Daniel Flick at Sports Illustrated highlights Warren as one of the top round one candidates for an impact "The Colts’ tight end room finished 2024 ranked last in receptions second to last in receiving yards and tied for second to last in receiving touchdowns versatile and enough of a playmaker in space to warrant screens and quick passes," wrote Flick "Warren alone revitalizes the tight end position in Indianapolis 14 pick figures to be a common target for either Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones." The Colts had nothing from their tight ends last year and to spare the reader from re-hashing the statistics Indy had four names in the room and couldn't muster 40 catches as a unit There's a high likelihood that Warren will overshoot this number in his rookie year alone winning the Mackey Award for being college's best tight end and hauling in 104 catches for 1,233 receiving yards and eight receiving scores Warren was also good enough to finish seventh in the Heisman trophy voting It's not to say that Colts mainstays like Mo Alie-Cox and Drew Ogletree can't still make an impact but it will be more as blockers and red zone targets Warren immediately slots in as the top tight end for Steichen and will look to elevate the efficiency and operation This was the selection Indianapolis desperately needed to help the team Indy secured seven other picks to shore up areas of the roster but none were a higher priority than tight end so it will be a sight to see if he can hit the ground running in 2025 DRAKE WALLYDrake Wally covers the Indianapolis Colts at Horseshoe Huddle and co-hosts the Horseshoe Huddle Podcast.   The content on this site is for entertainment and educational purposes only Betting and gambling content is intended for individuals 21+ and is based on individual commentators' opinions and not that of Sports Illustrated or its affiliates All picks and predictions are suggestions only and not a guarantee of success or profit If you or someone you know has a gambling problem crisis counseling and referral services can be accessed by calling 1-800-GAMBLER « Back Dan Haren career pitching statistics for Major League No topics or blog entries for this player found You need to be a member in order to leave a comment Sign up for a new account in our community Your access to this service has been limited If you think you have been blocked in error contact the owner of this site for assistance If you are a WordPress user with administrative privileges on this site please enter your email in the box below and click "Send" You will then receive an email that helps you regain access Wordfence is a security plugin installed on over 5 million WordPress sites The owner of this site is using Wordfence to manage access to their site You can also read the documentation to learn about Wordfence's blocking tools or visit wordfence.com to learn more about Wordfence Click here to learn more: Documentation (opens in new tab) 5 May 2025 22:14:53 GMT.Your computer's time: document.write(new Date().toUTCString()); crossed over the Jordan River in the late hours of June 30 in Greene County to the late Herman (Booty) and Onna Haren; he was one of ten siblings He worked until retirement in the retail wholesale hardware industry Don was known for finding joy in the outdoors; he enjoyed hunting Don loved spending his mornings with friends at breakfast clubs He was a devoted member of Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he taught senior men’s Sunday school class for many years Don will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends Don was preceded in death by three of his brothers Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Sammy Haren (Lynn) and Sandra Hayes (Randy); grandchildren Joshua Hansen and Sarah Hansen Jones (Jason); special great-grandson Walker Haren; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews and many good friends The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home A funeral service officiated by cherished friend A graveside service will be held at Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Friday Those who wish to attend are asked to meet no later than 10:45am at the church In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bethesda Cemetery Fund Attn: Sherry Good 1197 Cabot Cove Jonesborough A ceremony has taken place in Farnham to mark 75 years of friendship with a Dutch counterpart. Farnham’s first formal international link was formalised in 1950 when citizens from Haren in The Netherlands visited in an allied commitment to peace, understanding, friendship and co-operation. A small group recently came together in Haren Garden off South Street to mark the diamond anniversary of the link. Attendees included town mayor, Cllr Brodie Mauluka, and Brian Daniels, who was involved in the first visit and who shared memorabilia from the time. Neil Peerman of Farnham Scouts also took part as his father was involved in the original gathering which involved both scouts and guides. Cllr Mauluka said: “While the formal ties between the two towns may have lessened over time, the spirit of friendship continues. “Each year, Farnham plants tulips - a quiet and simple tribute, supported by a donation from local resident Hans du Moulins. It is a small act but one that symbolises a connection that has stood the test of time.” He added: “Today, both Farnham and Haren are towns proud of their heritage and hopeful for their future. “In times of change, the values that