A 34-year-old woman from Emmeloord whose baby was bitten to death by a dog in August will be prosecuted
which is a mix of an American Staffordshire terrier and a pitbull
The woman is being charged with "culpable homicide and failure to ensure that a dangerous animal is kept harmless," a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service said
The spokesperson confirmed earlier reporting by regional broadcaster Omroep Flevoland
The incident happened at the end of August in an apartment on Staalstraat
The victim was brought to the Antonius hospital in Emmeloord
Whether the child was alive upon arrival at the hospital was never publicly revealed
An examination and autopsy on the child's body revealed that it had been bitten to death
The woman's case will be heard on September 25 in the District Court in Lelystad
Junior rider Rosalie Bos and young rider Stephanie Kooijman were the winners at the second leg of the 2014 CHIO Cup competition for Dutch youth riders
The second qualifier was held in Emmeloord
on 23 March 2014 and the riders had to contest the team championship test
The Weert based Rosalie Bos outclasses more seasoned combinations on her 8-year old Dutch bred mare Bolita (by Uptown)
Bos scored a strong 74.41% and referred Dutch team rider Jasmien de Koeyer on Take it Easy (by Florestan) to second place with 73.83%
2013 European Championship individual medalist Jeanine Nekeman slotted in third on her bay gelding Vlingh (by Flemmingh) with 73.385%
Judge Monique Peutz was very pleased with the level in the junior division
"Rosalie Bos rode a very nice test in which there was much harmony," she said
Peutz was also very happy with De Koeyer's performance
"Take it Easy shows a lot of expression in trot
There is beautiful harmony in this combination
The turns on the haunches could have been ridden more precisely." Peutz said about Nekeman that "with this combination the walk is very strong and the walk pirouettes were ridden nice and small
In canter Vlingh could have a bit more jump."
In the young riders Stephanie Kooijman wielded the axe of power with both her horses
she claimed victory on a 73.99% and with the young and inexperienced Don Presidente (by Dauphin) she finished second with 72.32%
Don Presidente is owned by the Smarius family and was initially trained by Imke Schellekens but Kooijman has now taken over the ride
The show in Emmeloord was the first of the new pair
Jeanine Nieuwenhuis and Baldacci (by Havidoff) were third with 70.79%
extended trot and tempi changes," said judge Mirjam Drenth
consistent image in which the horse has much expression
The pair showed great transitions to the extensions but also into the collection." Drenth also commented on Nieuwenhuis' performance and said that it was "a very correct test with strong canter movements
Sometimes we missed some length in the neck and then the expression got lost a bit

It is likely that you haven't heard from me for a long time and that is why I write this blogpost
First of all I hope that this message finds you in good health and that you and those around you are doing well
Maybe you know that I have left the Zen Centre Noorder Poort where I used to live since October 2019
and the reasons for me leaving are multiple
I will not go into detail but whenever we meet again I will be able to tell you more about this
Ever since I left Noorder Poort I have been travelling
because I did not want to settle again right away
so that is a good opportunity to go and see other places and fulfill some wishes that I have
During January I stayed at a small place called "Zinnowitz"
It is located at the shore of the Baltic Sea
By the end of January I left Zinnowitz and went back to the Netherlands
where I stayed with my friends Lori and Robert and their kids
During this time I have been finishing off my homework for the certification of Lama Tsultrim Alliones proces of "Feeding Your Demons"
At this point I want to take the opportunity to thank Lori and Robert for their hospitality and help
The weather has been very nice in February and so I took some pictures of my former hometown
In February I also had the opportunity to meet a few friends of mine
I went to Utrecht for example in order to see Nicole
There I took a picture of a beautiful poem which was in Dutch
but I translated it for you as well as I could:
sometimes you reach the highest spot and there
And this poem actually catches very well what my journey is about..
