The nation of Mexico is home 130 million people across 31 states (Mexico City is a separate entity but not a state in itself
Mexican cities are often host to a violent crimes including homicide
we'll detail the most dangerous cities in Mexico and give some info about their history
In the past 20 years, the Mexican economy has trended downward while organized crime has expanded to supply illicit drugs to the United States and other foreign markets, leading to gang violence and other violent crimes
Drug cartels tend to operate in cities where they can establish drug trafficking routes
meaning port cities along the coast and border towns neighboring the U.S
While researching, we used a national heat map created by Mexican data scientist Diego Valle-Jones
which details the homicide rates of individual cities based on statistics compiled from the Mexican Justice System over the past twelve months
We then filtered this data to only select for local populations over 100,000 because towns with small sample sizes over a short period of time can create statistical outliers
Manzanillo is one of the most active shipping ports in Mexico as well as a hub for domestic air travel, making it a likely site for trafficking through local drug markets as well as internationally. This area is known frequently as the most dangerous city in Mexico, as well as one of the most dangerous cities in the world
The current homicide rate stands at 134 for a population only hovering around 200,000. Manzanillo was previously known as a tourist destination thanks to its beaches and accessibility, but foreign governments have more recently warned travelers against visiting the state of Colima due to the severe violence present in the region
San Luis lies just south of Yuma
city makes it a prime operating base for local criminal enterprises
Its violent crime rate is currently 128.5 with a population of 209,000
Unlike many dangerous cities in Mexico, Apatzingán is located inland away from the sea or the northern border
as it was where Mexican independence from Spain was officially declared in 1814
Unfortunately, Apatzingán today is the home of competing drug cartels and a major producer of methamphetamine in the region
The current homicide rate 128.3 with 129,000 residents
Temixco is a local manufacturing hub with 126,000 people and was once the site of an internment camp for Japanese immigrants during World War II
The city is also near historical monuments including the architecture of local indigenous tribes
It's also become a hotbed for drug-related violence with a homicide 115 per 100,000 residents
Villa de Álvarez neighbors the Colima capital (listed below) and faces many of the same problems with drug gangs as its sister city
This municipality is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the region
with a homicide rate of 114 for a population of 158,000
The local economy is primarily centered around growing and shipping of fruits
Cuatla, Morelos, was a significant place during the Mexican revolution of the 1910's
as many battles were fought in the surrounding region between Emiliano Zapata's forces and the federal army
Zapata's body was also buried in the city after his assassination in 1919
with a homicide rate 113.1 across a population of 192,000
In historic times, this former Aztec city was a common point of travel for Catholic missionaries
Yautepec also features some of the most moderate climates in Mexico
so it is a frequent site of local festivals and is popular destination for swimming
The rate of violence stands at 97.2 with a population of 108,000
Like Tijuana, Tecate is a popular entry point into Mexico from California and is host to a variety of manufacturing industries including textiles
this city has issues with drug trafficking and violent crime
The current population is 112,000 with a homicide rate of 95.2
with a homicide rate of 91.6 across a population of 108,000
Tijuana is Mexico's second most populous area after Mexico City
Its placement near the border has also made it consistently one of the most violent cities in the country
jobs in industries like automotive manufacturing keep people flocking to Tijuana
and many Americans are likely to pass through the city if entering Mexico by land
This beach town south of Mexico City was once ranked among the top tourist destinations in Mexico thanks to its lavish resorts and cruise ship docks
Its position on Mexico's Pacific coast has also made it a staple of the shipping industry
Unfortunately, recent years have been hard on Acapulco
with cartels installing local criminal markets and would-be tourists warned away from visiting the port city
The homicide rate stands at 74.7 for a population of 789,000
This capital of the state of Colima features shipping ports as well as nearby agricultural industry
These things make the city relevant economically but also make it an opportune place for criminal activity and drug cartel battles
The current homicide rate is 72.2 for a population of 163,000
To track instances of homicide in certain locations
statisticians have come up with a standard known as the homicide rate
which is the number of homicides reported per 100,000 residents over a given period of time
On a national scale, Mexico's homicide rate has pinged up and down
falling throughout the 1990s to a rate roughly comparable to that of the United States
possibly coinciding with increases of opioid and methamphetamine use in the U.S
The rate reached its peak in 2018 with 29.58 homicide deaths per 100,000
and now appears to be slowly dropping once again over the past five years
Violence against women is also a particular concern for the Mexican government, as female victims have proportionally increased 135 percent since 2015
The most likely problems connected to these homicide trends are drug trafficking
money laundering operations and corrupt police forces which are alleged to be under control by organized crime groups
cities in Mexico are often witness to gang violence
Mexico also contains hundreds of more rural areas which are relatively free of local criminal gangs and drug cartel conflict

As the army has driven the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) out of Aguililla
the neighboring state of Colima has seen a surge in violence
killings and kidnappings in and near the city of Colima have sparked panic in the state since Monday
authorities have remained relatively quiet
The first shooting was reported Monday in the Lomas de Vista Hermosa neighborhood of Colima city. The state attorney general’s office (FGE) reported that state police who responded to reports of gunshots found more than 200 bullet casings and two vehicles with bullet impacts
There appear to have been at least three more shootings since Monday in Colima city and the nearby municipalities of Villa de Álvarez and Coquimatlán
according to reporting by Milenio and Infobae
but the FGE has not released any further statements mentioning said shootings
but at least three people had been killed as of Tuesday
On Facebook, the state government has continued to share information about COVID safety and a state volunteer appreciation ceremony with no mention of the violence in the capital as of Thursday morning
while dozens of commenters on the posts requested information about the violence or
a press conference or something to inform the public about the past three days of violence
STOP MINIMIZING!” commented one Facebook user on Wednesday
on the post about the volunteer appreciation ceremony
National Security Minister Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez visited the state for a closed-door meeting with Governor Indira Vizcaíno
Vizcaíno said on Twitter that the purpose of the meeting was to “perfect the coordination between both levels of government and strengthen security strategies,” without mention of the ongoing violence
The commander of the National Guard and navy intelligence personnel were also in attendance
A number of schools closed due to the uncertain security situation
José Martí University announced on Tuesday that in-person classes would be temporarily moved online due to the violence
the University of Colima announced that it would suspend classes on Thursday and Friday
The University of Colima cancellations applied to five municipalities throughout the state and drew greater public attention to the violence the state has experienced since Monday
An anonymous opinion piece published by the state outlet Diario de Colima on Thursday questioned the government’s silence
when a house in the capital was attacked by an armed commando
dismemberments and appearance of menacing messages have come one after another
in the face of the inexplicable paralysis of state and federal authorities,” the unnamed citizen wrote
adding that residents were alarmed and that the gap in information caused by government silence was leading to “rumors
such as the suspension of a number of schools.”