brought our communities together - goodwill, openness, and mutual respect - are as vital now as they were then.” The ceremony concluded with Cllr Mauluka reading from Robert Browning’s poem “Oh, to be in England”, which was included in the April 1950 official programme. The civic welcome involved plenty of well-known dignitaries with guests including Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, the Lord Lieutenant, the Bishop of Guildford and a representative of the Dutch Ambassador. A weekend of activities included a 3-3 football match between Farnham & District and Haren, a tennis tournament, swimming gala and a series of social gatherings that led to long-lasting friendships. Haren Pandya: The BJP leader who defied Modi Haren Pandya was a BJP stalwart and Gujarat’s Home Minister known for his strong RSS background and political influence He had served as a cabinet minister under Keshubhai Patel and continued in office when Narendra Modi took over as Chief Minister in 2001 tensions between Pandya and Modi began escalating in 2001 when Pandya refused to vacate his Ellisbridge Assembly seat for Modi’s electoral entry into the Gujarat Legislative Assembly This public defiance made him one of Modi’s biggest internal rivals within the Gujarat BJP when Pandya allegedly provided confidential testimony to an independent panel led by Justice V R Krishna Iyer regarding Modi’s role in the 2002 Gujarat riots Pandya alleged that Modi had instructed officials to allow Hindu mobs to retaliate freely following the Godhra train burning He was removed from Gujarat Home Minister's post and denied a ticket to contest elections in 2002 and was expected to be transferred to Delhi for a BJP national role -- an offer he allegedly resisted He was assassinated months later on 26 March 2003 shot dead in Ahmedabad during his routine morning walk The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) initially linked Pandya’s murder to Islamic militants claiming that Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives assassinated him as an act of revenge for the 2002 riots but the Gujarat High Court overturned the convictions in 2011 The court slammed the police and CBI for fabricating evidence stating that the real perpetrators remained unknown the Supreme Court reinstated the convictions repeatedly accused Modi of orchestrating his son’s murder stating in interviews that "the real masterminds were protected." The Congress attack on PM Modi comes from an alleged pattern of political indifference towards Sunita Williams in 2007 despite her Gujarati heritage and international fame Reports from The Telegraph (21 June 2007) noted that Williams had a deep personal bond with Haren Pandya and had campaigned for him in 1998 Despite Gujarat’s tradition of celebrating achievers Modi’s government ignored her accomplishments in 2007 The Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly proposed a resolution to honour Williams but Modi’s BJP remained silent The Vishwa Gujarati Samaj criticised Modi’s government for not recognising Williams Modi has suddenly praised Williams in a personal letter calling her one of India’s illustrious daughters The Congress has now latched on this change in stance alleging that PM Modi is only recognising her now for political optics While BJP dismisses these claims as political opportunism the Haren Pandya case continues to cast a shadow over Modi’s leadership in Gujarat over his relationship with Sunita Williams Such comments are punishable under cyber laws The opinions expressed here are the personal opinions of readers and not that of Mathrubhumi The two that stand out and are mocked the most are Penn State's Tyler Warren and Michigan's Colston Loveland This is with good reason, as the Colts had an abysmal showing from the entire tight end room during the 2024 season. The group was arguably the worst in the league at providing either Colts QB (Anthony Richardson or Joe Flacco) with consistent weapons downfield Now, the Colts have a golden opportunity to address this with talent that can be developed with Shane Steichen's offense right from the start. However, if the Colts don't select Warren or Loveland, all hope isn't lost Pro Football Focus believes that a certain Bowling Green tight end can be a day-three fit for Indianapolis if he falls: Harold Fannin Jr Here's what Mason Cameron thinks of the possibility: "If Fannin isn’t scooped up on Day 2 of the draft the Colts should leap at the opportunity to snag one of the most underrated tight ends in the class on Day 3 but the Bowling Green standout is a bona fide weapon in the receiving game having earned the highest PFF grade (94.9) in the class from an in-line alignment." Fannin's three-year college career boasted good numbers but it was his meteoric 2024 season that many had a chance to see his potential on display He secured 117 catches in 13 games for 1,555 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns He also ran the ball nine times for 65 yards and another touchdown Harold Fannin Jr. designed touches pic.twitter.com/Qz5uvVo1ao The main drawback to Fannin is that he's not the most gifted blocker but the Colts wouldn't be drafting him to perform consistently in that manner but his prowess lies in being an offensive weapon for Shane Steichen to utilize Quarterback Richardson desperately needs more help as a passer, and giving him a tight end with upside as a receiver is huge. This is something Richardson didn't have in 2024. Regardless