wife and that’s it,” said the longtime area chef but the story does start at the Ugly Mugs party last Christmas LaVon worked at Ugly Mugs in Centerville for Steve Terzini who owned both Little Sheba's and Ugly Mugs shutting down Ugly Mugs in January and looking to sell Sheba's ►RELATED: Here's why Ugly Mugs in Centerville is closing who was the executive chef at Forest Hills Country Club "How can you buy a restaurant with no money So we really didn’t think too much about it “He came back again," LaVon said of Terzini with help from Scott Underwood at the Innovation Center and others with Moises working the kitchen and LaVon helping in all areas from office work to busing tables It's a pairing of two institutions in Richmond: Sheba's, a local favorite for nearly 30 years in the Depot District whose cooking has been a key part of several of the city's most popular eateries for more than 30 years He spent 28 years working for Galo Molina at Old Richmond Inn Ainsley's Cafe and Galo's Italian Grill before his time at Forest Hills Moises first worked at Old Richmond Inn as a dishwasher Another date led to another fill-in shift and Moises accepting Molina's job offer who began cooking with his grandmother and mother in Mexico about age 7 He shows off photos he's stored on his phone of intricate dessert displays rows of tuna dishes and finely grilled steaks from Forest Hills There's no doubt he feels passionately about the food he prepares.  The couple's passions for food and service will certainly be evident at Little Sheba's as they make sure Sheba's customers find their favorites on the menu interspersed with Moises' specialties especially some new dinner options at a restaurant known for its sandwiches “Ease into it," LaVon said about the transition "Take over and see how it’s running and see what changes we need to make here.” Moises said he wants to introduce some Latin flavors and Latin flairs to the menu fittingly for a former executive chef at Galo's the couple wants Sheba's to remain affordable for its clientele the kitchen is "awkward," according to Moises It has no deep fryer and limited grill space That means no chimichangas that were a staple at Forest Hills and leaves little room for grilling steaks “There’s lots of things to think about when you go to create a new dish,” LaVon said Moises wants as much scratch cooking as possible at Sheba's He has figured out how to prepare pulled pork in the Sheba's kitchen Moises said it takes more than 24 hours to prepare his pork but that allows patrons to customize their dish with whatever flavors Sheba's offers While Moises adjusts to the Sheba's kitchen who has been a server and bartender, adjusts to handling office work which first met while working at Ainsley's complements each other with different strengths They went their separate ways from Ainsley's because the timing wasn't right to be together and he brought her hot wings from Fricker's just as it's right now for the couple and Little Sheba's Moises said he always wanted to have a restaurant He acquired one with a staff and reputation in place “If we had money and we thought let’s go have a restaurant this has been the best-case scenario for us," LaVon said There aren’t many places—in Columbus or elsewhere—where you can get succulent authentic Birria alongside a quality pizza to go But then again, there aren’t many restaurants like Martha’s Fusion Kitchen after its namesake Martha Armenta teamed up with Columbus real estate agent Jose Zacatelco After a several-year-long search for the proper venue the two finally decided upon the former location of Bella Pizza the signage from the former pizzeria still hangs on the building but it stands as a fitting tribute to a truly unique culinary situation That’s because Armenta and Zacatelco never intended to make pizza in the first place.  they also were given the chance to take on Bella Pizza’s old kitchen equipment because we basically took over the full Bella Pizza but I convinced her it’s going to pay off,” Zacatelco said with a laugh And while their pies are definitely worth a visit—and they’ve brought in experienced Italian chefs to ensure quality—what most people come to Martha’s for is their rich Birria is a Mexican stew featuring meat marinated in a savory blend of adobo and other spices Martha’s Birria was a late addition to the menu and originally not intended as a full-time dish “One day Martha came in with ten pounds of meat and decided to make Birria We decided to do it as a weekend thing for a short time but then people kept calling and asking for it,” he said “So now we’re known as the Birria place.” Martha’s also offers a variety of top-notch Mexican dishes as well And that’s not just our assessment: The people of the (614) are officially all-in on the new versatile spot regularly filling up its handful of dine-in tables with more orders flooding in each day.  “Everybody’s been so excited about our food We love how Columbus has responded to us,” Zacatelco said Subscribe to stay up-to-date on things to do Burke Catholic High School’s Reality Check group encouraged their peers to quit e-cigarettes and stop one knows the long-term effects of using e-cigarettes like Juul The students handed out more than 50 bandannas to pets in the park and flagged then cleaned more than 200 cigarette butts “Cigarette butts are the single most littered item in the U.S and are toxic to wildlife,” said Chris Zacatelco “Parks are a place where our community members go to breathe clean air and exercise They should not have to worry about pets or small kids playing near cigarette butts or in some cases putting them in their mouths.” Discarded cigarettes also leach heavy metals into the soil and water and present a
