During a special operation conducted by members of the Mexican Army and the National Guard, a total of 78 public servants—including local police officers and politicians—have been arrested as of Jan. 24 at the Villafores and Villacorzo municipalities, in the Mexican state of Chiapas
The arrests come after the suspects were linked to a extortion network that operates in the rural region located less than 60 miles from Tuxtla Gutiérrez
Among those detained were Xochitl Castañón Burguete
transit director of the Villaflores municipality
municipal secretary René Madariaga and María del Carmen Méndez Moreno
a former leader of a moto taxi association
Authorities believe these three individuals led a "gang dedicated to extort business owners
ranchers and transportation workers," Chiapas Attorney General Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca said
Madariaga was the one responsible for meeting with potential victims
and allegedly asked them to deposit a fee of about $8 every week directly into Méndez Moreno's account
victims were allegedly at risk of being kidnapped or killed
located less than a 15-minute car drive south of Villaflores
Army and National Guard personnel raided multiple properties that belonged to public servants
26 municipal police officers were arrested
said all 39 municipal officers in Villaflores are being investigated
including the chief of police identified as José Gregorio Cedeño
who was previously sentenced for homicide and drug trafficking charges under a fake name
78 public servants have been arrested in Chiapas
including a former member of the Chiapas Attorney General's office that was allegedly in charge of the extortion network
Aparicio also revealed that authorities will continue with their investigations
as they are aware of more alleged corruption cases among public servants in the area

the Lady Pirates were able to force another deadlock at 20-all.
The Lady Chiefs responded with a 4-0 run fueled by Villaflores and capped by a service ace from Catherine Domasig that made it a 24-20 cushion for Arellano.

There were three celebrities Tuesday night at the Walmart in South Reno: Santa Claus
You can guess who gave out the most autographs
Hint: It wasn't Santa or the sheriff.
a witty 10-year-old from Miguel Sepulveda Elementary School in Sparks
Renner ruffled Villaflores's hair and kept sifting through the Avengers selection in the toy aisle
throwing in the cart a small action figure based on Renner's Avengers character
more than 200 volunteer shoppers paired with 250 underprivileged children selected by the Washoe County School District and local nonprofit social services for the Shop with the Sheriff event
Each child was given a $200 spending allowance
which they used to purchase clothes and toys for themselves or their families alongside a volunteer from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office or the Washoe County Honorary Deputy Sheriff's Association
Renner, who became an honorary Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputy in 2018
was one of the volunteers dodging in and out of the aisles of video games and puffy coats
Whispers of "Hawkeye" and "that famous guy" trailed him from shoppers and Walmart staff alike
but Renner carried on with Villaflores without notice of the stir that followed him around

Renner is becoming a regular in Reno's give-back community

Billboard Philippines lists down our wishlist for collaborations between artists outside Metro Manila
By Kara Angan
regional music scenes are thriving with new and established artists across all genres
Each artist puts their own spin to the sounds that we’re all familiar — making music with their own languages and experiences
With there being no shortage of excellent musicians
it can’t be helped to make a wishlist of superstar collaborations that we want to see in the future
this is Billboard Philippines‘ wishlist for Filipino collaborations that we want to happen
FELIP was born and raised in Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur
he pays tribute to his heritage with “MICTEST,” which is written in Bisaya
Cookie$’ melodic style of rapping and FELIP’s aggressive and raspy vocals make this duo a perfect match for a hip-hop track
but a combination of the two can create a song that has different textures of sound
The collaboration can go either way — we can see a louder side of dwta if she leans into the rock style
or a softer version of Dilaw as they transform dwta’s acoustic style of music into something fuller
A collaboration between these two acts can bring out versions of the artists that we haven’t seen before
Both Dom Guyot and Paul Pablo have made waves for their vivid and artistic approach to both R&B and pop music
The pair have equally rich and impressive voices
and put together could make a powerful combination not just musically
While Dom Guyot’s signature style is more slowed down and mellow
Paul Pablo’s upbeat sound could create a great mash-up that showcases both artists’ vocal prowess
ensuring that these two acts could blow us all away with their unique spin on a new R&B and hip-hop track
Folk pop outfits Joseph Gara and Oh! Caraga are mainstays in the Visayan pop scene
regularly performing at the Visayas Pop Music Festival
Gara’s soulful voice and award-winning songwriting skills mesh well with Oh
this collaboration is something that everyone would look forward to
You can’t talk about Bisaya hip-hop without paying respect to the OGs — Midnasty and Delinquent Society
it’s only right that these two groups should come together for a powerhouse collaboration
These two groups have a wide range of techniques and sounds when it comes to hip-hop
making it exciting to see which subgenre of hip-hop they would make if ever they decided to collaborate with each other
“Vispop Princess” Jewel Villaflores and chart-topper TJ Monterde individually make music that would just gel well together
they pour their hearts into creating soulful pop hits
A collaboration between the two would definitely be as memorable and catchy as their own individual work