At least four banners signed by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and the criminal group Los Mezcales have appeared since Monday
apparently due to a conflict between the two groups
The banners reference threats to the life of the governor and one
the owners of Colima,” threatened to kill Los Mezcales and anyone associated with them
but their name may be a reference to a Colima city neighborhood
The surge of violence comes two weeks after a Colima prison riot left nine inmates dead
In an interview with Milenio after the riot
Colima Secretary of Public Security Manuel Llerandi Ruiz attributed the riot and deaths to a conflict between CJNG and Los Mezcales
identifying Los Mezcales as a criminal group that had formerly worked for the CJNG

Five plastic bags containing human remains were discovered by Mexican authorities on Saturday in the drug cartel-infested state of Colima
According to Borderland Beat
the plastic bags were found on the Manzanillo highway leading to Armeria
Authorities arrived at the scene after some worried locals called 911 to report what they had observed
State police and the military blocked off the area for additional investigation after confirming that the plastic bags contained human remains
the contents of the plastic bags were delivered to the Semefo branch of the Forensic Medical Service for autopsies and identification
Mexican drug cartels are to blame for the recent rise in violence in the Mexican state of Colima
According to Mexico News Daily
members of the Los Mezcales shifted allegiances from the notorious Sinaloa Cartel to Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera's Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG)
Los Mezcales served as the Jalisco cartel's armed branch in Colima state
But its sicarios made the decision to join forces with the Sinaloa Cartel
In a fight that broke out inside a prison in Colima city last January
members of the two ostensibly allied groups first made their differences known
the brawl claimed the lives of ten inmates and injured another seven
Due to prior evidence linking members of the Jalisco cartel and Los Mezcales to the same criminal organization
more fighting broke out in the streets of Colima City and nearby Villa de Álvarez
The Los Mezcales was established in Colima's El Mezcalito district
which is regarded as a "key point" for the illegal drug trade in the nation's capital
Authorities have not revealed the identity of the man allegedly in charge of the organization; he goes by the names "El Vaca" or "The Cow."
Several prominent public personalities were murdered in the Mexican state of Colima in 2020
further solidifying Colima's status as one of the nation's smallest and deadliest states
There are extremely few people living in Colima
The state is home to less than one million inhabitants
there were 97 killings there per 100,000 people in 2019
which had the second-highest homicide rate that year at 80 per 100,000 people
have homicide rates that are lower than that
This high murder rate would have seemed inconceivable just a few years ago. Colima was previously regarded as one of Mexico's safest states, Insight Crime pointed out
as its murder rate in 2015 was only a third of what it was in 2019
Colima has also discovered several mass graves along with the murder of prominent politicians and other public figures
many of those interred there belonged to victims of violence committed by Mexican drug cartels
The state has a power struggle between the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco Cartel
An image of Hueytlatoani Colimotl features on the obverse side
recognizing the threat presented by the conquistadors
Hueytlatoani Colimotl or Rey Coliman is perhaps a mythical or possibly historical figure who is considered a symbol of the Mexican state of Colima
he was the last emperor of the Tecos people
who inhabited the region which became Colima until the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire
The indigenous forces initially won battles at Trojes
but in 1523 they lost a decisive battle against Gonzalo de Sandoval at Caxitajn
Sandoval immediately established a Spanish settlement
Don Francisco Cortés de San Buenaventura arrived and became the city’s first mayor
San Buenaventura moved the Spanish settlement to its current located and changed the name to San Sebastián de Colima
the construction of a royal road between Colima and Mexico City gave easier access to the village and quickly made Colima a vital centre of commerce
with its central location on the Pacific coast
also played a key role in gathering and transporting goods for the Spanish crown
When the fight for Mexican independence began in 1810
it was the Colima priest Jose Antonio Diaz who led a group of revolutionaries in support of Miguel Hidalgo
A relatively small number of royal troops occupied the region when hostilities began
and they were easily defeated by the rebels
the Plan of Iguala established the basis for an independent Mexico and
when Spain signed the Treaty of Córdoba later that year
Colima and the other Mexican territories formally gained their independence
Colima was made a Mexican state and less than ten years later
moved the seat of government to Colima from 1864 to1867 until the French were driven from power and the capital returned to Mexico City
Colima is a small state of western Mexico on the central Pacific coast
a group of four volcanic islands in the Pacific Ocean located 434 to 679 miles west of Manzanillo
Mainland Colima shares borders with the states of Jalisco and Michoacán
the main cities are Manzanillo and Tecomán
Colima also has the smallest population numbering 731,000
but has one of Mexico's highest standards of living and the lowest rate of unemployment
The 2023-dated circulation quality 20 peso twelve-sided bi-metallic coins are produced bytheCasa de Moneda de Mexico at their facilities located in San Luis Potosí and on behalf of the Banco de Mexico
they are the oldest continuing and functioning mint in North America
The obverse side depicts an image of the King of Coliman
based on the King of Coliman Sculpture created by sculptor Juan F
Olaguibel in 1955 and located at the traffic circle on Avenida Rey Colimán esq
To the right is a replication of the Colima dancing dogs statue
a clay figurine of the Mesoamerica period depicting two dogs
and were often placed in tombs to accompany souls on their journey to heaven
In the background is the silhouette of the Colima volcano and to the left is a latent image 20 and the micro-text COLIMOTL
Surrounding the primary design is the text 500 AÑOS DE LA FUNDACIÓN DE LA PRIMERA VILLA DE COLIMA (500 years of the foundation of the first village of Colima) placed along the rim
The denomination $20 as well as the years 1523 and 2023 are placed below the design along with the distinctive mintmark of the Mexican Mint °M shown to the right of the year of minting
The coins include the standard reverse side design which depicts the National Coat of Arms comprising a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus devouring a rattlesnake in its talon
Above the crest is the text ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS (United Mexican States)
The coins are released in accordance with the Decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on the 22nd March 2024. was in marvellous form as he made seven birdies in a bogey-free round that left him at 17-under for the tournament at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid
Rahm, who attempting to become the first man since Seve Ballesteros in 1995 to win the Spanish Open three times
had a day to forget after he failed to recover from a terrible start
A bogey and double-bogey on the front nine were followed by bogeys on the 11th and 12th for the U.S
who partially recovered with two successful birdie putts in his last five holes
This week is the start of three consecutive events in Spain on the European Tour
with the Spanish Open followed by the Andalucia Masters and the Mallorca Golf Open
Real Madrid will take a 2-1 lead into the the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Atletico Madrid
Superb finishes from Rodrygo and Brahim Diaz, either side of an even better strike from Julian Alvarez
led the European champions to victory at the Bernabeu against their closest rivals
