Cautionary non-GAAP Measures and Additional GAAP Measures
The Company believes that investors use certain non-GAAP and additional GAAP measures as indicators to assess mining companies
They are intended to provide additional information and should not be considered in isolation or as a substitute for measures of performance prepared with GAAP
Non-GAAP and additional GAAP measures do not have a standardized meaning prescribed under IFRS and therefore may not be comparable to similar measures presented by other companies
Additional GAAP measures that are presented on the face of the Company's consolidated statements of comprehensive income include "Operating income (loss)"
These measures are intended to provide an indication of the Company's mine and operating performance
Per ounce measures are calculated by dividing the relevant mining and processing costs and total costs by the tonnes of ore processed in the period
"Adjusted cash costs per ounce" and "Adjusted all-in sustaining costs per ounce" are used in this analysis and are non-GAAP terms typically used by mining companies to assess the level of gross margin available to the Company by subtracting these costs from the unit price realized during the period
These non-GAAP terms are also used to assess the ability of a mining company to generate cash flow from operations
There may be some variation in the method of computation of these metrics as determined by the Company compared with other mining companies
"Adjusted cash costs per ounce" reflects the cash operating costs allocated from in-process and dore inventory associated with ounces of silver and gold sold in the period
"Adjusted cash costs per ounce" may vary from one period to another due to operating efficiencies
grade of material processed and silver/gold recovery rates in the period
"Adjusted all-in sustaining costs per ounce" include total cash costs
share based compensation and sustaining capital costs
For a reconciliation of non-GAAP and GAAP measures

all-ages Halloween celebration event called Halloween Fest enters its third year Saturday at Minot’s Municipal Auditorium
The event was previously known as Trick or Treat at MYT (Milton Young Towers) but has grown to include the broader Minot area and has moved locations due to the increase in community participation
“Last year we had 300 kids show up,” said Tracy Parral
we decided to move into the auditorium this year and go bigger than ever.”
Parral was inspired to create Halloween Fest as a fun
accessible event so families of all income levels and needs could participate in seasonal activities with their loved ones at no cost to themselves
“Everything’s so expensive,” Parral said
“I want everybody to be able to participate no matter what.”
Parral talked about how costs can be barriers for low-income families to enjoy seasonal activities together
“Parents sometimes can’t go because it costs $5 to get in
a lot of people can’t afford to do that,” she said
You’re spending $80 to go somewhere for 10 minutes
then they have to cut back on something else,” Parral said
Parral doesn’t want parents to have to stay home to save costs and miss out on having fun with their children
accommodating environment for children of all ages and needs
“Another new aspect of the event is that I’ve included an earlier time that is sensory and toddler friendly,” Parral said
“This year toddlers and anyone with disabilities or sensory needs can come from 9 a.m
During this earlier time there will be no loud music and there will be toddler friendly candy (or snack substitutions)
games and prizes as well as appropriate game prizes for older children and adults with disabilities
There will also be a crafts station and coloring station
“I have snacks available for the toddlers and I even have baby food and applesauce,” Parral said if parents are concerned about giving their toddlers candy
There are also non-edible options for prizes at the game stations
making the event accessible to different ages
different sensory and dietary needs is important and essential in making an inclusive community event
“My son has autism and my daughter has ADHD
We all have a cluster of disabilities in my own house,” Parral said
“I try to accommodate everything I can.”
All ages are welcome to attend the event from 1-5 p.m.
including toddlers if families would rather bring all of their children to the event at once or if they prefer the later time for any other reason
I want everyone to feel comfortable and have fun in a safe environment,” Parral said
In addition to the games and craft stations
Raffles have also been added to Halloween Fest this year and are completely free to enter
along with everything else included in the event
Parral is extremely thankful for the donations and support she’s received so far in organizing this event
“I definitely want to thank everybody who has helped so far,” she said
Parral is still looking for additional volunteers to help with games on the day of the event
Volunteers are needed to help run the games
or set up on Friday or breakdown on Saturday,” Parral said
Volunteers will be fed from 12:15-12:45 p.m
Those interested in volunteering can reach out to Parral
Nightmare on 38th Street is the free haunted trail Parral puts on from September through October
The trail is not open this weekend due to Halloween Fest but will be held the following weekends
People are welcome to come to the event and reach out to Parral about volunteering at that time
“They can just show up,” Parral said
“You’re more than welcome just to come in
and they’ll be able to find me.”
then the more games I can have and the more fun we can have,” Parral said
“So just anything anybody can do would be great.”
Event attendees should use door 1 of the Municipal Auditorium to enter the event on Saturday
Door 9 in the back of the auditorium can also be used for wheelchair access

