winning a unanimous decision over Matias Romero in his ProBox TV debut
One judge scored the 10-round junior lightweight fight a shutout
while two judges found a round to give Romero
awarding White the unanimous decision victory at Maryland Live Casino
a nine-time national amateur champion from Washington
scored a victory over his most experienced opponent in Romero
an Argentinian whose three previous losses came against Robeisy Ramirez
appeared to be on his way to an early finish early in the fight
White found the opening he was looking for in the third round with a counter left hook off a Romero right hook to the body
White remained patient and finally connected with another shot that sent Romero to the canvas again – though it was ruled to have come after the bell had sounded to end the round
Instead of jumping on his wounded opponent
continuing to pop the jab and look for openings whenever Romero opened up
One of those openings materialized in the seventh round
when a left hook counter once again wobbled Romero
plus a right hand at the bell that caused White’s nose to bleed profusely.
The blood wouldn’t be a factor in the decision
but it was perhaps the break Romero needed in order to last the distance
Romero saw his three-fight winning streak snapped
while remaining winless in the United States

White, 18-1 (12 KOs), of Washington, D.C. is relishing a 14-fight winning streak, which includes knockout wins over undefeated fighters Misael Lopez and Eridson. Though the 27 year old has fought on national television – including those two previous wins on ShoBox – White feels his ProBox TV debut will be his biggest opportunity to make a name for himself yet.
“I’m definitely one of the greatest fighters in the world, one of the best at 130 and I will be able to prove that on April 12,” he said as a nine-time national champion as an amateur who is rated 12th by the WBC at 130lbs.
The 28-year-old Romero, 29-3 (10 KOs), has fought some of the biggest names around his weight class, including a close decision loss to Isaac Cruz, and Michel Rivera and Robeisy Ramirez. The resident of Cordoba, Argentina is promoted by Sampson Lewkowicz, who warns that Romero is not coming to America just for a payday.
“It’ll be a cat and dog fight,” said Lewkowicz, who is credited with helping bring hall of famers Manny Pacquiao and Sergio Martinez to the world stage.
“This guy is in trouble. No Argentinian on the A level will come just for the money; He’s coming to fight.”
White-Romero will be supported by a co-main event that features heavyweights seeking to rebound from past setbacks.
Stephen Shaw, 20-2 (15 KOs), of St. Louis, Missouri will face Raphael Akpejiori, 18-1 (17 KOs), of Miami by way of Lagos, Nigeria in a 10-round fight,
The 32-year-old Shaw has won two straight since successive losses in 2023 to Efe Ajagba, while the 34-year-old Akpejiori has won three straight since his lone defeat – a second-round stoppage against Arslanbek Makhmudov in 2023.
The rest of the card will feature prospects from around the “DMV” area, including super flyweight Jordan Roach, 3-0 (1 KO) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; super welterweight Travon Marshall, 11-1 (9 KOs), of Capitol Heights, Maryland; welterweight Benjamin Johnson, 3-0 (3 KOs), of Springdale, Maryland; junior lightweight Francois Scarboro Jnr, 9-0 (7 KOs), of Cheverly, Maryland; and welterweight David Whitmire, 9-0 (6 KOs).

Throughout the 36-minute affair, Cruz constantly applied pressure against his opponent which led to Romero, the more seasoned professional, to hold excessively in an attempt to stall the pressure. Despite being warned frequently by referee Harvey Dock, the 24-year-old Romero was never penalized. During the rough-and-tumble contest, however, Cruz was docked a point in the sixth round for a low blow.
Romero presented an effective jab throughout the fight, landing 89 of 282, but it was Cruz’s power punching that ultimately earned him the victory. Cruz, who is now the No. 1 contender for a world title shot at 135 pounds, landed 145 of 459 power punches, including 91 body shots.

He’ll fight Jose Matias Romero atop a ProBox TV card in Hanover
not far from his birthplace in the same state
couldn’t be looking forward to the moment more
White’s nickname might draw a raised eyebrow at first glance: “Shortdog,” like a blunter cousin of Isaac Cruz’s “Pitbull.”