On the 27th of February I packed my backpack and left Emmeloord by bus and went to Kampen where I stepped on the train to Hamburg in order to stay at my parents place for the next two weeks
During these two weeks I attended the last online retreat of the Feeding Your Demons Certification Program and it has been a quite exciting time because I was able to meet Lama Tsultrim via zoom
which was my very first dharma talk in that sense
after 1 1/2 years and more than 108 demon feedings
uncountable hours of studies and meditation I finally received my certificate
stating that I am a certified FYD facilitator
And I already had to prepare for the next stage
But first it was my birthday and on that day it had been snowing..
My next stage would lead me to an ashram of Yoga Vidya
located close to the North Sea just outside a town called "Horumersiel"
And for the first time in years I did not recover as quickly as I am used to
So I arrived at the ashram and really became ill
because being Karma Yogi you stay in a dormitory
After a couple of days I slowly recovered but I left a few days earlier due to a lack of energy
I did not really like the atmosphere of the ashram
The people were nice and kind but there was a lack of ..
on the 8th of April I went back to the Netherlands
to Zen River Temple for a different zen experience
really different from what I had experienced so far in regard to zen
It is a beautiful location and the people there are very friendly and helpful
This is by the way what happens if you leave a can of PUR foam unattended..
(They were having an insulation project at Zen River Temple during the time of my stay)
After leaving Zen River Temple I have been staying with friends again due to several obligations
My next stage led me to Arhanta Yoga Ashram in the Netherlands for a Hatha Yoga Teacher Training
but luckily I had been living a monastic life earlier
Unfortunately I did not take any pictures of the location
Maybe it is because I am so sure to return there one day for another training
But als the ashram was located some 10 k from the border to Germany I took the bus on a free day (those days were really scarce by the way...) and visited Dinxperlo
which shares the main street with a German village
you crossed the street and went from the Netherlands to Germany
because I am a sortlike split personality :)
but maybe you can see the German street names and the Dutch street names
the schedule was intense and everybody was almost freaking out because we had to pass two exams
I still have to put the two dots on the "O"
On the very last day a few of our group went to a hotel nearby to have some coffee and lunch as some sort of last farewell
Then the group split up and I was being taken by a fellow German student to the train station in Bocholt
She dropped me there as she had to go that direction anyway
I hope it was not too much text and that you enjoyed the nice pictures
I am thinking you often but it is quite hard to stay in touch all the time when travelling
especially when you do not have a lot of privacy and spare time
I hope I could make up with you by writing this blog post
And I will try to write on a more regular base
I will leave on the 19th of June with a stopover at Dharmahaus Euskirchen
and at the 21st of June I will hopefully arrive at the Zen Buddhistisches Zentrum Schwarzwald
I will stay there until the 12th of June and then travel further to France
I am very much looking forward to the next stages
All the best and thank you all for your support

KWS is selling its conventional seed potato business to Stet Holland B.V
“The future owner Stet Holland offers good perspectives for a successful continuation of our conventional potato business while KWS will fully focus its efforts in potato utilizing its resources and know-how as a breeder to develop hybrid varieties,” noted Peter Hofmann
member of the Executive Board of KWS SAAT SE
“Hybrid breeding in potato and multiplication via seed instead of tubers is an entirely new but highly promising approach that has considerable advantages compared to conventional breeding
We have been working in this innovative field since 2011 and have meanwhile achieved significant progress,” Hofmann added
General Manager of Stet Holland commented on the acquisition
“KWS’ seed potato business is an excellent fit for Stet as the markets for the current KWS and Stet varieties are very complementary to each other
and sales channels will enable us to create synergies and gain presence in key markets and specific processing segments
will help us to strengthen Stet’s position in the seed potato market.”