On Revolution Day, 1976, then-president Luis Echevarría honored one of the revolution’s greatest heroes, Francisco “Pancho” Villa, bringing his remains from the Panteón de Dolores in Parral, Chihuahua to rest forever in the Monument to the Revolution in Mexico City
The theory espoused by some in Parral was that Villa’s last wife
had replaced the bones in his coffin with those of an unknown woman to thwart the repeated attempts of grave robbers
Villa’s real bones had been secretly relocated to another grave 100 meters or so distant
when it was stolen from his original grave
Nearly 50 years after Villa was laid to a hero’s rest in Mexico City
many in Mexico feel certain they know who has it
as is the person who ordered Villa’s assassination on July 20
including an elite university club whose members have included several U.S
then-president Álvaro Obregón and future president Elías Plutarco Calles
Obregón had good reason for wanting Villa dead
Aside from the fact that Villa was rumored to be considering a run for the presidency
thus breaking the non-political oath that had allowed him to retire in peace in 1920
After a contentious Convention at Aguascalientes in 1914
when the revolutionary factions debated what to do after Huerta’s defeat
Obregón and Venustiano Carranza had allied themselves against Villa for leadership of Mexico
Obregón defeated troops under Villa at the Battle of Celaya
Obregón lost his right arm — blown off during an artillery attack
It is conceivable then that Obregón would have wanted Villa’s skull
as a kind of payment for his own bodily loss
But he wasn’t the only one seeking a pound of flesh
Villa had many enemies in Mexico and plenty in the U.S
after a daring cross-border raid on Columbus
New Mexico in search of supplies for his army in 1916
Cavalry repelled the raiders but that wasn’t enough for President Woodrow Wilson
Pershing the command of over 6,000 soldiers for a punitive expedition to capture Villa and bring him to justice
even if it meant going into Mexico to get him
This expedition increased political tensions between the two countries
with Carranza’s troops eventually firing on the Americans
by which time Pershing had been reassigned as commander of the American Expeditionary Force for the First World War
Rumors of American bounties on Villa would continue even after his death. An unnamed U.S. organization was said to be offering $10,000 for Villa’s skull, twice what newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst was reportedly offering
was also rumored to be seeking the skull for the collection
Only two men ever spent time in jail for removing Villa’s skull: American mercenary Emil Holmdahl and his accomplice Alberto Corral
Three days after scaling the wall of the locked cemetery in Parral
A man named Ben Williams helped to bail him out and get him across the border
Williams was one of the investors who purchased the gigantic Palomas Ranch in Chihuahua
he wanted to send Holmdahl back to jail in Mexico
Skull and Bones
has in its historical membership some of the most powerful men in the United States
including not just scions of the Rockefeller and Vanderbilt families
but three former presidents: William Howard Taft
So it’s still unknown to any degree of certainty
What is certain is that if Skull and Bones does have Villa’s skull