As Atletico looked to be dominating the game in the second half
some Brahim magic restored the hosts’ lead
He twisted and turned before firing into the bottom corner for what turned out to be the winning goal
The second leg will be played 15 kilometres away at the Metropolitano on Wednesday next week

Champions League: Real Madrid 2 Atletico Madrid 1 – Brahim winner
We look forward to welcoming you back to The Athletic in eight days’ time for the second leg of this tie
the two Madrid clubs return to domestic action as they eye the La Liga title
both of them play teams based in the Spanish capital
Atletico make the short trip to face Getafe
Real Madrid host Rayo Vallecano at the Bernabeu
No long trips before the huge second leg at the Metropolitano
How about we doing it all over again tomorrow evening
The undoubted tie of the round is coming tomorrow
as runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool travel to the French capital to face an in-form Paris Saint-Germain
there is an all-German affair and two intriguing ties in Rotterdam and Lisbon
This is interesting from Real Madrid’s opening goalscorer
the forward said Atletico Madrid surprised them in the first half:
💬 “It’s always hard against Atleti but they surprised us a little today
them defending and us needing to watch for counters
they had the ball a lot more than usual and we weren’t accustomed to playing them like that
But in the second half we ‘reset’ and did well
“That goal from Brahim Diaz sends us into next week pretty happy
If we do our work well and we’re concentrated
Real Madrid fans have been piling into The Athletic’s discussion tab
letting us know their thoughts on that first leg tonight:
💬 Aurel G: “It seems that both teams played with the second leg in mind
Let’s see what the game in Metropolitano will bring.”
💬 Daniel T: “That poor Mbappe pass/Vini miss is textbook “You’re going to regret this later on”
Non-subscribers can get involved too by sending us an email: livebloguk@theathletic.com
Conor Gallagher had to settle for a place on the Atletico Madrid bench this evening and wasn’t able to affect the game as he would have liked
Real Madrid are a top team and I think we competed well
We would’ve obviously liked a better result but it’s all to play for in the next leg
“We feel we can beat any team and with our fans behind us as well
Maybe some of the Atletico body language looked downbeat at full time
but they will know they still have a fantastic chance to get through this tie with the second leg at home
💬 “They scored their goals at the right moments
there is a one-goal difference and there are (at least) 90 minutes left in front of our people at home.”
While Rodrygo snapped up the player of the match award
Fede Valverde was arguably Real Madrid’s most important player
As both a solid defensive shield and a foundation for Madrid to build their attacks
Valverde slotted straight back into the side despite not being at full fitness
He was sorely missed in Madrid’s La Liga defeat at the weekend and it is no surprise he was subbed off at the end of the game — presumably to be wrapped in cotton wool
Carlo Ancelotti needs to do everything in his power to keep him in good shape for the second leg in eight days’ time
As Michael’s incisive full-time statistics showed
Real Madrid held their rivals to only two shots on target — one of which was the goal
Both of those only added up to an expected goals figure (xG) of 0.2
Not the entertaining end-to-end match we were hoping for..
though things might open up in the second leg
It’s worth a little reminder that these two will do it all again in eight days’ time — and we'll be covering it live on The Athletic again
Real Madrid will take their 2-1 lead to the Metropolitano
as Atletico Madrid host the second leg of this round of 16 tie
The winner will face Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final — unless PSV can overturn their 7-1 first leg deficit
I’m really not sure stranger things have happened…
Leandro Trossard lookalike Clement Turpin — have they ever been seen in the same room
It’s a heck of a tough assignment for a ref: the white heat of the Madrid derby in the Bernabeu
Just the one yellow card despite 23 fouls between the sides illustrates how he officiated the match conservatively
Plenty of thrills and spills from the other games around the continent
as expected this was a close game and has thrown up the potential for a thrilling second leg
Both sides have plenty of attacking quality
with Real Madrid edging it on the moments that mattered in front of goal
Even for all their stellar attacking prowess
Fede Valverde’s presence in Carlo Ancelotti’s side is what makes them real contenders to win the whole competition
with neither coach taking too many risks in the end game
with a clear feeling that they both expected next week to be decisive
it is advantage Real Madrid now thanks to their 2-1 lead — as well as the weight of history
Brahim Diaz’s goal celebration was a gloriously human explosion of emotion
he picked up a booking for hurdling the advertising hoardings at the side of the pitch and throwing himself into the home fans
It’s exactly what we would do if we scored a goal like that
there wasn’t much between these two when watching them — and the numbers at full time back that up…
High quality in the attacking third from both teams and come the second leg
it really will be fine margins that decide the tie and who makes the quarter-final
Rodrygo joined an elite and exclusive list
He is only the fifth player to score 25 or more goals for Real Madrid in the Champions League era
Quiet satisfaction rather than huge cheers at the Bernabeu at the full-time whistle
Real Madrid fans are very happy with how that went though
even if they’d have preferred Vinicius Junior or Luka Modric to have killed the tie with the late double chance
before quickly heading off down the tunnel looking quite low
Metrics details
This study aimed to evaluate the pneumonia risk based on the patient’s sex during the COVID-19 pandemic and the early months of the endemic phase of the disease in Mexico
A retrospective cohort study was conducted using a dataset resulting from the epidemiological surveillance of COVID-19 (February 2020 to August 2023)
Data from 1.6 million adults with laboratory-positive disease
Risk ratios (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI)
computed through generalized linear regression models
The overall risk of pneumonia was 9.3% (95% CI 9.2–9.4%)
with sex-specific estimates of 7.0% (95% CI 6.9–7.1%) for women and 12.0% (95% CI 11.9–12.1%) for men
This disparity was consistently observed throughout all phases of the pandemic
including the endemic phase of the disease
predominant viral genotype at illness onset and preexisting medical conditions
men had a 3.3% higher risk of severe manifestations when compared to women (RR = 1.033
Our research highlights the potential role of patients’ sex as a factor influencing pneumonia risk during and after the COVID-19 pandemic in Mexico
These findings may provide useful considerations for healthcare planning and policy development focused on addressing the impact of the disease on vulnerable populations
there are not published studies evaluating the effect of the patients’ sex on the risk of COVID-19 related pneumonia encompassing all the emergency phases of the pandemic together with the early endemic phase of the diseases
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of patients’ sex on the risk of developing COVID-19-related pneumonia during the pandemic and the early months of the endemic phase of the disease
this study aims to contribute to the understanding of how sex influences the risk of pneumonia development in COVID-19 patients across different phases of the pandemic
thereby informing clinical practices and enhancing our knowledge of the evolving disease dynamics
Individuals aged 18 years or older at the onset of respiratory symptoms
later confirmed as cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection through reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) or serologic assays
Patients with missing final case classification (confirmed or discarded COVID-19)
as well as those lacking clinical or epidemiological data of interest (e.g.
