we kick things off in Larkspur at World Green Açaí Bowl & Juice
a vibrant little spot serving authentic açaí bowls packed with superfoods and other Brazilian favorites
guests head to San Francisco’s scenic Presidio to visit Dalida
where a former Top Chef contestant serves up contemporary Mediterranean flavors like their 12-hour lamb shoulder tandoor and California tahdig
the journey takes us to Napa’s Villa Corona
a family-owned gem dishing out delicious Mexican favorites like platos de carne and tacos de pescado in a warm
Leslie Sbrocco: Brazilian bites in Larkspur…
Mavish Mahomed-Silva: You will never want to have another açaí bowl again
Leslie Sbrocco: …contemporary Mediterranean cuisine in San Francisco…
Rolando Aguilar: Just a perfect bite with the texture
Leslie Sbrocco: …and traditional Mexican fare in Napa…
Luciana Duarte: It just goes down way too easy
Leslie Sbrocco: …just ahead on “Check
Rolando Aguilar and Mavish Mahomed-Silva: Olive pao de queijo
Bay Area,” the show where Bay Area residents review and talk about their favorite restaurants
and each one recommends one of their favorite spots
and the other two go check them out to see what they think
Please!” table today are culture transformation consultant Luciana Duarte
and partner program manager Mavish Mahomed-Silva
Mavish gets us started with her go-to breakfast spot
little cafe that packs a big punch when it comes to Brazilian flavors
a made-to-order açaí bowl she says is the best in the Bay
it’s World Green Açaí Bowl and Juice
Laura Rabelo: We try to show for all to Americans to try the real açaí bowls
Laura Rabelo: We try to create a space for the people to feel happy
the spot that people get together here to hang out here
We’re so excited to show all the people our Brazilian foods
I love that you say this is your “best in the Bay açaí bowl.” Do you travel the Bay looking for açaí bowls
I have had a decent number of açaí bowls at other places
You will never want to have another açaí bowl again
there’s something about the flavor of their açaí — it tastes pure
and you won’t know what I mean until you try it
There’s a little bit of sweetness to it
but it doesn’t taste like there’s other stuff in it
It just — it’s pure açaí
It’s just — it’s magic in a bowl
Leslie Sbrocco: And the owners are Brazilian
Luciana Duarte: How lucky that we got to go to this restaurant
And you went and spoke Portuguese to the owners
And they actually have terminals for you to order
came over and helped make suggestions since it was the first time that we were there
Luciana Duarte: So we started with the olive pao de queijo
Then we had two different kinds of empanadas
which are technically more of an Argentinean specialty
we love all kinds of things that are Latin American
And so we had one that was filled with chicken
They just felt both decadent and light at the same time
to the meat was perfect and a perfect flaky crust
Leslie Sbrocco: What is it that you get besides the açaí bowl
Mavish Mahomed-Silva: My favorite item is their combo breakfast
It’s almost like a little buffet on a board
and then you get to have either a cheese-bread waffle or a other type of French roll
always choosing the cheese-bread waffle 10 out of 10 times
And then it’s served with maple syrup or a Brazilian cream cheese
that’s a marriage made in heaven in terms of food
Rolando Aguilar: So part of the combo breakfast there was a guava juice
Luciana Duarte: We did get the açaí juice
because they’re so — they’re so thick
And so it has kind of that mouthfeel of a smoothie
Leslie Sbrocco: Anything else that you can recommend for people to try
I would absolutely recommend their tapioca
So you get that same kind of chewy texture as the cheese bread
and then all of the fillings can be sweet or savory
and it’s just like a very hearty meal served with some fruit or salad on the side
Luciana Duarte: We didn’t get the breakfast items
we did have room for a hot dog and…
so the Brazilians have elaborated on the hot dog
and this was actually a hot dog with potatoes two ways
So it was a base of mashed potato spread on the very flaky and crispy French bread that had been warmed
Leslie Sbrocco: And did you have anything else
We actually got these delicious little desserts that I had not tried as a Brazilian
and they are a peanut-butter two-bite dessert
It’s just the perfect amount of savory and sweet
you can take them and kind of crumble them on top of your açaí or your juice
it seems like you get a lot of food for the price
very bang-for-your-buck type of restaurant
And something else I noticed was that we were in the patio
You start hearing the owner talking with other Brazilians
that’s a stamp of approval that local Brazilians are coming to the restaurant
so it’s just over the Golden Gate Bridge
if you would like to try World Green Açaí
it’s located on Magnolia Avenue in Larkspur
and the average tab per person is around $25
the cities of San Francisco and Istanbul have a lot in common
The menu at Roland’s favorite restaurant is a love letter to both cities
as Mediterranean mezes infused with locally foraged California herbs and aromatics forge the perfect blend of east-meets-west
Located in San Francisco’s historic Presidio Main Post
Laura Ozyilmaz: When people walk into Dalida… We have some… we just want them to feel that they’re welcome
Coming from Mexico and Turkey… we’re trying to build something unique with the food and the culture and the hospitality
Sayat Ozyilmaz: We call our cuisine Eastern Mediterranean
So it’s really centered around this idea of a cosmopolitan Istanbul that celebrated all the cultures
Laura Ozyilmaz: People can relate to that in San Francisco because we are a melting pot of cultures
Having a restaurant inside the Presidio is just magical
We are in the community garden where we pick all our beautiful herbs for Dalida
Sayat Ozyilmaz: There’s rose geranium
One of my favorite things that I pick from the garden — the nasturtium flowers
and then we also serve it with a yogurt made with the leaves
really cool to be able to capture the essence of the Presidio
and they’re named after me — chubby pitas
I think just by having that freshness that comes from the oven to the table in about a minute
Sayat Ozyilmaz: One of the things that makes me very happy is
It is something that we’ve always been really passionate about
and really seeing it manifest itself in the dining room is one of the most rewarding feelings
And people actually get frustrated a little bit
There’s so many good things on the menu
and I cannot experience everything in one visit.” Then come back
or is it the location that you really love
Rolando Aguilar: It’s definitely two-for-one because the location is beautiful on a sunny
It’s Middle Eastern Mediterranean cuisine
“What do you recommend?” And the first thing that they said was the breaking bread
And it comes out immediately — the fresh
it’s just a perfect bite with the texture
Mavish Mahomed-Silva: I’m getting hungry now
And it’s just the perfect vehicle for all of those dips and spreads
there’s more pita on the arayes burger
So it’s basically a kebab-stuffed pita with great spices
and you see the juices just ooze to the bottom of the pita
And you can just have that last tasteful bite
and I wish I had ordered the burger now that you’ve described it
We actually had a different dish that also had a different kind of pita
which are skewers with short rib and sweetbreads
which are generally not something that a lot of people love
and it kept the skewers warm until we were ready to eat them
I was excited to find out that the lamb is halal at this restaurant
“I’m ordering the lamb.” So I actually went with one of their pasta-esque dishes
And these manti were really tiny and so cute
It was served in a red sauce with some sort of yogurt in the middle that balanced out the acidity
Rolando Aguilar: We also ordered the 12-hour lamb shoulder tandoor
And also you got to have some greens on the dish
They have so much precision and just mastered their creativity with the art that they’re presenting
which is also something that we enjoy a lot in Brazil
Its meat that has been ground and mixed with grains
Mavish Mahomed-Silva: I also had the shoestring fries
And then it came with a dipping aioli which had a little bit of spice to it
It was a nice way to complement the rest of the meal and just
And you can kind of see the flavors from the Mediterranean and from Central America
Latin America on the dessert menu because you have your tres leches and your rice pudding
but you have to go with the traditional baklava
But the nice thing about this — it’s deconstructed
you have pistachios on top of the puff pastry for the baklava
and also adds raspberry cream sauce at the bottom
and it’s just drizzled all over the plate
so that entire bite was just mesmerizing and hit my sweet tooth very well
Luciana Duarte: We had a different dessert
and it’s an almond-based cross between a cake and a tart
and it comes with a side of honey ice cream
and it was just a perfect way to end the meal
It had a Turkish coffee whipped cream with some hazelnuts on top
Sayat Ozyilmaz: So this is the wild pistachio berries
Mavish Mahomed-Silva: So they take pistachios
and they treat them like they would a coffee bean
and they turn it into almost like a warm nut milk
I’ve never had something like that before
Dalida has a commitment to an extensive cocktail program and really one of the best wine lists I’ve seen
Did you have anything to drink with your meal
So we had the pleasure of sitting at the bar because it was impossible to get a reservation
we don’t have a reservation.” They said
You can sit at the bar.” And that was a stroke of luck because the bartender was fantastic
And then we also had a few glasses of wine by the glass
and some of them were obscure that we wouldn’t have tried necessarily
which is “The Gentleman.” It had tequila
And then it comes in a very beautiful goblet that keeps the drink very cold
So you can drink like three or four of those and not even notice because it’s so well…
Leslie Sbrocco: As long as your girlfriend’s driving
Rolando Aguilar: So we were lucky enough when the dessert came
Chef Laura Ozyilmaz presented the dessert for us
“That’s Chef Laura,” in my mind
Leslie Sbrocco: She was also on “Top Chef.”
Leslie Sbrocco: It’s better to be on “Check
Everything was just like an orchestra conducted beautifully
it’s located in the Presidio in San Francisco
The average dinner tab per person without drinks is around $85
Leslie Sbrocco: Luciana’s a big fan of under-the-radar
Her favorite Mexican eatery is no exception
Serving the traditional dishes of Jalisco for more than 50 years
Carlos Villaseñor: Villa Corona is a piece of Napa
Daniel Villaseñor: It’s comfort food
Villa Corona is my parents and my siblings
My sister Gabriela — she runs the kitchen
Fernando Villaseñor: Butter and garlic
Carlos Villaseñor: My younger brother Fernando runs operation of the restaurant here
Carlos Villaseñor: So my parents started in 1972
We grew up going to all the vineyards selling burritos
My dad would make the burritos at the restaurant
and then we’d go out to the vineyards and he’d sell them out of a van
The only reason we went to school was because my mom made us
Fernando Villaseñor: This is a butter-and-garlic shrimp with the rice and beans
Daniel Villaseñor: Our parents wanted to bring some part of Jalisco in our food
Carlos Villaseñor: Our shrimp dishes
The distinct burrito for us is the wet burrito
The sauce is — it’s smothered in our homemade gravy
Daniel Villaseñor: My parents did not just make a green sauce
They made a chile verde sauce with a lot of ingredients that gave it a lot of taste
Carlos Villaseñor: And the red sauce is made from the broth of the chicken that we cook
Daniel Villaseñor: Everything’s made daily
Carlos Villaseñor: Good ingredients
so we don’t have stuff sitting around
Daniel Villaseñor: Food doesn’t sit around because it doesn’t last long
Carlos Villaseñor: It’s fresh
Carlos Villaseñor: We’re still old-school
Daniel Villaseñor: The nice thing about our restaurant is the range of people
and you would see one of the Mondavis here
We have people that have been eating here for 40-plus years
what’s unique about this spot is it’s been going for 50 years
it really is unpretentious Mexican comfort food is the best way I can describe it
My husband and I really enjoy their generous
but we also have honed in on a couple of dishes that are our tried-and-true ones
And we always get the plato de carne with carne asada
and it comes with your choice of corn or flour tortillas
which are delicious and fresh and actually a fairly healthy dish because it’s a grilled piece of fish
on a bed of lettuce that’s shredded and chopped tomatoes
and it comes with a side of the rice and the beans
Rolando Aguilar: So I actually got the fish tacos
And you can just tell that the fish was grilled immediately right when you ordered it
It’s just a fresh bite with pico de gallo
and Maria’s enchiladas was a spicy green sauce with tangy crema
it felt like my tia’s house with all the decor
My grandma and I used to make horchata growing up
It’s the perfect drink for a hot day in Napa
Luciana Duarte: So they also have these delicious chips and salsa and guac
I actually didn’t have the chips and salsa
and it had some sort of tomato sauce around it
I thought it could have had a little bit more oomph in the flavor
but it was a nice first-appetizer type of portion
It’s a good option for vegetarians or people who really want to keep it light
Mavish Mahomed-Silva: But the star of the show for me were their camarones a la diabla
I have to order something with chilies on the menu
There were just a lot of nice components on the plate to kind of break up the spiciness on your palate
which are essentially popsicles that you can get from a cooler in the back
And so they have a takeout counter which is accessed through a side door
I went with the traditional Mexican churro
and I had that to go because I wanted to eat it on the road because I was too full
your traditional Mexican churro with cinnamon sugar and just a good crunch
I had one hand on my churro and one hand on the steering wheel
But hopefully next time I’ll get the paletas because a nice
Mavish Mahomed-Silva: And now I’m feeling some type of way about not having dessert
Leslie Sbrocco: And did you feel like you got value
I took leftovers home — it was such a massive plate of food — and I had it the next day
it’s located in Bel Aire Plaza in Napa
and the average lunch tab per person without drinks is around $25