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Two people are dead after an overnight shootout at a restaurant in Martinsville.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office says deputies got a call Friday around 11:05 p.m. that several people had been shot at El Parral Mexican Restaurant located at 670 Commonwealth Boulevard in Martinsville.
Deputies responded to the scene and found one person suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and legs. He was identified as Orlando Johnson, 31, of Martinsville. Johnson later died from his wounds.
Investigators say it all started when an argument broke out on a sidewalk at the restaurant. The argument then escalated and deputies say Johnson and another man, Laquon Moss, pulled out handguns and started shooting.
Deputies say Moss shot Johnson multiple times, and in the process, he also shot a 25-year-old woman in the leg and a 32-year-old man in the arm. Both of those victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigative findings show that a bullet from Johnson’s gun hit another Martinsville man, 25-year-old Malik Douglas, killing him.
Moss, 26, of Ridgeway has been charged with first-degree murder, two counts of malicious wounding, three counts of the use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He’s being held at the Henry County Jail without bond.
On Saturday afternoon, the El Parral Mexican Restaurant released the following statement concerning the incident:
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463). The Crimestoppers Program offers rewards up to $2500.00 for information related to crime.

“I’m not gonna shoot anybody else,” Lyons said
when asked where the gun was at that point
Lyons pleads several times for help to arrive quickly
stating “I can’t believe I shot him.” The 911 dispatcher assures him that an ambulance crew is on its way
Lyons made his initial appearance today in New Philadelphia Municipal Court via video link from the jail
Bail was set at $250,000 and a preliminary hearing was set for Monday
Tuscarawas County Prosecutor Ryan Styer said
and although he has asserted that he did so in self-defense
we’re not ready to take him at his word without looking at a lot more information
such as the blood alcohol levels of both individuals and the autopsy findings.”
An autopsy is to be performed Thursday by the Stark County Coroner’s Office
Detective Moore said that Lyons called 911 at 11:08 p.m
Lyons told deputies that Lax had come over to pay his apartment rent and they both began drinking liquor
“Statements indicate that the two men have know each other for years,” Campbell said
adding that Lax has rented from Lyons for about seven years
but their routine consumption of alcohol together definitely played a part in the escalation of the situation.”
which has been converted to an apartment as part of a former roadside motel
Lyons reached for his .357 revolver that was hanging on a wall-mounted gun rack
and grabbed the barrel of the gun,” Campbell said Lyons told him
Lyons “admitted he fired one shot,” Campbell said
adding that Lyons “has been cooperating so far.” The chief deputy is awaiting autopsy results for confirmation that only one shot was fired
Campbell and Moore obtained a search warrant and collected evidence at the scene
The gun and a small amount of marijuana were confiscated
Lyons told Campbell that about a week earlier
he had fired a warning shot through the wall of his home to get Lax to leave during a disagreement
Authorities were never called regarding that incident
“Statements and evidence collected suggest that a shot was fired through a wall at the residence approximately a week ago,” Campbell said
All of that information is being forwarded to the prosecutor for presentation to the grand jury for consideration.”

Three northern Tuscarawas County communities — Columbia
Louden and Parral — owe their existence to the manufacture of bricks
Most residents of the towns worked at either the Crown Fire Brick Co
"All of these plants are in the northwestern section of what is termed the Strasburg field
and the development of the fire-brick business in that section has been greater than at the Mineral Point end of the field
because the flint-clay beds are said to be heavier and workable to better advantage there," said the 1909 History of the Clay-Working Industry in the United States
Thomas Kemp built the plant three miles north of Dover for the Wentz-Wagner Co
Wentz-Wagner sold the 80-acre facility to the Crown Fire Clay Co
the plant was in turn sold to the Robinson Clay Products Co
Working at the plant could sometimes be dangerous — for both humans and animals
"George Peters had a very narrow escape at the Crown works last Tuesday," the Louden correspondent for the Strasburg Record reported on Jan
"While oiling some machinery his clothing caught on a pulley and he was hurled for some distance and very painfully cut and bruised about his body
"The Crown yard engine struck a valuable mule belonging to contractor Frank Benson Monday afternoon
injuring it so badly that it had to be killed
Benson had only recently purchased the animal for use in transferring the small cars from the mines to the works and the loss is no small one for him."
about 100 employees of the Crown plant went on strike
demanding a pay increase of 1.5 cents per hour
"Wages paid at the plant have not been high as that paid at the steel mills because less skill is required
it is claimed," the Dover Daily Reporter said
"The men say the pay is not sufficient considering the high cost of living and insist they will not return to work unless their demands are granted."
Local newspapers did not report on the outcome of the strike
The World War I era proved to be a profitable one for the local brick industry
work began on a hotel and boarding house in Parral
Shively announced plans to build a garage and auto repair shop at the corner of Wooster Street and Shively Boulevard
"The doubling of capacity of the brick and sewer pipe shops of the Crown plant of the Robinson Clay Products Company
has precipitated a building boom," the Dover Daily Reporter said
"The latest home to be erected is that of Philip Stine
the foundation of which is nearly completed
The residence will be finished by the first of June."
Residents in the area enjoyed the same activities as other people of the time
a group of about 50 young people from Louden and Strasburg went skating on Sugar Creek near Baertown
"Bert Shonk was demonstrating some fancy skating
and ventured where the ice was too thin and as a result he got a cold bath," the Louden correspondent for the Strasburg Record wrote
"Bert was panic stricken when he broke through and if it had not been for the coolness and presence of mind of Philip Garver
the site of the Crown plant continues to be a manufacturing plant
Robinson Clay sold the plant to Clow Corp.
which in turn sold it to Zedmark (now Minteq International)

