The police have found a drug lab in one of the apartments of a housing complex in Heemstede where a fire damaged multiple homes on Sunday
It is not yet clear whether the drug lab caused the fire
The fire broke out in the apartment complex on Burgemeester van Lennepweg early on Sunday afternoon
Firefighters managed to extinguish it within 30 minutes
but not before it damaged 20 homes to such an extent that their residents couldn’t go back to them on Sunday
including 15 residents of a residential care center located next to the burning building
Two people had to go to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation

A police spokesperson could not yet tell RTL Nieuws what type of drugs were produced in the lab they found or whether it had anything to do with the fire
the police asked the public on Burgernet to look out for two men who had been seen at the fire
The police said they were concerned about the men’s health because they may have inhaled smoke
A police spokesperson told NOS that the two are not considered suspects at this time, but investigators would like to speak to them.

Photo: ANP/HH/Michel van BergenPolice have uncovered a drugs lab in an apartment complex in a commuter town near Amsterdam that had to be evacuated following a fire at the weekend
had to leave the complex of three tower blocks in Heemstede after the blaze broke out at around 1pm on Sunday
Two people were treated in hospital for smoke inhalation
The care home residents were able to return later in the day
but residents of 20 flats had to spend the night elsewhere
Police confirmed one of the apartments was being used as a drugs lab
but would not say what substances were being produced there
“We strongly suspect that the fire started in the flat with the drugs lab,” a police spokesman told Nu.nl
It is not thought the blaze was started deliberately
Images of two people who were seen in the vicinity of the fire were circulated by police via the citizens’ network Burgernet
Police said they were not suspected of starting the fire
but they may have suffered smoke inhalation

About 50 young people, mostly teenagers, on fatbikes are terrorizing the Haarlem region, from Bloemendaal to Heemstede. They pick young victims randomly, follow them, harass them, rob them, and assault them. The authorities received the first signals of this problem group about six months ago, and it’s only grown since then, NH Nieuws reports
the victims are also primarily teenagers and seem to be selected at random
leaving them and their families feeling unsafe on the street
Many parents no longer let their children cycle to school or sports clubs
Some local shopkeepers are also struggling with harassment from this group
The police confirmed the problems to NH Nieuws
The police speak of “several groups” of children
a city councilor in the municipality of Bloemendaal
has received dozens of reports of children being chased with fatbikes and then beaten up
and other authorities are working on a broader approach to the problem
“And the municipalities really have to put their heads together; otherwise
The approach has already started with the police identifying the teenagers causing the most problems and visiting their homes
Other young people have also received a warning letter or had a cop show up at their door
Municipalities are also deploying extra enforcers to hotspots
The average equity of a home in the Netherlands has increased further due to the continued rise in home prices
The average value of a home is now almost 500,000 euros
and the average equity per home is currently 220,000 euros
That is a significant increase compared to two years ago when the equity - the difference between your home’s value and what you still owe on your mortgage - was still 175,000 euros
the higher equity ensures that a large part of the housing market is even more resistant to potential price decreases in the future
The Netherlands currently has more than 8 million homes with a total home value of almost 4 trillion (4,000 billion) euros
Calcasa looked at existing homes that have changed owners since 1 January 1993
That is a total of over 3 million homes with a total value of more than 1.5 trillion euros
Compared to the last historical purchase prices
this amounts to an average of 220,000 euros in equity per home
the actual equity is probably even higher since the calculation assumes a mortgage of 100 percent of the purchase price without taking repayments into account
homes that were sold before 1993 were not included in the study
This makes the estimate of the equity conservative
Homes sold before 2000 have the most equity on average due to the long period in which their value could increase
Homes that were sold around 2008 have less equity due to the price drops during the credit crisis
and Ameland are among the municipalities with the highest relative equity
Not many transactions have taken place on the islands since 1993
but the average equity as a percentage of the historical purchase price is high at an average of 90 percent
Bloemendaal tops the list with an average equity of 495,000 euros
the equity is both relatively (85 percent) and absolutely (306,000 euros) high
The average equity in Amsterdam is 281,000 euros

the average Dutch household had 49,800 euros in wealth - 12 thousand euros more than the year before
Most of the increase is due to rising home values
Statistics Netherlands reported on Tuesday
Bloemendaal is still municipality with the wealthiest residents
with an average wealth of 381 thousand euros
The top 10 wealthiest municipalities also include places like Laren
All places with relatively many older residents
A household's average wealth is very dependent on the age of its members
Households with a 25-year-old as main breadwinner most often have little built up wealth
while households consisting of people over the age of 65 had many more years to build up their wealth and pay off their mortgage
If owner-occupied homes are left out of the equation
the average Dutch household had 15 thousand euros in wealth in January last year
Households with the lowest average wealth are mainly in the large cities
The large cities have many young residents
Rotterdam residents are least wealthy on average
The number of homes worth over 1 million euros in the Netherlands increased by more than tenfold in ten years. That is more due to increasing home prices than more mansions being built. Last year, 3 percent of the million-euro homes were apartments, the Telegraaf reports based on figures from data supplier Calcasa
the end of the credit crisis and the lowest point in the Dutch housing market

Over 40 percent of owner-occupied homes were worth at least a million euros last year
almost three-quarters of million-euro homes were detached houses
Semi-detached houses make up 14 percent of the total
the million-euro homes were mainly located in the Randstad,” Calcassa researchers said
they can be found everywhere in the Netherlands
and Lelystad gained many million-euro hones.”
Amsterdam remains the leader in absolute numbers
with around 20,000 homes worth 1 million euros or more
dropped from second place in 2013 to eighth last year with 2,900
Rotterdam offers the most value for your money of the large Dutch cities
Every million euros there is good for approximately 177 square meters
a million euros will get you 125 square meters
The cheapest homes in the Netherlands could be bought in Delfzijl last year
at an average price of 141,600 euros for a home
Bloemendaal was most expensive at 775.800 euros per home on average
over five times more expensive than in Delfzijl
The national average was 263 thousand euros per house
Statistics Netherlands reported on Thursday
the differences in average home prices between municipalities increased last year
In 2016 the average home price in the most expensive municipality was 5.1 times higher than in the cheapest municipality
Statistics Netherlands' calculations are not corrected for the type and quality of homes sold
which means that municipalities with many villas will have a higher average price than municipalities with many apartments
Bloemendaal came out as the priciest municipality in the Netherlands when it comes to homes
home buyers also paid on average more than half a million euros for a home
which had the cheapest homes in the Netherlands in the previous four years
came out as the second cheapest place to buy a home in the Netherlands in 2017 with an average price of 150,400 euros
Both Pekela and Delfzijl are located in the province of Groningen