So join us next time when three more guests will recommend their favorite spots right here on “Check
Sayat Ozyilmaz: We don’t ever feel like we’re working
Sometimes we just look in each other’s eyes and…
Daniel Villaseñor: I remember when we were washing dishes
I think we broke more dishes than what we washed
This is different.” “Is it possible with sugar?” “Yes!” “Wow

Charges have been upgraded and a judge denied pre-trial release to a man accused of driving over three times the legal limit and crashing into a home near Lake Villa
was initially charged with reckless homicide
Prosecutors have since additionally charged him with aggravated driving under the influence causing death
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said the charges stem from a crash into a home around 7:25 p.m
on December 24 in the 21300 block of West Engle Drive in unincorporated Lake Villa
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a Jeep and a home that had sustained major damage
was traveling eastbound on West Engle Drive
Corona-Vargas’s vehicle crossed into the westbound lane of traffic and then back into the eastbound lane
Corona-Vargas drove off the roadway on the south side
into a yard and the Jeep crashed into the home
The home was unoccupied at the time of the crash
who was sitting in the front seat of the Jeep
was critically injured and pronounced dead at the scene
Covelli said another 22-year-old Round Lake Beach man
was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment
Corona-Vargas suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment
Sheriff’s traffic crash investigators determined Corona-Vargas was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash
He was released from the hospital on Tuesday — a week after the crash — into the custody of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Lake County Jail
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Nicholas Shepherd said beer cans were found inside the Jeep
The seriously injured passenger told investigators they had been drinking at a friend’s house and that Corona-Vargas had a lot of beer — approximately five or six
Shepherd said Corona-Vargas admitted to driving 50-55 mph in a 30 mph zone after drinking beer
He said he lost control of the car and that there was ice on the ground
Corona-Vargas’s blood alcohol content was 0.27
He also allegedly had cannabis in his system
Corona-Vargas was in a neck brace and a wheelchair when he appeared in court this week
said that Corona-Vargas has approximately 14 staples in his head after being released from the hospital and still needs to undergo spinal surgery
Ritacca said Corona-Vargas’ family is close with the victim’s family and Corona-Vargas’ family attended a funeral and celebration of life for the victim
Ritacca argued for Corona-Vargas’ release pending trial and said that his client is not a danger to the community as he cannot drive due to his injuries
very sad and it is an incident that is not with intent
It was an incident that could not be avoided at 6 o’clock at night Christmas Eve where he hit a patch of ice,” Ritacca said
adding that the victim may still be alive if the airbags had deployed
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Corona-Vargas pending trial
“The defendant’s actions in this instant offense demonstrates his threat to the community as he put his life and the life of his friends in danger,” Shepherd said
adding that Maldonado Guerrero lost his life as a result of Corona-Vargas’ decision to drive under the influence
Lake County Judge Michael Nerheim granted the state’s petition during a detention hearing Friday afternoon
The judge said Corona-Vargas poses a real and present danger to the community and that no conditions of release could mitigate the threat
Corona-Vargas is scheduled to appear in court again on Wednesday for a status hearing

