The man is said to have sexually abused the pony several times. The owner of the pony had found the animal in suspicious circumstances at the beginning of October and alerted the animal police. During the investigation, camera footage caught the suspect and eventually led to his arrest last Thursday. The police also found evidence that is currently being analyzed. At its current location at the Amsterdam Foodcenter "Here we move about eighty pallets out every morning The opening hours of the Foodcenter also hinder us as customers can only access the market at 5 a.m the new building plans at the center have been delayed for quite some time That's why we started looking elsewhere for suitable premises." In red: the location of Fresh Food's new premises "We were looking for a new location between Amsterdam and The Hague premises in Nieuw-Vennep and Hoofddorp are nearly impossible to find this property is perfect for expanding our activities We're planning to install about 600 m² of refrigeration and the rest will be a spacious Cash & Carry," says Vince enthusiastically "The advantage of this new building is that we can more easily accommodate a truckload of apples That also significantly reduces purchase costs we can then distribute a few pallets to Amsterdam and The Hague for individual customers." the premises will be prepared as a fresh produce wholesaler we'll be able to move in as early as spring but that depends on the construction and delivery time of the refrigeration," Vince explains He plans to transfer several staff members from The Hague and Amsterdam to the new branch "These are all young guys who are eager to work hard Fresh Food will sell a wide range of products across its various branches "We always have standard vegetables like aubergines Green asparagus and sugar snaps aren't available every day we stock ten pallets; if they're expensive who is optimistic about the future of the Cash & Carry I can sell more to our existing customers and attract new ones as well." the Hague branch primarily serves the Hague market where three to four full trolleys of goods are sent out on a busy Friday larger customers in the surrounding area are served including market traders and foreign supermarkets "We are a reliable partner because we do what we say and say what we do who represents the third generation of the Van Vliet family in the fresh produce trade For more information:Vince van VlietFresh FoodLangevaart 43 2231 GB Rijnsburg [email protected]www.freshfoodamsterdam.nl FreshPublishers © 2005-2025 FreshPlaza.com the Kronenburg student campus in Amstelveen finally seems to be taking shape aircraft noise from Schiphol Airport threw a spanner in the works but by taking measures minister Uitermark of the Interior now hopes to get quick approval for the project Could the shortage of student housing in Amsterdam finally be somewhat reduced the solution to the problem seems a little closer again now that the Kronenburg student campus could come about sooner than thought thanks to a legal cunning but the Amstelveen municipality's revamped plans seem to be a step in the right direction The Kronenburg issue has been a headache for both Amstelveen municipality and the state for years Amstelveen has been walking around for ages with the ambitious plan to house thousands of students in the former office district The area currently suffers from vacancy and derelict plots of land and the arrival of student housing should counteract the deterioration The Amstelveen municipality has long been looking for ways to make the area around the nearby Uilenstede campus more liveable Additional student housing should play a role in this The Council of State and the Inspectorate of the Environment and Transport (ILT) - a body that supervises on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management - put a stop to the municipality's plans at an earlier stage because the noise pollution from overflying aircraft would be too severe The area where the proposed campus was to be built is subject to quite a few restrictions due to noise from Schiphol Airport Those rules are based on the Airport Planning Decree (LIB) This stipulates that the area around Schiphol is divided into different zones within which different rules apply as far as residential construction is concerned In zone LIB-4 - The zone in which Kronenburg is located - restrictions on residential construction apply Student campus Uilenstede is in the same zone as Kronenburg but was built before the Airport Planning Decree was introduced in 2003 This campus can therefore continue to exist But so now construction can go ahead on Kronenburg after all the Lower House immediately turned out to be in favour of the plan to build the campus in Amstelveen The housing shortage in Amsterdam would be too acute So then Housing Minister Huge de Jonge announced last year that he would relax the rules around noise pollution from Schiphol So the Schiphol LIB had to be amended for this particular case so that the first 438 houses could be built time-consuming amendment of the noise rules may not be necessary after all Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations Judith Uitermark is opting for the route of a declaration of no objection from the ILT Such a declaration can be used to deviate from restrictions imposed by the LIB Short-term campus contracts should also ensure that students do not linger too long at Kronenburg and thus are not unnecessarily exposed to the Schiphol noise the 438 student houses could already be there sooner than thought These houses could quickly be converted into regular student housing if the monitor to be conducted by the municipality shows that living on campus is not bad for health So are those 438 students not experiencing noise pollution Research from 2017 by the Schiphol Environment Council shows that young people experience substantially less annoyance from aircraft noise than people in other age categories research by the GGD shows that experiencing long-term noise pollution from Schiphol can be bad for health but those adverse effects apply to a lesser extent for temporary residents This would make the location extremely suitable for student accommodation Figures from the Amstelveen municipality's measuring station also show that the noise pollution in large parts of Kronenburg is in practice lower than the LIB-4 zone classification suggests and according to calculations by the same station this pollution seems to be decreasing even further Amstelveen also cited the cabinet's intentions to further minimise noise pollution from Schiphol but student union Asva is not happy with the new plans “ We are hugely disappointed,” said president Teun Otte “ Thousands of houses could have been built but in the end there will be mostly short-stay accommodation So that is nothing more than a disguised student hotel These should be permanent residences.” Asva is entering talks with DUWO to see if the plans can be changed “ This was not acceptable to us,” Otte continued This is at the expense of the tenants‘ position.” As for the proximity to Schiphol: “ With that logic you could declare all of Hoofddorp shortstay.” DUWO says it had also hoped for more permanent student houses but that the current plans are the best result at the moment the ambition remains to realise more housing in time “ Agreements have been made to conduct research into possible health damage due to noise pollution from Schiphol If the research results show that there is no health damage it can still be decided to give the short-stay units that have already been built the function of permanent residence after all We have always argued that Uilenstede provides proof that successful student housing is possible We therefore look forward to the announced studies with great confidence and remain hopeful that we can realise our original ambition in the longer term,” said a spokesperson This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks The action you just performed triggered the security solution There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase You can email the site owner to let them know you were blocked Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page The matches will take place at VRA in Amstelveen and Kampong in Utrecht The top-4 of the eight countries participating in the WCL2 will eventually play a qualifying tournament for the World Cup SquadShariz Ahmad (VRA)Noah Croes (VCC)Aryan Dutt (Hermes DVS)Scott Edwards (captain wk) (Kampong)Viv Kingma (VCC)Fred Klaassen (Kent)Kyle Klein (HBS)Bas de Leede (Durham)Michael Levitt (VCC)Zach Lion-Cachet (Sussex)Paul van Meekeren (Rood en Wit)Roelof van der Merwe (HBS)Teja Nidamanuru (VRA)Max O’Dowd (Kampong)Vikram Singh (VRA) Fixtures            11.00    4-5-2025    SCO v UAE (catch-up)    VRA Amstelveen11.00    6-5-2025    NED v UAE    VRA Amstelveen11.00    8-5-2025    SCO v UAE    VRA Amstelveen11.00    10-5-2025    NED v SCO    VRA Amstelveen11.00    12-5-2025    UAE v NED    Kampong Utrecht11.00    14-5-2025    UAE v SCO    Kampong Utrecht11.00    16-5-2025    NED v SCO    Kampong Utrecht For current WCL2 standings please visit ESPNcricinfo. P60 in Amstelveen is not only a lovely size for a metal gig but it’s also got a really great sound setup this being my first European club gig means the lack of cigarette smoke saturating my every pore (a given at any South African club event legislation be damned) was an extremely welcome surprise perhaps the fact that the show was on the last Sunday of most people’s winter holidays being the contributing factor or that the bands had played at the Hedon Zwaar Niuewjaar mini-festival in Zwolle the night prior The second thing that really hit home was the diversity of the crowd in attendance While the majority of the attendees squarely fit into the extreme metal stereotype and blue denim-clad doomers filled out the ranks a mélange of subcultures peacefully cohabiting in a way that I haven’t experienced since the mid-‘90s club days of Johannesburg skinheads and goths could regularly be seen on dancefloors grooving together to The Cramps’ “Human Fly.” And exhibition is a carefully selected word in this case because the stylistic juxtapositions of this leg of the tour really speak of thoughtful A clear and engaging narrative can be easily and