The children, a 6-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, were discovered overnight in Oudenaarde, East Flanders, just south of Ghent, according to RTV Oost. Authorities are now working to transfer them back to legal custody Residents of the Holtwiklanden neighborhood in Enschede had allegedly been alarmed by the father's increasingly unusual behavior. They told RTV Oost that he had been acting erratically in the days leading up to the abduction. On Sunday, he was seen parking his car in front of his house for hours, loading it with various items. Neighbors described seeing him place a shovel and heavy trash bags into his car. "He kept looking around nervously. It was all very suspicious," one resident told Oost. Another recalled seeing him the night before, sitting in his car with the lights off for an extended period. "When we asked if he was okay, he just laughed strangely." Police later confirmed on X that the raid on the Holtwiklanden house was connected to the abduction. "We are doing everything we can to bring the children to safety," authorities stated. "However, we cannot share specific details about the operation." Neighbors described the father as having become increasingly withdrawn after the end of his relationship. Once a practicing lawyer who advertised himself as a "specialist with extensive knowledge," he had turned into a recluse over the past year. He rarely interacted with others, kept his curtains drawn, and showed little sign of activity, according to what the locals told Oost. However, some noticed strange behavior in recent weeks. One resident recalled seeing him working outside his house in the middle of the night, seemingly laying tiles under bright construction lights. "It was bizarre," the neighbor said. Authorities emphasized that public assistance played a crucial role in the search. "The Amber Alert led to a flood of tips and observations, and we sincerely thank everyone who helped us in this case," police said. © 2012-2025, NL Times, All rights reserved. 2025 Photo: Depositphotos.comThe two children who were reported kidnapped from Dalfsen in the province of Overijssel on Monday morning have been found in good health in Belgium The brother and sister, aged six and 11, were located in Oudenaarde, south of Ghent, with the help of the Belgian authorities, police said. That family is also receiving counselling and support. "We can now share that we assume it was a kidnapping in a familial context," police said in a statement. "We do not want to give specific information about this, but we do think it is important to let it be known that this case does not concern random people involved." Despite the raid, police have not disclosed any specific leads regarding the children’s current location. Officials emphasized that a targeted local search would only be conducted if concrete evidence justified it. Authorities remain deeply concerned about the children’s well-being. “We don’t know where they are, and that’s why we’re calling on the public for help. Anyone with information should contact the police immediately,” the spokesperson added. Leya, described as 1.55 meters tall with light-colored eyes, and M’Qaydi, who is 1.25 meters tall with similar light-colored eyes, come from the same family and were living in a group home in Dalfsen. Their foster parents are receiving support from Namens de Familie, a foundation affiliated with Victim Support Netherlands, which assists families in crisis situations. Dalfsen’s acting mayor, Rikus Jager, has been briefed on the case and expressed serious concerns about the situation. “As far as I know, the children are originally from another municipality. There is significant worry over their safety,” he said. The authorities have chosen not to release the children’s last names, citing privacy concerns. “Sharing names and photos is already highly impactful for the children. Information on the internet can persist for a long time, which is why we are not disclosing their last names at this stage,” police explained. Authorities also urge anyone who may have seen the children or has relevant information to contact them immediately. Amber Alerts are issued in the Netherlands only when a missing child is believed to be in immediate danger. The system has been in use since 2008 and is activated just one or two times per year. Regional alerts, which are less severe, occur more frequently—around six to eight times per year. “The Amber Alert is a powerful tool that engages the entire nation in searching for a missing child in imminent danger,” police said. 2025 Dutch police have issued an Amber Alert for two children who went missing in the town of Dalfsen in Overijssel province on Monday morning Leya’nyssa (11) and M’qaydian (6) have been kidnapped and the case is “urgent” They did not say if the brother and sister were with one or more adults when they were last seen at Dalfsen railway station at around 8 am “We don’t know where they are and so we are asking the public for help,” a spokesman said “We would ask everyone for any information about where they could be to get in touch.” is some 1.55 metres tall and has light-coloured eyes M’qaydian is a six-year-old boy and his eyes too are pale Police say they do not know what clothes the children were wearing when they were taken The police have issued an Amber Alert for two missing children they suspect were abducted on Monday morning were last seen on Monday morning at around 8 a.m Authorities did not explain why they believe the two children were kidnapped It is unknown what clothing they are wearing," police said in a message issued on the citizen alert system Burgernet The police did not specify whether the two children are related but the