A clandestine grave containing at least 29 bodies was found in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga
in an area where over 80 illegally buried cadavers have been found since November
for whom investigations have been opened in the Attorney General’s specialized missing persons department,” the Jalisco Attorney General’s Ofice said in a statement on Monday
Search efforts are still underway at the site located just 80 meters from another clandestine grave from which investigators pulled 50 bodies in December
Another hidden grave in Tlajomulco found in November contained 31 bodies
Tlajomulco is among many municipalities in the region in which such discoveries were made last year
A National Guard operation on November 8 rescued eight kidnapping victims from a warehouse in the neighboring town of Tlaquepaque
National Guard soldiers also confiscated weapons and made 15 arrests
In September, 138 plastic bags of human remains were found in Zapopan, just west of Guadalajara, and 17 were found in nearby Tala. Another 15 bags were found in Zapopan in October
30 bodies were found buried at a house on May 7 of last year
Authorities say that the violence in Jalisco has intensified since March 2017 after interior conflicts caused a rift in the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG)
which also has outside rivalries with criminal organizations in neighboring Guanajuato for the control of illegal fuel trafficking
Government statistics show that 873 clandestine graves were uncovered in Mexico in 2019 alone
The highest number of graves were located in Sinaloa, home of infamous drug kingpin Joaguín “El Chapo” Guzmán, who was convicted of drug trafficking by a U.S
Jalisco and Colima followed Sinaloa on the list of states where the most clandestine graves werediscovered in 2019
Over 3,000 graves have been discovered since 2006
when the government declared war on drug traffickers
and almost 5,000 bodies have been found in them
The number of disappeared persons has markedly increased since 2006
According to the latest report from the National Search Commission
there are now over 61,000 people on the National Registry of Missing and Disappeared Persons

Jul 12 (EFE).- A bomb attack on law enforcement officers in the western Mexican state of Jalisco resulted in six fatalities
The assault left “a toll of six dead and 12 wounded
including state police and elements of the municipal police in Tlajomulco de Zuñiga,” Jalisco Gov
Authorities have organized a search for the attackers
Investigators working for the state Attorney General’s Office and local police traveling in a pick-up truck ventured down a dirt road after an anonymous telephone call about a clandestine grave
The call was received by a “searcher mother,” as women who have organized to look for missing loved ones are known
The attackers use eight improvised explosive devices (IEDs)
“It is a deed that we have not seen before here,” Alfaro said
Blaming the “brutal act of terror” on an unnamed criminal organization
The state has suffered from the violence of various criminal outfits such as the Jalisco New Generation Cartel
Figures released Tuesday by Mexico’s federal public safety department showing that six of the country’s 32 states – Guanajuato
and Michoacan – accounted for 7,226 homicides in the first six months of this year
Chinese truck manufacturer Foton has announced it will invest US $100 million to build a new assembly plant in the municipality of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga
part of the greater metropolitan area of Guadalajara
headquartered in Beijing with assets exceeding 50 billion Yuan (US $6.9 billion) and 300,000 employees
This will be Foton’s second facility in the state of Jalisco
demonstrating its satisfaction with the state’s business environment and its production facilities
the company that manages Foton distribution in Mexico
says the first vehicles will roll off the assembly line in January 2025
Foton has 24 distributors across Mexico and anticipates adding 15 more by the end of the year
the plant will employ a workforce of 115 people and will produce 1,000 pick-up models per month
Some of the pick-ups will feature gasoline motors
some will be built with diesel engines and others will be hybrid vehicles
the production will target the Mexican and South American markets
but long-term plans include producing electric vehicles for the North American market
told reporters that Foton selected Jalisco due to the state’s sturdy automotive ecosystem
its highly capable labor force and its geographical location with respect to the bigger domestic markets
“Jalisco has ideal labor force conditions and reliable security in comparison to other states,” Rodríguez said
the proximity to the ports of Manzanillo (Colima) and Lázaro Cárdenas (Michoacán) will facilitate the importation of parts from China.”
said the new investment results from the ministry’s outreach and promotional efforts
“I believe the new plant will produce a new wave of investment in our state
especially as suppliers will want to be closer to the production facilities here.”
BYD, a large Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, is said to be deciding between Jalisco and neighboring Michoacán for its first plant in Mexico.
Arechederra told reporters the Foton investment further puts to rest the notion that Tesla’s recent decision to pause plans to build a new plant in Mexico would damage Mexico’s automotive sector
“We continue to receive investment proposals and several companies have assured us their suppliers are making plans to move to the state,” he said
“Some companies already established here have even told us they plan to increase their investments in the coming years.”