KWS will continue its hybrid potato breeding activities under the roof of KWS POTATO B.V
is an important part of KWS’ global research network and offers excellent conditions for these activities

Verbruggen Emmeloord demonstrated its latest palletizers at the BoWa onion packing plant's open-door day in the Netherlands
Verbruggen has been BoWa's palletizing partner for 29 years
These can stack about 50 million positioned onion bales
Around 75 people attended the demonstration
Verbruggen was eager to show the onion sector what the newly installed VPM-14 palletizer could do
The manipulator (the rotating device that lays the bags away) is made of a lightweight composite
The machine uses Servo technology because the machine continually performs the same operations at high speed
recalled their long-standing partnership with BoWa and thanked the Boone family for their trust in Verbruggen
The company has installed over 1,350 machines worldwide (in 42 countries) in various sectors
it recently developed a third machine (VPM-ACP) for box or crate palletizing
That is in addition to the already existing machines specifically for boxes (the VPM-BL and VPM-VHV)
This new model lets Verbruggen Emmeloord tap into new markets
making the need for automation increasingly apparent
This new machine is widely used for palletizing boxes of
one could equip the VPM-7 to VPM-14 series with a combi-manipulator for stacking both boxes and bags
Several other partners attended the open-door day
Also present was optical sorting machine supplier
These machines significantly reduce the number of (scarce) hands needed on the inspection belts
Guests were asked how many bags they thought all the Verbruggen palletizers in the world stack annually
Artjan van den Berge of Handelsonderneming van den Berge won
His guess of 745 million came closest to the correct answer of 725 million bags

Schokland was a peninsula that by the 15th century had become an island
Occupied and then abandoned as the sea encroached
But following the draining of the Zuider Zee
formed part of the land reclaimed from the sea
Schokland has vestiges of human habitation going back to prehistoric times
age-old struggle of the people of the Netherlands against the encroachment of the waters
The struggle of the people of the Netherlands against water has endured
and still continues today; without constant vigilance
more than half the present area of the country would be entirely submerged or subject to periodic inundation
Schokland was a peninsula that by the fifteenth century had become an island
Following the impoldering of the Zuider Zee
it has formed part of the land reclaimed from the sea since the 1940s
age-old struggle of the people of the Netherlands against the encroachment of the water
As a result of the colossal reclamation programme that began in the early years of the 20th century
Schokland and the settlement mounds and other human interventions that surround it stand as mute testimony to the skill and fortitude of the Dutch people in the face of this never-ceasing natural threat
The contours of the former island of Schokland above the flat lands of the reclaimed Noordoostpolder are still easy to trace in the topography within the former island — there are four large village terps
all of them protected archaeological sites
A fifth such site includes traces of Neolithic
The remains of dykes and terps located outside the present island reflect the former contours of the island and the land that has been lost over the course of time
but within the boundaries of the World Heritage property
are more than 160 archaeological sites with remnants of prehistoric occupation
and land division patterns (both old and new) go to complete the story of Schokland
The area provides exceptional evidence of a cultural tradition of island-dwellers threatened by the water and ultimately evacuated; the first residents on the land reclaimed from the sea cultivated and developed that new land
The area is an exceptional example of a traditional type of settlement and land use that is representative of cultures
primarily when these have become vulnerable due to the influence of irreversible change
Criterion (iii): Schokland and its surroundings preserve the last surviving evidence of a prehistoric and early historic society that had adapted to the precarious life of wetland settlements under the constant threat of temporary or permanent incursions by the sea
Criterion (v):Schokland is included in the agricultural landscape that was created as a result of the reclamation of the former Zuider Zee
part of the never-ceasing struggle of the people of the Netherlands against the water and one of the greatest and most visionary human achievements of the twentieth century
The history of this region is excellently represented in this small area
Despite having been part of the new man-made landscape since 1942
as an inland island used for large-scale agriculture
the contours of the former island are still clearly visible
with heritage remnants such as dykes and terps
The whole island and its immediate surroundings are included in the World Heritage property
Vestiges of all phases of the settlement history of Schokland are clearly recognisable: the traces of prehistoric settlement in the ground
the four terps on the eastern side of the island
the characteristic recent system of land division of the polder
and the green areas along the edge of the island
dehydration and modern agriculture could threaten the area and cause damage to the archaeological deposits
The authenticity of the site resides in its very existence
The nomination dossier was subtitled “symbol of the Dutch battle against water,” an apt description of Schokland and its authenticity
There are at least 152 sites in and around Schokland where the remains of prehistoric settlements
these reflect the former contours of the island
