West Palm Beach police said he died from his injuries about an hour after he was found.  Limited information has been released by authorities in the 2019 shooting The indictments released this week shed little light into the killings either solely naming Davis and Ortiz in Breton's death Breton's mother, Naomie, spoke with The Palm Beach Post soon after his death saying her son was the man of the house; cooking meals doing laundry and making sure his family was taken care of He graduated from Boynton Beach High School in 2016 and worked various retail jobs over the years She told the Post the last few text messages she shared with her son in the hours before his death were an exchange of "I love you" messages.  Breton was one of 94 killed in 2019 in Palm Beach County He was one of 17 killed in West Palm Beach that same year The state attorney's office filed documents in both cases saying prosecutors will not seek the death penalty If both men are found guilty by a jury of first-degree murder they face a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.   "We go back almost 30 years," Wolf says, "so we’ve really developed together." The story begins in the mid-1980s, when the Schurs traded a traditional house in Great Neck, New York, for an apartment in a modernist tower at Manhattan’s United Nations Plaza. Eager to embrace their city life, they hired Wolf and his then-partner Bob Patino to outfit their perch. "Vicente was this vital, adorable, young man who took me all over New York," Edie recalls. From their first collaboration she was sold on his design sensibility. "I love the mixture he creates," she says. "It’s contemporary, but with the kinds of softness and comfort I like." Wolf handled the Schurs’ subsequent homes, including an apartment on Manhattan’s Sutton Place and, more recently, a spacious house in Palm Beach. When the Schurs decided to downsize to their current space, they again called on the man who had won them over all those years ago. One reason for the continuing success of their relationship is that Edie is a die-hard fan of clean, neutral interiors—a signature style for Wolf. "I prefer white walls and white furniture," she says. "They should be the background for the flowers and the art and the people. The paintings are what should stand out." In the den, for example, a white wool carpet, woven in concentric squares, plays off the similarly hued honed-marble floor. Around the dining room table, the cream modern banquette contrasts with the antique chairs upholstered in snowy leather, while a bright-white Louise Nevelson wall relief and a spiky Sputnik chandelier serve as focal points. (Wolf had to persuade the Schurs to go for the latter piece, but Edie concedes that, as usual, he was right.) Here and there, tans and taupes add even more depth to the composition, as do spots and splashes of darker neutrals—like a suite of Mies Brno chairs clad in brown cordovan or black-shaded lamps by Serge Mouille. One key item that has traveled with the couple through the years is an antique walnut secretary, a study in classical lines and intricate ivory inlay. A Round Lake Beach man who pleaded guilty earlier this year to being so drunk that he blacked out prior to killing a Lake Geneva man with his Ford Explorer will spend 18 years in prison said he deeply regretted being intoxicated when he pulled his SUV into traffic on July 24 and struck 55-year-old Gregory Homola while he rode a motorcycle Lake County prosecutors painted Torres-Vasquez as a habitual felon who became so dizzy after drinking more than 15 beers and a bottle of tequila in the front seat of his vehicle that he decided he had to drive home “The term that he was literally blind drunk never applied more than it does in this case,” Lake County Assistant States Attorney Pat Fix said during Tuesday’s sentencing hearing his first thought at the scene was not of helping anyone .. the first words out of his mouth when a police officer arrived was formerly of the 1300 block of Belvidere Road pleaded guilty to a single count of aggravated driving under the influence that resulted in death and two counts of aggravated DUI that resulted in great bodily harm He was initially charged with reckless homicide and multiple counts of aggravated DUI Torres-Vasquez pulled blindly out of a parking lot on Route 176 in Wauconda and into the path of Homola’s eastbound motorcycle He then careened into a car in the westbound lanes The pregnant woman and her child recovered from the accident but the second victim still suffers from speech issues and remains in therapy Tests after the crash showed Torres-Vasquez had a blood-alcohol level of 0.28 percent Normally sentences handed down to felons are served concurrently Shanes was allowed to force Torres-Vasquez to serve the sentences consecutively the verdict handed down has Torres-Vasquez serving 11 years for killing Homola then serving seven years for injuring the two women Shanes added Torres-Vasquez is not allowed be rewarded for good time until he serves at least 85 percent of the sentence and he will need to serve two years of probation after he completes his sentence Torres-Vasquez told Shanes through an interpreter in court that he “deeply regrets” his