readily inferred by the progression through the bands’ styles and themes Check out the video for “Aghoria,” just released off of Cold Black Suns prior to Christmas: The aforementioned esoteric component neatly segued into the ritualistic and structured performance by Schammasch since I discovered them on their incredible 2014 album Contradiction is no exception to this: as conceptual as the finest progressive metal possessed of as much darkness as the most underground black and as hard-hitting as the harshest brutality death can offer yet at times so heart-breakingly clear and fragile you scarcely dare to breathe And their live renditions do this description justice primitive rhythms invoking hypnotic effects and seven-string guitars being stretched to the absolute limits of their range are sharply contrasted with passages of anguished screaming guitar tone like a rusty hacksaw and bullet-to-the-head drumlines The visual equivalent of a Schammasch show is the scene towards the end of 2018’s Hereditary where Toni Collette’s levitating character decapitates itself with piano wire typified by a disturbing shadow/light interplay and yet still strangely intriguing and infinitely memorable And don’t even get me started on the gorgeous lavish fabrics employed in the bands’ stage robes with the modern styling of “Vapula Omega,” the crowd-pleasing songwriting of “Silent Redemption” and the deeply atmospheric “Aghoria” best benefiting from the live setting Having seen the album release show at ThroneFest last June (see our review) I am very pleased to note the flourish and flair Enthroned have added to the performance of these numbers but the band seemed tighter and more at ease throughout the performance the heavy eyes and aching joints punctuating my commute early on Monday morning were well worth it; all three bands played their (cold black) hearts out Cold Black Suns is available from Season of Mist; Schammasch released Hearts Of No Light on Prosthetic Records in November 2019 watch the music video for “Hosanna Satana”: Haunt – “Mind Freeze” [Album Review] KVELERTAK’s New Track with Troy Sanders from MASTODON is a Mighty “Crack Of Doom” From Down Under to Denmark Street: RedHook’s Fiery London Headline Debut Lucy Dacus Brings the Feels to Boston with Katie Gavin [Photos] G-Eazy’s “Helium Tour” Electrifies Vancouver Fans at Vogue Theatre [Photos] Myles Smith Pushes Through Intense Illness for Sold-Out House of Blues Crowd [Photos] Headliner to Date at Boston’s MGM at Fenway it was like monsters with guitars and I was blown away.” Mark Morton: “I was starting to break out of the clouds I could tell that was happening and it felt really free to be creative.” Shadows of a Silhouette Premiere Energetic New Single “No Matter Where I Go” KING 810 Reveal ‘Rustbelt Nu Metal’ Album Details & European Tour Dawn Of Ouroboros Announce Extensive Spring & Summer US Tour Dates Diablo® and Berserk Join Forces with Beast In Black for Epic Collaboration Deafheaven – ‘Lonely People With Power’ [Album Review] ©2025 V13 Media is part of V13 Media Group, owned by V13 Ventures. it’s a clear indication of people’s desire to have a say in their city’s development the winning design feels like a natural extension of the city’s green character.’ the new bridge will span the new highway junction and provide pedestrian and bicycle access from the southern parts of the city to amstelveen’s centre the new bridge will span the new highway junction and provide pedestrian and bicycle access in the community competition to be decided by popular vote, the design received 77% of the nearly 12,000 votes. the winning proposal is a collaborative design by paul de ruiter architects, CULD (complex urban landscape design) and structural engineering firm tielemans bouwconstructies the bridge’s columns are shaped like giant flowerpots that protrude above deck bearing large indigenous trees the deck winds its way like a green ribbon with its meandering paths and lush sections of green infographic explaining the infrastructure of the design the bridge resembles a leafy park and as night falls the design received 77% of the nearly 12,000 votes AXOR presents three bathroom concepts that are not merely places of function but destinations in themselves — sanctuaries of style Broadway Off-Broadway Off-Off Broadway Cabaret Dance Opera Classical Music Nashville Minneapolis / St. Paul Connecticut Atlanta Chicago Los Angeles WEST END UK Regional Canada Australia / New Zealand Europe Asia Latin America Africa / Middle East TV/Movies Music her diary of her time in The Secret Annex aka Het Achterhuis is published in more than 70 languages During WOII, Anne, father Otto Frank, mother Edith Frank together with son Peter) and later dentist Fritz Pfeffer went in hiding in July 1942 until August 4th 1944 when they were ill-fatedly discovered by the Nazi’s To this day it remains uncertain whether or not they were betrayed Only Otto Frank survived the horrors inflicted by the Nazis and was the sole survivor from all the Secret Annex’s residents who whas one of the helpers of Het Achterhuis and former employee of Otto after learning that Anne would not come home Anne) was