of who's under center (Richardson or Daniel Jones) there must be more from the tight end position than just blocking and taking up space on the field Fannin hasn't been linked much to Indianapolis that designation goes to Penn State's Warren he can possibly be overlooked and would provide the Colts what they missed at tight end: receiving abilities We'll see if the Bowling Green standout is a talent that Chris Ballard holds in higher regard than we see on the surface around day three of the NFL draft CommentsModi pens a letter to Sunita Williams, and in all likelihood she will put it in trash. Why?She is Haren Pandya's cousin. Haren Pandya was Gujarat home minister who challenged Modi, and he gave secret deposition to Justice VR Krishnaiyer about Modi's role in Gujarat riots,… pic.twitter.com/nFCntim5Ot Juliette van Haren used insights from medical biology and industrial design for her PhD research A better alternative for current incubator care: that’s the goal of the interdisciplinary project in which PhD candidate Juliette van Haren developed prototypes for an innovative care environment This new approach mimics the womb and may offer premature babies better development chances she defended her dissertation cum laude at the Department of Industrial Design Source: Cursor / Martina Silbrníková set up by doctors at Máxima Medical Centre (MMC) focuses on improving the care of premature babies a collaboration was established between medical and technical disciplines with a background in both medical biology and industrial design was ideally suited to tackle this challenge using design principles “It’s a very interdisciplinary project,” she says “I work closely with the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) The idea is that the innovative care environment creates a safe and comfortable environment to optimally support the physical and mental development of premature babies Van Haren emphasizes that the system is only intended for medical emergencies “We deliberately aren’t calling it an artificial womb,” she explains “That term suggests that it would completely take over the function of a real womb The project inevitably raises ethical questions That’s why Van Haren believes it’s important to clearly explain what the system does and doesn’t aim to accomplish “We focus exclusively on babies born between 24 and 28 weeks,” she explains the legal limit for intensive medical care for premature babies is 24 weeks premature babies often suffer from long-term health problems That is why the consortium is working on a concept in which the baby remains immersed in an environment filled with amniotic fluid This prevents the lungs from being directly exposed to air “We can provide the child with oxygen and nutrients via the umbilical cord which is connected to an artificial placenta after birth,” Van Haren explains “Medication can also be administered via this route so we don’t have to puncture the delicate skin.” “We cannot fully mimic the functions of the womb,” she acknowledges “But by creating an environment in which the baby is immersed in amniotic fluid As this technology is still in its early stages of development such innovations are often tested on animals the consortium opted for an alternative approach to avoid animal testing as much as possible: testing using simulations Researchers from BME developed mathematical models for this purpose a kind of digital twin of the cardiovascular system of a fetus designed physical patient simulators: lifelike dolls that mimic the physical structure and bodily functions of premature babies as much as possible These physical models make it possible to perform tests under controlled conditions By then linking the digital and physical models the physical simulators measure oxygen levels after which the digital model calculates how these values affect blood pressure,” Van Haren explains “These calculations are then fed back to the physical models to refine the results This creates a feedback loop that allows us to obtain increasingly accurate results.” feedback was collected from various stakeholders the prototypes were developed together with MMC doctors “That collaboration was very valuable,” says Van Haren “It allows you to include the human dimension and make it truly tangible which isn’t possible with animal testing.” Students also played an important role in this collaborative project “Many of the prototypes were co-developed by students,” she continues Not only did this result in valuable contributions it also gave students the opportunity to gain practical experience within an interdisciplinary team As the human aspect plays an essential role in the design Van Haren worked closely with a patient organization consisting of parents of premature babies “We believe the bond between the parents and the child is incredibly important,” she emphasizes Although the amniotic fluid incubator offers protection it can also form a barrier between parent and child “We know that parent-child bonding is crucial for the well-being of both the baby and the parents,” says Van Haren That’s why a lot of thought was given to ways to strengthen that bond One way to achieve this is through a ‘womb phone’ that parents could use to talk or sing to their baby Another idea is the possibility of placing the incubator above the mother’s belly for more physical proximity the technology needs to be thoroughly tested One of the challenges is transferring a baby from the mother to the amniotic fluid