DOVER ‒ A Cleveland commercial real estate agent says that a proposed commercial and industrial development on the north end of Dover is already getting interest from retailers and manufacturers
We have interest in the big box retail sector
which is a quick service restaurant component," Rico Pietro of Cushman & Wakefield | CRESCO Real Estate told members of Dover City Council this week
"We have interest by two manufacturers that are based upon Team NEO JobsOhio leads that are regional leads that are looking for manufacturing sites with proximity to rail and close proximity to highway interstates."
Economic development news:'Prize development.' Major retail, light industrial project coming to Tuscarawas County
he will have tangible projects to bring before council
Realtor Jeff Mathias, Lauren International CEO Kevin Gray and Mike Davis
have purchased a 67-acre property known as the Streb farm along North Wooster Avenue to develop it
Fifty-three acres are in the city of Dover
and 12.8 acres are in the village of Parral
It has 1,900 feet of frontage on Wooster Avenue
The back portion is bordered by the rail line of the R.J
updated council members on the project Monday and provided them with an economic impact analysis of the project
the city could expect to see around $174,000 in recurring tax revenue; Dover City Schools
The project is expected to create 247 permanent jobs and 262 construction jobs
The developers will be targeting fast-food restaurants
office buildings and boutique-style grocery stores to move into the space along Wooster Avenue and light industry for the back portion of the tract
Pietro said creating jobs is important to the developers
"This development is not just about making the last dollar," he said
"It's really about bringing sustainable employment to the community and building a first-class product that you would see in areas with maybe a little bit more velocity in the commercial development arena
So we're excited about doing something pretty special here."
He said the project will be a holistic development
where all of the components will complement each other
"I think companies that are hiring the large bulk of people want places where someone can go and get a 30-minute lunch versus a 90-minute lunch so they can get back to work quickly," he said
Pietro also answered questions from council members
Councilwoman Gina Space said people are excited about the development
Have you been a neighbor to residential areas before?" she asked
"I think they're worried that they're going to look out their windows and just see fast-food restaurants
Pietro said there are ways to address those concerns
The developers could do a lighting study so that lights don't bleed onto residential properties across Wooster Avenue
there can be reasonable setbacks for the buildings
and it can be made walkable so Parral residents could cross the street to shop
"I think the key component here is to have something that's a win-win for both parties," he said
"I think there's always the adage of not my back yard
you're going to eliminate the things like that."
Interim Mayor Shane Gunnoe noted that he has been in contact with Parral Mayor Crystal DiGenova about the project and he attended a Nov
14 Parral council meeting to answer any questions council members may have had
"We're trying to make this a plus for both Dover and Parral," Gunnoe said
Councilwoman Sandy Moss asked if there would be sidewalks along Wooster Avenue
because there are senior housing developments in the area
There are no plans now to install sidewalks
but he said it was reasonable to request a sidewalk