In the town of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga in Jalisco
there’s a man who reads to the children whose parents can’t afford to send them to school
He takes on 50 pupils a semester – turning away hundreds more – because many families can’t pay for the supplies
food and even toilet paper that the schools require
Idalee Nunez plans to teach elementary school in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga after completing her degree in early childhood education at Metropolitan State University of Denver
Every visit she wondered: Why are there so many children selling candy and goods on the streets when they should be in school
“I want to be a teacher there because they really need it,” Nunez said
“They want to learn and don’t have that opportunity.”
Sisters Aiyanna and Tiyanna Dennis are students at East High School and Upward Bound participants
so having a place at MSU Denver to do homework during the school year is extremely helpful
Both students have also been aided by paid internships Upward Bound provides
worked at the SpringHill Suites on MSU Denver’s campus while Tiyanna
interned in Su Teatro Cultural and Performing Arts Center
Upward Bound also helped the sisters maintain their respective academic momentum during summer break

Upward Bound students take field trips to mountain towns and cultural performances
“(Upward Bound) really helped me throughout school
so it keeps me accountable and it’s a great place to meet other people.”
She wants to study political science or law in college and credits Upward Bound for introducing her to a mentor with the same interests
“It was nice to have someone who’s been through college teaching me about all the opportunities that would fit my personality,” she said
Nunez didn’t always have a passion for education – her own or providing one to others
Her perspective changed after a friend helped her sign up for TRIO High School Upward Bound
a federally funded college preparatory program focused on helping low-income and first-generation high school students develop the skills and motivation necessary to graduate and pursue postsecondary education
The friend introduced Nunez to Upward Bound after helping her with her homework
so she filled out the application for me.”
That friend’s assistance turned out to be a critical moment for Nunez’s future
Upward Bound is run out of MSU Denver’s Center for Urban Education and open to high school students from five Denver Public Schools: East
Student participants receive supplemental classroom instruction
homework assistance and career counseling and they can take campus internships with a monthly stipend
They’re also provided transportation to and from campus and Tivoli Student Union food court vouchers
Upward Bound assists participants in completing college applications and financial aid forms
such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
fill out FAFSA forms and get a partial scholarship – I’m still using the money (Upward Bound) helped me get back in 2015.”
Nunez believes so much in the program that she was an Upward Bound mentor at MSU Denver for three years
helping high school students follow her footsteps to graduate high school and pursue postsecondary education
Today, Nunez is preparing to earn her degree from MSU Denver and driven to educate others. She began her college career studying forensic science and even made the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll as a track and cross country runner before realizing the call to teach
She’s doing field work at STEM Launch
a K-8 school in Adams 12 Five Star School District
and will complete a teacher residency and pursue a license to teach first grade in Mexico after that
Her parents only received a sixth grade education
but they prioritized education for their children
‘We want you to do something better,’” she said
She plans to – and she recently helped her younger brother fill out an Upward Bound application

A municipality in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara has signed an agreement with the federal government to salvage 68,000 abandoned homes
reached the deal with the National Workers Housing Fund (Infonavit) and the Secretariat of Urban Development and Urban Planning
Authorities plan to sell the finished homes either to individual buyers or in bulk to companies that would then seek buyers for the properties
Mayor Salvador Zamora told the newspaper Milenio that if all 68,000 homes are occupied
100 million pesos (US$5.3 million) in property taxes will flow into the municipal coffers each year
The money would help pay for basic services that the city government provides to residential estates that lack water and other essentials
The first stage of the rehabilitation project will focus on the incomplete Lomas del Mirador housing estate
which was abandoned more than a decade ago
Milenio reported that authorities in Tlajomulco are also seeking an agreement with Infonavit in order to secure a loan to purchase 1,000 of the rehabilitated homes to be used as public housing
The municipality has received 500 requests for such housing in recent months but the applicants remain on a waiting list because there are no properties available

10 of the 17 municipalities saw an increase of between 1% and 22%
