Man City have made a offer for PSV Eindhoven striker Jason van Duiven as they look to secure his long-term future
The Citizens have only completed one signing so far this summer with Savinho joining from Troyes on a five-year deal after helping Girona to qualify for the Champions League in a loan spell last season
With uncertainty surrounding Pep Guardiola’s future
there has been speculation that a number of players could take the opportunity to leave this summer with Kevin de Bruyne
Jack Grealish and others linked with transfers
But Man City are also making moves to bring in players with reports in the Netherlands insisting that the Citizens have ‘offered a large amount’ to sign Van Duiven from Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven
Van Duiven was on loan at Almere City in the second half of last season with the 19-year-old yet to make an appearance for PSV’s senior side – but Man City see his potential
Matheus Nunes is one player who could be on his way out at the Etihad Stadium this summer after moving from Wolves for £53m just 12 months ago
Football Insider claims the Citizens ‘will accept’ a big-money offer for Nunes this summer with former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson claiming the Premier League side would be happy for a Saudi Pro League club to “bail them out”.
Borson told Football Insider: “I suspect Villa selling Diaby isn’t about PSR, it’s more about getting their money back for a player they think they can improve on.
“I think Man City would do it with Nunes in a similar way. They paid about £50million for him last summer. The player hasn’t really worked.
“If they could get Saudi to effectively bail them out by taking the player at the same price they paid, take a small PSR profit or neutral accounting profit overall by the time you have paid everybody’s expenses, sometimes you just take those deals.”
Julian Alvarez is another player linked heavily with a move away from Man City and the Argentina striker insists he “will decide” his future after the Olympic games.
Speaking ahead of Argentina’s match against Ukraine, Alvarez said: “There is a lot of talk.
“I am focused here [at the Olympics] because it is a short tournament. At Manchester City I feel very good, I played a lot of minutes.
“But we will see after the Games. First, if I can, I will take a few days off. Then we will decide.”
When asked recently about Alvarez’s future at Man City, Guardiola said: “I don’t think about replacing. I know he wants to play in important moments, but the other players [want that] too.
“We have 18 or 19 players who want to play in the important games. I read he has to think about it, so OK, think about it and after that he will inform us what he wants to do.”

Nowhere is this truer than for rail intermodal, where the congestion and disruption of freight during the pandemic and recovery have caused material share shift to truck, as well as extreme frustration, substandard service, and excess costs for all stakeholders. Two examples illustrate how independent behaviors by shippers and a lack of cooperative action have impacted system performance:
Ultimately, tradeoffs among stakeholders will be necessary, but the benefits for the system are compelling (better service, higher productivity, reduced costs, higher asset utilization). A few ideas for cooperation that we believe could make a difference for rail intermodal include:
Changes such as these would benefit shippers, dray providers, terminal operators, and rail carriers by unlocking incremental value in rail intermodal and avoiding costly capacity expansion when there is latent capacity available.
We consistently underreport, underestimate, and undervalue the collective impact of individual shipper decisions on overall system efficiency and reliability. The industry needs more mechanisms that incentivize and protect shippers who have network-enhancing shipping patterns, and operating and commercial policies that prevent or minimize the impact of individual shipper behaviors that damage the overall performance of the network for everyone.

As part of our year-end series "Life's Voices," we profile Ginger Duiven
executive director of Literacy Services of Wisconsin
The series features people in the community who’ve devoted their lives or careers to helping others
Duiven has seen the skills it provides completely change lives
“It’s very typical for people to come in with a deep sense of shame and embarrassment
especially those who have been non-readers and are concealing it from the rest of the world,” Duiven says
“It’s a big source of embarrassment for people…they come in with their head down
the typical features that you would expect from someone who doesn’t have any confidence
it changes just how they are in the world.”
“In this particular area it’s incredibly diverse
People come to us who are illiterate in their own language and then we have students who come to us who may actually have multiple languages
Duiven became executive director a year ago
Her earlier career included a decade at The Urban Ecology Center
Duiven felt compelled to take on a new challenge
“My master’s degree changed my life completely
It was something I set out to do kind of later in life and after I did it I thought
I can really see how these intense educational experiences
can make huge impacts on peoples’ lives,” Duiven says

She had four kids at home and she could see that they were at that stage that they were kind of watching her closely and mimicking her and kind of doing whatever she did.”