formerly the El Parral Ballroom and The 1910

The International Word Fellowship Church is creating a new Christian event center in Austin
Pastors Raymond Tuck and Rory Synoground have successfully purchased the El Parral Ballroom at 210 Fourth St
NE and are looking to transform the former Mexican-themed property into a Christian entertainment and event center
“There’s a niche that needs to be here in this area
and that’s positive Christian entertainment that the whole family can enjoy,” Synoground said
The church began negotiating to buy El Parral last March after Synoground and Tuck were moved by the property’s history
the site was home to a large tabernacle constructed by Pastor Billy Sunday
who held large revivals there for up to 3,500 people
It’s that spirit of Christian revival which is driving the pastors to offer a Christian center
which will have a faith-based coffee house
and a radio station broadcasting live Christian events as they’re booked
“We just want to make a positive impact on the city,” Tuck said
The main ballroom area of what was the El Parral Ballroom is now the main worship center for the International Fellowship Word Church
While the coffee shop will likely start up at the end of the month where the 1910 Restaurant used to be
which they are already renting out for events
The church has launched a GoFundMe online campaign to raise $70,000 to renovate the space for its congregation
from putting down carpeting inside the center to renovating the 1910’s space into a non-alcoholic cafe setting featuring Christian entertainment
the pastors hope to renovate the property further
including putting in a park next to the center
Synoground and Tuck hope the community will embrace the smaller church’s goals to provide a Christian environment for the area
is to just be a blessing and be a positive influence on the Austin community,” Synoground said

A summary of the Mineral Resource Estimate is provided in Table 3
Table 3: Los Ricos South Mineral Resource Estimate – Pit Constrained and Out-of-Pit(1-9)
Mineral Resources which are not Mineral Reserves do not have demonstrated economic viability
The estimate of Mineral Resources may be materially affected by environmental
The Inferred Mineral Resource in this estimate has a lower level of confidence than that applied to an Indicated Mineral Resource and must not be converted to a Mineral Reserve
It is reasonably expected that the majority of the Inferred Mineral Resource could be upgraded to an Indicated Mineral Resource with continued exploration
The Mineral Resources in this news release were estimated in accordance with the Canadian Institute of Mining
CIM Standards on Mineral Resources and Reserves
Definitions and Guidelines prepared by the CIM Standing Committee on Reserve Definitions and adopted by the CIM Council
Historically mined areas were depleted from the Mineral Resource model
The pit constrained AgEq cut-off grade of 38 g/t Ag was derived from US$1,800/oz Au price
The constraining pit optimization parameters were $2.10/t mineralized material and waste mining cost
Cerro Colorado Resource constrained to open pit mining methods only; out-of-pit Mineral Resources are restricted to the Eagle and Abra mineralized veins
which exhibit historical continuity and reasonable potential for extraction by cut and fill and longhole mining methods
The out-of-pit AgEq cut-off grade of 130 g/t Ag was derived from US$1,800/oz Au price
The out-of-pit Mineral Resource grade blocks were quantified above the 130 g/t AgEq cut-off
below the constraining pit shell and within the constraining mineralized wireframes
Out–of-Pit Mineral Resources are restricted to the Los Ricos and Rascadero Veins
AgEq and AuEq were calculated at an Ag/Au ratio of 78.2:1 for pit constrained and out-of-pit Resources
the Company completed an updated PEA at Los Ricos North
the Company will assess all technical and debt financing proposals that may allow the continued advancement of the project towards a construction decision
even during a potential construction phase of Los Ricos South should a construction decision be made on that project