a great succes in 2010 when Mark Vijn Theaterproducties first produced this musical Director Frank van Laecke (both director in 2010 as this new version) who is also partially reponsible for  the translation set and lighting design can only repeat this succes to an certain extent The stage is designed as the Star of David which bears a substantial gravitas in itself Anne doesn’t leave you with a big lump in your troat It states on the production’s website that it is a clear choice not to dramatize make additions/alterations to the factual story of all the little and big annoyances the families had towards each other aren’t really felt and only flare up in short scenes and seem to dissapear as the story unfolds The music is created by Michael Cohen (lyrics by Enid Futterman) in general a sober yet melodic musical score It lacks a more classic musical theatre structure as the story of Anne Frank really doesn’t need a glamour feel it’s more a musical frame than anything else the music is best be shown to its’ full advantage The harmonic flow of the cast is very well done the sound design needs a little adjustment as the mics from the actors had a pretty significant echo The musical is more than anything an ensemble piece and an important lesson that needs to be in our collective memory especially given the state of the world as it is Therefore a little extra depth in the emotional journey of the characters would have been wonderful  Not as an effect or trying to dramatize for no reason but as a way of storytelling which makes the dramatic events in itself stick Stating the facts is not why we need theatre Silvana Rocha                           Anne Frank Chris Tates                                Otto Frank Marleen van der Loo                Edith Frank Floor Brüggenwirth                  Margot Frank Wim van den Driessche          Hermann van Pels Mariska van Kolck                    Auguste van Pels Sem Konijn                                Peter van pels Jasper Kerkhof                         Fritz Pfeffer The 78th edition of the Holland Festival, the Netherlands' premier international performing arts event, will take place in June across various venues in Amsterdam. Privacy Policy Discover the best places to live in Amstelveen green suburb of Amsterdam located in the province of North Holland By Anastasia Drost it’s the perfect destination for those looking to commute to these locations To give you more insight into the popular leafy suburb and help you decide which buurt (neighborhood) is right for you this article provides the following information: Looking for somewhere to rent in the Netherlands Spotahome takes the hassle out of househunting by doing the hard work for you and book rental properties all from the comfort of your own home Take the stress out of househunting in the Netherlands with Spotahome Since then, Amstelveen has become increasingly popular among international companies looking to benefit from its close proximity to Amsterdam, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, and the Zuidas business district It is now home to large multinationals such as KLM This has led to an influx of international talent from all over the world, including a large pool from Asia. Indeed, in 2021, around 20% of Amstelveen’s population was non-Dutch accounting for 139 different nationalities It also features a variety of children’s paddling pools, lakes, and playgrounds for little ones to explore. There are also two farms in the park as well as several dining options. This includes the popular Boerderij Meerzicht pancake restaurant most of Amstelveen’s neighborhoods have a shopping area with at least a grocery store and pharmacy Amstelveen’s housing prices have soared in recent years it still remains a more affordable option than the capital And with more family-friendly homes with gardens and garages available on the market it is an attractive alternative for many international families The easiest way to look for housing to rent or purchase is by searching online property portals to get an idea of available housing stock and prices there are many of these in the Netherlands Unlike many towns and cities in the Netherlands, Amstelveen does not have the traditional 17th-century gabled canal houses. While some neighborhoods in the suburb do have pre-WWII housing in the Amsterdam School style the majority has been built since the 1960s Almost every neighborhood of Amstelveen has an equal mix of single-family residences and mid to high-rise multifamily buildings Most of the single-family homes are simple two-story attached homes with gardens at the back Many of these have been renovated once or even twice to include a third story and rear extension Amstelveen’s neighborhoods are growing and changing rapidly in order to meet the insatiable demand for housing new neighborhoods are developing on the eastern and southern sides of the suburb and existing neighborhoods are altering with the addition of new housing Because these developments have primarily happened within the last 60 years the neighborhoods in Amstelveen tend to be more similar to each other than in cities that developed