An out-of-control car driven by a Napa woman left the driveway at Bel Aire Plaza Monday evening and crashed through the dining patio at Villa Corona
smashing furnishings and sending a family running for safety
A video posted to the Napa Police Department’s Facebook page shows a woman and two young children exiting the store
moments before the car drove up onto the curb
The woman did not appear to notice the oncoming car
barely clearing the corner before tables began flying toward the restaurant
were taken to the hospital with minor injuries
according to the Napa Police and Napa Fire
Villa Corona owner Fernando Villasenor said the security camera footage kept him up last night
“I was just so grateful that they started skipping and running.”
Villasenor said the shopping center will bear some of the costs
but the restaurant is looking at spending about $10,000 to replace the tables
umbrellas and planters in front of the store
Villasenor said the restaurant is open for business
Napa Fire was called to the scene around 5 p.m
Officials found the car crashed into a masonry wall that separates the rear of Bel Aire Plaza from a residential neighborhood
The car stopped about 50 feet from someone’s house
There was no sign of the crash outside of the restaurant Tuesday
Saldivar said she was looking out the window
The explosive impact coated the restaurant’s windows in dirt
The car moved so fast that she only saw its tail as it turned the corner
‘It’s either a tornado or an earthquake.’”
Saldivar’s mind went to the woman and children who had just exited the restaurant
to see a small crowd starting to gather from nearby businesses
The girl was hit by a table while trying to escape
scraped her arm and said she felt pain in her head
told Saldivar that the motorist almost hit his car
He described the car as moving quickly and snaking through the parking lot
“Thank God it was ugly weather” and nobody was eating or cleaning outside
Napa Police did not offer an explanation for the incident
but said medical factors did not appear to be at play in the crash
No arrest was made in connection with the crash
The nearby residential tenant told fire officials that something similar happened about a month ago
when a Bel Aire Plaza patron in the parking lot got the gas and brake pedals confused
They took out a large section of the stone wall
right next to the area where the Napa woman crashed Monday

The Napa Police Department posted stunning surveillance video of the crash on Facebook
"This scary video is a good reminder to always be aware of your surroundings
This family was just stepping out of a restaurant when the driver the car lost control

Control over the protein corona of nanomaterials allows them to function better
we comprehensively assessed the association of surface properties with the protein corona
As revealed by in vitro measurements and computations
the interaction between graphene/gold and HSA/IgE was inversely correlated with the hydroxyl group availability
whereas the interaction between that and ApoE was comparatively less relevant
Molecular simulations revealed that the number and the distribution of surface hydroxyl groups could regulate the manner in which nanomaterials interact with proteins
we validated that ApoE pre-adsorption before injection enhances the blood circulation of nanomaterials relative to their pristine and IgE-coated counterparts
This benefit can be attributed to the invulnerability of the complementary system provided by ApoE
whose encasement does not increase cytotoxicity
this study offers a robust yet simple way to create protein corona enriched in dysopsonins to realize better delivery efficacy
which led to drastic pharmacokinetic changes that also determine the cytotoxicity of the nanoparticles
rather than trying to realize its total elimination
would allow the nanomedicine to function better
These computational findings give us insights into the mechanism underlying the interaction of nanoparticles with proteins and
show how the protein corona governs the identity of nanoparticles
we demonstrate that the combined efforts of experimental and computational investigations can unveil a robust yet simple means of controlling the protein corona
in vitro analyses and all-atom molecular dynamics (MD) simulations reveal that the availability of hydroxyl groups can affect the interaction of nanomaterials (herein
graphene and gold) with three representative serum proteins (HSA
strongly influence the composition of the subsequently formed protein corona
We thus propose that coating nanomaterials with one type of serum protein before blood entry can help adjust their pharmacokinetics and that ApoE encasement unexpectedly leads to extended blood circulation
Our study not only showcases how theoretical and experimental efforts can benefit from each other but also offers a promising approach to achieve long blood circulation via simple chemistry

although the adjustment of hydrophilicity by tuning the hydroxyl group availability of graphene can influence the protein adsorption behavior
their manner of action in terms of CSA was affected in different ways
their numbers of adsorbed hydrophobic residues and the CSA decreased with increasing number of hydroxyl groups
no positive correlation existed between the CSA of ApoE and sheet hydrophilicity

b Schematic illustration of three new designed graphene sheets (Janus
pattern-1 and pattern-2) in the simulation: they have the same number of hydroxyl groups as G-half-OH

the distance of the interval (defined as d) is about 4.2

the ApoE protein could rearrange to somewhat fit the hydrophobic and hydrophilic domains on the graphene surface
although complete reconfiguration is not feasible
It is thus reasonable to see some bad adsorption in certain cases
there might also exist some unexpected interactions between the residues and the nearby domains of the nanomaterials (in this case
the hydrophobic residues cannot just adsorb onto the hydrophobic region and may also interact with the hydrophilic region)
the limited distance between the regions of the hydroxyl groups could hinder protein adsorption
graphene carrying Janus-like hydroxyl groups might be the best choice
meaning that the measurement of Gd content in vivo faithfully reflected the amount of graphene
The Gd-labeled G-half/all-OH samples were passivated with IgE/ApoE before injection into tumor-bearing mice through the tail vein
Uncoated G-half/all-OH samples were assessed under identical conditions for comparison
We sacrificed these mice at various time points after injection and collected several organs and blood samples
b Biodistribution of G-half/all-OH and Au-half/all-OH in four tissues including liver
(n = 3 at each time point) as a function of time
We also extended this approach to iron oxide, a substance well known for its ability to enhance the T2 contrast under magnetic resonance imaging. As the images show (Supplementary Fig. 7)
obviously reduced liver accumulation can be observed when the nanoparticles were coated with ApoE prior to the administration compared with their IgE-coated or pristine counterparts
in which cases the liver tissue was darker
Biological implications of pre-adsorbed proteins

The PDX model was established by transplanting the tissue sections harvested from breast cancer-suffering patients into nude mice
a Content of Au element remained in blood and three tissues
The mice carrying tumor received six types of materials including Au-half/all-OH in the pristine forms and their four derivatives coated with either ApoE or IgE
p Values were calculated using multiple t tests with no inner-group difference of statistical significance can be found
b Pathological analysis of major organs after a 7 and 30 days of exposure to ApoE-coated Au-all-OH
The tissue sections were stained with H&E
c Changes in the levels of biomarkers that would indicate a compromised tissue function
Taking several types of broadly employed materials as examples
we showed here that the availability of hydroxyl groups can be harnessed to manipulate the protein corona and contributes a simple yet robust approach to extend the blood circulation of nanomaterials
Combining the efforts of in vitro analysis and computation
we found that increased hydrophilicity substantially compromises the passivation of graphene by HSA and IgE
whose adsorption results in faster clearance from blood
a critical member of the dysopsonin family that plays a role opposite to the opsonins
is unaffected by changes in hydrophilicity
a shift in surface properties towards hydrophilicity can effectively help resist passivation by bad proteins while leaving good ones nearly unaffected
We further comprehensively investigated how pre-coating with proteins remodeled the manner in which nanomaterials are recognized by the MPS and professional phagocytes by using proteomics and fluorescence imaging
All these findings pointed out that prior coating with ApoE helps maintain a corona rich in dysopsonins
which eventually endow the nanomaterials with enhanced enrichment in tumor tissue
Such an effect exerted by ApoE is not long lasting
possibly owing to the gradual loss of attachment during biological fluid exposure
which unintentionally addresses the concern of long-term safety
We believe that this insight into protein–nanomaterials interactions and their association with hydrophilicity
along with the protein pre-coating methods proposed herein
can promote better utilization of nanomaterials’ therapeutic power