Duiven says Neri worked for a year-and-a-half on basic literacy
then began working on her high school equivalency
all four of her kids went from being C and D students to becoming A and B students and ending up on the honor role by the time she graduated,” she says
Duiven says Neri’s success also propelled her mother and two sisters to enroll in programs at Literacy Services

The investment aims to address the industry’s reportedly urgent need for handling recyclable plastic packaging material
Food packaging solution manufacturer Faerch has opened a new polyethylene terephthalate (PET) tray line at its Cirrec recycling plant in Duiven
The line’s opening event included keynote speeches from sustainability experts
who advocated for a ‘Net Positive’ approach to resource management
The new PET line represents a significant investment over five years
aimed at addressing the need for handling recyclable plastic packaging material
Faerch’s initiative is also a significant step towards circularity
with nine billion of its products currently made of PET
a material that can be recycled indefinitely.
The company aims to create a global commodity of circular tray material
with the Cirrec plant reportedly being a critical component in this mission
Faerch CEO Lars Gade Hansen said: “This is not just a day of celebration for Faerch Group; it is a symbol of our commitment to reshaping a broken system and moving our industry from linear to circular business practice.
Don’t let policy changes catch you off guard
Stay proactive with real-time data and expert analysis
“This transformation calls for collaborative efforts
and the invitation to our stakeholders to join us today also stands as an invitation to shape the road forward together with us.”
The Cirrec plant is poised to make a substantial impact on the packaging industry
with Faerch holding a 20% market share and selling approximately 24 billion products annually
The company said it is working towards converting materials from polystyrene (PS) and polypropylene (PET) to PET to achieve 100% circularity
In February this year, the company launched its new Tumbler range
designed with a minimum of 30% post-consumer recycled material

Arne Slot backs Pep Guardiola over Club World Cup player fatigue concerns
Guardiola: “Impossible to replace” Kevin De Bruyne at Manchester City
Manchester City is showing strong interest in Jason van Duiven
a promising 19-year-old forward from PSV Eindhoven
Although van Duiven has yet to make his debut for PSV's senior team
he has been a prolific scorer in youth teams and spent last season on loan at Almere City
is looking to acquire van Duiven with the help of their sister club
The plan is for van Duiven to gain experience with Lommel before potentially making a move to City or the Premier League
Van Duiven began his football career at FC Twente but joined PSV in 2018
he is also versatile enough to play effectively on the right wing
is part of PSV's youth setup and has been making waves in the Dutch youth leagues
Both van Duiven brothers are highly talented
with Robin also demonstrating significant potential in youth competitions
a future transfer to Manchester City or another Premier League club could be on the horizon

18-years-old – PSV Eindhoven – Striker
Some great strikers have worn the famous red and white of PSV Eindhoven over the years
and one hoping to become the starting nine from the club’s academy is Jason van Duiven
Van Duiven has been outstanding since making the step up to Jong PSV in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie
Van Duiven has scored 21 times in the Dutch second tier in 48 appearances
He was also the top scorer for the PSV side that won the Premier League international cup last season with five goals
An ice-cold finisher Van Duiven is not the tallest but he uses his strength
and positional sense to get the better of defences
He comes alive in the penalty area but Van Duiven is also a scorer of exceptional goals
whether it be free kicks or lobs from distance
He is waiting for his first-team debut but has appeared on the bench this season
Peter Bosz has Luuk de Jong and Ricardo Pepi ahead of him in the pecking order
but Van Duiven is ready to step in when required
19-years-old – AZ Alkmaar – Centre-back
It has been a wonderful 12 months for Wouter Goes
who captained AZ to the UEFA Youth League title while also debuting in the club’s first team
Goes is a natural leader and he has shown exceptional maturity when given a chance by Pascal Jansen so far
He already has 16 first-team appearances under his belt and is currently the captain of Jong AZ
