be extremely difficult
But Galeana wasn’t worried about the dog’s physical pain – Puskas didn’t even seem aware he was injured
What Galeana feared was his partner’s ability to continue working in law enforcement
“What I didn’t want to do is retire him because of the injury,” Galeana said
“I want to retire him because he’s completed his service and he’s done his job to the best of his ability
I want him to continue to work because our dogs don’t do well with retirement.”
Besides being a little impatient to return to work
his recovery went smoothly and he was in fighting shape a couple of months after the incident
transitioning from working dog to pet can be difficult – sometimes disastrous
Galeana has seen what can happen to a K-9 when they have to become a house pet when all they want to do is work
With Puskas’ retirement fast approaching (Santa Ana K-9s normally hang up the badge at age 10 or 11)
Galeana has worked with the dog over time at learning to be a pet and letting go of the law enforcement side of his life that he loves so much
“I don’t want to shock him when he suddenly doesn’t come to work
I’ve been steadily breaking him into the house so he can get accustomed to being a pet,” Galeana said
which is great because at home he understands he’s off work and doesn’t have to be on the lookout
I got lucky that way because he has no interest in doing any of that
He spends more time with him than anyone else in his life
Galeana knows Puskas will always have his back
they’re out in the squad car looking for crime
Galeana prepares to take Puskas home from the hospital
people would think I’m crazy because I talk to Puskas all the time
Should we not?’ Just like it’s another person in the car,” Galeana said
When they’re not protecting the community on the beat
they’re making an impact inside the classroom
“He’s been a great ambassador to our department
We do a lot of demonstrations for schools,” Galeana said
“He loves being in the spotlight and the kids love him.”
Puskas is a guardian and companion for Galeana’s wife and his two teenage kids
“These dogs are mostly single-person – they don’t respond to anybody else but the handler
just because that’s what he does – he follows me everywhere I go
Galeana can’t imagine a better partnership
“It’s a good feeling to know that every time I get out of the car
he’s always looking at me – always – and I know he’s got my back
All I gotta do if I get into any kind of trouble is push a button on my belt and he’ll come out running to defend me
he’ll lay down and give me his stomach to scratch
He’s a sweetheart of a dog and I trust him to protect me
So I have to make sure that he’s safe and he’s well taken care of so that he can continue to protect all of us

As Riverside Prep senior cross country runners Domingo Galeana and Christian Soto finished another Agape Cross Valley Conference cluster meet in first and second place on Oct
Soto let his teammate and friend know the real race was only just getting underway
1 runner for the Silver Knights the last two seasons
He dominated the Cross Valley League last year and done the same as Riverside Prep moved into the ACVC this season
15 when Soto overtook Galeana to grab first place at an ACVC cluster meet
Soto followed 10 seconds behind in second place and after the race he told Galeana he was coming for him
but they are both experienced runners who have been doing this for some time," Riverside Prep assistant coach Rodney LaMar said
"I finally feel Christian Soto has the fire under his skin
He's ready to go out there and beat Domingo
The two runners downplay any talk of a heated rivalry
They call each other good friends and brothers
But the level of competition has certainly gone up in recent weeks
it's just sometimes when it comes down to the meet it gets competitive," Galeana said
but I would definitely say it's a little more competition."
it's the perfect time for competition to bloom
The ACVC Finals take place Tuesday at Riverside Prep
the postseason goes into full swing with CIF-Southern Section Preliminaries taking place Nov
they've been winning for so long that they need something to push them
It's not the first time the two have gone back and forth
Soto was the faster runner during their sophomore year
but Galeana has dominated the last two seasons
"Sophomore year that was his year to shine
"I had to train more and put in more miles."
The husband and wife coaches describe Galeana as an all-out runner who will compete through injury to get to the finish line
is more laid back but methodical with his running and training
for helping him set up training plans and detailed race strategies
Christian is kind of runner who waits until it matters in terms of moving on."
Despite finishing behind Galeana in the next race
Rodney LaMar said he saw an intensity from Soto that hasn't always been visible
"(That was) one of the first days I've seen a true competitive spirit come out in Christian Soto and he wanted to dominate his field," Rodney LaMar said about the Oct
"The issue with Christian is he didn't have the desire
He wanted to keep that friendship in contact."
The loss certainly gave Galeana a little push
but he said the loss made him realize he needed to put in more miles
he's 2-for-2 in beating his teammate since the loss
Both runners said they felt good and confident heading into the Mt
Galeana finished seven in the Division 4 sweepstakes race at 15 minutes
Now the goal for each is to make it to the CIF State Cross Country Championships on Nov
Soto hasn't made it past CIF-Southern Section Prelims
"It will be nice if both me and him make the state," Galeana said
One more race to see who has the guts to make it far in life."

After a disappointing loan spell with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2013
El Salvadoran national team midfielder Jaime Alas had to look elsewhere for the opportunity to earn playing time
Perhaps he will find it with new club Ballenas Galeana of Mexico's second division
As the San Jose Earthquakes continue building their 2014 roster, one name that will not be on the list is midfielder Jaime Alas. After his contract with Norwegian first division club Rosenborg BK was terminated, the El Salvadoran midfielder is set to sign with Ballenas Galeana Morelos of Ascenco MX
After arriving in San Jose last summer on loan from Rosenborg
Alas made 5 regular season appearances for the Quakes as well as a pair of starts in the CONCACAF Champions League group stage
Alas found it difficult to get first-team minutes in his three month stay with the Earthquakes
San Jose declined the transfer fee agreement in his loan deal
in the hope he can achieve the same objective and further his opportunities with the national team
The loss at the chance of re-signing Alas does not significantly affect the Earthquakes entering the 2014 season though it does leave plenty of room on the depth chart at midfielder on the current roster
Last week's addition of Harris helped build depth on the right wing along with Cato while starter Shea Salinas can count among his back-ups third-year winger Sam Garza
The MLS SuperDraft provides another opportunity to beef up the wings
but Doyle and head coach Mark Watson are more likely to look for central midfield and defensive help
Galeana Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Fort Myers dealership will auction off a brand new Viper with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $129,000 to benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida
The Viper will have no reserve and will be sold to the highest bidder at a very special auction on Dec
with 100 percent of the selling price donated to the children’s hospital
Galeana held a kickoff reception last week at its south Fort Myers showroom
Thursday for the Key To The Cure Saks event at the Bell Tower Shops in south Fort Myers and at Health Park Hospital Oct
“Our Galeana automotive family has a long history of service to the community through our support of local charities,” said owner Frank Galeana
“We are pleased to help the many young patients treated each year at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida through donation and auction of the Viper
We encourage everyone to get involved in this wonderful effort.”
Galeana’s donation of the Viper is part of its sponsorship of the 2015 Boston Red Sox Diamond Dinner event to be held at JetBlue Park in mid-March