All the protocols for the animal tests have been reviewed and approved by the Committee on Animals at Nanjing University and performed in accordance with the guidelines provided by the National Institute of Animal Care
Both G-all-OH and G-half-OH can be dispersed in PBS and were stored at room temperature before future use
Those freshly prepared Au nanospheres carried CTAC capping layer were next washed for two times with DI water
followed by transferring into solution containing PVP (3 mM) and AA (40 mM)
After gentle shaking to mix well of these components
aqueous solution containing AgNO3 was introduced
The rapid change in color of the solution indicated the success of Ag deposition
along with the exclusion of previous CTAC ligands
The reaction was allowed to proceed for 10 min before the addition of acetone to lower the solubility of PVP-capped Au@Ag nanospheres
We harvested these products through centrifugation and resuspended them in DMF containing either thiol-terminated alkyl alcohol (C8) or alkyl thiol (C8) to create Au-all/half-OH or Au-CH3
Removal of the Ag layer was induced by the introduction of H2O2
during which the C8 ligands got access to and thereby passivated the outer surface of pristine Au nanospheres
the mole ratio of C8 ligands to Au nanospheres to prepare fully hydroxylated particles was set to be 1500: 1
whereas the reduced input of C8 ligands at a ratio of roughly 750: 1 against particles was employed to synthesize Au nanospheres bearing halved hydroxyl groups
All these Au nanomaterial derivatives were collected via centrifugation (22,000g × 30 min) followed by three washes with DI water
They were suspended in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and stored at 4 °C and kept from direct sunlight irradiation
All three types of proteins were obtained from Sigma-Aldrich in the form of powder
they were fluorescently labeled with Alexa Fluor-633 using the peptide labeling kit (Thermo Fisher Scientific
the concentrations of proteins were quantified using BCA assay (Thermo Fisher Scientific)
with its correlation with the fluorescence intensity (measured by fluorescence spectrometer
Shimadzu) was established to guide the estimation of proteins adsorbed onto nanomaterials
1 mg of protein was introduced into PBS and mixed well under vigorous shaking before the addition of graphene (final concentration: 10 mg mL−1)
the protein adsorption was allowed to proceed for 4 h under gentle shaking at 37 oC
the mixture was protected from direct exposure to light
We collected the supernatant of the solution after centrifugation (20,000g × 30 min)
with its fluorescence intensity measured following procedures mentioned above
The number of proteins adsorbed onto nanomaterials were calculated based on the calculated reduction of fluorescence intensity
For the assessment of adsorption onto Au nanospheres
the tests were conducted under identical condition except that the final concentration of nanospheres incubated with proteins was set to be 1014 particles per mL
and the size of the Au surface with 8.0 × 6.0 nm3 for ApoE and IgE
the size of simulation box was 10.5 × 8.5 × 7.0 nm3 for ApoE/IgE-graphene system
12 × 11.5 × 10.0 nm3 for HSA–graphene system
10 × 8 × 8.5 nm3 for ApoE/IgE-Au system and 11 × 10.5 × 11 nm3 for HSA–Au system
the protein and the nanoparticles were placed in a cubic box and placed at a minimum distance of 1.0 nm between any heavy atom of protein and the sheet surface
Then the simulation box was solvated with plenty of water molecules
Na+ or Cl− ions were added to neutralize the systems
the restriction of the graphene sheet and protein was turned off
and the system was performed in the NVT ensemble at 298 K for 200 ns
Each system was simulated six times by changing the speed seed
To quantitatively depict the adsorption behavior of protein onto graphene
the CSA between protein and graphene was introduced
and SASApro+gra represented the solvent accessible surface area of protein
The VMD software was used for trajectory visualization and analysis
The dose regimen was fixed at 10 mg (in terms of graphene) for each mouse
These tissues were subjected to repeated frozen-thaw treatments
followed by digestion in boiling aqua regia (HNO3: HCl
vol/vol).The content of Gd was used to reflect the amount of graphene enriched in corresponding tissue using ICP-MS
For the assessment of Au nanosphere distribution
in vivo tests were conducted under identical condition except that the graphene was replaced by different types of 50-nm Au nanospheres (50 mg kg−1 weight)
Alexa Fluor-633-labeled protein was used for the passivation of Gd(III)-labeled graphene
The original fluorescence intensity and the content of Gd of the sample were measured with fluorescence spectra and ICP-MS
with their ratio calculated and leveraged to estimate the loss of original protein corona
the injection of graphene was conducted as did for the analysis of biodistribution
The mice were next sacrificed at 24 h post injection
with the collected blood and tissues divided into two parts
One-half of the sample was analyzed with ICP-MS to quantify the amount of graphene itself
Other half was minced via the 400-mesh screen
with the harvested single cell suspension stored at −80 °C overnight in order to disrupt the cell integrity
the cell suspension was centrifugated (3000g × 10 min) to get rid of cell debris
We analyzed the fluorescence intensity of the supernatant and recalculated the ratio of [dye]/[graphene]
the loss of original protein corona can be reflected by the changes in such a ratio after the injection
To understand the preservation of coated proteins after 30 days
Au nanospheres carry either ApoE or IgE were injected into the tumor bearing mice (in this case
to keep the mice alive during the observation period
the original volume of tumor at the start point was set to 50 mm3
half of the value of previous biodistribution analysis)
The tumor bearing mice were sacrificed 30 days later
and the content of gold remained in tumor tissue was analyzed by using ICP-MS
with the value of mice received pristine Au-all/half-OH served as control for comparison
and dispersed in phosphate buffer saline (pH ~7.2)
Into the suspension we next introduced the proteins (final concentration: 10 mg mL−1) to fully passivate the surface of nanomaterials
healthy mice received different types of Fe3O4 nanoparticles through tail vein injection
the T2-weighted MR images were collected on 7T ClinScan modality (Bruker)
Triplicate data were analyzed with multiple t tests using GraphPad Prism software (version 7.0); the significance level was set at p < 0.05
Significant statistical differences are indicated by asterisks in corresponding figures