All patients meeting the eligibility criteria were included
Although the guidelines were updated in August 2021
the criteria for pneumonia diagnosis were retrospectively applied to participants with earlier symptoms to ensure a consistent and uniform approach
as well as other clinical and epidemiological variables
were sourced from the audited surveillance system
Medical records served from the patients as the primary data source for this system
We used Risk Ratios (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI)
estimated using log-binominal generalized linear regression models
to evaluate the effect of patient sex on the risk of being diagnosed with COVID-19-related pneumonia
The multiple model was adjusted for relevant clinical predictors
predominant SARS-CoV-2 genotype at illness onset
and comorbidities (present/absent) included in the evaluated dataset (obesity
The analytical procedure was conducted using the statistical package Stata® MP 15 (College Station
Since we analyzed publicly available data solely for academic purposes
ethics approval from a research committee was waived
as well as the waiver for obtaining written informed consent to participate
was provided by the Committee of Ethics in Health Research 601 of the Mexican Institute of Social Security
we adhered to relevant data protection regulations and guidelines to ensure responsible and ethical data use
Data from approximately 1.6 million (n = 1,640,256) adult participants with laboratory confirmed COVID-19 were analyzed. Most of the evaluated patients (53.7%) were women, and the mean age (± standard deviation) was 43.6 ± 15.7 years. As presented in Table 1
individuals diagnosed with pneumonia were more likely to be men and exhibit any of the chronic comorbidities examined
Sex-stratified risk of developing pneumonia according to the dominant SARS-CoV-2 variant at the date of symptom onset
In the multiple analysis (Table 2)
it was observed that when compared to women
men exhibited a 3.3% increased risk of developing pneumonia (RR = 1.033
This estimate was adjusted for the dominant SARS-CoV-2 variant and other patient characteristics associated with more severe COVID-19
a personal history of chronic kidney disease was found to confer the highest increase in the risk of pneumonia (RR = 1.166
The highest η2 estimate was associated with the dominant SARS-CoV-2 genotype (0.058)
the influence of a personal history of arterial hypertension had the lowest estimate (0.001)
underlining its comparatively modest impact on pneumonia risk
signifying a moderate contribution of age to the variance in pneumonia risk
The presented results suggest sex-based disparities in pneumonia risk along the entire emergency of the COVID-19 pandemic and the first months of the endemic phase of the disease
men were at a higher risk of developing pneumonia (RR = 1.033
The observed difference may have implications for public health strategies and clinical management
highlighting the need for tailored approaches to address the specific risk profiles of both sexes
rather than providing a comprehensive evaluation across all phases of the disease
These sex specific ACE2 expression patterns could contribute to differences in viral infectivity and the severity of the ensuing disease
Policies promoting high vaccination coverage and timely booster shots for all individuals
Strengthening chronic disease management programs
particularly for individuals with kidney disease
could potentially reduce the risk of severe COVID-19 complications
This provides data on the differential impact of COVID-19 on pneumonia risk based on sex
further research can expand our understanding in areas such as gaining a deeper insight into the biological mechanisms associated with the risk of pneumonia in women and men
the impact of future genomic variants of SARS-CoV-2 on pneumonia risk
sex-specific preventative and treatment strategies tailored towards the higher risk population
The strengths of this study include the analysis of a database containing data from all public and private healthcare institutions across Mexico
which enhances the potential generalizability of our results to the entire country
we analyzed patients from all the emergency phases of the pandemic
providing a broad background for risk quantification
We would also like to highlight that our study aligns with several Social Development Goals (SDGs)
Understanding the differential pneumonia risk in men and women could contribute to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by informing targeted healthcare interventions
Our results emphasize the importance of data-driven healthcare planning and policy development
aligning with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)
The presented results underscore the need for collaborative efforts between healthcare professionals
and researchers to address health disparities and improve health outcomes for all populations
The combined effects of vaccination efforts
increasing rates of individuals with protective levels of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies
and the implementation of non-pharmacological interventions were factors that contributed to the observed reduction in pneumonia risk
since we analyzed an already integrated and fully de-identified dataset
we were unable to perform quality control measures
we assumed that each participant was infected by a specific COVID-19 variant based on the epidemiological week of patient-reported symptoms
our analysis focused on pneumonia risk as an intermediate outcome
Discrepancies between these two healthcare environments may arise from variations in resource availability and access to timely interventions
potentially limiting the generalizability of the study findings and serving as a source of bias
Our research emphasizes the role of patient’s sex in determining the risk of pneumonia among patients diagnosed with COVID-19 during both the peak of the pandemic and its early transition to an endemic state
Our findings suggest that patient sex may be a relevant factor to consider in healthcare planning and policy development
Given the observed differences in pneumonia risk between men and women
future strategies might benefit from focusing on targeted interventions for populations that may be at higher risk

