Two Rotterdam men, ages 18 and 20, have been arrested for their suspected involvement in two attempts to detonate an explosive device near a home in Alblasserdam earlier this month
A firearm was also found on the younger suspect during his arrest
The arrests come after three other suspects
including a 29-year-old man from Dordrecht and two boys
were detained in connection with the incidents
a resident of Frederik Hendrikstraat in Alblasserdam noticed a firework bomb placed near her house
The resident managed to scare off the suspect before the homemade explosive went off
witnesses saw a car with three occupants who had fireworks and materials used to make explosives inside
two more suspects were arrested on December 13 for allegedly playing a leading role in the incidents
the 18-year-old was found in possession of a firearm
Authorities have not ruled out that additional people could be involved
Police are also seeking further witnesses and have urged anyone with information or video footage

Prosecutors said in court on Wednesday they suspect a 29-year-old man from Oosterhout of raping a child
an allegation which they tied to a wide-scale sextortion scheme
was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in Alblasserdam
and seducing around 70 girls in the Netherlands and in Belgium to trick them into sending nude images of themselves
The rape offense happened in July of last year, prosecutors said. During the incident, the girl repeatedly told the man to stop, but B. disregarded her please, according to Alblasserdamsnieuws
The victim reported the crime to the police
which led to the arrest and a further investigation into his presence on the internet
He allegedly used a chat messaging feature in a virtual world game to contact the girls
and then used the imagery they sent him to further extort them
About 50 victims have come forward thus far
prosecutors said during the status hearing in the Breda courtroom
offered girls virtual gemstones in the South Korean app Zepeto in exchange for nude images
He then began to blackmail his victims if the girls decided to stop sending him sexually explicit material
He allegedly told one girl that he would physically harm her family
roughly 35 live in the Netherlands and 16 or 17 girls live in Belgium
Contact is still being made with new victims
according to the Public Prosecution Service
The remaining 19 have yet to be identified
Investigators want to make sure that they have an opportunity to determine who these victims are
and to make contact with them and their families
It is important that the girls are notified about the arrest
The girls can then decide if they also want to press charges
This comes just under a year after another significant extortion case was treated by the court in Breda. Gianni de W. from Etten-Leur was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison in May and mandatory psychiatric treatment at a TBS facility after he was convicted of the online sexual abuse of 30 victims
There were a total of 172 victims in that case
but not all of them pressed charges against him
is currently in custody and is being evaluated by a psychologist and psychiatrist
The next interim hearing is scheduled for May 27

Feb 3 (Reuters) – The city of Rotterdam has agreed to remove a section of historic bridge in the Netherlands to make way for a superyacht
reportedly built for Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos
A spokesperson for the city of Rotterdam said the mid-section of the century-old “Koningshavenbrug,” know by locals as “De Hef”
will be removed this summer to make way for a yacht with 40-metre (131-ft) masts
but declined to comment on who owns the ship
Rotterdam broadcaster Rijnmond reported that the yacht is owned by Jeff Bezos
Officials at yacht builder Oceanco did not respond to requests for comment
Representatives for Jeff Bezos did not immediately respond to a request for comment
making it the largest sailing yacht in the world when it launches in 2022
according to figures published by Boat International
To get from Oceanco’s inland dock in Alblasserdam to the North Sea
the first landmark to be restored in post-war Rotterdam
The city said it carefully considered its duty to care for the bridge and the economic interests created by the project before “ultimately deciding to vote in favour of this request”

The Alblasserdam BCTN Container Transferium was officially opened on 28 May 2015
The aim of the project was to optimise links with the Maasvlakte terminal containers
which could previously only be reached by truck on the already congested A15 motorway
It was hoped that the number of trucks using the A15 could be cut by 180,000 a year
over 750 containers per week passed through the Alblasserdam interior terminal
thanks to the use of river routes and also because the facilities themselves use green technologies (electric cranes
The project was financed partly by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment
the Port of Rotterdam calculated the savings generated by the Transferium for one of its users
the Van Sillevoldt Rijst rice processing plant
It was estimated that using river transport via the Transferium cut CO2 emissions by 411,000 kg for the 5100 containers that would otherwise have had to transit via the A15
the Maasvlakte Transferium was designed with a similar approach
and in particular the 7000 people working in the fifty or so businesses in the port’s western zone
Current projects in the sector could see that figure rise by 1500 in the next three years
The Maasvlakte Transferium acts as a hub with links between various modes of public transport: bus
The ferry service currently runs to a timetable coordinated with the business hours of the ECT or Europe Container Terminal (7am and 2pm)
A survey will be carried out of businesses
to evaluate the benefits of extending this timetable

