The Barça family has a new member. It’s the mascot CAT, a wildcat, a native feline from Catalonia that has all the most characteristic elements of Barça in its DNA. The mascot CAT is known for being an FC Barcelona fan, charismatic, innovative, a leader, demanding, creative and inclusive, traits that inspired the creative process.
Presented at the gala at the Liceu held on 29 November 2024, the date of FC Barcelona’s anniversary, the mascot CAT does not have a defined gender, it is both female and male, thus becoming a modern symbol that represents its inclusive spirit, with a friendly and positive character. It is a cheerful cat, enthusiastic about both football and all the other sports that make FC Barcelona a multi-sport club, with both men’s and women’s professional and amateur teams.
Creating the new Barça mascot for the 125th anniversary was a long and inspiring process led by the FC Barcelona Identity Department, which covers everything involved with the Barça brand, and which remained a constant to ensure that essence was in the final outcome. The Club worked alongside the renowned Grangel brothers from Grangel Studio to produce it.
This creative hub founded by Jordi and Carlos Grangel is very close to the Spotify Camp Nou, and they have collaborated internationally with DreamWorks, Sony and Universal Pictures, among others, as well as creating major successes such as Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and Pinocchio. Their tremendous career has seen them work with famous directors such as Guillermo del Toro, Steven Spielberg and Tim Burton.
One of the key aspects that makes this new member of the blaugrana family even more special is that it was created based on one of the most representative symbols in Barça’s history, the crest. The mascot CAT came about by honouring Catalan roots, hence its name, and with the same pride that the Club feels by also representing the city of Barcelona around the world. The crest’s borders form its ears, as well as its cheeks and large laughing mouth, elements also in the crest itself.
In addition to its facial features, the Club’s colours are embedded in its DNA, also inspired by the crest, with blue and garnet prominent, plus yellow and white, among others. Along these lines, and to continue reinforcing its Catalan roots, there are four garnet stripes on a yellow background on its forehead, the FC Barcelona colours in its mouth, and a ball, also present in the crest.
The team responsible for designing the mascot and bringing it to life were DDT Efectos Especiales, founded by David Martí and Montse Ribé. This company has worked on major productions like The Orphanage, The Skin I Live In and A Monster Calls, among others. In 2007, they won the greatest honour in the industry, an Oscar for their work on Pan’s Labyrinth, directed by Guillermo del Toro. Last year they received yet another nomination, this time for Juan Antonio Bayona’s Society of the Snow.
Furthermore, the mascot CAT will also have its own social media profile on Instagram and TikTok, where you can follow everything it gets up (@catculer).
The Club has always believed in inclusivity and accessibility, promoting activities that are adapted and accessible to all. This commitment was particularly present during the process to conceive the new mascot for Barça’s 125th anniversary. In conjunction with ONCE and with the aim of making the mascot accessible to blind and visually impaired people, it is a touch and feel picture that means the mascot can be “seen” through touch.

In English: PACC to continue providing pet care support to Spanish speakers

winter is a season of bitter cold and numbing wetness
Make sure your four-footed family members stay safe and warm by following these simple guidelines
Keep your pets inside with you and your family
Under no circumstances should pet cats be left outdoors
even if they roam outside during other seasons
Dogs are happiest when taken out frequently for walks and exercise
Don't leave pets outdoors when the temperature drops
If your dog is outdoors much of the day for any reason
draft-free shelter that is large enough to allow them to move comfortably
The floor should be raised a few inches from the ground and covered with cedar shavings or straw
The doorway should be covered with waterproof burlap or heavy plastic
Pets who spend a lot of time outdoors need more food in the winter because keeping warm depletes energy
Routinely check your pet's water dish to make certain the water is fresh and unfrozen
Use plastic food and water bowls; when the temperature is low
your pet's tongue can stick and freeze to metal
ears and paw pads are at risk for frostbite and hypothermia during extreme cold snaps
short-haired dogs often feel more comfortable wearing a sweater—even during short walks
Rock salt and other chemicals used to melt snow and ice can irritate the pads of your pet's feet
Wipe all paws with a damp towel before your pet licks them and irritates their mouth

Store de-icing salt in a safe place and wipe your dog’s paws
Commit to supporting dogs who live outdoors by advocating to ensure that every dog has access to a shelter that provides protection from the elements
If there are outdoor cats, either owned pets or community cats in your area, remember that they need protection from the elements as well as food and water. It's easy to give them a hand
You can make your own cat shelter quickly and easily with a plastic tub
Cars are one of many hazards to small animals—warm engines in parked cars attract cats and small wildlife
bang on your car's hood to scare them away before starting your engine
You can also help make your property safe for deer in the wintertime by waiting until after the first week of December to string lights
you should also store summer recreational materials
Be sure your horses have access to a barn or a three-sided run-in so they can escape the wind and cold
While not all horses will need to be blanketed
blankets will help horses keep warm and dry
Give your horses access to unfrozen water at all times
You can use heated buckets or water heaters/de-icers to make sure the water doesn’t freeze
be sure to feed your horses more forage—unlimited amounts
This will help your horses create heat and regulate their body temperatures

More info: The opening show “Pacific Coast Ceramics” features work by Sharif Farrag, Anabel Juarez, Shio Kusaka, Tony Marsh, Dan McCarthy, Roger Herman, Ruby Neri, Alessandro Pessoli, Sterling Ruby, Brian Rochefort, Jennifer Rochlin, Anna Sew Hoy and Tam Van Tran; galeriamascota.com
Art galleries have remained one of the only places where people can consistently go for some social connection and visual stimulation during the novel coronavirus pandemic
galleries have become a cultural hub as well as a socially distanced public square
where the tourism industry’s working class crosses paths with well-heeled collectors looking for new works for their new Aspen mansions
Karla Garza and Javier Estevez are opening Galeria Mascota here with that in mind
“The idea is to make this space really open and welcoming to people,” Estevez said last week
The Aspen location in the Little Nell Hotel — the commercial space formerly home to Dennis Basso — puts the gallery slopeside and in the middle of the ski season action here
It’s the first expansion for the Mexico City-based Galeria Mascota
where the roster has included some young and undiscovered artists alongside well-established figures on the contemporary art scene
The first exhibition is a group exhibition of ceramic works by 13 artists
Opening with ceramics was a natural choice
as the ceramics that come out of Anderson Ranch Arts Center is among the Aspen area’s most prominent creative stamps on the international art world (Garza and Estevez admire and collect the work of local ceramicist Sam Harvey
Karla Garza has been coming to Aspen with her family as a visitor for the past 27 years
she was among the urban migration to the Aspen area of former tourists and second-homeowners who settled in for the long haul to enjoy the space and outdoorsy lifestyle
The idea to open a new gallery here developed since then
as a way to cement roots and to contribute meaningfully to local life as new residents
“I’ve always wanted to be part of the Aspen community,” she explained
I’ve wanted to give something back to Aspen after taking for so many years.”
they’re planning a bigger exhibition for the December holidays
traditionally a time when local galleries unveil their splashiest exhibitions of the year
Galleria Mascota is planning to open in mid-December a showcase of midcentury French furniture design
converting the gallery into a living room-like setting furnished with hand-chosen objects that emerged from the midcentury modern period out of Paris along with representations of their favorite architecture from the period
It is a sequel to a similar 2019 show in Mexico
as we’ve all spent most of the past eight months cooped up at home during the coronavirus pandemic and have turned a new critical eye to home furnishings
Galeria Mascota joins a growing list of new galleries that have opened downtown during the pandemic
as art galleries prove to be viable commercial and creative endeavors during the massive disruptions of COVID-19
Among the new entries to the scene in recent months are Quantummola
the return of the Gonzo Gallery and the soon-to-open Patrick Guyton Gallery on the Hyman Avenue pedestrian mall
Being a part of this fertile scene was a major draw for the Galeria Mascota
“People in Aspen are so passionate about art and design the same way we are,” Estevez said
“There are so many great galleries in Aspen and we want to bring our own perspective.”