two important things happened in a beautiful and little-known corner of northern Mexico – the 100th anniversary of Pancho Villa’s death and the naming of Parral
the two will eventually lead to more interest in Villa’s “home range,” the rural lands between the cities of Durango and Chihuahua
The journey offers both stretches of unspoiled natural beauty
and a testament to some of Mexico’s most colorful and chaotic history
No other region in Mexico identifies more strongly with Villa than here
José Doroteo Arango Arámbula was his real name but the world knows him better as Francisco
He was a complicated figure in a complicated time – part of a decade-long struggle for power among various factions that would define modern Mexico
Villa and his División del Norte army would swiftly push south as far as Mexico City
but would also then be swiftly pushed back to Durango
Here Villa could not be beaten – a lifetime of being on the run from the law and his enemies meant he not only knew the area like the back of his hand
the logical place to start is the city of Durango
Major highways take you there from Mazatlán and even Mexico City
and it has much to offer visitors including Baroque architecture
with a 10-hall museum opened in 2013 in the downtown Zambrano Palace
which gives a good introduction to his life and times before you begin trekking north
Only a couple hours away from Durango is San Juan del Río
you will notice how much unspoiled nature there is just driving on Highway 45
San Juan itself is still a typical rural mining and agricultural municipality
although the town has several points-of-interest
including its 16th/17th century church and La Coyotada
the next stop is just before the Durango/Chihuahua state line
The main attraction here is the former Canutillo Hacienda
the 87,000 hectare estate enticed Villa to sign the Sabinas Accords with then-President Adolfo de la Huerta to lay down his arms and become a civilian
Back among the mountains and forests that served to protect him so well for decades
Villa and his allies spent three years growing crops and providing locals with work and education
its contents ransacked and its lands eventually redistributed
the federal government converted the main house into a regional museum
The building proper is in good condition and the guide very knowledgeable about Villa
but Canutillo needs much work before it really can be called a “regional museum.” Villa is important
but there is so much more to northern Durango
So far, the state has done little to promote tourism here, prompting organizations such as Sombreros Unidos de Ocampo to take on the monumental task of developing infrastructure to let people know about the area’s impressive natural beauty
please contact the Sombreros beforehand as they are your best bet for lodging and guides
Villa’s banking needs took him regularly to Parral
killing him and the other occupants instantly
Perhaps Villa was a little too optimistic that someone of his caliber could just “retire.”
Parral is in the valley north of the El Toche mountains
Although the town has an important history of mining and Indigenous multiculturalism
its Pueblo Mágico status is directly related to Villa
but local Elisa Griersen faced down the U.S
when they passed through looking to capture Villa
To get a taste of just how important Villa is to the town’s identity
visit during the Jornadas Villistas (Villa Days) in July
which feature a horseback parade with participants in period attire and a reenactment of Villa’s death
This is not Chihuahua’s only association with Villa
the general served as the state’s governor for short periods in 1913 and 1914
renaming it Quinta Luz in honor of his wife
She would remain in this house the rest of her life
playing a pivotal role in preserving Villa’s legacy
she established a museum to him and his army
she negotiated a deal with the Defense Ministry to take over the building and completely remodel it
Today it is the Historic Museum of the Revolution
managed by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH)
The museum’s collection is extensive and even includes the car Villa was assassinated in
Villa and his home range are particularly important now that history is reassessing his role in the “pantheon” of figures of the Mexican Revolution
he was vilified as a violent bandit by both the U.S
in part because he attacked the border looking to draw Mexico’s northern neighbor more directly into the internal conflict
the general’s remains were moved to a place of honor at the Monument to the Revolution in Mexico City
The 100th anniversary has offered new opportunities with President López Obrador paying homage in Villa’s birthplace and Star Plus putting out a series about his life and times
It may be about time that a man seen as little more than a bandit in the U.S
– and his homeland – got their due

The Rough Riders had just beaten their crosstown rival Garfield for the first time in a decade, and around Parral, the jubilant relief of breaking the streak erupted in chaos. Players sprinted in tearful loops across the field at East Los Angeles College. Hundreds of fans spilled over from the stands.
With the 22-19 win, Roosevelt moved ahead of Garfield in the seeding for the City Section Open Division. The Rough Riders (7-3) will take on San Pedro (8-1) in the quarterfinals Nov. 12, while the Bulldogs (8-2) will face Wilmington Banning (7-1).
Parral’s mind cleared for a moment as a Rough Rider bumped the coach’s head while dousing him with a Gatorade shower. The late Richard “Dicky” Guillen, a former Roosevelt assistant coach and pillar of the program, wasn’t there to give him a hug. But the Rough Riders won this game for Dicky.
“The first person I thought about was Dicky,” Parral said. “I’d like to think that he was still there.”

