system left 2.5 million people in the Valley of México without water service the National Water Commission (Conagua) reported yesterday Although it was first estimated repairs would take 20 hours Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum announced it took only 12 hours to restore service to 12 municipalities in the valley’s metropolitan area Sheinbaum indicated via her Twitter account that the government would provide the necessary support to restore service to 100% as soon as possible Wednesday morning Sheinbaum tweeted that crews worked through the night to fix the mechanical issue A broken valve sent a geyser of water gushing from the ruptured line causing flooding and damaging eight nearby homes The Cutzmala water line is one of the largest drinking water systems in the world and consists of a 127-kilometer-long pipeline Source: El Universal (sp), El Financiero (sp), Milenio (sp) The number of vehicles in 12 densely populated México state municipalities that form part of the greater Mexico City metropolitan area has increased on average by 600% since the year 2000 The surge in numbers far outpaces population growth which show that the number of people living in the same 12 municipalities increased from 7.23 million in 2000 to 8.37 million in 2015 The municipalities where the 600% increase occurred are Data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) showed that in 2017 there were 4.6 million cars in those 12 Valley of Mexico municipalities the most populous in the Mexico City/México state conurbation Added to those in the 16 boroughs of Mexico City proper — where the number of vehicles has increased by a more moderate 100% from 2.5 million in 2000 to 5 million in 2017 —  there are at least 9.6 million cars in the immense sprawl of the megalopolis whose total population is estimated at around 21 million It’s no wonder that the TomTom Traffic Index ranks the Mexican capital as the world’s most traffic congested city one in which motorists can expect to spend an additional 227 hours a year — nine and a half full days — in traffic on top of their regular travel time the municipality that recorded the biggest increase in vehicles was Ecatepec where the number went from 147,000 in 2000 to just over one million in 2017 However, in Chimalhuacán — voted the worst city in Mexico in which to live in a recent survey — the number of cars multiplied by a factor of 17 located to the immediate east of Mexico City the number climbed 11-fold from 70,000 at the start of the century to 776,000 in the most recent count Ixtapaluca and Huixquilucan also recorded increases of above 1,000% There are now more cars in the 12 crowded México state municipalities than in all of the state’s 113 other municipalities combined Latin America director at the global nonprofit The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) says the exponential increase in the number of vehicles in greater Mexico City is the result of federal and state government policies that have favored road building over investment in public transit infrastructure Another factor has been the construction of large-scale residential developments in outlying metropolitan areas “This motorization is the result of a development model from the last century The use of cars has to be discouraged by promoting public transit and improving [infrastructure] for journeys on foot or by bicycle Traffic congestion brings about high economic and health costs,” he said Source: Milenio (sp) one of the largest pharmaceutical contract Zilla spinosa: Desert survivor thrives in Saudi reserve Look: Al Jouf's olive trees burst into bloom Rent-a-chicken takes off as egg prices soar in the US One of Mexico's most spine-chilling cases is that of the disappearance of four-year-old Paulette Gebara Farah Suddenly disappearing from her room on the night of March 22 the young girl with a physical disability and a language disorder was found dead in her bedroom in her house room located in Huixquilucan She had arrived that day from Valle Bravo to Huixquilucan accompanied by her sister and her father Her mother had put her to bed that night but the next day when one of the babysitters went looking for the little one The woman notified the girl's mother and a search began. In no time her disappearance took over the nation as authorities commenced a manhunt that would last nine days before Paulette's body is found - wait for it - in her own bedroom The decomposing body of young Paulette was wedged in between the mattress and the wooden footboard. This raised several questions into the investigations conducted by the police and the Attorney General of the State of Mexico Alberto Bazbaz Questions about why the police K9 units could not locate her if she was really under the bed the whole time were raised Plus it was noted that Paulette's bedroom was visited by at least 200 people during the course of the investigation -friends and extended relatives of the Farah family even slept in the same bed - how was then that her body wasn't found?  An autopsy report concluded that Paulette died of "asphyxiation that obstructed her respiratory airways and compressed her abdominal thorax" Despite that many contested this autopsy and the theory that she rolled headfirst into the gap between the mattress and the footboard and ended up suffocating herself Many strongly believed that she was not at home the entire time. As messed up as this case sounds there is a lot more to it - a lot more than only creates confusion - or rather adds to the theory that she was dead (killed/ murdered) elsewhere and then brought to the room.  One could easily argue that children have in their possession more than one pair of similar clothes all the inconsistencies around the case make it suspicious.  A part of Netflix's scripted crime anthology series 'Historia de un Crimen' 'The Search' digs deeper into the disappearance of the young girl The crime series explores notorious controversial crimes that have rocked countries decades "generated social turmoil and triggered charges of corruption and a search for justice" The synopsis released by the streaming service is as follows: “A girl disappears from her home in a wealthy urban development in CDMX, but her search is complicated by personal interests. Based on a true story". Starring Dario Yazebk, Diana Bovio and Regina Blandón, 'The Search' aka 'La Busqueda' premieres on Netflix on June 12