The airline outlines the requirements for traveling with dogs and cats in the cabin
06/11/2024 - 2:02pm (GMT-5) |
A Cuban passenger expressed her gratitude to the airline Viva Aerobus for allowing her to make a successful journey from Cuba to Mexico with her pet
who traveled with her as an emotional support animal
Tania Moya described the experience on Facebook as "a complete success," emphasizing that there were no issues of any kind during the journey
it’s great that we can now bring a dog on the plane as a companion
as long as we meet all the required qualifications,” Moya noted
expressing her satisfaction with the service provided by the airline
which allows passengers to travel with their pets in the cabin in accordance with the airline's regulations
is regarded as a significant advancement for those who rely on the emotional support of their animals
Viva Aerobus specifies that dogs and cats meeting certain requirements can travel in the cabin with their owners
The maximum weight allowed for pets traveling in the cabin is 12 kg
The carrier should not exceed 44 cm in length
It is essential that the pet can stand up and turn around comfortably inside it
the carrier can be made of rigid or semi-rigid material to ensure safety during the flight
and only cats and dogs that are at least eight weeks old are allowed to be transported
The airline also recommends placing absorbent padding material inside the carrier to prevent spills and does not advise sedating your pet without veterinary approval
It is important to feed her regularly and offer small snacks before the flight
as well as to ensure she gets exercise and drinks water before boarding
don't forget to have your pet's necessary documents on hand to meet travel requirements
others resist separating from their dogs and cats
doing everything possible to reunite with them or take them along on their journey
An emotional reunion took place between the dog Kiara and her owners in Spain
after waiting five years to be reunited and leave behind a long separation
The beautiful moment when Kiara sees her owners was shared on TikTok by the pet transportation business Pet Cuba Travel (@petcubatravel): “After so many years
and her wagging tail is a testament to the immense joy she felt in being reunited with them.”
A similar case was the emotional reunion between a young Cuban and his dog in Miami
which went viral on social media and touched many people who watched the video
Dante is a white Labrador who had to stay in Cuba when his owner emigrated to Miami
its owner never forgot about it; he fought to get it back and bring it to its new home in Florida
a paradise located just two hours by car from the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta
It is home to more than 30 archaeological sites
invaluable testimony to Mexico’s pre-Hispanic past
tell stories of the ancient civilizations that inhabited these lands between 1 and 1600 AD
and birds dominate the engravings and provide a glimpse into the symbolic world of cultures such as the Huichol
is a prominent focal point with nearly 120 engraved stones
making it the area with the highest concentration of petroglyphs in the region
terraces and ceramics take us back to ancient times and reveal the daily life of the people who once called these lands home
Other points with significant representations include La Mesa Colorada
accessing these treasures can prove challenging
as many are located on private property or in hard-to-reach places
there is a solution: the Mascota Archaeological Museum
this museum houses over 600 pieces found in regional excavations
offering a fascinating insight into the life and funerary practices of Mascota’s ancient cultures
Among the most outstanding pieces is a high-purity quartz rock crystal
The museum is not only an educational experience
and a large outdoor area where artistic activities and temporary exhibitions are held for the enjoyment of all visitors
Photograph from the book Los Petroglifos del Valle de Mascota by Joseph B
I received in the mail a most interesting book entitled Arte Rupestre en Jalisco (Rock Art in Jalisco) by archaeologist Joseph B
It had been kindly sent to me by the author himself after I asked him perhaps one too many questions about petroglyphs
Joe suggested I might find many of the answers I sought in the pages of this richly illustrated
who registered his first pintura rupestre (rock painting) back in 1964 and has analyzed some 20,000 glyphs since then
you really need to visit the first-class museum he has set up in the Casa de Cultura of Mascota (140 kilometers west of Guadalajara)
where you will find a whole room dedicated to petroglyphs
a project carried out in collaboration with National Geographic magazine
the caretaker of the museum will even lend you a little guidebook to the place in English
Mascota by the way, is a beautiful and fascinating little town well worth a visit even if petroglyphs are not your thing
here are a few insights on petroglyphs that I gleaned while reading Arte Rupestre en Jalisco:
are related to ceremonies aimed at obtaining rain from the sun god for the benefit of those plants and animals that ancient peoples depended on for their sustenance
The ceremonies had to do with that critical transition from the dry to the rainy season
and the drawings were destined for a god rather than for fellow human beings
“Approximately 98% of the petroglyphs [in western Jalisco] can be explained by only three intimately related factors: sun
In respect to the age of most Jalisco petroglyphs
the great majority were made during the Postclassic Period (900 to 1500 AD)
although a few may go back to the time of Christ
the main source of ethnographic information for interpreting rock art is the Huichol culture,” says Mountjoy
customs and beliefs quite well,” he points out
adding that the religious symbolism of the Huicholes was the subject of an extensive study carried out in the 19th century by ethnographer Carl Lumholtz
Many of the rock-art designs we see could be interpreted as the physical manifestations of prayers offered up to the sun god to obtain some practical benefit
As the walls of some Catholic shrines are filled with milagritos
testimonials giving thanks for favors received from on high
many ancient petroglyphs were chiseled in rock begging for such celestial favors
Perusing the book’s many color photos of rock art
I learned that the symbol for the sun god is often a set of concentric circles
but it can also be as simple as an unadorned pit carved in the rock
The more elaborate designs can also have arms
representing either the god in anthropomorphic form or a shaman who carries out rites supplicating the sun god
Mountjoy says it is “the physical manifestation of a ceremony during which the Sun God was entreated to send rain.”
Since many petroglyphs are a prayer for water
it’s not surprising he’s found them to be most abundant in areas where rivers and pools typically dry up during the course of the dry season
One of the most commonly depicted animals in west Mexican petroglyphs is the deer
Mountjoy found hundreds of petroglyphs representing an important ceremony that is still practiced today among the Wixárika (Huichol) people: the Sacred Deer Hunt
The original purpose of the Sacred Hunt in ancient times was not to kill or eat deer but to catch them alive
carry them to a ceremonial site and finally to prick their ears in order to obtain a few drops of their blood
“In Huichol mythology,” says Mountjoy,” this hunt was ordered by the gods Father Sun and Uncle Fire for the purpose of anointing ritual objects with deer blood,” says Mountjoy
“It was the last stage of the pilgrimage to obtain peyote in order to make sure the sun keeps shining …
“The deer’s blood was also essential for the toasted corn ceremony
So it can be seen clearly how the Huicholes related sun
The Sacred Deer Hunt took place somewhere between January and March and may have lasted as long as a month
the hunters had to come back with the number of deer specified by their shaman in his dreams
the shaman would call the deer with the help of a megaphone made of tree bark
Dogs would be used to drive the deer into a narrow canyon
where they would then be trapped in nets and carried off
These elements of the Sacred Deer Hunt can be seen again and again in Mountjoy’s photos of rock art in Mascota’s Ocotillo Canyon
A fascinating section of the book is dedicated to a kind of rock engraving called the patole
This is the ancient equivalent of board games like backgammon or snakes and ladders
the Aztecs used big beans painted with white dots and known as patoles
The oldest patole petroglyphs go back to 300 A.D
and are found in places like Teotihuacán and Palenque
There was an elaborate kind of patole shaped like a rectangle with a cross in it with 52 spaces where your token could land (representing the Mesoamerican century)
A great many of these were recently unearthed at La Presa de la Luz near Arandas
As proof that the ancients were board game fans
“abbreviated patoles” have also been found with only 12 spaces
Mountjoy encountered both styles in the Mascota area
playing patole also included drinking alcoholic beverages and gambling for high stakes.”
we are reminded that most petroglyphs were considered sacred by their makers and that visiting sites with rock art should be considered like stepping into a temple or a church
Damaging petroglyphs or making fires near them (which can cause the rock to fragment) would be very offensive to native peoples
beautifully printed by Acento Editores of Guadalajara
The price is 150 pesos and — for the moment — it is for sale exclusively at the Casa Cultural in Mascota. You can also download the PDF version (4.47 megabytes) free from my website
The writer has lived near Guadalajara, Jalisco, for 31 years and is the author of A Guide to West Mexico’s Guachimontones and Surrounding Area and co-author of Outdoors in Western Mexico. More of his writing can be found on his website