actions and that he “really regrets the loss for the family.” Fix said the crash that killed Homola was Torres-Vasquez’s fourth DUI yet he managed to slip through the system and remain in the country Fix said Torres-Vasquez received two DUIs in 2007 and one in 2008 Torres-Vasquez was incarcerated and scheduled to be deported but INS officials allowed him to post bail before his deportation hearing Fix said Torres-Vasquez never showed up to the deportation hearing “His actions over a lifetime in our country shows his blatant disregard for our laws,” she said “He has taken advantage of a system that has allowed him to be in this country.” Torres-Vasquez will receive a little more than one year’s credit for time already served in jail Family members in court read victim impact statements and urged Shanes to impose the toughest sentence possible Niece Jackie (Homola) Billingham of McHenry said Torres-Vasquez ignored laws that were designed to keep people safe from motorists who routinely drive under the influence of alcohol “Take no pity on the defendant as he has taken no pity on the people of this country,” she said “We didn’t deserve to lose (Gregory Homola.)” The scenario involves Filipino and American troops staging an operation involving paratroopers to retake the airport in San Vicente that had fallen into the hands of the enemy Twenty select paratroopers from the two armed services performed a “free fall” jump from a U.S C-130 aircraft as part of an insertion operation before an envisioned offensive drive The military drill was part of Balikatan Exercise 39-2024 staged at Long Beach in Barangay New Aguatya Western Command (Wescom) spokesperson Captain Ariel Joseph Coloma said the troops gained significant lessons in interoperability and joint special operations “Our scenario here is that San Vicente Airport was taken by the enemy so in order to retake that position we insert troops through free fall which is one way of inserting our troops very discretely which is important,” Coloma explained “In actual operations we do this at night and use only a small group of special forces for a lesser foot print to be undetected by the enemy,” he added they will secure the location in preparation for a bigger contingent of troops to enter and retake the location New Agutaya Punong Barangay Alex Baaco expressed gratitude to the Armed Forces of the Philippines for making his barangay as one of the hosts of year it is recognized as the fifth national surfing competition in the recent tour across the Philippines “This year may lima kasi na national competition He also cited that the slower-paced surfing scene in San Vicente would be a welcome break for most surfers who are accustomed to the crowded tourist destinations and wild waves of well-known surfing areas such as Siargao and Borongan it serves as an ideal location for those new to the sport The reason why Cloud 9 is known for having the best waves s because the reefs are very hollow and big it’s not very beginner friendly,” said Tan the municipal tourism officer for San Vicente observed that the number of tourists visiting San Vicente is anticipated to rise during the event This expectation is based on the increase from 41,000 tourists in 2022 to approximately 71,000 between January and November of 2023 She also stated that local government units are actively collaborating with Lazuli Beach Resorts and the organizers of the Paragua San Vic Surfing Competition to prepare for the expected increase in visitors the municipal tourism officer indicated that San Vicente has proactively built 600 rooms to accommodate the anticipated surge in tourist numbers and in Long Beach alone we have 200 of these rooms ginawan natin ng paraan yun na yung mga kalapit lang doon na if they can cover yung rooms lang kung talagang di guiding us up the nearby hill to enjoy the views in the late afternoon Alive are the hills with the sound of the youth talking having fun and me huffing and puffing my way as we go up the hill to see Bato ni Ningning Tourists can take motorbikes up to the top I did take in all the views as I could as I stopped to rest and take pictures We encountered several people on motorbikes as they went up and down the hill The weather was breezy and it drizzled for a while the short climb took about 15 to 20 minutes The backdrop was the beaches of Irawan and you can also see the Long Beach as it peeks through the hills It was windy and the weather was just perfect for this outdoor activity The youth group brought along water bottles for us something I only thought about when we reached the site the community that takes care of its guests We managed to get back to the resort right before nighttime take a shower and get ready for the evening socials It was time for dinner and we were told that the youth group prepared a small presentation for us They didn’t disappoint with a gallery of well-rehearsed performers who performed an ethnic dance We also learned more about the Tabang Para sa Kabataan group I observed that they have a lot of programs to assist and help the people of the barangay I have no doubt that the next leaders of this town will come from this group What followed was an unforgettable feast of seafood and