incubator because the oxygen supply stops as soon as the umbilical cord is cut,” Van Haren explains “The umbilical cord has to be connected to the artificial placenta immediately.” our goal is to keep the baby in the fetal phase,” says Van Haren such as ‘fetonate’ (a combination of fetus and neonate) which refers to the transitional phase between a fetus and a newborn The project is part of a broader collaboration researchers from the University of Aachen are working on an artificial placenta and a technical prototype of the incubator and colleagues in Milan are developing technologies for non-invasive monitoring Although the implementation of an amniotic fluid incubator will probably take years Van Haren hopes that her research can make a valuable contribution “Within the consortium we always say: we don’t want to be the first; we want to do it right “Now we at least have a physical setting in which we can brainstorm together and further develop the concept.” The light pink background refers to the proverbial pink cloud after giving birth It symbolizes hope for the future: with this technology we can improve the situation of premature babies and their parents.” “I investigate how we can improve incubator care for premature babies.” It’s important to take a step back and zoom out once in a while I realize that I put too much time and energy into things that ultimately didn’t even make it into my dissertation Talking to others helped me see things from another perspective.” as an assistant professor at the Department of Industrial Design and will continue researching care for premature babies We are currently in the process of securing funding for new projects.” Follow me: X/ TwitterTelegram and Facebook The Athletic has live coverage of Rangers vs Diamondbacks in Game 3 of the World Series Pitching coach Brent Strom wanted to regroup reset and rethink the team’s strategy against the slugging Phillies amplified the idea: The entire pitching staff needed to meet.  “I tried to tell them that I know that they feel a lot of pressure when they’re on the mound in these games,” Haren said “But there’s just as much pressure on the hitter So don’t feel like the weight of the world is on you — it’s also on them Haren provided the blend of insight and perspective that the Diamondbacks rely on from him retired in 2015 after 13 seasons in the majors His formal title is “pitching strategist.” He plays a hybrid role He is not exactly a coach — he does not wear a uniform and does not venture into the dugout during games — but he sports gym shorts far too often to be considered an officially credentialed quarter-zip-attired member of the front office.  linking to a plate that read “ANALYTICS.” He utilizes statistics to formulate game plans for his club’s pitchers “He’s really good,” Diamondbacks pitcher Ryne Nelson said “at figuring out what a hitter’s not good at.”  “Being able to know who’s aggressive, who you can strike out, all these other factors — that’s the main takeaway,” said Brandon Pfaadt Haren often chugged Imodium before starts to calm his nerves Greinke encouraged him to channel his energy into studying opponents.  Haren maintained his enthusiasm for the craft of game planning even after he hung up his cleats His self-deprecating Twitter account had brought him enough acclaim to consider a media career He turned down an opportunity to do weekly hits on ESPN in the winter of 2016 he was deciding between finding a team willing to hire him or hosting a podcast for Barstool Sports.  “It was either talk about baseball or actually work in baseball,” Haren said “I felt like I would feel better about myself working in baseball.” Arizona owner Ken Kendrick had recently plucked Mike Hazen out of Boston to run his baseball operations department Greinke vouched for the voraciousness of Haren’s mind to his new bosses Haren represented a small part of the franchise’s connective tissue “We had heard so many great things about him,” Hazen said And we were looking to bring in some intelligence and some gravitas “We have pictures all up in the Arizona clubhouse of But I don’t know if the picture was up at the time I’m pretty sure he never knew that I pitched.”  Hazen signed Kelly out of the Korean Baseball Organization who demonstrated how to navigate the team’s TruMedia analytics system “I’ve been able to filter through what I need and what I don’t need I attribute a lot of that to him.” Now in his fourth season with Arizona Kelly formulates his own reports and compares them with Haren’s reports He often asks Haren to troubleshoot issues about sample size: When is a statistic worth caring about?  “My ability to communicate with him on those types of things has allowed me to tailor what I need to know and what I don’t need to know,” Kelly said.  After the Miami Marlins traded Gallen to Arizona in 2019 Gallen had used Miami’s analytics system often preparing for the seven starts he made as a Marlin Haren found a willing partner for deep dives “We kind of instantly hit it off,” Gallen said this is what I like to look at.’ And he was like this is what I do.’ And then you mix them together.” In Haren Gallen found a resource capable of sharing advice on how to make adjustments both within games and in a more holistic sense when it seems like the league is starting to make an adjustment about you,” Gallen said.  