Roosevelt snapped its 10-game losing streak against longtime rival Garfield in a 22-19 victory in the East L.A
“I miss [Dicky] so much,” said Julian Quezada
Before kickoff, thousands in the stands, loudly jeering each other just moments before, were silent for 40 seconds to honor four longtime members of the East L.A. football community, all of whom died since the last Classic was held in 2019. Chavez and Padilla coached at both Roosevelt and Garfield; Vargas was a hard-nosed fullback who ran for the Bulldogs from 2008 to 2011 and wore No. 40, inspiring the seconds of silence.
Coach Lorenzo Hernandez read Vargas’ eulogy at his funeral.
“Once you start seeing what took place during this terrible pandemic and the loss of life, it became pretty clear to me that everything was a little more important than football,” Hernandez said.

gave the crowd a speech to pump it up before kickoff
In the stands were thousands of residents who’d survived a period of feeling trapped
and Boyle Heights consist of households with multigenerational families packed together
with some residents being forced to expose themselves to unsafe working conditions
they were at the verge of being evicted,” de Leon said
“It goes beyond football and this rivalry.”

Parral would run with the opportunity to talk some smack
But a few minutes after he stepped to the microphone
a man known for his playful machismo broke down in tears
“I wore this shirt today because he gave it to me — I was just talking to him this morning,” Parral said

this year has been the easiest because he hasn’t had to do much
The motivation was there — players wanted to win for Guillen
“You don’t want to let him down,” Parral said
Classic became a capstone — particularly given Roosevelt’s long history as the underdog of the rivalry
“We really want this win,” team captain James Cortez said before the game

Morningside coach Brian Collins shares his thoughts after his football team lost 106-0 to Inglewood on Friday night.
As the second half dragged on, though, the pendulum swung completely. Hernandez and the Bulldogs swallowed up Roosevelt’s run game, while receiver Jayden Barnes hauled in a couple of touchdowns to cut the lead to three points.
With just three minutes left in the game, Garfield had the ball at midfield and a golden opportunity to take the lead — but on third down, senior Rough Riders defensive back Carlos Velasquez dove for a crucial interception on the sideline as the Roosevelt crowd exploded.
“When I caught that, I already prophesized it at practice on Thursday,” Velasquez said. “I just said to my friends, what I want to do is just grab a pick and call the game.”
Garfield had a last-second chance to tie with a field goal but missed it as the clock expired. All hell broke loose. Security pleaded with students rushing the field to return to the stands, but to no avail.
Parral watched as Roosevelt alumni from 20 years earlier joined the fray. It was a catharsis after a decade as underdogs on the field and two years of pain off it.
Sports
There are 14 Roosevelt Rough Rider teams in America, including one in Los Angeles, and they all had to deal with playing, or not playing, during a pandemic.