Print CORONA — Corona High junior Seth Hernandez is known as the top two-way baseball player in the class of 2025
Huntington Beach hit decently against Hernandez on Tuesday in the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs
But then he turned to his bat to do damage
Hernandez launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Panthers beat the Oilers
to book their spot in the Division 1 title game
2-seeded Studio City Harvard-Westlake for the championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m
“We’ve got a second chance,” Medure said. “We know it’s not the CIF championship game, but we don’t care. We get to play together and play for something, and that means something to us, so we’ll do it.”
Huntington Beach (23-9) lost to National High School Invitational tournament champion Corona for the third time this season, by a total of five runs. Oilers junior right-hander Tyler Bellerose was certainly up to the challenge Tuesday, allowing just one earned run in his five innings of work.
Corona still struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-out rally. Hernandez singled to right, and took third on another single by Josh Springer. Hernandez then scored on a wild pitch, the third straight pitch in the dirt by Bellerose, with junior catcher Trent Grindlinger blocking the first two.
Tyler Bellerose (14) of Huntington Beach, shown against Villa Park earlier this season, pitched five strong innings on Tuesday. (Don Leach / Staff Photographer) “We were just trying to miss down, you know, but it was just too down,” Medure said. “It caught the front of the plate and it shot up over the top of our catcher. Just one of those things.”
Huntington Beach tied the score in the sixth, on a towering solo home run to right by sophomore CJ Weinstein on a 2-0 pitch. It was the third homer of the year for Weinstein. He was two for three to account for half of the visitors’ hits — Ethan Porter hit a leadoff double in the first and Travis Curry singled in the fifth.
“When you fall behind, it’s tough to get it back, especially good hitters like CJ,” said Hernandez, who allowed the one earned run in six innings and is now 9-0 this season with a 0.50 ERA. “He’s a great hitter. He’s gotten me every time we’ve played. Falling behind hurt me there, but I just adjusted after that, got it back.”
Medure brought in freshman phenom right-hander Jared Grindlinger in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Brady Ebel reached on a high pop-up that landed in fair territory just in front of home plate.
“You teach your pitcher not to catch fly balls or pop-ups,” Medure said. “But in that case, that’s the time to catch it, right? He’s an outfielder — he’s a good athlete — but his brother called him off and the ball dropped. Then it’s a two-run home run. It’s a tricky play, and it happens right at the worst time for us.”
Indeed, Hernandez followed with a homer to left — his eighth of the season — on a 2-1 changeup over the middle.
Billy Carlson pitched a 1-2-3 scoreless seventh inning to earn the save for Corona, which has advanced to its first CIF title game since 2017.
Huntington Beach was vying for its third CIF Southern Section title game appearance, the first since the program’s lone championship in 2015.
“It’s tough, especially when you play a team so much and see them more and more,” Hernandez said of his team’s close games with the Oilers this year. “I don’t think it gets easier, I think it gets harder. the novel coronavirus pandemic has dramatically affected the world by producing 4.8 million deaths
Mathematical modeling is one of the useful mathematical tools which has been used frequently to investigate the dynamics of various infectious diseases
It has been observed that the nature of the novel disease of coronavirus transmission differs everywhere
implying that it is not deterministic while having stochastic nature
a stochastic mathematical model has been investigated to study the transmission dynamics of novel coronavirus disease under the effect of fluctuated disease propagation and vaccination because effective vaccination programs and interaction of humans play a significant role in every infectious disease prevention
We develop the epidemic problem by taking into account the extended version of the susceptible-infected-recovered model and with the aid of a stochastic differential equation
We then study the fundamental axioms for existence and uniqueness to show that the problem is mathematically and biologically feasible
The extinction of novel coronavirus and persistency are examined
and sufficient conditions resulted from our investigation
some graphical representations support the analytical findings and present the effect of vaccination and fluctuated environmental variation
The causative agent was the novel coronavirus
also known as the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)
It was identified in January 2020 by isolating a single patient
The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic infected 589 million people
and produced 6.5 million deaths up to August 2022 around the world
WHO has declared that it is an international public health emergency
The SARS-CoV-2 virus is highly infectious due to rapid spreading around the globe
The potential spreading of the disease is a complex issue for public health
Typical symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection include cough
Vaccination plays a vital role in disease prevention
Recently after the pandemic of the SARS-CoV-2 virus
and ultimately the immunization programs go massively to reduce the depreciation of the novel coronavirus disease
effective control mechanisms are forecasted to suggest useful guidelines for health officials and take serious steps to control various infectious diseases
The control of novel coronavirus is a challenging task and attracts the attention of various researchers
The main contribution of this paper is to formulate an alternative stochastic epidemiological model for the SARS-CoV-2 virus with the aid of a stochastic differential equation and to incorporate the fluctuated disease prorogation as well as including the effect of vaccination according to the characteristic of the disease
The graph demonstrate the evolution and schematic process of the novel corona virus propagation
We present the proposed stochastic model: susceptible-infected and recovered model under the effect of vaccination and varying population by placing the following constraints in terms of some assumptions
and constants of the problem are non-negative values
We symbolize the total population by x(t) divided into various population groups of susceptible
Mathematically we can write as \(x(t)=s(t)+i(t)+r(t)\) as varies against t
The pandemic of SARS-CoV-2 rises due to human contact
The transmission everywhere differs; therefore
the various groups of the model are driven by the equal randomness or source as symbolized by B(t)
The change in these populations groups is associated with the same information source demonstrated by the Brownian motion filtration \(F=(F_t)_{t\in [,T]}\)
where \(F_t:= \sigma (B(t))\) is the s-algebra as generated by the Brownian motion B(t)
The results show that a variation in a group has an impact directly on the other group
We fluctuate the disease transmission parameter in such a way that \(\alpha \rightarrow \alpha +\varrho {\dot{B}}(t)\)
where the standard Brownian motion is symbolized by B(t) is and so \(B(0)=0\)
and \(\varrho\) is the white noise intensity satisfying \(\varrho ^2>0\)
The vaccination of susceptible populations will be accorded permanent immunity
the governing equations of the models ultimately take the following form
where the detailed characterization of the model parameters is as we use \(\Lambda\) as a parameter for the newborn rate
while the death rate (natural and disease) are symbolized by \(\mu\) and \(\mu _1\) respectively
The vaccination rate of susceptible is assumed to be v
and \(\gamma _1\) is the natural recovery or the recovery due to treatment
\(\varrho\) is the environmental white noise intensity
while B(t) denotes the scalar standard Brownian motion
If we put \(\varrho =0\), the system (1) reduces to its associated deterministic form
we ultimately derive the equilibria (disease-free and endemic) as given by \(e_0\) and \(e_{*}\) whose components are given
Where \(R_0\) is the threshold quantity (basic reproductive number) represents the expected number of secondary infections produced by a single infective whenever introduced into a susceptible population
calculated with the aid of the next-generation method approach
It could be observed that either the epidemic rises or dies out depending on the value of the basic reproductive number
Here we will discuss a brief sensitivity analysis of the basic reproductive number
Which provides the relative impact of the model parameters and threshold quantity
the sensitivity index of a parameter \(\psi\) is denoted by \(S_{\psi }\) and defined by the following equation
The graph shows the variation of the basic reproductive number against the parameters \(\alpha\) and v.
The graph demonstrate the variation of the basic reproductive number against parameters \(\alpha\) and \(\gamma _1\).
The variation of the basic reproductive number for the parameters \(\gamma _1\) and v
We show that the model (1) has a unique solution, positive as well as global, and therefore the proposed problem (1) is well-posed
Regarding the existence and uniqueness analysis
The solutions to the proposed problem, as stated by Eq. (1) is unique for any initial conditions in \(R^{3}_{+}\)
the solution will also remain in \(R^{3}_{+}\) with probability 1
\((s(t),i(t),r(t))\in R^{3}_{+}\) for \(t\ge 0\) a.s (almost surely)
then there exists a solution on the interval of \(t\in [0,\tau _e)\) with the explosion time \(\tau _e\)
It is now required to investigate whether the solution satisfies the global properties
We assume that \(k_0\) is non-negative and sufficiently large
and \(r_0\) lie in \(\big [\frac{1}{k_0},k_0\big ]\)
It is clear that increase in \(\tau _k\) is related to k as \(k\rightarrow \infty\)
then it is increasing and therefore making the substitution of \(\tau _\infty =\lim _{k\rightarrow \infty }\) implies that \(\tau _\infty \le \tau _e\) a.s
We will prove that \(\tau _\infty =\infty\) for investigating \(\tau _e=\infty\) and so (s(t)
it is needed to show that \(\tau _e=\infty\) a.s
if this is not true and the statement becomes false
\(T>0\) and \(\epsilon \in (0,1)\) exist which satisfy
Obviously \(G\ge 0\) as \(-\log q+q-1\ge 0\) for every \(q>0\). Choosing \(T>0\) and \(k\ge k_0\) are two arbitrary constants, then It\({\hat{o}}\) formula for Eq. (9) gives
Using Eq. (8) in Eq. (11) may gives the following assertion
Putting \(\Omega _k={\tau _k\le T}\) whenever \(k\ge k_1\) then using Eq. (6) imply that \(P(\Omega _k)\ge \epsilon\)
It is also noted that for all \(\omega\) in \(\Omega _k\)
\(r(\omega ,\tau _k)\) at least once that is equal to \(\frac{1}{k}\) or k
and so \(G(s(\tau _k),i(\tau _k),r(\tau _k))\) is not less then \(-\log k+k-1\) or \(-1+\frac{1}{k}+\log k\)
Therefore, Eqs. (6) and (13) implies that
where \(1_{\Omega (\omega )}\) is used to represent the indicator function of \(\Omega\)
If \(k\rightarrow \infty\) then \(\infty >H\big (s_0,i_0,r_0\big )+TM=\infty\) occurs
which shows that \(\tau _\infty =\infty\) a.s
Further, it could be investigated that the solutions of the proposed problem are positive, so the first equation of the system (1) gives the solution
implies that s(t) is positive. Similarly the second assertion of the model (1) looks like
Clearly Eq. (17) gives that i(t) has non-negative values
On the same way we can prove that r(t) is positive
It could be noted from the above result as stated by theorem 4.1 that for any initial conditions in \(R_{+}^3\), the unique global solution of system (1) exists a.s
The above Eq. (18) yields
Clearly \(x(t)\le \Lambda /\mu\) a.s, if \(x(0)\le \Lambda /\mu\) and the feasible region for our considered model (3) is defined as
We investigate how the disease could be eradicated
We use some basic definitions and notations that will be used in the upcoming analysis
We also assume that the threshold quantity (basic reproductive number) symbolized by \(R_0^S\) for the proposed model (1) is given by
For the proposed problem, as stated by Eq. (1) holds
then the novel disease of coronavirus persists in the mean
We describe the analysis regarding the analysis of extinction with the help of the following theorem
If \(R_0^S<1\) and \(\alpha (\mu +v)>\varrho ^2\Lambda\) is satisfied
then the following holds for the solutions of the proposed model
which describes that i(t) approaches 0 exponentially and
where \((s^0,0,r^0)\) is the disease free equilibrium of the deterministic version of the proposed problem
We integrate both sides of system (1) and obtain
The addition of the first two equations of the above system (24) leads to the assertion
Clearly \(\phi (t)\) approaches 0 whenever t approaches \(\infty\). Moreover, again system (1) and It\({\hat{o}}\) formula application gives
Integrating both sides of Eq. (26) and dividing by t with some algebraic manipulation
Now making use of \(R_0^S\) in the above equation implies
Thus Eq. (28) can be also re-written as
If \(R_0^S<1\) and \(\alpha (\mu +v)>\varrho ^2\Lambda\) hold, then Eq. (30) gives
We show the assertion (22)
Solving Eq. (32) which yields
We apply the L’Hospital rule to the above Eq. (33) and substitute Eq. (31)
The solution of the limiting system of the 1st equation of model (1) gives
We discuss the analysis of persistence with the help of the theorem as stated below
If \(R_0^S>1\) and \(\alpha (\mu +v)>\varrho ^2\Lambda\) then for any initial conditions in \(\Omega ^{*}\) the solution of system (1) satisfies
We can write from Eq. (28) that
Again the use of Eq. (25) in Eq. (27) gives
The re-arrangement and taking \(\lim\) inferior
Thus Eqs. (39) and (41) leads to the conclusion which is required \(\square\)
the numerical simulation is given to verify the analytical work
we present a short overview of the discretization of stochastic differential equations models
Producing a sample X(t) around t with the utilization of the solution of the above equation, we will find X(t) over a continuous period. Making use of the notation \({\tilde{X}}_k\), \(B_k\) and \({\tilde{X}}(k\Delta t)\) for simplicity instead of \(B(k\Delta t)\). Thus the discretization of Eq. (42) gives
where N symbolizes the time steps and \(\Delta t=T/N\). It could be noted that the application of Itô-Taylor expansion leads to the stochastic Euler Maruyama (SEM) method to simulate the proposed stochastic model. We retrieve the discretized trajectory of X(t) from the Eq. (42)
we may use the algorithm of Euler Maruyama:
Simulate \(\Delta B_k\) as a normal distributed random variable \(N(0
Putting \({\tilde{X}}_0:=X_0\) and applying \({\tilde{X}}_{k+1}\) by following the formula given below
for \(\Delta B_k=B_{k+1}-B_k\) and \(k=0,\ldots ,N-1\)
We utilize the above technique for simulation of the corona model as stated by Eq. (1) to investigate the verification of our theoretical findings
which lead to the following system as defined by
where \(\Delta B_k\) is the random variable and are independent \(N(0, \Delta t)\) normally distributed random variables. We can also write the system (45) as
The graphs demonstrate the extinction and persistence analysis of the SARS-CoV-2 virus transmission using the proposed model (1).
The graphs illustrate the effect of vaccination on the dynamics of susceptible, infected and recovered population in case of disease extinction. We noted that whenever the progress of vaccination are increases, the susceptible and infected population are decreases while the recovered population are increases.
The graphs represent the temporal dynamics of the model against various values of white noise intensity in case of disease extinction, which reflects that there is no considerable effect of white noise intensity on the disease dynamics.
The graphs represent the effect of vaccination on the dynamics of various compartments in case of the persistence analysis of the model (1).
The graphs represent the effect of white noise intensity on the dynamics of the compartmental population of the epidemic problem (1) in case of disease persistence analysis
The novel coronavirus disease transmissions are investigated with the help of a stochastic epidemic model under the effect of vaccination and fluctuated incidence rate
The stochastic model is formulated according to the characteristics of the disease and studies the basic fundamental axioms of well-posedness for biological and mathematical feasibility
We also discussed the detailed analysis of the extinction and the persistence analysis to identify sufficient conditions in terms of the model parameters
We simulated the model to support the analytical work and to present the impact of vaccination and the intensity of white noise
It could be noted that the stochastic process
have a positive influence on disease transmission and its elimination
We observe that the effect of vaccination and white noise intensity have a direct relation with the extinction of the disease and are inversely related to the disease persistence
It is observed that as the values of these parameters increase
we will take the extended version of the proposed model to formulate a control problem keeping in view the current scenario to find the optimal methods for the elimination of the current pandemic of the novel disease of the coronavirus