The connection is deep enough that Strom understood not to interfere when Arizona hired him away from the Houston Astros heading into 2022 “He’s developed a really unique relationship with Gallen The coach and the strategist do not always agree “We look at things differently,” Strom said I look more at how one pitch plays with another “has been amazing.” His only concern about Strom is that the 75-year-old sage still uses an AOL email account “So any time I get an email to my D-Backs email it always warns me that this email comes from an out-of-organization source,” Haren said.  As both Gallen and Kelly developed footholds in the majors in recent years, the Diamondbacks encouraged Haren to spend more time with less-seasoned players. Part of the reason Arizona believes it can contend beyond 2023 is its fleet of pitching prospects like Pfaadt, Nelson and Tommy Henry “Now he’s going down and prepping the guys in Triple A to be ready for what they’re going to get in the big leagues,” Hazen said “And I think that’s been a huge difference maker for us.”  Last September, Nelson made his big-league debut against the San Diego Padres spread out pieces of paper across the table “That paper will also be on an iPad that you can access during the game,” said Nelson for the first out of Nelson’s career.  “If I can just make a sliver of a difference during a game “This is a good way that I’ve been able to stay competitive in it.” This postseason has offered Haren an even better chance to feel impactful He writes regular reports and checks in with the starters every 10 days He leaves mechanical suggestions to the coaches He tries not to lecture about the vagaries of big-league life I sometimes was annoyed when people came in and tried to act like they’d done it before I err on the side of giving a pitcher too much space I need to be more aggressive in sparking up conversation.”  The conversations have been constant these past few weeks Haren has traveled with Arizona on winning jaunts to Milwaukee He lived through the doldrums so often referenced by Hazen and manager Torey Lovullo He was thrilled to play a part in the organization’s revival.  we were having 17-game losing streaks and wanting to dig into a hole and never come out,” Haren said This World Series is off to quite a start: Top 10 Weird and Wild tidbits so far (Top photo of Haren during the 2021 season: Norm Hall / Getty Images) fans will get to find out who their team selects to be the future cornerstone piece of their franchise With the selection process just under a month from now speculation will run rampant across fanbases and media members alike one that does not have many superstars like in years past shining a lower light on the draft class as a whole there are numerous prospects that have the ceiling to be outstanding players at their respective positions in the NFL there are two rounds to project and several surprises that will arise in this prediction of how the selection process turns out for the first 64 picks This seems to contradict what Mike Borgonzi said about not passing on generational talent as is the case with a team like the Titans the value of a high ceiling quarterback will always supersede that of a generational prospect unless it is on the level Trevor Lawrence or Andrew Luck Ward is still a QB with plenty of potential and would give Tennessee their future of the franchise Despite the rumors of his varying draft range expectations should be that Sanders is a top three selection He seems to be the best fit style-wise for Kevin Stefanski's offense and this would be his first time getting the opportunity to develop a young quarterback The son of Deion is arguably the best pro-ready signal-caller between him and Ward This should be a no-brainer for the Giants; Hunter is a superstar in the making and a generational prospect due to his two-way ability He can give this franchise a breath of fresh air at either cornerback or wide receiver and should be given every opportunity to play full-time on both sides of the ball giving them another dynamic playmaker with Malik Nabers but an offensive tackle should be considered here regardless Membou offers plenty of value to be a quality selection at No and functional athleticism along with the combination of proper hand technique and footwork in pass sets makes the Missouri standout an immediate upgrade in New England's trenches It has become clear that the Jaguars will likely be focusing on a defensive lineman early in the draft Graham makes too much sense for the type of potential cornerstone talent Jacksonville needs on their defensive line alongside their star pass rushers Pete Carroll and Chip Kelly are notorious for having run-first offenses and for a team that was one of the worst run games in the league they needed a quality runner in the backfield Jeanty is the best running back to enter the draft since Bijan Robinson or Saquon Barkely depending on who you view higher in the pre-draft process giving the Raiders a supremely talented runner The Jets should try to give the accomplished LSU Tiger a chance at right tackle before moving him inside to guard His skill set translates well at both spots and it would give Aaron Glenn the best of both worlds regardless Campbell is a technically refined player with a nasty attitude in the trenches This is a dream come true for the Panthers who need playmakers on either side of the ball Carter is the best edge rusher in the NFL Draft and an elite prospect with outstanding athleticism This would all but complete Carolina's rebuild of their defensive front and to make things better the Saints are not in