Saint Louis University's mascot doesn't just bring team spirit
He's a symbol of good luck on campus and around the world
The Billiken is a mythical good-luck figure who represents "things as they ought to be."
Before he was Saint Louis University's mascot
To buy a Billiken gives the purchaser luck
but to have one given to you is better luck
PHOTOS: The Billiken mascot through the years
patented her "design for an image" of the Billiken in 1908
"I concluded if there is a chance that we shape our own lives
and my clay was mine to fashion as I would
which embodied hope and happiness to sort of live up to."
It is believed that Pretz found the name Billiken in a poem by the Canadian poet Bliss Carman and gave the name to her patented design
which she sold to the Billiken Company of Chicago
It is not confirmed if the firm acquired its name from the Billiken or if it was an established name before the company bought the rights from Pretz's invention
Another version of the story says that Billy Gunn
who ran a drug store near Saint Louis University
Gunn's drugstore one afternoon and was greeted by the proprietor with: 'Bender
and eventually the University teams became known as the Billikens."
SLU's mascot has gone through quite a few physical changes over the years, all of which have brought luck to Saint Louis University's sports teams and smiles to the faces of SLU fans. But at Saint Louis University, students have tied the school mascot to the University's Jesuit mission. Now being a Billiken is a way of life. See what they have to say in this video

Unanime - when exceptional climate and passionate people harmoniously come together as one
Mascota Vineyards produces signature wines bringing together the exceptional properties of the Argentine soil and the passion of a winemaker who boasts more than 25 years’ experience in the wine industry.
‘Composers can create a piece inspired by their memories, and artists can paint a picture of a place they once saw or of emotions they once felt. Through Mascota Vineyards I can express my experiences and bring my memories to life.’ Rodolfo ‘Opi’ Sadler, who crafted these wines, thus refers to the passion he puts into his work.
Mascota Vineyards offers an exclusive portfolio of products, all of them unique, elegant wines which have won international recognition. We are thrilled to have been recognized by the IWSC as the Argentine wine producer of the year 2014.
Unanime, from the Latin ‘unanimis’ refers to a group of people who share the same opinions or views, who are in complete harmony or accord.
This simple word summarises the spirit of this special project: when we were finishing the 2005 harvest, both our winemakers and agronomists agreed that the time was ripe to start crafting a superior red blend, a ‘Gran Vino Tinto.’
We wanted to showcase the great wines Argentina can offer when exceptional climate and passionate people harmoniously come together as one.
This blend is made of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec and 15% Cabernet Franc. All the grapes were grown in selected old vineyards from the Uco Valley, in Mendoza.
Deep cherry-red in colour, UNANIME stands out for the intensity of its fruit flavours and its aromatic complexity. Its long 20-month ageing in French oak confers it elegant aromas of tobacco and chocolate, along with a touch of blackpepper and some fleshy notes. This wine will continue to age nicely for years to come.
Unanime 2011 was awarded 93 points and was selected as the Editor’s Choice in the red blends category by the American wine magazine Wine Enthusiast.