Goes is aggressive in his pursuit of the ball and shows similarities to Sven Botman and Matthijs de Ligt in the way he plays
He has an exceptional future ahead of him and will soon be an undisputed starter in the AZ first team
19-years-old – AZ Alkmaar – Winger
The son of Netherlands legend Mark van Bommel
Ruben has made a big impression over the past year after starring for MVV Maastricht in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie
Van Bommel was unstoppable in the second tier
which led to AZ Alkmaar swooping to take him to the Eredivisie
He has been a regular for Pascal Jansen so far this season
Van Bommel still has areas of his game to work on but the potential to be a top-quality forward is there
Van Bommel’s style of play and stature have seen him compared to Angel Di Maria in the Dutch press
while he is reminiscent of Cody Gakpo at times
AZ Alkmaar’s form this season has not been great and Van Bommel has a lot more to offer in the coming months
then a debut in the Netherlands squad won’t be too far off
18-years-old – Ajax – Midfielder
One of the bright spots of a difficult campaign for Ajax has been the emergence of Silvano Vos into the first team
A star for the club and the Netherlands at youth level
Vos could not be ignored anymore and was thrust into the first team this season
an injury has ruled Vos out since November but when he returns
a place in the first-team squad is assured
Vos covers a lot of ground on the pitch and wins a lot of duels with his strength and awareness
Vos is a strong dribbler and can break the lines with ease
much like Ryan Gravenberch did when in Amsterdam
Not many decisions have gone right in Amsterdam this season but the decision to promote Vos to the first team has been one of them
Along with Jorrel Hato and Gabriel Misehouy
Vos can form the spine of the new Ajax for years to come
18-years-old – Borussia Dortmund – Striker
An absolute goal machine at the youth level
Julian Rijkhoff has made a name for himself in Dortmund but now could be seeking first-team football elsewhere
Rijkhoff was seen as a new Patrick Kluivert when coming through the Ajax academy but then decided to leave and join Borussia Dortmund in 2021
Rijkhoff has since been unstoppable at U19 level
plus 13 times more in the UEFA Youth League
The striker has made minutes and scored during pre-season for Borussia Dortmund’s first team but as of yet
Rijkhoff is a deadly finisher with either foot and his head
He seems to have it all to be an exceptional striker but until he makes the step up fully to first-team football
we will not know for sure if he can reach his potential
Ajax wants to bring Rijkhoff back to Amsterdam and a move away from Germany may be the best idea for Rijkhoff to make his full breakthrough
then Rijkhoff can be the starting striker for the Netherlands for years to come

Text description provided by the architects. The new head office for the energy grid company Alliander in Duiven (The Netherlands) was recently inaugurated. RAU architects is responsible for the renovation of the existing buildings and the extension, which will house 1550 workers. This is the first renovation project in The Netherlands to obtain the BREEAM-NL outstanding sustainability certificate.
Floor PlanThe facades of the existing buildings are maintained, including the windows, and a “skin” is attached to them, improving the insulation value, avoiding heat losses and reducing the energy demand. On the sides, which are oriented towards the atrium, larger windows, which can be opened, are placed, creating a close visual relation with the atrium and allowing natural ventilation.
© Marcel van der BurgEfficiency and effectiveness are guiding principles throughout the design. In intervention, material use, footprint, costs and burdening of the environment. In return, functionality, comfort, innovation, identity and a positive impact on society are achieved.
The building complex provides more energy than needed, which can be used by “neighbours” in the surroundings through the Smart Grid, starting a Green Alliance in the community. The design of the building optimizes the use of energy, the design of the roof stimulates natural ventilation, and the atrium becomes a “second skin” for the closed volumes, creating an in between climate which optimizes the energy use.
© Marcel van der BurgThanks to the use of solar panels and underground water for thermal storage, it is also CO2 neutral. The solar panels are placed in the parking as shading and protection for the cars, giving them a double function. Since these were placed first, it was possible to achieve an energy positive building site for the first time in the Netherlands.