more gradually there are some distinctions when it comes to density As its name suggests, Stadshart (which literally means ‘heart of the city’) is located in the center of Amstelveen. While it is the smallest neighborhood in the suburb, it is home to one of its largest shopping centers, the eponymous Stadshart The bustling mall contains nearly 200 stores and restaurants as well as a theatre and seasonal ice skating rink One of the only drawbacks of this neighborhood is that it lies beneath a flight path to Schiphol Airport. This means that planes can fly rather low, depending on the weather. It is serviced by the #5 and #25 trams on the east side and by several bus routes on Amsterdamseweg on the west. The average value of a home in Randwijk is €580,000 which is higher than Amstelveen’s average home value of €470,000 The average home value is just under €600,000 Located west of Elsrijk and bordered by Amsterdam Bos on its north and west sides Patrimonium is among the most expensive neighborhoods in Amstelveen which is well above the average property value in the suburb Patrimonium is very established and offers a quiet, green environment which makes it popular among families. More than 70% of residences are single-family dwellings and 40% of them are owned by rental corporations which is higher than in any other neighborhood in Amstelveen Oude Dorp is technically a sub-neighborhood within Keizer Karelpark Its name means ‘old village’ in Dutch and while glimmers of the olden days remain It has a lively shopping area with many bars and restaurants which makes it popular with the international community The west side features a small lake (De Poel) and Bloesempark, which blooms with pink cherry blossoms every spring. Around 60% of homes in the neighborhood are multifamily dwellings and these are more common than single-family ones The average home value in Oude Dorp is higher than in Keizer Karelpark but slightly below Amstelveen’s average home value of €470,000 Bordering Amsterdam’s Buitenveldert neighborhood, Uilenstede attracts a young and single crowd. It has the most single-person households in all of Amstelveen. Housing is almost exclusively within apartment buildings, which make up 99% of the property market Many of the residents are students and young professionals which is way below Amstelveen’s average These neighborhoods are located on the eastern side of Amstelveen and were largely built in the 1960s. They consist of a 60/40 mix of multi-family and single-family dwellings and the average home is valued at around €425,000 The area offers quite a lot of open and green space particularly on the eastern side that borders the Amstel River While the majority of housing is single-family, there is also a significant number of apartment buildings, particularly in Middenhoven. The #25 tram runs along the north side of these neighborhoods, providing easy access to Amsterdam Zuid Station. Around half of the residences are owner occupied and half are rented. The average home value is €410,000 Bovenkerk is one of the original villages that now make up Amstelveen. The kerk (church) part of its name refers to Saint Urbanus church whose steeple towers over the surrounding buildings Bovenkerk retains the feeling of a village with its small shops This is added to by the fact that it is nestled against Amsterdamse Bos on its north and west sides Located in the southwestern corner of Amstelveen Westwijk is the newest and largest neighborhood in the suburb The northern part of Westwijk is similar to other neighborhoods in Amstelveen with an even mix of single-family and multifamily dwellings which is almost double the Amstelveen average of €470,000 Amstelveen boasts an excellent public transport network which means that every resident lives within easy walking distance from a bus or tram stop trams #5 and #25 connect the suburb to Amsterdam Zuid Station while #5 runs between Stadshart and Amsterdam Centrum There are also multiple bus routes running throughout Amstelveen that connect it to hubs in Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport. The GVB website provides interactive maps and apps that allow you to plan your journey. Those preferring to drive the best way to get an idea of whether Amstelveen is the place for you is to go there in person If you usually cycle or use public transport you might want to experience what it is like to drive and park around the area If you are considering moving to Amstelveen from Amsterdam or another city you might want to think carefully about whether you would actually miss the daily hustle and bustle of a more urban setting And if peace and quiet are important to you it’s a good idea to listen out for the sound of planes passing overhead as this might deter you from living in a certain neighborhood Making sure that there is enough variety for you is also something to keep in mind are there nice places to socialize and mingle with other locals Is there a good selection of shops and other entertainment options on your doorstep Or do you crave nature and the great outdoors you might want to narrow your search to neighborhoods with lots of parks and natural