The Colima-Guadalajara highway will be completed and inaugurated this year
shortening travel times between the state capital and Guadalajara
President López Obrador said during a visit to Colima on Sunday
Colima city and the Jalisco state capital are only some 180 kilometers apart
but travel times remain unpredictable on a road which connects one of Mexico’s most important cities to its biggest Pacific port in Manzanillo
“The construction began in 2013 and was suspended when we arrived to government
It will be inaugurated in December and it will provide a time saving of at least 30 minutes” between Colima city and Guadalajara
talking alongside Colima Governor Indira Vizcaíno and Jalisco Governor Alfaro Ramírez
Vizcaíno thanked the president for focusing on the project which had seen long delays
The president also announced the modernization of the Armería-Manzanillo aqueduct
the expansion of the Colima-Manzanillo highway to six lanes
and the rehabilitation of roads connecting the state’s 10 municipalities
López Obrador’s tour of Colima started on Saturday with a visit to health infrastructure in Villa de Álvarez
He promised 24-hour healthcare and announced 55 Cuban healthcare specialists would come to work in the state
Vizcaíno said the previous state government had abandoned its duties in healthcare
“We received a system in ruins with grave shortage problems
installations in terrible conditions and broken equipment
took office in November after 72 years of uninterrupted Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) governance

Many states will be alcohol-free on both Saturday and Sunday
a longstanding practice used to maintain order during elections
here’s a rundown of where alcohol sales will be banned and when
according to various sources gathered by Mexico News Daily
A surge in violence in Colima – including numerous murders between Monday and Friday last week – is the result of a scission between the Independent Cartel of Colima
and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG)
Government sources who spoke with the newspaper said that Los Mezcales had acted as the armed wing of the CJNG in the small Pacific coast state
but its sicarios decided to switch allegiances to the Sinaloa Cartel
The first manifestation of the split was a brawl in late January between CJNG and Independent Cartel members imprisoned at a prison in Colima city
Ten inmates were killed and seven others were injured
The feuding inmates were housed together because they previously identified as belonging to the same criminal group
Violence subsequently broke out on the streets of Colima city and the neighboring municipality of Villa de Álvarez
on which the CJNG and Los Mezcales threatened each other and Governor Indira Vizcaíno
have appeared in the Colima city-Villa de Álvarez metropolitan area
After days of silence
the Colima Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported last Friday that police were investigating crimes including homicide and attempted murder committed last week in Colima city
the FGE acknowledged 15 murders or discoveries of bodies between Monday and Friday of last week
It said that additional human remains were found in two different locations last Tuesday but didn’t specify the number of victims
and noted that six people were wounded in armed attacks and one person was abducted
The FGE also said that two people were arrested in possession of firearms last Tuesday
It said the spate of violence was the result of a dispute between criminal groups
but didn’t specifically mention the CJNG or Los Mezcales
The former is one of the two most powerful cartels in Mexico, the other being the Sinaloa Cartel. The CJNG’s leader, Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, is a wanted man both here and in the United States
Los Mezcales was formed in and takes its name from Mezcalito
a Colima city neighborhood known for crime and described by Milenio as one of the “key points” for the distribution of drugs in the capital
The gang is led by a man known as “El Vaca” (The Cow)
whose identity hasn’t been disclosed by authorities
With reports from Milenio
Edible Monterey Bay
It means “heritage” and it’s always been a vital ingredient at Villa Azteca in Oldtown Salinas
Now chef-owner Susana Alvarez and her family will bring their signature slant on Mexican cuisine to Carmel with the arrival of Nicolás Cocina de Herencia.
The new restaurant will open on the ground floor of the Carmel Plaza in the space vacated by Sur La Table
just next door to Alvarado Street Brewery & Bistro
Alvarez marries traditional Mexican recipes with a modern flair for technique and presentation
It’s a recipe that has won the restaurant fans from across Monterey County
Villa Azteca was one of the most popular openings of 2019
managing brisk business for takeout and outdoor dining
Alvarez welcomes diners to explore Mexico’s rich and varied cuisine

Design plans submitted to the Carmel Planning Commission call for a dining room that seats 50—including flexible space to accommodate a private party
He saved up enough money to return to Mexico and purchase land to establish an organic farm
his produce was distributed across the country and even to the United States
After Nicolás married his wife Maria de Jesus
his father—Alvarez’s abuelito—shared the family’s closely guarded recipes with his new daughter-in-law
Maria de Jesus found a passion for cooking
developing her own recipes showcasing the produce grown on her husband’s ranch
That ethos inspired Alvarez’s commitment to sourcing
which has become a hallmark of her cuisine at Villa Azteca
The heritage kitchen will celebrate three generations of family recipes
“the wonderful flavors of our family.” Chef Alvarez plans a menu celebrating the cuisine of her hometown in Michoacán
with dishes drawn from her extensive travels across Mexico
The sample menu provided to the planning commission teases duck with red pipian (ground peppers and seeds) and gorditas stuffed with huitlacoche at dinner
cauliflower tacos and shrimp tetelas at lunch
and cazuela de huevo (baked egg) and enmoladas (mole enchiladas) at breakfast
At the presentation to the Carmel Planning Commission
Adi promised “unique cuisine for a unique and special village.”