a great spot with the salary cap and will have to hope their draft and development approach works out for the better That will be the case for someone like Stewart who should be the favorite to be the second pass rusher off the board His rare size and athleticism for the position make him a terrific high-ceiling and upside player The Bears must focus on addressing the trenches in this draft and have done a solid job at doing so in free agency with their offensive line additions it's time to address the defensive line Williams is a universal scheme fit in any defense he is asked to play for and would give Chicago and quality run defender and high-upside pass rusher Johnson is arguably one of the top prospects in the NFL Draft His ceiling is comparable to Patrick Surtain II due to his superb coverage technique and ball skills but inconsistencies and injuries hurt Johnson's perception as a prospect The Cowboys could go in any direction here with a defensive lineman a key need is nickelback and Jahdae Barron presents as the best one in this class His versatility would give Dallas a nice chess piece in their secondary Campbell remains one of the best defensive prospects in the NFL Draft and is arguably a Top 10 prospect in this year's class His experience as an edge rusher combined with his quality skills in coverage and run fits allow him to be a playmaker at the second level Campbell would give Miami an exciting defender on their defense once more There are varying opinions on the top tight ends in this class and whichever one is the first one off the board Warren is a terrific and versatile playmaker who would give quarterback Anthony Richardson an adequate go-to target in the passing game Atlanta is in desperate need of playmaking help on their defensive front Walker is a tweener defensive prospect who may be viewed better as an edge rusher instead of an off-ball defender the Falcons get themselves a playmaker in their front seven Grant is a monster on the inside who projects more as a nose tackle in the NFL and upside as a potential interior pass rusher gives the Cardinals a viable interior player With Al Golden coaching the defensive side and a room full of youth the Bengals could emerge as an improved unit in 2025 Myles Murphy still needs to prove his worth and competition is needed With Trey Henderickson's future still murky Ezeiruaku would provide the defense with a terrific pure pass rusher with some of the best rush variety in this draft the Seahawks have to get some quality guards on their offensive line Jackson is a smart and versatile lineman with a nice toolkit that can make him an early starter on the Seattle offensive line as Sam Darnold will need all the protection he can get Starks is arguably a top-five player in this year's class he'll drop because of a 40-yard dash time that does not accurately display his true gifts as a safety This is the perfect single-high defender the Buccaneers have been searching for to pair with Antonie Winfield There are not a lot of big needs on the Broncos roster This is a well-put-together team that should remain in postseason contention Loveland would give Bo Nix a viable pass-catcher at tight end and an immediate weapon on the offensive side of the ball Aaron Rodgers ultimately chooses the Steel City as his third team This allows Pittsburgh to add a developmental quarterback with the physical tools to grow into a future starter Milroe has the gifts to be a special player at the next level the Chargers are in need of a new starter in the trenches Nolen is a true disruptor with the ceiling to be a terrific interior lineman for an NFL defense and quickness make him a difficult task for any blocker in the trenches McMillan offers a sky-high ceiling with the potential to be a No the former All-American looks to be a fun target for Jordan Love in the passing game The future at safety in Minnesota must be considered with Harrison Smith likely at the end of his career Emmanwori put up quite the performance at the combine and showcased his elite athleticism He projects as an overhang defender or strong safety in the NFL and would be a good fit in Brian Flores' defense This remains a popular choice and rightfully so Egbuka is arguably the best wide receiver in the draft and offers a skill set that can make himself a production target in any NFL offense early in his career Davante Adams won't be the same guy he was a couple of seasons ago and is only playing on a two-year deal in Los Angeles It never hurts to plan for the future and also add a playmaker at slot receiver that can not only be an effective separator on all three levels but give you a high-ceiling playmaker as well Green is arguably one of the best pure rushers in the draft with excellent explosiveness and a great rush plan He would be an immediate-impact player from the word go With an opportunity to build their offensive line the Chiefs trade up for the second year in a row to take Simmons who when healthy is arguably the top offensive lineman prospect in the draft but his skill set and technique is near-flawless Kansas City did sign Jaylon Moore in free agency but they could do better at left tackle Simmons could also compete for the starting left guard spot and then transition over to tackle if Moore struggles during the season The ceiling for the former Buckeye is the team's franchise cornerstone on the left edge of the line Revel tore his ACL at the beginning of last season and could miss the start of the regular