The itinerant traveler counted LA as one of his favorite cities in the world
Despite the sunshine, the slow pace of the sidewalk crowds, and all that sprawl, Anthony Bourdain always kept a little love in his heart for Los Angeles. The iconic chef, writer, television host, traveler, and beloved-by-everyone media figure died this morning in France at the age of 61
Below, Eater has compiled a few kind recollections that Bourdain shared about his time in Los Angeles, from staying at the Chateau Marmont to eating at his favorite fast-food restaurant
He really did love In-N-Out: It’s no secret that Bourdain had a thing for In-N-Out. In fact, he often described it as among the only fast food he would eat, period, and certainly at the top of his list. Here he is in 2015 describing just how wonderful those burgers are
And LA’s Mexican food: Last year, Bourdain sat down with chef Eduardo Ruiz of the shuttered Corazon y Miel to discuss modern Mexican food in Los Angeles. The group dined happily at Ray Garcia’s Broken Spanish in Downtown, discussing the flavors of Los Angeles and what makes Mexican food so vibrant
On the same show
Bourdain managed to take in large swaths of LA’s immigrant communities
The Parts Unknown season premiere from 2017 offered a ton of gorgeous pull quotes
That includes the small spots: Perhaps no Los Angeles restaurant has been better helped by Anthony Bourdain’s mere presence than Tacos Villa Corona in Atwater Village. The tiny takeaway window almost immediately became nationally known after Bourdain showed up for a sidewalk burrito way back in 2012
Respecting immigrant workers in the kitchens and the fields: Bourdain was never one to hold his tongue, particularly in the wake of the 2016 election of President Donald Trump. In an Eater interview given just before Trump officially took office
Bourdain had this to say about the now-president’s racist policies toward immigrants:
But if I can convince people to look around
and see who’s actually doing a lot of the work in this country — picking vegetables
it’s all immigrant labor — and then ask themselves
whether they under any circumstances would take that job
Koreatown was a favorite haunt: Koreatown feels almost tailor-made for a man like Anthony Bourdain. Filled with warrens of hidden restaurants and all-night dining and drinking dens, the LA neighborhood quickly became one of the TV personality’s favorite places to take his cameras
And most recently, he ate everywhere else in LA: Just last month, Bourdain and the Parts Unknown crew dropped a series of Los Angeles-based vignettes. The small episodes were meant to capture the lesser-known immigrant communities of Los Angeles
from Little Armenia to the LASA guys cooking Filipino food in Chinatown
Bourdain kept a lot of love for (and gave a lot of life-changing screen time to) Los Angeles

SARS-CoV-2 is the cause of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic
we investigated the interaction of this new coronavirus with Vero cells using high resolution scanning electron microscopy
the interior of infected cells and the distribution of viral particles in both environments were observed 2 and 48 h after infection
and viral interactions with the cell surface
Intercellular connections were also approached
and viral particles were adhered to these extensions suggesting direct cell-to-cell transmission of SARS-CoV-2
Understanding the virus-cell interactions is key to vaccines
Most microscopic studies of SARS-CoV-2 were performed with transmission electron microscopy
we used high resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to study inner cellular structures
The results offer evidence of infection-induced cellular remodeling and the formation of a specialized region for viral morphogenesis
We also show intercellular extensions for viral cell surfing
These observations offer new insights into the transmission of SARS-CoV-2
SARS-CoV-2 isolate (HIAE-02: SARS-CoV-2/SP02/human/2020/BRA (GenBank accession number MT126808.1) was used in this work
The virus was grown in Vero cells (Monkey African Green kidney cell line – ATCC CCL-81) in the Laboratory of Molecular Virology
Vero cells were maintained in DMEM supplemented with 5% fetal bovine serum (FBS; GIBCO) at 37 °C and 5% CO2
All work involving infectious SARS-CoV2 was performed in a biosafety level (BSL)-3 containment laboratory
Semi-confluent (70%) cells were grown on sterile glass coverslips in 24-well tissue culture plates infected with MOI (multiplicity of infection – the rate of virus per cell) values of 0.01