Also expect Villa Azteca’s signature flair for presentation and commitment to attentive service and hospitality at Nicolás
An opening date for the new project has not been set yet
Villa Azteca joins a number of Salinas’ hospitality heavyweights in opening a new location close to the coast
Humberto Maravilla brought a third outpost for his family’s popular La Casa Del Sazón to Monterey with the opening of Sazón Express last year
the Moncada family—who opened popular burrito shop El Charrito—will debut Alejandro’s
a new upscale Mexican restaurant arriving on Alvarado Street in the location vacated by PALOOZA
And Nicolás won’t be the only new addition coming to the Carmel Plaza either
The shopping center will soon welcome Carmel Burger Bar
Owner Janice Albright—a veteran of restaurants in the South Bay
including Big Basin Burger Bar in Saratoga and RELISH Kitchen + Drink in Gilroy—plans a new spot to showcase burgers with a globally inspired flair
Carmel Burger Bar will open in the space previously home to Bistro Beaujolais

Start off with some of Colima’s famous appetizers like tacos tuxpeños

Sopitos are small ground beef sopes on fried tortillas loosely covered in shredded cabbage
generously—that’s the Colima way
Colima is also home to special enchilada dishes: enchiladas dulces are corn tortillas filled with a picadillo of ground meat and fruit that’s finished by covering of a sweet mole of chile guajillo
The enchiladas rojas—called enchiladas saladas or savory enchiladas—are so named to distinguish them from the more popular sweet variety
On the weekends, there’s a serious menudo blanco, or white menudo decked out with pork snout, feet, tongue, leg, and spine and perhaps we might even see pozole seco, the Coliman dry pozole that’s pure substance separated from the stock. It’s the dish to fuel a night of dancing at Don Comalón

Atletico Madrid President Reignites Debate Over Julian Alvarez Penalty: "No Double Touch Visible"Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo criticized the use of VAR following the controversial decision in the Champions League clash against Real Madrid
where a penalty scored by Julian Alvarez was disallowed
Speaking at the presentation of the IX Vicente del Bosque Youth Tournament in Villa de Alalpardo
Cerezo was outspoken about the incident that sparked debate:
“There are 50,000 photos and videos of the penalty
and there’s no sign of a double touch or anything
Either the referee or the VAR made it up,” he said
He also reiterated his disapproval of video review technology:
It’s a tool that doesn’t fulfill its purpose
UEFA reportedly sanctioned the VAR official in that match
“Whether he’s sanctioned or not doesn’t matter to us
The controversial call occurred during the penalty shootout that decided the Champions League Round of 16
ruling he had touched the ball twice after slipping
Cerezo also addressed Atletico Madrid’s domestic campaign in LaLiga EA Sports
saying the team still believes in its title chances:
Atletico currently sits third in the table with 60 points
seven behind leaders Barcelona and three behind second-placed Real Madrid

Phil Foden’s dazzling hat-trick vindicated Pep Guardiola’s gamble to bench Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne as Manchester City ran out 4-1 winners over Aston Villa
Sunday’s goalless draw against Arsenal
which left City third in the table behind the Gunners and Liverpool
saw Haaland and De Bruyne below their best but it still represented a huge call
for which Guardiola held a packed schedule that sees his team travel to Crystal Palace at 12:30 BST on Saturday accountable
But the Catalan tactician has another match-winner of world-class credentials
who produced his latest statement performance to ensure Wednesday closed with one point separating the Premier League’s top three
Julian Alvarez and Foden led the City attack and helped to inspire an effervescent opening
Jack Grealish – bizarrely booed by the away supporters as he faced his former club – teed up Argentina forward Alvarez to blaze an early effort into the side netting
Rodri opens the scoring at the Etihad for Manchester City!

Slick, precise and typically Man City! 🔥
Rodri gives the champions the lead! 🤩
📺 @tntsports & @discoveryplusUK pic.twitter.com/9GRcTc8W6r
also began brightly and Rodri fired home the Belgium winger’s low cross to put the hosts in front
It amounted to a sub-optimal start for an injury-hit Villa
who were without Emiliano Martinez after their first-choice goalkeeper was taken ill during the warmup
But Unai Emery’s Champions League chasers grew into the contest and were good value for a wonderfully worked equaliser
where Jhon Duran exchanged passes with former City youngster Morgan Rodgers to dispatch a cool finish beyond Stefan Ortega
Grealish lost his cool as he was booked for dissent shortly after sending a bouncing volley over
drawing a fine save from Villa keeper Robin Olsen following a give-and-go with Rico Lewis
After seeing his depleted side go toe-to-toe with the champions
Unai Emery will have been seething at the manner of Foden’s first goal
Douglas Luiz’s clumsy foul on the edge of the box was avoidable but the real culprit was Nicolo Zaniolo
who broke off the end of the wall to let the England attacker’s attempt fizz into the net
FANTASTIC FODEN! 💪
A brilliant free kick puts the Citizens back in front! pic.twitter.com/vT115LHZ8e
Phil Foden. What a player! 💥
That's 1⃣9⃣ goals this season for the Englishman! 🔥
📺 @tntsports & @discoveryplusUK pic.twitter.com/lAxmALtrsr
Olsen continued to ensure Martinez wasn't unduly missed with excellent stops to thwart Doku and Bernardo Silva early in the second period
Villa retained their threat on the break and Olsen’s opposite number Ortega had to push over from Douglas Luiz and denied Clement Lenglet from the resulting corner
After such nervy moments in must-win games
the greats customarily step forward to settle the argument
Foden has all the ability and aspiration to reach such lofty heights and the 23-year-old irresistibly took centre stage
Rodri bustled forward with balletic close control
helping the ball on for Foden to clip home his 20th goal of the season from just inside the box
His hat-trick goal carried shades of another of English football’s standout talents of this century
There was something of Wayne Rooney’s anger-imbued volley about a stunning finish
Foden seemed irked that he was not awarded a foul after taking a tumble under a challenge from Lenglet
With some assistance from the ever-tenacious Alvarez
he sprung up to dispossess substitute Calum Chambers and lash into the top corner
PHIL FODEN STUNNER TO COMPLETE HIS HAT TRICK.
SIMPLY UNSTOPPABLE. 🔥 pic.twitter.com/goQym1cqqA
Simply sensational! 🤩
Phil Foden wins the ball back in Villa's final third and rockets it in for the hat-trick! 🚀
📺 @tntsports & @discoveryplusUK pic.twitter.com/uYf9fUoSfm
Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Luton Town means they are top for now
with Liverpool expected to assume that position when they face bottom club Sheffield United on Thursday
But City remain firmly in the hunt after Foden sent the emphatic message that his boyhood club are going nowhere in this three-pronged title tussle
MORE: Man City Premier League schedule: Remaining fixtures, points prediction
City boss Pep Guardiola sprung a huge surprise when he benched Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne
leaving Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden to supply the central attacking threat
Guardiola was still without captain Kyle Walker due to injury and Stefan Ortega filled in for Ederson between the posts once again
after being forced off in the draw with Arsenal
John McGinn missed out as he served the final game of a three-match ban
Matty Cash was sidelined with a thigh problem and Unai Emery was also without top scorer Ollie Watkins
Goalkeeper Emilano Martinez compounded Emery's fitness woes when he pulled out due to illness during the warmup
meaning a second Premier league start of the season for Robin Olsen
Aston Villa (4-4-2 right to left): Olsen (GK) — Konsa

Gustavo Alvarez, a licensed engineer, knew he might find problems at the Villa Del Sol condominium complex in St
Lucie County when he entered crawlspaces of several buildings on the morning of Aug
But nothing prepared him for what he was about to see
Conditions were so bad in three of the six buildings that he made a 911-type call to the county fire marshal calling for an immediate evacuation: The buildings were in danger of collapsing
County officials moved quickly to issue an evacuation order
Villa Del Sol is located just north of the Jensen Beach Causeway
grab whatever you can and try to get out as fast as possible,” resident Eric Johnson said
The inspection might never have happened had it not been part of a new state law, SB 4-D, designed to ensure the safety of condo buildings. It was adopted after the deadly collapse of the Champlain Tower South in Surfside that killed 98 people in 2021
The law requires a "milestone inspection" or an initial Phase One inspection of each building with a height of three stories or more by Dec
in which the building reaches 30 years of age
The law also requires a Structural Integrity Reserve Study (SIRS) to determine what short-term and long-range repairs are necessary
It no longer allows an association to waive setting up financial reserves for those future repairs
Johnson and his family are struggling to cope with the fallout of the evacuation order
He managed to find a rental unit in one of the Villa del Sol buildings that was found to be safe
paying a mortgage and condo fees on the one he had to leave and rent on the unit where he is now living
Repairs to his building may not be done until at least April
And Johnson says the property management company has said that the repairs could cost as much as $9.2 million to be split among 72 homeowners
Johnson said he was given that estimate of $9.2 million in costs from the property's management and it would cost nearly $173,000 per homeowner
"I cannot afford that and most of the other folks here cannot either," Johnson said
I have a disabled wife and a 13-year-old child
We had no idea there were any issues when we bought in 2017
Who knows how long we were in an unsafe building
At least we got out before something terrible happened.”