the traditional Mexican bolillo sandwiches stuffed with sliced meats
carne asada (grilled flank steak) or spicy chorizo sausage
A couple of teenagers in low-slung jeans and white sneakers have dropped by for an after-school snack
nodding toward discounted bags of day-old pastries piled on a rolling metal cart
taking in the dozens of galletas (cookies)
and finally settle on a half-dozen rainbow-colored pressed butter cookies shaped like wreaths and four-leaf clovers
“The hardest part is seeing the neighborhood kids grow up so fast,” Rose says
“And finding time off to spend with the family,” her sister-in-law adds from her perch
save for a handful of holidays and two weeks in August
you just have to work hard to make it happen,” Valencia continues
“And you do have to get along with all the in-laws and out-laws to work here

is a charming little town located three-fourths of the way between Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta as the cuervo flies
with a history that goes back countless centuries
guide books like the Lonely Planet series had not a single word to say about Mascota
dirt road that used to connect the town to the rest of Mexico
inevitably smothering the traveler for endless hours in great clouds of choking white powder
more and more people are discovering that Mascota definitely deserves the title Pueblo Mágico
which Mexico’s Tourism Ministry officially gave it in 2015
The name of the town has nothing to do with the Spanish word mascota (pet or mascot) but seems to come from the Náhuatl word maza-ocotl-atl
I headed for Mascota with the intention of scouting out nearby El Malpais Volcanic Park
a lava field said to contain some of the world’s youngest minettes
A minette is defined either as “a beautiful French girl” or as “an igneous rock with phenocrysts of biotite
augite and olivine.” I figured we’d be happy if we ran into either one or both in the hills outside Mascota
so off I went with a group of friends interested in doing something different
If you drive to Mascota from Guadalajara, there are two delightful spots you may want to visit along the way. One is the little town of Guachinango
whose gloriously shimmering church is covered with thousands of shards of porcelain plates
The second site is a small but surreal mountain called La Campana
situated right next to the highway and decorated with bizarre
Although you can walk from the bottom to the top in 20 minutes
most people spend a couple hours on La Campana
we reached our hotel: El Mesón del Refugio
a fine example of Mascota’s attractive casonas
grandiose old buildings which now serve as hotels
the very first casona in Mascota to be licensed as a hotel
it has a delightful patio surrounded by big rooms with thick walls
you need a fire truck to change the light bulbs
Don’t be surprised when you’re handed a room key so big it won’t fit in your pocket
said to be the most popular place to eat in Mascota
we wandered over to the Centro de Cultura (Culture Center) to visit one of the very best small-town museums in all Mexico
The treasures you will find here are mainly thanks to the archaeological skills and hard work of Dr
who lives in Mascota and has been exploring its surroundings for many years
you’ll find a whole room of the museum dedicated to them
with excellent pictures taken by National Geographic photographers
Here you will also have an opportunity to gaze upon a genuine patolli
a pre-Hispanic version of the game of Snakes and Ladders
chiseled onto the surface of a large and flat horizontal rock
Many of the extraordinary finds presented in this museum are well described in Jim and Carole Cook’s excellent blog
which also takes you on a tour of the town’s very curious Museo de Piedra (Stone Museum)
we headed north out of town towards Parque Municipal Petrificado el Malpais
We followed reasonably decent country roads for five kilometers and then found our way blocked by a locked metal gate
“Is this the way to Parque el Malpais?” we asked him
“¡Este parque no existe!” said the farmer: “This park does not exist!”
My eye wandered up the hill behind the gate where even my poor old eyes could see the lava field we were looking for
“How about if we park outside your gate and go up on foot?” we tried
I suggest you cross it off your bucket list and instead
go for a walk around the grounds of Mascota’s Templo Inconcluso de la Sangre Preciosa (Unfinished Temple of the Precious Blood)
but you will surely be awestruck as you wander beneath its great arches and towering walls never joined together or roofed — a monumental wonder sprung from the mind of its architect
although the builders certainly gave it their best shot
we decided to pay a visit to Juanacatlán Lagoon
which lies 12 kilometers northeast of town and nearly 800 meters above it
The lagoon is the showplace of the Sierra Lago Resort & Spa
which I heard was beautiful and expensive but which I had never had a chance to visit
The road to Sierra Lago starts off paved with four strips of concrete
and at the end you are on cobblestone or dirt
The gain in altitude guarantees dramatic changes in flora and fauna
we stopped just to get out of the car and gawk at the extraordinarily tall pine trees and the gorgeous madroños (strawberry trees)
There are also plenty of “sad pines,” Pinus lumholtzii
considered rare or endangered in many places
one can’t gawk too long because the road is rather narrow and it’s no fun to meet a car coming the other way
especially at one of those points with a steep cliff on one side and a 200-meter drop on the other
we reached the imposing gate to Sierra Lago
we wouldn’t be allowed use of any of the facilities
Strolling along its shore simply enraptured us
The Sierra Lago people have gone to great lengths to make the place even more attractive
circling the kilometer-long lagoon with a wide malecón (shoreline sidewalk) dotted with elegant sculptures and benches
we felt a bit out of place in this posh setting
have a perfect right to jump into the water or stroll along the lagoon’s perimeter
Sierra Lago has even designated an area where the public can camp free of charge
I am delighted to add Juanacatlán Lagoon to my list of Mascota’s secrets
and I definitely plan to continue investigating all of them

La pine processionary (Thaumetopoea pityocampa) represents a considerable risk for our pets
especially with the arrival of warm weather
these caterpillars descend from their nests in a procession to complete their biological cycle
which puts them in direct contact with the ground and
The nests of these caterpillars are easily identifiable by their appearance of white bags on the branches of pine trees
Processionary caterpillars are covered with stinging hairs containing a toxin called thaumatopin
upon contact with the skin or mucous membranes
release the toxin and trigger a severe allergic reaction
The consequences can include edematous swelling
tissue necrosis and even more serious problems such as anaphylactic shock
especially dogs and to a lesser extent cats
are vulnerable to the pine processionary moth due to their curious behaviour
They can be affected in the following ways:
Contact with the processionary caterpillar is a veterinary emergency
it is essential to go to a veterinarian immediately