alert names both children together Leya’nyssa is described as an 11-year-old girl the Amber Alert misstated Leya’nyssa's height as 1.25 meters The police said they were deeply concerned for the children’s well-being and have turned to the public for assistance Dalfsen is located approximately 15 kilometers east of Zwolle and about 35 kilometers west of the German border Authorities have urged anyone with information on the children’s whereabouts to contact the police immediately The police in the Netherlands only issue an Amber Alert when they believe that person is in immediate danger but are not believed to be in a threatening situation may become the subject of a Missing Child Alert “With the AMBER Alert, the police are calling on everyone to look out for a missing child whose life is in danger,” the Dutch police explained. The Overijssel municipality scored best on multiple indicators for “broad prosperity,” AD reports based on figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS). Dalfsen achieved average scores on the hard indicators like income and wealth. But its soft indicators were top. Schools and cafes are within walking distance, it has a high life expectancy, there is a reasonable amount of nature per inhabitant and a very high degree of social cohesion and mutual trust. Dalfsen also has low unemployment, hardly any crime, and a healthy population. The CBS data for the past three years shows that life is good in the Overijssel countryside. Dinkelland, Raalte, and Staphorst hold second to fourth position on the broad prosperity ranking. De Wolden, just across the border in Drenthe, is the first non-Overijssel municipality on the list in the fifth place. The first Randstad municipality is Ronde Venen, in 23rd place. The municipalities at the bottom of the broad prosperity rankings are in Limburg and Zuid-Holland. Heerlen is in last place with a high crime rate, low life expectancy, low income, and little social cohesion. Rotterdam is second-to-last, followed by Kerkrade, Brunssum, and Schiedam. The stats office noted a general divide between the north of the Netherlands and the Randstad and Noord-Brabant. The north scores well in areas like health, society, and the environment, while the Randstad and Noord–Brabant achieve high scores for material prosperity. CBS added that there may well be distortions in its broad prosperity figures. For example, many Randstad cities are bordered by municipalities with a lot of greenery, but they don’t count toward the city's prosperity. According to Mark Thissen, a broad welfare researcher at the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL), these distortions are particularly unfair for the Randstad and Noord-Braband. He isn’t surprised that Overijssel residents are happy, but he thinks Randstad and Noord-Brabant residents are better off than the statistics suggest. “Certainly municipalities on the outskirts of large cities are undervalued in this way,” Thissen explained to AD. “The amount of available work is higher because of jobs in the big city, and from a suburb, you are often quickly in the green, but that nature falls outside your own place of residence.” The same effect also applies to Limburg to a lesser extent. “Part of the prosperity in that region comes from Belgium or Germany, but that is not included either.” People also have different views on what “the good life’ is, the PBL researcher added. “Roosendalers and Amsterdammers see it differently. And they largely live where they live because they think they will be happy there.” Dutch Open in sambo sports style and in combat sambo was held on March 11 in Dalfsen. The Mayor of Dalfsen corrected his earlier report to Dutch radio that two had died, saying one person has died and 10 others are wounded. He told Dutch media 15 people had been on board at the time of the crash. Photos of the crash, in Dalfsen, 75 miles east of Amsterdam, show four carriages on their side, half on the track and half in a field. The crash happened around 9am local time, a spokesman for Prorail, the company that manages Dutch railways, said. Local residents said the crane had been crossing the line when the train ran into it. Many passengers have been rescued from the train, media reports say, adding that they are currently being treated by emergency services. Investigators are heading to the scene to determine the cause of the crash. More West Thebarton Adelaide rockers West Thebarton are back in action with the release of their latest single Desire — and an accompanying music video that ended up with the band being slapped with a hefty fine the shooting of the music video for Desire didn't quite go according to plan As the film crew captured the essence of the track and the band unleashed their energy the smoke machines cranked up a bit too much A visit from Adelaide's local heroes at the SA Metropolitan Fire Service and a fine amounting to a whopping $965 for the unplanned fire drill The band, however, are turning this unexpected twist into an opportunity for fans. They're encouraging everyone to check out the Desire music vid playfully suggesting that clicking on the link is a small price to pay for the chaos they inadvertently caused Desire serves as the latest single of West Thebarton's forthcoming new studio album Mongrel Australia due to drop March 22 Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter “Desire is the pull of the coast, the craving of passion and a feeling of irresistible release when you separate yourself from the world for a split second and escape,” frontman Ray Dalfsen explained to Pilerats. “I wrote it while reimagining a moment in time, being alone with the person you love, and life stops in its tracks. It might brew a lil milder