I was the smallest kid on the field,” said White
My dad kind of gave me the nickname … but that kind of solidified it
has channeled that same hard hitting as a professional boxer
White tends to win wide unanimous decisions
as he did in his last fight against Jason Sanchez
“It’s definitely going to be something for the world
because everybody at home know what I’m bringing,” White asserted of his upcoming performance
White’s probably right to be confident – since a unanimous decision loss to Adam Lopez in a six-round fight way back in 2017
White was 19 years old when he met Lopez and fought with a broken left hand
White also has an extensive amateur career in his books, which he thinks will serve him well against Matias Romero – who has fought the stiffer of the competition so far during their professional careers.
“I’m a nine-time national champion,” White said. “You know, so many fights. I fought in the Golden Gloves, made it to the championships. I’ve been to Russia, I’ve been to Italy, I’ve fought in the junior win tournament. I was the first one to win… I definitely have a very decorated amateur career. I probably had 165 fights, I maybe lost 12.”
After all that, fighting at home must feel positively quaint.
Roach, of course, is coming off a disputed draw with lightweight star Gervonta Davis last month and is hoping to secure a rematch soon, but in the meantime he will be supporting his family and gym mates at the Casino Hotel in Hanover, Maryland on Saturday, April 12.
Junior lightweight contender Jordan “Shortdog” White is 18-1 (12 KOs), who fights out of Washington DC, and he meets the 29-3 (10 KOs) Argentine Jose Matias Romero, who has won three in a row since a 2022 loss to classy Cuban Robeisy Ramirez.
White had two outings in 2024, stopping Jonathan Oquendo-Arnaldi in a round and then outscoring Jason Sanchez over 10 rounds.
A third-scheduled 10-rounder on the show pits New Haven, Connecticut’s William Foster III against fellow junior lightweight contender Brandon Leon Benitez.
Foster, “The Silent Assassin”, is 18-2 (11 KOs) and won two of his three fights in 2024 while Mexico’s former featherweight Benitez, 21-3 (9 KOs), is coming off a defeat to Robeisy Ramirez last June.
There is a host of local talent on the show, too, with 9-0 (6 KOs) welterweight David Whitmire, 3-0 (1 KO) super-flyweight Jordan Roach, 3-0 (3 KOs) welterweight Ben Johnson, and 9-0 (7 KOs) junior lightweight Francois Scarboro Jnr.
The 5’4” lightweight from Mexico City did his best to turn a wrestling match into a fight, though was properly compensated in a 12-round unanimous decision win over Matias Romero. Judges Glenn Feldman (114-113).
Steve Weisfeld (a questionable 118-109 card) and Kevin Morgan (115-112) all ruled it in favor of Cruz in their WBA lightweight title eliminator Saturday evening at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Cruz insisted prior to the fight that he didn’t feel any pressure to live up to his previous performance, an explosive 53-second knockout of former title challenger Diego Magdaleno last Halloween in San Antonio. The squat Mexican stayed true to his word, coming forward and simply executing the game plan as mapped out by his team.
Romero did his best to put his height and reach advantages to good use, boxing from the outside and landing a heavy jab. Unfortunately, his main default to combat against Cruz’s relentless pressure was to frequently clinch. It made for a slow-paced opening round, though with the threat of action picking up soon thereafter.
Within the first minute of round two, Romero twice fell to the canvas—both in attempts to clinch during exchanges. The unbeaten Argentinean drew another warning for the infraction from referee Harvey Dock, though it was far from the last foul to be called in the disappointingly sloppy affair. Romero was effective with his right uppercut from the outside, though overshadowed by his propensity for clinching anytime Cruz worked his way inside.
Cruz drew a warning for a low blow in round three, though Romero was accused of pulling down on his opponent’s head to cause the foul. Cruz continued to let his hands go whenever they were free, while Romero looked to work his jab and keep the fight on the outside.
By round four, Romero’s game plan seemed limited to circling the exterior of the ring and simply holding onto Cruz whenever the threat of a fight surfaced. Cruz managed a right hand late in the round, with Romero dipping down and pitching forward which caused a clash of heads. Romero suffered a cut over his right eye which was examined by the ringside physician prior to the start of round five.