An iconic bridge in the Netherlands will be dismantled for a day to let Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' new superyacht pass through
is set to be dismantled to allow the 417-foot Y721 to pass through when it is completed later this year
The now-decommissioned lift bridge is considered to be one of Rotterdam's landmarks and is listed on several travel websites as a sightseeing destination
Bezos' yacht is currently being built at the Oceano shipyard in nearby Alblasserdam but will need to leave via the Koningshavenbrug to make it out to sea
The bridge will need to be dismantled as the superyacht would be unable to fit under it
even while at its full clearance of 130 feet
both Bezos and Oceano approached the local council about the temporary dismantling and their request had been accepted
The broadcaster said the cost of dismantling the bridge will be paid for by Bezos
who Forbes says has an estimated fortune of about $178 billion as of this month
Local groups have voiced their concerns about the move
with Ton Wesselink of the local history society
saying there should be limits on what is done to the city's heritage
but there are limits with what you can and should do with our industrial heritage."
the broadcaster reported Rotterdam council vowed the bridge would never be dismantled again
who helped manage the bridge's restoration
said that it would not be practical to partly complete the vessel then finish the project somewhere else
He told Rijnmond: "If you carry out a big job somewhere
this is such a large project that there are hardly any locations where this work could be finished
"From an economic perspective and maintaining employment
the municipality considers this a very important project
Rotterdam has also been declared the maritime capital of Europe
Shipbuilding and activity within that sector are therefore an important pillar for the municipality."
Newsweek has contacted Amazon and Oceano for comment
Bezos' wealth exploded during the pandemic
with his net worth increasing from $113 billion in 2020 to $177 billion the following year
The billionaire has used his money to blast into space
bringing along a select group for the Blue Origin rocket launch in July 2021
But Bezos' use of his wealth has come under fire from some, including Prince William of United Kingdom who appeared to take aim at the billionaire's recent venture into space
Prince William told the BBC: "We need some of the world's greatest brains and minds fixed on trying to repair this planet
not trying to find the next place to go live
is what sold it for me—that really is quite crucial to be focusing on this [planet] rather than giving up and heading out into space to try and think of solutions in the future."

Ten police officers entered into quarantine after someone tested positive for a SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection after attending an illegal party broken up by police
The party was on a boat at yacht builder Oceanco in Alblasserdam
nine days after partial lockdown restrictions in the Netherlands put an end to events and mixed household gatherings of more than four adults
Two officers were dispatched to the boat party after a tip was called in from someone who heard loud music and saw disco lighting
They instead threw glasses and chairs at the two officers
More police were sent to help break up the party
which the Zuid-Holland-Zuid district police chief Dennis den Os said was an “outrageous” turn of events
Four men and a woman were taken into custody
one of those who attended the event was diagnosed with the coronavirus infection
“This should never have happened,” said Alblasserdam Deputy Mayor Peter Verheij
“We sympathize with the officers who are now in quarantine against their will,” he said
and “wishing them and their families a lot of strength now that tense days are coming for them.”

A bridge in Rotterdam that has monument status will not be dismantled so that a new superyacht belonging to Jeff Bezos can reach the sea
The 127-meter-long vessel will be the second-largest sailing yacht in the world
It is being produced by Oceanco in Alblasserdam for the Amazon founder
but the three-masted ship cannot fit under the Koningshaven Bridge
Oceanco informed the municipality that it is cancelling its current logistical plans to transport the 430 million euro yacht, at least for the time being, Trouw reported based on documents it obtained under a freedom of information request
The company said it was blindsided by the social unrest the plans caused
and shipyard workers felt threatened as a result
the Alblasserdam yacht builder said it feared the prospect of vandalism
Some Rotterdam residents are passionate about De Hef's place in history
The retired railroad bridge was one of the first structures to be restored after the German's destroyed much of the city center on 14 May 1940 during the Rotterdam Blitz
Earlier this year, local resident Pablo Strörmann launched a Facebook event inviting people to throw eggs at the yacht once the shipyard launches it
"It started more as a joke among friends after we heard the news about the possible dismantling of the bridge." Thousands of people quickly expressed their interest in the event
Strörmann acknowledged his satirical joke got "out of hand," but he remained irritated that a bridge viewed fondly by some Rotterdammers might be damaged
"Normally it’s the other way around: If your ship doesn’t fit under a bridge
But when you happen to be the richest person on Earth you just ask a municipality to dismantle a monument
Rotterdam project leader Marcel Walravens said in February that it was impractical to move the incomplete ship under the bridge and then finish it elsewhere
opting instead to remove the middle section of the bridge and then reassemble it
He also noted the importance the shipbuilding industry has to the area
the municipality considers this a very important project," he said
Shipbuilding and activity within that sector are therefore an important pillar of the municipality."
The Mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb, also noted the number of highly-skilled jobs such projects provide for the region. He also said that the cost to take the bridge apart, and reassemble it, would be covered by Oceanco and its client. He also denied that any final decision had been made
"I understand the industry is good for the local economy
It's fine that there is also money to be made with the dismantling
but in my opinion it’s not only money that counts," Strörmann said in response
It is not yet known how Oceanco will get the superyacht to sea. The company refused to comment to Trouw's questions.