landscapes In addition to visiting the different neighborhoods you might also want to join some local expat groups on social media group and ask people for their feedback and experiences of living in Amstelveen This could also be a great way to make some new friends before you move there Anastasia visited Amsterdam for the first time in 1994 and formed an intention to live there one day after a somewhat circuitous path through London she was finally able to call Amsterdam home Confused by the primary school system in the Netherlands from educational approaches to international options Although Amsterdam is typically the number one hub for expats there are plenty of other cities in the Netherlands worth your while We explain the complex secondary school system in the Netherlands including the three public streams and various international options He accepted the assignment for the assassination and acted as the driver The victim from Almere was shot dead on 22 December 2021 after visiting a dentist on Wieringerstraat in Amstelveen The two suspects allegedly followed Meiri for quite some time was 16 years old at the time of the murder The Almere man succumbed to his injuries in the hospital a short time after the shooting the OM considered it necessary to apply adult criminal law to the teenage suspect The court also called the assassination a “very serious offense” but still applied juvenile law a boy functioning at a level appropriate to his age He needs treatment with a pedagogical component such as juvenile institutionalized psychiatric treatment provides The court concluded that an institution for adults would not be the right place for the boy right now pointing out that he would be transferred to an adult institution when he was older Juvenile criminal law is sufficient in this case F.M. refused to make any statements and consistently invoked his right to remain silent during his trial. Co-defendant T.A. confessed to the police in July. He was arrested the day after Meiri’s murder. The police arrested F.M. in January. © 2012-2025, NL Times, All rights reserved. given its financial situation and mounting losses Healthcare entrepreneur Marius Touwen has agreed to extend a line of credit to the museum to tide it over for the coming year saying the museum’s finances are not as black as they have been painted Amstelveen council’s executive board said last week that they did not want to guarantee a loan to the museum which they suggest could lose up to €700,000 this year Officials also said they would no longer subside the museum to the tune of €1.2 million a year from 2024 The museum, which focuses on modern art and the Cobra movement, opened its doors in 1995 and 40% of its income comes from the council News of the impending closure has led to a petition and an online appeal by artist and actor Jeroen Krabbé is the “heart of Amstelveen” and has hosted extremely important exhibitions such as that of Frida Kahlo and the current show celebrating 75 years of Cobra Councillors are due to vote on the plan to stop subsidising the museum at the end of September The museum says it hopes Touwen’s intervention will give breathing space for talks with city officials about a structural solution to the museum’s problems We could not provide the Dutch News service without the generous support of our readers Your donations allow us to report on issues you tell us matter and provide you with a summary of the most important Dutch news each day Many thanks to everyone who has donated to DutchNews.nl in recent days We could not provide this service without you Please help us making DutchNews.nl a better read by taking part in a short survey Police in Amstelveen were investigating a shooting that left one man dead on Wednesday morning One suspect was still at large hours after the incident happened The shooting was reported at about 10:50 a.m Local residents called police after they heard the shots ring out Officers arriving on the scene found the victim lying wounded in the street he died a short time later in hospital from his injuries," police said Police identified the victim as a 56-year-old man from Almere who had previous run-ins with law enforcement and police were still trying to sort out what led up to the shooting early in the evening Local media said that the victim was Itzhak Meiri an Israeli who is well known in the Amsterdam criminal underworld He was convicted of extorting Amsterdam business owners in 2008 He was warned by police repeatedly that he was on a hit list A tracking device was found on Meiri's car around the same time Turkish-Dutch drug trafficker Ahmet G. and his daughter were shot at home in Amstelveen When the suspects were arrested in that case they found an SD card that had images of Meiri's home Witnesses said a man who was about 20 years of age pulled the trigger The gunman was described as being about 1.80 meters tall He was last seen near the Rembrandtweg area Forensic investigators spent the afternoon collecting trace evidence Witnesses told reporters that a mobile phone was found on the ground near a BMW 750LD parked at the crime scene Detectives said that anyone with information