season the Commanders are in a place where they won't have to be too concerned with this factor as a legitimate Super Bowl contender Revel's skill set is similar to that of Jaycee Horn who was one of the highest-paid corners in the league earlier in free agency He was a force in the defensive trenches for the Oregon Ducks on their way to a bye in the playoffs and he offers the power and size to be an early contributor on the Bills defensive line early in his career It will be interesting to see where Pearce lands in the first round if he is drafted here at all There are rumored off-field concerns with the former Volunteers standout but that sounds like more hearsay Pearce could be an early selection or taken here late in the first round where he would give the Lions and effective and explosive rusher off the edge The fall for Banks ends at the conclusion of the first round This is a great tackle prospect with very good independent hand usage and functional athleticism that should perk the ears of Stefanski Banks has a high ceiling as a potential left involved in Kane Creek Development Watch a citizens’ group dedicated to stopping a proposed 180-acre development along Kane Springs Road gathered 18,000 digital signatures in an online petition started by Long celebrated Grand County Commission denying a sewer plant permit to the developers Haren spent several years running an eco-housing company in Reno But when she returned to Moab to help her father with general contract work she came back with a “completely different perspective.” I realized my hometown is actually an incredibly rare and unique place,” says Haren Haren led an unsuccessful effort to prevent land next to Looking Glass Rock from becoming a glamping resort.  really cared about that piece of area and it was very special to me,” she says Haren felt like Moab community members were getting inaccurate information so she went undercover: She got a job catering at Under Canvas to gather information and then sounded the alarm to Moab locals.  “I had the PR person for Under Canvas on my doorstep the next day,” she says ULUM Resorts offers single-tent reservations for $499-$749 per night Haren looks back at her Under Canvas experience as a warm-up to her current work with Kane Creek Development Watch.  “[Looking Glass] was an interesting fight because I felt like I did it by myself,” says Haren “I learned about how the whole system works I also felt like I fully grasped just how big the big money coming to town was.” remembers that sentiment well: he spent part of his childhood watching Moab citizens slowly lose a prolonged legal battle against the Lionsback development.  The people with deeper pockets will always win,’” he said While Haren was a self-described “overachiever,” Priano says he was “on the fast track to just be a burnout and riding my bike.” But he found his rhythm in the mountain biking world crediting it for giving him a sense of community.  Priano owns and operates two businesses in the biking space she walked in to buy a bike and instantly reconnected with her old high school classmate Haren and Priano have been together for nearly four years Priano’s family has owned property for generations on Kane Creek He says that he rides past the Kane Creek development spot often Watching the developers finally break ground earlier this year Priano made the decision to start the Kane Creek Development Watch Instagram account when he was standing next to the development itself He had seen a petition started by a then-stranger named Laura Long that opposed the development Priano bought $100 worth of Instagram ads to boost Long’s petition she first moved to Moab in 2019 to work as a mountain biking guide and has lived full-time in Moab for the last one-and-a-half years.  “I ride my bike out to Kane Creek Road all the time,” she says saying the development was only “vaguely” on her radar “I started reading the newspaper when I was becoming a local Long got particularly obsessed with the origins of Utah House Bill 22 which allowed the Kane Springs Improvement District board of trustees to go from being entirely made up of county commissioners to entirely private developers.  but I do have these core beliefs that democracy is for the people After reaching out to the Grand County commissioners and trying to figure out who exactly supported the development Long came to the conclusion that “nobody agrees this should be happening.”  Both of Long’s roommates encouraged her to start a petition who currently studies software engineering at the Turing School bootcamp made a simple Google Docs form and linked it to a Notion website with enabled analytics After Priano boosted the petition with ads “There were 1,500 people—new people—clicking on that link per day,” she says “There were Instagram influencers who caught wind of the situation and shared it on their stories.”  more than 18,000 people have signed Long’s petition The first time that Long, Haren, and Priano all met in person was at the January 16, 2024, Grand County Commission meeting that more than 100 people attended to speak out on the Kane Creek project  “Dailey and Cody just have such good energy,” says Long using a donated subscription to Microsoft Teams to organize community members into collective action “We fell into a vortex together,” says Haren.  