Photo: WikipediaThe war in Ukraine and sanctions against Russia are likely to have an impact on the Dutch superyacht industry
which has been heavily reliant on Russian customers in recent years
Specialist magazine Superyacht Times said Russian customers accounted for 9% of luxury yacht sales and 13.2% of boats longer than 40 metres
Among the biggest suppliers are Dutch manufacturers such as Heesen Yachts in Oss
Damen Yachting in Vlissingen and Oceanco in Alblasserdam
The last company was recently in the news for building a 127m yacht for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, which was so large that the company applied to have a historic bridge in Rotterdam temporarily dismantled so it could be delivered out to sea
But the loss of Russian clients will be a blow to boat builders such as Heesen
which is currently putting the finishing touches to a €100 mn yacht commissioned by Azerbaijani businessman Vagit Alekperov
a former deputy oil and gas minister in the Soviet Union
is now president of Russian oil company Lukoil
but currently he is not among the Russian businessmen and oligarchs on the European Union’s sanctions list
Heesen has also built boats for Russian retail magnate Igor Kasaev and oil exploration billionaire Alexander Dzhaparidze and has two Russians on its supervisory board, according to investigative website Follow the Money.
Spokeswoman Sara Gioanola said: ‘We are concerned about the present situation
It will have a big impact on the industry.’
Damen Yachting is currently working on two orders for Russian customers and has previously built boats for Dzhaparidze and Oleg Tinkov, founder of the Tinkoff bank, who was convicted of tax fraud in the US last year
Spokesman Robin Middel said no other orders had recently come in from Russia and none of the company’s customers are on the sanctions list
We’re dealing with sliding doors,’ he said
Oceanco built the €290 million Nirvana for banker and art collector Vladimir Potanin, cited by Fortune as Russia’s wealthiest man
which was last seen cruising off the coast of the Maldives
Several Russian-owned superyachts have been seized by European port authorities since the start of the invasion
chairman of Russian state oil company Rosneft
was detained in the French port of La Ciotat last week
Uzbek-born owner of the Kommersant publishing house
is currently marooned in Hamburg harbour where it has been undergoing a refit
Hamburg’s economic authority denied reports that the boat had been confiscated, but a spokesman told Reuters: ‘I am not aware that a delivery of the yacht to its owner is currently planned.’

With the expiration of José Peseiro's contract, a few coaches have thrown their hat in the ring for the Super Eagles job
and what could he bring to the Super Eagles
we'll provide all the information you need to know about him
Born in Dordrecht but raised in Alblasserdam
Buijs kick-started his playing career with VV Alblasserdam's youth team
he spent his playing career in the Netherlands
Buijs spent the 2011/12 campaign with Scottish side Kilmarnock
where he won the Scottish League Cup in 2012
but could also play as a defensive midfielder
It's worth noting that Danny Buijs ended his playing career with amateur side Kozakken Boys
and a couple of years after his retirement
The 41-year-old did a fairly decent job with Kozakken Boys
For someone who spent most of his playing and coaching career in the same country
it's interesting that the former Feyenoord player is setting his sights on the Super Eagles job
Nigeria participated at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023) earlier this year
Considering the Super Eagles' last AFCON title came in 2013
so it's difficult to be excited about a coach who hasn't won anything in his career
Danny Buijs' Fortuna Sittard are currently 11th on the Eredivisie table with just nine wins from 30 league games
The team is currently on a five-match winless streak
It's important to point out that Buijs has no experience with national teams
he didn't even represent any country during his playing days
Is the 41-year-old good enough for the Super Eagles