about the case television commentator and hockey connoisseur Dan Strange spoke of a moment in the final between Netherlands and Argentina that epitomised the 15th FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup.The moment in question saw Argentina attacking the Dutch left-hand defensive corner with their accustomed ferocity The ball was played out of defence with calmness and composure by Eva de Goede (33 years old and playing in her fourth World Cup) She slipped the ball to Felice Albers (22 years old and already a Junior World Cup assessed the situation and then turned on the burners to speed past Valentina Costa before shooting past Belén Succi – a giant of a goalkeeper in terms of ability and character and an emotional wreck as she sung her anthem for the last time as a player That snapshot epitomised the drama, emotion and downright quality that unfolded over 44 games of hockey This was the tournament where each and every hockey match enthralled and the stories behind the teams gave the competition a depth and a character that had hockey fans and those mildly interested all equally hooked Let’s start with Chile: they were the true underdogs very little international experience outside of their Pan American neighbourhood Their coach Sergio Vigil monopolised the cameras as his emotions were on full display for every minute of every match They enjoyed everything about their first World Cup and they brought to the competition more South American flair and flavour - and the fans loved it and showed the enormous potential within the Diablas squad No stranger to hockey’s big events but certainly a stranger to international hockey for the past two years were Australia along with their Oceania neighbours New Zealand have been conspicuous through their absence for much of the past two years due to national government Covid restrictions on travel played each other and came to Spain and the Netherlands ready to get competitive Both teams won their pool stages and earned a four day break – something they probably could have done without The Hockeyroos then went several steps further as they beat host nation Spain in the quarter-finals, lost to the Netherlands by a slight 1-0 margin and then claimed bronze with a super performance against Germany With Stephanie Kershaw and Amy Lawton creating from midfield a rock steady defensive mindset and an excellent goalkeeper in Jocelyn Bartram Australia look like the real deal for future tournaments This was a World Cup where the recognised stars of the game shone. Katie Mullan was the dynamo driving Ireland forward; Savita of India, Lee Jinmin of Korea and Liu Ping of China were among a plethora of goalkeepers who absolutely rocked it as they kept their teams in matches with crucial Within every team there are stalwarts who have been the bedrock of their team through management change, system change and all the highs and lows of international hockey. Sara McManus of Canada won her 200th cap in Amsterdam; Laura Unsworth and Hollie-Pearne-Webb were the platform from which England’s pacy forwards launched their attacks Cheon Eunbi guided her young Korea teammates to hold their nerve to win their final match on shoot-out Nagai Yuri and Oikawa Shihori continued to boss the midfield for Japan as the Cherry Blossoms played their usual style of creative The outstanding comment and accolade was paid to Spain’s own stalwart Georgina Oliva on social media: ’70 per cent of the world is covered by water wise heads made sure that the final performances were the best Netherlands were on their now customary slow burn to success The belief was always there in the eyes of Lidewij Welten Xan de Waard and the unassuming Marloes Keetels They had all been there before and knew what it took to win Argentina almost made it. Their semi-final match against Germany was a classic and one of the most enjoyable games to watch as a neutral. As Agustina Albertarrio and Maria Granatto celebrated after a tense shoot-out there was a sense – and later a reality – that the team might have peaked one game early Australia’s performance has already been praised but their Head Coach Trinny Powell – one of three female Head Coaches at the World Cup along with Janneke Schopman and Alyson Annan – should also be recognised for the way she prepared her team to play with such discipline in defence and freedom up front With young players such as Jean Leigh du Toit Felice Albers and Yibbi Jansen all entertaining us with their speed and flair it would take a very special player to win Young Player of the Tournament But Belgium’s Charlotte Englebert was a natural choice She epitomises what the Red Panthers brought to the tournament with her workmate game intelligence and determination to see the ball in the net Of course all of this needed a stage and a cast of people to make it happen. In both Amstelveen and Terrassa the local organising committees did a fantastic job of bringing hockey to the people In the Wagener Stadium a sea of orange greeted just about every match no matter who was playing and the knowledgeable crowd lapped up the skills on offer the stadium burst into a Spanish fiesta of noise