than what you’re used to but it’s not a ‘fuck you’ to pub rock, more like a ‘keep the light on, I’ve gotta get away for a second, but I’ll be back soon.’” The record is set to be a follow-up to their 2018 debut, Different Beings Being Different, and features eleven tracks. Reverend Ray Dalfsen – the band’s zealous frontman – is delivering a sermon on all things rock ‘n’ roll “Mongrel Australia is that bloke in the bar who’s covered in tattoos and drinking a beer no one else is really drinking,” says ‘Reverend’ Ray Dalfsen when reflecting on West Thebarton’s long-awaited second album It’s just days before the March 22 release and you can hear the frontman thinking on the other side of the phone “As soon as you start to have a chat with the bloke you realise they’re a really warm person and that they’re going to give you a really fun night You can’t stop thinking that you judged him You realise [the night] is going to be something memorable.” but it’s fitting for one of the finest rock outfits South Australia has produced in the last decade Nick Horvat and Ray – have left the scene starved of a second album since dropping their runaway debut who’ve been penning Mongrel Australia’s 13 tightly-coiled tracks since 2019 “These songs have been written over quite a long stretch sent them to school and now we’re putting them in the real world Mongrel Australia takes the landscape of this sunburnt country – our people our triumphs – and distils it into 44 minutes and 34 seconds of noise The result is a record that feels like a left hook to the jaw and a big bear hug at the same time “I think you’re vulnerable when you start thinking more about life and the world What you’re doing and your place in it – all that kind of stuff,” muses Ray “We wrote Different Beings Being Different when we were so young – we wanted crazy rock ‘n’ roll guitars and everything had to be buzzsaw and I was yelling into the microphone we wanted to explore a little bit more of our personality that’s where the vulnerable component comes from: we’re a lot more comfortable now in sharing who we are.” Mongrel Australia doesn’t sacrifice West Theb’s signature gritty sound for softness the wall-to-wall fury of their firstborn album has been put through its paces the second time around grief and cancer are topics touched on in songs like ‘Slow’ and ‘Neck Pains’ feels muddied with frustration – a frustration levelled somewhat at this country’s resistance to change just to see some change,” Ray says on the four-minute track And while Mongrel Australia has resisted namechecking local watering holes or championing Adelaide’s western suburbs South Australia still courses through its veins We put it to Ray that sometimes the guitar riffs and licks woven through the album sound like a love letter to the band’s hometown and its famed ‘Adelaide sound’ He’s quick to tell us it’s never intentional “We’ve never really deliberately tried to be South Australian,” he says “But it sort of comes as an extension of our life experiences and who we are and being completely authentic on this record.” West Thebarton’s roots run deep through the state guitarist Josh Healey plays in bands like Energy Angel and Sleep Talk And before West Theb were cobbled together in suburban backstreets in 2013 multiple members had cut their teeth gigging on the local circuit for outfits like Horror My Friend who’s now the publican at the Golden Wattle used to write these twangy country songs but in the most rock ‘n’ roll way possible I was listening to this song we released years and years ago called ‘Lead Shoes’ ‘Jesus… this is really the pre-cursor of West Theb.’” beating heart of Mongrel Australia – and all that came before it – reflects the band’s life experiences It’s impressive for an outfit that often balances seven points of view the secret to success is a combination of trust “There were times when I spent double the amount of time with West Theb than I did with my family or friends And part of that is also having each other’s back who left West Theb in November last year after a decade with the group and recording Mongrel Australia “He was such an incredible influence on the band – he’s certainly a mind-boggling guitar player And he’s such a deep part of our history… we’re still best friends with him I think it goes beyond playing music together in a room.” the now six-piece will take to The Gov stage to launch Mongrel Australia – a gig that will set the pace for the remainder of West Theb’s tour “There’s something chaotic about an Adelaide crowd,” says Ray “Particularly the punters in the first five rows – they know it’s a West Theb show and they can go a little crazy.” Gigs are a good excuse for Ray to go a little crazy Anyone who’s caught the band live knows how well the frontman can wrangle a mosh pit and send punters into overdrive But the stage has also become something of a sanctuary for him – a world away from his nine to five grind working in the medical technology industry “It really revs me up when I get to go into West Theb mode,” he says “I think it’s really important to have a double life if you’re a musician because it makes it more fun It’s nice to have that completely compartmentalised life where I’ve split everything else from my musicianship.” Ray says West Thebarton plan to be on the road or in the studio as much as possible “Playing shows is something that brings a lot of pleasure to me and everyone in the band,” he says “And we’re gearing up now to do some more recording The fire is well and truly lit and we’re just stoking the flames The Note chats everyone was calling us dolewave ‘It’s this new dolewave band from Adelaide’,” lead singer and guitarist Ray Dalfsen says “We thought it was pretty funny how