The nursing profession was celebrated with joy by her parents Cayo Villaflores and Dolores Torrillo when she graduated from Silliman University in Dumaguete City
would have come to envision that there was far more in store for me throughout my life which began with the compassion and caring commitment to humanity

“In the course of our transportation business
there were numerous opportunities such as providing jobs to people and witnessing the realities of life for people who helped us in our business
I have witnessed first-hand my employees’ struggles with their own lives as they continued to help us succeed in our business
I became so involved with their worries as well as their successes realizing that I was and I am a big part of their lives,” she said
her philanthropic works include health services
She sought more ways to help in her capacity and sponsored a group of physicians and surgeons from Pennsylvania
USA to come and perform surgery to the needy families with children who had cleft lip and cleft palate
“That was a very rewarding mission as I saw the happy faces of children who were once withdrawn and shy because of their deformity
I am merely a vehicle for the Almighty God’s work here on earth
I supported education by providing buildings and educational resources to schools and colleges and funding the education of underprivileged children as I believe that through education
they will have a bright future and will be able to become better citizens of this country,” she said
She added that everyday there was something for her to do
the business aspect was a major role for her but the humanity aspect was even a bigger role because human lives are at stake and that is precious
“I speak for the past and the present because I feel and I know that I am needed here in this life to serve humanity
all amounts to loving and serving humanity with compassion and caring
touching people’s lives as I am there for them in God’s will
and committed to my life’s work,” the Yanson matriarch said./PN

Arellano University recovered from two sets down to gut out a 25-17
15-12 win against San Sebastian College-Recoletos in the NCAA Season 99 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre
The Lady Chiefs stared at a 1-2 set deficit but got their act together in the fourth and deciding set to secure their first back-to-back wins of the season and improve to 3-2
fell short of their breakthrough to go 0-5
San Sebastian was on the verge of its first-ever victory in Season 99 when Tina Marasigan nailed back-to-back attacks that handed them a 23-22 lead in the fourth set
a crucial call on Moming Padillon's attack tied things up before she hammered another one through to bring Arellano to the set point.
Dodee Batindaan then took advantage of an overpass from Juna Gonzales to force an extension.
Errors hounded the Lady Stags in the endgame with two consecutive infractions from their side giving Arellano a pivotal 6-4 cushion before Pau de Guzman sent them to a 10-6 advantage
who was only inserted in the game in the fourth set
impressed with a cross court kill to deliver the match point at 14-10 and finished it off with a down-the-line attack.
De Guzman churned out another big game with 21 points and seven receptions while Padillon and Batindaan chipped in 13 and 12 markers apiece
Villaflores chimed in with eight points all in the fourth and fifth sets
Happy because we won but sad because if you'll see in the second set
The players did not realize that Baste was inching closer
there will be more since we still have a lot to go through.)
Kath Santos once again top-scored San Sebastian with 21 points while Marasigan collected 15 markers
but their efforts went for naught anew.