Mexico —The residents of this farming community of 8,800 people knew a hurricane was coming
They had been hearing about the storm all week on television
Hurricane Patricia had grown into a Category 5 hurricane
But as the monster storm packing sustained winds of 200 miles per hour churned toward Mexico’s Pacific coast
many residents in Mascota were not too worried
“They were saying the storm was going to hit Puerto Vallarta
a 56-year-old teacher who works at a beauty salon on the side
about 55 miles east of the famous coastal beach resort
“A lot of people from Mascota live and study in (Puerto) Vallarta,” Rodriguez Carrillo said
“A lot of them came back to get away from the storm.”
The colonial town of cobblestone streets and 200-year-old adobe buildings was one of the hardest hit areas of the storm
which left Puerto Vallarta virtually unscathed and overall caused much less destruction than originally feared
the rain was pounding and the wind was howling
bending the tops of trees almost to the ground
had gone to visit their son earlier in the day
They decided to spend the night rather than drive back to their home in the rain
which normally runs about 300 yards behind their house
the closest they could get was a block and a half away
was trapped inside his house with his roommate and a woman who had taken refuge with them
The three climbed up to a second-story storage shed after the torrent of water surrounding the house flooded the first floor
Peña Palomera could hear debris slamming into the thick adobe walls while the three of them huddled in the drizzle with nothing more than blankets to protect them
who was out selling raffle tickets for the town's annual festival when she was caught in the storm
but I told her to stop crying and calm down," Peña Palomera recalled
The three escaped with their lives at 5 a.m
when soldiers borrowed a small row boat and rescued them
had used string to tie up the windows in their house to keep them shut during the storm
She yanked off the string and looked outside
The road had been replaced by a torrent of rushing water
Yasmin was terrified they were about to be swept away
was still asleep in the bed next to theirs
She called her sister and told her to come quickly
She arrived a few minutes later in a pickup and parked about 50 yards away
Ruben scooped up Ximena and hoisted the child onto his shoulders
the couple stepped down onto the cobblestones and into the darkness
Yasmin clung to Ruben's arms as they slowly made their way to the pickup
terrified they would fall and be swept away
They were joined by other neighbors also trying to escape
Yasmin climbed inside the pickup with Ximena
For the next two hours he and a brother-in-law helped rescue other neighbors from their houses
One neighbor used a forklift to rescue families from second floor apartments surrounded by water
About 1,500 houses in Mascota were affected by flooding
an aid organization that sent a team to Mascota to help assess the damage
But authorities reported no deaths or serious injuries
The flood also washed out a bridge leading to the farming community of Santa Rosa
rice and other crops were also washed out by the flood
leaving behind inches of thick brown mud contaminated with raw sewage
Florentino scooped handfuls of the muck out of his stove
He pointed to a line on the wall where a tape measure showed the water had reached three and a half feet above the floor
They found Naqui clinging to the top of a cabinet and Quica still in its cage on the kitchen counter
next to a statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe
residents armed with buckets and brooms also spent the day sweeping the mud from their homes
The town and the Red Cross have set up a shelter near the center of town for about 50 families who have nowhere to sleep
Many others were staying in the homes of relatives
Yasmin lifted one of the waterlogged pillows from her sofa
She said authorities told her not to expect water to be restored for at least five days because the pipes had broken
The electricity came back on Saturday night
said it will take a long time to earn enough money to replace everything they lost
much of it bought with money he earned working on farms in Iowa before returning to Mascota six years ago
the family is living in Yasmin’s grandmother's home
But even when their house is dry enough to move back in
"Nothing like this has ever happened before," Yasmin said
"But now I am afraid it could happen again."
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic mascot's name is Someity
(pronounced soh-may-tee) which comes from someiyoshino

Someity has tactile cherry blossom sensors and exhibits enormous mental and physical strength
It represents Paralympic athletes who overcome obstacles and redefine the boundaries of what is possible
Someity is a cool character with cherry blossom tactile sensors and super powers
It can send and receive messages telepathically using the cherry blossom antennae on both sides of its face
It can also fly using its ichimatsu-pattern cloak
but it can exhibit great power when necessary
It embodies Paralympic athletes that demonstrate superhuman power

MascotaSISA: the club’s mascot! We welcome a new member of our red and white family
SISA is a funny fly who lives at Mosquilivi
and she is going to be around the stadium cheering for our team
playing with the fans and annoying those who don’t cheer for the team
Flies are closely linked to the history of the city of Girona and the Saint Narcís legend too
It represents the defence of the city and the hope that
a teamplayer and a fighter when defending the city and the team
characteristics of Girona FC which are very well represented with her
while Girona was besieged by French troops
a group of french soldiers entered in Sant Feliu’s Church with the intention of destroying the bishop’s tomb
large flies came out of his body and they attacked the French soldiers and their horses
causing many deaths and making them run away from the city
The fly of Sant Narcís represents this defence of the city and the fighting spirit
The club began a survey to choose their new mascot where the members had the final decision
A first survey was launched to choose which city legend would represent the mascot
The fly of Saint Narcís was the clear winner with more than a 55% of the votes
The club members decided that it represented the club and the city better than the other two legends
the ‘lleona’ and the ‘cocollona’
It was time to name the mascot and the members had the opportunity to propose a name
The majority part of the proposals were aligned with the name of SISA
and therefore this is the name our mascot was called
SISA will perfectly represent the values and feelings of the club and the city of Girona
She will be another fan of the club and will cheer for our team to lead us to the victory

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses
Some coronaviruses cause cold-like illnesses in people
while others cause illness in certain types of animals
infect only animals and do not infect people
Some coronaviruses that infect animals can be spread to people and then spread between people
Animals infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been documented around the world
Most of these animals became infected after contact with people with COVID-19
We don’t yet know all of the animals that can get infected
Animals reported infected worldwide include
For information on how to protect pets and animals
The risk of animals spreading COVID-19 to people is considered low
There is no evidence that animals play a significant role in spreading SARS-CoV-2
There have been a few reports of infected mammalian animals spreading the virus to people during close contact
These cases include farmed mink in Europe and the United States
the animals were known to be first infected by a person who had COVID-19
It’s important to remember that people are much more likely to get COVID-19 from other people than from animals
There is no need to euthanize or otherwise harm animals infected with SARS-CoV-2
There is a possibility that the virus could infect animals
and a new strain could spread back to people and then among people (called spillback)
More studies and surveillance are needed to track variants and mutations and to understand how SARS-CoV-2 spreads between people and animals
SARS-CoV-2 has been reported in farmed mink in multiple countries. Currently
there is no evidence that mink are playing a significant role in the spread of COVID-19 to people
respiratory disease and increases in mink deaths have been seen on most affected mink farms
some infected mink might also appear healthy
Infected workers likely introduced SARS-CoV-2 to mink on the farms
and the virus then began to spread among the mink
as well as from mink to other animals on the farm (dogs
One wild mink and a small number of escaped farm mink trapped near affected farms in Utah and Oregon were found to be infected with SARS-CoV-2
Although there is no evidence that mink are playing a significant role in the spread of SARS-CoV-2 to people
there is a possibility of mink spreading SARS-CoV-2 to people and other animals on mink farms
Mink-to-human spread of SARS-CoV-2 has been reported in the Netherlands
and data suggest it might have occurred in the United States
Guidance is available to protect worker and animal health, developed collaboratively by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), CDC, and state animal and public health partners using a One Health approach:
Prevent Introduction of SARS-CoV-2 on Mink Farms: Interim SARS-CoV-2 Guidance and Recommendations for Farmed Mink and Other Mustelids
Response and Containment Guidelines: Interim Guidance for Animal Health and Public Health Officials Managing Farmed Mink and other Farmed Mustelids with SARS-CoV-2
USDA maintains a listexternal icon of all animals and mink farms in the United States with SARS-CoV-2 infections confirmed by their National Veterinary Services Laboratories
More studies and surveillance are needed to understand if and how different animals could be affected by COVID-19
Many studies have been done to learn more about how this virus can affect different animals
including if they are susceptible to infection and if they can spread infection to other animals
Studies on animals do not show whether animals can spread infection to people
and amphibians are not susceptible to infection with SARS-CoV-2
CDC has been leading efforts to improve our understanding of how SARS-CoV-2 affects animals and how the virus might spread between people and animals
CDC has also worked to improve coordination of federal