the land that has been lost over the course of time and due to the living conditions over a period of 6000 years
The island itself is still entirely authentic
Vestiges of the earlier buildings on the former island remain in the form of the Dutch Reformed church and the adjoining minister’s house (1834) and a much-restored boathouse for an iceboat in Middelbuurt
All the other buildings were demolished after the evacuation in 1859
The wooden buildings in Middelbuurt housing the Schokland Museum
are replicas of buildings and barns in the traditional Zuider Zee style from about 1980
the lighthouse keeper’s house (1882) and the foghorn house (about 1921) have been preserved
Some of the surviving features have been reconstructed
for example the harbour basin in Oud-Emmeloord with its jetties and ice aprons
and the foundations of the old beacon at the terp at the southern extremity
Sections of the foundations of the churches at the southern extremity have been restored
The church in Middelbuurt has been fully restored and given (nonoriginal) furnishings
A specialised company restored the church ruins using original materials
and the lighthouse have been reconstructed according to the currently applicable legislation
Schokland and Surroundings comprises five protected national archaeological sites (four terps and an area with traces of prehistoric settlement) and five listed buildings
namely the lighthouse keeper’s house and the foghorn at the Oud-Emmeloord terp at the northernmost point
the former Dutch Reformed church and the boathouse for an iceboat in Middelbuurt
and a ruined church at the southernmost point of the former island
a hydrological buffer zone has been constructed on the east side of the island so as to prevent subsidence of the island and damage to the archaeological record in the soil due to groundwater depletion
The government has also bought up more than 200 hectares of agricultural land and terminated production there
The municipality of Noordoostpolder became the site holder in 2010
is in the hands of the Flevo Landscape Foundation [Stichting Flevolandschap] and the municipality of Noordoostpolder
Besides management by the Flevo Landscape Foundation and the municipality (together some 500 hectares)
the area is also used by the owners and tenants of agricultural land
this use is intended to preserve the various features but at the same time to generate economic returns
The management plan is the result of specific agreements and administrative measures
The plan comprises specific tasks and responsibilities regarding preservation
and access of/to the Schokland World Heritage property and its surroundings
The management plan also makes clear the division of roles for these parties regarding management and preservation
The management plan is therefore a widely supported document which presents a shared view of the area and serves to unite all the parties involved
It also provides an integration framework for assessing the implementation of projects and ideas
One of the most important projects for the parties involved concerns the continued monitoring of the state of conservation of archaeological sites in the area surrounding the former island
Due to soil subsidence there is a strained relationship between agricultural use of the land and the conservation of the archaeological remnants
all parties strive to define a second hydrological buffer zone at the southern tip of the former island
The Dutch government intends to designate the World Heritage property Schokland and Surroundings as a protected conservation area under the 1988 Monuments and Historic Buildings Act [Monumentenwet 1988]
The optimal performance of the Lelylijn railway line would shorten the travel time from Groningen to Amsterdam-Zuid to 68 minutes
The project organization of the Lelylijn reported this based on research results from three possible trajectories
The train would go from Amsterdam to Groningen and back
it will be the first time that Drachten has a major train connection
This would reduce the travel time from the town to Groningen to 15 minutes
as opposed to the 45 minutes that it currently now
The trip to Amsterdam would take around an hour
Stations that are not directly on the Lelylijn
would also see a reduction in travel time to the Randstad
It has not been confirmed what trajectory the Lelylijn will take. However, the chances of the railway coming to fruition have improved in the last month. The line is included in the European rail network
and the coalition parties have included the construction of the line in the coalition agreement
have a longer travel time and have never been favored by the people involved
Business associations VNO-NCW Noord and MKB Noord responded positively to the results in a press release
The organizations see opportunities for workers to live in the north but work in the west of the country
They also see opportunities to attract employees in Emmeloord
“I am in favor of a Lelylijn full of young people who are going to work in World Potato City Emmeloord,” said Jan van Hoogten

Netherlands — Good thing Oscar Pistorius loves running from behind
The double-amputee sprinter hasn't fully given up on competing in the Beijing Olympics
but realizes it will take a major effort to qualify
considering he was only cleared to run by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on May 16
but that doesn't change the fact that we have the opportunity and we will try to grab it with both hands," the 400-meter specialist runner said Friday ahead of his first international race in 10 months
200 and 400 over the weekend at the Dutch Open Paralympic event
"One aspect is getting physically fit
another is getting competition fit," the 21-year-old Pistorius said
"I am going to start off running comfortably," he said
When you start chasing times then it becomes different."