© Marcel van der BurgThe consortium for the Design & Build of Alliander in Duiven consists of VolkerWessels Vastgoed

Where the Russian River winds and wraps around Fitch Mountain and Healdsburg
Many flock to the cold water at Veterans Memorial Beach
but could there be another place for people to dip their toes
or at least that’s the name Eric Arneson’s giving it
"The main goal of this design is basically to connect people to the river," Arneson said
A landscape architect based in Santa Barbara
and he's spent plenty of time swimming in the Russian River
"It was always such a beautiful experience
then at the very end when we're getting to the Memorial Beach
"The majority of the riverfront in Healdsburg proper is actually occupied by the gravel site," Arneson said
A gravel mine and asphalt plant sits just upstream from the Healdsburg Memorial Bridge and popular Veterans Memorial Beach on Healdsburg Avenue
Syar Industries has owned the site since 1986
though the mining site has been in operation for more than 75 years
An important aggregate for industrial and construction uses
gravel has been mined from the Russian River since the 1800’s Arneson noted
"It is a service that we need to build things," Arneson said
we need asphalt; but is right on the Russian River inside the town of Healdsburg the best spot for that?"
There’s been no mining at Syar’s Bendway site for over 20 years
according to Healdsburg Community Development Director Scott Duiven
"My understanding is that the permits they had for removing gravel have expired and they were doing some operational stuff out there
I think there's not much going on out there anymore," Duiven said
Syar was purchased by fellow materials company Vulcan in 2022
Arneson noted that Vulcan leases the property
"This is one of the sites that they're looking to abandon because I think they see that writing on the wall that we can't extract gravel here
and it's basically just a giant lot," Arneson said
told KRCB News they plan to exit the site once the lease expires in August 2025
Earlier this year, the 88-acre property was listed for sale as an “outstanding development opportunity."
It's being marketed as prime real estate for a hotel and luxury mixed use development
and that's come as no surprise for Arneson
"I knew that some developer would come out and say
this is going to become a giant beer garden
adult playground kind of thing with a bunch of houses crammed in it," Arneson said
"[I] wanted to come up with something that would actually be beneficial for the people of Healdsburg that live there
despite the potential for redevelopment of the large property
A real estate broker handling the property’s sale declined to comment to KRCB News
Arneson said he thinks converting part of the Syar site to park land would fill an important hole in Healdsburg’s fabric
"There's not currently a really good connection to the river," Arneson said
"There's Veterans Memorial Beach park there
"What I was re-imagining was something that kind of integrates you into the riparian forest and the local ecologies
and the native ecosystem of the river," Arneson said
First introduced in 2016 as his undergraduate thesis project at Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Arneson’s re-imagination of the Bendway riverfront garnered an award from the American Society of Landscape Architects
integrating the contours of the park with the shifting environment of the Russian River remains a big emphasis of the design
"It also works well with the seasonal flooding that will definitely occur every single year," Arneson said
"So I designed a pathway that is at an elevation that would be above the hundred year floodplain that would not only serve as a year round access throughout the park
but it would also serve as somewhat of a levee wall."
"Along certain points of this pathway there would be descending staircases and accessible ramps
which would lead to the riverfront," Arneson said
"We really wanted to come up with a proposal that made it as easy as possible to access the river."
Arneson also pointed out that “access” doesn’t simply mean physical accessibility
"Making it free so you don't have to pay to park here
"[Because] Veterans Memorial Park is something that you have to pay
we want to make it something that's for everybody that lives here."
The decades of gravel mining and commercial activity have left their impacts on the river
most visibly the industrial infrastructure; but much like Seattle’s landmark Gas Works Park
Arneson feels there’s a place for the Bendway’s remnants of industry
celebrate the transformation," Arneson said
but keeping these elements reminds us of what it used to be
They're also quite monumental and impressive when you stand up next to [them]."
He said none more so than the imposing conveyor towers
a lot of people thought of them as a smokestack of some kind
but they're actually conveyor belt support structures," Arneson said
"There was like a conveyor belt on top of them
and that was for extracting gravel straight from the beach
these things are massive and it's really a testament for how much land that they moved and transformed."
While Arneson said he hopes to see the Bendway leave its extractive history in the past
he also envisions a useful future for the area beyond recreation
"I'm proposing a fairly large storm water basin that would be able to capture hundreds of thousands of gallons of water in every storm event
and then this would percolate back into the groundwater system," Arneson said
Arneson says he is also realistic about the Bendway’s future
"Part of the design is also allocating a certain portion of the site to a developer
"It's the fact of the world that someone needs to make money to make things happen," Arneson said
and then maybe some light industrial or something
More than anything Arneson imagines a future Bendway with a place for everyone
"My design is not something that I want to see really implemented exactly," Arneson said
So any type of park in any shape or form I think would be a success in this scenario."