If you want to know which stretches of highway to avoid in Jalisco
you’d be better served checking social media than looking at the United States government’s Mexico travel advisory
although doing the former might put you off travel altogether
The U.S. Department of State’s current advisory says that violent crime and gang activity are common in parts of Jalisco and advises U.S
government employees that they must not travel within 12 miles (19 kilometers) of the Jalisco-Michoacán border
on Federal Highway 80 south of Cocula and on State Highway 544 between Mascota and San Sebastián del Oeste
According to a report by the newspaper Informador
social media users have identified 14 other dangerous stretches of highway in Jalisco
A map published by Informador shows all 17 high risk stretches of highway
— JALISCO (@informador_JAL) July 1, 2022
Informador also published the accounts of several motorists who have had frightening experiences on Jalisco highways
Josue’s pickup truck was stolen by armed men who cut him off with two vehicles when he was traveling to Michoacán from La Barca
“Eight men got out with AK-47s and handguns,” he said
adding that he was forced into one of their vehicles and taken to La Barca
“We saw two police vehicles [on the way to La Barca] and I thought there would be a shootout but … [the police] just let us pass.”
Tomás was traveling on State Highway 604 with his family when he was cut off by armed men
“Pointing their weapons at us they approached and asked us to identify ourselves
One of them recognized us and shouted that we were acquaintances
was traveling toward Yahualica when he was cut off by two pickup trucks on a bridge
The archbishop of Guadalajara and the bishop of Zacatecas also recently found themselves in scary situations while traveling in Jalisco. Both men were stopped at organized crime roadblocks in the north of the state
“They demand you say where you’re coming from
what you’re doing,” said Cardinal José Francisco Robles Ortega
Zacatecas Bishop Sigifredo Noriega Barceló said it was the first time he had encountered an organized crime checkpoint
“We were going from Huejuquilla to Tenzompa
… What struck me was that it wasn’t the National Guard or the army [who stopped us]
They were people from one of the crime groups
We take the [safety] measures that everyone takes [but] there’s no special protection [for bishops],” he said
Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro asserted Tuesday that there are no organized crime checkpoints on the state’s highways
“Freedom of passage is guaranteed in this state,” he said
“There is no … roadblock on any highway in Jalisco
Alfaro said he was surprised that Cardinal Robles chose to recount his experience to reporters rather than file a complaint with authorities
“We have profound respect [for the archbishop but] we’re very surprised he made a media statement and not a formal complaint,” the governor said
a University of Guadalajara security researcher
described Alfaro’s remarks as “unfortunate,” saying that he demonstrated a lack of empathy with Robles and other victims of highway violence
who often don’t report their experiences due to fear of repercussions
The academic said the governor needs to acknowledge that a problem exists and work with federal authorities to stop it
Villarreal noted that criminal groups set up roadblocks both to demonstrate they have control of a particular area and to stop undesirables from entering
Unofficial checkpoints can be found in many other states including Sinaloa, where reporters and officials were stopped by armed men while traveling to one of President López Obrador’s events during his tour of the northern state in May

The Barcelona presidential candidate makes a bold statement
Barcelona presidential nominee and former club president Joan Laporta made a recent statement where he called out Real Madrid president Florentino Perez’s first term
Florentino Pérez when he saw that his team had become our mascota.”
This is obviously more of a political move as Laporta is a main candidate
to replace Josep Bartomeu and he is bringing up his record during his first term as Barcelona president
Florentino Perez of course resigned in 2006
Laporta is clearly being a bit hyperbolic in saying that his performance at Barcelona caused Perez to resign from office
this could be a preview of some of the rivalry between the two clubs intensifying once again