barbecue as we moved further into the night with good-natured banter and fellowship It was great to meet the family of the resort’s owners great company and being close to the beach The sound of the waves is calming as I take in everything this experience has to offer This was our last night here and we are making each minute count The tourism industry includes the community of each place we visit The events and the people always manage to leave an imprint on my gallivanting heart Input your search keywords and press Enter San Vicente in Palawan exudes a Happy Travels! “At the beach, life is different. Time doesn’t move hour to hour, but mood to moment. We live by the currents, plan by the tides, and follow the sun.” These words were exactly what resonated in us when we recently visited Club Agutaya Resort in San Vicente, Palawan It was my second time visiting San Vicente and I was quite surprised to see a lot of developments in the town From the paved roads and tourism-related establishments to the newly opened airport I’m glad this place is being developed with sustainability in mind With the increase in the number of areas being developed tourists will have more equally beautiful options to choose from and will not just overpopulate destinations like Boracay giving these islands time to breathe and heal This also means giving the people in these localities more livelihood sources while protecting their own environment San Vicente is an upcoming resort town in Palawan surrounded by lush green forests with amazing waterfalls a 14.5-kilometer stretch of coastal haven blessed with creamy white sands and crystal clear waters we stayed at Club Agutaya – an eco-friendly boutique resort with environmental sustainability at the helm of its vision the lobby showcases the use of local materials that present that ultimate island vibe Sighting a magnificent chandelier (designed and built in Capiz) hanging from its high ceiling and a wooden staircase leading to the resort’s rooms the interiors were truly a great welcoming view The check-in process was fast and efficient too We were able to go to our respective rooms quite faster than usual I loved the cold cucumber and lemon-infused water available at the lobby for free Club Agutaya Resort has 58 rooms with luxurious private villas dotted with pocket gardens and great access to the pool and beach It also has smaller rooms in the main building which are suited for travelers who want to save money on accommodations I stayed on the 3rd floor of the main building but I prefer it (walking up) that way since burning calories takes a little bit harder as you grow older but it’s good enough since you won’t be staying in your room the whole day long after all You’ll have plenty of time to relax and unwind The bathroom has enough space though and comes with complimentary toiletries Right next to the main building on the way to the beach is a beautiful thatched roof restaurant called Cafe Lily The restaurant serves international cuisine but the main highlight was their local food which uses the freshest ingredients mostly coming from their garden or sourced locally It simply sets my mood to start the day right The dishes in their menu were created by Chef Maria It boasts of delicious cuisines from around the world Hands down to Chef Maria who prepares all the food starting from breakfast all the way to snacks and dinner she’ll literally take you to her own personal dining table just as what she’d do to a friend visiting her house Café Lily also bakes their bread in their own kitchen and serves them fresh every day Club Agutaya generates solar and wind power to light up its LED lights that provide noteworthy luminescence to the resort It is the first resort in the Philippines to use separate pipes in segregating the toilet wastes and treats it in an efficient sewage treatment system that converts it to reusable water The resort also boasts of a well-stocked bar called View Bar the resort manager who is also an expert mixologist she would personally mix different liquors for the resort’s guests I fell in love with her old-fashioned cocktail.:) Club Agutaya has a freshwater infinity pool that coaxes you with its warmth and ambiance Guests may opt to laze in the sun by the beach or may arrange for a private tour at the concierge What makes this resort appealing for a frequent traveler like me is its rawness It literally feels like you are in Boracay back when it was still more pristine 40 years ago but of course with the convenience of having a remarkable resort and good amenities Club Agutaya is really big given that it sits on 3.5 hectares of beach property And even if it was fully booked during our stay We even felt that we were the only guests in the resort Too bad the weather was uncooperative when we went there and we were not able to do other activities The resort is at its perfect state at the moment Everything the resort has is unforgettable especially its friendly staff and its lovely in-house cats and dogs (seriously) I can’t wait to go back to this piece of paradise Check out our complete list of recommended Hotels and Resorts in San Vicente, Palawan via Agoda or you may also see available Airbnb properties in San Vicente.