a former three-time champion in the NCAA women's volleyball tournament
these losses will only make them stronger as they look to reclaim the throne come Season 99.
The Lady Chiefs are parading a youthful squad led by third year middle blocker Dodee Batindaan
who witnessed the team's struggles in Seasons 97 and 98 that came on the heels of three straight titles from 2017 to 2019.
The wards of decorated head coach Obet Javier actually reached the finals round of Season 97 but fell twice to eventual champion De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and bid goodbye to their four-peat dream
They were unable to bounce back in the following year and missed the Final Four altogether
But the Lady Chiefs will use these heartaches as their fuel for Season 99.
"Sobrang eager po namin na maibalik talaga sa Arellano 'yung title kasi bago mag-pandemic, Arellano 'yung laging champions and gusto namin mapatunayan na kaya pa rin namin," Batindaan told GMA News Online.
(We are very eager for Arellano to reclaim the title because before the pandemic
we were always the champions and we want to prove that we still can.)
Batindaan is tipped to get enough help from other holdovers in incoming sophomore Laika Tudlasan
who showed a lot of promise in the previous season despite only being a rookie
They will be joined by veterans Charmina Diño
who is expected to fill the void left by seniors Trina Abay and Nicole Sasuman.
Kristine Adante and Donnalyn Paralejas are the designated playmakers while bolstering the frontline are Harem Ceballos

Philippines – Billionaire Olivia Villaflores Yanson
the matriarch of the clan that owns one of Asia’s biggest bus fleets
has received a legal greenlight for probate of her will that leaves only two of her six children as heirs to the family business empire
Bacolod City Regional Trial Court Branch 44 Presiding Judge Ana Celeste Bernad’s 27-page decision
said the last will and testament of the Yanson Group of Bus Companies owner had complied with formalities required by law
and Ricky – and their heirs have been dispossessed of the fortune that started in the garage of Olivia’s late husband Ricardo
at the government housing estate in Bacolod City
The big winners are Leo Rey Yanson and Ginnette Yanson Dumancas
The Yanson Group owns almost 5,000 bus units and employs 18,000 workers
Since the death of Ricardo of a heart attack on October 28
the family has been engaged in a tumultuous feud
which has included the physical struggle for control of its vast bus terminal in Bacolod City
This is a developing story and Rappler will update as soon as the four Yanson oppossitors issue a statement
The court document detailed numerous back and forth between the widow and her disinherited children since she filed on April 15
a petition for probate of her last will and testament
The American Bar Association defines probate as “the formal legal process that gives recognition to a will and appoints the executor or personal representative who will administer the estate.”
of the Rules of Court does not allow a probate court to “inquire into the intrinsic validity of the will or the disposition of the estate by the person leaving behind a legacy.”
The court must simply determine “whether the testator
freely executed the will in accordance with the formalities prescribed by law.”
said they believe their mother “was under undue and improper influence and pressure from Leo Rey and Ginette.”
told the court that even before February 13
she had several discussions with her lawyers before she approved the will
The widow said she sought probate during her lifetime to show that she is quite able in executing her Last Will and Testament of her own free will and desire
While Fortun represented the oppossitors during hearings
none of the four personally appeared in court to witness and be cross examined
Most of the oppossitors’ witnesses also acknowledged they were not present when the matriarch executed her last will and testament
had shown proof that she was in possession of all her reasoning faculties
and clearly understood the import and consequences of executing the document
She also signed the will in front of four subscribing witnesses
Oppositors have not presented any evidence to the Court that would show there was undue influence or pressure exerted on the Petitioner,” the decision stressed
Pinagkaisahan pala nung 4 yung 2 kapatid nung nalaman nilang disinherited na sila
They have the right to do as they wish kasi pinaghirapan nila yan
Maliban na lang kung may nanloloko sa magulang mo
then maybe that’s the time when you should take the matter to court and fight it out

and 230 feature phones back to the Philippines this week
The company has kept silent as to how much these will retail for although they gave a hint that price range will be Php1,500 to under Php3K
The Nokia 150 was already made available in different countries including UK and India with a retail price of £35 and INR2,299
When directly converted to Philippine Peso
that’s around Php2K so expect it to be in that price range when it officially sells here
We were told by the company that these are all dual-SIM versions and that the units are already ”clearing customs” so we should see these new feature phones real soon

Bulacan Provincial Police Office director Col

The syndicate is also responsible for the bulk distribution of illegal drugs in Central Luzon
In his report to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig

Police said Domingo and his two female companions were arrested at about 6:30 a.m
on Wednesday by the operating units led by Lt