The day-to-day routine for all three Moab locals consists of multiple jobs constant messaging about issues regarding Kane Creek Development Watch Haren describes her work as that of an operator helping hundreds of volunteers connect and work together When asked what the difference between her resistance against Under Canvas in 2020 and her current work with Kane Creek Development Watch huge upwelling of opposition” for the Kane Creek project.  It’s really important to a lot of people,” she says where two teams play for the championship while the sport’s movers and shakers congregate to debate the great questions of the day One of those movers and shakers here asked me one of the great questions of this day: What are the Angels doing The Angels probably won’t have Shohei Ohtani much longer They have a general manager with one year left on his contract The pitching coach is gone and two coordinators who oversaw minor league pitching are gone The Rangers have pursued Clayton Kershaw in the past and now that they’re in the World Series the Dodgers legend has even more to ponder about his future Arte Moreno, the Angels’ owner, is getting input from some of the team’s most respected former players, including suggestions to consider Darin Erstad and Gary DiSarcina for manager Here is a suggestion from the World Series: Bring back another former player, Dan Haren to figure out how to get the best from what has been a disappointing crop of young pitchers That has been Haren’s specialty with the National League champion Arizona Diamondbacks “You can’t beat Dan,” Game 3 starter Brandon Pfaadt said He will finish in the top 10 in Cy Young voting for the third time in four years so their chance to succeed next season depends largely on the young pitchers who regressed this season Patrick Sandoval is 27. José Suarez is 25. Reid Detmers is 24. Angels pitcher Reid Detmers delivers during a game against the Chicago White Sox at Angel Stadium in June. (Gina Ferazzi / Los Angeles Times) In 2021, the Angels selected a pitcher in all 20 rounds of the draft. Two have made the majors, each with a 0.4 WAR. Brent Strom, the Diamondbacks’ acclaimed pitching coach, deserves much credit for the success of the Arizona staff. But the Diamondbacks pitchers also praise the work of Haren, who concentrates his efforts in strategy and game planning. Haren showed up in Reno, the home of the Diamondbacks’ triple-A affiliate, two weeks before Ryne Nelson made his major league debut, to familiarize Nelson with the scouting reports he would provide. “If it wasn’t for him, I would not really have known where to start and where to look and what are good stats to look at,” Nelson said. “He pitched at the highest level for a long time and was really successful. Being able to learn from him has been very beneficial.” That was one of the sources of tension within the Angels: front-office staffers delivering what some in the clubhouse regarded as orders from above, rather than suggestions. The information might be the same, but it is no secret that many players prefer to hear it from one of their own. Haren, a three-time All-Star, is one of their own. Sports The Arizona Diamondbacks tied for the fewest wins among the 12 playoff teams, but now they are four wins away from a World Series championship. “We’re completely prepared going into every start because of him,” Pfaadt said. “He gives us the whole scouting report, whether that be things that the hitters have done since the All-Star break or what-not. He’s able to break it down into the best way to pitch each guy.” Said Merrill Kelly, the Diamondbacks’ Game 2 starter: “I think, as baseball players, we feel more comfortable when it’s coming from a baseball player. I’m not a scholar by any means, so when I have a guy from Yale or Princeton or something like that trying to translate their vernacular as far as how they look at baseball, to me it might not translate as well as it should. “So, when I know it’s a guy who’s been in the trenches and knows how to get people out personally — not only on a computer, but also on the mound — I think it holds a little more weight for me.” Mike Hazen, the Diamondbacks’ general manager, said Haren can do more than game planning. “He is extremely smart, and driven,” Hazen said. “He can do anything. He is extremely talented.” Whether Haren would be a fit in Anaheim, well, who knows? He could be a good pitching coach, or perhaps an organizational director of pitching, a key position in such organizations as the Baltimore Orioles and San Francisco Giants. The Texas Rangers are back in the World Series for the first time since 2011, with former Dodgers star Corey Seager being a key piece. Haren lives in Irvine. Bringing him home would be a natural fit. First, however, Moreno ought to decide what he plans to do with Perry Minasian. A general manager entering a lame-duck season is a detriment to attracting candidates with options to work elsewhere. Who would want to take a job when that job might expire a year from now, if Moreno hires a new general manager and that person hires his or her own people? The Miami Marlins’ Skip Schumaker, for example, would be an outstanding hire as manager. He is unhappy the Marlins parted ways with general manager Kim Ng, and the Angels ought to find out whether the Marlins would let Schumaker, who lives in Orange County, out of his contract. But would he really come to the Angels if his boss could be ousted in consecutive years? The Angels are about to hire their fourth manager in six years. Stability is the only way to attract the best candidates, and only Moreno can decide whether he wants to pledge that.