The new ballroom at the El Parral is one of four rooms that can accommodate large groups for graduations
a few dedicated people have been transforming an old building into what is now the El Parral ballroom
bought the building in March 2010 with longtime plans to offer something fun for the community
the building was vacant but needed many repairs
Holes and watermarks peppered the ceilings
are in the process of perfecting the multipurpose facility that is now the El Parral ballroom
but they want to offer more than a typical ballroom
Serrano wants a wide variety of activities —more than just dancing
his friends and carpenters have begun the huge task of customizing every large room
and behind it lies a fully furnished bar with another stage
will eventually serve as an indoor soccer room
Serrano considered several other locations for ballrooms in the past; it’s something he’s wanted to open for a long time
Then he considered the restaurant supply store in Austin
he was excited because his home is in Austin
The two met while working at Quality Pork Producers in 1998
sprinklers and equipment are just a few of the changes
But Serrano said he still has a long way to go
and he never imagined he would spend this much and take it this far
“You don’t have any idea what this place looked like,” Garate said
then it was very basic — a large open space without much else
Although the project has gone farther than anyone thought
Garate said it’s too late for Serrano to turn back now
“He’s not a quitter; he’s a fighter,” Garate said
Serrano and his wife hope that everyone around Austin will use the facility and bring the community closer together
but Serrano and Garate have been working on planning their own events to get people in the doors
groups have booked rooms for dances and graduations
Serrano and Garate plan on holding weddings
Some upcoming events include a Valentine’s Day dance and Austin Medical Center convention
El Parral has already been hosting a band every weekend
it will have its kitchen and offices in place as well
and visitors can expect it to be back to it’s old Terp form or better
“It’s been empty for too many years,” Garate said
and Israel Gonzalez are transforming the El Parral into The 1910
The brothers-in-law and managers opened last week and have big ideas for the bar and restaurant in Austin
Matt Peterson/matt.peterson@austindailyherald.com
Rustic pictures of the Mexican Revolution decorate the walls
and more than a dozen varieties of tequila sit behind the bar inside the old
“We’re trying to incorporate as much of that look and feel as we can into the ambiance here,” said Israel Gonzalez
manager of the newest Mexican bar and restaurant in town
The atmosphere has changed inside what used to be the El Parral on Fourth Street Northeast
as new booths line the walls in both the restaurant and bar — highlighted by fresh coats of paint and new woodgrain
Perhaps the biggest change, though, is the business plan. But Gonzalez and his brother-in-law partner, Gonzalo Cibils, aren’t afraid to go out on a limb.
The partners have created a restaurant unique to Austin
not just another Mexican restaurant with tacos and pre-mix margaritas
The partners had to close their eyes and take a trip back in time — back to Mexico
“We wanted to deviate a little from the cliche Mexican restaurant,” Gonzalez said
who mentioned the name of the new business stems from the outbreak of the Mexican Revolution
Gonzalez and Cibils covered the walls with black-and-white images of soldiers riding horses
the business partners were inspired from traditional elements of Guadalajara
but seafood is our main focus right now,” Gonzalez said
the business partners sought a gourmet Mexican chef who could go beyond the realm of tacos
Gonzalez said Olivares was working in construction because he no longer wanted to cook if he couldn’t use his talents
as his new chef has operated restaurants in Mexico and brings vast experience and cuisine options to the table
Gonzalez and Cibils are relatively young business owners
They realize not everybody will appreciate their new business model
but we know for sure there are some people
The brothers-in-law know this from their own experiences
Gonzalez was co-owner of a bar and restaurant in Miami before returning to Austin
He previously managed El Parral until owner Custodio Serrano wanted out of that business
Gonzalez was ready to shift the focus and manage his own idea
Because he also wanted the bar to be unique
“I actually went to bartending school in San Francisco: San Francisco School of Bartending.”
including a French bar in San Francisco and a Latin bar in Los Angeles
Now he brings his ideas and heritage to Austin
Cibils wanted to focus on Mexican drinks with fresh ingredients
he got rid of the pre-mix bottles and store-bought infusions
He brought in craft-style beers and an array of tequilas
He is focusing on not only drinks derived from fresh fruits
The managers haven’t forgotten about the ballroom aspect
Cibils was excited to find out Johnny Cash played at the ballroom when it was the Terp in 1957
He and Gonzalez want to cater to all demographics in Austin
people were already playing soccer in there
Thus far people have been visiting the business after Bruins games on weekends and slowly finding out about the buzz
Cibils and Gonzalez have a lot of work to finish
but the business is already open Wednesdays through Sundays
“It has been an opportunity to show and invite people to something that is not that common,” Gonzalez said
The 1910 is decorated throughout with pictures of the Mexican Revolution

When a restaurant owner fails to provide adequate security and someone is injured on their property
the victim could have sufficient grounds to sue the property owner."