WHY WE WROTE THE STORY: 117,375 page views on a letter to the editor caught Palm Beach Post's attention
the December initial inspection found structural problems that called for immediate shoring
which gives credence to the argument that the building might have been unsafe at that point
Johnson is already dealing with a $43,000 special assessment that was recently levied on owners at Villa del Sol for repairs unrelated to the Phase Two inspection
One of the options owners may have to consider is selling out to a developer
Recent condo buyers like the Johnsons are likely to be the most affected by the fallout from the new law
Older buyers benefited from deferred repairs that resulted in lower fees
They also bought at a time before prices surged
a court-appointed receiver is looking to sell off Heron Pond
after city officials determined the complex was so unsafe that everyone had to evacuate by Aug
Fences surround the nine-building complex and signs warn people not to enter
threatening anyone who does with trespassing charges
Engineering reports found substantial water damage and termite activity
Recently repaired sections showed new signs of deterioration at the 36-year-old complex
whose 83-year-old mother had to move in with his brother
"The HOA collected money all these years and did not do what they should have done — maintain the complex."
a resident of the complex for the past 19 years
said the city is helping people out by paying the first and last month's rent and security for a rental but she said she cannot afford to pay rent and also keep up with the expenses on the unit she had to leave
"It is just a matter of time before I become a homeless person," she said
The receiver presented an option to owners at Heron Pond — sell or pay a $40,000 special assessment to make the buildings safe
Most of the owners who participated in a poll voted to sell
Another evacuation order was issued in Fort Lauderdale after inspectors concluded that the 18-unit Springbrook Gardens condo was unsafe to live in
forcing them to find a new place on short notice
State Rep. Vicki Lopez
is concerned that some of the affordable-housing type condo buildings like Heron Pond will be converted into high-end units
which would exacerbate the state's housing affordability issue
"This is an issue that needs to be addressed," she said
noting that other counties might consider doing what Miami-Dade County has done
establish a low-interest loan program to help owners stay in their homes
She recommends that no one buy a condo until at least 2026 when a clearer picture will develop as to what type of repair bill a condo building is facing
THE CONDO CRISIS: Is it bad enough to call a special legislative session?
THE CONDO CRISIS: In three Palm Beach County communities, big issues = high assessments
THE CONDO CRISIS: A checklist of what condos need to know about the new law and how it will affect Floridians
The Florida condo crisis: What are engineer looking for during the inspection process?
similar problems are showing up in Southwest Florida
four buildings at Country Club Manor have required Phase Two reports
Phase One reports have been completed for about 150 buildings
The owners of two of those condo buildings in East Naples have received violation notices for failing to file Phase Two reports within the required timeline
How do the Florida condo inspections work and what is the timeline? How many other buildings throughout Florida have been found to be unsafe
There are 411 municipalities in the state and 67 counties
Almost all have their own building official who is supposed to receive Phase One and Phase Two inspection reports
There is no statewide agency collecting data
the state Division of Florida Condominiums must create a database of associations that have completed the SIRS but there is no requirement to track results of Phase Two inspections or evacuated buildings
The quality of the inspections range from thorough to skimpy
The Phase One report for Villa del Sol was 54 pages and it included 84 pictures with details attached to each of them
often submitted one-paragraph reports for several buildings at Century Village in West Palm Beach simply saying that a building was in "good condition." The language used was often identical for different buildings
Twomey failed to use the state-mandated checklist
County Building Official Doug Wise refused to accept the reports
instructing Twomey to submit more detailed findings
The initial Phase One inspections are not due until the end of the year and many have yet to be completed
They are designed to indicate whether a more detailed intrusive Phase Two inspection is needed
Most Phase Two inspections have yet to begin
in the unincorporated area of Palm Beach County
24 buildings were scheduled to undergo Phase Two inspections
the type of inspection that resulted in Villa del Sol being evacuated
There are not enough qualified engineers or architects available to do the inspections
Lopez represents a Miami district with more than 600 condo associations that contain more than 45,000 units
She believes that two-thirds of them will fail to meet the Dec
a Miami-based real estate consultancy firm
said engineers and architects are charging as much as $100,000 for inspections and often are not available to do the work for six months
Out-of-state firms are relocating to Florida
According to the Florida Division of Condominiums
there are 24,309 condo projects in the state; 44% of them are in either Miami-Dade
Broward or Palm Beach counties but not all of them are subject to the new state law
Condo associations affected by the law have turned to banks to finance the special assessments
First Vice President of Valley National Bank
has been lending money to condos for more than 15 years and has made loans in the past year in Florida ranging from $15,000 to $15 million
"We have made more loans in the past 12 months than we ever have," he said
"It is about double what it was in previous years and we have turned down more loans than we granted
We have tried to stretch it out as much as possible to reduce the pain."