said the January ban by the IAAF on competing in able-bodied races upset Pistorius' rhythm
The IAAF claimed the runner's prosthetic carbon fiber blades gave him an unfair edge
"He was totally confused," Louw said
Three weeks before CAS allowed him to run again
'We need to get back to training.' And after the ruling he came back a totally different guy."
Pistorius is still slightly above his ideal weight of 174 pounds
he will compete in Germany next week before more races in the Netherlands
Pistorius plans to run in an able-bodied race on July 2 in Milan
he will compete in Rome on July 11 and Lucerne
of where I would like to be," Pistorius told reporters
"I can be in decent shape in the next month
Pistorius' style is to run from behind
starting off slow before hitting hard off the final bend
Even though Pistorius thinks he might have a more realistic chance of qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics than the Beijing Games
the unexpected court ruling has given him a target
he'll have a shot at making the South Africa relay team
"You are definitely pulling out all the stops as far as diet and sleeping and focusing," Pistorius said
I would be more than pleased to see him running in Beijing," IAAF president Lamine Diack said in a conference call
Pistorius holds the 400 Paralympic world record of 46.56 seconds
but that time is outside the Olympic qualifying standard of 45.55
If no South African runner reaches that time
he could qualify with a "B" standard time of 45.83
it will be by a very thin slither," Pistorius said
Getting on the South African relay team offers him an opportunity
Pistorius would not require a qualifying time and could be taken to Beijing as an alternate
Six runners can be picked for the relay squad
which would need to be one of the world's top 16 teams to participate in the Olympics
Pistorius was born without fibulas — the long
thin outer bone between the knee and ankle — and was 11 months old when his legs were amputated below the knee
Fairplant from Emmeloord – The Netherlands started producing blueberry plants in-house
Fairplant has recently been able to add three license varieties to the range
Michigan State University (MSU) has granted Fairplant the licenses
Sales manager Rik Klein explains: "At the time
we have chosen to grow blueberries in-house to better meet the demand
We are happy that we can now also line-up these three popular license varieties in Europe and the UK
Professor emeritus James Hancock of the MSU started breeding these varieties in the nineties
They came on the market in 2004 and they are still among the best varieties in the industry
"In the near future we are also going to deliver our variety package of blueberries as organic (or so-called ‘BIO’) plants
The expo-SE fair in Karlsruhe - Germany on 20 and 21 November is the first opportunity for interested parties to ask us everything about the blueberries
Fertile basisIn addition to blueberry plants
Fairplant produces and markets fruit tree rootstocks
The company is based in Noordoostpolder (Flevoland - the Netherlands)
Fairplant will open a demo field with all the common and organic blueberries it delivers
so that buyers can see how the varieties grow and develop

The Lelylijn rail connection has been included in an agreement between the EU member states and the European Parliament on the Trans-European Rail Network (TEN-T)
the route is now on a list of important rail connections
The EU aims to have the Lelylijn realized by 2050 at the latest
The Lelylijn is a railway connection project between the north of the country and the Randstad that could mean a 1-hour train between Amsterdam and Groningen
Friesland's deputy and chairman of the Northern Cooperation Mobility
"The construction of the Lelylijn is important for the development of a strong and sustainable European rail network
the Lelylijn will be upgraded to the extended core network
making it part of the European high-speed rail network."