and colour particularly when the home team or Argentina took to the field Spain’s Head Coach Adrian Lock said he had never experienced anything like it and his players soaked up every moment Keeping a lid on it all was a team of utterly professional umpires Time and again we heard the communication between the umpiring teams as they ensured that fairness and rules were enforced while the game remained as free-flowing as possible The interactions between umpires and players showed that everyone was working for the same goal The umpiring was superb and another huge positive for our sport The ruling may have a major impact on other home buyers because it sets a precedent for allowing fines, the paper said. Amstelveen has a policy of requiring people who buy some new property to live in the house or apartment themselves for at least 18 months and the clause is included in sales contracts. The council fined the woman €50,000 last year for refusing to live in the new Westhove apartment herself and took her to court in December when she refused to pay the penalty. The aim, Amstelveen alderman Herbert Raat told the paper, is to send a clear signal to property speculators who are buying up homes purely to rent out. ‘Many youngsters in Amstelveen would like to buy a home rather than pay rent to a housing corporation or private landlord all their lives. Your own home is, after all, the best pension.’ Amsterdam is also considering introducing a residency requirement for all new property and the city’s housing alderman Laurens Ivens said the court ruling is a welcome support for the plan. More than 20 different organisations took part in the first round-table talks and the groups are now looking into setting up an umbrella group, Gordon told the paper. ‘I understand that there is pressure on the housing market, and that people have to get used to each other,’ she said. ‘The council is moving with the times and I would prefer not to make the problem bigger than it really is.’ Are you an Indian national in Amstelveen? According to the Parool the victim was a Dutch Moroccan criminal named Rachid Kotar, a member of a gang embroiled in a long-running conflict with the Netherlands’ most wanted man Ridouan Taghi, but this has not been confirmed. A silver Volkswagen van, thought to be the getaway car, was found burned out in Duivendrecht a short while later. The Noord-Holland municipality told NH Nieuws that some residents still have not found a primary care physician available in their city where the goal is to actually have access to medical care in every neighborhood The city is launching a new plan to tackle the issue by developing their own medical workplaces which they can then rent out at an affordable price but doctors are often unable to pay commercial prices The wages and office costs they receive are fixed amounts set by the national government and are not subject to local price differences This is a poor decision and is unfair to doctors working in areas with a higher cost of living said the association representing general practitioners in the Amsterdam region The organization told NH Nieuws that the costs for a patient visit is fixed nationally but the rent is far more expensive in Amstelveen than Drenthe "It's very sad that there are patients walking around without a GP," they said The NZa noted in its report that the accessibility of healthcare is under pressure in many healthcare sectors this is partly caused by high absenteeism due to illness in healthcare “Absenteeism also increased in December 2023 compared to the previous month.” The waiting times in mental healthcare remain far too high pointing out that diagnosis times exceed the Treek standard in all categories of mental healthcare There are also still long waiting times for long-term care and specialist care but these are showing signs of decreasing in some regions A report of a man carrying a suspicious package on a bus from Schiphol Airport led to an intense situation in Amstelveen on Thursday afternoon A 67-year-old man from The Hague was taken into custody after police stopped the bus at the city's main bus station near the Stadshart shopping center Police first learned that the man had boarded the Connexxion line 300 bus towards Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena after 1 p.m The man had entered the bus "with a suspicious package possibly an explosive," police said in a statement Police said the situation was taken very seriously both because of the nature of the report and the credibility of the person who called the authorities The emergency response was scaled up rapidly and many police officers were sent to the scene A police helicopter also circled above the area "After contacting the bus driver in question the bus was stopped at the bus stop at Meander in Amstelveen Officers then cordoned off the area around the bus," police stated The suspect was identified based on his description Police said they managed to get the occupants to exit the vehicle without incident a police tactical team took him into custody The suspicious package was found on the bus The man was brought to a police station for questioning