The new Florida condo laws: How did we get this point?Far too many condo associations failed to fund their reserves
The new law requires that a SIRS study be done to identify what long-term maintenance is needed — whether
That is on top of the expensive Phase One and Phase Two inspections and insurance premiums that have skyrocketed
Residents of Regency Gardens Condominiums In Orlando are facing special assessments of as much as $20,000 to fully fund their reserves
Many residents say they cannot afford to pay it
And condo owners at Surfside South Club in Ormond Beach in Volusia County are facing special assessments of more than $100,000 to pay for needed repairs
Redfin analyzed HOA fees across the country
it found that some of the steepest increases occurred in Florida
Zalewski of Condo Vultures said the wounds are self-inflicted
The condo associations caved into pressure from owners who did not want to pay for needed repairs
and now they are paying — or will be paying — the price
Lopez said everything does not have to be paid for at once
(then the association) would have to set aside $100,000 for next 10 years
What has happened in the past is they simply kicked the can down the road to avoid necessary repairs
We know it is difficult for a lot of people but the Legislature rightfully decided that it never again wanted to see another Surfside in Florida."
fearful of how much the repair bills might be
There has been a sharp increase in terminations
a process that allows condo owners to terminate a condominium's status
It is often a prelude to selling to a developer
but it can also occur because owners cannot afford to make the required repairs to ensure the building’s safety
The billionaire Ansin family that owns WSVN-Channel 7 recently bought the 72-year-old Treasure Island Cove Condominium
a 24-unit complex in North Bay Village in Miami-Dade County
The South Florida Business Journal reported that each owner will receive $333,333
or about three times the market value based on estimates by the county property appraiser
The unit owners were facing a significant assessment to pay for needed repairs
What has been the impact on condo values?Craig Studnicky of ISG World
a South Florida real estate consulting firm headquartered in Aventura
said almost no one is buying condos 30 years or older in Palm Beach
resulting in prices of those units surging while those at older buildings are plunging
More than 80% of all condos listed for sale in South Florida in the first quarter were in buildings that are over 30 years old
units less than 10 years old have risen in value by 9% while those older than 30 years have fallen 21%
Buyers — not knowing what the inspections are going to show and how high special assessments will be — are afraid to buy in older buildings."
Batista Engineering & Construction in Fort Lauderdale
said he feels empathy for middle- and lower-income owners of condo units
Many of the beachfront condo owners can afford to pay those high special assessments but the ones on fixed incomes cannot
"I'm hearing from people on a daily basis," he said
Many of them are living off Social Security
They cannot afford a $30,000 special assessment
Some of those people are just walking away
has done more than 200 Phase One inspections
He noted that about 90% have not resulted in a recommendation for a Phase Two inspection
Some of the issues with buildings that have not been maintained include the need for concrete restoration
noting that the biggest takeaway is that coastal buildings have not been sealed properly
stucco gets unglued and moisture runs behind it
the stability of the building can be affected
Howard Konetz, faced with a $224,000 special assessment at Mediterranean Village in Aventura
He paid nearly $500,000 for it 10 years ago
improvements to its elevators and repairs to its concrete base
He told WPLG-TV in Miami that he was turned down for a reverse mortgage
Fourteen of the 105 units in his building are for sale; four more are for rent as of Aug
At the Cricket Cub in Miami
owners have been called on to pay $38,000 a year for four years or $152,000 to make structural repairs
upgrade landscaping and install a new roof
"It has devastated sales," said Peter Byfield
a Realtor who has a sale at Cricket Club pending for $195,000
1,930 square-foot unit would have sold for $600,000."
safe building with state-of-the-art facilities
Buyers should know what they are getting into."
Ron DeSantis are under pressure to hold a special session to deal with the unintended consequences of the new law
Legislative leaders are cool to the idea but have committed to considering changes to the law later this year or in early 2025

A moderate magnitude 4.4 earthquake hit 17.4 km (11 mi) away from Colima, Estado de Colima, Mexico
2024 at 1.29 pm local time (America/Mexico City GMT -6)
The quake had a very shallow depth of 27 km (17 mi) and was felt widely in the area
The shallow depth of the quake caused it to be felt more strongly near the epicenter than a deeper quake of similar magnitude would
Another weekend of bloodshed hit Mexico's Colima State as the Jalisco cartel
and Los Mezcales cartel continued to fight for control of territory
According to Daily Star
several deaths were reported in Coloma as violent attacks and executions continued amid the two Mexican drug cartels' turf war
One of the notable deaths recorded included the discovery of a corpse inside a plastic garbage bag
The waste disposal bag with the human body was found outside a home in Villa de Alvarez in Colima last weekend
shootouts reportedly occurred in a nearby neighborhood of Juan José Ríos
where gunmen opened fire out of a car window
and another was injured and rushed to a hospital
The man sustained multiple wounds over various parts of his body
Another shootout broke out in Villa de Alvarez that resulted in a man being shot in the head
Coloma saw a Molotov cocktail thrown at a truck
another man in the Alfredo V Bonfil neighborhood in Villa de Álvarez was reportedly injured from flying shrapnel after armed men on a motorcycle opened fire at him
Colima is commonly used as a drug smuggling route to the United States
Colima is not the only Jalisco cartel-plagued state. The Daily Star reported that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel or Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) have issued a warning to Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla of Mexico's state of Michoacan
alleged members of the Jalisco cartel told Bedolla that they were "coming after everyone," and asked him to disarm "fake Self Defence Forces" and the rival gang "Los Viagras," who are allied with United Cartels
The Jalisco Cartel accused the governor of not fulfilling his agreement to disarm self-defense groups and rivals as they pose in the video holding firearms
The cartel also claimed that the state government was receiving money from their rivals and blamed officials for ruining Michoacan
"Stop supporting them by sending the government to attack us
This also goes out to all the mayors supporting these f***ing thieves
Do your jobs and don't receive money from them," the CJNG members said in the video translated by Borderland Beat
the Jalisco cartel said the state "is now full of homicides
Governor don't support these scumbags anymore..
Don't forget the arrangement you had with us
Get back to doing your job and start cleaning your name and state," the CJNG noted
The Jalisco New Generation Cartel is considered one of Mexico's most dangerous and powerful drug cartels
The Jalisco cartel had risen to power after Mexican security forces killed former Sinaloa cartel capo Ignacio Coronel in July 2010
Two groups fought for control of the drug trafficking in Jalisco state upon Coronel's death
The Torcidos and La Resistencia were the two factions that fought
The Torcidos now became the Jalisco cartel and rose as the successors to the Sinaloan cap's network in the region, according to an InsightCrime report
Nemesio "El Mencho" Oseguera is currently leading the Jalisco cartel
government has offered a $10 million reward for information leading to his arrest as he continues to evade capture
has offered a reward of 30 million pesos or US$1.6 million