"The worst thing we want to see is a hotel abutting straight up along the river," Arneson said
"I think that would be a disaster on so many levels."
that's the roughly 160 acre pocket of Healdsburg east of the Memorial Bridge
are a ways off according to Community Development Director Scott Duiven
"That area currently has no municipal services," Duiven said
and so the city's general plan has long called for the preparation of a plan that would look at
the appropriateness of industrial uses along that stretch of the river
how to maximize public access along and to the river
Duiven said a 'specific plan' will have to come first
"So we're at the beginning in terms of the fact that we've identified the need for planning effort in that area
but we have not commenced a planning effort
which would involve robust community engagement and input," Duiven said
"We recognize that that particular property is a really important property given its size
but also given the fact that I think it has almost a mile of riverfront and there's certainly some level of community benefit that could come along with future development that includes public access and recreational type of amenities," Duiven said
it's too early in that process to really say what that's gonna look like."
While a park of the magnitude of Arneson’s Bendway isn’t happening tomorrow
Duiven noted the city is looking to make the river accessible on the opposite bank
and they're looking at some improvements that would provide access to the river from that side," Duiven said
even with the competing visions and clear hurdles for the Bendway’s future
that a park with room for everyone will one day come to be
and they should have this on their radar as something that can definitely be a huge asset for not only Healdsburg
to have this riverfront space accessible to the public," Arneson said

The Danish packaging manufacturer Faerch group officially opened its new recycling plant in Duiven
the site has an input capacity of 60,000 tonnes per year and is operated by group subsidiary
It will process post-consumer PET trays collected from households across the region using a mechanical recycling process
Cirrec specialises in the mechanical recycling of PET and aims to close the loop for rigid food packaging
Faerch claims to hold a 20 per cent share of the global plastic packaging market
representing approximately 24 billion products sold each year
The new Cirrec plant meant that around three billion of these products would be truly circular
The group has set itself a target of leading the conversion from polystyrene and polypropylene to PET in packaging and creating a fully circular economy
Faerch said that it currently achieved circularity for around 13 per cent of the items that it sells
which traded as 4PET Recycling up until June 2023
sorting and mechanical recycling of PET trays and cups in Europe
Cirrec reportedly recycled the equivalent of 1.2 billion food trays in 2022
The company has operated a tray-to-tray recycling plant in Duiven since 2018
According to Faerch’s sustainability report
the firm produced about 12,000 tonnes of recycled PET out of post-consumer trays last year

Jason van Duiven joined PSV Academy six years ago
The Almelo native showed exceptional qualities
head strong and has a high speed of action
In 2022-2023 in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie
he was considered the regular striker of Young PSV
where it has not yet come to an official debut due to stiff competition
he continued scoring goals; his season total now stands at six
He also gained experience in the prestigious UEFA Youth League and was part of the team that won the Premier League International Cup last year
Confidence PSV expresses its confidence in Jason through the contract extension
says Director Earnest Stewart: "He has proven in recent years to be a very talented striker
We are therefore very pleased that we have succeeded in keeping him with vs for longer
to ensure that he continues to develop in the coming period
At Almere City he will get the chance to show himself in the Eredivisie."