Cruz went on the attack in round six, though was a bit too overzealous. A wild right hand strayed well south of the border, resulting in a point deduction. Romero took his time to recover, spending the rest of the round on the outside.
Romero was warned by his own corner—including head trainer German Caicedo—to avoid excessive clinching given the numerous warnings issued by the referee. He did his best to oblige, only to leave himself open for body shots from Cruz after leaving his midsection exposed while bending low at close quarters. Cruz took advantage, connecting with right hands and left hooks downstairs.
Cruz briefly buzzed Romero in round eight, though unable to follow up on the sequence. Romero was still on the move though occasionally planting his feet and firing off combinations. Cruz managed to close the gap, though an attempted chopping right hand instead resulted in pushing his foe to the canvas.
Both boxers landed right uppercuts in the early moments of round nine, with Romero getting the better of the exchange. Cruz charged forward, targeting the body with his right hand only to leave himself open for a four-punch combination by Romero. Cruz remained undeterred, working his way back inside and landing consecutive right uppercuts with roughly 30 seconds to go in the round.
Cruz landed his most telling blows of the fight in the final minute of round ten. The streaking contender connected with a heavy right hand which Romero took well but was momentarily frozen along the ropes.
Momentum remained with Cruz in the championship rounds, marking the first time in his career where he has been forced to enter round 12. It came with his finally establishing a jab, which helped set up right hands and left hooks upstairs. Romero’s offensive output miserably trailed off at the wrong time, settling for lateral movement and more holding in efforts to disrupt Cruz’s rhythm.
Cruz-Romero served as the chief support of a televised tripleheader. Headlining the show, David Benavidez (23-0, 20KOs) faces Ronald Ellis (18-1-2, 12KOs) in a scheduled 12-round super middleweight title eliminator.

Mexico (AP) — Dozens of transgender women and gay men in the caravan moving through Mexico with hopes of seeking asylum in the United States have banded together for protection — not from the uncertainty of a journey fraught with danger from the gangs who prey on migrants but from their fellow travelers
Fleeing violence and discrimination back home because of their gender identity or sexual orientation
these LGBTQ migrants have found the journey north to be just as threatening amid catcalls and even physical abuse
“Sweet little thing!” ”Baby
where you going?” ”How much do you charge?” These all-too-familiar jeers are spewed at them as they make their way with the caravan of several thousand
a 28-year-old who began transitioning to a woman in her native El Salvador
knows all too well the dangers her fellow transgender migrants faced back home: Her best friend
Then Loly herself began getting threats — “that if my breasts were going to grow
which only made her more fearful and finally drove her to flee
a lack of work and opportunities,” said Loly
who like many of the transgender women in the group preferred using only her first name
“In the caravan there is also violence — against the LGBTQ community.”
Loly linked up with the caravan in Tapachula
and hopes to work in the United States and save up to start a beauty products company — perhaps in Los Angeles or New York
It’s something she has planned for a long time
all the way down to the business’ logo
“I am going to a country where I know I will achieve my dreams,” Loly said
Reports are common in much of Central America of LGBTQ people being murdered
due to their gender identity or sexual orientation
asylum is difficult even with proof someone has been the victim of persecution for being transgender
director of litigation at the Transgender Law Center in Oakland
It often takes days or weeks for transgender immigrants to get a hearing before an asylum officer
If they are allowed to move forward in the process
many are traumatized and struggle to tell their story
They are also much less likely to be granted asylum without a lawyer
and not everybody makes it through,” she said
Many of the migrants have said they joined the caravan because it offered safety in numbers
The 50 or so LGBTQ migrants traveling together
most of them in their 20s but some as young as 17 or as old as 60
banded together for safety — a sort of caravan within the caravan
Sticking out in their bright-colored clothing and makeup
and has been the victim of robbery and other aggressions
One recent day as they walked in a row on the highway to Isla
in the Mexican Gulf coast state of Veracruz
a group of fellow migrants passed by on a flatbed truck and showered them with water
Fearful of being attacked more violently or sexually assaulted
they stick by each other’s sides 24 hours a day
walking and sleeping in a group and even using the buddy system for going to the bathroom
rather than sleep outdoors they took over an abandoned hotel damaged in last year’s deadly earthquake
windowless and with no electricity or running water
it was nonetheless a place to have a roof over their heads and be safe
They bathed by the light of a small lantern
dressed themselves and applied makeup as dozens of men milled about outside
Each night “the girls,” as they call themselves
sift through piles of donated clothing to try to look as sharp as possible
And they face a dilemma: Where to dress and relieve themselves
“We have problems when it comes time to go to the bathroom,” said Nakai Flotte
Flotte was accompanying the migrants to provide support and information about making asylum claims
“should take into account their condition of vulnerability and violence,” she said
a decision by then Attorney General Jeff Sessions this year to deny asylum to victims of domestic and gang violence could also have a negative impact on transgender women and men because many are victims of gang violence who are targeted for being transgender
“I know it will be difficult to win asylum,” said Alexa Amaya
“but we have to make the attempt.”