Trains on these routes must be able to travel at a minimum speed of 160 kilometers per hour
The Lelylijn is intended to connect the Randstad with Noord-Flevoland
but it is likely that the railway will run via Emmeloord
a so-called initial decision must be made regarding the Lelylijn
which means that an exploration will be conducted in the area
The funding for this must still be arranged during the formation
and VVD had included the Lelylijn in their election programs
The Lelylijn has been a topic of discussion for years
The decision will be made by the government
Research into possible routes is currently underway
The Lelylijn aims to provide a faster connection between the north and the west of the Netherlands
The European agreement will be voted on at the beginning of 2024
but the European Commission and the European Parliament have already announced it
it has been decided that large parking lots must be established along the railway lines
It was also agreed to reduce rail connections to Belarus and Russia and to increase the number of trains to Ukraine and Moldova
Other important connections include those between Lisbon and Madrid and between Helsinki and Warsaw
if you're visiting a tulip field in the Netherlands
actually walking through the fields (and through the flowers) isn't normally allowed
but you are free to take as many photos as you like from around the edges
So, where are some places you can visit to see tulips that aren't the Keukenhof
This is probably one of the most well-known places to see tulips that isn’t the Keukenhof. Situated between Leiden and Haarlem
the majority of tulip fields can be found around Lisse
This area is majorly popular with tourists as it is close to the Keukenhof
perhaps this is not the best destination for you
If you are visiting this area though, it’s a good idea to explore it via walking or cycling. There are plenty of cycling routes available that you can take to explore the tulip region. Getting there is pretty simple too; it’s just a 30-minute train ride from Amsterdam
This tulip region is a great alternative to visiting the Keukenhof
as you’ll still get to see the gorgeous tulips the country is famous for
Don’t flock to the Bollenstreek or Keukenhof like the rest; visit the Northern Bollenstreek instead
you’ll find 2.000 hectares of tulip fields
The Noordoostpolder (North East Polder) region is one of the largest bulb cultivation areas in the Netherlands
Another reason to head to the area in the Netherlands is the great number of activities they have on offer
Whilst in many tulip cultivation areas you will not be allowed to enter the fields
here there is a field especially for taking selfies
You can also venture to the Tulip Experience Field which has around 500 varieties of tulips. There’s even a tulip-picking farm for those who fancy taking some of the beautiful flowers home. Be sure to take a look at the tourist information website for more details on the tulip season in the North East Polder
you can even see tulips in the province of Zeeland
because the fields are so close to each other
visiting Zeeland to see the tulips makes for a perfect cycling or walking trip
As not many people associate Zeeland with tulips
you can expect a relaxing trip without crowds of tourists battling it out for the perfect selfie
The Dutch tulip season officially kicks off in January
but the real peak of the season isn't until March
The flowers are generally in bloom through to mid-May
but note that some farmers will start heading them at the start of May
so it’s best to check with the local tourist information centre as to whether there are actually tulips left to see
Thanks to the mild weather and gorgeous colours
tulip season is easily one of the best times of year in the Netherlands
and luckily there are a number of places across the country where you can enjoy it
If you don't make it to the tulip fields (or the Keukenhof) in time this year
then be sure to make a note of these places so you know where to visit next spring
The Artis Zoo will receive 10 million euros from the national government to renovate the aquarium at the Amsterdam attraction
said caretaker State Secretary Gunay Uslu for culture and media policy
Uslu previously rejected the zoo's request for funding
She previously said that the Cabinet would allocate an additional 15 million euros for the restoration of large monuments that are in urgent need of renovation
but it was not yet known which projects would receive the money
Uslu said that Artis had not complied with the detailed proposals she demanded of all applicants
everyone at Artis was "incredibly happy and relieved," a spokesperson said
"It comes at a very important time for Artis
because we are already in the middle of the restoration due to the urgency
everyone sees the value of this unique heritage
and we can shape the future of one of the oldest aquariums in the world thanks to broad social support
province and now also the national government."
Amsterdam Alderman Alexander Scholtes also said he was happy with the contribution from the Cabinet