UK COMPANY Carbon8 Systems will run its first energy-from-waste (EfW) pilot project at an AVR site in the Netherlands that will use captured carbon dioxide (CO2) and waste to create material for the construction industry
Carbon8 has developed accelerated carbonisation technology which can combine industrial waste residues and captured CO2 to produce useful products
The patented carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) technology is employed in so-called “CO2tainer” systems
which Carbon8 describes as “carbon capture in a box”
a CO2tainer will be installed at energy-from-waste (EfW) company AVR’s plant in Duiven
The EfW plant processes waste from about 1.5m households each year
Captured CO2 from the flue gas emissions will be combined with fly ash – a waste product from coal smoke – to produce manufactured aggregate for use in the construction industry
Aggregates are typically defined as being hard
granular materials suitable to use on their own or in combination with cement
Carbon8’s accelerated carbonisation process produces “high-value
light weight aggregates suitable for concrete applications”
The CO2tainer will make use of CO2 from the EfW plant’s flue gas that would normally be captured and sold directly
The Duiven pilot plant is expected to produce 100 t of building product for validation and use
with more potential to use more of the plant’s CO2 in the future
About 10 t of CO2 will be required to manufacture the building product in the pilot
The plant is currently being installed and once operational will run for about eight weeks
Carbon8’s carbonisation technology can also be employed in the steel and paper industries
the EfW company is looking to make the best use of its CO2 emissions and the ash produced at its plant and has an ultimate target of achieving zero waste
Co-Founder and Technical Director of Carbon8
said that Carbon8 is pursuing a two-phase strategy for deploying its technology in the global EfW sector
and it that is successful it will move into commercial operation
we will do this at Duiven or elsewhere within AVR’s operations in The Netherlands”
Carey added: “Given the level of flue gas emissions from EfW plants and the need to stop ash going to landfill – and not forgetting the high cost of doing so – we see significant business opportunities for our CO₂tainer in the EfW sector – in Europe and worldwide.”

New road hubs in Novara in Italy and Duiven in the Netherlands
have further boosted capacity across FedEx’s already impressive European road network
in an exclusive interview with Parcel & Postal Technology International
FedEx Express claims its European road network is one of the fastest in Europe
with customers able to reach some destinations in just 24 hours – and most within 48 hours
“FedEx currently connects about 220 territories and countries across the globe
with about 700 aircraft and more than 200,000 motorized vehicles and trucks
moving around 16.5 million packages per day,” explained Martin Gussinklo
senior VP of the European road network at FedEx Express
so it’s quite an important year for us not only here in Europe because of the new hubs that we have opened but also for the entire business.”
The hubs Gussinklo refers to are state-of-the-art facilities in Novara
The FedEx European road network consists of 28 such hubs
with a weekly total of 50,000 line-haul movements across 45 countries
FedEx has always had a presence here in Europe
it built an important but modest footprint
serving as a foothold for our international business,” continues Gussinklo
that all changed in 2016 when FedEx Corp spent €4.4bn (US$4.8bn) to acquire TNT Express
at the time one of the world’s largest express delivery companies
handling nearly one million consignments of documents
parcels and freight per day through its road and air delivery services in Europe
“The [TNT] acquisition gave us instant skill and scope here in Europe
an unparalleled road network,” notes Gussinklo
“It’s one of the largest and fastest in Europe – and what makes it so unique is that we move both parcel and freight within the same network
It connects about 45 countries via 28 road hubs across the region
handling about 1,300,000 shipments per day.”
Gussinklo points to some impressive stats: “We reach about 54% of European destinations within two days and about 84% of European destinations within three days
depending on the origin/destination pair.”
Together with the nearby Milan Malpensa Airport
where FedEx operates its main Italian air gateway
the new Novara Road Hub will play a key role in Italy’s national network
adding greater reliability and continuous improvement in on-time performance
Described by FedEx as the largest and most technologically advanced of its European road hubs
the new facility is located on a 210,000m2 site
with two main buildings occupying 32,000m2 and 240 truck docks providing separate processing of freight and parcels
Some 450 employees deal with 245 incoming trucks and 265 outgoing trucks every day across the site
The 9,400m2 warehouse dedicated to heavy or bulky goods (freight) is able to handle 4,000 shipments per hour and the 22,600m2 parcel-focused building houses a dedicated parcel sorter from Fortna
with a total conveyor-belt length of 3.73km and the capacity to process 21,600 packages and 8,000 small parcels and documents per hour
“We are splitting parcel and freight operations [between dedicated buildings] so that we can better optimize the line of equipment that we use to move across Europe,” explains Gussinklo
“We do that on the parcel side by loose-loading our vehicles so you can fully optimize the vehicle
we utilize the double-decking capability inside our trailers to be able to also optimize capacity as much as we can.”