Fresh medium containing 5% FBS was added after an absorption period of 1.5 h at 37 °C and 5% CO2
Cells were processed for electron microscopy 2 or 48 h post-infection (hpi)

Viruses could also be observed on the edge of membrane ruffles (arrowheads) (A) and phyllopodium-like extensions (B)
In (C) a viral particle could be seen adhered to the edge of the microvilli-like structure (arrow) next to membrane ruffles (long arrow) surrounding SARS-CoV-2 particles (arrowheads)
(D) Communications between two infected cells are indicated with arrowheads
One of the bridges between the cells was depicted in the rectangle
A higher magnification of this area is shown in (E) and displays viral particles (arrows) on their surface
Aggregates of SARS-CoV-2 particles (arrowheads) were also observed on the surface of both cells
This microscopic approach detailed virus-induced changes in the cell
Our assays were performed using three MOIs (0.01; 0.1 and 1)
and we could discern the MOI of 0.1 as the more adequate for this type of study
This MOI allowed the best cell conditions and distribution and also allowed visualization of virions through the cell surface into the cell interior
and thus we speculate that their role in viral pre-components leads to discharge into the compartments
Studies with other coronaviruses identified large virion-containing vacuoles (LVCVs) where the complete particle would bud
There is correlation between these structures as observed by transmission electron microscopy and our data suggesting the occurrence of both phenomena
our observations suggest that a boost in vacuoles is restricted only to a specific and more condensed part of the cytoplasm
This suggests translocation to the plasma membrane is required for release the viral particles by a fusion mechanism
This mechanism is presumed to allow the in vivo penetration of virus in mucosal surfaces that display microvilli-rich cells
virus cell surfing was shown on SARS-CoV-2 infection

Anthony Bourdain may have been a ride-or-die New Yorker
but that doesn't mean he was immune to the allure of Los Angeles
He featured the city on several television shows he hosted including "A Cook's Tour," "No Reservations," "The Layover," and "Parts Unknown." On each episode
Bourdain shone a spotlight on some of his favorite restaurants
He also enlisted special guests to take him to some of their favorite eateries
many of which he immediately took a liking to
Based on those shows and interviews the chef did with various media outlets
we have a clear picture of the restaurants Bourdain loved in L.A
All that mattered to Bourdain was whether the food was truly good
If you're planning a trip to the City of Angels and want to eat some seriously good grub
these are some of the restaurants in Los Angeles that Bourdain thought were a step above the rest
Anthony Bourdain visited Los Angeles twice for CNN's "Parts Unknown." In the first episode, he explored several spots in Koreatown. In the second episode
are a vital part of us." One of the first spots he visited on that episode was Gish Bac
a restaurant specializing in cuisine from Oaxaca
Gish Bac serves a variety of traditional Mexican dishes
but the house specialties are mole negro and barbacoa
Mole negro is a complex sauce that typically includes roughly 30 ingredients
very deep." Barbacoa typically features lamb or goat slow-cooked until the meat is falling apart
The family that runs Gish Bac hails from Oaxaca and draws on generations of experience cooking these dishes
so it doesn't get much more authentic than that
instagram.com/gishbac/
the celebrity chef gushed about a meal he had there with the Queens of the Stone Age crew
Bourdain's meal at Chi Spacca consisted of salumi
he had to indulge in some of the meats the restaurant is famous for
He tried a beef and marrow pie that he said
"flooded my head with awesomeness." The dish that impressed him the most though was a massive bone-in Fiorentina steak
You can still find many of those dishes on the menu today
chispacca.com
and one that impressed him in Los Angeles was The Prince
the bar originally opened as The Windsor in 1949
The grand interiors caught the eye of movie talent scouts
and the spot would go on to feature in films like "Chinatown" and "The Woman in Red." When Korean owners took over in the 1990s
they revamped the menu to include Korean dishes but kept the original old-school decor

Tail O' the Pup is a retro hot dog stand that's shaped like a giant hot dog
Sidle up to the counter and you have your choice of all-beef or veggie hot dogs with a variety of toppings
Bourdain went for a chili cheese dog with tomatoes
tailothepup.com
While exploring some of Los Angeles' most iconic Mexican eateries on "Parts Unknown," Bourdain enjoyed a seafood feast at Mariscos Chente with a crew of mixed martial arts fighters
a heaping plate of camarones borrachos (drunken shrimp)
The dish featured whole shrimp (minus the tails) sauteed in garlic and butter over high heat
The dish was finished with a sprinkling of cilantro
Mariscos Chente started as a backyard seafood joint at Vincent Cossio's family home in 1984
The family opened an official restaurant on Imperial Drive in 1987 and it quickly earned accolades for its flavorful Nayarit and Sinaloa-style seafood dishes
the younger generation took over and rebranded the restaurant as Coni'Seafood
The dishes are just as authentic and vibrant as the original Mariscos Chente
so much so that Coni'Seafood has received a coveted Michelin Bib Gourmand award

If you're a meat lover like Bourdain was, it's pretty hard to pass up some good Korean barbecue. One of the chef's favorite KBBQ spots in Los Angeles was Park's BBQ. He told L.A. Weekly that every time he was in town he would visit the restaurant and that he brought several chef friends there
Park's BBQ is all about premium meats like USDA Prime and Kobe-style beef that you can grill yourself at your table
The meal typically starts with an array of appetizers called banchan like kimchi pancakes
After whetting your appetite with the banchan
you can grill up your choice of meats including galbi (prime beef shortribs)
You can wash down your barbecue feast with Korean soju

"It's the only fast-food chain that I actually like and think is reasonably good for the world."
The first In-N-Out hamburger stand opened in Baldwin Park
It was a drive-thru spot where people could order their meals via a two-way speaker box and pick up their food without having to get out of their cars
although you can also dine inside and outside at many In-N-Out locations
Bourdain was a fan of the Double Double burger with two beef patties and cheese on a toasted bun
which includes mustard-grilled burger patties

The dishes are not only delicious but also a testament to how deeply ingrained Mexican culture is in the culinary heritage of Los Angeles

Anthony Bourdain may have spent over twenty years working as a chef in professional kitchens
That may have been what attracted him to Musso & Frank
a swanky restaurant and bar that first opened in 1919 and has attracted more than its fair share of Hollywood writers and actors over the past century
it may just be the restaurant's timeless atmosphere
and decadent dishes that drew Bourdain to the spot and kept him coming back time and again
In an interview with Haute Living
"a perfectly-preserved old-school Hollywood restaurant." He stated that he loved how the bartenders knew how to whip up perfect cocktails with no pretensions and that the menu featured classic steakhouse dishes
When asked which dishes he would pair with his cocktails
the chef said he would opt for tried-and-true favorites like the wedge salad
It's not hard to picture Bourdain sipping a martini at the mahogany bar or tucking into a steak in one of the leather booths at this historic Hollywood spot

The second place Bourdain sought out on his quest for the perfect Angeleno hot dog on "A Cook's Tour" was Pink's Hot Dogs
dog maker's art." This iconic hot stand has been slinging sausages since 1939
It started as a simple push-cart and transitioned to a brick-and-mortar shop in 1946
you'll likely find a line-up of hungry patrons under the pink awning waiting to get their fix of all-beef dogs dressed in an array of toppings
Bourdain tried a variety of hot dogs on his visit to Pink's including the O.G
chili cheese dog; the classic bacon dog; and a 12-inch jalapeño dog with guacamole
Other imaginative dogs include the New York Dog with sweet and saucy onions and the Carl Reiner Dog with mustard and sauerkraut
Bourdain was taken aback by the gluttony of toppings
pinkshollywood.com
The premise of the Travel Channel's show "The Layover" was to show people where to eat and drink if they only had a day or two in a given city
One of the spots that Bourdain recommended in Los Angeles for a hearty breakfast was Tacos Villa Corona
this small taco stand may be slightly out of the way if you're staying downtown
but Bourdain said it's well worth the trip
hole-in-the-wall — all the marks of quality," he said
Tacos Villa Corona is renowned for its breakfast burritos that are packed with tasty ingredients like eggs, potatoes, chorizo, and beans. You can also go vegetarian with a nopales (cactus) breakfast burrito or add some crunch by packing your burrito with chilaquiles
every day and typically serves through to lunch
You may want to get there early though because the stand closes when the food runs out

