A fierce apartment fire in the Feijenoord district of Rotterdam injured two people and killed two pets Saturday evening, according to local authorities. The fire broke out in a fourth-floor unit on the Vuurplaat just after the start of the evening, Rijnmond reports.
Emergency services responded quickly, and firefighters managed to extinguish the flames shortly after arrival. Despite the rapid response, two residents sustained burn injuries, and a dog and a cat died in the blaze. A second dog was reported missing at the scene, though it remains unclear whether the animal has since been found.
One of the victims suffered severe injuries and was transported by trauma helicopter to the hospital. The other was taken to the hospital by ambulance. No additional information has been released regarding their condition.
Authorities from the Veiligheidsregio (safety region) confirmed the incident and the injuries. “A short but intense fire broke out in a bedroom on the fourth floor,” a spokesperson said. The precise cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation.

Milan have submitted an offer below €30 million for the striker

Will Feyenoord lower their demands and satisfy the player's strong desire to join Milan

Feyenoord moved on to 10 points while Sparta, whose consolations came from Albion Rrahmani and a Thomas Beelen own goal

The second came when Feyenoord's pressing stripped Kaan Kairinen of possession and Paixao ran from the halfway line before bending the ball wide of Vindahl
Hadj Moussa scored a stunner on 30 minutes as he received the ball wide out on the right of the attack
cut inside and fired off a left-footed shot that flew in across the goalkeeper
Feyenoord failed to clear a long throw that was flicked onto Rrahmani at the back post to make it 3-1 in the 43rd minute but Gimenez restored the comfortable margin when he took advantage of a defensive slip to bundle the ball over from close range
Sparta's second goal came from a cross in the 79th minute steered home a sliding Beelen into his own net
The match was a reunion for Feyenoord coach Brian Priske with the team he took to the double in the Czech Republic last season. When he moved to the Netherlands
his assistant Lars Friis took over at Sparta

Milan does not intend to stop during this winter transfer window
The name in attack is one we know well: Santiago Gimenez
Milan will improve their offer for Gimenez in the coming hours
following an initial proposal of nearly €30 million
Rafaela Pimenta is the intermediary for the deal and is working with the Dutch club to lower their initial €40 million asking price
Milan needs to increase their offer to at least €35 million plus bonuses to make the Dutch club reconsider
A preliminary agreement on salary and contract length has already been reached with the Mexican striker
things haven’t changed: Feyenoord is a team in trouble
Just think that the injured players could form a starting lineup
The result achieved at De Kuip, however, favors Feyenoord, which, just like a week ago, will rely on the defensive solidity of David Hancko, who today is featured on the front page of AD Sportwereld alongside Milan's new striker
as they shared a locker room for two and a half years in Rotterdam
which is why another great performance from the defender against the Milan number 7 is expected
The Dutch newspaper even encouraged him with the headline:
It will be interesting to see who will come out on top
with Milan fans obviously having their own preference
The Rotterdam City Council has agreed to a revised plan for Feyenoord City
which includes large-scale housing construction and renovation of the infrastructure in Rotterdam Zuid near De Kuip
the football stadium home to top flight club Feyenoord
Between 7,000 and 9,500 new homes will be built
The first masterplan for Feyenoord City from 2017 was halted in 2022 when it turned out that the football club did not want a new stadium near the Maas River because the costs would rise to up to half a billion
The new stadium was the core of the project's plans
The Council of State annulled the municipality's amended zoning plan in 2022 that excluded the stadium
It is clear that a lot of construction activities will take place near De Kuip in the next decade and a half
what is actually going to happen regarding the stadium itself is less clear
the structure's facilities no longer meet modern requirements and needs
which rents out De Kuip to the football club
recognizes the necessity but does not have enough money for the refurbishments that are needed
Director Dennis te Kloese has said on several occasions that the Feyenoord football club would like to become the stadium owner to maximize the profits from De Kuip
Stadion Feijenoord NV has a debt of around 15 million euros it owes to American bank Goldman Sachs
This makes it unclear whether the club can organize the plan in the short term
It recently emerged that the stadium has made an agreement with the municipality about further refraining from organizing concerts in De Kuip
The homes can then be built more cheaply because additional soundproofing facilities will not have to be installed
Stadion Feijenoord NV could be compensated by the municipality by an amount of approximately 12 million euros
The Feyenoord football club was not informed of this plan
and indicated that it was not happy with this intention
Feyenoord have shelved plans to build a new €385 million stadium on the Maas River
citing “enormous uncertainties in the financial commodity markets”
they will remain in the historic Stadion Feijenoord
A record 10 European finals have taken place in the stadium
the club have warned that “there will be no major renovation” of De Kuip
Feyenoord will remain at De Kuip “for quite some time”
A club statement noted: “Feyenoord considers it irresponsible to proceed with the construction of a new stadium on the Maas
There will also be no major renovation of the current Feyenoord Stadium
All plans in this regard are unfeasible in the current era
with enormous uncertainties in the financial and commodity markets
Announcing the club’s decision at a press conference on Thursday afternoon
general manager Dennie te Kloese said: “The board has always said that the club would like a new stadium if the club improves financially
it can be built for a fixed price and appropriate financing is in place
But the club cannot take undue risks in this
time and energy that countless people from many organizations have already invested in several stadium plans
it is extremely unfortunate to have to conclude that it all cannot be done after all
“I have great appreciation for everyone who has worked on one or more of the plans with the best intentions in recent years
“We cannot foresee what will happen in the coming years
New construction or renovation; we don't know what the distant future will bring
but for now there is clarity: we will remain in the current Kuip for quite some time.”

That's because of the pressure Feyenoord are putting on
The result leaves Ajax in sixth place on 45 points
a staggering 24 points behind second-placed Feyenoord
Their loss on Sunday was their eighth in the league this season
They proved no match for a rampant Feyenoord side
who allowed Ajax just a solitary shot on goal

Che Adams kept up his rate of early scoring so far for Saints as he netted after six minutes
Maya Yoshida got Saints back in front when he stabbed home and Sofiane Boufal – back in from the cold at St Mary’s – put the win beyond doubt with a well-taken effort in second-half injury time
With ten changes at half-time and two different systems utilised by Ralph Hasenhuttl during the match
Saints fans will be curious as to which setup they will see during their side’s opening Premier League fixture with Burnley
It is widely expected that Hasenhuttl’s preferred 4-2-2-2 will pay a bigger part than it did during the 2018/29 campaign
but it was a 5-3-2 that he strongest 11 operated in on Sunday
A strong looking side in the first-half saw Angus Gunn shielded by a back five of Yan Valery
A central-midfield partnership of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and James Ward-Prowse had Nathan Redmond operating just ahead of them
whilst Danny Ings and Che Adams were in attack
Adams scored his third goal of this pre-season when he and others pressed the Feyenoord defence with pace
allowing the striker to poke home once he had stolen the ball from his closest opponent
Some defensive frailties were still seen as Saints conceded the second goal of the game and Angus Gunn did have to make one important save in the first-half
Maya Yoshida was alert to stab in a rebound from James Ward-Prowse’s free-kick
but the best goal of the game came when Sofiane Boufal rounded off the afternoon
He collected a cross inside the area and evaded the challenges of a defender and goalkeeper with one subtle drop of the shoulder before finishing well
After being given little hope of continuing his Saints career in this season
it appears that he may still have a bit of Moroccan flair to give Ralph Hasenhuttl when the Premier League gets underway again
Perhaps it is dangerous to assume too much after this penultimate pre-season clash
there certainly were hints as to which players and which systems could be vital for Saints as they look to improve on two poor seasons previously