The caravan has traveled more than 1,000 miles (more than 2,000 kilometers) in the month since its initial participants set out from San Pedro Sula
and as it traverses Mexico’s central highlands it’s still about the same distance from its goal of Tijuana
A similar caravan earlier this year fizzled to just about 200 who reached the U.S
minibuses and tractor-trailers has been crucial lately
especially on days when they travel 100 miles or more
it’s been tougher to find those rides
“A taxi driver kicked us out of his car,” said Lady Perez
adding that sometimes truck drivers who often transport migrants for a small fee have doubled or tripled the price for her group
Lady began identifying as transgender at age 5
her boyfriend was killed and she was warned to leave Honduras or else
“In our country the rights of the LGBTQ community are not respected
and anti-social groups take advantage of that,” Lady said
Walking on the highway in a black miniskirt
she said many men in the caravan have been harassing her and the others
Supposedly you’re emigrating from your country because of the violence
and it turns out that in the very caravan you face this kind of violence,” she said
In the face of the near-constant harassment
march organizers and human rights workers have sought to provide the group some security in the form of two men in green vests who travel with them and try to ward off any attacks
If the verbal harassment doesn’t cross the line
“we feel protected,” Loly said
human rights is with us to protect us.”

President Donald Trump has continuously assailed a group of over 1,000 migrants traveling through Mexico in a days-long series of tweets this week
Trump has criticized Mexico for what he saw as its failure to stop migration
as well as bashed former President Barack Obama for what Trump viewed as his failings on immigration policy
an annual procession organized by the activist group Pueblo Sin Frontera
is meant to raise awareness about the conditions those migrants face in Mexico
where criminal groups and government officials both prey on vulnerable travelers
but the US president appeared to take some credit on Tuesday
which is over a thousand people coming in from Honduras
thought they were going to just walk right through Mexico and right through the border," Trump said at the White House
'I hope you're going to tell that caravan not to get up to the border,' and I think they're doing that."
you can some of the migrants who drew Trump's ire:
While in the past they had jammed onto trains to go north, the last scheduled stop this year was a migrants' rights symposium in Puebla state in central Mexico — though many seemed likely to continue heading north
either to Mexico City to claim asylum or on to the US

participants in this (caravan) are subject to an administrative migratory procedure
while 400 have already been repatriated to their countries of origin
in strict accordance with the law and respecting their human rights," the government said

Some analysts and observers say Mexico has been too aggressive in its efforts to halt migration
infringing on those migrants' human rights by denying asylum claims
and deporting them back to dangerous situations in their home countries

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni called up 44 players to the preliminary team for the March World Cup qualifiers and the reason behind it has been revealed
three of them are 18 year old players with four of them being 17 year old players
While there are some more popular players who have been linked with the national team such as Luka Romero of Lazio and MAtias Soule of Juventus
there is a reason why Scaloni has decided to call up that many youngster
Here is the full list of young players that have been included in the team:
Manchester United)Nicolás Paz (17 years old
Only Matias Soule had previously been called up to the Argentina national team
the AFA could have a few friendly matches for the Argentina U20 team during the international fixtures
This would give coach Javier Mascherano the chance to have those players with the team
This would also give the young players a chance to train with the senior Argentina national team
Argentina play Venezuela and Ecuador in the March World Cup qualifiers
Here is the full list of players that have been called up:
Goalkeepers:Franco Armani (River Plate)Juan Musso (Atalanta)Emiliano Martínez (Aston Villa)Esteban Andrada (Monterrey)Geronimo Rulli (Villarreal)
Defenders:Gonzalo Montiel (Sevilla)Nahuel Molina (Udinese)Juan Foyth (Villarreal)Lucas Martínez Quarta (Fiorentina)Germán Pezella (Real Betis)Nicolás Otamendi (Benfica)Cristian Romero (Tottenham Hotspur)Lisandro Martínez (Ajax)Nehuén Pérez (Udinese)Nicolás Tagliafico (Ajax)Marcos Acuña (Sevilla)
Forwards:Ángel Di María (Paris Saint-Germain)Luka Romero (Lazio)Matias Soulé (Juventus)Lionel Messi (Paris Saint-Germain)Paulo Dybala (Juventus)Lautaro Martínez (Inter)Ángel Correa (Atletico Madrid)Julián Álvarez (River Plate)Giovanni Simeone (Verona)Lucas Boyé (Elche)
these 2 remaining games might be the last time we’d see Messi playing in qualifier
You’ll never know his decision after Qatar
Luka hasnt been playing in Lazio other than early parts of the season
perhaps he’d get more minutes at Lazio if he makes good impression in qualifier
Is enzo Fernandez good enough for team like ream Madrid
I hope Mascherano will take the U20 seriously
this is our best chance to win it after so long
All the players called up today should all be eligible to play
I don’t remember that much long term strategic thinking on part of AFA
continuity across generations that flows out of the coaching staff (Scaloni
Samuel Aimar and now Kun) to newly appointed Mascherano and all the youngsters that are rumored to be called up
The Benitez and Senesi exclusions seem very controversial and here is my take
I think Benitez absolutely is at the level to play for us and based on footballing merit deserves to do so
but at the end of the day it does not concern or anger me as much as other people because we already have Martinez
and even Rulli who gets called up by Scaloni at intervals
At the end of the day neither Armani nor Andrada will play and Scaloni probably sees benefits in the locker room from having them as opposed to Benitez who made remarks that may not have sat well with him in the past
I think Scaloni doesn’t want to call up any new players before the world cup to keep things regular with the obvious exception of the youngsters who are just being called up to be scouted and get experience
Senesi is much more puzzling and concerning to me than Benitez (who’s exclusion may well make absolutely no difference this year) because center back is an area we have had problems with in the past
It is also odd that he calls up Nehuen Perez who is still very raw and if called upon to play will not be near as good as Senesi in the present
If he or others want to play elsewhere then goodbye
Who are this biggest local talents in this 2003+ category
Encinas from River a classic enganche and Infantino from U15 NT
Plus two strikers Castro from Velez and Hausch from San Lorenzo got a lot of hypes earlier
Ive heard about Rosario midfielders Buonanotte and Tanlongo too but dont know much about them
I saw a picture of him when he was young with a Argentinian shirt on which I know sounds silly as proof but I don’t think that the passion of having immediate Argentine roots is something that wears off easily
For example I was born in the US with one Argentine parent and would absolutely play for Argentina if I could
The talents you mentioned are most of the ones I know about
Barco seems incredible but gets way too much press and I think it could affect his development
Galarza is a 2002 talent but still absolutely deserves attention
I would take a serious look at Bruno Zapelli as well
Apparently there is a good young striker in Racing Gonzalo Sosa who may be 16/17 now
A player that hasn’t gotten mentioned on this site yet is a young player Santiago Lopez who almost a month ago got a professional contract with Independiente at the age of 16
I think he is a second striker or attacking midfielder
The real reason most of these guys were called up is because they can play for multiple countries and Argentina wants them to play for us
AFA is hoping that Practicing with Messi and co
Will insure that these youngsters will choose the albiceleste instead of Italy or spain….
Just watched some clips of alejandro garnacho.
I think he is Super talanted.super speedy, good dribbling skill, good hight..In future He is good option for left side attack even now!.Argentina should do everything to gets him