Known for its colorful altars decorated with papel picado
is a Mexican celebration that has transcended borders
has survived the passage of time and has undergone transformations to continues to serve the memory of lost loved ones in the Latino community
Among the changes that Día de Muertos has experienced is the practice of honoring pets on Oct
27 by including their photographs on ofrendas
their favorite snacks and even their favorite toys are placed
Such is the case of the operations manager at The Arizona Pet Project
decided to celebrate the Day of the Dead by building a community altar for pets
"It's really about pets being part of your family," Soto said
you love them when they're in your life — just like your family — and you love them when they're gone."
the organization offers services throughout the state of Arizona to help people continue to care for their pets and prevent them from ending up being adopted out
Soto has invited the Phoenix community to honor her deceased furry friends by placing her photograph on the Day of the Dead ofrenda in the south Phoenix office
Her mother makes the decorations by hand at her house and then takes them to the center so Soto and other volunteers can help her put together the offering
the Day (of the Dead) and the time to celebrate it
makes the feeling of joy much stronger than that of sadness," Soto said
but you're so much more grateful that you had them."
Remembering lost furry loved onesSoto lost her 14-year-old cat named Henry in March and seeing his photograph and his favorite toys on the small altar she built for him in his favorite space in her house has helped her overcome the pain that his death caused her
She said this celebration helps people process their grief after losing someone and that the vibrant colors associated with the altar help people not fear death because it is a natural part of life
building altars each year for the deceased is a generational and historical defense mechanism instilled in her as part of her culture
Including her pets in this tradition happened organically since she has always considered them as part of her family
Last year they put a photograph of her mother's pet
Espi became Soto's grandmother's best friend as they talked and even watched television together
Soto said it was interesting to see her grandmother
experience having a pet for the first time
since when she was a child her family never had pets inside the house
Soto also said that having a pet is a different experience for people who belong to different generations and cultures
"Nothing makes my heart happier than seeing someone walk their dog
they would just run around and then come home."
Soto shared that growing up she celebrated the Day of the Dead by making altars with “long white candles” in her home but that her main memories are of the days she spent in the cemetery with her family
Soto said it was like having a “picnic” in the cemetery
since after cleaning the graves of her deceased relatives
everyone would start eating while listening to live music and talking
this has been the way people celebrated the Day of the Dead on Nov
known as “All Souls' Day,” according to the Catholic calendar
These characteristic practices of the Day of the Dead were carried out in private in the U.S.
but it was thanks to the Chicano Movement that the Day of the Dead celebrations were brought to the public sphere
according to the professor of the Department of Latino and Caribbean Studies at Rutgers University
Inspired by Indigenous and pre-Hispanic rituals more than 3,000 years old
activists and artists participating in the Chicano Movement organized the first public exhibitions of the Día de Muertos in 1972 at the Self Help Graphics & Art gallery located in Los Angeles
California and at La Raza Gallery located in San Francisco
"Part of the Chicano movement was highlighting Mexican traditions and celebrating them with pride in a way that had not been done before," Marchi said
"There was a big movement to embrace multiculturalism and be proud of your roots instead of trying to assimilate and hide your family history."
In addition to promoting Day of the Dead parades
Chicanos were also the first to politicize altars by dedicating them to people who died as victims of domestic violence
people began to consider including their pets
who is also the author of the book “Day of the Dead in the United States: The Migration and Transformation of a Cultural Phenomenon,” where she compiled his observations and conversations about the celebration of the Day of the Dead in the United States
Mexico and other Central American countries
As this celebration has gained popularity outside of Mexico
Marchi began to observe changes in the altars and public displays that people make to celebrate the Day of the Dead
Among them is the inclusion of figures of the Xoloitzcuintle — a type of dog native to Mexico that has no hair — since it was the companion of Miguel
The Xoloitzcuintle was included in the story thanks to the creators of the Coco film consulting with Chicano and Latino artists
who considered this dog an inherent part of the iconic celebration due to its relationship with Aztec culture
remains of bones of the Xoloitzcuintle have been found along with remains of bones of people in Aztec ruins since these dogs were buried with their owners to be together in the other world
and it was thanks to initiatives to keep the Xoloitzcuintle alive during the 1950s that the breed remains alive
"It is true that this dog (the Xoloitzcuintle) has a history that goes back thousands of years in the Aztec culture," Marchi said
people sometimes like to think of things as a straight line
where this has been an unbroken line of our culture
such as the impact of colonization on "the cultures
and the near extinction of certain practices and the struggles to revive them in trying to bring them back and make them stronger."

Constantino’s family lineage takes root in Zamboanga
hails from a family firmly planted in the fertile soil of Cagayan de Oro
cultivating traditions steeped in warmth and hospitality
unionizing a commitment that reproduces the strength and beauty of their love.
Constantino had envisioned her wedding taking place in Zamboanga
challenges prompted her to reconsider this plan
she found solace in the idea of integrating traditional Zamboanga wedding attire into their prenup shoot
While hosting the wedding in Zamboanga City proved challenging
their desire to pay homage to their familial origins remained resolute.
fate intervened when Constantino and Vazquez found themselves in Zamboanga for a family affair last February
“I saw it as an opportunity,” she explained
the idea of a prenup shoot with the backdrop of Zamboanga’s cultural body was unearthed
“I reached out to my designer friends in Zamboanga and asked if I could borrow a Mascota outfit for a quick photoshoot,” she recounts
Ben Jason Caranay graciously agreed to lend her a Mascota ensemble
It was this rather serendipitous moment where she felt a connection to her heritage
As Constantino reminisced about her collaboration with Caranay
and although I was planning to just use my camera for the shoot
he contacted a photographer and makeup artist
it was this whole official photoshoot,” she shares with a surprise
“It turned out for the best because now we have these really beautiful and timeless images depicting family heritage.”
Caranay instructed them to proceed to an atelier instead of picking up the single Mascota ensemble from his home
Constantino’s emotions swelled as she described the moment she entered the atelier of renowned designer Federico Navarro
“I was teary-eyed walking into the atelier,” she confesses
“There before me were six beautiful Mascota de Zamboanga sets.” The memory of that moment still vivid in her mind
“They simply said ‘take your pick’
and I was just overwhelmed with the beauty and intricacy of the designs.”
“I chose Ben Jason’s for its soft but strong contrast with piña fabric beaded with black beads and florettes
paired with a black floral skirt,” she explains
a sense of admiration evident in her words
“And I selected Federico’s because it’s white with a hint of blush pink with beautiful dainty beading and appliques.” Bea’s decision to incorporate both dresses reflected her appreciation for their beauty
“Initially I was only going to wear one,” she says
“but they were too beautiful to not add one more set.”
Recalling the experience of donning the Mascota ensemble for the shoot
Bea couldn’t help but feel a profound connection to her ancestors and the land they called home. “It felt emotional for me,” she shares
“As someone who considers heritage an integral part of my life
wearing traditional attire feels like a nod to my ancestors and the hometowns where our family started.” The weight of history and tradition rested on her shoulders
yet it was a burden she deemed not as unnecessary but rather as an honor to carry.
“I’m not sure if our shots contribute anything,” Bea continues
“but I do hope they spark some curiosity about our hometown
a certain interest to maybe know more about Zamboangueño culture and fashion and perhaps even visit someday.” Her desire to share the beauty and richness of her heritage shone through like verdant limbs
reaching far and wide to touch the hearts of those who glimpse its majesty
“I have a few more shots in next traditional outfits
the next is Tausug which is interesting because it’s so different and vibrant.” Imagining the vibrant colors and intricate details of the Tausug attire
one could almost feel the energy pulsating through her words
“I have another Mascota outfit by Federico Navarro also,” she adds
The anticipation of showcasing more of her cultural heritage at the wedding was palpable
Bea’s passion for preserving tradition towered.
we worked with Chef Margarita Fores and her amazing team in incorporating our Mindanaoan heritage into the menu,” she explains
“And they really crafted such a special and unique spread for our guests to enjoy.” One could almost taste the flavors of Mindanao as Bea described the culinary delights that awaited their guests
“I’m excited for everyone to experience that!” she exclaims
With each detail carefully curated to honor her heritage
Bea’s wedding promised to be a celebration of culture
and legacy is the branch of a tree that finds its strength rooted in culture: nurtured and watered proudly by Constantino
As her wedding planning unfolds with the vitality of a cultural festival and unfettered by the constraints of mainstream expectations
her reverence for her customs forms every aspect of the celebration
branching out like the boughs of a mighty tree
ingrained in the soil of her cultural heritage
The journey to her big day is not just about saying “I do”
but about proving that love knows no bounds—and neither does she