The company is now working to drastically reduce loading cage use
replacing them with loose loading so we can load more volume into a vehicle
which will have a positive effect on the number of trucks that we utilise within the network,” says Gussinklo
we are utilising double- or even triple-deck capability in our trailers to really optimize the space that we have for those movements
Both actions have helped us to remove unnecessary line-haul movements
which has had a very positive impact on the sustainability targets that we have set for ourselves.”
Further environmentally friendly touches at the LEED Gold-certified Novara site include easy access to a bicycle path and plenty of bicycle parking
while a company-provided collective mobility system and active promotion of car-pooling further reduce vehicle emissions
Open spaces with pedestrian paths and garden areas help reduce the volume of water runoff
while native species have been planted to ease irrigation requirements
High-efficiency lamps and the implementation of a building management system
while outdoor lighting has been designed to minimize light pollution at night
Employees benefit from the latest HVAC technology
with primary air supplied to each room purified through high-performance filters
and CO2 sensors placed in densely occupied rooms to monitor air quality
each occupant can adjust the level of artificial lighting in their location according to personal comfort
The new 24,000m2 hub sits on a 148,000m2 site and features a new state-of-the-art sorter that can process approximately 200,000 parcels per day
With more than three times the capacity of the previous road hub
it also features more dock doors (more than 200) and improved yard operations
including new gates for quicker entry and a 20% increase in the trailer parking area
The hub and outside areas have been designed to enhance safety
with a full split between employee and operational movement as well as separate parcel and freight processing to increase efficiency and reduce forklift movement
LED technology for internal and external lighting
and the new parcel sorter produces 20% less noise
we took two non-road-hub-related activities [a pickup and delivery and a value-added logistics operation] out of the building,” explains Gussinklo
“It is now completely dedicated to serving as a European road hub
We also replaced the old equipment with a new crossbelt sorter from Beumer
Beyond the new parcel sorting equipment installed at both sites
Gussinklo says the capture and analysis of key data has also been critical: “There’s been a lot of investment in raw data to get a better insight into the volume that we have to handle when it comes in
We want to make sure that we only handle the volume that needs to be handled at the moment it comes in
There is always what we call ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ volume
with ‘hot’ needing to move as quickly as possible to the next location or to the customer
while the ‘cold’ doesn’t have to be handled immediately and can be dealt with in the next sort
Having that insight really helps us to create more capacity within our facilities just by focusing on handling the type of volume that we need to handle within a certain sort window.”
The ability to move both parcel and freight in a single network is a unique feature of the FedEx Europe value proposition
meaning customers can ship both with a single provider and using a single interface
according to Gussinklo: “We can offer the customer a one-stop shop – no matter what they have
they can always hand it over to us and we can handle it all within the same network
they do not have that same capability in one network.”

This has been a remarkable year for Billy Corito
now a semi-professional fighter on the European Boxing Federation books since December 2011
Davey Clarke in April and Eric Thompson in July
These fights had a common outcome – the Maltese boxer powerfully knocking down his challengers in all three instances and in so doing stretching his record to nine KO victories out of ten fights with the other bout won on points
Corito is the holder of the EBF intercontinental heavyweight belt and ranks sixth in the federation’s rankings for the category
Corito faces what is being des-cribed as his most difficult fight yet when he takes on 6’ 3” Dutchman Harry Duiven Jr whose impressive record reads – 23 fights with 15 wins (KOs 13)
was also champion of The Netherlands in kickboxing and Thai Boxing
He is an experienced K1 and MMA fighter with a predominately positive winning record
Duiven has only ever fought the best within the EBF ranks with his losses coming to Mark Potter
who have all been ranked no.1 in the European list at some time in their careers
the organisers of next month’s Boxing Spectacle at the Dolmen Hotel
the EBF in conjunction with local promoter Paul Borg
have announced the names of the foreign boxers and their Maltese challengers
another attraction on the night will be the EBF Super Middleweight title fight between Dione Galea and Jason Curtis (UK)
The rest of the programme will feature the following bouts – Tyrone Borg vs Jack Butler
Lydon Chircop vs Raja Afzal and Carl Spiteri vs Daniel Helwitt
A limited number of tickets for the Boxing Spectacle will be selling at €30 (VIP)
These are available from the London Butcher