people throw words around that they think are cool just to add a bit of credibility to things You know when things get said about you and you find it a bit weird?” The single itself tackles the notion of romanticising living on the dole but some people on the outside tend to think that it’s really romantic carefree and that all artists on the dole do is party all the time drink all the time and do whatever they want without consequence This song comes from being frustrated by that lifestyle and from being uncomfortable with a label that attempts to lump the diversity of all the bands living like that into one scene,” Dalfsen says and one that’s thrown them into the mix with other talented Adelaide exports But despite the sudden claim to fame and one’s to watch lists the band have featured in “We don’t have too many tickets on ourselves and we like to have a good time,” Dalfsen says “I’ve played in a band for close to ten years now and it’s really cool to see we’re taking off now.” Part of the band’s appeal are the heavy riffs and garage rock sound made possible thanks to the four guitarists in the band It’s a challenging element to manage but one that they’re well on the way to mastering “Short answer is very difficult,” Ray explains of how four guitarists work on stage “Since we’ve been around for a while now it’s gotten easier and we had to make sure no one got hit by a guitar But it’s always good fun on the small stages because it’s really a battle of don’t hit the other players with your head stock.” That’s not to say a collision hasn’t happened before with Dalfsen confessing there has been a bloody eye as a result of a lapse in spacial awareness “I think it was actually Josh who got hit by the other Josh “It ended up cutting the top of his eye and he had a white shirt so blood was going everywhere.” how would the band actually describe themselves but I’ll do an amendment on it,” Ray says after much thought “Garage rock for the anxious at the heart.” The natural parents of 2 children carry a heavy stainless steel milker to each cow stanchion milk the milk and carry the milker back to a cooler He would then stand up on a stool pouring the milk through a filter and over a cooling radiator to get it cooled before going into the milk cans that grew to about 16 and then dad increased that to 32 milkers plus calves as Arnold and about 50 invited officials found out at a recent tour of Trinity Dairies owned and operated by Ralph Van Dalfsen and his family The tour was organized by the Kamloops Okanagan Dairyman’s Association (KODA) the organization that oversees 80 dairy farms in the Okanagan with the majority of farms being in the Salmon Arm Van Dalfsen’s clan milk 180 head on the property they’ve invested nearly a couple of million dollars into though they keep the old wooden barns that came with the property when they bought it There was also a small garden and an orchard where the family looked after their own needs to make extra money families shipped cream increasd hogs or poultry or had some beef cattle “That’s kind of what you see today; everybody has specialized either in poultry though hogs used to be a big deal in the area they’re pretty much non-existant today,” said Van Dalfsen Sara Van Dalfsen joined the family operation as a full-time milker and explained to the invited guests that no milking at Trinity Dairies is done by hand “The cows come into the parlour and are sprayed with disinfectant then we clean them off by hand and strip off any bacteria that may be in the teats,” said Sara “A machine is put on them and it automatically milks them out using a combination of suction and pulsation “The machine automatically comes off when the cow is down We then come along with another disinfectant and dip them with that That disinfectant protects the teat while it’s closing because it takes a bit of time for the teat to close after being milked.” It’s all done in a parlour built by the family eight years ago was literally called the Parlour Pit because workers would walk down into the pit located in one big concrete room with no air circulating workers can open a big garage door and put on a fan to circulate air and they can turn on built-in heaters for warmth in winter The cows are milked twice a day at Trinity Dairies each time taking three to three-and-a-half hours to complete The Van Dalfsens gave a complete tour of every aspect of their family operation in the morning – complete with an ultrasound on an expectant cow – then they invited officials to head over to the Riverside Community Hall in Ashton Creek for lunch and further industry discussions in the afternoon The 80 dairy farms in the North Okanagan-Shuswap ship about 105 million litres of milk per year and milk sales are approximately $83 million annually locally The economic impact of the industry to the North Okanagan-Shuswap is $432 million and there are 800 full and part-time jobs That was one of the main reasons for KODA to host the tour: to show the impact their industry has on the region Officials learned a number of farms carry about a $2 million debt load is a significant investment into the industry “We felt it was time for our organization to renew our relationship with local government,” said KODA president Henry Bremer of Enderby a second-generation farmer who works with his two sons at his family’s Cliffview Dairy Ltd a 150-head operation that’s been at its present location since 1974 “We are pleased with the interest shown by our regional politicians in our local dairy farm community The deeper understanding we have cultivated will benefit our local community for years to come.” RELATED: KODA to give officials tour “The tour was extremely well organized and well run I thoroughly