"My brain is still pleasantly deranged with endorphins."
Bourdain wasn't the only one smitten with Night & Market
Food & Wine named Yenbamroong one of the Best New Chefs of 2016
and the restaurant was nominated for a James Beard Award for Outstanding Wine Program in 2020
Yenbamroong has also expanded the restaurant to three locations across Los Angeles and one in Las Vegas
The menus vary slightly but you can expect dishes like spicy salads
Natural wines are also available at all locations

calling his meal "outstanding" and "maybe the best."
Osteria Mozza is another venture by award-winning duo Nancy Silverton and Joe Bastianich
The decor is sophisticated but inviting with high ceilings
The focal point of the restaurant is the marble mozzarella bar where you can sample cheese-centric dishes like burrata with bacon and smoked buffalo mozzarella
The main menu is just as enticing with dishes like pappardelle with rabbit ragu
Be sure to save room for the rosemary olive oil cakes

A Facebook post March 17 warned users to be careful when going to the gas station
claimed gas pump handles help spread coronavirus
"I just spoke with a friend who got called into an emergency meeting at his hospital," McDonald wrote
"He said the virus is spreading quickly from gas pumps."
The Facebook post has roughly 310,000 shares
along with nearly 4,000 comments and 4,000 likes
“I am a paramedic and understand how easily these viruses can spread through [everyday] objects,” McDonald told USA TODAY
“This was just a couple things they mentioned the virus can spread through and people [are] not realizing it
As a medical professional it’s my obligation to inform [the] public on things like this.”
Other versions of the claim have appeared on social media and messaging apps. Some versions of the post named hospitals where the “emergency meeting” took place. One such message on WhatsApp attributed the claim to Galway Hospital in Ireland. "We’ve not issued any such advice," a spokesperson for Galway University Hospital told the Journal.ie on March 20
Snopes and Health Feedback investigated the claim and found it to be partly false
Snopes explained: “Gas pumps are just one of many objects that multiple people commonly handle in similar fashion during the course of a day
all of which pose varying degrees of risk.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention maintains that person-to-person contact is the main method of transmission. The agency says
“It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth
but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.”
Researchers can’t measure how many cases are contracted through contaminated surfaces
Health Feedback said
“SARS-CoV-2 can survive for multiple days on solid surfaces like plastic or stainless steel
no scientific studies have investigated how many people contract the virus through contaminated surfaces compared to direct contact with droplets spread by coughing and sneezing.”
Thursday, the CDC released research conducted on the Diamond Princess Cruise ship
where there was a major COVID-19 outbreak in early February
The research revealed the virus was detectable on surfaces after 17 days without disinfection: “SARS-CoV-2 RNA was identified on a variety of surfaces in cabins of both symptomatic and asymptomatic infected passengers up to 17 days after cabins were vacated on the Diamond Princess but before disinfection procedures had been conducted.”
The researchers could not determine whether the contaminated surfaces led to transmissions of COVID-19 on the ship but advocated for further exploration
More: Coronavirus genetic material stayed on surfaces for up to 17 days on Diamond Princess cruise, CDC says
McDonald suggested people use gloves or a paper towel to handle gas pumps
“Wear gloves or have a paper towel touch the pump and throw the napkin or gloves out before you get back in the car,” he wrote
The executive director of the nonprofit Fuels Institute, John Eichberger, told Consumer Reports, “If consumers are really worried about touching a gas pump handle
they can do what they do when they go to a grocery store and wipe down surfaces with disinfectant wipes when they need to touch something.”
The WHO describes how contact with contaminated surfaces can lead to transmission: “Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses
the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.”
The CDC stresses the importance of proper hand-washing to prevent transferring the virus from a public surface – such as a gas pump – to your body
“Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place.”
We conclude the claim that the coronavirus is "spreading quickly from gas pumps" is PARTLY FALSE because some of the claim was not supported by our research
Although the virus can spread from contact with droplets on surfaces
there is no evidence to suggest it spreads quickly via gas pumps or hard surfaces in general
person-to-person contact is the main method of transmission
The CDC and WHO offer guidance on proper hygiene and disinfection methods to minimize chances of exposure to the coronavirus

the surprise of jalapeño and a deft griddle chop to mix all the ingredients together
all while staying under $6 (unless of course you order extra meat)
And the searingly hot house salsa is always a welcome addition
Just remember: they're cash-only and the breakfast burritos are only served until 11 a.m

Burger Factory may look like much—it's in a strip mall and has ridiculous cartoon paintings all over—but it can sure deliver a quality breakfast burrito
This no-frills spot goes back to the basics and fills their extra-large burrito (seriously
you could eat this lil log over two sittings) with your choice of sausage or bacon
They don't skimp on the fillings and they also give you some solid salsa to go with it
so you can save your money for an horchata to wash it down
Burger Factory is located at 6050 Hollywood Blvd

beachside favorite gives you free reign to find your favorite breakfast-burrito combo
offering 16 different suggested variations along with long lists of proteins
Whether you go big with the Triple (tri-tip
potato and Monterey jack) or keep it light with veggies and egg whites to maintain that beach bod
but the fresh ingredients keep things light
And they're all around $5 or $6 (unless you go crazy with the add-ons)
Don't forget to grab all three house salsas if you want to mix up the heat levels while you chow down
While this upscale brunch favorite may be thought by many as the place for amazing baked goods and dishes that require a knife and fork
they also bring their A-game to their breakfast burritos
It may be a touch more gourmet than most—and pricier at $12—but it's hard to argue with fluffy scrambled eggs
Add Niman Ranch bacon or Peads & Barnetts sausage for an extra two bucks and you're golden
that while you can request sour cream on the side
modifications are "politely declined," so you better be ready for the works

Corona has launched its new ‘This Is Living’ global brand platform via Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam
The campaign taps into the universal desire for freedom
the brand wants to inspire people to go outside and live more moments that matter
VIEW THE LIME RITUAL SPOT
VIEW THE FLOW SPOT
Through original content featuring authentic voices from around the world, this new global brand platform reminds consumers to relax, enjoy life and live authentic moments with friends.
In addition to ‘The Flow’, Corona’s signature way to enjoy its refreshing beer is brought to life through ‘Lime Ritual’, a mesmerizing 60-second film shot from the view of the lime. A series of 15-second product films that focus on the bottle have also been created, which leverage the unique transparency of the product using it to frame life moments that truly matter in a visually compelling way.
The campaign’s out of home represents the new ‘This Is Living’ positioning with executions featuring both active and relaxed moments, and which aim to serve as a mini-vacation from normal life for the viewer. The executions will run as outdoor, print and online, in addition to underpinning a comprehensive new social media strategy for the brand.
Says Mark Bernath, executive creative director at Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam: “Corona’s new creative positioning is an evolution of the brand’s iconic style – it’s still visually guided by the beach as it has always been, only now we are bringing more meaning to the reasons to go there. This is living is the articulation of that feeling we have when we find ourselves in awe of where we are. Our feet in the sand. A Corona in our hand. And space to breathe.”
In the coming months the campaign will roll out in the United Kingdom, Europe, South America, Asia Pacific and North America (excl. USA).

Watching multimillionaire Snoop Dog in designers clothing, at a resort, does not a lot of good to market Corona to common Americans.
Hey this is nice and all, but I’m at a loss as to why you’d bin all the equity that’s been built-up in “from where you’d rather be”. Which seemed perfectly fine to me.
Give me, “From Where You’d Rather Be” any day.
Is it just me or would it be easy to take out the Corona bottle and put in a Coke bottle?