An estimated 10 to 20 percent of the worldwide population – around 1.5 billion people – is affected by pet allergies.1 Yet pet ownership is reported to be growing dramatically around the world.2
According to surveys by The American Pet Products Association (APPA) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)
anywhere from 57 to 62 percent of American households have at least one pet.3 Yet an estimated 31 million Americans are allergic to animals
including up to 30 percent of those who have asthma
many allergic symptoms occur whenever they are exposed to common household pets
It helps to understand how pets can trigger allergies and what steps can help protect you
Below are 6 common misconceptions about pet allergies
you can take action to live comfortably with the pets in your life
Pet hair alone does not cause allergies – hair often carries saliva
chemicals from urine like urea and ammonia
Allergic reactions to pets are actually caused by these components of pet dander like microscopic skin flakes
The hyperresponsive immune systems of those with allergies attack these otherwise harmless substances with the overproduction of immune cells called immunoglobulins (IgE)
These cells stimulate inflammatory responses to help rid the body of the allergen.6 This is what triggers such frustrating symptoms like sneezing
Animals with more fur are more likely to carry other allergens
because of the larger surface area of hair that these allergens can adhere to.7
handle pet hair carefully and clean household dust with caution
as it may contain pet dander that can trigger allergic reactions
Consider wearing a mask when you clean areas frequented by your pets to help prevent dander from entering your airways and triggering allergy symptoms
If you have a confirmed allergy to animals
it usually will not get better through increasing exposure
That’s according to the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy.8
studies have confirmed that early childhood exposure to cats
and other animals may lower the risk of developing allergic reactions later in life
A 2020 study in Pediatric Allergy and Immunology of 3,781 Finnish children found that exposure to dogs or cats early in life reduced the risk of developing asthma or skin reactions to allergens by age five.9
it’s worth noting that an earlier 2015 study in the same journal suggested that children between one and four years old may experience more severe allergy symptoms when exposed to a pet in the home.10 This indicates that while pet allergy symptoms may be more acute earlier in life
pet exposure may have longer-term benefits in preventing more severe allergy symptoms
In a 2011 study of over 8,000 European children
researchers found that children continuously exposed to cats from the time they were one year old were 67 percent less likely than others to develop allergic asthma.11Another 2018 study in PLOS One of over 1,000 Swedish children also found that children with pets in the home growing up saw their risk of allergies drop from 49 percent (if they had no pets at all) to almost zero (if they had five or more pets).12
some breeds are believed to be better for allergy sufferers than other breeds
Typically the best breeds are those that shed the least fur and/or are the most frequently bathed
Smaller dogs also produce less saliva than do bigger dogs.13
The American Kennel Club recommends breeds that produce the least dander for allergy sufferers.14 Those breeds include:
and other warm-blooded mammals can also trigger asthma and allergies in people with allergies to animal dander
A 2005 study in Clinical and Molecular Allergy found that people with IgE hypersensitivity to pet dander had similar reactions to dander from guinea pigs.15
Birds are also a major problem for many allergy sufferers
as birds release dander into the air through activities such as cleaning their feathers
If you are allergic to animals but still want a pet
Because of their microscopic size and jagged shape
pet allergens easily stick to clothing and other fabrics and are carried to other locations
Animal dander in sufficient levels to cause allergies can also be found in many public places such as the workplace
Those with severe allergies also may want to avoid the homes of family and friends who have the type of pet that irritates their allergies
Verdict: It depends on the air purifier
Only a high-performance air purifier can help
low quality air cleaners make little or no difference at all
However, many allergy sufferers report that running a high-efficiency air purifier
in combination with improved cleaning and exposure reduction methods
has reduced or completely eliminated their allergic reactions to pets in their homes

February is Responsible Pet Owner month. Mississauga Animal Services has many animals, including cats, dogs and other pets, like rabbits and guinea pigs, available for adoption. If you already own a pet, it’s important to ensure you’re providing them with the appropriate standard of care outlined in the Animal Care and Control By-law to help protect animals and ensure their well-being
In addition, Animal Services welcomes foster parent volunteers to care for a pet in the short term until they are ready for adoption
Dog pens and enclosures must meet specific measurements based on the size and number of dogs inside
Animals must not be left in a pen or tethered for more than four consecutive hours
the tether must be at least three metres or 9.84 feet
The animal should be in view of the owner with access to food
Another area of responsible ownership includes providing veterinary care to pets to relieve distress from injury
Visit our website to learn more about the standards of pet care
If you can no longer care for your pet based on these standards of care
Rehoming your pet means finding another home for them without surrendering them to the shelter
This means your pet won’t live at a shelter waiting to be adopted
you can communicate directly with the new owner and provide first-hand information about your pet
To rehome your pet, visit Home to Home. This service is free and does not allow money to be exchanged between owners. If you have questions, concerns, or want to discuss other ways to rehome your pet, contact the Animal Services Shelter
Animal Services has responded to several disturbing animal cruelty concerns in Mississauga over the past few years
including a cat being thrown from a moving vehicle
Officers also found a plastic storage container left outside the shelter with two terrified cats inside
Animal Services was able to rescue the animals
providing medical attention and a safe place to recover
There is no reason to resort to cruelty. To report cases of animal neglect or cruelty, please call the Ontario Animal Protection Call Centre at 1-833-926-4625. FORMER Rangers winger Ryan Kent is on the lookout for someone to look after his CROCODILE
That's according to reports in Turkey which claim the ex-Light Blues star is advertising for someone to watch over his pet
The 26-year-old, who left Ibrox in the summer on a free transfer to join Turkish giants Fenerbahce
has sent the national press into a frenzy with his bizarre advertisement
The job is said to come with a $3,000 salary and health insurance, an offer which another outlet Yenicag described as "astonishing"
Turkish site EnsonHaber say Kent is "known to have a special interest in wild animals"
Ibrox skipper James Tavernier once revealed that the forward owned TWO crocodiles during his time in Glasgow
He even bought former Rangers teammate Nikola Katic a small snake for Christmas back in 2018 as an unconventional Secret Santa gift
Kent has made four appearances so far this season for Fenerbahce, scoring on his debut in Europa Conference League qualifying.
He penned an emotional farewell to the Ibrox faithful upon leaving
Kent wrote on social media: “Thank you to all the Rangers fans
“My time at Ibrox is something I will remember for the rest of my life
“As a Liverpool academy player I followed Steven and Mick on loan - but that soon became five years as I immediately fell in love with the club and fans
“I have made some memories that I will look back on with great happiness
“As a kid it is a dream to play in European competitions
“But to do that in front of the Ibrox crowds is something else entirely
